- 0:00Speaker 1: Second Nephi, Chapters one to three, The Second Book of Nephi,
- 0:08Speaker 1: an account of the death of Lehi, Nephi's brethren rebel
- 0:11Speaker 1: against him. The Lord warns Nephi to depart into the wilderness,
- 0:16Speaker 1: his journeyings in the wilderness, and so forth Chapter one.
- 0:21Speaker 1: And now it came to pass that after I Nephi
- 0:24Speaker 1: had made an end of teaching my brethren our father, Lehi,
- 0:28Speaker 1: also spake many things unto them, and rehearsed unto them,
- 0:32Speaker 1: how great things the Lord had done for them in
- 0:34Speaker 1: bringing them out of the land of Jerusalem. And he
- 0:37Speaker 1: spake unto them concerning their rebellions upon the waters and
- 0:41Speaker 1: the mercies of God, and sparing their lives, that they
- 0:44Speaker 1: were not swallowed up in the sea. And he also
- 0:47Speaker 1: spake unto them concerning the land of Promise which they
- 0:50Speaker 1: had obtained. How merciful the Lord had been in warning
- 0:54Speaker 1: us that we should flee out of the land of Jerusalem.
- 0:57Speaker 1: For behold, said he, I have seen in a vision
- 1:01Speaker 1: in which I know that Jerusalem is destroyed, And had
- 1:04Speaker 1: we remained in Jerusalem, we should also have perished. But
- 1:09Speaker 1: said he, notwithstanding our afflictions, we have obtained a land
- 1:14Speaker 1: of promise, a land which is choice above all other lands.
- 1:18Speaker 1: A land which the Lord God hath covenanted with me,
- 1:22Speaker 1: should be a land for the inheritance of my seed. Yea,
- 1:26Speaker 1: the Lord hath covenanted this land unto me and to
- 1:29Speaker 1: my children forever, and also all those who should be
- 1:34Speaker 1: led out of other countries by the hand of the Lord.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Wherefore I lehi prophesy according to the workings of the
- 1:41Speaker 1: Spirit which is in me, that there shall none come
- 1:45Speaker 1: into this land, save they shall be brought by the
- 1:48Speaker 1: hand of the Lord. Wherefore this land is consecrated unto
- 1:52Speaker 1: him whom he shall bring. And if it so be
- 1:56Speaker 1: that they shall serve him according to the commandments which
- 1:59Speaker 1: he hath give, it shall be a land of liberty
- 2:02Speaker 1: unto them, Wherefore they shall never be brought down into captivity.
- 2:07Speaker 1: If so it shall be because of iniquity, For if
- 2:11Speaker 1: iniquity shall abound, cursed shall be the land for their sakes.
- 2:16Speaker 1: But unto the righteous it shall be blessed forever. And behold,
- 2:21Speaker 1: it is wisdom that this land should be kept as
- 2:24Speaker 1: yet from the knowledge of other nations. For behold, many
- 2:27Speaker 1: nations would overrun the land, that there would be no
- 2:31Speaker 1: place for an inheritance. Wherefore, I Lehi have obtained a
- 2:35Speaker 1: promise that inasmuch as those whom the Lord God shall
- 2:39Speaker 1: bring out of the land of Jerusalem shall keep his commandments,
- 2:44Speaker 1: they shall prosper upon the face of this land, and
- 2:47Speaker 1: they shall be kept from all other nations, that they
- 2:50Speaker 1: may possess this land unto themselves. And if it so
- 2:54Speaker 1: be that they shall keep His commandments, they shall be
- 2:57Speaker 1: blessed upon the face of this land, and there shall
- 3:00Speaker 1: be none to molest them, nor to take away the
- 3:03Speaker 1: land of their inheritance. And they shall dwell safely forever.
- 3:08Speaker 1: But behold, when the time cometh that they shall dwindle
- 3:12Speaker 1: in unbelief, after they have received so great blessings from
- 3:16Speaker 1: the hand of the Lord, having a knowledge of the
- 3:19Speaker 1: creation of the earth, and all men knowing the great
- 3:23Speaker 1: and marvelous works of the Lord from the creation of
- 3:26Speaker 1: the world, having power given them to do all things
- 3:29Speaker 1: by faith, having all the commandments from the beginning, and
- 3:33Speaker 1: having been brought by His infinite goodness into this precious
- 3:37Speaker 1: land of promise. Behold, I say, if the day shall
- 3:41Speaker 1: come that they shall reject the Holy One of Israel,
- 3:45Speaker 1: the True Messiah, their redeemer and their God. Behold, the
- 3:50Speaker 1: judgments of Him that is just shall rest upon them. Yea.
