- 2:15since the primary. Be interesting to get his take on the results and the
- 2:20race is headed into the fall election of with all these rumors continue about Joe
- 2:23Manchin, We're going to get to mister Thomas's take on that. One of
- 2:25those who prevailed in his race last week for Circuit judge is rich Lindsey,
- 2:30and he's going to join us a little bit later on. Plusure calls and
- 2:32Texter, welcome to now this evening in Nitro a whole lot of motorcycles.
- 2:37It's going to be rumbling in the town as part of the annual Run for
- 2:39the Wall. Todd Taylor is a native of Chesapeake and he is the West
- 2:44Virginia coordinator we're Run for the Wall, and he joins us now from somewhere
- 2:46Todd, good morning, How are you. Good morning, Dave, How
- 2:50are you doing today? I'm fine. Where are you right now, sir?
- 2:53Right now we are on one of our stops at Robley Rex Veterans Center.
- 2:57It's kind of like a veterans hospital here in Louisville in Little House.
- 3:00The weather looking down there, it was a little rainy this morning, but
- 3:04the skies have opened a cleared out a little bit and is about partly cloudy
- 3:08right now, so we're hoping we'll chase that weather in when we get home
- 3:12this evening. Now. For those who may not know, the Run for
- 3:14the Wall is an annual event that begins in Ontario, California, I think,
- 3:20and it started one week ago out in California. Eventually wind up Saturday
- 3:25for the Wreath Lane ceremony which is at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arleings
- 3:29National Cemetery. How did you personally get involved in all this back when the
- 3:35rain now floods happened back in twenty seventeen or eighteen. I do believe rain
- 3:40Ell Elementary is one of our schools that we raised money for and everything.
- 3:45And we had a coat drive because you know, when that town got destroyed
- 3:49by the flood back back in the day. The Central Route with which I'm
- 3:53a member of, we raised all sorts of money and bought all sorts of
- 3:57coats and pillows. We had tons of donateations come in and that's when I
- 4:00got started in because they were helping our communities out now and I think it's
- 4:05a very worthwhile cause, I mean, you folks are said to arrive at
- 4:09five o'clock, and if I'm wronging any of this, you can let me
- 4:12know. At five o'clock this evening at the Living Memorial Park in Nitro,
- 4:15there's gonna be some ceremonies there, plus some opportunities for the riders I understand
- 4:19to visit the West Frond and New Vietnam Memorial Wall, which is inside the
- 4:24Nitro Wars Museum. So we certainly hope that that you folks get to enjoy
- 4:30your time here because I imagine every stop along the way there's something different going
- 4:32on, right, Yes, sir, that's correct. You know, we
- 4:36almost every overpass we go through throughout the country there's at least one person or
- 4:43a whole overpassed packed full of fire trucks, you know, emergency first responders,
- 4:46or just people out waving flags and cheering us on as we go by.
- 4:51And it's amazing. And again, this has been coming to this area
- 4:55for a number of years. I know it's a Nitro in there. For
- 4:57a while it was a Valley Park announce back in Nitro again just to see
- 5:01the response to this. I know a couple of our sister stations ninety six
- 5:05one Superstar Country k WUS and ninety eight seven of the Mountain Wild and Wonderful
- 5:10Classic Rock are going to be part of the group there. I do believe
- 5:13that are going to be welcoming you folks into town as your as you're out
- 5:16on these rides. Todd, what what's the feedback that you get from the
- 5:23public on these things? So how does it make you, folks feel when
- 5:25you see all these people show up. You know, it's it's absolutely unbelievable
- 5:29the outpouring of support we get, you know, we have this is a
- 5:33very well organized ten day cross country run. You know, every breakfast stop,
- 5:39you know, with lunch stop dinners, they're all donated to a state.
- 5:43You know, people work all year round raising money for us, you
- 5:46know, because our motto for the run is, you know, we ride
- 5:48for those who can't. You know, we're honoring our military or fallen soldiers,
- 5:51you know, and we're not all veterans. You know, some of
- 5:56us are veterans, some of us are patriots, and you know they spend
- 6:00their hard aren't money to see us for an hour and then we're gone,
- 6:03you know, But they work all year long just to come out and show
- 6:05their support to us and help us get to DC. And the planning todd
- 6:11that goes into this thing. I mean, I know what goes on in
- 6:14the planning, just on the local stops and as you said, every stop
- 6:18along the way, and you started in Ontario, California last week and you're
- 6:24going to d C. Every stop along the way. Somebody had to plan
- 6:30that, and somebody had to constantly keep in contact with the folks on the
- 6:34right. Are you running ahead? Are you running behind? What was the
- 6:36weather situation right, because I mean you face all kinds of weather. You
- 6:40mentioned it was raining in Louisville. I think for the event in Nitro,
- 6:43the seeding and everything's supposed to be fine. It's supposed to be I think
- 6:46storms possibly later in the night. But there's a heck of a lot that
- 6:49goes into this, man, because it's a cross country thing. Yes,
- 6:53you know, and you talk about the weather, you know, we actually
- 6:56we got to see our first tornado the other day and Rustle Russell, Kansas.
- 7:00You know, it was pretty impressive. It put us about five hours
- 7:03behind, but everybody made it through and it was safe, you know.
