- 0:32Are we live? Welcome to the All Balls No
- 0:34Filler podcast. Live from the cabin Kitchen.
- 0:37I'm Zach. He's Brad.
- 0:39What's? Up and behind the scenes, we
- 0:42have a man that in 2008 was the World XL champion.
- 0:46He's researcher Cal. Hey, researcher Cal, welcome you
- 0:50all right, Zach, how are you doing?
- 0:52I'm good, my man, I'm good. I'm even better after the
- 0:54weekend, I'm not going to lie. How are you?
- 0:57Yeah, yeah, I'm all right. Not too bad.
- 0:59It's been a busy one, a bit of a chaotic weekend and early start
- 1:04to the week, but I'm really excited to get stuck into it.
- 1:07Hell yeah what we've got in store for today, mate.
- 1:10Yeah. So as always at this time of
- 1:11year, we're going to revisit the coaching carousel and of course,
- 1:14check out the biggest games of the season so far for our balls
- 1:18of the week, and that's the AFC and NFC Championship games, of
- 1:22course. And as always, we can't forget
- 1:25all of the balls, which we're quickly learning don't always
- 1:28include balls, and just those general major stories in the
- 1:33world of sport and the return of drum roll stats that sound fake.
- 1:40Oh I, I like this. For me, I like this one.
- 1:43This the stats that sound fake. I'm looking forward to this.
- 1:46But we've got jam packed episode as per usual, so let's get into
- 1:52our coaching carousel for the week.
- 1:55Boom, we are here. There's been a lot happening.
- 1:58I think, hey, look, I think the NFL will listening to the all
- 2:02balls no filler podcast because we said it as soon as Jim
- 2:05Harbaugh, so John Harbaugh gets gets hired, boom, everyone else
- 2:11is going to do and it is happened, right?
- 2:14There's been loads of hires over these past, you know, two week.
- 2:17We covered a few of them last week.
- 2:18More going on this week. There's stuff going in as we
- 2:21speak every single day. Do you want to run through a
- 2:24couple of them mate? Yeah, so just to recap, if you
- 2:28didn't check us out last week and you've been living under a
- 2:31rock in the NFL world, we have John Harbour hired as the head
- 2:35coach for the Giants. Robert Salla was taken on by the
- 2:38Titans. Kevin Stefanski was one of those
- 2:41other top two, probably top tier names that has been floated
- 2:44around. He lines himself up with the
- 2:46Falcons and in a really exciting potential, I think with that
- 2:49team. Jeff Haffley to my Dolphins,
- 2:52they're really impressed with his opening press conference.
- 2:55By the way, I don't know if you caught it, him and Sully, the
- 2:58new GM definitely in lockstep. I was dead impressed with that,
- 3:01but I won't go on. And then since then, if I'm not
- 3:04mistaken, we've had Jesse Minter hired by the Ravens, which I
- 3:08think when John was first let go, I'm not sure if his name was
- 3:13there at the forefront, I could be wrong, but he definitely
- 3:16became that front runner, didn't he?
- 3:17Through the process, Steelers hired Mike McCarthy, so the
- 3:23return of the big dog. And then just today, as we
- 3:28record, I believe Joe Brady promoted at the Bills, so kept
- 3:34within to the head coach. What's your thoughts?
- 3:39You know what, right, I like that Mike McCarthy with me,
- 3:43right. I like Mike McCarthy at
- 3:45Steelers. He's a he's a, he's a, he's a
- 3:47Pittsburgh guy. Like I'm sure, I wonder why.
- 3:49I'm sure research Carl's going to have something to say about
- 3:51it as well-being being a a Steelers fan himself.
- 3:55But I like him there. I believe as well as that he's I
- 3:57think he's the oldest head coach that they've ever hired.
- 4:01So like they don't want to go for the younger guys.
- 4:04I quite like that there. I'll be honest with you.
- 4:07There's a couple of names standing out there.
- 4:09Robert Salad at the Titans. I do.
- 4:11I do like that big, but it it it contradicts itself being a
- 4:15defensive coach with a with a with a with a generational.
- 4:19I know you'll love that when I'm going to keep bringing up the
- 4:21generational QB that they've got in in camp Ward.
- 4:24But yeah, there's there's there's a few in there.
- 4:27The Browns. Let me laugh now I'm going to
- 4:29touch on the Browns in a second. But what's your view on on on
- 4:32these? Anyone stand out to you?
- 4:34Yeah, I probably agree. You know, and I think the you
- 4:37mentioned the seller 1 and that's actually really
- 4:39interesting, isn't it? Because I'm sure it's officially
- 4:43it's official or it's nearly official, but Brian Dabal is
- 4:46going to the Titans as the OC I believe.
- 4:49And I think that's, I think that's probably probably one of
- 4:54the best moves I think of this hiring cycle.
- 4:57Like you look at the work you did with Alan at the Bills and
- 5:02he obviously didn't have that same success at the Giants or
- 5:04that he could argue he was polishing a turd a little bit at
- 5:07times. Like he did have some good Danny
- 5:10Dimes years or at least a year of good Danny Danny Danny Dimes.
- 5:14So I think that hire there for Cam Ward is potentially one of
- 5:18the top hires of the whole coaching carousel.
- 5:21And I know we won't have time to dig into every OCDC quarterback
- 5:25DB coach higher there is, but that's definitely one that
- 5:28stands out. I think another one obviously
- 5:31not on this list because we're looking currently at the head
- 5:33coaches again, trying not to be biassed, but might.
- 5:37But Daniel, who's unless he secures a head coaching job, is
- 5:41the OC of charges. And I think that's just there's
- 5:45just a little nugget as a Dolphins fan that really
- 5:47interests me with that one because there's always the
- 5:48Justin Herbert to thing. You come, you know, you're
- 5:53comparing two different players. But it's going to be really
- 5:55interesting now Mike's gone there.
- 5:57But on the flip side, how many offensive coordinators have gone
- 6:00there hoping that's going to catapult them into a head
- 6:02coaching role? And it's failed miserably.
- 6:04So it's yeah, it's it's interesting.
- 6:07It's. Some personality class for me
- 6:09for charges like you've got Jim Harbour and you've got you've
- 6:13got Mike McDaniels right there who are two completely.
- 6:17You look at them on on paper. It's like kind of chalk and
- 6:20cheese. I saw like a pretty funny video
- 6:21circle on exit like this guy's recreated that the interview
- 6:25process and it's just it's so it's so funnily accurate and
- 6:29nothing's talking about football and it's like it's like, you
- 6:31know, going deep dive into into conversation with.
- 6:34But he's got an I'm excited to see it because I agree with you
- 6:37there. I think he's got the potential.
- 6:39He's got everything written on the cards to be a very, very,
- 6:41very exciting signing there. Like, but I mentioned the Browns
- 6:47not so long back and they're still vacant at the moment.
- 6:50And there's been loads of things circulating about the hiring
- 6:53process of what the Browns are doing right now.
- 6:57And they're sending questionnaires out and they're
- 6:59sending this out and they're sending that out and they're
- 7:01making you do this, this and this.
- 7:02And it's like people are withdrawing themselves because
- 7:07not the right fit. And at what point do you realise
- 7:10like, Hey, hang on, we're having to the kind of resort now and
- 7:13and again, I'm probably going to get this wrong.
- 7:15I'm going to open up so you can kind of back me up on this.
- 7:18They're they're about like bumping the DC up to to head
- 7:22coach. And it seemed like a bit of a
- 7:24bit of like a we ain't got anybody.
- 7:26So get yourself an air pal like that kind of higher well.
- 7:31That's the rumour though, isn't it?
- 7:32That apparently a lot of guys are pulling out because the
- 7:35Browns love this guy and they're saying, well, you're keeping him
- 7:38on as ADC, but actually, who knows what goes on behind the
- 7:41closed doors? Is it actually that the Browns
- 7:43want him, NOA? And they're just going through
- 7:46the motions. They've got to go through that
- 7:48cycle, haven't they? They've got to interview so many
- 7:50people and so many people, certain backgrounds, XYZ.
- 7:53But you've got Jim Schwartz there rubbing his fingers,
- 7:55rubbing his hands together, thinking this is mine, this is
- 7:58mine. Just because I'm an
- 7:59inconvenience, this is going to be mine.
- 8:01I think it's fall withdrawals. Researcher Carl's saying, you
- 8:05know, that's whether, you know, The thing is we don't always
- 8:08hear about everything, do we? But it's really quite public
- 8:11this year that Browns have had four people withdraw.
- 8:14And you think of the guys that are withdrawing, they've worked
- 8:17their backsides off for as long as they've been around.
- 8:23You know, the sport, which for most of these guys will be since
- 8:25they could walk and throw a ball.
- 8:28And then to turn down opportunities to be a head
- 8:30coach, which in the coaching game is the biggest job you can
- 8:32have. It's, it's a bit awkward, isn't
- 8:36it? That I agree.
- 8:38I agree. I just think it's at what point
- 8:39do you give your organisation a bit of a look at and think,
- 8:41right, OK, if people are pulling themselves out, there's, you
- 8:44know, there's there's guys that I've taken jobs, you know, like
- 8:47you say with, with, with Matt McDaniel, if he doesn't get a
- 8:51head coaching job elsewhere, he's going to be the OC at the
- 8:53Chargers. Well, he's pulled away from a
- 8:56head coaching role, like as in a potential being in line with
- 8:59that. He's pulled away from that by
- 9:01just a bit of a shake up there and another curveball in the
- 9:04coaching, the coaching carousel world.
- 9:07The Bills hired Joe Brady, but there were a little name getting
- 9:11thrown around, which I liked about the Bills next potential
- 9:14head coach before Brady got got named.
- 9:17And that one I missed a Philip Rivers went in for an interview.
- 9:21Now, could you imagine Philip Rivers walking into that
- 9:24building being like the most, even in his prime, the most like
- 9:27immobile QB just stood in the pocket, threw the ball right,
- 9:30left, right and centre walk up to Josh Allen Green right.
- 9:32We're going to make you a pocket passer.
- 9:34This is what we're going to do. Like, Can you imagine?
- 9:36I just, it'd be so surreal seeing that in my for me, but.