- 3:55Speaker 1: He shall bring other nations unto them, and he will
- 3:58Speaker 1: give unto them power, and he will take away from
- 4:01Speaker 1: them the lands of their possessions, and he will cause
- 4:04Speaker 1: them to be scatter'd and smitten. Yea. As one generation
- 4:09Speaker 1: passeth to another, there shall be bloodsheds and great visitations
- 4:14Speaker 1: among them. Wherefore, my sons, I would that ye would remember, YEA.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I would that ye would hearken unto my words, O,
- 4:24Speaker 1: that ye would awake. Awake from a deep sleep, yea,
- 4:28Speaker 1: even from the sleep of hell, and shake off the
- 4:33Speaker 1: awful chains by which ye are bound, which are the
- 4:36Speaker 1: chains which bind the children of men, that they are
- 4:40Speaker 1: carried away captive, down to the eternal gulf of misery
- 4:44Speaker 1: and woe. Awake and arise from the dust, and hear
- 4:49Speaker 1: the words of a trembling parent, whose limbs ye must
- 4:53Speaker 1: soon lay down in the cold and silent grave. From
- 4:57Speaker 1: whence no traveler can return. A few more days, and
- 5:01Speaker 1: I go the way of all the earth. But behold,
- 5:06Speaker 1: the Lord hath redeemed my soul from hell. I have
- 5:10Speaker 1: beheld his glory and I am encircled about eternally in
- 5:14Speaker 1: the arms of His love, and I desire that ye
- 5:18Speaker 1: should remember to observe the statutes and the judgments of
- 5:21Speaker 1: the Lord. Behold, this hath been the anxiety of my
- 5:26Speaker 1: soul from the beginning. My heart hath been weighed down
- 5:30Speaker 1: with sorrow from time to time, for I have feared
- 5:34Speaker 1: lest for the hardness of your hearts, the Lord, your God,
- 5:37Speaker 1: should come out in the fullness of his wrath upon you,
- 5:41Speaker 1: that ye be cut off and destroyed forever, or that
- 5:45Speaker 1: a cursing should come upon you for the space of
- 5:48Speaker 1: many generations. And ye are visited by sword and by famine,
- 5:53Speaker 1: and are hated, and are led according to the will
- 5:56Speaker 1: and captivity of the devil, all my sons, that these
- 6:00Speaker 1: things might not come upon you, but that ye might
- 6:04Speaker 1: be a choice and a favored people of the Lord.
- 6:08Speaker 1: But behold, his will be done, for his ways are
- 6:12Speaker 1: righteousness forever. And he hath said that inasmuch as ye
- 6:16Speaker 1: shall keep my commandments, ye shall prosper in the land.
- 6:20Speaker 1: But inasmuch as ye will not keep my commandments, ye
- 6:24Speaker 1: shall be cut off from my presence. And now that
- 6:28Speaker 1: my soul might have joy in you and that my
- 6:31Speaker 1: heart might leave this world with gladness because of you,
- 6:35Speaker 1: that I might not be brought down with grief and
- 6:38Speaker 1: sorrow to the grave. Arise from the dust, my sons,
- 6:43Speaker 1: and be men, and be determined in one mind and
- 6:47Speaker 1: in one heart, united in all things, that ye may
- 6:52Speaker 1: not come down into captivity, that ye may not be
- 6:56Speaker 1: cursed with a sore cursing, and also that ye may
- 7:00Speaker 1: not incur the displeasure of a just God upon you
- 7:04Speaker 1: unto the destruction, yea, the eternal destruction of both soul
- 7:09Speaker 1: and body. Awake, my sons, put on the armor of righteousness,
- 7:15Speaker 1: shake off the chains with which ye are bound, and
- 7:19Speaker 1: come forth out of obscurity, and arise from the dust.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Rebel no more against your brother, whose views have been glorious,
- 7:29Speaker 1: and who hath kept the commandments from the time that
- 7:32Speaker 1: we left Jerusalem, and who hath been an instrument in
- 7:36Speaker 1: the hands of God in bringing us forth into the
- 7:39Speaker 1: land of Promise. For were it not for him, we
- 7:43Speaker 1: must have perished with hunger in the wilderness. Nevertheless, ye
- 7:48Speaker 1: sought to take away his life, yea, and he hath
- 7:51Speaker 1: suffered much sorrow because of you, And I exceedingly fear
- 7:55Speaker 1: and tremble because of you, lest he shall suffer again.
