- 0:55Pretty simple and straightforward.
- 0:56It takes just a second for you, but it makes a huge difference
- 1:00for the show. Thank you.
- 1:02Mr. Speaker, I rise today to speak directly about the the
- 1:10nation's preeminent anti poverty program for the elderly and the
- 1:15nation's preeminent anti poverty program for children, something
- 1:21that Congress needs to focus on and so does the administration.
- 1:29You could imagine how many Americans, whether they're here
- 1:31today or listening at home, when they heard over the weekend that
- 1:36Elon Musk, the wealthiest man in the world, the billionaire, said
- 1:40that Social Security is a scam. It's a Ponzi scheme.
- 1:47That Ponzi scheme that assists over 70 million Americans is
- 1:56hardly a Ponzi scheme, nor is it a scam.
- 2:03What the real scam is, is to tell the American people that
- 2:09you need $2 trillion and assigned that to a billionaire
- 2:19who has no accountability, did not have to go through Senate
- 2:25approval, is not a government employee, isn't even a
- 2:32volunteer, and yet he is placing his will on a Republican LED
- 2:42Congress in both the House and Senate.
- 2:46All that's needed is 3 Republicans to stand up and say
- 2:53no, wait a minute, this is not what the nation needs.
- 2:59We do not need to cut Social Security benefits.
- 3:04We need to enhance them. Mr. Speaker, as you're aware, in
- 3:10your district alone there are 189,000 Social Security
- 3:18recipients who haven't received an increase in more than 50
- 3:22years. There are 147,000 retirees,
- 3:2920,000 disabled workers, 8700 widows, 3700 spouses and 9000
- 3:41plus children who are depending upon Congress to fulfill its
- 3:49responsibility and job. And furthermore, a fact that
- 3:53most members don't realize. And in your district, Mr.
- 3:57Speaker, in Minnesota, you get $325 million monthly that comes
- 4:07into those Social Security recipients.
- 4:10It hasn't been adjusted in more than 50 years.
- 4:15It's long overdue for Congress and for the citizens of this
- 4:21country to demand of their Congress that they take a vote,
- 4:27that they let the people know where they stand and whether
- 4:32they're going to stand with them.
- 4:35And the nation's number one anti poverty program for the elderly
- 4:40and children. Or you're going to stand with
- 4:43Elon Musk and Trump to make sure that $2 trillion gets cut so
- 4:52that it can make way for further tax cuts for the nation's
- 4:58wealthiest 1% at 500 billion Plus, you would think Mr. Musk
- 5:05might say, hey, you know what? This is a great nation that has
- 5:09provided me these great opportunities.
- 5:12How about we care for them the same way this nation has cared
- 5:18for us? He won't lose a moment's night
- 5:22sleep, but for more than 40 million Americans, Social
- 5:28Security is the only benefit that they have.
- 5:32They will be losing sleep over the fact that they're worried
- 5:37about, whether it's in Minnesota or Connecticut, whether or not
- 5:41they're going to be able to get their benefits, the thing they
- 5:45rely on to put food on their table, to heat and cool their
- 5:50homes. This is no extravagant item that
- 5:55people are asking for. This is something they have
- 5:59earned and they've paid for in their government continues not
- 6:05to act and respond the way that they should do.
- 6:08Mr. Speaker, we need a vote. You owe it to your people.
- 6:12We owe it to ours. Let's have a vote and give these
- 6:17individuals the gentleman's time has expired.
- 6:19They need I yield back. Hey, thank you so much for
