- 0:54Speaker 1: It is the NFL's one hundred and third season, and
- 0:58Speaker 1: we are two days away from kickoff in that building
- 1:00Speaker 1: right over here. Welcome to a Tuesday edition, a week
- 1:03Speaker 1: one Tuesday issue of NFL Now on NFL Network. From
- 1:07Speaker 1: our news room in Los Angeles. My name is Andrew Ceciliano. Again,
- 1:11Speaker 1: reports from the Rams and from the Bills coming up shortly.
- 1:14Speaker 1: We begin, however, with news out of Pittsburgh, news that
- 1:18Speaker 1: we kind of sort of knew was coming because the
- 1:20Speaker 1: Steelers released a depth chart yesterday, a depth chart that
- 1:23Speaker 1: had Mitch Trabinsky a top as the number one quarterbacks.
- 1:27Speaker 1: That was confirmed today. He is the guy and he
- 1:31Speaker 1: will be starting Week one when the Steelers opened up
- 1:35Speaker 1: on the road against the defending a f C champions
- 1:40Speaker 1: or context on this point now, as Mike Tomlin step
- 1:43Speaker 1: for the votium for our first Tuesdays, what's Tom joining us?
- 1:48Speaker 1: Our insiders, Tom Pila, Sero, Mike Garret follow knew right now, Um,
- 1:54Speaker 1: it wasn't exactly shocking news, Mike. They kind of played
- 1:58Speaker 1: their hand yesterday when they released the depth chart. They did,
- 2:03Speaker 1: and that depth chart had a little bit of an
- 2:05Speaker 1: edit today as uh Kenny Pickett was bumped up the
- 2:09Speaker 1: number two Mason Rudolph previously listed in the two. That
- 2:12Speaker 1: was a clerical error that Mike Tomlin mentioned, We were
- 2:15Speaker 1: told the same look for a new depth chart. Anyway,
- 2:17Speaker 1: Let's just talk about the guy at the top of it,
- 2:19Speaker 1: because yes, it is official official, Mitchell Travisky going to
- 2:23Speaker 1: be the Steelers starting quarterback. And look, I I think
- 2:27Speaker 1: he's got a legitimate chance here too, you know, ride
- 2:31Speaker 1: the wave a little bit here. They do start with
- 2:34Speaker 1: a relatively tough schedule. They've got the Bengals Week one,
- 2:38Speaker 1: but I'm just I'm sensing he's gonna have a little
- 2:41Speaker 1: bit more rope than maybe some people expect. I know
- 2:43Speaker 1: Kenny Pickett was sensational in the preseason. Mike Tomlin talked
- 2:47Speaker 1: about once he got into live stadiums, his progress picked
- 2:50Speaker 1: up even more. They loved the way that he responded.
- 2:52Speaker 1: It didn't look too big for him. But I know
- 2:54Speaker 1: that they're ecstatic about Mitchell Travisky and what he's done
- 2:58Speaker 1: in the locker room and on the playing field. And
- 3:00Speaker 1: when I say in the locker room, he was voted
- 3:02Speaker 1: captain yesterday, that vote was done by the players. So
- 3:04Speaker 1: the player is their endorsing Mitchell Drobisky, and the coaches
- 3:07Speaker 1: are endorsing Mitchell Robinsky. It's not like as soon as
- 3:10Speaker 1: he throws his first interception he's gonna be out of there. Toime,
- 3:13Speaker 1: I think he's got a shot to leave this team
- 3:15Speaker 1: for at least a little bit to the early part
- 3:17Speaker 1: of the team. And this was one of those quarterback
- 3:20Speaker 1: competitions Mike, where Mr Bisky lead it wire to wire
- 3:23Speaker 1: before they ever played a preseason game. If they had
- 3:25Speaker 1: to go out and play a week one right then
- 3:27Speaker 1: it would have been Trobinsky get to the end of
- 3:28Speaker 1: the preseason. It's still him. But let's be very clear here,
- 3:31Speaker 1: Kenny Pickett made things close. He came on really quickly
- 3:35Speaker 1: throughout the course of training camp here. So there'll be
- 3:37Speaker 1: one of those situations to monitor as always. At what
- 3:40Speaker 1: point would it make sense for the Steelers to go
- 3:42Speaker 1: to Penny Kenny Pickett on a team that has so
- 3:45Speaker 1: much money invested in the defense, and they've got a
- 3:47Speaker 1: young running back in Naji Harris, and they think that
- 3:49Speaker 1: they've got wide receivers and they're figuring out the offensive line.