- 7:59Speaker 1: For behold, ye have accused him that he sought power
- 8:03Speaker 1: and authority over you. But I know that he hath
- 8:07Speaker 1: not sought for power nor authority over you. But he
- 8:11Speaker 1: hath sought the glory of God and your own eternal welfare.
- 8:17Speaker 1: And ye have murmured because he hath been plain unto you.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Ye say that he hath used sharpness. Ye say that
- 8:25Speaker 1: he hath been angry with you. But behold, his sharpness
- 8:30Speaker 1: was the sharpness of the power of the Word of
- 8:33Speaker 1: God which was in him. And that which ye call
- 8:36Speaker 1: anger was the truth according to that which is in God,
- 8:41Speaker 1: which he could not restrain, manifesting boldly concerning your iniquities.
- 8:48Speaker 1: And it must needs be that the power of God
- 8:51Speaker 1: must be with him, even unto his commanding you that
- 8:55Speaker 1: ye must obey. But behold, it was not he, but
- 9:00Speaker 1: it was the spirit of the Lord which was in him,
- 9:03Speaker 1: which opened his mouth to utterance, that he could not
- 9:06Speaker 1: shut it. And now my son Layman, and also Lemuel
- 9:11Speaker 1: and Sam, and also my sons, who are the sons
- 9:15Speaker 1: of Ishmael. Behold, if ye will hearken unto the voice
- 9:19Speaker 1: of Nephi, ye shall not perish. And if ye will
- 9:23Speaker 1: hearken unto him, I leave unto you a blessing, yea,
- 9:28Speaker 1: even my first blessing. But if ye will not hearken
- 9:32Speaker 1: unto him, I take away my first blessing, yea, even
- 9:37Speaker 1: my blessing, and it shall rest upon him. And now Zorum,
- 9:42Speaker 1: I speak unto you. Behold thou art the servant of Laban. Nevertheless,
- 9:49Speaker 1: thou hast been brought out of the land of Jerusalem.
- 9:52Speaker 1: And I know that thou art a true friend unto
- 9:55Speaker 1: my son Nephi forever. Wherefore, because thou hast been faithful,
- 10:01Speaker 1: thy seed shall be blessed with his seed, that they
- 10:04Speaker 1: dwell in prosperity long upon the face of this land.
- 10:08Speaker 1: And nothing save it shall be iniquity among them shall
- 10:12Speaker 1: harm or disturb their prosperity upon the face of this
- 10:16Speaker 1: land forever. Wherefore, if ye shall keep the commandments of
- 10:21Speaker 1: the Lord, the Lord hath consecrated this land for the
- 10:24Speaker 1: security of thy seed with the seed of my son.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Chapter two. And now Jacob, I speak unto you, thou
- 10:34Speaker 1: art my first born in the days of my tribulation
- 10:37Speaker 1: in the wilderness. And behold in thy childhood, thou hast
- 10:42Speaker 1: suffered afflictions and much sorrow because of the rudeness of
- 10:46Speaker 1: thy brethren. Nevertheless, Jacob, my first born in the wilderness,
- 10:51Speaker 1: thou knowest the greatness of God, and He shall consecrate
- 10:54Speaker 1: thine afflictions for thy gain. Wherefore thy soul shall be bled,
- 11:00Speaker 1: and thou shalt dwell safely with thy brother Nephi, and
- 11:04Speaker 1: thy days shall be spent in the service of thy God.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Wherefore I know that thou art redeemed because of the
- 11:11Speaker 1: righteousness of thy redeemer. For thou hast to be held
- 11:15Speaker 1: that in the fullness of time he cometh to bring
- 11:18Speaker 1: salvation unto men, and thou hast be held in thy
- 11:22Speaker 1: youth his glory. Wherefore thou art blessed even as they
- 11:26Speaker 1: unto whom He shall minister in the flesh. For the
- 11:29Speaker 1: spirit is the same yesterday, today and forever, and the
- 11:35Speaker 1: way is prepared from the fall of man, and salvation
- 11:39Speaker 1: is free, and men are instructed sufficiently that they know
- 11:43Speaker 1: good from evil. And the law is given unto men,
- 11:47Speaker 1: and by the law, no flesh is justified, or by
- 11:52Speaker 1: the law men are cut off. Yea, by the temporal law.
