- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talking Tech Podcast, part of the Guns Up Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: I am your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host, Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: Tristan, how are you doing today, man?
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: I am trying to stay dry, as is most of the state of Texas right now.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: That's that's what's going on here.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: Crazy weather out there.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: I I feel the same way.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: I'm out here in Louisiana, but we just had a monsoon today.
- 1:04SPEAKER_03: So, man, rain is not so much a good thing.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: It can get a little much, but uh, I'm very happy that Raiderland was kept safe from the twisters.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: Um, glad nothing really happened there other than spectacular photos.
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: Those are crazy, man.
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: I was like, I was worried for all of West Texas, but also at the same time, you're kind of just taking it in, being like, whoa, this is pretty sweet.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: That's West Texas, man.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: Weather is just unbounded there.
- 1:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: But that's enough for small talk weather here on Talking Tech.
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: We we have some things to talk about this week.
- 1:40SPEAKER_03: Uh, big time news out of the basketball front.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: Uh, Mac McClung has decided to keep his name in the NBA draft, so he will not be returning to Texas Tech next season.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: Uh, Tristan, uh, how are you feeling?
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: Are you happy?
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: Are you sad?
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: What's going on?
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: The Mac Groll has left the college pond and he's swimming towards the professional ocean.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: Was that a good metaphor?
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: That was all right.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: That was bad.
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: Cool.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm not overly surprised.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: He it took him a long time to announce that he was coming back.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Um, I think we were all a little 50-50 on it.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: Obviously, I'm disappointed because I wanted the veterancy back.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: I wanted to see how he did in a more open offensive system at Texas Tech.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: But if if he thinks that if he's talking to agents and uh talking to people in the business that think he thinks he has a real shot to go make some money, I'm not gonna blame the young man.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: This was the goal from the start, this was his dream, and it can't fault the guy for chasing his dreams.
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, man.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: I mean, the thing is, he's gonna make money either way, he's gonna either, you know, somehow make a NBA roster or he's gonna go play and have a long career overseas.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: And he's one of those types of guys.
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's too talented not to make it, he's too driven not to make it.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: So, um, you know, I wish Mac the best.
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: He's uh some people are saying he went probably a little too early.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: They're getting kind of flashbacks of like Zaire Smith, those type of guys that have maybe left tech a year, Jamias Ramsey maybe left tech a year or two early.
- 3:09SPEAKER_03: But you can't, I'm not gonna blame the guy for chasing his dreams.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I think he's a talented kid.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: Do I think he's gonna get drafted?
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: Uh, probably not.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: I think if any, if anything, somebody may take a chance late, late second round.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: Uh, but uh, you know, he's he's a good enough player to have a professional career in basketball.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's good to have just Red Raiders in the professional sphere in general.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: It's cool that Texas Tech is a school where we have to struggle with keeping guys in college longer or going to go play in the big time.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: So there's a give and take to both of it.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: But overall, I I do hope him that he get, I hope he gets out there, gets that bag, wish him the best.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: But um I I I hope our guards are ready to step up because this is now a huge hole, you know, because we were definitely looking to have him as the if not maybe the leader of the team, uh, especially uh at that position.
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: So um uh we definitely have some more to look into.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, man.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: We have a uh a couple new guards coming on to the team.
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: That's a good thing.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: We have guys that are gonna need to step up uh this season in terms of uh Clarence Ndolney.
- 4:14SPEAKER_03: Now he's gonna have a huge role on this coming year's team.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: Uh, we may, of course, add another guard, you know, before next season starts, but uh, you know, you're really looking at I was writing down, and we'll talk about uh the newest addition to the basketball team here in a second, but kind of just running down the roster right now.
- 4:31SPEAKER_03: Uh Malik Wilson, Clarence Ndolney, Avery Benson, Sidar Calhoun, who is the new addition from Florida State.
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: Those are kind of making up our guards right now without Mac McClung.
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: Uh, and then we kind of have a uh plethora of wings, uh forwards, if you will, kind of positionless basketball type of players.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, in Davion Warren, Adonis Arms, Kevin McCullough coming back, Chabuzo Agbo, KJ Allen, those type of guys.
- 4:58SPEAKER_03: Uh, what we're really lacking is the big guys right now.
- 5:00SPEAKER_03: It's not so much the guards.
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, and with Mac leaving, you know, I would be much more concerned even if Marcus Santos Silva left right now because we do not have a ton of big guys on this roster.
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: But um, back to the guards, just you know, Malik Wilson and Claire Sedoni, I think, are the guys to look out for to really take these minutes uh and and just the overall um what Mac was bringing to the team, you know?
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: And I'm I'm sure plenty of these guys are excited for the opportunity to grab some more minutes in his absence because he definitely soaked up a good amount of those.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: And it's so it's gonna be their time.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be it's they're gonna be upperclassmen now, they're gonna be veterans, so it's it's definitely gonna be on them to do so.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: And you know, our while we're talking about NBA prospects for our Texas Tech Red Raiders, there's still a player with an asterisk next to his name.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: So and I I can't believe we we heard about Mac with uh heading to the NBA before him.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: So, what do you think about that?
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: What do you think about Mr.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: Uh TJ?
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: Well, TJ Shannon, man, I mean, I you know, I've I've been seeing a lot of different takes on this from uh from tech Twitter, from uh fellow podcasts on the Guns Up Nation Podcast Network.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: Uh, just is Terrence Shannon gonna come back next year?