- 7:06And so but like you said, you know, we're already starting to plan
- 7:10for next year. Day. I mean, it's it's a three hundred and
- 7:12sixty five day process to get to logistically wise, to move four hundred plus
- 7:16motorcycles across the country. Yeah, I was going to ask you how many
- 7:19motorcycles are we talking about here? We're right at three hundred to three fifty
- 7:25as of account this morning, motorcycles, not including our support vehicles and all
- 7:29that other stuff. So you know, we're right at three hundred and three
- 7:31fifty, three hundred and sixty people. And what were some of the stops
- 7:34that are similar to the ones at Nitro along the way where you're going to
- 7:38actually spend a little time and get to get to grab some food and whatever.
- 7:42What were some of the stops were some of the places that you stopped
- 7:44along the way for that amount of time. One of the memorable locations that
- 7:46we actually didn't get to go to this year is Junction City, Kansas.
- 7:49You know, that was where we were delayed five hours for the for the
- 7:54tornado warnings and stuff. But you know, that's the home of Fort Riley,
- 7:57Kansas. You know, the first informative you know, that's that's one
- 8:01of the very memorable stops. You know, the whole community comes out and
- 8:05for a mile before we come into town, there's people out there standing holding
- 8:09flags. It's just almost like a tunnel of flags. And we get that
- 8:11every every evening stop we go to. The whole community just comes out and
- 8:16supports us and cheers us on. It's just I always tell it, My
- 8:20running thing is, you know, it restores your faith in humanity that we
- 8:24have people that actually come out and support us and cheer us on. And
- 8:28you know, people just come out and donate money to our calls and you
- 8:33know, give us food and everything, and it's just it's a wonderful,
- 8:35wonderful feeling, and especially right now with the country is divided as it is
- 8:41in an election year and and all the other things that are going on right
- 8:43now. I mean, it is it is nice to see that. Again,
- 8:46we're talking with Todd Taylor, who is the West Virginia coordinator for the
- 8:50Run for the Wall, and again it started in Ontario, California, last
- 8:54week. It's going to wrap up this weekend in DC. They're going to
- 8:56roll through Nitro tonight, and Todd, I could tell you as the son
- 8:58of a Vietnam veteran who died, My father died due to complications from age
- 9:03and Orange, I can tell you how much we we appreciate what you folks
- 9:07are doing. And and something that you said there that I think is very
- 9:11important about the writers that are along the way. Some are veterans and some
- 9:13are not. And that's one of the great things about supporting the military.
- 9:18They were that I did not serve in the military. As I said,
- 9:20my father did, gave his life in effect for this country. And and
- 9:26and there are so many ways that you can support activities like this even if
- 9:30you weren't a veteran. And it's it's appreciated by veterans, I'm sure.
- 9:33Yes. You know, we always say we have a severe case that we
- 9:37get in the allergies. Our eyes start tearing up when you know, you
- 9:39see that one that one person in the middle of nowhere on an overpass just
- 9:43holding a flag of saluteness as we go by. I mean, it's you
- 9:48know, it's it's a very emotional ride. You know, I've seen people
- 9:52break down, you know, because some of these, some of these Vietnam
- 9:56veterans, you know, they weren't treated as very well when they come home.
- 9:58Yeah, you know, and that is our mission is to you know,
- 10:01there's some people that when they get to that when we have our picture
- 10:05taking at the Lincoln Memorial, you know, we walk over to the Vietnam
- 10:07Veterans Memorial and we lay them, we lay up, we lay a plaque,
- 10:13you know, as a mission complete plaque. And I've seen grown men
- 10:16just fall, you know, they can't do it. But our support staff,
- 10:20we have chaplains that come with us, you know, and emotionally it's
- 10:24just a taxing experience on some of these veterans. You know, they just
- 10:26can't do it. But that's why we're all here together to support everybody and
- 10:31lift them up. And you know, that's that's what we do. You
- 10:33know, that's to get to get healing, you know, for the people
- 10:37that didn't get them the greatest welcome when they come home. All right,
- 10:41Todd, well, the best luck, safe travels. Again. You're outside
- 10:43Louisville right now. You're rolling to Nitro a little bit after four or five,
- 10:46So this afternoon, I know there's going to be a whole lot of
- 10:48people there welcoming you man. Hats off to the City of Nitro, Mayor
- 10:52Case Bolton, Joe Stevens and all those folks there for pulling this thing together
- 10:54and all the others along the way across this great country of ours that have
- 10:58made this thing happen. Todd, I appreciate you guys, and be safe.
- 11:01Okay, thank you, Dave. I appreciate you getting getting our word

- 11:35is going to join us. Also, we'll be joined by rich Lindsay,
- 11:37who was one of the winners in the election last year. So the bodycam
- 11:43footage of the police investigation, the initial call into the complaint against now former
- 11:48kenawh Antic Commission Kent Carper, was released yesterday late yesterday afternoon to the media.
- 11:54And it's a it's a about a about a nine minute video and it
- 12:01was first released and shown on WWK television yesterday, released under the Freedom of
- 12:05Information actor FOYA as we call it in the business now. The video was
- 12:09taken at Daniel Boone Park on May fifteenth of last year. And you know
- 12:13the story. Police were dispatched to the park after a woman called police and
- 12:18said a man since identified as Kent Carper had exposed himself to her. The
- 12:24patrol officer and this is all public record. It's all in the video which
- 12:28you can see. It's all over the internet. Again, kudos to WWK
- 12:33for having it out here. I believe they had it out there first up.
