- 0:00Before we get to chapter 3 of Isaiah, I will read the
- 0:04questions and answers from the study Bible that I forgot to
- 0:07read in the last recording. So we'll start there and then
- 0:11we'll get into chapter 3. So what are the last days
- 0:15referencing chapter 2, verse 2, The last days is a vague phrase.
- 0:20Some believe it refers to a future time of God's judgement,
- 0:24the day of the Lord, that will be followed by Jesus the
- 0:28Messiah's direct rule from Jerusalem.
- 0:31In the New Testament, however, the last days began with Jesus's
- 0:35first coming in accordance with Acts chapter 2 verse 17 and
- 0:40Hebrews chapter 1 verses one through 2, and will be
- 0:43completely fulfilled at His second coming.
- 0:48What will the role of the Lord's temple?
- 0:51What will be the role of the Lord's temple in the last days?
- 0:55The temple will be elevated in importance as both Jews and
- 1:00Gentiles come to worship God. Some think this will be an
- 1:04actual earthly temple in conjunction with Christ return.
- 1:09Others believe it symbolizes people coming to Christ in
- 1:12repentance. Perhaps Isaiah did not foresee
- 1:15one specific event, but rather many ways which the message of
- 1:18the law, the word of the Lord, could and should impact the
- 1:21world. So I will comment on this.
- 1:24This is not my study Bible, but it's something that I looked
- 1:27into because you do hear those different interpretations.
- 1:31But here's where I think it's very clear.
- 1:34In the Bible, there is there will be a third temple and it's
- 1:39talked about an Ezekiel. I forgot what chapters there
- 1:42are, but it's towards the end, the middle to the end of
- 1:46Ezekiel. And it's very, very, very
- 1:49descriptive, very much like when God told Moses to remember all
- 1:54these details when he was going to build the Tabernacle.
- 1:57The same thing happened with Ezekiel.
- 1:59Like be very careful to write down these things so when this
- 2:04prophetic image and extremely detailed description of the
- 2:09temple and how it would be utilized and what would occur
- 2:13and the sizes were given and everything.
- 2:16And if you compare the second temp, some second temple or the
- 2:21first temple to the third temple, it's neither one of
- 2:24those, you know, that's in fact it, it is not describing those.
- 2:30It's a different size. So this will definitely be 1/3
- 2:33temple. It has not been built yet.
- 2:36And the interesting thing for many people already know this,
- 2:39but there might be some people who don't know this that listen
- 2:42to the podcast on the over in Israel, the Temple Institute
- 2:47actually has architectural plans that match the temple described
- 2:54in Ezekiel and they are ready to build it.
- 2:58There's a lot of preparation that is has been underway for
- 3:02many years in preparation for this third temple.
- 3:07And all of the items that go inside the temple have all been,
- 3:16I guess, stored away for that day.
- 3:19And so anyway, it's it, there is another temple coming.
- 3:22And I think if you look into Scripture, I just don't even
- 3:26understand how you could think that it would be anything other
- 3:28than that. I do understand that we become
- 3:33the temple of God people, metaphorically, when we have the
- 3:38Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit resides in US.
- 3:42So that maybe confuses people who haven't fully studied the
- 3:47Bible and don't, some people don't read the Old Testament,
- 3:50but if they don't read the Old Testament, then they miss out on
- 3:52a lot of things. So anybody who's read the entire
- 3:55Bible and studies it will know that, yeah, that's that's a
- 3:59temple, but there's literally a temple that will be coming.
- 4:04And the closer we get or the more advanced we get in time,
- 4:09the more that it really seems reality.
- 4:11I mean, architectural plans are drawn up.
- 4:13There's all sorts of things that have been worked on for years
- 4:17and years and years about this. So this, this is going to come.
- 4:22There's lots of preparation for this third temple.
- 4:26And if you've never heard about it, just search it and you will
- 4:29find so much that you probably won't have time to look at it
- 4:32all. OK, so does this prophecy mean
- 4:35that the world is going to get better instead of worse?
- 4:38Referring to chapter 2, verse 4. Certainly when Christ returns.
