- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, friend.
- 0:01[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to Bible Track to Echoes.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: I want to thank you so very much for taking it your time in joining me right here today.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: We are going to dive back into an account message that I had the opportunity to preach just a few weeks ago at a camp here in Butler, Pennsylvania.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: I have the privilege of being a part of
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: Many youth camps over the summer and really all year and this year I'll be in about 9 or 10 different weeks of camp and to guide me the glory I'll be able to see 1,500 would be 2,000 young people over those 10 weeks and see many phenomenal decisions made I mean already this year we've seen a multitude of salvations
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen some broken lives mended.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: I can't go into details just because of some privacy and things, but think of this one particular situation, young person dealing with a tragic loss and God is doing a great work in my wife and I counseling and seeing God just do a work and what a blessing it is.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: I want to thank you for your prayers.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: You have a part in what we do.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: You say, oh, all I do is pray, friend, that is the needful work.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: Without your prayers, I'm not sure that anything would go on and nothing will for God's glory would really happen.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: So thank you for your prayers.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: I would ask you to continue praying.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'd ask you to continue listening this week.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: We asked a
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: What's it going to take?
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: What's it going to take for God to move you to get your attention?
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: And today we'll listen to a snippet of a message I preached a few weeks ago, or in 1 Samuel 17 we're looking at, David and Goliath, that age-old story, you may recall it from the Flamelgrafts in Sunday School, remember?
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: Remember those things that they would stick up on the, that kind of material yet that guy who would play Moses and Noah and Elijah and, you know, all the major patriarchs.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: There is the red sea crossing.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: There is, of course, Joan and the whale.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: There is a David and Goliath.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's what we're talking about today.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you think of David and Goliath as just this fairy tale.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: The Bible tells us it actually happened.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: We're actually going to look at this account, that's where we are.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: We're looking at David, and as he comes to the people of Israel, this army, a raid on one side of the valley, the Philistines on the other, and the champion of the Philistines named Goliath, he comes out and challenges mourning in the evening for 40 days.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: That means a total of 80 times, Goliath challenges God's people, and they do nothing.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: And that's where the thought comes from today.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing too complicated.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: The question is just what's it going to take.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I wonder if you've yielded to what God wants you to do.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: Have you been willing to not just bend, but have you been willing to give him all?
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'd ask if you would.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: to tune in all this week, but specifically today I'll be, I'll be frank with you, I'm a little stern, I'm a little stirred up.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a little bit spirited, because I have a message to convey.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: I have a thought that God has put on my heart that I'm going to, yes, through this recording of a message from a few weeks ago, I'm going to do my best to communicate.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd ask you, if you would, to listen, very intently, to what God has
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: for you.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe just maybe answer the question, what's it gonna take?
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: Listen now.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: And we know the story.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have to tell it to you.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: A little shepherd boy who'd seen God work before stood up and did something.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: This message might not be for everybody tonight.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: but it might be for you, because my question is, what's it gonna take?
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: How many times you can have to hear the same thing?
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: How many times is the world gonna have to challenge you?
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: You're gonna say, well, my parents aren't doing nothing spiritual, my peers aren't doing something spiritual.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm having problems with my pastor at home.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: Those all sound like problems David had, didn't he?
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: His leader, doing nothing.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: His peers, doing nothing.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: His family, doing nothing.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't see that affecting David too much, do ya.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: My question is, what's it gonna take to get you to move?
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's really easy to stay in the crowd.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: See, I'm not necessarily preaching this at just the young man that haven't moved the entire week.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you've only heard some phenomenal preaching.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to guilt you into it because the Holy Spirit can do a far better job of talking to you right now.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: And you know exactly the decision that you're ignoring God's talking to you about.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: What's it going to take?
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: Because if we count it up, some of you that have been here 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 summers, maybe some of you dating all the way back to Junior Camp, we might just get to close to 80 messages you've heard here at Comma Ground.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: But I know for a fact, you hear more than that at your home church, you can be a Sunday morning Christian and get there in a year and a half.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: What's it gonna take?
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: See, the problem is, the question is not, what's it gonna take to get your attention?
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: God already has your attention.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: You already know what he wants you to do.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: The Philistine had everybody's attention.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody knew what the right answer was, but no one was willing to be the first one to say it.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: No one was willing to say, you know, I think we shouldn't let this go on much longer.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I don't need to rattle off statistic after statistic about the challenges that the world, the gauntlet, that the world is throwing down at your feet.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: You're savvy enough.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: You're intelligent enough.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: So my question is what's gonna take?