- 3:53Speaker 1: All of which is to say, this does not have
- 3:54Speaker 1: to be a quarterback driven team. They can win games
- 3:57Speaker 1: with defense and running the football and making enough play
- 4:00Speaker 1: So I thought it was notable when Mike Tomlin said
- 4:02Speaker 1: that they are very comfortable with Mr Bisky. Comfortable in
- 4:06Speaker 1: other words, I at least took that to me. This
- 4:08Speaker 1: is not a guy who is going to give games away.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Not that Kenny Pickett would, but certainly when you've got
- 4:13Speaker 1: a rookie and a veteran who are pretty even, it
- 4:16Speaker 1: makes sense for a team like this the things that
- 4:18Speaker 1: it can compete to go with the veteran, at least
- 4:21Speaker 1: in the short term and that will also. By the way, Andrew,
- 4:23Speaker 1: make this the first time in fifteen years, since two
- 4:26Speaker 1: thousand seven, that we have not had a rookie quarterback
- 4:29Speaker 1: starting Week one. That was the JaMarcus Russell Brady Quinn draft,
- 4:33Speaker 1: So it has been a while since we've had all
- 4:35Speaker 1: veterans starting while, Um, you stole my one more thing
- 4:38Speaker 1: two hours from now, I put it in slack. You're
- 4:42Speaker 1: not on slack, No, I'm just in the game here.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Andrew tweaked one training camps over. You think you can
- 4:50Speaker 1: save something two hours into the show. Well, I've got
- 4:53Speaker 1: news for you, buddy. We're doing in the a's. I
- 4:55Speaker 1: took it. Figure something else tweeted it this morning. I
- 4:58Speaker 1: stole it off. Read it. By the way, and by
- 5:00Speaker 1: the way, I hate slack. I was just trying to
- 5:03Speaker 1: be you know, week one, oh my, try to get
- 5:05Speaker 1: the word baseball. Yeah, as we're getting ready for football
- 5:09Speaker 1: too much inside baseball. I will say this two things
- 5:12Speaker 1: real quick. Number One, Tomlin said he's only going to
- 5:14Speaker 1: address two quarterbacks, So Mason Rudolph is going to be
- 5:16Speaker 1: an active on game. Number two, Tom is that a
- 5:18Speaker 1: new suit though? I like it? It is? Yeah? New?
- 5:23Speaker 1: Right now? Jacket right now. Tom, Thank you guys. We
- 5:30Speaker 1: are two days away and we're two minutes in and
- 5:33Speaker 1: our day off the rails as well, Bills and Rams. Yeah,
- 5:35Speaker 1: Stefon Diggs, Aaron Donald. There will be football. There will
- 5:39Speaker 1: be coaches talking about football as well. I think we've
- 5:44Speaker 1: got a good team. Um. They obviously have a good
- 5:47Speaker 1: team of the defending world champs. Um. You know, we'll
- 5:50Speaker 1: be playing at their place, and it'll be some unknowns
- 5:53Speaker 1: on both sides of the ball, um, both sidelines. And
- 5:56Speaker 1: I think that makes for an interesting game and two
- 5:59Speaker 1: good teams, two competitive teams going at it in the
- 6:01Speaker 1: first game of the season. I think it would be
- 6:03Speaker 1: great for the fans at home and should make for
- 6:05Speaker 1: an interesting game, and I think one that our team
- 6:08Speaker 1: is ready for, and I'm sure they feel the same
- 6:09Speaker 1: my other team. It's gonna be fun, you know. I'm
- 6:11Speaker 1: pretty sure it's gonna be loud. Um. The last time
- 6:15Speaker 1: we was really out there laugh lave battle was you know,
- 6:18Speaker 1: it was in the Super Bowl. So be able to
- 6:20Speaker 1: get back and so far I get back on that
- 6:21Speaker 1: field and I actually play a game on it, It's
- 6:24Speaker 1: gonna be fun, you know. So we definitely gotta go
- 6:26Speaker 1: out there and play a good team and trying to
- 6:29Speaker 1: find a way to win. Um, so I'm expecting for
- 6:32Speaker 1: it to be loud and we're gonna have some fun Outdude.
- 6:35Speaker 1: It should be loud. Rams playing their last game at
- 6:38Speaker 1: the building in which they played the Super Bowl, the
- 6:40Speaker 1: next game where they played the last game. Get what
- 6:42Speaker 1: I'm saying here, We got both teams cover. James Palmer
- 6:45Speaker 1: has the Bills. Kayla Burton has the ramp today live
- 6:48Speaker 1: in Thousand Oaks. Kyla, let's start with you. Good news
- 6:51Speaker 1: is Matthew Stafford is okay? Right, Rams have like a
- 6:55Speaker 1: giant sign there saying there is nothing to see. Yeah,
- 6:58Speaker 1: And as you mentioned, good news there. We are two
- 7:01Speaker 1: days out before the Rams open up the season again
- 7:05Speaker 1: the Bills for starters. It has been hot out here,
- 7:08Speaker 1: but the players they're ready to rock. They are so excited,
- 7:10Speaker 1: ready to go four week one. And as you mentioned, Andrew,
- 7:13Speaker 1: a whole lot of the attention has been this off
- 7:16Speaker 1: season on quarterback Matthew Stafford in that right elbow. He
- 7:20Speaker 1: got the injection. He was limited during the off season
- 7:23Speaker 1: much of the off season, so of course that's him.
- 7:25Speaker 1: A whole lot of questions daily he was asked, how
- 7:28Speaker 1: is that elbow? How is that elbow? But recently he
- 7:31Speaker 1: was asked the same question. He knew it was coming.