- 12:35May be wrong about that. That's the first place I saw it.
- 12:39The police officer was an officer by the name of Hart Childress. And I
- 12:45prefer not to get into all the details of the story, but here's the
- 12:48story as was reported by WWK. The officer who responded. Officer Childress is
- 12:54said to be the boyfriend of the Administration of assistant to Canawa County Commission President
- 13:01Lance Wheeler. Now, again this is all part of public record. Carper
- 13:05was accused of sending this administrative assistant an email asking if she was interested in
- 13:13becoming a golf superintendent. Carper, of course, resigned from his commission post
- 13:18just days before the main primary. He remained on the ballot, but was
- 13:20defeated in the primary by Natalie Tenant. Now the Commission has to pick a
- 13:26replacement for Carper. They have thirty days to do so and are taking applications.
- 13:30Say, as we speak, they're hoping to pict someone at a meeting
- 13:31on May thirtieth. If Commissioners Wheeler and Selango cannot agree, that a list
- 13:37of names will be sent to them by the Canawa County Democrat Executive Committee.
- 13:43And I'm gonna go ahead and call this one now, folks. Even though
- 13:48charges it's been announced, charges will not be filed, either locally or federal
- 13:52against former Commissioner Carpenter, I still don't think this story. Even though mister
- 13:56Carper is not facing new charges that's already put out there, I still don't
- 14:01think the story is going to be going away anytime soon, because there is
- 14:05a lot, a lot to be unpacked here. From that what was released
- 14:11to the media yesterday. You can go online, you can read it for
- 14:15yourself. I'm not going to get into all the details. The unedited videos

- 17:45guy is said to take a spot on the Judicial Bitch here in Kanawa County.
- 17:48It's Rich Lindsay. Good morning, sir, how are you hey?
- 17:49Good morning Dave? How you doing? I'm going to find I ask you
- 17:52earlier I referred to you as as judge elect. I mean, I guess
- 17:56that's correct, right, I mean I think so. We had the camp
- 18:00on Tuesday, and from after the provisional ballots were either accepted or not,
- 18:06my lead went from ninety five to one ten. And I don't think the
- 18:10I didn't stick around for the randomized checking of precints of the handcount. But
- 18:15as I understand that there was no change from the handcount, so I think
- 18:18you're right. I think you're using the right term. I guess there was
- 18:21a lot of a lot more focus this time around. It seems to me
- 18:23on a lot of the judicial races, not only here in Kanawha County,
- 18:26but I know I live in Putnam County and there was a very contentious race
- 18:30over there between Stours and Hoover won by the incumbent, Judge Stowers. A
- 18:37lot more focus on a lot of I mean, maybe I'm incorrect, but
- 18:40it seems like there's a lot more focus this year on judicial races. I
- 18:44think that's right, you know, and I need to be careful as sharing
- 18:48my opinions as to the reasons why that is. But I will say that,
- 18:51I mean, I agree with your observation that judicial races and county races.
- 18:56I think across the board there was a lot more interest. I think
- 19:00it's because, in part, you know, a lot of things have already
- 19:03been solved in the legislature to the extent that you know there's a super majority
- 19:07there, and the constitutional offices, including the Governor's office. There's really no
- 19:11question. There's a question that really as to which Republican will make it through.
- 19:15But for the most part, if you're a betting person, you know
- 19:18there may be some surprises in November, but it looks like we'll continue down
- 19:22the same road that we've been on here for some time. So, you
- 19:26know, it's interesting that you bring up the legislature because I want to talk
- 19:29about that. You're former state senator. Yes, sir, what experience rich
- 19:34did you pick up under the dome that you think will serve you well as
- 19:38a judge? Well, it's a two I wasn't expecting that question, but
- 19:44I've actually got a pretty good answer to it, I hope your the first
- 19:48thing. The first thing is that you as a legislature you get accustomed to
- 19:52reading statute and learning about laws that you may never have known existed. Obviously,
- 19:59a big part of what a judge does across the spectrum of types of
- 20:02cases and controversies is you look at different parts of the statute that as a
- 20:06lawyer you may not have experience and looking at and interpreting. So I think
- 20:10in that respect that prepared me. And then I think also, you know,
- 20:15part of what a legislator does is they try to find a way to
- 20:23resolve controversies, and judges have a very particular role in doing that. In
- 20:29their court, they must apply the law as it is, but there are
- 20:32also multiple and many opportunities where where a judge is not only interpreting the law
- 20:38but is a arbiter depending upon the types of cases before him or her.
- 20:45And so the ability to find a solution come to resolution without it going to
- 20:51trial or without things good getting to a head, I think is good experience
- 20:56for just about any profession, but especially for judges. We're talking with judge
- 21:00elect. We've decided on that title. Richard Lindsay right now is going to
- 21:04be taking this place on the as a circuit judge here in Canaan County soon.
- 21:08Now, when will you officially take office? I don't believe I take
- 21:12office until January. So you got nothing to do between now and then.
- 21:15Right, I've got to close up my cases over at the law firm.
- 21:18Let's talk about that. I mean, so what goes into that? Because
- 21:22you were, as I said, you're an attorney and you got a law
- 21:23firm. So what do you have to do in order to be a judge.
