- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Masterminds Podcast.

- 0:14SPEAKER_00: We discuss powerful concepts and life-changing ideas that are going to take you a step closer to long-term success.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: My mission is always the same to turn you into a true mastermind.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: In this video, we talk about two types of people: winners and those who make excuses.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: It's very easy for everyone to just make excuses.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: I couldn't do this because I'm not tall enough, because I'm too busy, because I don't have enough money.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: It's very easy to make excuses.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: But a winner builds systems.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Now, here's something you need to understand about building systems.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Motivation is weak.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Motivation will not get you far.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: You know, anytime somebody asks if I'm a motivational speaker, I say no, because I'm not trying to motivate you.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to activate you into building systems, into building good habits, into developing your discipline to be able to take charge of your life and make things happen for yourself, to throw away all the excuses, to throw away all the reasons why you cannot, and look at the reasons why you can.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Now, the fact that you are watching this video already tells me you are the type of person who is ready to make a change.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: You are the type of person who is tired of the excuses, tired of all the reasons why their life will fail, and is ready to build systems that is going to make sure they succeed.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: So now let's talk about how you can do this.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Now, one of the surest ways to build systems that actually work towards your success is to develop new and good habits.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Now, a research done in University College of London shows that it takes an average of 66 days to effectively develop a new habit.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: 66 days.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: So that means you need to be consistent for over two months in any new act or any new skill to turn it into a habit.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Now, that's not an easy task.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: It sounds easy when you hear it, but trust me, after two weeks, you may just slide right back to your old bad habits.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: So you need to even build a system on developing a habit.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: I watched a video that was quite interesting to me, and he called it the two-minute process or the two-minute rule.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: He said, if you want to develop a new habit, make it so easy to do that habit that you can get going in two minutes.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: So this is what it means.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Let's say you want to go for a run every morning.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Make sure that as you are going to bed the night before, you have your running clothes by your bed.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: You have your running shoes by your door.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: So that when you wake up in the morning, the process to take the run takes you only two minutes.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Because after the two minutes, your mind may slide back into, oh, but I'm tired.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Maybe let me do this later.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, this is too difficult today.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: And after giving yourself that excuse for three days back to back, you just stop running altogether.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: So you need to build a system that will help you to build the good habits.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: So habits turn into character.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Character builds who you are, and that then leads to success.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Everything you want to achieve in this life happens from daily consistent efforts to become the person that deserves the success.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: You cannot become a successful person with the habits of an unsuccessful person.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: You can become rich with the habits of a poor man.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: You can become healthy with the habits of an unhealthy person.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: You can become smart with the habits of a dumb person.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: If you want to get smart, read every day.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: If you want to be healthy, eat right every day.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Go to the gym every day or work out at home every day.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: If you want to become rich, save every day.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Invest every day.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Learn more about finance every day.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: The systems that you build, the discipline that you have in maintaining these systems is what takes you to success.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: It's not motivation.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Motivation is fleeting.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: It's very easy for everyone to have one big strong burst of energy and say, I'm going to do this big thing, you know.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'm going to put this big money in this investment and make sure it makes me a lot of money.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: But it's not investing once that makes you wealthy.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: It's investing all the time.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: It's very easy to say, I'm turning my life around.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: I'm going to the gym today and I'm going to lift, you know, 50 kg easily because I'm strong.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: But that's not how you build muscles.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: It's from lifting every single day.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: It's actually better for you to just lift 5 kg dumbbelly of your life, never even increasing the weights, just those same 5kg every day, than to go to the gym once a week or once every two weeks lifting 50 kg.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Consistency is managed through systems.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Motivation is for the weak-minded who just want to impress themselves or impress somebody else.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Build systems.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: One trick you can use in building systems is the reward metric.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Our brain likes patterns.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: And our brain forms patterns based on what it receives from an action.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: So this is what I mean by that.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: When I wanted to start planning my week every single week, I struggled with it at first.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: You know, I'll do it this week, then the next week I wouldn't do it, then I'll forget about it for three weeks.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: And then I watched a video which talked about attaching a reward system to building a new habit.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: So I decided to try it.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: So now every week, every Saturday, I decide to go somewhere peaceful and serene, order, you know, some good food, order a nice drink, and then while I'm waiting for the food and the drink, I do my weekly planning.