- 7:33Speaker 1: He had a smirk on his face, saying, guys, the
- 7:36Speaker 1: elbow is great. I'm feeling great. I feel like I
- 7:39Speaker 1: can make every pass. And he says that there will
- 7:41Speaker 1: be quote no limitations. Come Thursday, We're gonna be seeing
- 7:45Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford take the playing field for the first time
- 7:47Speaker 1: since winning Super Bowl fifty six. And let me tell
- 7:50Speaker 1: you this. We all know he and head coach Sean
- 7:53Speaker 1: McVeigh in their first year together, it looked pretty darn good. Well,
- 7:56Speaker 1: even better news coming their way because Sean McVeigh says
- 7:59Speaker 1: there's even more collaboration, more experience between the two, and
- 8:03Speaker 1: McVeigh adds that Stafford does just such an incredible job
- 8:06Speaker 1: of making sure everyone is on the same page. And
- 8:09Speaker 1: I'll leave you with this, there should be a lot
- 8:10Speaker 1: of confidence brewing here in this locker room, considering head
- 8:13Speaker 1: coach h McVeigh is five and no in week one
- 8:15Speaker 1: has never lost an opener here as the Rams head coach.
- 8:19Speaker 1: On the bill side of things, there's James Palmer. James
- 8:23Speaker 1: no limitations for Matthew Stafford, but might have some limitations
- 8:26Speaker 1: at corner here for the Bill's defense, what's Sean McDermott
- 8:30Speaker 1: is saying about a couple of rookie corners, Andrew We
- 8:33Speaker 1: know this was the number one defense a season ago,
- 8:35Speaker 1: number one defense against the past a season ago, but
- 8:38Speaker 1: at the same time, it is a new year, and
- 8:40Speaker 1: you're right, there are some new faces. We're gonna see
- 8:43Speaker 1: two rookie corners playing this game in their first round
- 8:46Speaker 1: pick higher Elam and he's going to kind of had
- 8:50Speaker 1: an up and down. I would get training camp in
- 8:51Speaker 1: a sense when I spent some time with the Bills,
- 8:53Speaker 1: But then sixth round pick Christian Benford out of Villanuova,
- 8:56Speaker 1: they've really liked, I'm told what he's been able to
- 8:58Speaker 1: do in just a few moments ago. Sean McDermott didn't
- 9:01Speaker 1: say he was going to really name either one a starter.
- 9:04Speaker 1: They're gonna play both of them as well as Dane Jackson,
- 9:06Speaker 1: and the three corners are gonna play in the perimeter,
- 9:08Speaker 1: and my senses, they're gonna get an idea as this
- 9:10Speaker 1: game goes on about how guys are playing, how the
- 9:13Speaker 1: matchups are going, and kind of play it by year
- 9:15Speaker 1: with the three of them as this game progresses, because
- 9:17Speaker 1: we know how good Matthew Stafford in this passing attack is.
- 9:20Speaker 1: What they do believe is going to help both of
- 9:22Speaker 1: these rookie corners is that safety do what they have
- 9:25Speaker 1: that's one of the best in all of football. And
- 9:27Speaker 1: Jordan Poyer, who they expect to play, and Sean McDermott
- 9:30Speaker 1: said it just a little while ago, and Micah Hide.
- 9:32Speaker 1: They believe those two safeties can calm things a bit
- 9:35Speaker 1: for these rookie corners, can help them out, get them
- 9:37Speaker 1: a step going in the right direction prior to the
- 9:40Speaker 1: snap because of as good as they are, but also
- 9:42Speaker 1: what helps a secondary right Andrew is your pass rush
- 9:44Speaker 1: and obviously the addition of von Miller and this group
- 9:47Speaker 1: getting after Matthew Stafford and making sure they don't bring
- 9:50Speaker 1: pressure with blitzing and without a hundred and thirty nine
- 9:53Speaker 1: passer rating against the blitz the season ago, so you
- 9:56Speaker 1: know you can't bring pressure with the blitz. You have
- 9:58Speaker 1: to get pressure on Matthew Stafford bringing four that's where
- 10:01Speaker 1: he's had some of his turnovers, you know, sixteen interceptions
- 10:04Speaker 1: he threw lead in the NFL when he wasn't Blitz.
- 10:06Speaker 1: These young corners need some help with that pass rush.
- 10:09Speaker 1: They also were getting some help from that safety duo
- 10:11Speaker 1: as well. Palmer, thanks for wearing uh, you know, not
- 10:14Speaker 1: wearing shorts today. That would have been uh you know
- 10:16Speaker 1: the yeah man, good thing it wasn't yesterday. Professionals, James Paulmer,
- 10:22Speaker 1: Kayla Burton, take you both with the Bills and the Rams.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Let's get to the bucks. Uh. There's that Tom Brady
- 10:29Speaker 1: guy the practice field is he and the Bucket Ears
- 10:32Speaker 1: get ready for the Cowboys Sunday. Yesterday we heard Brady
- 10:38Speaker 1: in depth on his podcast about his decision to come
- 10:42Speaker 1: back at the age of well, I just felt like
- 10:47Speaker 1: I had a little left and I want to give
- 10:49Speaker 1: it a shot, and I owed it to my teammates
- 10:52Speaker 1: and uh, our great coaches and organization. We built something
- 10:56Speaker 1: pretty special here in Tampa the last few years. You know,
- 10:58Speaker 1: the competitive fire still burns, and I want to get
- 11:01Speaker 1: out there and I want to have a great season
- 11:02Speaker 1: for everybody, because there's a lot of people that have
- 11:04Speaker 1: supported me a lot in the way. And I've always
- 11:05Speaker 1: felt like I I played for the name on the
- 11:08Speaker 1: back of my jersey, and I played for the name
- 11:10Speaker 1: on the front of my jersey, which is the Bucks
- 11:12Speaker 1: and my family. It's gonna be a challenge. I would
- 11:15Speaker 1: definitely say that's and and every team's challenge at different
- 11:18Speaker 1: times in the years. So you know, you deal with
- 11:20Speaker 1: injuries early, you deal with injuries late, you deal with
- 11:22Speaker 1: them all year. But it's gonna be like all players.