- 21:26I mean you just got to say okay, hand off to somebody else,
- 21:29or I mean, what what do you have to do? Pretty much,
- 21:30I mean most of my cases already associate with a local firm since my
- 21:34days in the state Senate, in order to keep my practice and keep it
- 21:38going, we had to associate with another law firm to help us out while
- 21:41I was in the state legislature to keep cases on track. So most of
- 21:45the I'm lucky in that most of the cases I have left on my docket
- 21:48as a lawyer, they're already involved in. I do have a handful of
- 21:52cases that I'm going to have to tie up here before the end of the
- 21:56year, and I think most of them I will be able to. Obviously
- 22:00there'll be a couple that I don't. And that's what you do. You
- 22:03talk to another attorney and say, hey, can you can you help mister
- 22:06and missus Smith out in this case or you interested? And that usually works
- 22:11out so well. That's how things were wrapped up. Now, what kind
- 22:14of law did you specialize in when you were personal injury? Personal injury so
- 22:18folks who were injured through no fault of their own against those big bat insurance
- 22:22companies in the courtroom. But no, so that's that's the bulk of my
- 22:27practice. I did do a little family law. I did a little appointment
- 22:33criminal cases on the magisterial level. I had a couple on this cric at
- 22:36court level too. But I'd say about eighty percent of my practice was civil,
- 22:40twenty percent criminal. But Dave Alan showing five any line brought to you

- 23:03Okay, So you were a candidate for state Senate and you won your race
- 23:07a few years ago in eighteen and eighteen, and then you ran for re
- 23:10election and you lost two and then now you ran for judge. You and
- 23:15you won. Talk about the differences between running for the legislative seat that you
- 23:21had and running for judge as far as the strategy goes, Well, you
- 23:25know, in eighteen it was a different type of an election for me,
- 23:29because I really tried to play to the base of my voters in twenty two
- 23:33and twenty four and twenty two because of the redistricting of the eighth district,
- 23:37we went from a portion of Kanaal and a portion of Putnam to a little
- 23:41smaller portion of Kanaal, Putnam Southern Jackson Alive running all of Clay and those
- 23:48rural areas weren't necessarily conducive to the party I was registered in, so I
- 23:56did everything I could to try to appeal met as many Republicans as possible and
- 24:02persuade. That did not work out, but I made the effort, and
- 24:06I made a lot of contacts along the way, especially here in Kanall County,
- 24:10that probably helped me out in this twenty four election. And so you
- 24:15know, I played the same type of strategy in both twenty two and twenty
- 24:21four, which is the right way to do it, I think, especially
- 24:23with general elections and the primary election is the only election for judicial offices.
- 24:30These are non partisan races. So not only is it good for you as
- 24:33an individual to meet people who may disagree with you and persuade them, but
- 24:37it's good politics to try to persuade them as well, because that's going to
- 24:41be the electorate. And we found out in this cycle that I'm sure you
- 24:45read us on the paper where six thousand more Republican ballots were cast in Kanak
- 24:49County than Democrat ballots for this primary election. And so I think you got
- 24:56to go to where the people are and you know, obviously you're honesus with
- 24:59them if they're interested in what your party affiliation is, but then you have
- 25:03a good conversation as to what you bring to the table. And I found
- 25:07on the campaign trail that regardless of political persuasion, most people agree on,
- 25:12for example, keeping politics out of the courtroom. And so that's something I
- 25:17agree with as well. And so those are the types of conversations that we
- 25:19had. And again it grounds you as a candidate, but should you be
- 25:23elected, it makes you a better elected official to know where the people are
- 25:26because thankfully in this system that people choose who their leaders are. So so
- 25:32iago with rich lindsay, here, so have you started. I know that
- 25:34you just had the victory a week and a day ago and you're still trying
- 25:37to wrap up things you know, with the with your with your current job.
- 25:41But have you started to look ahead a little bit and think, Okay,
- 25:44day one, here's what I want to have you on before you start.
- 25:45But if you started you started thinking about that, I mean, what
- 25:48am I going to do? I've already I've already reached out to a couple
- 25:51judges here in the circuit been have you been sized for the road yet?
- 25:55No, I don't even want to think about that, to be honest with
- 25:57you. But I've reached out to a couple of judges here in the circuit
- 26:02who who I know, and asked if I could attend some closed door proceedings
- 26:07just so I can get a better feel as to how they conduct those proceedings.
- 26:11And it said close close hearing, not close close hearing proceedings, and
- 26:15that'll be part of the process. I think that you have to go to
- 26:19I've been told judge school at some point, which I'll probably go to obviously
- 26:23have to judge the school, Anthony. They have to go to judge school?
- 26:27Is that what they give you your gabble? I don't know what they
- 26:30do. I'm hoping they don't, you know, put run me through the
- 26:33gun like jumping Jackson stuff likes or yeah, well, who knows man,
- 26:37I'll report on. I'll let you know when I know, reporting now from
- 26:41judges School. So but we'll see you know, And of course I'm excited.
