- 0:29Speaker 1: New Orlands Saints quarterbacks receivers one a little player led
- 0:32Speaker 1: workout out in San Diego with the Goat Drew Brees
- 0:35Speaker 1: and uh Lance Moore was there as well, former Saint
- 0:39Speaker 1: Great goodness join us for a couple of minutes.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Lance, We always appreciate it, man, How are you doing well?
- 0:44Speaker 3: Enjoying this? You know, eighty degree weather. It's sunning at
- 0:48Speaker 3: my pool right now. You know it's summertime everywhere, right,
- 0:51Speaker 3: but it's always summer in San Diego.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Why At, oh Man, I love you, but this is
- 1:01Speaker 1: This week is literally one of the hottest weeks on record.
- 1:06Speaker 1: The airtempts are going to get close to one hundred
- 1:07Speaker 1: with the heat index is supposed to approach one ten
- 1:09Speaker 1: every every day.
- 1:10Speaker 2: This is.
- 1:13Speaker 3: No thank you, Oh man, God.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I can only think about those camps and Jackson that
- 1:20Speaker 1: y'all were in with With Sean. Everyone talks about the
- 1:23Speaker 1: two thousand, his first one in two thousand and six, Yes,
- 1:27Speaker 1: do you have nightmares about that?
- 1:29Speaker 3: And you know what, I was going into my second
- 1:33Speaker 3: season and was mostly practice squad guy, and was even
- 1:38Speaker 3: home early in the season, so I wasn't in a
- 1:41Speaker 3: position to complain about the heat, the grind and all
- 1:45Speaker 3: the stuff that was as crazy as all the veterans
- 1:48Speaker 3: said they they ended up calling us the Junction boys,
- 1:51Speaker 3: because the vets were like, this is ridiculous, Like somebody's
- 1:54Speaker 3: going to die out here and it's going to be
- 1:56Speaker 3: the coach's fault. And for me, as a young guy,
- 1:59Speaker 3: I was just like, I'm happy for this opportunity. I'll
- 2:01Speaker 3: do whatever it takes to make this pick.
- 2:04Speaker 1: The CBA in twenty eleven took care of a lot
- 2:06Speaker 1: of that, but in the meantime, it looked beautiful in
- 2:09Speaker 1: San Diego. Wells, if you in mind just walks through
- 2:12Speaker 1: how did that all come together? The workouts out.
- 2:14Speaker 3: There, well, I mean there was something that Drew used
- 2:18Speaker 3: to do back in the day, right, Like, he's lived
- 2:20Speaker 3: out in San Diego in the office, and since he
- 2:23Speaker 3: was a charger clearly, and so a lot of the
- 2:26Speaker 3: years he'd have a group of the guys come out
- 2:29Speaker 3: and it wasn't just a throwing session, right. Like, There's
- 2:33Speaker 3: one of Drew's business partners and buddies named Todd Dirkin
- 2:37Speaker 3: owns a facility out here. So the guys get workouts,
- 2:41Speaker 3: they get massages, they get the nutrition, they get all
- 2:43Speaker 3: the recovery that they could ask for, and they go
- 2:47Speaker 3: out and they get work in on the field. And
- 2:49Speaker 3: I think Shuck, I don't know if he reached out
- 2:51Speaker 3: to Drew or I Drew reached out to him, but somehow,
- 2:54Speaker 3: some way, Shuck ended up working out with Todd Dirk
- 2:57Speaker 3: in this offseason. And so I think that's kind of
- 3:00Speaker 3: the idea that Shuck got what Drew used to do
- 3:02Speaker 3: this and it worked out well for them. So maybe
- 3:04Speaker 3: I should invite my guys out. And like you said earlier,
- 3:07Speaker 3: there was some sessions here last week and I got
- 3:10Speaker 3: a chance to get out there on the field with
- 3:12Speaker 3: the guys, and uh, well, I guess it was two
- 3:14Speaker 3: weeks ago now, but just the the level of concentration,
- 3:19Speaker 3: the level of work and actually getting to see Tyler
- 3:23Speaker 3: Shuck's league guys with no coaches around, kind of running
- 3:28Speaker 3: the show. It was pretty special to be a part of.
- 3:31Speaker 3: And I now understand what the Saints understood and thought
- 3:37Speaker 3: when they drafted him in the second round last year.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Can we dig a little deeper there, Lance, because that's
- 3:41Speaker 1: I think the fascinating that most people are interested in,
- 3:44Speaker 1: Like the simple question is why, how what did you
- 3:47Speaker 1: see that led you to believe that?