- 9:40I thought it was hilarious because like you, you hear about
- 9:43all these press conferences and the sacrifices that people make.
- 9:46I can't remember. It was now I saw it that one of
- 9:49the head coaches sees his kids for like 30 minutes in a week
- 9:53because he comes home early from the facility.
- 9:57One. Yeah.
- 9:57Mike McDonald, Thank you, Cal. It's easy.
- 10:00Kids for 30 minutes a week. Now, we won't get into the the
- 10:03arguments about that side of stuff, but it's funny because
- 10:06then you've got Philip Rivers who's probably going for these
- 10:08head coach, this head coach job to get away from his 65,000
- 10:11kids. So he's not got to see them for
- 10:13half an hour a week. That's it, That's it.
- 10:17But yeah, that's that's the that's the main kind of stories
- 10:20around the around the coaching world and what's going in the
- 10:23head coaching side anyway, Not coordinate.
- 10:25As I said, if we missed anything, guys, do us a favour.
- 10:27Let us know in the comments below.
- 10:28What's your favourite signs? Well, what are you looking
- 10:30forward to? Your team got a new head coach.
- 10:32If so, what do you reckon? Let us know because we're
- 10:36interested in, we want to kind of engage with you guys more
- 10:38about what you think on this. So yeah, question.
- 10:41For you just before we move on, let me let me interrupt this
- 10:43one. Obviously we know the results
- 10:45and we'll get into those. But a year ago, two years ago,
- 10:49every year there's been a question about the one and only
- 10:54LA Rams head coach. Is he or is he not going into
- 11:00the world of media? Is he going to retire with his
- 11:02model life? Like, do we see that happening
- 11:06or is that how close he was again?
- 11:10To attempting I, no, I think, I think he's there.
- 11:19I think he's there for the good. I think he doesn't need to move
- 11:26on. I think he's crucial.
- 11:27I don't think his jobs under scrutiny at all.
- 11:32I like this. I don't think to be forced out
- 11:34like say Tomlin was, for instance, or anything from just
- 11:37not getting there because I think he's, you know, he's
- 11:38borderline across that mark pretty much most of the time
- 11:41anyway. I don't know.
- 11:44It's at what point, because he's still pretty young, right?
- 11:48In terms of the into the coaching world, he's still
- 11:51pretty. He's still got a life ahead of
- 11:52him. I mean, I just actually bringing
- 11:54that coin in me until it starts, until the pressure starts
- 11:56getting. It's not like he's Bill
- 11:57Belichick where like, I mean, he could retire if he wants it, but
- 11:59he's old now to a point where he's got all this money and he
- 12:01can't really enjoy his life that much, you know, whereas what is?
- 12:06HE303839 I'm not even, I don't even think he's 40 or he's close
- 12:10to 40. Like he might have just turned
- 12:1240 maybe. In fact, I'm just looking now
- 12:15actually, he has just turned 40, actually just a few days ago.
- 12:18Nice. But you know, like he's got,
- 12:23yeah, he's got another 40 plus years ahead of him, you know?
- 12:26Oh yeah, I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't in mind.
- 12:29I don't, I don't see him going to another team if I if that
- 12:32makes the question any better. I don't see him going to other
- 12:35teams. I think when he's finished at
- 12:36the Rams, he walks away into the sunset with all this money and
- 12:38he's really hot wife like. It'll be interesting.
- 12:43On it, yeah, it's just. Just a long nugget.
- 12:45It's just sort of been in my mind since obviously Sunday
- 12:47night and just like what does, what does it mean next?
- 12:50But I'm sure we'll unpick that a little bit.
- 12:53That's it. And Speaking of the Rams, we're
- 12:54making those balls of the week this week.
- 12:56We've only only been having two games on this week.
- 12:59We've only got 2 balls of the week and we'll be we'll be deep
- 13:02diving into these games in particular this this episode, by
- 13:06the way, guys, is more of a championship round episode.
- 13:09We're going to deep dive into the Super Bowl next week in
- 13:11particular in the preview for that next week.
- 13:13This week all about the championship championship.
- 13:17Remember that word, Brad? Championship round when we get
- 13:20into our second balls of the week.
- 13:21But the first one, over to you, my man.
- 13:24Who is it and what we got? Well, we have course got the
- 13:30Super Bowl happening Sunday night, just passed with the LA
- 13:35Rams falling short against the Seattle Seahawks.
- 13:40I mean, this has absolutely been the game of the year or, you
- 13:46know, it's up there with the other two games that they've
- 13:48had. It's just there's no other way
- 13:52to really describe the battle that these two teams have had.
- 13:58I mean, the back and forth, the Seahawks go up front first and
- 14:03then the Rams start bringing it back and take the lead and it's
- 14:05back and it's forth and it's back and it's forth the whole
- 14:08way through the game. It was just an absolute classic
- 14:12from start to finish. I mean, Donald had a career
- 14:16night, 346 yards, 3 touchdowns. We spoke about it last week
- 14:22about this, this story of Donald and I just love it for the guy.
- 14:27Absolutely love it. It was an absolute battle of
- 14:32offence as well, which is the weirdest thing.
- 14:35You know, Seattle's known this last year or two for its
- 14:39defence, like it's Smash Mouth defence and ultimately that is
- 14:42what the game came down to, didn't it?
- 14:44They had the big red zone stop and it won the game for them.
- 14:48But for both those players to have, I mean, just the stats,
- 14:52look at those stats on the screen.
- 14:54Now you've got, as I said, you've got Donald 346 yards, 3
- 14:57touchdowns. You've got Stafford 374 yards
- 15:00and three touchdowns. It's just an absolute battle the
- 15:03whole way through. I absolutely loved it from start
- 15:07to finish. Now, I won't lie to you, I
- 15:09watched this yesterday. I didn't watch it live.
- 15:12I wasn't staying up for reasons that I'm sure we'll get into
- 15:15shortly, but it was just, you can see where this is going,
- 15:19can't you? But.
- 15:21He was talking. About an absolute classic in
- 15:26every sense of the word. And I almost just feel not sad
- 15:31because the Super Bowl is always a great night.
- 15:33But I just, you know, I'm just imagining this as we do, you
- 15:36know, we we attend the same Super Bowl party and just
- 15:39imagine him watching this game with that atmosphere would have
- 15:44just been it'd have been electric and the game was
- 15:48electric. You know, it's just.
- 15:51Fully agree. Yeah, absolutely brilliant.
- 15:54Absolutely brilliant from start to finish.
- 15:56It was, it had it had a bit of everything in there.
- 15:58And again, I didn't stay up to watch the game.
- 16:01We watched the highlights. Just it is a stupid time for us
- 16:05a lot of the time. Is it the later games in
- 16:07particular? But it had that, that
- 16:10entertaining championship game factor behind it.
- 16:14It really did. And there's no, you know, the 2
- 16:16championship games were so chalk and cheese, and not just because
- 16:19of skull lines either. Just the way the games went and
- 16:23what happened within the games. But like this one, everything
- 16:26that was on the field was just, you know, JSN is something is a
- 16:31machine. There were a pass, right?
- 16:32And that there were a password. JSN brings it in one handed,
- 16:35right? When you deep dive and look at
- 16:37that pass, it's actually a no look pass from Donald.
- 16:41You put that in in the cheeks 2-3 years ago.
- 16:45It had been blown up on the Internet and I saw it being
- 16:48shared by some guy on on XI. Don't actually follow it.
- 16:50It was just a random a random tweet out there.
- 16:54It was, it was incredible to watch.
- 16:58And I agree what you're saying, that that was the Super Bowl.
- 17:03There's no two ways about it. And we'll get into kind of that
- 17:05in a little bit. But it was a Super Bowl quality
- 17:09game. It's what you want within the
- 17:11Super Bowl. But it did come with some
- 17:17questionable bits towards towards the back end.
- 17:19But again, starting a second with with with that.
- 17:22It's a special teams. I'm going to have my special
- 17:24teams again because I love it. But anything else from yourself
- 17:28on that? I just think it was like just
- 17:33the way that the ball was spread around amongst players on both
- 17:37sides, you know? Like there's a reason Stafford's
- 17:42quite possibly, I think likely maybe to be the MVP.
- 17:48And he did he he did have an absolute stormer of a game.
- 17:53You know, Devante was there for him.
- 17:56It was just it was just brilliant.
- 18:00You had Mevis who's kicking like the the 50 hour plus field goal,
- 18:04keeping them going, keeping them in the mix.
- 18:07And then on the flip side of that, you know, as you say,
- 18:11you've got JSN. The big one for me which really
- 18:13caught my attention was Cooper Cup.
- 18:16Yeah, like. There's some story there.
- 18:19Well, the obvious story there, but it's that storytelling
- 18:22within the game and it's, I love it.
- 18:24Like just little Nuggets like that.
- 18:25It was just from start to finish it was, it was just brilliant,
- 18:31like an absolute electric game. Entertaining to say the least.
- 18:35And we're going to touch into special teams now and I know
- 18:38we've we've battered on about this over the past couple.
- 18:41It feels like every week recently we've been saying
- 18:43something about how special teams can make or break your
- 18:47your game. And This is why it comes down to
- 18:49him. Xavier Smith had two muffed punt
- 18:54returns now. The first one he were lucky
- 18:57enough he dropped it and picked it back up.
- 19:00The second one he called a fair catch, fell backwards, dropped
- 19:05the ball. The Seahawks picked it up, put
- 19:07them in prime, prime position. They went and scored.
- 19:11I mean, it was it was 17 three at the time in the third quarter
- 19:14when this happened. I don't know what he was
- 19:16thinking when he did it. Just to if I just to explain, if
- 19:19you are listening to this and you're relatively new to the
- 19:20sport, If if, if we if my team punts the ball to Brad's team
- 19:25and Brad's team fair catches it waves the hand up in the air to
- 19:28walk away from where the ball is going to land.
- 19:30It hits the floor. My team picks it up.
- 19:34It's still Brad's team's ball because no one on his side of
- 19:36the ball touched it. Now if I kick it up in the air,
- 19:40Brad's team fair catches it, goes to catch it, drops the
- 19:44ball. That ball then becomes live on a
- 19:46punt. So if my team picks it back up,
- 19:49it's my ball from there, right? So as a coach and you know,
- 19:56research, Carl is is is also an assistant when it comes down to
- 19:59coaching special teams, the one thing we try and hammer in at an
- 20:02amateur level is if we try to move away from that ball, if
- 20:05you're all fair, catch it in a safe, safe spot, just move away.