- 4:44Some see this prophecy as a description of a future reign of
- 4:48Christ on earth. Others view the peace described
- 4:51in this passage as fulfilled in a spiritual sense through the
- 4:57coming of Christ and the inauguration of God's Kingdom,
- 5:01which then will be culminated when Christ returns.
- 5:04Though we know that eventually God will remove all sin and thus
- 5:08the causes of war and conflicts, we should still work toward the
- 5:13day helping people and nations reconcile their differences.
- 5:18Yeah, again, I think there's no way to deny it when you read the
- 5:23text that, you know, we've never been in a time period where
- 5:25nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they
- 5:30train for war anymore. And he will judge between the
- 5:33nations like when has that ever occurred?
- 5:36And they're no longer need any of their weapons.
- 5:39That has not ever been in the history of the world.
- 5:42And it's, it will, I mean, in the, I don't know, it's, it's a
- 5:49day that's coming and it's a day that's coming.
- 5:51The only one who can bring peace is Jesus Jesus Christ, Jesus the
- 5:57Messiah. Why the dramatic change of tone
- 6:01in verse 6? For impact, Isaiah wanted Judah
- 6:04to know that God's rule would not come before God purged sin.
- 6:09That's something that I see sometimes.
- 6:11Actually recently I saw the church actually ignore the fact
- 6:16that the wrath of God happens before Jesus reigns for that
- 6:21thousand year period when Jesus returns, he is first purging
- 6:28sin. So that really concerned me when
- 6:31I heard a church talk about that.
- 6:34When they said that, you know, they basically said, you know,
- 6:37we're they, you know, we're addressing the rapture actually.
- 6:40And they were saying, you know, we're going to meet Christ.
- 6:43And I think they kind of said like on earth and then, you
- 6:47know, about his reign. And they kind of went into this
- 6:50wonderful period of time when Jesus reigns on earth, but they
- 6:53completely ignored the wrath of God.
- 6:58And that just really concerned me when I heard that because,
- 7:02you know, if you don't have the fear of the Lord about knowing
- 7:08how much he does not like sin and that he is going to purge
- 7:12sin, what kind of, you know, what kind of a desire will you
- 7:18have to get rid of the sin in your life?
- 7:21If if you only hear love and grace and grace is not always
- 7:27clarified that grace is the power of the Holy Spirit to
- 7:31overcome sin. So then, you know, if you don't,
- 7:36if you only think about love and grace and you don't really know
- 7:41what grace is, because a lot of people don't know that grace is
- 7:44the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome it's other things as
- 7:47well. But it is the power of the Holy
- 7:50Spirit to overcome sin. And, and it is a free gift.
- 7:55It's a gift from God. So it it just like I get
- 8:02concerned about people who take that in, who absorb that
- 8:05information and don't know the truth, because I believe that
- 8:10those people will not be prepared for what will be coming
- 8:13in the future. And I think that leaders who do
- 8:17that are doing what it says in prophecy.
- 8:21They will be basically telling a scripture that itching ears.
- 8:25I think itching ears is the word that you can search that and
- 8:28find the scripture for it. But they are producing something
- 8:31that people want to hear, the good things, not the total
- 8:35truth, but the good part. They're giving people the good
- 8:38part. And, and it's just very, very
- 8:41concerning to me. Anyway, I'll go back.
- 8:43These sudden shifts in language or scenes occur throughout the
- 8:46book. What are superstitions and
- 8:49divination? The nations of the ancient Near
- 8:51East traded not only their goods and services but also their
- 8:56religious traditions in idolatry.
- 8:59The customs from foreign religions had polluted Judah
- 9:02worship of the Lord. How did materialism and
- 9:06militarism and impact Judah? It caused the people to become
- 9:10less dependent on God, on the Lord and more confident in their
- 9:14own resources. This led to arrogance and
- 9:18self-sufficiency, also known as pride, right?
- 9:21Their tendency towards idolatry, then, is not surprising, since
- 9:25idolatry is a little more than worshipping the works of 1's own
- 9:29hand. Why did Isaiah ask God to not
- 9:34forgive Judah? Genuine forgiveness must be
- 9:37preceded by admission of sin and a desire to change.