- 26:45Family is excited about it, and it's an opportunity to just you know,
- 26:51serve the community I love. And it's a wonderful gift that I've been
- 26:53given by the voters, and I thank them for it. So, you
- 26:56know, you kind of look like and I mean it's in the best possible
- 26:59you kind of look like Anders from from Night Court. Anyway. You kind
- 27:02of got that thing that was one of my favorite shows in the eighties,
- 27:03and you kind of got that thing going on. And he was a good
- 27:06judge. You brought a lot of humor to the to the proceedings. So
- 27:08that's always nice. Rich. I want to give you an opportunity, as
- 27:11I do anytime I have a political figure on that wins the race. I
- 27:15like to give you an opportunity to say thanks to people. Well, sure,
- 27:18better start with your family. Man. Well, I mean, first
- 27:21I just said again, thank the voters. Thank the voters, people who've
- 27:23known me, you know, my entire life. I appreciate you coming out
- 27:26and supporting me and know exactly the type of person I am, and I
- 27:32think my wife, as you mentioned my family, Allison, who is a
- 27:34practicing physicians assistant, so she cares for patients eight to ten hours a day
- 27:38after over the last several weeks. In addition to that, had to pick
- 27:45up the boys and get them to their activities and sports and cook dinner while
- 27:48I was out, you know, throughout the county. And so all the
- 27:51candidates get splashed. No one thinks about the spouses. Candidates. Spouses do
- 27:56tremendous work. The entire family runs for office when you run for office,
- 28:00even the dog ran for office. Yes, absolutely. And then my the
- 28:03guy who I worked with, Seth Green, SAIDs who I think you've met
- 28:06or no, I sath, I'm very well. He's a he's a campaign
- 28:08guy that sells paint during the day. Here's a campaign consultant at night.
- 28:12So he is someone who can crunch the numbers and and and get you to
- 28:18the people who you need to talk to and to where you need to go.
- 28:21And I appreciate that. So I did have one text here We're not
- 28:25trying to get the cart before the horse, but somebody texted and wanted to
- 28:29know Attorney General next I'm not making that up legitimate text here. I'm just
- 28:36happy to serve. So let's just get through that, and you know we'll
- 28:40see at another date in the future. But there are no plans to run
- 28:42for anything other than that deserved. The good people can all counting, all
- 28:47right, Rich, I appreciate you man, thanks a lot the idea.

- 29:33percent of the price of your bill to the Pick of the Litter group.

- 34:17but is something I want to pass along. The Stonewall Jackson High School class
- 34:22of nineteen seventy four is getting ready for their fifty year reunion this summer.
- 34:25It's August the seventeenth, to be exact. And even in this world of
- 34:29Google and social media where you can seemingly find out anything about anybody at any
- 34:32time, sometimes it's hard to find people. And so they ask if we
- 34:37because people listen a few two three four five listen to the show, and
- 34:39they ask if I would throw it out there. They're looking for classmates.
- 34:43Have a Facebook page Stonewall Jackson High Class is seventy four where you can contact
- 34:47Wie walker Heart at three zero four four four four seven one sixty one.
- 34:52Debbie Walker Heart three zero four four four four seventy one sixty one. Glad
- 34:57to try to help you out, Debbie, and good luck. I've been
- 34:59involved in my high school class reunions over the past years and I enjoy It's
- 35:02not for everyone, I know, but if you're a member of the Stonewall
- 35:06High class of seventy four, get in touch with Debbie either that phone number
- 35:08or on Facebook. Greg Thomas is here a man. How you doing doing
- 35:15well, buddy? How you strike me Gregory as a type of gad that
- 35:19probably did not do a high school reunion type thing I went to. I
- 35:22think I went to like my ten year did you I went to one for
- 35:27my college. I actually had my twenty five year college when coming up,
- 35:30But in our school, I went to Hampton Sydney, Like they usually do
- 35:34a really good job with sort of letting you know about that stuff, and
- 35:36they kind of didn't. Like we started texting some of my buddies and everybody's
- 35:38like, I didn't even get an email about it or anything about it.
- 35:43Reunions have social media in a lot of wates. Because I went to my
- 35:45ten year high school reunion was off the so I break the mic. It
- 35:50was off sorry, Anthony. It was off the charts. It was it
- 35:52was fair. I mean, everybody can and then it just kept getting less
- 35:54and less. It's not because of getting old. Everybody died. It wasn't
- 35:57necessarily that. It's just people keep up now on social media who they want
- 36:00to keep up with. Yeah today, So all right, so nothing about
- 36:05that. I want to talk about takeaway from the election last week. Start
- 36:08with the governor's race, give or take a little here. It pretty much
- 36:13went as the Rex repass and Metro News Research America balls that it would look.
- 36:17I think Morrissey had a Morrisey had high name ID, he had a
- 36:23large core group of support that he maintained throughout the election. There his campaign
- 36:30and packs collectively raised like seventeen million dollars, and so anytime someone else tried
- 36:37to get up some ground on him, you know, you know, Chris
- 36:40Miller, you know, started to put together a pretty good campaign and made
- 36:44a big push, and as soon as he got close enough, Morrisey's pack
- 36:46smacked him down. And then all of a sudden, you know, more
- 36:50Capito kind of did the same thing, and you know, he started spending
- 36:52his money and he got close and that outside pack came in and they smacked
- 36:55him down. And you know, I just think that that core group of
- 37:00support for Morrissey, and I'd actually put them together some numbers, you know.