- 20:08If you're not going to return the ball, just move away.
- 20:10Like you wouldn't risk in the biggest game of of your career,
- 20:14like up to lead to the biggest game of your career as well the
- 20:17Super Bowl. Don't risk it.
- 20:19What was he thinking? I mean, if that ball swirled as
- 20:21much in the air. Is it is it look to beef to make
- 20:25him move backwards and roll backwards and whatever he wants
- 20:30to try and catch the ball should move out the way.
- 20:32Your team would rather be on their one yard line moving up
- 20:35the field than giving the ball back on the 30 yard 20 yard line
- 20:38to go into the end zone. It is just that there lost in
- 20:42the game. It was 17 three third quarter
- 20:44which which then gets to a touchdown to make it 2413, which
- 20:47puts the momentum back in It's 2 score game, then puts momentum
- 20:51back in to to the Steelers hands.
- 20:54Actually Steelers sorry, I'm sorry the the Ram, the Rams, the
- 20:57Seahawks hands. We'll get my words out.
- 20:59Eventually. Yeah, I'll just name all the
- 21:01teams, but yeah, it that just blew my mind from that side of
- 21:06things. I mean, it's, it's basics, isn't
- 21:10it? It's absolute basics for them.
- 21:12And you know, maybe the pressure got to him.
- 21:15You know, it's like you say, it's the big one of the biggest
- 21:18games of his career. And the pressure does get to you
- 21:22in those situations, doesn't it? Like you can be as experienced
- 21:24as you want. You can be as composed as you
- 21:26want. But like the pressure does get
- 21:29to. And we've all experienced it in
- 21:30different avenues of life. But I think it just that that
- 21:36chain of events just gave Seahawks that little bit of room
- 21:39that they needed to be able to then control that fourth
- 21:41quarter, you know, sorry, the rest of the game from that
- 21:45point, really like. Yeah, third quarter was what it
- 21:49was. The fourth quarter had I think
- 21:51no points if memory serving, right, you know, and you added
- 21:56the Rams who had that late push, they had the long drive, was it
- 22:01like 7 plus minute drive and marched down the field, but they
- 22:05just didn't have the time. And there was the red zone stop
- 22:10and it was just, it's all ifs and buts, isn't it?
- 22:14Like, I'm a big believer and you can't blame one play.
- 22:17On. Again, and you know, we're going
- 22:19to have that same discussion point in the the Patriots
- 22:22Broncos game. I can, I can see it already, but
- 22:25you can't blame one play on losing the game.
- 22:27But it just shifts that momentum.
- 22:29It just gives that team that little bit of a, an opportunity
- 22:34to compose themselves and to to be able to control how the rest
- 22:39of that game goes. And, and when you've got control
- 22:40of the clock and you know, we know it's a game of chess, isn't
- 22:44it? So.
- 22:46It was a tough one. For him to swallow that.
- 22:48If you are an aspiring player and you're going to go play
- 22:51amateur or whatever in the UK, please, please just take notice
- 22:57of special teams because it can. It can literally lose your games
- 23:01in both this game and the next game.
- 23:03It can win or lose your games. It really can.
- 23:05But before we move on to the next game, I want to talk about
- 23:09chance and luck and fate, right? Rashid Sahid started the year at
- 23:18the New Orleans Saints. He's finishing the year going to
- 23:24the Super Bowl. Is that the trade of the trade
- 23:28deadline or what is that for? I can't think of a better
- 23:33progressional trade for a player like this year.
- 23:40I mean, he's got to be up there, hasn't it?
- 23:42Like he'll be absolutely loving life.
- 23:46It's it's, it's an interesting chain of events, the way this
- 23:49spot works and you know. Names who?
- 23:52Have I'm not saying like a name who's nothing, but like it's not
- 23:56you're not thinking, Oh my God, you're going to go out and get
- 23:58that guy. It wasn't like all the talk,
- 23:59obviously like like Tyree kill, where's he going to be by the
- 24:02trade deadline, obviously before he destroyed himself.
- 24:05But like it wasn't one of those names, was it?
- 24:08It was just a steady trade and. What happened happened.
- 24:13It came in last minute as well. Super Bowl, Yeah, that it came
- 24:16in last minute as well. And he's arguably played better,
- 24:20better games here. That has been performed a lot
- 24:25better. He just goes to show, you know,
- 24:27that player, all these players that play professionally are
- 24:30obviously very, very good at the job.
- 24:31But if they're in the wrong scheme and they're doing them in
- 24:33the wrong environment, Sam Donald's key for this.
- 24:38But yeah, anything else on the Rams and Seahawks game before I
- 24:42move on to our Game of the week? Not Ball of the Week, the Game
- 24:47of the week. The game of the week.
- 24:48That's an interesting take. The the only thing really I had
- 24:53is, and I don't know how much it did or didn't really
- 24:57particularly with this game, but how much home field advantage
- 25:01matters because you've got Rams and Seahawks who have been
- 25:06arguably or unarguably actually the best two teams in the league
- 25:09the whole way through from start to finish.
- 25:12And it was literally battling between those two teams who'd be
- 25:15the first seed in the NFC. And obviously Seahawks got that
- 25:19and they got their home home field advantage.
- 25:20And it's just interesting, like with the game this close and
- 25:23there's, there's no quantifiable data to show this is there?
- 25:27And but how much did that really matter?
- 25:32And I think adding to that, Seahawks struck first and got
- 25:35points on the board 1st and took that bit of a bit of a lead and
- 25:38a bit of an advantage gets the momentum behind the crowd.
- 25:42I don't know. It's just just a food for
- 25:44thought. All right, we'll expand on that
- 25:47a little bit, right. And let me just ask you a
- 25:49question back here and you're and this is just literally just
- 25:52coming to me now, the NFC has undoubtedly been the better
- 25:57conference this year with the more exciting teams in it,
- 26:01right? If it continues to go this way.
- 26:05And like you say, the, the the Rams, Seahawks was the Super
- 26:08Bowl as such, do the NFL look at a playoff structure very similar
- 26:17to like what college would be where you know, once you get to
- 26:20the playoffs, you then have bowls, for instance, like it
- 26:24could be an AFC bowl, an NFC bowl, just just for instance,
- 26:27like your championship games could be the top two teams from
- 26:30just something along the lines of and then you have a one and
- 26:34two seed that would get to the Super Bowl.
- 26:37So you could see the likes of Ramsey Hawks at the Super Bowl
- 26:41because they could, once it gets to the playoffs, you could then,
- 26:44you know, get your top however many teams, 12 teams, whatever.
- 26:48Concepts. I just think that concepts quite
- 26:51hard, isn't it? Because I think it's different
- 26:53at college because players will value the ball games because
- 26:56they're looking for exposure and they're looking for
- 26:58opportunities. I.
- 27:00Think in the NFL, you know, you're looking some players are
- 27:03still looking for that, but they're in the NFL, so they want
- 27:06to be the best. And now I you could argue it's
- 27:08still the best two teams, you know, XY and ZI just wonder if a
- 27:14are you taking away that reward for smashing it through the
- 27:18season? But on the flip side, what would
- 27:20be interesting is do you give home field advantage throughout
- 27:24the playoffs and then the championship game?
- 27:26You have at like a neutral venue, similar to what happens
- 27:30in football over here. You tend to get those neutral
- 27:32venues by the time you get to the semis, don't you?
- 27:34Or you do, you know, particularly in some tournaments
- 27:38within football and rugby, we we've experienced that as well.
- 27:42But how much of that then are you taking away the reward for
- 27:45grafting through the season and and keeping pushing to the very
- 27:47end to get that first seed? It's it's a difficult one.
- 27:51Neutral venue would be cool for me.
- 27:52I'd like neutral venue and kick off at the same time.
- 27:54And is it for a for a for like a a fan side of things?
- 27:58You have the choice of watching like, you know, Scott Hanson on
- 28:01red zone again for these two games back and forth, like in
- 28:04between. Or you can watch your own game.
- 28:06I think it'd be great because then you get to see who's in the
- 28:10who's in the Super Bowl at the same time.
- 28:12It just adds that bit of excitement towards it.
- 28:14But that was just again, just a bit of a, do they, do they have
- 28:17a real look at seeding to make the Super Bowl?
- 28:20You know, the 2IN form teams I should say, because you, you
- 28:26want to put the best team being Seahawks at the start of the
- 28:28year. Would you be in form all year?
- 28:29And they haven't dropped. Yeah, fair, fair comment,
- 28:33definitely. Right, Rams, Seahawks done
- 28:36dusted. We're now moving on to the balls
- 28:38of week #2 which is the New England Patriots at the Denver
- 28:42Broncos, finishing 10. Seven.
- 28:44Now look for the best example of a championship game.
- 28:50But the weather didn't help. And I will touch the weather a
- 28:52few times. But as I said in previous
- 28:54podcasts, it's the same for both teams.
- 28:57If you'd gone to bed and woke up the next night, the next
- 29:00morning, sorry, not watched any of the football, checked your
- 29:02phone, opened your NFL app up seen 10/7 and seen the fact that
- 29:06the winning quarterback goes for 10 for 2185 passing yards, no
- 29:11touchdowns, no interceptions, you think what the is this this
- 29:16pre season? Like what is what?
- 29:18What's happening here that we said?
- 29:21That was no passing touchdowns. I'm sure he was the only
- 29:24touchdown scorer of the patch. Yes, I'm just literally just
- 29:27about to go into that there. The only touchdown that had that
- 29:30that was scored with a nice little 6 yard touchdown from his
- 29:32QB Mr Drake, mate, right. And so he did, he did go into
- 29:36that. Now look, if you there were a
- 29:39screen, there were still getting put on the on the screen
- 29:42throughout the fourth quarter. I know you fell asleep at the
- 29:44fourth quarter. It's like there was there's
- 29:46still that got put on. I did from the first for the
- 29:49first to the fourth quarter, right?
- 29:51And the weather difference was unreal.
- 29:55I think it dropped to minus A at one point, right.