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: And and I think right now uh he's projected to be kind of a second-round pick, mid-second-round pick, um, looking kind of like what Jamias Ramsey was looking.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: The last year was all crapped up because there was no NCA tournament.
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: Drafting pro the prospects was hard.
- 6:29SPEAKER_03: It was hard to tell where guys were gonna go in the draft.
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: This year it's a little easier since we had a full season.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: Um, I think if you're asking me right now, I think Terrence Shannon stays in the NBA draft.
- 6:40SPEAKER_03: I think he's got all the intangibles.
- 6:41SPEAKER_03: I think a lot of NBA teams are gonna like what he brings to the table.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: He still has a lot to work on in terms of shooting, in terms of in you know, his overall skill set when it comes to like dribbling the ball, finishing at the rim, that kind of stuff.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: Um, but I I just think he has the height, he has the ability, the athleticism, everything that you want in an NBA player.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: So uh, and him being a lefty doesn't hurt either.
- 7:07SPEAKER_03: So um I think he does stay in, but also I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to come back.
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: And man, what an addition it would be if he decided to come back, just adding more to this team.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: The size tech gets on everybody's radar if he comes back just amplifies.
- 7:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: So and he would absolutely be the leader on the team, he would be the guy that everyone's talking about.
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: So uh obviously, selfishly, I think every red raider wants him to come back.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: But if if he can secure a spot in the draft, I hope I I absolutely hope he goes and goes big.
- 7:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I mean, like we said earlier, there have been guys that have left a little too early.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: Uh Zaire Smith, that's a different story.
- 7:47SPEAKER_03: Uh, because he was a first-round pick.
- 7:49SPEAKER_03: I mean, he was getting a lot of hype going into that draft, and unfortunately had the whole um food allergy issue that almost killed him, unfortunately.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: Uh, it looks like he's still recovering from that.
- 8:01SPEAKER_03: But, you know, I if you're him, I would kind of want that back.
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: Jamais Ramsey as well, maybe thought he was gonna potentially be a late first-round pick, ended up going a little further back uh than than what he wanted.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: So uh we've seen that out of tech guys that go a little too early uh to the professional league.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: So uh, you know, I I'm sure I believe in TJ.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, he's gonna make the decision that best fits himself and uh for his future.
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: So uh, you know, we're gonna support him either way.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 8:31SPEAKER_02: So back to the coach Adams army that we know for sure is gonna be on that court.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: Yes, the newest edition.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: So Sardar, I think Sardar or Siddhar, something like that.
- 8:44SPEAKER_03: I don't know how to say his name yet.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: We're gonna have to get that down.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we're gonna have to get that down.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: Siddar Calhoun from Florida State.
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: So big time school uh that we're getting this transfer from.
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: Um, you'll look at his stats and you won't really be impressed right away.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: Uh, five points a game.
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: Uh the thing is he he shot 40% from three-point line, and that's the thing to look out for when you're looking at this guy.
- 9:07SPEAKER_03: Uh, Florida State had a really deep roster last season, and he came in, played about 14 to 15 minutes a game.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: Um, he's not a guy that you're gonna be, he's not gonna have this insane highlight reel, but what he does add is shooting, and we desperately need shooting to this team.
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: We needed shooting to last year's team.
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: So adding him, it's it's I think it's only gonna be a good thing, especially on the perimeter.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, the perimeter was pretty lackluster for us this past season.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah, man.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: I mean, just looking at a few of his highlights, he's got a really pretty looking jumper.
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: Like, you're looking at it, you you look at guys like I don't know, I mentioned Chris Middleton on um last week's pod, Steph Curry, obviously, those guys that just uh Carmelo Anthony, those guys that just have pretty looking jump shots that you're just like, okay, that is a good chance of looking in as soon as it's released from the hand.
- 9:57SPEAKER_03: And that's this guy.
- 9:58SPEAKER_03: He really he jumps really high on his release, too.
- 10:01SPEAKER_03: And that's good for a guard to get that shot up over taller defenders quick.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, and just I mean, man, it looks good.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: I I've I've seen only good things about this guy.
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: Uh, apparently, it was a big surprise that he was heading to Texas Tech.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: So I'll take that anytime.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: And especially from an ACC school like Florida State.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: You know, they play solid basketball over there on the coast.
- 10:21SPEAKER_02: So I'm sure I'll take any young man that's good enough to get recruited there.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, man.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: Leonard Hamilton is a hell of a coach over there, a really solid program that they're running at Florida State.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: Uh, just something on Calhoun's stats.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: His two best games last year coming one against Miami, where he put up 16 points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals, and then one against Clemson, who was ranked 20th at the time, where he put up 13 points, shooting four of five from three in just 17 minutes.
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: So, dude can be a fireball, right?
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: Coming off the bench, can get you some buckets.
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: So uh I will gladly take somebody who's shooting 40 from behind the three-point line.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: 100, because I'm I'm sure I speak for everybody when I say I was pulling my head out, hair out, yeah, with uh with that three-point shot, you know, because it was it was pretty brutal.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: I mean, it it was it was rare and it was a lot of miss on that side.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: So I hope we can bring in this sniper uh because it's definitely needed.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 11:17SPEAKER_03: So still need to add a big guy or two, uh, really lacking on that end.