- 37:06But he Morrissey in the primary in twenty eighteen when he ran for US
- 37:09Senate, he got forty eight thousand votes. In this election, he got
- 37:14nearly seventy five thousand votes. No, Look, we have a lot more
- 37:17Republicans there, or more people to choose from. But I just think it
- 37:22goes to show you that, look, Morrisey does not have a majority of
- 37:25the you know, this isn't some down of mandate. He didn't have the
- 37:28majority of the Republicans. He's just got a really big core group of support
- 37:32that stuck with him through this stuff, and that that was enough to push
- 37:37him through. Had a text here though, waiting on you when you got
- 37:39here, said, I asked Greg if a large Republican feel benefited Morrissey.
- 37:43I don't believe Morrissey says a Texter would have won a heads up race against
- 37:46Capito. Is there and they, of course they wont offers a new truth
- 37:50for the mansion rumors will look. I think, look, Morrisey would have
- 37:52had a lot harder time one on one. I mean no doubt. I
- 37:57mean, look, it doesn't say he would have stuck to exactly seventy five
- 38:00thousand votes he had. You know, there is sort of this anti I
- 38:05don't want to say it anti. There's just sort of a people want somebody
- 38:08other than Morrissey sentiment out there, and it got split up three ways.
- 38:12I mean I think that that callers kind of right to a degree. I
- 38:15think this, And look and as you know, I mean I was sort
- 38:17of at anybody but Morrissey person during the campaign. But these Mansion rumors,
- 38:22this is ridiculous. I mean it really is. I think. You know,
- 38:28let's go back to that twenty eighteen, you know, election that we
- 38:30talked about where Morrisey you know, lost to Mansion in the in the fall.
- 38:36Fast forward from that, take that point, fast forward to now.
- 38:40There are one hundred and sixty three thousand fewer Democrats today than in November twenty
- 38:46eighteen, seventy two thousand more Republicans, sixteen thousand more unaffiliated voters. That's
- 38:52a switch of that's a swing of two hundred and fifty thousand voters. Now
- 38:57these are registered voters, so they're not all likely going to go to the
- 38:59polls, but two hundred and fifty thousand voter registration switch and more so only
- 39:05lost by nineteen thousand the first time, you know. So, I mean,
- 39:07it's just, you know, it's just silly, you know. And
- 39:12look, the reality is Joe Manchin, after he voted for that Inflation Reduction
- 39:17Act, he knew he wasn't going to run for US Senate again. He
- 39:21knew he wasn't going to run for governor again. And this is just that
- 39:24I think it's just extremely selfish of the of the Mansion camp to keep kind
- 39:29of bringing this stuff up. And they do it every time though, right,
- 39:30every time there's a governor's right, so he may come back, he
- 39:32may do this, But who's responsible for Because here's the thing that's one.
- 39:37I'm here, I've gotten a hold on, I've got in I've got inside
- 39:39sources like you know, like all fevers of the media do, and I
- 39:42hear and I do. I've frequently talked to people inside the Republican Party.
- 39:46There are Republicans, there are Republicans greg that want that want Mansion to get
- 39:52in this race. There are Democrats that may not feel that Steve Williams is
- 39:57a strong enough Canada and they want Mansion to get back in. They're there
- 40:00and for people to just poopoo them and say, well, these people aren't
- 40:04there. They're there, you know them, and you've talked to them as
- 40:07Democrats and Republicans. Look, they're one hundred percent there, right, And
- 40:10that is sort of that good old boy network that everybody campaigns against. That's
- 40:14who those people are. Those are the people that no matter if the Democrats
- 40:17win or the Republicans win, they always win, right Like, That's who
- 40:21those people are. And Look, even though I haven't always supported Morsey,
- 40:25I think there's a few things that Morrissey has an opportunity to do well that
- 40:30could really amount to a successful governorship. And one of those things is to
- 40:36get rid of those kind of people, right. I mean, you know,
- 40:38we still have a ton of old school Democrat lobbyists that worked against us
- 40:43the whole time. And now you know, they cut a few checks here
- 40:45and there, but they really work against us and they're not with us.
- 40:49A lot of our business association folks are entirely useless and they need to go.
- 40:53They've needed to go for a decade or more but Joe Manchin has kind
- 40:57of kept a lot of those people alive. I think one of the good,
- 41:01one of the best things that I see about a Morrisey governorship is sort
- 41:05of flushing that out right, and that's something he's gonna do. So are
- 41:07you supporting Morrissey? Look, I mean, I think he's He's gonna win
- 41:13regardless of if it. You're saying, no, let me back up.
- 41:16You're saying that there's no way Mansion's in. Oh no, No, Look,
- 41:20I think I think there's definitely people trying to get him in. I'm
- 41:22just saying Morrisey will beat him like a drum. I think Morrisey will beat
- 41:27Manson badly. And do you think he would beat Steve Williams badly? I
- 41:30would assume, so I don't think. I Look, I don't know.
- 41:34I mean, Mansion obviously be able to raise more money than Steve Williams,
- 41:37but I just don't think Mansion would do all that much better than Steve Williams.