- 29:56It was absolutely balmy. So it all kind of came down to
- 30:00like the first half in particular for the, the, the,
- 30:04the points as such. But it came down with both
- 30:09defences realistically here earning the earning the the
- 30:12wage, both being put out there, who was going to put like stop
- 30:16it more than anything else. And the Pats, he kind of came
- 30:19out on top on that. Now, yes, don't get me wrong,
- 30:22there was a door Stidham in the backfield, right?
- 30:24Which look, I'm going to say this now.
- 30:27Stidham came out and I text my mate Jimmy, our mate Jimmy,
- 30:29right, plays what team? He's a Pats fan.
- 30:31I texted him after I through the first quarter saying we've lost
- 30:33this. We're bottling it because
- 30:35Stidham came out firing. He looked calm, he looked
- 30:38composed, he looked in control. He eventually went for, you
- 30:42know, 17, thirty, 133 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception.
- 30:46I have decent stats for the weather, right?
- 30:49That being said, the first, the first big issue that occurred to
- 30:56him, the shovel, the shovel pass, right?
- 31:00That will end up going as going as a fumble.
- 31:02He lost, he lost every he lost his momentum there and then,
- 31:05which look, Boenich would not have done that, would not have
- 31:09made that decision to do that pass which would which, which
- 31:13which led to the Patriots scoring, right?
- 31:16I'm not, I'm not I'm not disputing that.
- 31:17I'm going to touch on Bonex in just a second, right?
- 31:20He did come out and throw 133 yards in the in the -8 in the
- 31:25snow. It was first start in over 2
- 31:27years, like start anyway, you know, over 2 years in an NFL
- 31:30game, the first time he's ever been in the playoffs.
- 31:33And I was really impressed how he came out.
- 31:36But that composure did show. Now, I'm going to ask you here,
- 31:42Brad, and I know, I know what your answer is going to be with
- 31:44it already. But realistically, let's say,
- 31:48let's say the the Miami Dolphins was where the New England
- 31:51Patriots were there and then, right, realistically, does Bonex
- 31:57make much more of a difference because of the weather?
- 32:01100%. See, I disagree.
- 32:03I think I I don't. I echo everything you said about
- 32:09the star he had. And I texted another one of our
- 32:12friends who's a Pats fan, Johno, and all I sent him was a little
- 32:15meme, just a little face looking a bit cheeky and a bit smirky.
- 32:20And then another friend says if Pats win this, it's going to be
- 32:23our fault. Brad and I was just like, yeah,
- 32:26absolutely. We've got Callum chiming up in
- 32:29the background here. Obviously you can't see him, but
- 32:32he's absolutely echoing my thoughts.
- 32:35What you don't have with Stidham, what we've seen from
- 32:39Bonex, 2 things. You've got the composure which
- 32:41you've already alluded to, Zach, I don't think, I don't think
- 32:44Nick's makes those slight questionable plays, you know,
- 32:48or, or he executes them in a different way.
- 32:51You know, that that lateral pass which actually went backwards.
- 32:54So it was a fumble, which was crap that the referees blew that
- 32:57dead, by the way, you know. Yes.
- 32:59It's, it's frustrating, but you know, it didn't impact anything.
- 33:02Pat's converted. They got the touchdown that they
- 33:04should have had anyway. So nothing changed there,
- 33:07thankfully. But I think little things like
- 33:10that he maybe doesn't make. And even if he does what you've
- 33:14got in a game like this as as research, Cal's correctly saying
- 33:18you've got that Russian threat, which you just don't have from
- 33:21Stidham. Stidham's a pocket passer.
- 33:23You've got the Russian threat for him.
- 33:24You've got the composure, he's got the connection with the
- 33:26players like he's got the the the chemistry.
- 33:30And I just think in a game this close, like it obviously was
- 33:37close and the weather absolutely impacted it did.
- 33:39And I'm not going to shed away from that.
- 33:41You know, those that have listened for the last few weeks
- 33:44know my thoughts on this New England Patriots team, and I'll
- 33:46give them the flowers, like during the chuffing Super Bowl.
- 33:49Like, credit where credit's due. Yeah, my team's don't.
- 33:52My team's nowhere near it. So, like, fair play.
- 33:56And they've played some really good football.
- 33:58They have. But I just think with Nick's
- 34:03playing, it's a Broncos victory when it's a game this close.
- 34:07Like, I just can't. I can't shake away from that.
- 34:12See, I think that first, obviously we didn't score a
- 34:17touchdown afterwards and and and hindsight's a wonderful thing.
- 34:20And if books and maybes we we you know, you alluded to earlier
- 34:24on that you know, you don't really like doing them, but you
- 34:26know it happens with it. I agree.
- 34:29I don't think Knicks makes that shovel pass.
- 34:33I, I don't think, I think the exception at the end of the game
- 34:37to seal it for the Patriots was if, if Mike Vrabel has purposely
- 34:43put the Patriots all in white because he was due of Blizzard,
- 34:46he's the smartest man in football.
- 34:47I don't believe he did because a lot of the reports come back
- 34:49were that the snow or the, the weather wasn't forecast to be as
- 34:54bad as what it actually was. And I've listened to a lot of
- 34:56podcasts like these past couple of days just bouncing around the
- 34:59NFL as such. And they've all said, like, I
- 35:02checked the weather before and I weren't expecting the, the, the
- 35:04severity of what it was. I think still have looked up
- 35:07there not just not not seeing gonzo because of the because of,
- 35:11because of the, the snow that's absolutely battering around.
- 35:14And I think obviously that's the, you could tell you it see
- 35:18because it was just such a half ass pass.
- 35:21I, I agree with the rushing aspect of it.
- 35:26My flip side to the rushing aspect of that is perhaps I've
- 35:29got a pretty decent rush stop and they have done mostly I mean
- 35:34they held Denver to 79 motion yard this like yesterday alone,
- 35:37Sunday alone. I understand that Bonex weren't
- 35:39there and having that like you could send them into pass and
- 35:41you can escape out that very much Drake esque like feel to
- 35:46it. I get that.
- 35:48I think the game gets away and whatever the score like pretty
- 35:53much at halftime is, is kind of what's going to carry on going
- 35:55through just because of the weather now.
- 35:59I'm going to touch on a play really quickly now and I'm
- 36:01coming back to my boys, the special teams, the special
- 36:05teams, right? And how 1 minor mistake for the
- 36:08Broncos made them not score points.
- 36:13So there are 45 year, 45 yard field goal attempt that the
- 36:17Broncos went for, right? And Taylor, the third I think is
- 36:23comes through, gets fingers to it, taps it away.
- 36:27The athleticism there for for the the player of his size is is
- 36:31unbelievable. Now post game, Will Lutz comes
- 36:34out and says there's snow without thick on the field.
- 36:37I actually marked it. I got got me spotted to spot the
- 36:41ball a yard closer to the centre than I would have done normally
- 36:45by mistake because he couldn't see the yard marks on the floor.
- 36:48So if he had gone back a yard and been where he were, that tip
- 36:52would never that tip would have never have happened.
- 36:55I find that like, you know, just he'll be sat in bed tonight
- 36:59going like why don't I just why don't I just count?
- 37:01Like I know I'm just, I can't. Believe that.
- 37:04I just do not believe that for a second.
- 37:06Like I'm sorry, but these kickers, right?
- 37:09They literally and and I hate when people use this word but
- 37:12they literally have one. Job.
- 37:16Their job day in day out, all day every day is to kick field
- 37:20goals. I'm sorry but they don't need to
- 37:22see yard markers to know how far back they need that ball.
- 37:25That is absolute baloney to use an American.
- 37:29That's a load of rubbish. I am inclined to agree with you,
- 37:34right? I am.
- 37:35I just think it was just a great play from the Pats D Now let's
- 37:39talk a fourth down play again. We were we're we're in a group
- 37:43chat that briefly touched up on this 4th and one you've got the
- 37:48momentum because Stidham is playing well at the time.
- 37:52OK, was it the correct decision to go for it on that fourth and
- 37:56one or hindsight again is a wonderful thing.
- 38:01The conditions were after some they put them 10 nil up as RC to
- 38:05tell me to shift that and make it a 2 score game.
- 38:10Do you go for that field goal to calm, stood them down or what do
- 38:14you reckon? Absolutely.
- 38:16I think Peyton needs to own that.
- 38:19And I in that situation, like people can look at it in
- 38:23hindsight and hindsight's a wonderful thing, isn't it?
- 38:26I think at that moment that was absolutely the 100% right call.
- 38:31I think Stidham was marching. I thought New England looked
- 38:33terrible at the time. I don't think the defence was
- 38:36worrying him too much. They were marching down the
- 38:39field. They'd put points on before, you
- 38:42know, they'd had a big score, a big sort of deep pass to set
- 38:45them up for that touchdown. I think 100% it was the right
- 38:49call. What wasn't the right call was
- 38:51the actual play call. I think the play design was
- 38:54shocking and I think the fact that was the the time out, if
- 38:57I'm not mistaken at the time as well, it allowed New England to
- 39:01adjust and they sent like 6-7 big guys and they just flooded
- 39:07the space. I think.
- 39:09I think the call was the right call.
- 39:11I think the play call was quite clearly the wrong call.
- 39:16I fully agree with you there, mate.
- 39:18I fully, fully agree with you and as much as points mate, you
- 39:21know points get prizes. This or what this one the the
- 39:24first quarter this happened is not this went a fourth quarter
- 39:27decision to make this one early in the game stood and were
- 39:30driving and I just agreed. I just hit the run that I just
- 39:33think think the design play wasn't the one and I think the
- 39:40mix. Comes in handy though doesn't
- 39:42it? Like you've got 4 from 1 and
- 39:43with that threat of his legs you've got multiple choices that
- 39:46the D need to like, worry about then don't they?
- 39:49Which is understandable. It is is completely
- 39:51understandable. But Bonex were on that field
- 39:55still in war. So the Patriots go to the Super
- 39:58Bowl right now. I want to touch on something
- 40:04with you in now. You've been quite vocal about
- 40:07the Patriots schedule like everybody else has, because
- 40:10nobody could just give us credit, right?