- 9:44That's pretty important. Pretty impactful statement.
- 9:47Genuine forgiveness must be preceded by admission of sin and
- 9:52a desire to change. So when we go to God, we have to
- 9:57admit we've sinned and we have to have a desire to change.
- 10:02Then we can get forgiveness. Isaiah saw no signs of
- 10:07repentance from the rampant sin throughout the land, so he asked
- 10:11God not to forgive his fellow Israelites so that they would be
- 10:16humbled. That's what God will do if we
- 10:18don't submit to Him, He will humble us so that we have that
- 10:24opportunity. Some people have to learn the
- 10:26hard way. Others people can learn from
- 10:29what's spoken, learn from history, and decide not to.
- 10:33I learned the hard way, so I'm not saying I was the one who
- 10:37learned the easy way. I learned the hard way too, and
- 10:40it's not fun doing it that way. It's so much better if you could
- 10:43just listen to the Word of God and react based on what the
- 10:47Bible tells us. But if you don't, you're going
- 10:50to have to go through what I went through, and you're going
- 10:54to have hardships come upon you until they get so bad that you
- 10:59seek God because you feel like you're rock bottom.
- 11:02So what is the day God has in store for all the proud and
- 11:06lofty? This is what Isaiah called the
- 11:08Day of the Lord, or simply that day.
- 11:11A day of decisive divine intervention in human history to
- 11:16create a right order, punishing evil and establishing good in
- 11:21the ancient world. The mark of a great king was
- 11:24thought to be his ability to win a war in a single day.
- 11:29Isaiah applied that idea here to God honoring the Lord as the
- 11:32greatest of all kings, who can decisively defeat all evil on
- 11:38any day he chooses. Why would God humble trees and
- 11:43mountains? Until our era of skyscrapers and
- 11:48high towers, nothing on earth was more prominent than a high
- 11:51mountain or a very large tree, depending on topography of
- 11:55region. Isaiah said that these symbols
- 11:57of greatness and endurance would be humbled, meaning possibly
- 12:01destroyed in that day when only the Lord would be exalted.
- 12:06And it's also, I think kind of a, a metaphor of things because
- 12:10a lot of times, like trees are representations of different
- 12:15types of people, different nations.
- 12:18And mountains are basically like they're either a literal
- 12:21mountain or they are symbolic of, of a spiritual or, you know,
- 12:28like on a yeah, I guess a spiritual or a stronghold or
- 12:32something like that. So anyway, that's the end of the
- 12:35questions and answers for chapter 2.
- 12:37Then we will get into chapter 3. But before we do, I need to
- 12:42pray. Dear God, please be with us as
- 12:45we read through this chapter 3 and let the Holy Spirit give us
- 12:51wisdom and insight and understanding of how we apply
- 12:56the knowledge of this and use it as wisdom so that we can change
- 13:04through the Holy Spirit, through the guiding of the Holy Spirit
- 13:06and submission to the Holy Spirit so that we can take your
- 13:11word and apply it to our own lives.
- 13:14And let us learn something from your words.
- 13:16We ask for this in Jesus name, Amen, judgment on Jerusalem and
- 13:23Judah. That's what it's titled.
- 13:24See now the Lord, the Lord Almighty is about to take from
- 13:29Jerusalem and Judah both supply and support all supplies of food
- 13:36and all supplies of water. The hero and the warrior, the
- 13:41judge and the prophet, the diviner and the elder, the
- 13:44captain of 50 and the man of rank, the counselor, skilled
- 13:48Craftsman and clever enchanter. So this is saying that all
- 13:53supplies of food and all supplies of water are going to
- 13:57be affected for everyone. I will make mere youths their
- 14:02officials. Children will rule over them.
- 14:06I think the study Bible addresses this, so I'm not going
- 14:10to because I don't know. I'd be guessing people will
- 14:13oppose each other. Man against man, neighbor
- 14:16against neighbor. Now Jesus says something like
- 14:20this. He said, do not think I've come
- 14:21for peace, but I've come for division.
- 14:23And then he goes on to illustrate how divided even
- 14:27families will be. And it's over the name of Jesus.