- 11:26Speaker 1: You know, no one makes every I certainly don't make
- 11:28Speaker 1: every throw great. I don't make every red great. You
- 11:31Speaker 1: know I've thrown plenty interceptions. You know, you can't expect
- 11:34Speaker 1: these young tight ends or young running backs or young
- 11:37Speaker 1: linemen to get everything right because they're going up against
- 11:39Speaker 1: a lot of great players, and those great players are
- 11:41Speaker 1: gonna challenge them. So it's gonna be a I'm expecting
- 11:44Speaker 1: great things from our our whole unit. All right. So
- 11:48Speaker 1: there is Tom Brady as he's doing his Monday thing
- 11:50Speaker 1: once again this season with Larry Fitzgerald and with Jim,
- 11:55Speaker 1: Greg Tompolo. Serah, Mike care Fullo back with me. A
- 11:57Speaker 1: lot to unpack there. Let's start on the old line,
- 11:59Speaker 1: tom um Brady saying he's kind of using this as
- 12:02Speaker 1: motivation people doubting the soul A lot I mean down
- 12:05Speaker 1: to get there are a lot of injuries and a
- 12:06Speaker 1: lot of people have left. No question Andrew, when Tom
- 12:11Speaker 1: Brady says he hopes that they're taking some things to heart,
- 12:14Speaker 1: you're really hoping that between some of the veterans and
- 12:17Speaker 1: the younger players now who are going to either be
- 12:19Speaker 1: thrust into expanded roles or maybe have more pressure because
- 12:22Speaker 1: they're not having the guys they're used to having on
- 12:24Speaker 1: either side of them, that they can find a way
- 12:27Speaker 1: to dig deep and realize you've got a four or
- 12:29Speaker 1: five year old quarterback who likes to step up in
- 12:31Speaker 1: the pocket, not escape out the back, and he's gonna
- 12:34Speaker 1: need some help. But if you just look at this
- 12:35Speaker 1: entire Bucks roster, there's very little question that the offensive
- 12:39Speaker 1: line is going to be the biggest question mark going
- 12:41Speaker 1: into this season because you have Ali mar Pet retires,
- 12:44Speaker 1: Ryan Jensen, who was the absolute tone center at the
- 12:47Speaker 1: center position as a knee injury. Maybe they get him
- 12:49Speaker 1: back toward playoff time, but even that's not a guarantee.
- 12:52Speaker 1: You've had Aaron Stinny go down with a torn a
- 12:55Speaker 1: c L and toward mc L Robert Hainze replaced. Jensen
- 12:58Speaker 1: got nicked up recently. Those sounds like he dodged a
- 13:00Speaker 1: bullet and there. Hopefully he's been out there week one,
- 13:02Speaker 1: But that's the situation that they're in right now. They've
- 13:05Speaker 1: got to protect a quarterback who's not you know, a
- 13:07Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Mitch Drabinsky, get outside the pocket.
- 13:11Speaker 1: If things break down in front of you, he's going
- 13:13Speaker 1: to need that protection and that's gonna be a challenge
- 13:15Speaker 1: for Tampa's not Mitch Drabsky. Yeah, I get that. As
- 13:18Speaker 1: for the big picture stuff, you're a little more that's true, true,
- 13:23Speaker 1: I get Michael a little more in depth. As to
- 13:26Speaker 1: Tom Brady whorry, you know his headspace, I guess right now, Um,
- 13:31Speaker 1: a lot of people are I think this is odd
- 13:34Speaker 1: to be like criticizing him for opening up, yet at
- 13:36Speaker 1: the same time we've always criticizing him for not opening up.
- 13:39Speaker 1: He's forty five, he's kind of being more transparent now.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I don't mind it. I don't mind it at all.
- 13:46Speaker 1: It makes him certainly very relatable. And we're talking about
- 13:49Speaker 1: how early in his career, when he was twenty five
- 13:51Speaker 1: years old, it was nothing but football. But now he's
- 13:55Speaker 1: got a family of his own, even talked about his
- 13:57Speaker 1: parents as well. That's a big part of his life.