- 41:39And I think it's I mean, for I mean, the Democrats have
- 41:43to be hating Mansion right now, right, I mean, the Democrats that
- 41:45are left have to be hating Mansion because it's like, all right, we've
- 41:47got this new nominee. You know, we've got a Republican that only got
- 41:52thirty five percent of the vote or whatever he got. And the very first
- 41:54impression everybody gets is Joe Manchin doesn't think he can win and wants to be
- 41:58in there instead. Yeah, well that's what I said to God. But
- 42:00Steve Williams, poor Steve Williams, is standing there going, hey, hello,
- 42:04I've been in success. I've turned Huntington around. Huntington's a whole lot
- 42:07better than what it was at one point. I mean, somebody spends a
- 42:09lot of time on honeys and I can tell you it's better than it was.
- 42:13It ain't great, but it's better than what it was. But Steve
- 42:15Williams is over here going, hey, hello, I'm still here. I'm
- 42:17still here. It's but that's a typical Joe mansion thing to do. Man
- 42:21with Joe, it's always about Joe. It was never about the party,
- 42:23it was never about the state. It's always been about Joe. And it
- 42:28is even on his way out, it's just look, hey, look at
- 42:30me, Look at me, and so look I look. Morrisey's going to
- 42:34you know, Patrick Morrisey's going to be the next governor. I think I
- 42:37think that getting flushing out some of the remaining remnants of this old Democrat machine
- 42:42is something positive he can do. You know, I've got this line right.
- 42:45Morrisey's not from here, but I think one of the benefit. I
- 42:47mean, he's lived here for a while now that he's been the attorney general,
- 42:51but like you know, he isn't tied into this old bureaucratic network we
- 42:55have here in Charleston. And the reality is a lot of that old Democrat
- 43:00machine is still left. I mean deep in the bowels of DHHR and Department
- 43:04of Education and Transportation and some of that stuff are just all these old Democrat
- 43:08operatives. And Morrisey doesn't have any affiliate. Not only does he not have
- 43:12any connection to those people, those are the people that work against him,
- 43:15you know. So I think I think flushing some of that out, you
- 43:19know, getting getting rid of a lot of that is definitely I think a
- 43:22positive thing that Morrissey can do for the state. And then you know,
- 43:25look, he ran as I'm I'm the most conservative guy and I'm looking forward
- 43:30to kind of seeing you know. So, hey, do you say Gregor
- 43:32a you supporting him or not, I'm looking forward to seeing the uh one
- 43:36he's gonna win, But to I want to see that agenda, right,
- 43:40I mean, you ran as a conservative. It's hard in a campaign like
- 43:44that that's all TV driven and you know, negative ads back and forth about
- 43:47this or that and whatever. I mean, now he has a real chance
- 43:51to come out and say, hey, here's my agenda. Here's the first
- 43:53ten things I'm gonna do when I'm governor. And I think if he,
- 43:57you know, puts that together and puts that out there, you know some
- 44:00of those people that were supporting Miller or Moore, Mack or whoever, are
- 44:05going to look at that and say, hey, you know, these are
- 44:07things that I'd like to see done. But will those individuals, will they
- 44:08come out? And I mean Mike Warner, I think has already said he's
- 44:12he's behind. I don't know about Miller and the others. Will they assume
- 44:15they will? And I even Capito, I don't, I mean I assume
- 44:20so, right, I mean, I mean, I think that's the thing
- 44:22though, right, I mean, Morrissey's going to have to come out and
- 44:24say, hey, here's my agenda. Shelley Moore Kabano said last week.
- 44:28She's the head of the Republican Party in West Virginia. She said that,
- 44:30and I've I've heard people make comments on that one way or the other.
- 44:37People that notice she said that, Look, I don't know. And then
- 44:40you know, there is the speculation that that there was. I've said that
- 44:45before. I mean, you know, there were people early on that said,
- 44:47you know, Morrissey was running for this so that he could run for
- 44:51US Senate. And there's no doubt Morrissey's goal from the start has been US
- 44:54Senate, not governor. So maybe so what we don't know about that though?
- 45:00Does that mean it's senate in two years or senate in six years,
- 45:05right and or four you know what I mean? Or whatever? You know,
- 45:07Senate in six So I think that's the you know, I definitely think,
- 45:09you know, I think he would be hard pressed to say that's not
- 45:12a goal of mine. But in politics, you know, timing is everything,
- 45:16and you know time will tell you know what he's going to do on
- 45:20that real question. Before we have to take a break here, somebody wanted
- 45:22to know your thought on the Blair lost and I only got about twenty seconds
- 45:24for you two. Look it was you know that, Well that will take
- 45:30longer than that. But like the look that Eastern Panhandle you just got.
- 45:34You've got a feud out there between a couple of different factions, and Blair
- 45:37got caught up in the middle of it. You know, if anybody that
- 45:40knows Blair knows that he's not a selfish guy. He was a team player.