- 14:31So again, this is like something that Isaiah saw and then Jesus
- 14:37saw. And like, I think this really
- 14:39has significance in the the end times.
- 14:44Like I think that a lot of what Isaiah's talking about had, you
- 14:49know, maybe a partial fulfillment during his time.
- 14:52Of course, it's it's talking to Jerusalem and Judah.
- 14:55It says that. So these are the people that are
- 14:57going to be in Jerusalem and Judah in that day.
- 15:02I believe. I believe that's what this is
- 15:04talking about and it maybe didn't mean in the seven
- 15:08hundreds BC, although they were captured by the Babylonians.
- 15:14And so that was 1 portion of this prophecy, but not the
- 15:18entire prophecy. And that's the thing that
- 15:20sometimes we apply the prophecies and say, oh, this is
- 15:23happening right now or something, but it doesn't have
- 15:26all of the elements of the prophet of what the prophet
- 15:31says. So I still think this is coming
- 15:33up in the in the future, OK, the young will rise up against the
- 15:38old, the nobody against the honored.
- 15:42So there's going to be a huge shake up.
- 15:44A man will seize one of his brothers in his father's house
- 15:48and say, you have a cloak. You be our leader, Take charge
- 15:52of this heap of runes. But in that day, he will cry
- 15:55out, I have no remedy. I have no food or clothing in my
- 15:59house. Do not make me the leader of the
- 16:02people. Jerusalem staggers.
- 16:05Judah is falling. Their words and deeds are
- 16:10against the Lord, defying His glorious presence.
- 16:16The look on their faces testifies against them.
- 16:20They parade their sin like Sodom.
- 16:24So we need to think about like Sodom, what happened at Sodom.
- 16:28Sodom was destroyed. And there was, there was a lot
- 16:32of like sexually sexual immorality that was going on in
- 16:36Sodom. And we actually have an English
- 16:40word that is derived from Sodom sodomy.
- 16:45So think about that. Think about what sodomy means.
- 16:47They prayed their sin like that and they do not hide it.
- 16:51Woe to them. And again, we are not too far
- 16:55from the month of June. And in the United States, the
- 16:58June month has been dedicated at some point.
- 17:01I don't know when it happened to Pride month.
- 17:04God hates pride, and it's very clear in the Bible that he hates
- 17:09pride and he hates the sinful acts that that celebratory month
- 17:16is exalting. So although this is written to
- 17:20Judah and Jerusalem, I don't know if that's happened.
- 17:23I'm sure that's maybe, maybe it's a global thing, I don't
- 17:27know. But Despite that, God doesn't
- 17:31change. God still doesn't like the
- 17:33things he didn't like before. He destroyed an entire city
- 17:37because of that. And here in the United States,
- 17:40we dedicate a month to that. That's really concerning and we
- 17:44need to rethink that and understand that if we persist in
- 17:50that, we can expect judgement from God because God will not
- 17:54let it go on forever. So like Isaiah says, woe to
- 17:59them. We need to wake up.
- 18:02They have brought disaster upon themselves.
- 18:05That's from Scripture. They have brought disaster upon
- 18:07themselves. So when we have disaster fall
- 18:09upon us, it shouldn't be a surprise.
- 18:13Tell the righteous, now I love this.
- 18:15OK, so after I just love that, you know, Isaiah is, he's just
- 18:19speaking truth. He's speaking what God has shown
- 18:22him. And he says tell the righteous
- 18:25it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of
- 18:30their deeds. So that's verse 10 in Isaiah
- 18:33chapter 3. So there is a reward for
- 18:37righteousness. There is a reward for submitting
- 18:40to God's will, even if it's something we don't want to do,
- 18:43say we know what God wants and we're going to do what God
- 18:46wants. Not maybe what we want what
- 18:48we're our initial inclination is, but we're going to we're
- 18:52going to essentially crucify that and we are going to let God
- 18:58let the Holy Spirit give us strength so that we don't
- 19:00continue in that persistent sin and therefore become righteous.