- 13:59Speaker 1: They as they continue to age as well. Um, and
- 14:04Speaker 1: I understand that. I mean when I when I started
- 14:06Speaker 1: out in this business and I was just covering the
- 14:08Speaker 1: giants for the Star Ledger here in Jersey, all I
- 14:11Speaker 1: did was focus on that job. Well, now I've got
- 14:13Speaker 1: a wife and a family of my own. I got
- 14:16Speaker 1: two kids. They're running around outside somewhere right now. So
- 14:20Speaker 1: we're all dealing with that. It's just only one of
- 14:22Speaker 1: us is the starting quarterback for the Buccaneers, one of
- 14:25Speaker 1: the Super Bowl UH contenders here that's got to now
- 14:28Speaker 1: figure out a way to manage all of that stuff
- 14:31Speaker 1: that clearly took him away from training camp recently while
- 14:34Speaker 1: also being as good as he has been over the
- 14:36Speaker 1: course of his career. We all have our questions, and
- 14:39Speaker 1: we all saw his demeanor at that press conference, and
- 14:42Speaker 1: we know how much he has put in to being
- 14:45Speaker 1: successful over the years and how much importance he puts
- 14:48Speaker 1: on preparation to now take ten days away from the
- 14:51Speaker 1: middle of the training camp. I think we're all waiting
- 14:53Speaker 1: to see how is this going to look? Is this
- 14:55Speaker 1: still going to be the Tom Brady that we have
- 14:57Speaker 1: seen over the course of his career. It's one of
- 14:59Speaker 1: the intriguing storylines in the NFL this year. Uh Tampa
- 15:03Speaker 1: Bay and everybody down there can tell you, at the
- 15:05Speaker 1: very least to tell you they are not concerned about him. Tom.
- 15:09Speaker 1: We shall see. I thought Mike was about to really
- 15:13Speaker 1: pull back the curtain on his personal life there, but
- 15:15Speaker 1: much like Tom Brady just pulled it back at the
- 15:17Speaker 1: last second and let us wonder, But exactly what's going
- 15:20Speaker 1: on in Hoboken. Listen, if we're talking about training camp
- 15:23Speaker 1: here and you've got people reading to Tom Bryan, you're
- 15:25Speaker 1: going for a stretch, what's going on with his body
- 15:27Speaker 1: language and everything else when you get to the game.
- 15:31Speaker 1: So let's see what Tom Brady looks like. And they're
- 15:33Speaker 1: gonna be tested right out of the gate. They're going
- 15:35Speaker 1: up against the Cowboys defense. That's very creative. They've got
- 15:37Speaker 1: some really good pass rushers who were gonna get after
- 15:40Speaker 1: that makeshift offensive line for the Bucks. What's Tom Brady
- 15:43Speaker 1: gonna look like when you get into the regular season.
- 15:45Speaker 1: That's going to be the ultimate metric here. As much
- 15:48Speaker 1: as Tom Brady has now taken over the mantle in
- 15:51Speaker 1: the NFL of the player who we know way too
- 15:53Speaker 1: much about Even though we don't know the half of
- 15:56Speaker 1: what's going on most of the time, it's still something
- 15:58Speaker 1: where again, all this analysis through the off season comes
- 16:01Speaker 1: down to one thing, which is is Tom Brady after
- 16:03Speaker 1: retiring on retire, leaving camp, come back to camp, everything
- 16:07Speaker 1: else ready to play in week one, everything about his
- 16:09Speaker 1: history and football. Andrew would say, yes, Tom Brady will
- 16:12Speaker 1: be ready. I think he will be ready. Thank you, guys.
- 16:17Speaker 1: We're getting old Mike Yardy Campbell coming up, old von Miller.
- 16:23Speaker 1: That's not his age, but he is coming back to
- 16:27Speaker 1: face his former team on Thursday. What do they have
- 16:30Speaker 1: in store for him? That's straight ahead, win, win, win win.
- 16:37Speaker 1: It's all time. Remember what we're here to do? It
- 16:43Speaker 1: felt time looking Ron sentence beating launches to the end zone,
- 16:47Speaker 1: cock step on tas touchdown, cuts down all pocket frontly,
- 16:57Speaker 1: He's he sacked Aaron Donald, wrapping up the goats. He
- 17:03Speaker 1: is the absolute heart beat. Come on, man, find a
- 17:08Speaker 1: way to get it. Let's go. Babe's unstoppable. That guy
- 17:11Speaker 1: is a superhero. You will not see a better play
- 17:14Speaker 1: than this all season. That's unbelievable, unbelievable. We are two
- 17:18Speaker 1: days away from the opener, we have seven months of
- 17:20Speaker 1: storylines to unpacked. Now before the Rams and the Bills
- 17:22Speaker 1: go at it game one week, one Rams angle now
- 17:25Speaker 1: before their practice Caleb Britain with us Live in Thousand Oaks. Kayla,
- 17:29Speaker 1: let's do the Vaughan Miller angle. Is he comes back
- 17:33Speaker 1: to play against his former team, one of the Rams
- 17:35Speaker 1: have in store for him? Well, Andrew just starting off.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Much of this conversation surrounding the Rams has been about
- 17:41Speaker 1: what head coach Sean McVeigh said during the Super Bowl parade,
- 17:45Speaker 1: run it back, run it back, and as you mentioned,
- 17:47Speaker 1: one guy, they're not going to be running it back
- 17:49Speaker 1: with his past rusher, Vaughan Miller, and they have to