- 40:14Yes, I admit stood in the leading right, stood in, stood
- 40:18in scores, like scores touchdown to create, create such down
- 40:21things like happy days. But there's people up against
- 40:24our offence as well. And that's a team, that's every
- 40:27team's defence. Now the Patriots have come up
- 40:32against three of the top five defences in the playoffs alone.
- 40:38Right, Come on. Right.
- 40:43I get, I get, look, I'm going to, I'm going to shoot my own
- 40:46argument in the foot. I get CJ Stroud would ask the
- 40:49charges. Offensive line wasn't the best
- 40:51at the time and I get that stadium a player and not bone
- 40:53it. But then they they don't play
- 40:55defence, they don't play defence like we've got guys running our
- 40:59guys and you could think about one of our one of our biggest
- 41:02weaknesses last year with the offensive line and it's still
- 41:05not fantastic now, but with March doing about 3 of the top
- 41:08five defences. Look, listen again, giving them
- 41:14the flowers. New England can have all the
- 41:16flowers they want. They're in the Super Bowl, They
- 41:18are representing the AFC, they're representing the AFC
- 41:21East. But look, they've still no, and
- 41:29I, and I stand by this, they've still not played a high quality
- 41:35team. And I'm emphasising here the
- 41:37word team, right? Because the NFL has three phases
- 41:41to it. The D that you've just referred
- 41:44to, they have the special teams, which you're saying has
- 41:48obviously played a big part. And then there's the offence,
- 41:52right? Let's just revisit LA Rams and
- 41:55Seahawks 3127. That's a combined points of 58,
- 42:02yeah. Defence didn't do the job.
- 42:05Simple you can. Argue that.
- 42:06You can argue that absolutely. But so I was having this
- 42:11conversation with a friend of mine earlier today, actually.
- 42:14So in the background, unbeknownst to you Zach,
- 42:17researcher Karl has been squirrelling away, finding some
- 42:21interesting stats. OK, OK.
- 42:25So when looking at playoffs, just the playoffs alone, because
- 42:28that's what you're talking about, yeah.
- 42:30Yeah. Go for these in DS right in
- 42:331979. So just just take that year into
- 42:38the head. 79 That's over 50 years ago.
- 42:41God that's crazy. The Rams made the Super Bowl and
- 42:47their average points per game throughout that playoff series
- 42:50was 15 points. So just to confirm, that is the
- 42:54lowest in history points per game that a team has made the
- 42:58Super Bowl. OK, I'm sure you can see where
- 43:01this is going. I can 2nd place Yep in second.
- 43:06Place you have the 2025 Pats with 18 points per game average
- 43:11through the playoffs. Like that is atrocious.
- 43:13They are going to get absolutely smashed to pieces next week
- 43:18fortnight. See, people have said this about
- 43:21the past couple of weeks and about happy about coming up
- 43:23against teams against certain calibre and things like that.
- 43:26Now, look, couple of things to say back to that, if a lot and
- 43:30I'm not, I'm not going to go into the Super Bowl Naive, by
- 43:32the way. I understand what's against us.
- 43:35Trust me, because I've backed pretty well and I've like other
- 43:38than other than in our predictions when we spoke about
- 43:41the games coming up, I've said I think the Patriots will probably
- 43:44lose. I've just backed my boys because
- 43:45they're my boys. I've, I've been open and I've
- 43:47not been naive about that. If the Patriots beat the
- 43:51Seahawks, what's your excuse then?
- 43:53What's the excuse then? Do we do a lucky?
- 43:55Because there will be, there will be an excuse.
- 43:57There will be. Yeah, there will Sam Darnold
- 43:59seeing. Ghosts exactly, exactly.
- 44:03And the next one to this right, obviously, yeah, 3127 up a great
- 44:07game, you know, 10-7. We've we spoke about it's in
- 44:10rugby terms. Sometimes you can get a 22IN
- 44:12rugby. It's been one of the best games
- 44:13you've watched. It's been a defensive battle,
- 44:15but yeah, but this one, Yeah, but he's causing more.
- 44:19These were. These were a defensive box.
- 44:20It's snow. But anyway.
- 44:22And listen, quite literally, put me to sleep.
- 44:25It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter either way.
- 44:28But because if Lewis Hamilton wins by a millisecond or a
- 44:30second or 10 seconds or a minute, he still won.
- 44:33And that's what we did. We won.
- 44:35That's why we're in the Super Bowl.
- 44:37I'm all for it now. Look, I don't want to talk too
- 44:40much Super Bowl because I want to wait until next week.
- 44:42I don't want to get too irate about it until next week.
- 44:45I art daft, all right, but we'll go for it from there, right.
- 44:51So let's have a look at his predictions.
- 44:53Let's have a look at where we stand from this week alone
- 44:56because I believe. Yeah, there we go.
- 44:58It's on screen now. So me and Research Carl both
- 45:01backed the Seahawks to be the Rams and then all three of us
- 45:05backed New England to beat Denver because of the obvious
- 45:08reason, which for the week, we've got a nice little graphic
- 45:12here, which for the week puts us at 1:00 and 1:00 for you Brad,
- 45:15and then two and O for both me and Carl.
- 45:16Now next year, guys, we will talk about this behind the
- 45:19scenes next year. I think we're going to do a bit
- 45:21of a running total going forward and what I might do is we might
- 45:27set like a bit of a bit of a way for you guys to get involved as
- 45:29well. So we can be like US versus you
- 45:30guys as well. See get you you as a collective,
- 45:33get you as a poll. I can get a poll on the go.
- 45:35And to do that, get yourselves over to all the socials at ABNF
- 45:39pod everywhere you want to go. Got it right.
- 45:42Look and check them all out. Head over to YouTube to see all
- 45:45the graphics and things as well. Guys, if you are listening in
- 45:47your vehicle or or without the the video there, Spotify and
- 45:51YouTube have these go hit follow and all that jazz.
- 45:53Keep up to date with everything right?
- 45:57Predictions done. We've spoke about this week.
- 46:00We're going to save the Super Bowl for next week.
- 46:06I reckon we should roll into a bit of stats that sound vague.
- 46:12How do you reckon? How about we hit all of the
- 46:17balls first? All the balls, I'm up.
- 46:20It's got all the balls to go. Yeah, I'm OK.
- 46:22Right. All right, fair enough.
- 46:25Right. All the balls, Brad, take it
- 46:28away. What is all of the balls and
- 46:30what we got in store for the this one?
- 46:33So all of the balls is where we hit the latest news stories in
- 46:37the world of sports. And as I said at the top of the
- 46:40show, they don't always include balls or they have slightly
- 46:43misshapen balls. And you could kind of say the
- 46:45same about our first story because they have 4 slightly
- 46:50weird shaped squished balls. If we're using your analogy
- 46:54about the puck last week, you could argue.
- 46:57Yeah. I would like to call you out on
- 46:58that. Yeah, Yeah, it's a very ideal
- 47:00link. Gotta give me that one.
- 47:03I'll give you that one. I'm of course talking about the
- 47:05the F1 season, you know, so if you're into F1 or you, you're
- 47:10into Motorsports in general, obviously Formula One is the
- 47:14arguably the the biggest sport in the world of motorsport.
- 47:19And this week sees the launch of pre season testing.
- 47:23So we've started having a few liveries sort of been revealed
- 47:28and I'm sure we'll touch on that because that's definitely the
- 47:30sort of superficial world of the F1, but it it seems to be one of
- 47:35the biggest parts of the pre season.
- 47:38But I think this year alone, well, it does.
- 47:41It's a fact. Has seen the biggest changes
- 47:44ever, all at one second. Oh, you're a big Formula One
- 47:47fan, just as I am. Yeah.
- 47:49Do you fancy taking us through those changes a little bit?
- 47:53So where, where, where do we start with them to be fair, Like
- 47:59they've brought in the regulation changes.
- 48:02So they're all on the same engineering now out there.
- 48:03They've they've tweaked that engineering now.
- 48:05So everyone's kind of running a very similar one there Mercedes.
- 48:09So with with with the power units, they get know if I like a
- 48:13season or two seasons in advance where it's going to change.
- 48:16It's like Mercedes, for instance, who've been on the
- 48:19back burner for the last two years because they knew where
- 48:21they were going to be at to kind of get ready for this now to
- 48:23then go out and and and smash it from where it is there and the
- 48:29tests are kind of going out there in Barcelona to get shown
- 48:33from it. They're all running in wheels
- 48:34now as well out there the the like flat facing wheels.
- 48:40Yes, it's really interesting, isn't it?
- 48:41Because like obviously you mentioned the engine and now
- 48:43you've dropped on the wheels. But it's, I think it's the first
- 48:46time ever or definitely in a long time that the engines
- 48:50changed, The regulations around the engines changed, the
- 48:52regulation about well, the wheels have changed, but then
- 48:56also the actual chassis requirements have changed as
- 48:58well. So like all three things have
- 49:00changed at once. So I know sometimes you might
- 49:03get 2 or you might just get one, but all three have changed at
- 49:07the same time. So it's it's quite an
- 49:11unprecedented season really where you're going to see a lot
- 49:15of change. I mean, you've got 2 new teams
- 49:16on the grid. You got Audi and Cadillac now on
- 49:20the grid, but then you've got a host of teams now running their
- 49:25own power units, their own engines basically, which are
- 49:305050 split, I believe. So previously it was a slightly
- 49:35less electric import, but now it's a 5050 between the electric
- 49:39and the like combustion engine, much bigger battery.
- 49:43And the way that's deployed is different as well, isn't it that
- 49:46power, the way it's built and deployed?
- 49:47It's, it's weird. It's.
- 49:49Interesting. You normally find when like when
- 49:51a powertrain or an engine unit gets kind of redone, you know,
- 49:54they find like Mercedes have planned to do this year, like
- 49:59Red Bull did it last time. There were a bit there were a
- 50:00big change over. And when that's when like
- 50:03Verstappen went from being and and Mercedes bought all the exit
- 50:071 basket for that, that 2021 kind of, you know, season where
- 50:12Verstappen end up taking it towards the back end of it.
- 50:15But then the year after Mercedes didn't keep up with it.
- 50:18So the the the gap were massive and they're trying to do all
- 50:22this now to kind of like bring that gap down and and limit that
- 50:27gap between the top three. But it was the top three.