- 19:07The Holy Spirit is how we become how we change how we become
- 19:11different. If we don't receive the Holy
- 19:13Spirit, we can't change. We're going to be fighting a
- 19:16battle that's pretty hard and that's why people who haven't
- 19:20found Jesus have not found the the power to overcome sin.
- 19:27So if if we are truly sincere in recognizing, like it said
- 19:34earlier in this chapter, recognizing our sin, about
- 19:37forgiveness, if we recognize our sin and the Bible shows us what
- 19:43sin is. So if we don't know what sin is,
- 19:46then we have to read the Bible. When we read the Bible, it will
- 19:49convict us of our sin. It'll point out our sin to us.
- 19:52It's very uncomfortable. It may make you cry, may make
- 19:56you sob. A lot of people do that when
- 19:57they really are convicted by the word of God.
- 20:00That happened to me. So you you kind of like you blow
- 20:04off things because you think it's a man made rule or
- 20:06something. But then when you read it in the
- 20:09Bible and you realize this is what God says, that's when it
- 20:12hits you. And, and so when we realize that
- 20:18we are sinning and then we have a desire within us that we don't
- 20:23want to do it anymore. We want God to take over our
- 20:27lives, guide us. When we want that, when we
- 20:29sincerely want that, God will do that because he gave us free
- 20:33will and we're making that choice now.
- 20:36Along the way, even after we choose to do that, we will be
- 20:40tested. And that's not fun to go through
- 20:43testing. But I don't know.
- 20:48I don't know how often we get tested, but I certainly don't
- 20:51want to be tested anymore. I've had enough of it, but who
- 20:57knows how much more I'll get tested by.
- 20:59But anyway, it's, it's the Holy Spirit can change us and when we
- 21:05submit, when we surrender to God, when we say, not my way,
- 21:09but your way God, and let your Holy Spirit start guiding our
- 21:13life. So tell the righteous, it will
- 21:16be well with them for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds.
- 21:20So that's comfort to the people. So this, when this disaster talk
- 21:25is talking, you know, it's being spoken to all of the people that
- 21:29are there. He's also making the exception.
- 21:32Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will
- 21:36enjoy the fruit of their deeds. Remember that woe to the wicked.
- 21:42Disaster is upon them. They will be paid back for what
- 21:46their hands have done. Youths oppress my people.
- 21:50Women rule over them. My people, your guides lead you
- 21:55astray. So even bad leaders are leading
- 21:58people astray because they're telling people things that are
- 22:02not the truth. They turn you from the path,
- 22:05from the truth. The Lord takes his place in
- 22:09court. Again.
- 22:10Here we go. God is a a man.
- 22:15God is a God of order and He just like a court, like He
- 22:21established. If you really look deeply into
- 22:23the laws that we have and where everything came from, it really
- 22:25came from God, at least the United States it did.
- 22:29He rises to judge the people. The Lord enters into judgement
- 22:34against the elders and leaders of His people.
- 22:38This is a good warning to the leaders of Jerusalem, of Judah.
- 22:45And also it could probably apply to all of us because again, God
- 22:49feels the same way. He doesn't have favoritism, so
- 22:52he's going to treat all equally. So elders and leaders, they're
- 22:57going to be judged. It is you who have ruined my
- 23:00vineyard. The plunder from the poor is in
- 23:04your houses. That makes me think about
- 23:08establishments who take money from people and use it for
- 23:12themselves as opposed for the good of others.
- 23:16And so that's kind of a word of warning there.
- 23:21What do you mean by crushing my people by grinding the faces of
- 23:25the poor, Declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.
- 23:27The Lord says the women of Zion are haughty or proud, walking
- 23:32along with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes,
- 23:37strutting along with swaying hips with ornaments jingling on
- 23:41their ankles. Therefore the Lord will bring
- 23:44sores on the heads of the women of Zion.
- 23:50The Lord will make their scalps bald.
- 23:54Now this is really concerning and I don't know if there has
- 23:57been a time when that has happened.
- 23:59Sores on the heads and bald baldness.