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, but I believe in Coach Adams, Coach Peary, Coach Williams, all those guys.
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: They're gonna bring in some some more players, and we're gonna keep you updated uh as those players come in.
- 11:30SPEAKER_03: So I guess let's move on, man.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: Baseball coming down to the wire.
- 11:34SPEAKER_03: Uh ender of the season.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: Texas Tech not gonna be uh winning any Big 12 trophy.
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: But what we what we can say is that we have beat the two top teams in the Big 12.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: Uh we and we just beat OU.
- 11:48SPEAKER_02: We just beat the snot out of OU.
- 11:50SPEAKER_03: We just wrecked OU.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: We couldn't, we could they couldn't keep the ball in the park against us.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:57SPEAKER_02: 16 home runs against the Sooners in Norman.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that was ridiculous.
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: We dropped the first game, but ended up winning the last two and taking the series in Norman.
- 12:09SPEAKER_03: Um, our guys can our guys just continue to blast blast every ball over the park, man.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: It's it's it's nuts.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: I like how our guys find a way, you know, it's because of all the injuries, we're not the most complete team in the world, but we still grind through these series wins.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: Like, I wish they were sweeps as much as the next guy, but whenever you have the injury list that we have, um, it's tough.
- 12:32SPEAKER_02: You don't have the depth to keep pushing you through the season because you're working with a lot of young guys, too.
- 12:37SPEAKER_02: So it's but if you can go if you can ride into Norman, a fairly solid baseball program right now and blast them, uh, you can feel pretty good about the way we're moving forward, especially going to Kansas.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: So uh I hope we can get the sweep against Kansas because I would love to be able to be hosting some games in the postseason.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I think we moved up on most polls.
- 12:56SPEAKER_03: Uh, we've been looking really a D1 baseballs poll for the most part.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: I think we're up to five.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: So a lot of polls have us in that kind of four, five, six, seven range, which is you know, great for hosting a super regional um and a regional, you know, just hosting, just in general.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: So um, you know, I we need to take this series against Kansas.
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: Uh, we can't drop another one like we dropped against K-State and Baylor.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, so you know, let's just get it done.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: Also, we're big time horn frog fans this weekend.
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: That I don't want to say that out loud.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: We are, we are.
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: I I'm not afraid to say it when it's going, it's either uh you know, everybody over Texas at this point.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: I'll I'll I'll I'll salute to that, sir.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: So, man, uh, you know, exciting baseball coming down to the wire, going to into Oklahoma City for the Big 12 tournament, and then hopefully we'll be you know hosting some stuff for sure.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: I think this is gonna be the last time it's gonna be in uh in Bricktown in uh OKC, the Big 12 tournament, because I believe it's moving to Arlington.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: I believe it's moving to Arlington.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: Of course, everything's moving to Arlington because I think it's moving to the Ranger Ballpark, the new one, the new shiny toy.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: So I get you, and we've talked about this before about where you know Dallas and that the DFW area is probably where most Big 12 championships should be at.
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: But you know, you can't help but feel left out for you know the West Virginias and the Iowa states and the Kansas and Kansas states of the conference, just you know, nowhere really close.
- 14:32SPEAKER_03: I like I do like the fact that the basketball tournament is in Kansas City.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: Do you like do you like that it's in a city that no Big 12 team plays in?
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: That like that no Big 12 team plays in that state.
- 14:44SPEAKER_03: Well, well, I mean, okay, so Kansas City, Missouri, technically, but it's right on the friggin' line.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: So I know, but uh obviously this was settled whenever it was Missouri Tigers were in the uh Big 12 as well.
- 14:56SPEAKER_03: Well, yeah, that would be it would be great if we just had all the teams that left us that are now in separate conferences, but uh explicit them.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I just think it helps uh the other teams that aren't Texas, uh you know, to have something outside of the state for sure.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: I mean, and that Bricktown, Bricktown and OKC is a fun little spot, but I can see them wanting to move it to the Ranger Ballpark, and it's it's a more central location for most of the teams, and and not to be rude to the more Midwestern teams in our conference.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: Baseball runs through the state of Texas, it does, and and Oklahoma in this conference.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: It's any all the ranked teams are from Texas right now.
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: Um, and they're all in top 10 or top 15 right now.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: So it's it's uh you can understand it, and it's gonna go a lot more Texas-centric fans to the ballpark.
- 15:45SPEAKER_03: I'm not mad that these are getting closer to home.
- 15:49SPEAKER_03: Don't get me wrong.
- 15:50SPEAKER_03: You know, I want to go and be able to go watch you know, whatever team that I can.
- 15:55SPEAKER_03: Hopefully, you know, Texas Tech makes some noise and wins a Big 12 tourney and everything like that.
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: So, um, but you know, I just think it's cool to to include the other Big 12 teams and make it a little more central for them.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 16:08SPEAKER_03: So, all right, baseball coming to the wire.
- 16:11SPEAKER_03: Let's kick butt, you know, finish it off.
- 16:12SPEAKER_03: Red Raiders, let's let's beat up some Jayhawks on the road to Omaha begins.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: Man, what a fun time of the year that is.
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: Heck yeah.
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: So you brought this up to me, our next topic of conversation.
- 16:26SPEAKER_03: You brought this up to me specifically.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: Uh, we talked about it a little bit on the Guns Up Nation Slack.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, and it was kind of going around.