- 3:49Speaker 3: Well, the first of I mean, the thing that stood
- 3:51Speaker 3: out the most was because the leadership, Like I was
- 3:54Speaker 3: expecting to show up on the first day and Drew
- 3:57Speaker 3: and Todd Dirkin would be out there kind of running
- 3:59Speaker 3: the show, and Tyler's just kind of quarterbacking. It was
- 4:02Speaker 3: like the complete opposite. Drew wasn't even there the first
- 4:04Speaker 3: day because he was at a World Cup team, but
- 4:08Speaker 3: Tyler literally ran the whole show, and he was coaching
- 4:12Speaker 3: every position up and talking about the things that he
- 4:14Speaker 3: wants to see and where they need to improve and
- 4:18Speaker 3: all the adjustments off of certain things. Like I was
- 4:21Speaker 3: thoroughly impressed. And it's not just about talking in front
- 4:25Speaker 3: of the guys or telling them what you want from them.
- 4:28Speaker 3: But it's the response that I saw from the guys,
- 4:30Speaker 3: the respect that he already has gotten from the guys,
- 4:34Speaker 3: and I think that's a big part of the reason
- 4:36Speaker 3: why the team was so successful with Tyler Shuck at
- 4:39Speaker 3: the Helm last year. Like they like this guy, they
- 4:42Speaker 3: respect this guy, and they see the potential in him.
- 4:45Speaker 3: And now it's about putting the work in so that
- 4:47Speaker 3: they can develop the chemistry and the camaraderie and the
- 4:50Speaker 3: timing and all the things that you do in the
- 4:52Speaker 3: offseason leading into training camp. I see this as a
- 4:56Speaker 3: unit that could be sneaky sneaky good this season.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Lands if I asked you, and Lance Moore's our guest,
- 5:03Speaker 1: the intangibles clearly are there. Physically anything that you saw
- 5:07Speaker 1: from Tyler from Tyler Shuck that caught your eye, he.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Can spind it. I mean, it's one thing to see
- 5:14Speaker 3: it on TV. It's one thing to see it on
- 5:16Speaker 3: highlights and social media, but to see it in person,
- 5:20Speaker 3: it's pretty impressive. Now, Like you talk about arm strength
- 5:24Speaker 3: a lot when it comes to quarterbacks, especially quarterbacks in
- 5:27Speaker 3: the NFL, but to me, it's it's there's more to
- 5:31Speaker 3: it than just how strong the guys are. Is like,
- 5:34Speaker 3: it's the accurate, it's his timing good. And it seems
- 5:37Speaker 3: to me like Tyler Shuck has all three of those things.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Doing it over and over again with his past catchers
- 5:44Speaker 3: is going to be what kind of propels them to
- 5:46Speaker 3: the next level. But as far as the physical tools,
- 5:49Speaker 3: I mean, he's got the size, he's got the athleticism.
- 5:52Speaker 3: You couple that with the intangibles like he could be
- 5:55Speaker 3: scary scary good.
- 5:57Speaker 1: They flip it and ask you about some of the
- 5:58Speaker 1: past catchers who are out there. See, Chris Olave was there,
- 6:02Speaker 1: Jordan Tyson, a lot of people around here, of course,
- 6:04Speaker 1: Noberrian Brown from his yer at LSU. What or who
- 6:09Speaker 1: maybe stood out to you among the pass catchers.
- 6:12Speaker 3: You know what it's I mean, it's funny you ask
- 6:15Speaker 3: uh and you mentioned Chris Olave first. We all know
- 6:18Speaker 3: how great of a player Chris Olave is. But to me,
- 6:22Speaker 3: to me, the thing that stood out most like he
- 6:24Speaker 3: was the only true veteran receiver that was here. I
- 6:29Speaker 3: could see based on his reaction to the to the
- 6:32Speaker 3: things that I was saying to him or the coaching
- 6:34Speaker 3: points that he's not satisfied. He wants to take coaching,
- 6:39Speaker 3: He wants to keep getting better, and he understands, like
- 6:43Speaker 3: most true pros do, that you're never ever a finished product,
- 6:47Speaker 3: and you're always trying to get better and improve. And
- 6:50Speaker 3: I saw that from him each time out and I
- 6:54Speaker 3: and I really feel like he's you know, he had
- 6:56Speaker 3: his career year last year, but I think he's going
- 6:58Speaker 3: to take another step this season. And and and part
- 7:01Speaker 3: of that to me is obviously you got to stay healthy,
- 7:05Speaker 3: but but beyond that, I think a little bit more
- 7:09Speaker 3: yards after the catch this season potentially, and really being
- 7:13Speaker 3: a guy that can be counted on in big time
- 7:17Speaker 3: moments consistently. It's one thing to say, Okay, you know
- 7:20Speaker 3: this guy's got this many third down conversions or this
- 7:23Speaker 3: guy's got this many touchdowns. But but having big time moments,
- 7:29Speaker 3: having a guy that you can just say, hey, we're
- 7:31Speaker 3: going to our guy, I think that's what we're going
- 7:33Speaker 3: to see more of this year.