- 17:53Speaker 1: make sure that they come ready to go. Sean McVeigh,
- 17:56Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford, we're both asked, is it going to be
- 17:58Speaker 1: weird going up against, you know, a guy who literally
- 18:01Speaker 1: just helps you win Super Bowl fifty six Sean McVey
- 18:05Speaker 1: He said, yeah, I mean, it's going to be strange,
- 18:06Speaker 1: but we have to know where this guy is at
- 18:09Speaker 1: at all times. Considering the Bills ranked number one defensively
- 18:13Speaker 1: in several different categories, in scoring defense, in third down defense,
- 18:18Speaker 1: in total defense, so they have to know where he
- 18:20Speaker 1: is at at all costs. Another thing to add here
- 18:23Speaker 1: is that left tackle Andrew Whitworth, who has been in
- 18:25Speaker 1: this building forever, is no longer going to be protecting
- 18:28Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford's blindside. Instead, they're turning to fifth year Joe
- 18:32Speaker 1: Noe Boom, who has had experience in the past. He's
- 18:35Speaker 1: been working a whole lot with Wit during the off season,
- 18:38Speaker 1: going to his house and really learning that position. Another
- 18:41Speaker 1: thing to keep in mind here is he's not unfamiliar
- 18:43Speaker 1: with that position. He will be a full time starter
- 18:46Speaker 1: this season, which is what will be new. But think
- 18:48Speaker 1: back to it was no Boom who played nine games
- 18:51Speaker 1: at that position when Whitworth was out with a knee injury,
- 18:54Speaker 1: and they gave Joe no Boom and I too contract
- 18:56Speaker 1: in the off season as well to prep for moments
- 18:58Speaker 1: like this facing von Miller only twelve games with the Rams,
- 19:01Speaker 1: but he had nine sacks in those twelve Thank you. CAYLEB. Burton.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Live there with the Rams ahead of their Week one
- 19:06Speaker 1: game here in l A against the Bills. Nothing going
- 19:10Speaker 1: on in Seattle Sunday, Nothing nothing going on at all
- 19:14Speaker 1: other than Russell Wilson coming back to face the Seahawks
- 19:16Speaker 1: with this new team, the Denver Broncos. If you don't remember,
- 19:18Speaker 1: he played ten years for Pete Carroll with the seed Ons. Well,
- 19:23Speaker 1: I hope I do a really good job, you know. Um,
- 19:26Speaker 1: I do have as much information as you could have.
- 19:29Speaker 1: You know, I've never probably known the player any any
- 19:32Speaker 1: closer than than than know one rust and his quarterback
- 19:35Speaker 1: and then his playing mentality and all of that. Um
- 19:37Speaker 1: so um, you know he knows he knows me too.
- 19:41Speaker 1: You know he knows us. So let's see what happens,
- 19:44Speaker 1: you get it. He he is the quarterback here of
- 19:49Speaker 1: them all in Seahawks history. Now he's the Broncos quarterback.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Now he is a captain as well. Just announce hid
- 19:53Speaker 1: there James Palmer live with us, getting ready for this
- 19:57Speaker 1: one as Russell Wilson heads back with a lot of
- 20:00Speaker 1: weapons at his disposed, Andrew and it's interesting, we haven't
- 20:03Speaker 1: seen Russell Wilson, were any of these weapons really play
- 20:07Speaker 1: in a game, all of them held out of the
- 20:08Speaker 1: preseason by head coach Nathaniel Hackett. So how are we
- 20:11Speaker 1: going to see this offense kind of come together? We
- 20:13Speaker 1: Courtland Sutton was just addressed in the media a few
- 20:15Speaker 1: minutes ago, and he said, I think our goal with
- 20:17Speaker 1: all of these weapons really is to find the weakness
- 20:20Speaker 1: in the defense and exploit that specific aspect of the defense.
- 20:24Speaker 1: And everybody I've talked to in the building in Denver
- 20:27Speaker 1: really believed Sutton specifically is going to have a breakout season,
- 20:30Speaker 1: one that we expected maybe a couple of years ago
- 20:32Speaker 1: before the a c L injury. Now playing without that brace,
- 20:35Speaker 1: playing with a lot of confidence. And I'm told by
- 20:37Speaker 1: multiple guys in this coaching staff, when things break down
- 20:40Speaker 1: or Russell Wilson needs a play, he looks Courtland Sutton's way,
- 20:43Speaker 1: and then they also know that Jerry Judy is expected
- 20:46Speaker 1: to take a jump. Spending a lot of time personally
- 20:48Speaker 1: in the quarterback room actually seeing how the quarterbacks operate
- 20:51Speaker 1: during their team meetings to try to get an extra
- 20:53Speaker 1: edge moving forward. One guy in this group we have
- 20:56Speaker 1: seen in the preseason. That's their speedster, kJ Hamler, who
- 20:59Speaker 1: has been out almost pretty much a year with a
- 21:02Speaker 1: hip and a knee injury. He played in the final
- 21:03Speaker 1: preseason game. He came out of that really strong. So
- 21:06Speaker 1: they do have everybody pretty much outside of Tim Patrick,
- 21:09Speaker 1: who they lost at the beginning of camp to Russell
- 21:11Speaker 1: Wilson's disposal and the idea of it is to spread
- 21:14Speaker 1: the ball around. We just haven't seen it all together yet.