- 45:44He was looking at the whole you know, he looked more at the
- 45:46whole map than it just himself. And he got caught up in that and
- 45:50it was unfortunate. I think it's going to be a real bad thing for
- 45:52the State Senate. And you know that Eastern Panhandle is kind of its own,
- 45:58its own, you know, East and the beast that has yet to
- 46:02be tamed. All right, we'll be back right after this on the Voice

- 48:15nine to fifty five at ay valland the show brought to you a part by
- 48:17a Husband's Pizza. Greg Thomas is here. Judicial races your take mitter Thomas
- 48:23well as you all know. You know, it was very very involved in
- 48:27one local judicial race where we came up short. And I couldn't be more
- 48:30proud of Ashley. You know, Ashley DM. She ran an unbelievably good
- 48:35race. Uh worked hard, you know, did everything she was supposed to
- 48:37do. You know. The reality is is, you know, the the
- 48:43personal injury lawyers and unions went out and raised a you know, million dollars
- 48:47into a superpack, and you know, Jennifer Bailey's campaign had eight hundred thousand
- 48:52dollars for a county judge race, you know, and we raised we had
- 48:55about two hundred. You know, I always thought we could we could get
- 48:59out spent two to one, but we just weren't able to get out spent
- 49:01four to one. You know. So I'm proud of the race she ran
- 49:05and proud of the race we ran. You know, I do think the
- 49:07personal injury lawyers were much more disciplined. You know, what they've done in
- 49:10years past is they'll go raising million dollars and spread it over ten races across
- 49:15the state or whatever, and you know, and not be successful. They
- 49:19were much more disciplined this time. You know, they spent their they spent
- 49:22their million dollars here on a on a on the court race, and on
- 49:24the on the prosecutors race, and the school board race here locally. You
- 49:30know, look, the real, the fix for the reality is for the
- 49:32conservatives here is we have to go back to parties and elections of judges and
- 49:37school boards, you know, I mean, what's happening now is the state's
- 49:39very conservative, it's very Republican. And what you're getting is you're getting very
- 49:45liberal judges and very liberal candidates for school board that are essentially running as conservatives,
- 49:50and they're able to get enough money from the liberal interests to fund a
- 49:53campaign where they can count on the Democrats in May, but then they all
- 49:57call. But then they get enough money to trick Republicans in thinking their conservatives.
- 50:01And so if you know, if this legislature and the Republican Party wants
- 50:05to see actual conservatives elected to school boards and judges, we you know,
- 50:08we absolutely have to go back to parties and elections, which we had for
- 50:13decades and decades until the Republicans took over. And that was one of the
- 50:15first things they switched. How easy is that to switch? Very easy?
- 50:19You pass a bill. I mean, but we passed a bill to switch
- 50:22it. I mean, honestly, the two people that really wanted that were
- 50:25Tim Armstead and Charlie Trump, who were both now on the State Supreme Court.
- 50:30But they were the ones that what they were in the legislature, you
- 50:32know, they'd kind of always wanted to be a judge, and that then,
- 50:35you know, for decades it didn't look they were never going to be
- 50:37able to get there as a Republican against Democrats. And then as soon as
- 50:40we got there, it was like, well, I don't you know,
- 50:43I'm you know, I think this is the way we should do it now,
- 50:45and it just isn't working. You know, it's not you know,
- 50:49if you if you actually want to have conservatives in those positions, you're going
- 50:52to have to make them parties and elections again. And I think with those
- 50:55guys no longer in the legislature and at the court, you know are going
- 51:00to see and you have a bill every year to do it. You know,
- 51:01we just we they haven't acted on it, mainly because Charlie, you
- 51:06know, Trump said he wasn't gonna run it, so without him there,
- 51:08you know, and I think when you add in the school boards too,
- 51:12that gets a whole different. You know, there's only there's only certain amount
- 51:14of people that care about the judicial races. There's more people that probably care
- 51:17about the school board races. I think when you put those together, which
- 51:22is what I'm here and they're going to do, I think there's a high
- 51:24likelihood that'll happen, all right. Talking with Greg Thomas here, Tex says
- 51:29Greg could not say quite he was four more see, but he totally talks
- 51:34like it. Well look, you know, look, I'm not I'm not
- 51:37against him, you know, I mean, I was never like against.
- 51:39I mean, I'm I don't really like the guy that much, like personally,
- 51:44you know what I mean. Like, but I don't have to write.
- 51:45I mean, I do this for like a living, like I don't.
- 51:46It's not my job to like him. Like I don't need a job
- 51:50in his administration. I don't need any favors from him. What I want
- 51:53to do is look at the agenda he's going to put forward. And I
- 51:57know there's a couple of things that I've heard him say he's going to do.
- 51:59And that's why I referred to kind of flushing out some of the old
- 52:00Democrat machine. I've heard him talk about that that's something I want to see
- 52:05done. You know, so if Morrissey puts out an agenda of ten items,
- 52:07there's a high likelihood I'm going to support eight of them. All Right,
- 52:10I know you're your pick for Senate president or do you want to do
- 52:14that? Look, I think that, you know, I don't. I
- 52:15don't kind of get in the middle of that. It's that I work for
- 52:17those guy, I kind of work for the Senate, So I don't get
- 52:19in the middle of that. Whoever they want to get it'll be good.
- 52:22But I expect to see kind of a consensus person that can kind of bring
- 52:25the desperate groups to desparate groups together, you know, that can kind of
- 52:30move continue to move and you know we've had the most conservative agenda in the
- 52:32country and we'll continue to do so. Greg Thomas, I appreciate you being
- 52:36here, man, Thanks a lot. Thank you, sir. All Right,
- 52:37I'm gonna be on talk line around ten thirty or so this morning to
- 52:39catch me there. I'll be away tomorrow. I will be back Friday morning
- 52:44till then. Have fun and love. Somebody sets a ninety six point five
- 52:57that then Charles did one o four point five cross lanes you VRC media station.