- 24:03Revelation chapter 16, verse 2 and also verse 11 talk about
- 24:09that. So I guess I could read that
- 24:13right now. But again, this is like in
- 24:16Revelation, this is the end times and like and so again,
- 24:22this supports the why I feel like or why I believe that this
- 24:31is future. So Revelation 16 verses 2:00 and
- 24:4111:00. So verse 2 says the first Angel
- 24:45went out and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly festering
- 24:51sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast
- 24:57and worshipped its image. So this is part of God's wrath.
- 25:04And these are the people who take the mark of the beast.
- 25:08There's no forgiveness for these people.
- 25:11It says if you take the mark of the beast, there's no
- 25:14forgiveness. So I believe it's because you
- 25:16are probably blaspheming the Holy Spirit.
- 25:20You're basically rejecting the Spirit of God and you are
- 25:24worshipping some other image. What that's going to be, I don't
- 25:27know. But there's something that
- 25:30whoever has the mark of the beast, the mark of the beast is
- 25:33something that supposedly is on the right hand or the forehead
- 25:37and you cannot buy or sell without it.
- 25:41So it sounds like it's going to be something physical.
- 25:47And yeah, it sounds, I don't know if it could be metaphorical
- 25:51where it could be in your thoughts and in your hands, like
- 25:53how you work and how you think. You know, that could be another
- 25:57thing. But it there's a, there's an
- 26:00Angel that goes out that warns everybody.
- 26:03Don't take the mark of the beast.
- 26:04Now, an Angel could be a literal Angel, which I do think it is,
- 26:09but it could also be a messenger.
- 26:11So it could be some messenger of some kind who's saying don't do
- 26:15this or you will, you know, you know, not have eternity with
- 26:21God. Basically they give the message
- 26:23of of salvation. So people will not be without
- 26:28warning. And who knows this, this could
- 26:30be your warning or somebody else talking about the mark of the
- 26:33beast and don't taking it. That could be your warning.
- 26:36But whatever it is, whenever it comes out, because it isn't here
- 26:39yet, don't take it. Even if you have to die, don't
- 26:45take it because there is no forgiveness.
- 26:47Everything else you can be forgiven of except for blasphemy
- 26:50of the Holy Spirit. And I guess when you take this,
- 26:53you're actually doing blasphemy of the Holy Spirit because
- 26:56that's the one unforgivable sin. And so anyway, but it's the
- 27:01people. Now this just talks about the
- 27:03people. Have festering sores broke out
- 27:05on the people who have the mark of the beast?
- 27:07So whatever that is, it's not going to be pretty when it
- 27:11happens. So then verse 11, it says it
- 27:15talks about the people. The fifth, Well, I'll read verse
- 27:1810 first. The 5th Angel poured out his
- 27:21bowl on the throne of the beast, and its Kingdom was plunged Into
- 27:24Darkness. People gnawed their tongues in
- 27:27agony and curse God of heaven because why did they?
- 27:32Why were they so angry at God, their pains and their sores, but
- 27:37they refused to repent of what they had done.
- 27:43They love their sins so much. They're not going to change.
- 27:47They don't want to change. They want to keep their sin.
- 27:49That's another warning. Don't hang on to sin because if
- 27:53you do, that's, you know, like the evil 1, he seeks to kill and
- 27:57destroy. So he tempts people to lead them
- 28:01into sin, not for their so they get more enjoyment out of life.
- 28:06That's a lie. What he's doing is he's luring
- 28:09them kind of like, you know, throwing out some bait for a
- 28:12fish and he's sitting that bait out for everybody looking for
- 28:16what is your temptation? What are you going to fall into
- 28:18sin over putting it in front of you?
- 28:22Then when you fall and latch onto it, it only makes you
- 28:25desire it more. If you ever think about that,
- 28:27like any kind of sin that you fall into, once you start it,
- 28:31you just like crave it more. So that's again, that's just
- 28:36like hooks you. It's like an addiction and it
- 28:38just hooks you. And what it's going to do is it
- 28:42destroy you unless you break that.
- 28:45And the only way you can break that is by the Holy Spirit by
- 28:48receiving the Holy Spirit from God, from Jesus.