- 50:31The top three are now changed. It used to be like Red Bull,
- 50:33Mercedes, Ferrari, Ferrari in our argument out of that McLaren
- 50:37into that because of the season that they had last year, because
- 50:39of the research that they put into it.
- 50:40But I mean, for me, I for me, I won't tell them until end it.
- 50:44Yeah. As to what's going to be brought
- 50:45in regulation wise, because you can, it's very similar with like
- 50:48the American football team start tanking because they know
- 50:52they're not going to do anything this year.
- 50:53So they're kind of putting all the R&D to next year.
- 50:55But the flip side to it is the need to finish at a certain
- 50:58like, like a certain position to have the money.
- 51:02And that's where like Mercedes have lacked over the past couple
- 51:04of years, whether they've not been finishing, you know,
- 51:07arguably that top spot or top two, depending on what you know,
- 51:10the years and not be getting as much money in as compared.
- 51:13So it's it's just been tough for him and having to find that
- 51:16money elsewhere. But I mean, I'm looking forward
- 51:18to it. What makes me laugh, though, is,
- 51:21is the fact that William just haven't got a car.
- 51:23He's not there. He's just not there.
- 51:29How do you how do you this this date is the same every year.
- 51:34Well, you've got this team, haven't you?
- 51:35Like Williams is probably one of the most historic teams in
- 51:40Formula One. You know, alongside like, you
- 51:42know, you think of Formula One, you think Ferrari, like you
- 51:45know, they're they're there to have been there from season 1.
- 51:47But then right alongside him, you got Williams like they've
- 51:49had some major success. They're obviously British team
- 51:53and it's like, how can you not have a car at this testing?
- 51:58And this testing's so vital, isn't it?
- 52:00Because a lot of it's behind closed doors because of all
- 52:03those changes and everything. There's no media, so there's no
- 52:08like publicity around the timings.
- 52:10There's no live TV. So essentially anything we've
- 52:12been fed is either through like people hiding in bushes trying
- 52:16to get little bits of video footage on the phones or what
- 52:19the teams want us to know, which is obviously not, I guess, but
- 52:25for Williams just not to show up, What they're going to
- 52:27experience is going to the next round of testing.
- 52:32And, you know, you might have Red Bull, Mercedes, Audi,
- 52:36whoever really struggling this week.
- 52:39But that's what this week's about.
- 52:40Little interesting analogy you've kind of got like this
- 52:43week's about sort of just checking like reliability more
- 52:48so than how quick the car is and you know those little nuances.
- 52:52It's kind of like NFL pre season reps.
- 52:55They're more concerned about the reps They're not concerned about
- 52:57the score line. And I think it's quite a nice
- 53:00comparison there. But yeah, it's imagine imagine a
- 53:03team having no pre season games. So you you speak about.
- 53:08The the reliability side things now I, I tend to not watch too
- 53:13much testing just because it doesn't give you it doesn't give
- 53:17you an accurate representation because no, no team ever goes
- 53:20out and puts 100% into the car because they don't want to give
- 53:22anything away yet. But Ferrari when I had.
- 53:26A really bad lead they. Decided poor year last year,
- 53:29especially the Hamilton side of the of the pod act.
- 53:30And it they just, they just, they shoot themselves in the
- 53:35foot every single time, every mistake, 90% of the mistakes
- 53:39that Ferrari make, it's an error on their behalf, whether it's
- 53:42the pit wall or whether it's the, the racing plan or the
- 53:44whatever it is, their engineer is always that no one their
- 53:48fault. They go out this, you know, in
- 53:50the practise, I saw something and the, the, the car just
- 53:52didn't work. Like it just didn't work all.
- 53:55And then they then they put a statement out somewhere saying,
- 53:58Oh yeah, we were meant. It were meant to do that.
- 54:00We knew we were going to do that.
- 54:01Well, why are you putting out on track and getting it recovered?
- 54:03If you knew we were going to do that like you, you just
- 54:06wouldn't. It's just ridiculous.
- 54:09Isn't it like it's so ridiculous.
- 54:11They've almost become a bit of a running joke.
- 54:13And then I mean, it's, I feel, I feel for Lewis and I know he's
- 54:17very much, I think a divided character or a divided opinion
- 54:21on him, you know, But did he go to Ferrari?
- 54:26Because it's Ferrari and it's that boyhood dream.
- 54:28I think. So.
- 54:29Like, like I said, when you think Formula One, you think
- 54:31Ferrari, but also he's getting paid a whacked tonne of money.
- 54:34So did he go for there for the money?
- 54:36You know what, probably both, let's be honest.
- 54:39I mean, he won't. He won't shy a lot with two of
- 54:41his headies. Wouldn't he?
- 54:43No, not at all. And, you know, last.
- 54:45Year I had a miserable season. And he was quite bluntly honest
- 54:47about that, but it was just laughable when you hear some of
- 54:50the radio comms that he had to deal with or not deal with
- 54:52because the guy never spoke. But they've gone out and they've
- 54:56rooms. Are they pulling someone from
- 54:58McLaren? What's it?
- 55:00Yeah. They've got a new race engineer
- 55:01for him now. Yeah.
- 55:02So I couldn't I couldn't take the name.
- 55:03But yeah, see how see how this season goes, I guess.
- 55:06But. Let's talk the superficial
- 55:08level. What have you seen of deliveries
- 55:11and, and what's your. I think I'm saying that right?
- 55:13It's always a word. I've struggled with livery.
- 55:15Yeah. What's your favourite?
- 55:17I I see, I like. I like the.
- 55:19I like the Mercedes 1. I've always torn with that
- 55:23Mercedes 1. I like how it's not Mercedes
- 55:27don't even go for Silverado or the full black one right.
- 55:31And I like how this is a bit of both as after that sounds
- 55:34because I as much I like the Silverado, it's never my
- 55:37favourite aesthetically. Like I always prefer the the one
- 55:42that's normally all black, for instance, and I just really like
- 55:45the fact that they're kind of gone with this 5050 there for me
- 55:51every year rolls in one of my favourite liveries on a on a on
- 55:55a on a car or on a team is the racing bulls.
- 55:58I think the racing bulls always do a better job than what the
- 56:00Red Bulls do, but the racing bulls livery is always always,
- 56:04always just wonderful. But.
- 56:08They're they're the two of us. On out to be the most.
- 56:10I love that you mentioned the Red Bulls and Racing Bulls
- 56:13aren't too much. Better for this this year It's
- 56:14like I'm not sure Red Bull can fit any more sponsors on theirs.
- 56:19Like it's just a really fast page of.
- 56:23Words driving. Around the around the track,
- 56:26it's it's crazy, yeah. Just be a list soon.
- 56:28Just be a list going down. I mean 11 obviously that I was
- 56:32really. Excited to see, you know, a lot
- 56:35of Audi's a big name, obviously Cadillac's the other one, two
- 56:38huge brands and Audi particularly a massive name in
- 56:42motorsport outside of Formula One.
- 56:45They enter Motorsports and a few years later they win and they've
- 56:50openly said like, you know, we're not, we're not going to
- 56:52compete this year, like it's the first season, but 20-30, we want
- 56:55to be winning, we'll be winning championships.
- 56:57So they've been an interesting 1.
- 56:59And when we're talking about the aesthetics, I've loved
- 57:01everything they've put out, like the racing suits.
- 57:03I think I did a suits, really simplistic design, love it.
- 57:08The branding that they've put out, love it.
- 57:11And I was really excited to see deliver it.
- 57:13And then I saw it and I was a bit like, oh, OK, it's
- 57:19minimalist. It's just three block colours.
- 57:21I'm not too sure. And me and a friend of mine, we
- 57:24always chat about Formula One. And so every day we've got like
- 57:27the calendar. So every day we're like, oh,
- 57:29have you seen this one? And we were both a bit flat
- 57:31about audit. And then I saw a video of it on
- 57:33track and it just looked stunning on track.
- 57:37It looked absolutely, but little is more in it.
- 57:40I. Definitely.
- 57:41I've probably been the most distant than I have in the past.
- 57:4710 year. On Formula One this year and
- 57:50it's not, it's not because of lack of interest.
- 57:53He just from lack of time on on it.
- 57:55I'm going, I'm going to the I'm going to the Austrian GP this
- 57:59year. I can't, I can't wait my first
- 58:00time going. I genuinely can't wait to go.
- 58:02And I'm looking forward to kind of seeing them all live now with
- 58:06the Audi Cadillac thing. And as much as I agree with you
- 58:09with Audi Motorsports and and and what they plan to do, what
- 58:11they try and do and with. With the Formula One.
- 58:17Is so much R&D as it is about like driver choice and I get and
- 58:23I know that sounds really obvious, but if you put Red Bull
- 58:28show on this, if you put loads of money into a car, but you
- 58:30don't put that right driver, it's like it's like it's like
- 58:32Sam Donald put Sam Donald a bad team.
- 58:35He's not going to take him to the Super Bowl.
- 58:37Put him in a good team. He's going to do you need to
- 58:38have that right driver fit for it.
- 58:40And I think their biggest choices now is not going to be a
- 58:42case of like and with formula, it's so money orientated.
- 58:45Like a lot of the drivers buy their seats in teams like they
- 58:50need to look at, yeah, who's given us the money to kind of
- 58:53come and join U.S. team. But at the same time, who's
- 58:55right for who's the right fit for the team?
- 58:58So only time will tell. I I can't remember the last time
- 59:02I saw a team actually actively join rather than just rebrand
- 59:07like AR rebranded and things. I can't an actual team joining.
- 59:11I can't remember the last time I saw one joining, and it'd be to
- 59:16me as well. There's been a bit of press
- 59:18about it, but there's not been like, it's not been hammered.
- 59:21Oh, my God, This is what how do they do?
- 59:22This is what Cadillac are doing. It's just been, oh, yeah,
- 59:24there's two new teams in that. We're going to crack on with
- 59:27usual proceedings. Yeah.
- 59:28I think it'd be interesting being like, obviously Cadillac.
- 59:31Been a big American brand and obviously the the Formula Ones
- 59:36had a massive push in the States over this last five, 6-7 years.
- 59:41I think is it 3 races we've got now in the States, which makes
- 59:43sense because it's a huge landmass, isn't it?