- 7:34Speaker 1: From Chris Oliva, Lance Moore is with us for a
- 7:37Speaker 1: couple more minutes. Former Saint Great. We're all looking to
- 7:40Speaker 1: see if Lobby can build off last year. They obviously
- 7:42Speaker 1: bringing a young guy and Jordan Tyson actually three rookie
- 7:45Speaker 1: draft picks at receiver. That's the most in since I
- 7:49Speaker 1: think it's the eighties, since they had that many draft
- 7:50Speaker 1: picks at a receiver. Any of the rookies stand out
- 7:53Speaker 1: like anything catch your eye?
- 7:55Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I mean they're they're all. Jordan Tyson was
- 7:58Speaker 3: not here, so I'll let that cat out of the bag.
- 8:02Speaker 3: But but the other two guys, I mean, Bryce Land
- 8:05Speaker 3: a guy that's got so many tools physically. He's big,
- 8:09Speaker 3: he's long, he can run, He's got great ball skills
- 8:12Speaker 3: as far as tracking the ball down the field. But
- 8:15Speaker 3: but I think he's a little bit wrong. I think
- 8:17Speaker 3: this this training camp is gonna be huge for him
- 8:20Speaker 3: to be able to get this type of coaching, the
- 8:23Speaker 3: level of coaching that it's gonna take for him to
- 8:26Speaker 3: be a consistent guy on Sundays. I think I think
- 8:28Speaker 3: the ability's there, but now he needs to get the
- 8:31Speaker 3: coaching and kind of take the next step on the
- 8:33Speaker 3: mental side of the game. He's gonna be fine. Barryon
- 8:36Speaker 3: Brown is a guy that's so interesting to me. He's
- 8:39Speaker 3: he's freakously athletic, can run, got great ball skills, got
- 8:43Speaker 3: a great attitude and kind of personality but it's like,
- 8:47Speaker 3: this dude is gonna be so good in a return game,
- 8:50Speaker 3: they're gonna have to find ways to get him the
- 8:52Speaker 3: ball on offense too, because he's so electric, and I could,
- 8:55Speaker 3: I could see him being a part of this offense.
- 8:57Speaker 3: It's not. I don't think it's gonna be a SI
- 9:00Speaker 3: situation where he's only returning plunts and kicks because he's
- 9:03Speaker 3: too dynamic with the ball in his hands.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Lance, you were just one more if I could. You
- 9:08Speaker 1: were obviously a part of a seismic transition in the organization.
- 9:12Speaker 1: You know, you're rookie and O five the Katrina year
- 9:14Speaker 1: as we mentioned, and then was the Peyton Breeze era
- 9:17Speaker 1: all the way through the Super Bowl. Do you notice
- 9:20Speaker 1: even from Afar any similar characteristics with with Kellen Moore
- 9:26Speaker 1: taking over and trying to build now, obviously not the
- 9:28Speaker 1: Katrina situation that's unique all in of itself. I'm just
- 9:30Speaker 1: talking about building an organization. What it took to go
- 9:33Speaker 1: from a team that wasn't winning to one that became
- 9:36Speaker 1: a contender.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Absolutely, And I think it just starts with the culture
- 9:41Speaker 3: shift a coach, especially a first time coach, to be
- 9:44Speaker 3: able to come in and kind of instill his culture,
- 9:47Speaker 3: get a bunch of his own guys, and his own
- 9:50Speaker 3: philosophy pushed upon the guys, and the guys embracing it fully.
- 9:55Speaker 3: That to me is the sign of a true head coach.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Not to say that Dennis Allen wasn't trying to insert
- 10:04Speaker 3: his culture, but as a part of you know, being
- 10:08Speaker 3: part of Sean Payton's staff for so long, it's hard
- 10:12Speaker 3: to create your own thing that's completely different, and it's
- 10:16Speaker 3: hard to break away from something that you know so
- 10:18Speaker 3: well and had so much much success in. It's pretty
- 10:22Speaker 3: cool to see the guys embrace that. The guys seem
- 10:25Speaker 3: to genuinely love and care about one another, and that
- 10:29Speaker 3: to me is like one of those things that isn't
- 10:32Speaker 3: spoken about a lot. But the teams that spend time together,
- 10:35Speaker 3: the teams that genuinely love and care for one another
- 10:38Speaker 3: and like being around each other, are usually the teams
- 10:41Speaker 3: that win.
- 10:42Speaker 1: He is Lance Moore, former New Orleans Saint Great, got
- 10:46Speaker 1: an up close view of the Saints out in San
- 10:47Speaker 1: Diego a couple of weeks ago.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Enjoy that eighty seven humidity free.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Beautiful sunshine the sandy white beaches.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Go down to del Mar Ever hang out.
- 10:57Speaker 3: There, absolutely right. Amens from my house, man, I tell
- 11:01Speaker 3: you what I.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Tell you next next year we're doing the entire month
- 11:06Speaker 1: of shows in July at the Lancemore's house, going to
- 11:09Speaker 1: del Mar every day. He doesn't do it, Lancey. We
- 11:13Speaker 1: appreciate you always, man, thank you so much for making
- 11:14Speaker 1: a few.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Minutes for us.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Yes, sir, take care.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Well, that's the great lance More