- 11:57Speaker 1: They were cut off, and also by the spiritual law,
- 12:00Speaker 1: they perish from that which is good and become miserable forever.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Wherefore redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah, for
- 12:11Speaker 1: he is full of grace and truth. Behold, he offereth
- 12:16Speaker 1: himself a sacrifice for sin to answer the ends of
- 12:20Speaker 1: the law. Unto all those who have a broken heart
- 12:24Speaker 1: and a contrite spirit, and unto none else can the
- 12:28Speaker 1: ends of the law be answered. Wherefore, how great the
- 12:32Speaker 1: importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of
- 12:36Speaker 1: the earth, that they may know that there is no
- 12:39Speaker 1: flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save
- 12:43Speaker 1: it be through the merits and mercy and grace of
- 12:47Speaker 1: the Holy Messiah, who layeth down his life according to
- 12:51Speaker 1: the flesh, and taketh it again by the power of
- 12:54Speaker 1: the Spirit, that he may bring to pass the resurrection
- 12:58Speaker 1: of the dead, being the first that should rise. Wherefore
- 13:03Speaker 1: he is the first fruits unto God, inasmuch as he
- 13:07Speaker 1: shall make innercession for all the children of men, and
- 13:11Speaker 1: they that believe in Him shall be saved. And because
- 13:15Speaker 1: of the innercession for all all men come unto God.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Wherefore they stand in the presence of him, to be
- 13:23Speaker 1: judged of him according to the truth and holiness which
- 13:27Speaker 1: is in him. Wherefore the ends of the law which
- 13:31Speaker 1: the Holy One hath given unto the inflicting of the
- 13:34Speaker 1: punishment which is affixed. Which punishment that is affixed, is
- 13:38Speaker 1: in opposition to that of the happiness which is affixed.
- 13:43Speaker 1: To answer the ends of the atonement, for it must
- 13:47Speaker 1: needs be that there is an opposition in all things.
- 13:51Speaker 1: If not so, my first born in the wilderness, righteousness
- 13:55Speaker 1: could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither whole,
- 14:00Speaker 1: holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Wherefore all things
- 14:05Speaker 1: must needs be a compound in one. Wherefore, if it
- 14:10Speaker 1: should be one body, it must needs remain as dead,
- 14:15Speaker 1: having no life, neither death nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness
- 14:22Speaker 1: nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility. Wherefore it must needs
- 14:28Speaker 1: have been created for a thing of naught, Wherefore there
- 14:32Speaker 1: would have been no purpose in the end of its creation.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Wherefore this thing must needs destroy the wisdom of God
- 14:40Speaker 1: and his eternal purposes, and also the power and the
- 14:43Speaker 1: mercy and the justice of God. And if ye shall
- 14:48Speaker 1: say there is no law, ye shall also say there
- 14:52Speaker 1: is no sin. If ye shall say there is no sin,
- 14:56Speaker 1: ye shall also say there is no righteousness. And if
- 15:01Speaker 1: there be no righteousness, there be no happiness. And if
- 15:05Speaker 1: there be no righteousness nor happiness, there be no punishment
- 15:10Speaker 1: nor misery. And if these things are not there is
- 15:14Speaker 1: no God. And if there is no God, we are
- 15:18Speaker 1: not neither the earth. For there could have been no
- 15:22Speaker 1: creation of things, neither to act nor to be acted upon.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Wherefore all things must have vanished away. And now, my sons,
- 15:32Speaker 1: I speak unto you these things for your prophet and learning.
- 15:37Speaker 1: For there is a God, and he hath created all things,
- 15:40Speaker 1: both the heavens and the earth, and all things that
- 15:44Speaker 1: in them are both things to act and things to
- 15:48Speaker 1: be acted upon, and to bring about His eternal purposes
- 15:52Speaker 1: in the end of man. After he had created our
- 15:55Speaker 1: first parents, and the beasts of the field, and the
- 15:58Speaker 1: fowls of the air, and in fine all things which
- 16:03Speaker 1: are created. It must needs be that there was an opposition,
- 16:08Speaker 1: even the forbidden fruit, in opposition to the tree of life,
- 16:12Speaker 1: the one being sweet and the other bitter. Wherefore the
- 16:17Speaker 1: Lord God gave unto man that he should act for himself.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Wherefore man could not act for himself, save it should
- 16:26Speaker 1: be that he was enticed by the one or the other.