- 59:45And we've got on that in Europe. So be interesting though just to
- 59:50see how much attention Cadillac gets.
- 59:53I think delivery is one of the last ones to be released.
- 59:56And I think it'll be, I think F1 will give a big push then
- 1:00:00because this is this new market that they're really trying to
- 1:00:02capture. And I think Netflix has done a
- 1:00:04lot of that, hasn't it, with the Drive to Survive show, which
- 1:00:08starts soon, I think. Is it in about a month?
- 1:00:11Yeah. And like that massively helps
- 1:00:13them. And then now they've got more
- 1:00:14races, obviously, one being at Hard Rock Stadium, the other one
- 1:00:17on the Vegas Strip, and then the other one in Texas.
- 1:00:21Is it Austin? Yeah, Dallas.
- 1:00:22Austin, right. Yeah, Sorry.
- 1:00:23Yeah, Dallas. Austin Yeah.
- 1:00:26So like it'll be interesting to. See how that goes.
- 1:00:28But yeah, I think it's going to be a really exciting season
- 1:00:30actually. I'm really looking forward to
- 1:00:31it. Yeah, I can't wait.
- 1:00:33I can't wait. And and with the season.
- 1:00:35Being in our offseason with the with the NFL, we'll be talking a
- 1:00:38bit more about Formula One and other sports like that.
- 1:00:42So yeah, get ready. Get ready for that.
- 1:00:45So nice. I like it.
- 1:00:47I'm getting excited for it. I actually, I've been a bit
- 1:00:49behind on it, I must admit back. I'm looking forward to getting
- 1:00:52stuck back into it. You're going to jump into my all
- 1:00:55the balls. And I'm talking about two big
- 1:00:59balls, bigger balls than I could ever imagine me having, right.
- 1:01:06And they are owned by a man named Alex Harnold, right?
- 1:01:12Have you, have you heard, have you heard this name?
- 1:01:14Have you seen, have you watched it?
- 1:01:15Right. I didn't know his name, but I've
- 1:01:17seen it. It's impressive.
- 1:01:19So I watched this yesterday. I saw it.
- 1:01:22I didn't watch. It live.
- 1:01:23I watched it yesterday. It's Netflix live streamed Alex
- 1:01:27Harnold climbing the top is is is perhaps taupe.
- 1:01:31I think the taupe tower it's taupe 101 right?
- 1:01:35It's 101 floors feet, 508 metres tall and he free climbed this.
- 1:01:41No ropes, no no safety, just a bag of chalk on his back and he
- 1:01:47set off climbing up the side at building right.
- 1:01:50What got me is the fact that Netflix streamed it live. 1
- 1:01:55wrong move and he's gone right. The contingent to plan there and
- 1:01:59the health and safety, they must have gone through the paperwork
- 1:02:02they must have gone through to get this going because this side
- 1:02:04of this building weren't just like flat.
- 1:02:06They had these weird things on corners and so it will like like
- 1:02:14so much higher. And then there were these, they
- 1:02:16were called 7 bamboo shoots or something and they were like
- 1:02:20slanted going out. So we'd start on the bottom bit
- 1:02:23which like in and as you were climbing out, you were
- 1:02:26overhanging the floor. And you do that seven times
- 1:02:29also. But then I get to the top and he
- 1:02:30got the spy a bit and this bit blew my mind and like, I'm not
- 1:02:33fantastic with heights, but I'm watching.
- 1:02:35So, you know, it's not, not really, I'm not doing it.
- 1:02:38He gets like the top bit and there's these like 7 or 8 rings,
- 1:02:42right? And they're on this Spire, these
- 1:02:44rings, and they go progressively from smaller to bigger to
- 1:02:48bigger, then back up to smaller to smaller, like a big kind of
- 1:02:50like the circular sort of shape. And he gets to like the one
- 1:02:54that's the furthest out, our second furthest out.
- 1:02:58And he's climbing up, resigning, right?
- 1:03:01And he hooks his feet around this ring takes both of his he's
- 1:03:05at top at tower, bearing in mind pretty much he takes both his
- 1:03:09hands off, just puts his hands down, rests them for two like
- 1:03:1230. The car strength there right is
- 1:03:16unbelievable. This one he climbed in an hour
- 1:03:19and 31 minutes. So I think he's like an hour and
- 1:03:2115 minutes, an hour and 20 minutes into this because he's
- 1:03:23really close at the top. His arms are aching, but his car
- 1:03:25strength to hold him up. I just I just couldn't believe
- 1:03:29it. But then the the camera work had
- 1:03:34these cranes installed and there's these guys hanging from
- 1:03:38like 1890 floors up in the air just hanging on like a swing
- 1:03:43like a just one cable coming down or one wire coming down
- 1:03:46swinging bomb on the camera just following like went up up the
- 1:03:51side of the building mental I. Like get like anxiety when so.
- 1:03:58So I went to New York for the first time, not last summer,
- 1:04:02summer before. So I've always wanted to go.
- 1:04:05They really look to see a lot of America and they've just not
- 1:04:07done New York. So I was buzzing when I was
- 1:04:09there and I'm looking at some of these buildings and it doesn't
- 1:04:12do it justice when you see it like on TV and things like, are
- 1:04:14you like, Oh my God, this city is insane.
- 1:04:17And then we're looking at the like the window cleaners, you
- 1:04:20know, come down on this sort of like plain things.
- 1:04:24I'm just like, Oh my God, I always absolutely kick my pants
- 1:04:26doing that. And I'm I'm all right with
- 1:04:27heights. I'm not, It's never really
- 1:04:29bothered me. I've not a humble brag, just a
- 1:04:32brag. I've jumped off the tallest
- 1:04:34building in the Southern hemisphere.
- 1:04:35I'll have you know, twice. So like amazing experience.
- 1:04:40Auckland Sky Tower if you're wondering.
- 1:04:42But like I'm looking at it like I would absolutely cack my
- 1:04:47pants. Obviously when we did Auckland
- 1:04:48Sky Tower, you're all strapped in.
- 1:04:49It's basically like a, you've got bungee cords attached to you
- 1:04:52and all that sort of malarkey. This guy has nothing.
- 1:04:55Absolutely nothing. I don't know.
- 1:04:58Have you ever tried climbing before?
- 1:04:59Have you, have you been climbing?
- 1:05:00Have you done that? Rock climbing?
- 1:05:01Yeah, I've loved the rock climbing walls and things, but.
- 1:05:04Yeah, and it's like even that, like the little Hooverhangs you
- 1:05:08sometimes get. There and you know, you when
- 1:05:11you're doing the, the free climbing, like the bouldering
- 1:05:13and you've not got your harness and stuff and you, you're still
- 1:05:15a bit like, oh God, I don't want to fall even though these
- 1:05:17massive crash mats and I'm only like a metre high.
- 1:05:20You know, this is just nuts. That fools me because like, I
- 1:05:24watch it and. They're like viewing platforms
- 1:05:27in this tower. So like every so many floors,
- 1:05:29there's just crowds of people taking pictures of him while
- 1:05:32he's climbing up this this window.
- 1:05:34And he had he had some earphones.
- 1:05:37In that they were. Playing that he made a playlist.
- 1:05:40They were playing music in his ear to concentrate tool.
- 1:05:43What is artist of choice they were listening to growing up?
- 1:05:48Climbing up. Sorry, but they also had radio
- 1:05:51communications. So he got to like certain.
- 1:05:52Checkpoints. And they were interviewing him.
- 1:05:55Are you feeling? Yeah, No, dear, I was there.
- 1:05:56I'm like, this guy's super calm and he's at the top.
- 1:05:59He's like, oh, I'm getting a bit tired now, but I just crack up
- 1:06:02and then your next checkpoint is like, well, I might take my
- 1:06:04T-shirt off because it's just just getting it away and me
- 1:06:07chalk bag. And I'm like this guy's his,
- 1:06:09his, his arms, his forearms are like pulsing.
- 1:06:11They're just massive. And yeah, hey, look, credit
- 1:06:15where credit's due to my. It was.
- 1:06:17It was something I never thought I'd see live on TVI thought you
- 1:06:20could even make a documentary about it, whatever.
- 1:06:22But a live show was was absolutely mental.
- 1:06:31But yeah, it's it's just wow to have the kahunas to do this is
- 1:06:42it is beyond me. But yeah, that is my all other
- 1:06:46balls for this week. We have got a couple of
- 1:06:50features. Oh, thank you.
- 1:06:53I. Enjoyed Alex's balls as.
- 1:06:54Well, I must admit it's, it's been one of them.
- 1:06:57But we're going to, we're going to swiftly move on and we're
- 1:07:00going to get into our two features for this week.
- 1:07:03In fact, I think let's just read you a little bit.
- 1:07:06Let's get into Carl's conundrum. I want to know the answer to
- 1:07:08this, right? So if you don't know what Carl's
- 1:07:11conundrum is, guys, basically we ask you a question week in week
- 1:07:16out that researcher calls found or, or, or asked, shall I say,
- 1:07:22for you guys to get involved with.
- 1:07:23Very, we had a couple of comments actually on our, on our
- 1:07:26Spotify feed about this. So it'd be nice to kind of get,
- 1:07:29get stuck in with. So let's have a look, shall we?
- 1:07:36OK, so. I can see the answer now, Brad,
- 1:07:39because the. Slide's been popped on my screen
- 1:07:40and you can't. But I'm very surprised about
- 1:07:43this. Anyway, last week's Cow cow's
- 1:07:47conundrum was which current NFL head coach has more career
- 1:07:52rushing yards than Bo Jackson? And the answer was a Mr Jim
- 1:07:57Harbaugh. Jim Harbaugh?
- 1:08:01Yeah. That was that.
- 1:08:04Yes, it was. It was.
- 1:08:07I didn't. I didn't never guess.
- 1:08:10To be fair to you, I didn't even think we did play with him by
- 1:08:14the day. I'm sure he was a quarterback.
- 1:08:18Yeah, so I mean like so it must have been.
- 1:08:22He must have. Yeah.
- 1:08:24I that's, that's wild to think about that.
- 1:08:26So well done if you got it. I know, I know.
- 1:08:29We had a couple of coverage. Well done if you got it.