- 16:34SPEAKER_03: A um an article was going around uh basically saying uh it was by who was it?
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: Feet Peter Futok of Yahoo Sports came out with an article basically saying the Pac-12 needs to look into expansion, um, because they're totally not the worst Power Five conference right now.
- 16:58SPEAKER_03: Um but uh man, uh it pissed you off.
- 17:02SPEAKER_03: It uh it I just kind of laughed at it, and I'm just like, really?
- 17:05SPEAKER_03: Like, come on, Pac-12, what are you doing?
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: But kind of go into what your thoughts were on this article.
- 17:11SPEAKER_02: It made me upset in a really funny way because this article feels like it was written in like 2010, whenever the Big 12 was falling apart, people thought that everyone was moving to the pack, and including tech.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: Um, but this is 2021, so we gotta talk about 2021, and I'm pretty sure this article is just made for clicks, but it's far and away the worst Power Five conference now.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: I know these things are a little cynical, but could you name a single major sport, big three, that the Pac-12 is better than any of the other Power Five sports in?
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: Any of them.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: No, I mean, obviously, they made some noise in the NCA tournament this past season with basketball, but I mean, overall, they're just not a strong conference right now, and and they just don't have uh a ton of like uh they're just not getting a lot of love, just in general, they're kind of irrelevant almost in a lot of discussion when it comes to like you know, college football playoff, they're never mentioned anymore.
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: Uh NCA tournament, I think they had the least amount of teams of all the power five programs, and they did make noise, so credit a little bit to the packet 12.
- 18:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, and then baseball, they're not really talked about all that much either.
- 18:24SPEAKER_03: So um, yeah, man.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, uh kind of highlight what this guy was going.
- 18:29SPEAKER_03: He's just he's just kind of naming off teams that are potential candidates for the pac-12, apparently, right?
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: So I'll run through the list real quick.
- 18:39SPEAKER_02: So number 10, he had BYU.
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: Uh, then he got Spoise State, okay.
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: Fresno State, Nevada.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: Then okay, number six.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: Here we are.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: We're at the homeschool, we're at Texas Tech University, and he has us at number six.
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: Um I I I just I think that's really funny because then at number five, he has us at UNLV.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: So that kind of um shows that this guy just kind of was just throwing some stuff at a wall.
- 19:11SPEAKER_02: If you think that UNLV would be more of an added value to a conference than Texas Tech, and then it goes to Oklahoma State, and then over Oklahoma State is San Diego State, and then Kansas, and then Oklahoma.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: So I think this guy really does live in 2012 because is his argument keeps coming back to Texas, how everyone's tired of UT.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: And I think what he doesn't realize is that this conference is the third wealthiest in the country, it's in a very solid spot in all three of the sports.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: Oklahoma has made the playoff like every nearly every year, and we we do great in the NCA tournament, we do great in basketball, and we do we we put some teams in Omaha.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: So I don't know where this guy is thinking that we're all just tired of the position that we're in with how successful everyone's being, you know.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, did Baylor just not win the national championship in basketball?
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: I don't want to talk about that.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: Do we do we not have three teams ranked in the top seven in baseball right now?
- 20:13SPEAKER_03: Do we not have uh Oklahoma?
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, football needs a little work, and really unfortunately, the public perception of the Big 12 in football is not so good right now because UT is not so good right now, and that's an unfortunate thing that comes with having a team like UT in your conference.
- 20:31SPEAKER_03: Um but yeah, I think that's just my opinion.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: Okay, you you say that, but it is that our image in football is so much better than it was five years ago.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: Like the Big 12 is not the pooping stock anymore.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: Everyone laughs at the pack now.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: Um, and if you talk to any real college football fan, the average they're gonna put the Big 12 at is number three, and I think that's super fair.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: And I think you can arguably go up or down.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, not really down, I think you can arguably go up, but um, because I do think that it's clear cut that the Big 12 is better than the ACC and it's better than the the Pac 12, um, top to bottom, and that's that's usually how you want to look at it.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: So it's just I I couldn't believe it.
- 21:13SPEAKER_02: And I think this is just an off-season funsie thing, but what does the pack offer to Texas Tech?
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: What does the pack offer to OSU?
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: What does the pack offer to Kansas?
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: What does the pack offer to freaking OU that is any better than the Big 12?
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Could you imagine getting up on Saturday and be like, oh boy, I can't wait for this Oregon State game.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: Can't can't wait.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: Can't wait for at Oregon State.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: Great mascot, but phenomenal mascot.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: And this isn't like a pooping on the Pac-12.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: It's I'm I'm saying they're culturally irrelevant to us.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: It it's we can't get in the car and drive to an Oregon State game.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: You know, yeah, you're in the same conference as USC and Oregon, but I mean, if if that's if you're after powerhouse.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Of the old, we still have U T and OU.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: So it's it's like some of these teams he named off in this top 10 made sense for the Pac-12.
- 22:08SPEAKER_03: You know, he added like San Diego State would be a great addition to the Pac-12.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: They've been more than solid in their sports, especially basketball.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: They've had some solid football teams over the years.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: You know, UNLV, it's geographically makes sense.
- 22:21SPEAKER_03: BYU, the same deal, you know, but yeah, Boise, same thing.