- 16:31Speaker 1: And I Lehi, according to the things which I have read,
- 16:35Speaker 1: must needs suppose that an angel of God, according to
- 16:39Speaker 1: that which is written, had fallen from heaven. Wherefore he
- 16:44Speaker 1: became a devil, having sought that which was evil before God.
- 16:49Speaker 1: And because he had fallen from heaven and had become
- 16:52Speaker 1: miserable forever, he sought also the misery of all mankind.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Wherefore he said, unto Eve, yea, even that old serpent,
- 17:02Speaker 1: who is the devil, who is the father of all lies.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Wherefore he said, partake of the forbidden fruit, and ye
- 17:10Speaker 1: shall not die, but ye shall be as God, knowing
- 17:14Speaker 1: good and evil. And after Adam and Eve had partaken
- 17:19Speaker 1: of the forbidden fruit, they were driven out of the
- 17:22Speaker 1: garden of Eden to till the earth. And they have
- 17:25Speaker 1: brought forth children. Yea, even the family of all the earth.
- 17:30Speaker 1: And the days of the children of men were prolonged
- 17:33Speaker 1: according to the will of God, that they might repent
- 17:36Speaker 1: while in the flesh. Wherefore their state became a state
- 17:40Speaker 1: of probation, and their time was lengthened. According to the
- 17:44Speaker 1: commandments which the Lord God gave unto the children of men,
- 17:49Speaker 1: for he gave commandment that all men must repent, for
- 17:53Speaker 1: he showed unto all men that they were lost because
- 17:56Speaker 1: of the transgression of their parents. And now behold, if
- 18:01Speaker 1: Adam had not transgressed, he would not have fallen, but
- 18:05Speaker 1: he would have remained in the garden of Eden. And
- 18:08Speaker 1: all things which were created must have remained in the
- 18:11Speaker 1: same state in which they were after they were created,
- 18:15Speaker 1: and they must have remained forever and had no end,
- 18:19Speaker 1: and they would have had no children. Wherefore they would
- 18:23Speaker 1: have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy,
- 18:26Speaker 1: for they knew no misery, doing no good, for they
- 18:30Speaker 1: knew no sin. But behold, all things have been done
- 18:34Speaker 1: in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things. Adam
- 18:38Speaker 1: felt that men might be and men are, that they
- 18:43Speaker 1: might have joy. And the Messiah cometh in the fullness
- 18:47Speaker 1: of time, that he may redeem the children of men
- 18:50Speaker 1: from the fall. And because they are redeemed from the fall,
- 18:54Speaker 1: they have become free forever, knowing good from evil, to
- 18:58Speaker 1: act for themselves and not to be acted upon, save
- 19:02Speaker 1: it be by the punishment of the Law at the
- 19:05Speaker 1: Great and last day. According to the commandments which God
- 19:09Speaker 1: hath given. Wherefore men are free according to the flesh,
- 19:15Speaker 1: and all things are given them which are expedient unto man,
- 19:19Speaker 1: And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life
- 19:22Speaker 1: through the Great Mediator of all men, or to choose
- 19:26Speaker 1: captivity and death according to the captivity and power of
- 19:30Speaker 1: the devil. For he seeketh that all men might be
- 19:34Speaker 1: miserable like unto himself. And now, my sons, I would
- 19:39Speaker 1: that ye should look to the Great Mediator and hearken
- 19:42Speaker 1: unto his great commandments, and be faithful unto his words,
- 19:46Speaker 1: and choose eternal life according to the will of his spirit,
- 19:51Speaker 1: and not choose eternal death according to the will of
- 19:55Speaker 1: the flesh and the evil which is therein which giveth
- 19:59Speaker 1: the spirit of the devil power to captivate, to bring
- 20:02Speaker 1: you down to hell, that he may reign over you
- 20:05Speaker 1: in his own kingdom. I have spoken these few words
- 20:09Speaker 1: unto you all, my sons, in the last days of
- 20:12Speaker 1: my probation. And I have chosen the good part according
- 20:17Speaker 1: to the words of the Prophet. And I have none
- 20:20Speaker 1: other object save it be the everlasting welfare of your souls. Amen.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Chapter three. And now I speak unto you Joseph, my
- 20:31Speaker 1: last born, thou wast born in the wilderness of mine afflictions. Yea,
- 20:36Speaker 1: in the days of my greatest sorrow, did thy mother
- 20:39Speaker 1: bear thee. And may the Lord consecrate also unto Thee
- 20:44Speaker 1: this land, which is a most precious land, for thine
- 20:48Speaker 1: inheritance and the inheritance of thy seed with thy brethren,
- 20:52Speaker 1: for thy security forever. If it so be that ye
- 20:55Speaker 1: shall keep the commandments of the Holy One of Israel.