- 28:51Jesus receives it from the Father and sends it to whomever
- 28:55he chooses. So again, Jesus is the
- 28:58gatekeeper on that. If you don't call on the name of
- 29:00Jesus, you don't receive the Holy Spirit because Jesus
- 29:03controls that. If he doesn't know you, he
- 29:05doesn't know your will, your free will, that you want to
- 29:10follow the Lord, that you reject sin.
- 29:13If he doesn't see that from you, from us, you know, he won't give
- 29:17us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit only goes to
- 29:20those who are willing to obey God.
- 29:23And God knows our heart. We might be able to lie to other
- 29:25people and say, yeah, we'll, we'll obey because we want the
- 29:27power. But God won't do that.
- 29:30God, you know, decides who he's going to give the Holy Spirit to
- 29:35when he sees our heart, when he sees our true heart, our true
- 29:41desires. And if he doesn't see that we
- 29:44are repentant. We're not going to receive the
- 29:46Holy Spirit when he knows if we're submitted to him or if
- 29:51we're not. Like we can fool other people,
- 29:54but we can't fool God. All right, then continuing on in
- 29:58that day, the Lord will snatch away their finery.
- 30:01The Bengals and headbands and Crescent necklaces.
- 30:05I just recently when I was reading that, I thought Crescent
- 30:08necklaces. That's really, I mean, that
- 30:11could be like superstitious kind of things.
- 30:14It could be astrology things. And then there are some nations
- 30:19that have crescents on their flags too.
- 30:22And so I don't know if there is an alliance to that.
- 30:25I don't know it just what are Crescent necklaces?
- 30:30Maybe it'll tell us in here. The earrings and bracelets and
- 30:33veils, the headdresses and anklets and sashes, the perfume
- 30:37bottles and charms, the signet rings and nose rings, the fine
- 30:42robes and capes and cloaks, the purses and mirrors and the linen
- 30:47garments and tiaras and shells. So God's going to take away all
- 30:51that instead of fragrance, there will be a stench instead of a
- 30:57sash, a rope instead of a well dressed hair, baldness instead
- 31:04of fine clothing, sackcloth instead of beauty branding.
- 31:10Oh my gosh, that's kind of weird when you think of a branding,
- 31:13you know, like when you sear something on your head or on a,
- 31:16you know, an animal, if it's branded, it's, you know, there's
- 31:20a, a, a marking of possession. So these are people who have
- 31:26given over themselves to the beast, if you want to call it
- 31:31that. That's the, that's not a literal
- 31:33thing. It's it's, well, it's probably
- 31:35like a spiritual beast, but it's representative of human beings
- 31:40are going to be a part of this thing, but it's going to be some
- 31:43governing authority. And it's metaphorically called
- 31:47the beast, but it's something that people will pledge
- 31:50allegiance to some governmental type thing.
- 31:54And this mark, mark of the beast, like I didn't even think
- 31:58about Isaiah actually talking about the mark of the beast.
- 32:00But now when I'm reading this, I'm like branding, that's like a
- 32:04mark of a beast. Like if it's on your head, your
- 32:06forehead or your hand, that's like a mark, you're branded by
- 32:09it. And so and it's like anybody who
- 32:12has just like we read in Revelation, anybody who has this
- 32:15mark, they're going to have the sores break out.
- 32:19So this matches up. This is amazing right now.
- 32:21Like seriously, I'm just now catching this part of it, how
- 32:26the mark of the beast is actually indicated here.
- 32:29And, and so if people, if, yeah, if people take it, it's, it's a
- 32:38warning right here. Do not take it because.
- 32:40And if you, if you, we or anybody are around, I, I don't
- 32:44know at what point Jesus will return to gather his those who
- 32:49have prepared themselves because they are not subject to wrath.
- 32:52I know this is part of the wrath.
- 32:55So I have a feeling that the people who have prepared
- 32:58themselves in advance will not be around to see this because it
- 33:02says that if we, that we are not subject to wrath.
- 33:06And this is like the bowl judgments, these, this is the
- 33:10wrath of God, the bowls of wrath.