- 1:08:32I'd like to get you blood to your brain ticket.
- 1:08:34We'll move on to the Carl's conundrum for this week to go
- 1:08:39into it. So again, guys at ABNF Pod, if
- 1:08:42you want to get involved with this or if you're watching this
- 1:08:43on YouTube or Spotify, feel free to drop a comment and let us
- 1:08:46know on this. Carl's conundrum for this week
- 1:08:50is the Cleveland Browns quarterback.
- 1:08:52Should Sanders was voted to the Pro Bowl as an alternative this
- 1:08:56week after the New England Patriots made the Super Bowl.
- 1:09:02Don't ask me the review on that, but we'll get into it anyway.
- 1:09:04But the question is, who was the last Browns quarterback to make
- 1:09:08the Pro Bowl? So I'll repeat it one more time
- 1:09:11for you. So you get this Cleveland Browns
- 1:09:13quarterback shoulder Sanders was voted to the Pro Bowl as an
- 1:09:16alternative this week after the New England Patriots made the
- 1:09:19Super Bowl. But who was the last Browns
- 1:09:22quarterback to make the Pro Bowl?
- 1:09:24If you've got any ideas guys, let us know in the comments
- 1:09:26please, or drop us a message. We will be processed onto our
- 1:09:29socials as well now. Pro Bowl I want to touch on next
- 1:09:37week more. Anything else?
- 1:09:39But how on earth he's got there is beyond me.
- 1:09:45It is absolutely. It is criminal and it's all.
- 1:09:49About his publicity. And he's, and he's marketed is
- 1:09:53why he's there. One of our friends, one of our
- 1:09:56friends said earlier, didn't they?
- 1:09:57Is Sanders going to be able to like Sanders probably going to
- 1:10:00throw an interception in the like quarterback only skills
- 1:10:05tests? Like it's just, it's just barmy.
- 1:10:10It's just barmy. Like you could list 567.
- 1:10:15No, you could. List most.
- 1:10:16Quarterbacks who played better than should know this year.
- 1:10:19Like, I mean, fair play. He's a rookie, you know, and he
- 1:10:21had some good moments. He had some very nice like one
- 1:10:24off throws. Credit to him.
- 1:10:25But like the guy is not one of the top.
- 1:10:29What would it be top 4 was it couldn't tell you to be fair.
- 1:10:35I try. I I the one that's gone.
- 1:10:36I think he went in for Drake May, didn't he?
- 1:10:38I think. Yeah, because, yeah.
- 1:10:41So like he's not up there. He is not up there at all.
- 1:10:45It's Barmy. Let's yeah, let's not get into
- 1:10:48this now because yeah. So just to repeat that.
- 1:10:52One, who was the last Browns quarterback to make the Pro
- 1:10:55Bowl? Let us know in the comments
- 1:10:56below, guys right, we're going to move on to our last feature
- 1:10:59for the evening and that is stats that sound fake, but one
- 1:11:04of them is real. So with this.
- 1:11:08We have. Tasked research account to go
- 1:11:11find us a very obscure start from this weekend from the
- 1:11:17Championship games, and he's bumped it into a bit of a bit of
- 1:11:21a slide for us and he's masked it with two other stats that are
- 1:11:24completely bogus and we have to guess which one is the real 1.
- 1:11:31So let's have a look at these, shall we?
- 1:11:34Brad? Can you see them?
- 1:11:35Have you got them on your side as well?
- 1:11:38So the first one the Broncos became.
- 1:11:42The first team this century to start a different quarterback in
- 1:11:47the conference championship than they did in the divisional
- 1:11:50rounds. So the Broncos became the first
- 1:11:52team this century to start a different quarterback in the
- 1:11:54conference championship than they did in the divisional round
- 1:11:58is our first start. OK, so first in this century.
- 1:12:09So research account, just for clarity behind the scenes.
- 1:12:13When you say this century, do you mean as in in the 2000s or
- 1:12:16do you mean within the last 100 years?
- 1:12:19I'm assuming it's since 2000. Just getting that clarity.
- 1:12:23Yeah. First team in the 2000 and 2000.
- 1:12:26Perfect. Zach, do you want to take the
- 1:12:28second? One would Seattle's win.
- 1:12:32It is the first. Time that a team has played in a
- 1:12:35Super Bowl at a divisional rivals home stadium.
- 1:12:39So with Seattle's win, it is the first time that a team has
- 1:12:42played in a Super Bowl in a divisional rivals home stadium.
- 1:12:49Interesting. And then for the last.
- 1:12:52One then in the AFC. Title game.
- 1:12:56There were the most missed field goals in Championship round
- 1:13:01history. Interesting topic by the way.
- 1:13:06Allow the. Focus of these.
- 1:13:08RC Yeah, see, I'm drawn on 2. I'm drawn on 2 and I'm not going
- 1:13:15to lie to you, I'm literally going to go a 5050 vote and just
- 1:13:18hope. I hope I guess right I'm.
- 1:13:25In my head. In my head, I'm eliminating.
- 1:13:28The middle one I. Couldn't quote if a team.
- 1:13:33Has played in the in the the divisional rivals at home
- 1:13:38stadium. But in my head probably happened
- 1:13:41somewhere. I don't know why, but it made it
- 1:13:42probably happen somewhere. The Broncos 1 is what's what I'm
- 1:13:45favoured with the most at this moment because.
- 1:13:47So hang on, is that middle one then?
- 1:13:49Not the real one We're trying. To find the real one, right?
- 1:13:52Yeah. So I yeah, so I don't I.
- 1:13:55Don't think that's real, I think.
- 1:13:57There's been more. I think it's happened.
- 1:13:58This is not the first time, all right?
- 1:14:01So I don't think it's the first time.
- 1:14:02I don't think that's real. I Yeah, sorry, I'm with you.
- 1:14:04Yeah, I think I'm. I'm towing towards the Broncos
- 1:14:09becoming the first team to start a different QB.
- 1:14:12So I'm trying to think of a QB that got injured and came in.
- 1:14:18When did when did falls come in? This is that's that's.
- 1:14:22What's throwing me off? That's what's throwing me off.
- 1:14:25When did falls come in? He's the only one that I can
- 1:14:29think of. Although is there like, is there
- 1:14:33a little nuance to this one that it doesn't actually mention
- 1:14:37anything obviously about the Super Bowl because Broncos
- 1:14:39didn't make it to the Super Bowl, did they?
- 1:14:40So are we just thinking Falls because he was a big story and
- 1:14:44he went to the Super Bowl? Yeah, but what's what happened
- 1:14:48before? What's striking on that is a
- 1:14:50foals. Tweeted out.
- 1:14:52Didn't he saying like, don't worry, they've got a bit of
- 1:14:54losing to backup QBs in big games like so that this is title
- 1:15:02game? I like this Callum.
- 1:15:03I like it and I hate it at the same time.
- 1:15:05Yeah, you've thrown me off there.
- 1:15:08It's like. A really boring start, I'm
- 1:15:10sorry. And I know you're a kicker,
- 1:15:12Callum, but this is a really boring start.
- 1:15:15But it's believable because believable because of the
- 1:15:18weather. I I can't think.
- 1:15:20In fact, you know what? I'm locking it in.
- 1:15:22I'm locking. The third winning because you'd
- 1:15:24think about there were three missed field goals, right?
- 1:15:27It doesn't say anything about it, doesn't say anything about
- 1:15:29extra points there, but there were three missed field goals
- 1:15:32attempts in that game in the AFC.
- 1:15:36Game that's that's a. That's a large number to be
- 1:15:38missed in one game, but do you not think like back in like the
- 1:15:4170s, sixties? 50s when like surfaces were
- 1:15:45horrendous and the weather was a bit silly.
- 1:15:48Like, do you not think that that's probably happened before?
- 1:15:54I'm, I'm struggling. I'm really struggling with this
- 1:15:57one. You know what, I'm just going
- 1:16:00for it. I am saying the middle one is
- 1:16:04the real stat. Right.
- 1:16:11So you're saying middle, I'm saying.
- 1:16:13Last, right, So just for the audio listener, just for the
- 1:16:17audio listeners I am. Saying with Seattle's win, it is
- 1:16:19the first time that a team has played in a Super Bowl at a
- 1:16:22division rivals home stadium. And Zach, you are saying in the
- 1:16:26AFC title game, there were the most missed field goals in
- 1:16:28championship round history? Yeah, that's exactly what that
- 1:16:33that's that's. Yeah, research, Carl.
- 1:16:36Which one's real? The first one.
- 1:16:41The one that I said, oh I hate this.
- 1:16:45So much. So the start one that were real,
- 1:16:48the audio list is once again, the Broncos became the first
- 1:16:50team this century to start a different quarterback in a
- 1:16:53conference championship game than they did in the divisional
- 1:16:57game. Hey, just on on this one as
- 1:16:59well. I see these best be real, by the
- 1:17:01way, because you've been called out.
- 1:17:03We've been having messages about you, by the way, but where are
- 1:17:05you finding new facts from? So these best be right now.
- 1:17:08You'll be getting built. Yeah, you've been found out with
- 1:17:10some of your research, Mr. Research, Yeah.
- 1:17:12Ah, so he's saying here KC played the.
- 1:17:15Raiders Stadium 2. Years ago, of course they did.
- 1:17:18It's so obvious. Once you hear it, it's like,
- 1:17:20yeah, so. Carl, when did when did fall
- 1:17:24start? Then if it wasn't the
- 1:17:25championship round, was it divisional round or was it even
- 1:17:28before that? Like Oh my, well that's so
- 1:17:31frustrating. That is so I even.
- 1:17:34Think. He started the.
- 1:17:38Last three games, he said. Wow, it's.
- 1:17:40It's crazy. How would you mind gets like
- 1:17:42tainted? Isn't it because?
- 1:17:43All you think about is. That Super Bowl, Yeah, yeah, I
- 1:17:48remember watching that Super Bowl.
- 1:17:49Jesus, but that brings us to the end of the episode, matey.
- 1:17:56So again, we're focusing next week on the Super Bowl, Mike
- 1:17:59Dutch on the Pro Bowl. I think we've got an extended
- 1:18:02look on the Super Bowl and two Super Bowl teams next week.
