This Pride Month, we honor Lance Sotelo — a brilliant runner from Queens University and beloved LGBTQ+ trailblazer — who tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run in Charlotte. His family turned grief into purpose, launching “Lance’s Legacy” to fund scholarships for young runners, believing the sport gave Lance the courage to embrace his identity. A rainbow memorial stands where he died, and his birthday will mark the first 5K run in his hometown, raising funds to help others chase their dreams just as he did.