- 33:12So, but the people who are here in that day, they will see that
- 33:19the ones that take the mark are going to have these sores break
- 33:23out on them. It's apparently going to called
- 33:25cause baldness and they're not going to have beauty.
- 33:29They're going to have this baldness and they're going to be
- 33:30marked whatever this marking is. So another word of warning, your
- 33:36men will fall by sword, your warriors in battle, the gates of
- 33:40Zion will lament and mourn. Destitute.
- 33:44She will sit on the ground. So that's the end of Chapter 3.
- 33:49Not such an uplifting one, but a good one for warnings at least.
- 33:53So I will read through the questions and answers for
- 33:57Chapter 3, and then we'll conclude.
- 33:59We'll stop there. So what was Isaiah predicting in
- 34:03parts of Judah? This prophecy was beginning to
- 34:05come true in Isaiah's lifetime, but it's real fulfillment would
- 34:10come with Babylon's invasion and subsequent exile of the nation's
- 34:14leaders in 586 BC. Well, part of it, I think.
- 34:19I think there's more to it, especially when we've like just
- 34:23seen that there's a mark of the beast that's talked about here.
- 34:27What did having having child rulers indicate?
- 34:31That Jewish society was in chaos and upheaval.
- 34:36In a culture in which men dominated the power structures,
- 34:40having a child or woman as a ruler was a sign of a
- 34:44devastated, ruined country. Isaiah's prediction may have
- 34:48also pointed to the future carnage of war.
- 34:52If most of the men were killed in battle, only children and
- 34:56women would be left to rule. Why would a cloak make someone a
- 35:02leader? This graphic image underscores
- 35:04the devastation Isaiah predicted for Judah.
- 35:08Though men didn't normally need to be pressed into leadership,
- 35:12Isaiah seemed to be claiming that the nation would become so
- 35:15impoverished that anyone left with a cloak would be considered
- 35:20privileged and thus a candidate for leadership.
- 35:24How did the how did the look on their faces testify against
- 35:28them? The reference to Sodom indicates
- 35:32that, like the Sodomites, the people of Judah made no effort
- 35:37to conceal their sin. Their faces reflected sins such
- 35:42as greed, lust, and envy. But God would punish His people
- 35:47by throwing them into utter confusion without any able
- 35:52leaders in that chaos, their faces would reflect fear,
- 35:57distress and sorrow. And as I'm reading that, I'm
- 36:01also thinking about like, because of like sodomy and pride
- 36:05month and all that. And I'm thinking just like, like
- 36:07the the makeup that goes into all of that, like their faces
- 36:11reflect it and it's not hidden anymore.
- 36:13Like men dressing like women and stuff like that.
- 36:16Like, that's another example of how the look on their faces
- 36:20would testify against them. How were the leaders crushing
- 36:25God's people and grinding the faces of the poor?
- 36:28This was done through a variety of exploitations, manipulating
- 36:32prices through dishonest weights and measures, coveting and
- 36:36defrauding others of their property, accepting bribes,
- 36:41lending to the poor at high interest rates and then
- 36:44foreclosing on their properties, and so on.
- 36:48Why was God's? Why was God angry with the women
- 36:52of Zion? Most commentators believe Isaiah
- 36:55was speaking to a literal upper class of women.
- 36:59Some however, think that the term women of Zion is a
- 37:02personification of a class of people, Jerusalem's self
- 37:06indulgent, rich or the nation as a whole who cared little for
- 37:11anything but their own comfort. Either way, Isaiah's
- 37:15descriptions, outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes
- 37:19were symptoms of their self-centered lives and inward
- 37:23moral decay. How would Judah be punished
- 37:28through military defeat? The stench, rope baldness and
- 37:31branding describe the treatment of people defeated in war and
- 37:35forced into foreign captivity. Reports of this squalor, our
- 37:40hordship hardships of modern WARF refugees offer some
- 37:45analogies. And that's the end of chapter 3.
- 37:51So come back next time for chapter 4.
- 37:54Hopefully there will be some something up there is something
- 37:57more uplifting. So anyway, it's good to be in
- 38:01the Word of God every day because it makes us think about
- 38:05God and examine our lives, and that's really important,
- 38:10especially now.