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: So by the time my weekly planning has reached a point, my drink comes, I feel good as I'm drinking it, I continue my planning.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: By the time I'm done, my food comes, I enjoy my meal, and then I just enjoy the outdoors for a bit.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: So my brain has started to associate weekly planning with the pleasure I get from this outdoor activity.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: And it became much easier to plan every single week.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: So you can do this for yourself.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Whatever new habit that you are trying to develop, whatever new skill that you are trying to make sure you build, attach it to a reward system.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Reward yourself every time you do that so that your brain can't wait for you to have that habit as a daily habit so we can benefit from the reward that you get after doing the habit.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Let me tell you the story of a comedian who actually inspired me.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: So Jerry Seinfield did something very simple but effective.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: He took a calendar and then he decided that every single day he was going to write down at least one joke.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: And once he does that, he will mark an X on the day so that he can watch the chain of X's and see the progress he's making.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: And by doing this, he actually became one of the most prolific comedians of all time because he was always prepared.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: He didn't wait for just motivation or for you know a random stroke of genius to be able to be funny.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: He was consistently writing jokes.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: And I myself did the same thing when I started out as a producer.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: I made sure every single day I produced at least one beat.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: It built my skill, it made me super ready.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: When an artist walks into the studio, I have tons of beats for them, for them to choose from.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: When you are able to build systems that guarantee your continuous success, then you can actually know for yourself that you are building something good.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: You cannot wait for those one or two moments where, oh, I have a great idea.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: It's good to have inspiring great ideas.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: But for continuous success, you need continuous, effective systems.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: So you need to understand there's a big difference between excused thinking and system thinking.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Excuse thinking is reactive and mostly emotional, whereas system thinking is proactive and strategic.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: For instance, excuse thinking looks like I don't have enough time to eat healthy.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: Whereas system thinking is I'll prep all my meals on Sunday.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: Excuse thinking sounds like I can't focus on all this chaos.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: Whereas system thinking is I'll turn off my notifications and block time to finish this task.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: We live in a world where people are enjoying being able to give excuses for all the things they've not been able to do.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Blame your parents.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Blame your lifestyle.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: I find it so funny when people use excuses of their own lifestyle to say they can't do something.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Like when someone tells you, wake up early in the morning, exercise, and plan before your day starts, and they say, I can't do that because I normally sleep too late.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Who do you want to change that?
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Build a system that helps you to sleep early.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: Set an alarm for your sleep time.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: Meditate in the night so that you feel calm before you sleep.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Lie down in bed, close your eyes, put your phone away, turn off all your screens, and make yourself sleep so that you can wake up early enough to be effective.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Excuses are for weak people.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Because trust me, if we wanted to, everybody can give an excuse for why they won't make it.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: But if you really want to win, you will build a system that will make every situation in your life work in your favor.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: And now it's leaders.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: And when I say leaders, I'm talking to parents, bosses, SU leaders, you know, school reps, anybody in a position where people follow you.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: You need to help your people also build systems and not excuses.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: You need to train people and not just give them instructions.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Let them understand why they need to do things in this particular way so they can build a system around it to keep doing it that way.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: You need to allow people to make mistakes and learn and then show them the right way to do things.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: Don't over-parent your kids.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: Don't over-parent your employees.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: Don't over-parent anybody who you are leading.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: Rather, build systems that help them to succeed and become greater.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: So now it's time to ask yourself: what in your life have you been blaming excuses for?
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: What is it that you've been trying to do, but you always have a reason for why you can't do it.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: Change that now.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: Build a system around it and make sure you are able to achieve it.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Build and develop a new habit.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: And when developing the habit, make sure that it's achievable.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: Build a system for your habits.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Don't just say I'm going to work out every day.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: Set an alarm for it so that it's automated because you may forget.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: If you say you're doing intermittent fasting, so you don't want to eat past 6 p.m.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: Set an alarm for 5 p.m.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: to prompt you so that you eat on time and not say, oh, I lost track of time.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: It's 9 p.m.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: but I'm hungry, so I'm going to eat anyway.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: Automate it.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Be diligent on it.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: Be disciplined.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: And once you start to build these new habits, your excuses will start to fall away and you will slowly see the success that you are definitely looking for.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: Make sure you build systems, throw away excuses so that you can help yourself to truly become a mastermind.