- 20:59Speaker 1: And now Joseph, my last born, whom I have brought
- 21:02Speaker 1: out of the wilderness of mine afflictions, may the Lord
- 21:06Speaker 1: bless thee forever, for thy seed shall not utterly be destroyed.
- 21:11Speaker 1: For behold, thou art the fruit of my loins. And
- 21:15Speaker 1: I am a descendant of Joseph, who was carried captive
- 21:18Speaker 1: into Egypt. And great were the covenants of the Lord
- 21:22Speaker 1: which he made unto Joseph. Wherefore Joseph truly saw our day,
- 21:28Speaker 1: and he obtained a promise of the Lord that out
- 21:31Speaker 1: of the fruit of his loins, the Lord God would
- 21:34Speaker 1: raise up a righteous branch unto the House of Israel,
- 21:37Speaker 1: not the Messiah, but a branch which was to be
- 21:40Speaker 1: broken off. Nevertheless, to be remembered in the covenance of
- 21:44Speaker 1: the Lord, that the Messiah should be made manifest unto
- 21:47Speaker 1: them in the latter days, in the spirit of power,
- 21:52Speaker 1: unto the bringing of them out of darkness unto light,
- 21:56Speaker 1: yea out of hidden darkness, and out of captivity, unto freedom.
- 22:02Speaker 1: For Joseph truly testified, saying, a seer, shall the Lord
- 22:07Speaker 1: my God raise up, who shall be a choice seir
- 22:11Speaker 1: unto the fruit of my loins? Yea, Joseph truly said, thus,
- 22:16Speaker 1: saith the Lord unto me a choice seer, will I
- 22:19Speaker 1: raise up out of the fruit of thy loins, and
- 22:22Speaker 1: he shall be esteemed highly among the fruit of thy loins.
- 22:26Speaker 1: And unto him will I give commandment that he shall
- 22:29Speaker 1: do a work for the fruit of thy loins his brethren,
- 22:33Speaker 1: which shall be of great worth unto them, even to
- 22:36Speaker 1: the bringing of them to the knowledge of the covenants
- 22:38Speaker 1: which I have made with thy fathers. And I will
- 22:42Speaker 1: give unto him a commandment that he shall do none
- 22:45Speaker 1: other work save the work which I shall command him.
- 22:48Speaker 1: And I will make him great in mine eyes, for
- 22:51Speaker 1: he shall do my work, and he shall be great
- 22:54Speaker 1: like unto Moses, whom I have said I would raise
- 22:58Speaker 1: up unto you to deliver my people, O House of Israel,
- 23:02Speaker 1: and Moses, will I raise up to deliver thy people
- 23:06Speaker 1: out of the land of Egypt. But a seer will
- 23:09Speaker 1: I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins.
- 23:12Speaker 1: And unto him will I give power to bring forth
- 23:15Speaker 1: my word, unto the seed of thy loins. And not
- 23:18Speaker 1: to the bringing forth my word only, Saith the Lord,
- 23:23Speaker 1: But to the convincing them of my word, which shall
- 23:27Speaker 1: have already gone forth among them. Wherefore the fruit of
- 23:31Speaker 1: thy loins shall write, and the fruit of the loins
- 23:34Speaker 1: of Judah shall write. And that which shall be written
- 23:38Speaker 1: by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which
- 23:41Speaker 1: shall be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah,
- 23:45Speaker 1: shall grow together unto the confounding of false doctrines, and
- 23:49Speaker 1: laying down of contentions, and establishing peace among the fruit
- 23:54Speaker 1: of thy loins, and bringing them to the knowledge of
- 23:57Speaker 1: their fathers in the latter days, and also to the
- 24:00Speaker 1: knowledge of my covenance, Saith the Lord. And out of
- 24:04Speaker 1: weakness he shall be made strong in that day when
- 24:08Speaker 1: my work shall commence among all my people under the
- 24:11Speaker 1: restoring thee O House of Israel, Saith the Lord. And
- 24:17Speaker 1: thus prophesied Joseph, saying, behold that seer will the Lord bless,
- 24:22Speaker 1: and they that seek to destroy him shall be confounded.