- 21:17Speaker 1: We'll find that out Monday. Looking forward to that on
- 21:19Speaker 1: Monday night. There there are so many matchups you can
- 21:22Speaker 1: circle here. I mean Russell against Pete Carroll, that's one
- 21:26Speaker 1: of them. James, what's your favorite one? Though? I like
- 21:28Speaker 1: DK Metcalf first, Pat Sertan and and you know, there's
- 21:31Speaker 1: so many expectations about Russell Wilson and what he's gonna
- 21:33Speaker 1: do for the Denver Broncos. Certain might be the next
- 21:36Speaker 1: individual on this team that everybody's excited to see in
- 21:39Speaker 1: year two as a corner. They believe he's already one
- 21:42Speaker 1: of the best corners in all of football. And he
- 21:44Speaker 1: is a big bodied corner at six to gonna play
- 21:47Speaker 1: this season about two pounds higher than he did his
- 21:50Speaker 1: rookie year. And he believes what he's made the biggest
- 21:53Speaker 1: jump from his rookie season to year two is his
- 21:55Speaker 1: preparation in his film study, and he's been studying. We've
- 21:58Speaker 1: had some conversations Dk Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in this
- 22:02Speaker 1: Seahawks offense for some time, dating back well for the
- 22:05Speaker 1: start of training camp about how he was going to
- 22:07Speaker 1: match up against Metcalf. They'd like to move him around.
- 22:09Speaker 1: He can shadow number one wide receivers this season, though
- 22:12Speaker 1: obviously week by week see if that's what they'd like
- 22:15Speaker 1: to do. But they'd like to match him up against
- 22:17Speaker 1: DK Metcalf at times space maybe at the length of
- 22:20Speaker 1: the entire game. And that's a big bodied matchup between
- 22:22Speaker 1: those two guys I think everybody'd like to see. And
- 22:24Speaker 1: he did kind of hint I may pick Russell Wilson's
- 22:27Speaker 1: ear a little bit andrew on some tendencies of DK Mecca. Yeah,
- 22:31Speaker 1: I would think just just a little, just a little
- 22:36Speaker 1: thank you James Palmer there with the Broncos side of
- 22:38Speaker 1: the things there. Week one gamed in Seattle against the Seahawks.
- 22:44Speaker 1: About this one of the NFC North, Aaron Rodgers and
- 22:46Speaker 1: the Green Bay Packers on the road against the Minnesota Vikings,
- 22:50Speaker 1: a team with which they split a year ago. Matt Lafleur,
- 22:57Speaker 1: There's been a lot of things, I think around the league.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I'm sure there's a lot of game planning that's already
- 23:03Speaker 1: kind of transpired to today and I know we're kind
- 23:06Speaker 1: of in that boat right now. So, um, you know,
- 23:10Speaker 1: it's definitely given us an opportunity to get a jump
- 23:12Speaker 1: on some of the things we might want to do
- 23:14Speaker 1: in a game. Said earlier, how much I like Hi, Tom,
- 23:17Speaker 1: hell sero, you'll be at this one week one talking
- 23:20Speaker 1: about the real game here instead of the big training
- 23:22Speaker 1: camp picture stuff. It's also time to talk about injuries.
- 23:25Speaker 1: The Packers have been trying to get as many pieces
- 23:28Speaker 1: as possible ready for Week one by holding them back
- 23:31Speaker 1: in training camp. What's the latest, Well, Andrew, let's start
- 23:34Speaker 1: on the offensive line, where David Baktis injury status is
- 23:37Speaker 1: something we've been talking about since New Year's Eve in
- 23:40Speaker 1: twenty when he tore his a c L in practice, missed,
- 23:44Speaker 1: of course, the playoff run that year. Came back last
- 23:47Speaker 1: season but just wasn't able to get the knee right.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Came back for one game against the Lions, end up
- 23:51Speaker 1: having another procedure, had an additional third procedure this off season.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Everything seems to be trending the right way for David Baktieri.
- 23:59Speaker 1: He just returned to eleven on eleven drills in recent days. Here,
- 24:03Speaker 1: the question is going to be to the Packers feel
- 24:05Speaker 1: comfortable enough based on everything that's happened, the swelling and
- 24:08Speaker 1: other things he's dealt with to put him out there
- 24:10Speaker 1: in a Week one setting, and that's something that's gonna
- 24:12Speaker 1: be tested over the next several days of practice. Here.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Elton Jenkins, who's another All Pro, also coming off of
- 24:18Speaker 1: a torn a c L that he suffered while playing
- 24:20Speaker 1: Bok tr is position at left tackle. So if Jenkins
- 24:23Speaker 1: is healthy and box Try is healthy, you think that
- 24:25Speaker 1: Jakins moves to right tackle. He has also been an
- 24:27Speaker 1: All Pro left guard, has got fantastic versatility, but all
- 24:30Speaker 1: those remain question marks, which, of course for the Vikings
- 24:33Speaker 1: that makes it that much tougher for them to game
- 24:35Speaker 1: plan against him. And then at the wide receiver position,
- 24:37Speaker 1: Christian Watson didn't play in the preseason for the Packers,
- 24:40Speaker 1: dealing with some bumps and bruises there. He sounds confident.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Matt la Fleur sounds confident that he's going to be
- 24:46Speaker 1: out there in Week one. A little less certainty regarding
- 24:48Speaker 1: Alan Lizard, who didn't practice last week because of undisclosed reasons.