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: But when he started adding, you know, the Big 12 teams, and it's just like, man, uh, there's no chance in hell OU is gonna go to the Pac-12.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: There's just literally no reason to do it.
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you we have zero history, any of these schools.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: We have no history with that side with that side of the country.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: And to think that student athletes are just gonna hop in, hop, and all, hop on the jet and fly to freaking the Bay Area on any given weekend.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: Like, come on, that's jumping two time zones, too.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: It only benefits the pack to do something like that.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: It benefits us none.
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: And because I mean there's also that idea going around that the Big 12 and the pack should partner up that benefits only the pack.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: We get nothing out of it.
- 23:13SPEAKER_02: So it's the packs in a tough spot because they're on the West Coast, and it's just generally that side of the country just doesn't care about college sports as much as uh everybody else.
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: And and I know your take on this, and I know that the Big 12, I think the Big 12 needs to look into at least expanding.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: I know you I know the round robin is fun, I know playing everybody in your conference every year is a good thing, but you know, having the least amount of teams of all the Power Five conferences also does hurt our reputation.
- 23:44SPEAKER_03: And I think if we could add a couple more to the Big 12 and actually make it the Big 12, or potentially even a few more, it would be only good for the conference, and I think it would give us a little more street cred.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: Why do you think uh only having 10 teams hurts us?
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: Like, what's why what what's your perception on that?
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: Well, ever well, especially when you're talking about the last, you know, kind of conference alignment sort of deal.
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: Big Ten now has 14 teams, SEC now has 14 teams, you know, and we went down.
- 24:16SPEAKER_03: So I think we either need to get back to where we were at 12 or kind of you know go up there and reach where the Big Ten and the SEC are.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: Because, like you said, the SEC and the Big Ten are clearly above the Big 12 right now in terms of financial revenue and financial gain.
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: But what we could do is add a couple solid teams to only boost our because right now we're number three with 10 teams.
- 24:40SPEAKER_03: Imagine what we could be with 12 teams, you know what I'm saying?
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: Right, but the thing was, whenever we looked at expansion before, the reason why we all make so much money off of being in the Big 12 is because there's less teams to spread that money around.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: So if you add teams, they have to be a net positive on putting more money into that pool.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: So wherever you divide it up by 12, you're getting more money per school overall.
- 25:07SPEAKER_03: Well, and there are those teams that will add to that.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: I I it's it's it struggles to in my mind to think of any teams that are easily obtainable.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: The only one that immediately comes to mind that I think would actually add revenue and be an entertaining option in the Big 12 would be BYU.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: It's scrambling state, but it's BYU.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: And because I feel like it kind of comes back around, is other than that, people are gonna say words like Houston.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: I just don't think the Big 12 does any favors from that.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: Only Houston benefits from that relationship.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: Um, maybe UCF, that one makes a little maybe maybe is a little more fun to talk about than than Houston, and then people start to dig deep, like Memphis or Cincinnati, and that's digging deep.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: So it's the only one that immediately stands out is BYU.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: And after that, the pickings get kind of difficult to discern because I feel like if it made sense before, we would have done it.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: We would have added those two teams during that fiasco.
- 26:08SPEAKER_03: Well, what we should have added during that fiasco was the teams that were we were possibly talking to, which was like Florida State, Clemson, all those type of teams.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: We should have jumped on that.
- 26:19SPEAKER_03: I know that no, that's what we should have done.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: But I I mean, I think adding a BYU would be good in terms of like what you're saying about Cincinnati and uh Memphis.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: You look at what has the most potential to grow, and I think you know, talking about Ohio being a state that only has one real power five team, Cincinnati has the location at least to grow and to become bigger within the Big 12.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: Same with Memphis and Tennessee.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: I was being unfair to Cincinnati.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: You're right.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: I I think I think Cincinnati's a better option than Memphis for sure, but I don't think Memphis is a great option.
- 27:01SPEAKER_02: I just I don't think they bring a lot to the table.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: If you've if you've been to Memphis, I've been to I've I'm I'm not gonna just judge this off of my one trip to Memphis.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: I had a great time there.
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: I went to the Memphis Yukon game, but they play in the Liberty Liberty Bowl.
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: That that thing is ancient, it's just a concrete bowl.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: And if you want to slap a Big 12, uh a prestigious logo onto that stadium, I don't know how good that looks.
- 27:25SPEAKER_02: And they play in a they play in the FedEx arena, they don't have their own basketball arena.
- 27:29SPEAKER_02: And I just I don't know if the support is there enough to warrant a power five bid.
- 27:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I think you bring up a good point of it's it's more than just what the program has put out, yeah, you know, in terms of like Memphis has been really solid in a lot of things lately in terms of football, basketball, you know, all that type of same with Cincinnati.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: Cincinnati almost made the playoff this year, so you know they they're putting together good teams, and I think a lot of people look at that and they say, hey, you know, if they're competing and almost getting in the college football playoff, why wouldn't you want them?
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: Well, that's not every year with Cincinnati.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: That's not every year with Memphis.
- 28:09SPEAKER_03: You know, they they're they've been good lately, and that's been awesome for them.
- 28:13SPEAKER_03: Um, but you know, there's there's everything you talked about, like with Memphis, with stadiums, with uh fan support, with all that uh financial revenue, everything like that that they bring into the university that will add to the conference.