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: How many more do you have to hear before you say, all right, God?
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: See what we do is, I'm not opposed whatsoever to the song, I surrender all.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: But there is a dictionary and a practical difference between surrender and yieldedness.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: See, when you surrender, you do so under-dress, looking for the next opportunity to pick up arms and fight again.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: Why does a World War II happen?
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: Wasn't one enough?
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: No, because Germany got their feelings hurt and they had surrendered.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: They were forced to capitulate.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: They were forced to give up.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: And so they decided if we get another chance, let's go for round two.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what we do at an altar?
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: We surrender.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: We say, all right, God.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'll write it down on the decision card because that amount of capitulation will get my pastor off my back.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: See, I love the fact that we take time in the invitation to fill a decision cards and be and peel the onion and take the time.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: I tell you, you might fool your counselor, but she ain't fooling God.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: We try to put the strainer such we try to we try to sift through and do our absolute dead level best as humans to figure out if you mean it or not, but God, look it on the inward.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: God, look it on the heart we can only look on the outside and there's a lot of Christians that surrender at team camp, but take up arms on Monday for the other 51 weeks out of the year.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: And you notice, the Philistine who said, if you beat me, we will be your servants, what happened?
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: The Philistines all didn't throw down their arms and say, we'll do whatever you want.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: You beat the world once.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know what they do?
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: They just look for the next opportunity.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: The devil has no problem playing the long game.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: But you can't even play the long game because you ain't got no short game either.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: You're just good enough to put on a dog and pony show for five days at camp, fill out the precise number of decision cards that you need to get with a shmiddly off my back, and then it's back at it guns blazing on Monday.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: What's it gonna take?
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: Because when you yield, you give everything, and you don't look back.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: Does that mean there won't be a fighting future?
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, no, no, no battle lines are drawn.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: They haven't changed.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: This has been a fight for millennia through eternity.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: Since a demon said, I will, I will, I will, I will.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: Man, we're glad, God doesn't count how to that sort of thing.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't lay down.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't say, oh, you want my throne?
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, oh, I'm sorry, Lucifer, you can know.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: We expect God to stand up and say, no, no.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: For truth and righteousness, sake.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: No, you know that's impossible.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: You can't do that.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_01]: But then we look at, we gotta look down the road to see who else is moving before we come to the altar.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: See, we talk about how I've heard it said, and I completely understand that we want to make it practically as easy as possible.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: We don't want friction.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: I remember a dear old man at God saying, during the invitation, all the Holy Spirit, but the saying it can be a fickle, a fickle deity.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes all it takes is the zip zip zip of a Bible case to grieve him a little bit.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: because we're in such a hurry, because that three seconds you saved was so important, you had to do it in the silence of God speaking to somebody else, right?
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: So I understand that, and I understand we talk about you folks on the outside of the road, it might help someone inside of you if they didn't have to body slam you to get to the altar.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe if you'd come, maybe the guy inside of you, he might come too.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: I understand that that's a very practical consideration that I'll grant you.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: But I tell you, if you're on the inside of the road, I don't care.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: If God's speaking to you, you come down here.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care if you have to crawl the guy in front of you.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: Because what's it gonna take?
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: At what point do we get serious?
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: Friend, I wonder when was the last time you got serious with God?
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: I realized I was being very blunt, I was speaking directly, but sometimes I think that's what we need, that's what it takes to get our attention.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: When was last time God really had all of your attention?
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: When was last time you yielded to him?
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe just right now, you say, where is the altar at?
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: I can go forward.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, why don't you make an altar of your heart?
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe right now, in the stillness of these a few moments, you'd like to talk to God, because he has been wanting to talk to you, he's been knocking on the door of your heart.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: But you've been ignoring.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: You've been capitulating to the world, you've been coutowing to the world of flesh and the devil.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: I pray that that's not the case, but if it is, would you consider today listening to what God has for you?
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to list off a litany of sins, nor am I going to list off a incredibly in-depth list of all the things you could be doing for God.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: The Holy Spirit is far more than capable of getting your attention and telling you what you should be doing.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: But will you?
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: I pray you consider right now into Bay, letting him take control and truly getting serious.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: Have a great day for his glory.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: We'll plan to talk to you soon.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: God bless.
