- 0:01Most people tend to respond to life circumstances and
- 0:05opportunities based on past experience, training, education,
- 0:11and any guidelines or rules they have imbibed from their past,
- 0:16All combined with their basic outlook on their lives, their
- 0:19desires, their needs and their circumstances.
- 0:23We can say that they are focused primarily on the past and the
- 0:27present. They do not attempt to develop
- 0:30the power of imagination to any degree as they do not see how it
- 0:35fits their day-to-day lives. They tend to repeat habitual
- 0:39patterns and live their lives and carry out their responses
- 0:44along predetermined and highly predictable lines.
- 0:49There are others, however, who value and utilize the power of
- 0:53imagination. Imagination can take several
- 0:56forms. It can be inventive to develop
- 1:00advancements, progress, or otherwise potentially
- 1:04foreseeable steps forward in a progression.
- 1:09In that instance, it is more an extension of the use of reason
- 1:12and the logical intellect to assess what next steps may
- 1:17result from a present that is based on a sequential series of
- 1:21past steps. Progress in this case is based
- 1:25on incremental development, and the use of imagination is
- 1:29focused on trying to understand the trajectory and line of
- 1:33development. Another type of imagination is
- 1:38essentially a process of visualization of what we would
- 1:42like to see as a result of some activity.
- 1:45Thus, runners are asked to visualize the running of their
- 1:49race so that when the actual event takes place, they already
- 1:53have a formation in their minds. This type of imagination also
- 1:58has a role in healing. The placebo effect is very much
- 2:03based on the imagination of the individual anticipating they are
- 2:07getting real medical support for a condition from which they are
- 2:11suffering, and that imagination actually sets processes going in
- 2:16the mind and body to undertake the necessary healing.
- 2:20It is claimed that the placebo effect accounts for as much as
- 2:2430% of the results in studies that utilize a placebo.
- 2:30Yet we can also speculate that even for those who get the
- 2:34active drug, a considerable amount of the actual healing is
- 2:39due to the same effect working in conjunction with the drug's
- 2:43specific action. When we refer to imagination,
- 2:48however, we primarily refer to the ability to envision
- 2:52something that does not exist and is not simply a next step in
- 2:56a sequence, but something new and unexpected.
- 3:01People have watched birds fly and dreamed of flying.
- 3:04They work to understand the principles of aerodynamics, air
- 3:08currents, lift and gravity and forward momentum, et cetera.
- 3:14Eventually, this led to the development of numerous forms of
- 3:18machinery you we use for flying airplanes, dirigibles, rocket
- 3:24ships, helicopters, and even personal jet packs, with further
- 3:29advancements sure to follow. Similarly, someone envisioned
- 3:35landing on the moon at a time when there were no technological
- 3:39capabilities that would support that idea.
- 3:43Eventually, however, that imagination led to the
- 3:45development of a space program and the moon landings that have
- 3:50occurred. Imagination may be a fanciful
- 3:54recombining of elements that ordinarily do not belong
- 3:58together. It may be a vision that an
- 4:01individual has that leads to some creative result.
- 4:06Nikola Tesla described how he saw the vision of the
- 4:09alternating current motor and later was able to realize that
- 4:13in a practical form. He similarly was able to
- 4:17envision wireless communication, wireless transmission of energy,
- 4:22protective Shields, et cetera, that clearly represented and
- 4:27advanced use of imagination. The Tibetan Buddhist tradition
- 4:32makes considerable use of imagination through training of
- 4:35practices in visualization that aid the practitioner in the
- 4:40achievement of the spiritual intention in their own lives and
- 4:44experience. When we envision a world of
- 4:49peace, a world of harmony, A world of sharing and caring, we
- 4:55are practising another form of imagination that differs from
- 4:59the reality of the external world as most human beings
- 5:03experience it. As more people undertake this
- 5:07form of imagination, it gains power of effectuation, so that
- 5:12at some point in the future we shall have overcome the forces
- 5:17of darkness and division that destroy, pollute, breed
- 5:22separation and hatred and create thereby massive suffering, wars,
- 5:27mass migrations and terrible painful diseases and deaths due
- 5:32to pollution and other mismanagement of our lives
- 5:35collectively on this planet, the mother writes quote.
- 5:42Imagination is a power of formation.
- 5:45In fact, people who have no imagination are not formative
- 5:49from the mental point of view. They cannot give a concrete
- 5:53power to their thought. Imagination is a very powerful
- 5:57means of action. For instance, if you have a pain
- 6:01somewhere, and if you imagine that you are making the pain
- 6:04disappear or are removing it or destroying it, all kinds of
- 6:09images like that, well, you succeed perfectly.
- 6:14There's a story of a person who was losing her hair at a
- 6:17fantastic rate, enough to become bald within a few weeks.
- 6:21And then someone told her, when you brush your hair, imagine
- 6:26that it is growing and will grow very fast.
- 6:29And always while brushing her hair, she said, oh, my hair is
- 6:34growing. Oh, it will grow very fast.
- 6:38And it happened. But what people usually do is
- 6:41tell themselves, ah, all my hair is falling again and I shall
- 6:45become bald. That's certain.
- 6:46It's going to happen and of course it happens.