- 28:28SPEAKER_03: And that's the deeper question when talking about teams possibly coming into the Big 12.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: It has to match the competition.
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: They would be clearly this this little team that's just there.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: Like it'd be like a it'd be like adding like a rutgers, you know, it'd be like adding, I'm trying like a wake for us.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: It's kind of like that, you know, just these teams.
- 28:47SPEAKER_02: Wake is great.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: Okay, wake is great.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: It would just it's just adding these filler teams that I don't know if if it does the brand any favors.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: So it's that that's that's my point.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: And I think the only one that that's a clear positive is BYU.
- 29:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, BYU makes the most sense.
- 29:06SPEAKER_03: It's it's kind of it's kind of ridiculous that there's still an independent, and you know, I understand the religious aspect of it.
- 29:13SPEAKER_03: Sometimes, you know, it doesn't uh things don't add up right with in terms of scheduling games and all that kind of stuff, they can't play on Sundays, all that kind of stuff, but um I just think I just think it would be good for the Big 12 to at least think about expanding.
- 29:29SPEAKER_03: I love the fact that we play every team every year.
- 29:33SPEAKER_03: I think it's ridiculous that team that teams in the SEC don't play each other within like 10 years or whatever it is.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: If there was some stupid stat where like Georgia played Texas closer to when AM played Georgia and they're in the same conference, and it's like what that shouldn't happen.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: I think that's a problem with conferences being too big, and plus I think divisions are antiquated.
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: I I don't see the point in having divisions in college sports anymore.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: I I because it's travel budgets aren't the problem they used to be.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: It you didn't you that these kids aren't hopping on buses anymore like they used to, they're they're getting on private jets, so it's uh it's not the same logistical issue as it was.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: I think they should get away, uh get away from divisions in general and just have the two best teams play each other in the conference championship like Big 12 does.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: Um, because I think that does away does away with a lot of BS, you know, this like easier paths or um they don't have to play so and so.
- 30:30SPEAKER_03: So I it's just I I think the two best teams we should be playing in general, but hell we play we play a team from West Virginia in our conference, you know, Morgantown to Lubbock, that's a hell of a flight, man.
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: In an ideal world, I think everybody should be at 10.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: I think the round robin is actually the way to do it.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: But if if we're talking like if maybe if this is something that the Big 12 has to do to be more competitive and you do have to add teams, I think a good idea would be to go just to be a Pac-12, to go after the pack instead.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: Go out, go, go to the Arizona schools and say, come to a conference that cares about football way more, cares about all these sports way more.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: You'll get more money out of it, you'll get more, you'll you'll you'll be in a culture that matches yours a little better.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: Um, I think that's the better pitch.
- 31:19SPEAKER_02: I think you go to to the pack schools like that and not miss out on the train like you did with Florida State and Clemson, because obviously they're not gonna leave their situation at this point anymore because they rule the roost.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: You know, even even if it's a bad football conference, and after after them, it's they Clemson has the easiest path to the playoff you could have ever imagined.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: No doubt.
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: And they're gonna be there every year.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: So I think that's your pitch.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: I think you go after a school like BYU or some G5 that actually makes sense, that actually adds value, or you go and try to poach like a Pac-12 team or a couple of two, three, four.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: I agree with you.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: I I I'm upset with the situation as a whole, just the fact that the SEC and the Big Ten just you know added and to 14 teams that half of them don't play each other every year.
- 32:06SPEAKER_03: It it's ridiculous to me as well.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: That's why I gotta ditch the divisions.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it but it is what it is, you know.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: Instead of maybe for the SEC, since you have 14 teams, maybe don't play four out of conference games a year.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: Maybe how about you play another, you get rid of one of those out of conference and play an in-conference opponent.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: That would be smart, but you know, they gotta get those, you gotta get those extra wins, you know.
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: You gotta get everybody to a bowl.
- 32:30SPEAKER_03: You gotta get everybody to a bowl.
- 32:32SPEAKER_02: That's insane.
- 32:32SPEAKER_02: So you're you're so it's four out-of-conference games.
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: Let's just say three of those are gimmicks, you're already halfway there to bowl games.
- 32:40SPEAKER_02: So e and I'm not I'm not sure if all of them are scheduling a P5 in that fourth slot.
- 32:45SPEAKER_02: Well, maybe they're doing another G five uh G5.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: That's four, and then all they have to do is beat two opponents to get to a bowl.
- 32:51SPEAKER_02: That's incredible.
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: It's a it's there's but they're incentivized to do it, they're babied, you know.
- 32:55SPEAKER_02: They they they have the silver spoon in their mouth, so they're not gonna mess with it.
- 32:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, I mean, and I wouldn't either, especially if you have the recognition, the love from the media, from everybody.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: You know, just keep on doing what you're gonna do.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: Get four easy wins a year, and then you just have to beat like a Kentucky and a South Carolina every year, and then you're bowl eligible.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: Boom.
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: But you know, so I I think that's a deeper issue when you're talking about kind of the overall perceptions of conferences.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, the big the Big 12 gets a little more hate than what they probably should.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: Um, in terms of football, basketball and baseball, we get exactly what we're supposed to get.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, football, it's a little tough.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: I do think that's turning around because a crap load of Big 12 teams and uh uh ESBN's strength of conference are in the top 25.