- 24:27Speaker 1: For this promise which I have obtained of the Lord
- 24:30Speaker 1: of the fruit of my loins shall be fulfilled. Behold,
- 24:35Speaker 1: I am sure of the fulfilling of this promise. And
- 24:39Speaker 1: his name shall be called after me, and it shall
- 24:42Speaker 1: be after the name of his father, and he shall
- 24:45Speaker 1: be like unto me. For the thing which the Lord
- 24:48Speaker 1: shall bring forth by his hand, by the power of
- 24:51Speaker 1: the Lord, shall bring my people unto salvation. Yea, thus
- 24:56Speaker 1: prophesied Joseph, I am sure of this thing, even as
- 25:01Speaker 1: I am sure of the promise of Moses. For the
- 25:04Speaker 1: Lord Hath said unto me, I will preserve thy seed forever.
- 25:11Speaker 1: And the Lord Hath said, I will raise up a Moses,
- 25:15Speaker 1: and I will give power unto him in a rod,
- 25:18Speaker 1: and I will give judgment unto him in writing. Yet
- 25:21Speaker 1: I will not loose his tongue that he shall speak much,
- 25:26Speaker 1: for I will not make him mighty in speaking. But
- 25:29Speaker 1: I will write unto him my law by the finger
- 25:32Speaker 1: of mine own hand, and I will make a spokesman
- 25:35Speaker 1: for him. And the Lord said unto me. Also, I
- 25:40Speaker 1: will raise up unto the fruit of thy loins, and
- 25:43Speaker 1: I will make for him a spokesman. And I behold,
- 25:47Speaker 1: I will give unto him, that he shall write the
- 25:50Speaker 1: writing of the fruit of thy loins, unto the fruit
- 25:53Speaker 1: of thy loins. And the spokesman of thy loins shall
- 25:57Speaker 1: declare it, And the words which he shall right shall
- 26:00Speaker 1: be the words which are expedient in my wisdom, should
- 26:04Speaker 1: go forth unto the fruit of thy loins. And it
- 26:07Speaker 1: shall be as if the fruit of thy loins had
- 26:10Speaker 1: cried unto them from the dust. For I know their faith,
- 26:14Speaker 1: and they shall cry from the dust yea even repentance
- 26:18Speaker 1: unto their brethren, even after many generations have gone by them.
- 26:23Speaker 1: And it shall come to pass that their cry shall
- 26:25Speaker 1: go even according to the simpleness of their words, because
- 26:29Speaker 1: of their faith. Their words shall proceed forth out of
- 26:33Speaker 1: my mouth unto their brethren, who are the fruit of
- 26:36Speaker 1: thy loins. And the weakness of their words will I
- 26:39Speaker 1: make strong in their faith under the remembering of my
- 26:43Speaker 1: covenant which I made unto thy fathers. And now behold,
- 26:48Speaker 1: my son Joseph, after this manner did my father of
- 26:51Speaker 1: old prophesy Wherefore, because of this covenant, thou art blessed,
- 26:56Speaker 1: for thy seed shall not be destroyed. For they shall
- 27:00Speaker 1: hearken unto the words of the book, and there shall
- 27:03Speaker 1: rise up one mighty among them, who shall do much good,
- 27:07Speaker 1: both in word and in deed, being an instrument in
- 27:11Speaker 1: the hands of God, with exceeding faith, to work mighty wonders,
- 27:16Speaker 1: and do that thing which is great in the sight
- 27:19Speaker 1: of God, unto the bringing to pass much restoration unto
- 27:23Speaker 1: the house of Israel, and under the seed of thy brethren.
- 27:26Speaker 1: And now blessed art thou Joseph. Behold thou art little,
- 27:31Speaker 1: wherefore hearken unto the words of thy brother Nephi, and
- 27:35Speaker 1: it shall be done unto thee even according to the
- 27:38Speaker 1: words which I have spoken. Remember the words of thy
- 27:42Speaker 1: dying father. Amen. End of Second Nephi, Chapters one to three.