- 33:41SPEAKER_02: They have a lot of respect for the Big 12 this season.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: I really do think the Big 12 respect is turning around with the people that know what's what, because if you make a a Big 12 defense joke anymore, you live in 2014.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: You know, it's it's that's not what it is anymore.
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: It's like, hey, guess what?
- 33:59SPEAKER_03: Guess what, guess what?
- 34:00SPEAKER_03: Football has turned into an offensive, just firepower sport.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: And the Big 12 is on the cutting edge of it, so it's it's a lot harder to keep up with the defense than it is to make a new crazy offense.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: So, but that's the obviously a different discussion.
- 34:14SPEAKER_02: I I do think that the Big 12 is getting more respect in football, and like you said earlier, a lot of it is kind of tied to UT.
- 34:20SPEAKER_02: That UT hasn't has been embarrassing and and whenever not embarrassing, like record-wise in general, but like to their the way they present their brand, it's embarrassing.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: They you know they present themselves as a blue blood of college football, and listening like Michigan, they're like and they're like Michigan C, but they're exactly like a little better.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, at least in the last 10 years, they're exactly like Michigan.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: It's like, hey, you know, we're this blue blood, we've been you know great in football, we've won championships or whatever, and it's like guys, you're just not living up to it.
- 34:52SPEAKER_03: So yeah, you know, it's it's uh I don't know.
- 34:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, we can I I I love that, but at the same time, it's it's gotten worse to where before it was this big lob of powerhouses that were buying for that.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: Now it's just like a handful that are buying for that national championship.
- 35:09SPEAKER_03: As Texas Tech fans, we love it, but as the public perception goes, not that only brings us down, and that's unfortunate.
- 35:17SPEAKER_03: But that's what comes with having UT in your conference, you know.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: Yes, and uh, I think something to kind of appreciate if um Texas Tech success is a little bit tied to UT success as well, or whenever Texas Tech is at least rock solid, UT is also good, so it's it's it's kind of that recruitment pool that brings everyone back into Texas.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: You know, the kid the kids that are spurned by Texas, they look at a Texas tech a little harder, however, UT is really good.
- 35:47SPEAKER_03: That's true.
- 35:48SPEAKER_03: That is true.
- 35:49SPEAKER_03: I I I hate I hate that, but that is true.
- 35:53SPEAKER_02: Um I think of some of our best years this century.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: You know, UT was at the top of its game, and we were at the top of our game.
- 35:59SPEAKER_02: So it's just I'm not saying that it's necessarily ultra connected, I'm just saying there is a bit of a connection in the sense that the recruits are kind of staying in that pool, but I think AM kind of messed with us a bit with me going to the SEC because I think those doors open up a lot more to the SEC.
- 36:15SPEAKER_03: A little bit, it messes up a lot a bit.
- 36:17SPEAKER_03: A M continues to be the worst thing ever.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I hate them.
- 36:23SPEAKER_03: I really do.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: They're just the worst.
- 36:25SPEAKER_03: Like I had some I had some family friends in town this weekend for graduation, and uh they're diehard aggies, and it's hard to hold back sometimes when you're when you just want to let loose and just say how much your school has just is just the worst.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: I hate AM so much.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: The brand the problem is like you know, you with uh with those family members, it's like me, you know.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: I have some great friends that went to AM, but it's just like oh my god, if if if I hate y'all more than UT, there's a problem.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's a that's a real problem.
- 36:59SPEAKER_03: U T just took our just took our basketball coach, and I can still say I hate AM more.
- 37:04SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: That's their problem.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: It's just they're the the fan the fan the the fan attitude is just like this jaded arrogance.
- 37:12SPEAKER_02: You know, just like they're so unhappy with how not good they are, but they think they're so good, you know.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: But yeah, uh that's obviously I'm sure y'all hear this all the time from talking to pod.
- 37:23SPEAKER_03: But hey man, but this is always fun to talk about CFP expansion, all that kind of stuff, all this fun stuff.
- 37:29SPEAKER_03: It's always in the news, people always talking about it.
- 37:32SPEAKER_03: And we may get into playoff expansion here in another episode, but not today.
- 37:37SPEAKER_03: But um, yeah, that no, that was fun.
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: That was fun just shooting the shit about it.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: That was fun.
- 37:41SPEAKER_02: That kind of came out of nowhere.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: I didn't think we were gonna be talking about Big 12 expansion.
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: Well, hey man, we're there.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: We made it.
- 37:47SPEAKER_03: It's talking tech pod.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: It's talking tech pod where the unexpected becomes reality.
- 37:54SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 37:55SPEAKER_02: All right, man, let's wrap this up.
- 37:57SPEAKER_02: Let's do it.
- 37:58SPEAKER_02: Song of the week, Tristan.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: Go ahead.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: Well, first, I gotta give an honorable mention shout-out.
- 38:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, what you got?
- 38:04SPEAKER_02: Here on May 18th, it is George Strait's birthday, the King of Country music.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: So I just had to give that a shout-out.
- 38:11SPEAKER_02: But and so, in relation to that, I'm gonna do a a sort of in spirit to George Strait's song.
- 38:17SPEAKER_02: It's not George Strait because I don't know what George Strait song to pick.
- 38:21SPEAKER_02: I didn't I don't want to be I don't want to be that guy that picks George Strait, but I'm gonna be uh I'm gonna do Zach Namont.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: He is a Texas songwriter.
- 38:29SPEAKER_02: I saw him for the first time, heard of him for the first time whenever I went to um a Red Shah hand concert.
- 38:34SPEAKER_02: He opened up for him.
- 38:35SPEAKER_02: Loved his voice.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: The guy's got such a soulful, longing voice that you love to hear in a singer-songwriter.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: Um, and I'm gonna go with a song Troubadour.
- 38:44SPEAKER_02: So and I that guy, the the vocals in that song, he belts it out.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: It's not George Traits, um, Troubadour, but you it's just it's such a well-written song, and you just feel the misery in that song and the longing to want to succeed in what he does.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: And it's a great song.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: Get a listen, Zach Namont, Troubadour.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: There's no one else to play but myself.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: Here's my dollar, you can keep the loose.
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: You failed to mention the age that George Strait is turning today.
- 39:20SPEAKER_03: It is George Trade's 69th birthday.
- 39:24SPEAKER_03: Very nice.
- 39:25SPEAKER_03: Nice, nice, always a nice birthday for the king.
- 39:29SPEAKER_03: Nice birthday for the king.
- 39:31SPEAKER_03: George Trade is the best.
- 39:32SPEAKER_03: He really is.
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: Like, I I you know, there's some pushback from uh is he the real king of country?
- 39:38SPEAKER_03: This is new.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: This is I know this is new.
- 39:41SPEAKER_03: Everybody was like on board with it.
- 39:43SPEAKER_02: I really feel like it's the I'm not like other girls of country music.
- 39:47SPEAKER_02: It's that's how it feels.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: Like, whatever it's you know, you have a legend, a living legend, um, and that everyone respects as the king of country.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: And some people just have to be like, uh I don't think so, you know.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: And I mean, I the ones they throw out to battle it are respectable, like AJ, Alan Jackson.
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: Um just put out a new great album, by the way.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: His really, I gotta give it a listen.
- 40:10SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's still putting out great music.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: Um, but uh it's but he he's obviously he's awesome, but he just doesn't have the library that George does, guys.
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: Come on, and it's like he has some absolute bangers and he rocks, but you George Strait has like 60 songs you love.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no doubt.
- 40:27SPEAKER_03: You can play 60 George Strait songs, and you can sing you can sing along word for word to all of them.
- 40:32SPEAKER_02: And it's more and it's more of like a dozen for AJ.
- 40:35SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's awesome, but he's not he's not the king guys, and they're friends.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: You don't need to put them against each other like this.
- 40:40SPEAKER_02: No doubt.
- 40:41SPEAKER_03: Just accept it, accept it, listeners.
- 40:51SPEAKER_03: All we do.
- 40:52SPEAKER_03: Where's Alan Jackson from?
- 40:54SPEAKER_02: I think he's a he's a Georgia kid.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: Oh, lame.
- 40:57SPEAKER_03: Get out of here.
- 40:58SPEAKER_03: Okay, Texas, number one, Texas number one, number one.
- 41:04SPEAKER_03: All right, my song of the week is not a country song.
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: I know we just went on about country music for a while.
- 41:11SPEAKER_03: We uh just had a party this weekend.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: Um, my girlfriend, like I mentioned, graduated from law school, so of course we had a good time.
- 41:18SPEAKER_03: Family came in, my family came in, we all partied.
- 41:22SPEAKER_03: Uh, and then we ended up uh Saturday night at Fred's.
- 41:26SPEAKER_03: And if you've ever been to Baton Rouge, you've probably been to Fred's.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: It is a uh hell of a time, it's a crazy college bar with a lot of just tomfoolery going on, and um this song popped on, and it just it's just a banger, and I just I just really embraced it and I loved it.
- 41:44SPEAKER_03: My song of the week is Jukebox Hero.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, yes, it is.
- 41:50SPEAKER_03: I love this song, I forgot about it for and it just popped on, and of course, we're all drinking, we're all having a good time, and then Jukebox Hero comes on, and then uh you see all the bar just going and singing along to it.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: It was fantastic.
- 42:13SPEAKER_02: I did not see this coming.
- 42:14SPEAKER_02: A hairband, a hairband.
- 42:17SPEAKER_03: I like all I don't discriminate with my music.
- 42:19SPEAKER_03: I'm really the only thing I'm not big into is is metal, you know, super just like Screamo type of stuff.
- 42:27SPEAKER_03: But this song rocks.
- 42:29SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm I'm not just pooping on the hairbands.
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: I just I can't believe you're giving a hairband for your song of the week.
- 42:36SPEAKER_02: It's not even like Bon Jovi or somebody first, you know.
- 42:39SPEAKER_03: Hey man, jukebox hero slaps, and you know it.
- 42:42SPEAKER_02: Uh, it's a great if you're drunk, obviously you're gonna have a blast.
- 42:45SPEAKER_02: But I mean, I don't know if you're gonna be.
- 42:47SPEAKER_03: It's great, you don't have to be drunk to enjoy it.
- 42:49SPEAKER_03: You could just enjoy it.
- 42:50SPEAKER_03: You're just jamming out in the car.
- 42:52SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, I'm touching some nerves.
- 42:54SPEAKER_03: I didn't listen to it.
- 42:55SPEAKER_03: Step on your toes.
- 42:56SPEAKER_03: Go listen to Jukebox Hero and tell me you're not just jamming out to it.