- 24:53Speaker 1: We'll see when the Packers returned to the practice field
- 24:55Speaker 1: on Wednesday, what if anything Lizard is doing on the field.
- 24:58Speaker 1: But even if he doesn't evolve into the guy who's
- 25:01Speaker 1: getting a high volume of targets and the post Davante
- 25:03Speaker 1: Adams era, Lazard serves a lot of other purposes. He's
- 25:06Speaker 1: the best blocker the wide receiver group. He's the most
- 25:09Speaker 1: physical guy that they have, so really important and probably
- 25:12Speaker 1: underrated piece of that offense. Again, we'll get a better
- 25:15Speaker 1: idea on the picture of this come Wednesday's practice. Will
- 25:17Speaker 1: also get a better idea come Wednesday, come week one
- 25:20Speaker 1: on Sunday Tom of what this Vikings team is going
- 25:24Speaker 1: to look and feel like. With Kevin O'Connell now as
- 25:28Speaker 1: head coach, there in your backyard, what's the vibe there?
- 25:30Speaker 1: The vibe Andrew is very positive and very upbeats arounding
- 25:34Speaker 1: everything with the Vikings, which is normal when you've got
- 25:36Speaker 1: a first time head coach. Is a little bit of
- 25:38Speaker 1: a placebo effect at times. People feel like it's different,
- 25:41Speaker 1: so it must be better, But really, with shorter practices,
- 25:44Speaker 1: less time in pads, there are definitely players who feel
- 25:47Speaker 1: like they are fresher as they head into this season
- 25:50Speaker 1: than maybe they've been in past years. But in terms
- 25:52Speaker 1: of what the offense looks like, we really don't know
- 25:55Speaker 1: teams don't show a whole lot in the preseason. I
- 25:57Speaker 1: can tell you could expect less of the traditional zone running.
- 26:01Speaker 1: You're going to see more combination blocks, which is a
- 26:03Speaker 1: little bit technical, but basically you're gonna see them moving
- 26:06Speaker 1: differently up front, some of those smaller, faster athletic alignement
- 26:09Speaker 1: actually maybe helped out on the interior by some of
- 26:12Speaker 1: the things they're doing blocking wise, which they hope gonna
- 26:14Speaker 1: open up a lot of holes for Dalvin Cook, Alexander
- 26:17Speaker 1: Madison and company. And then over on defense, the vikings
- 26:19Speaker 1: around a three four. For the first time since I
- 26:22Speaker 1: was in like grade school, it has been a long time.
- 26:24Speaker 1: You're gonna see Zadarius Smith, the Neil Hunter standing up,
- 26:27Speaker 1: which is going to create some potential match of challenges
- 26:30Speaker 1: they hope against the Packers and other teams through the
- 26:32Speaker 1: course of this season. A lot of the same face
- 26:34Speaker 1: as Eric Kendricks and Harrison Smith. Patrick Peterson's back there
- 26:38Speaker 1: for another year, but schematically they're going to be vastly different.
- 26:41Speaker 1: That's gonna be some of the fun. In that Week
- 26:43Speaker 1: one game, the chess match, they moves and counter moves
- 26:46Speaker 1: that both these head coaches, Matt Floor and Kevin O'Connell,
- 26:48Speaker 1: who certainly know each other well, they're gonna be going
- 26:50Speaker 1: through with Donna tells the new defensive coordinator grade school days,
- 26:54Speaker 1: was that like the Williams Wall days those back then
- 26:58Speaker 1: high school for that well, I was well before the
- 27:01Speaker 1: Williams Wall. We're talking like nineteen eighty nine. Keith Millard
- 27:05Speaker 1: might have been standing up at some point there, Chris Dolman.
- 27:07Speaker 1: It has been a while. They've been a four three
- 27:09Speaker 1: team for a long long time, and so you're hoping
- 27:12Speaker 1: that the some of those old parts fit into the
- 27:14Speaker 1: new roles really well. But you can bet there's gonna
- 27:16Speaker 1: be an adjustment. Prorect me if I'm wrong. I think
- 27:17Speaker 1: Keith Millard was awesome on tech Mobile. Thank you for
- 27:22Speaker 1: one more thing before we go with Tom Tella Sero
- 27:25Speaker 1: going first. Andrew was five years ago today that my
- 27:30Speaker 1: wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, for some wonderful
- 27:36Speaker 1: surgeons and doctors, she is now healthy and happy. That's
- 27:41Speaker 1: a photo from the day before her diagnosis. That little
- 27:43Speaker 1: baby right there, Finley, who was about nine months old
- 27:47Speaker 1: at the time. Today went off to her first day
- 27:50Speaker 1: of kindergarten, so I got to see her and her
- 27:52Speaker 1: sister get on the bus together. Thankful every day that
- 27:56Speaker 1: my wife can be there for all of those milestones
- 27:58Speaker 1: and it means the world to me. That is fantastic.
- 28:01Speaker 1: We love her, Sarah. Damn well done, Cam. One more
- 28:06Speaker 1: thing so awesome to congrats for that. I want to
- 28:10Speaker 1: give another congrats to Jaguars wire receiver Christian Kirk, who
- 28:14Speaker 1: got engaged this past week as the Jaguars positional social
- 28:18Speaker 1: media Big year for Christian, big contract UH engaged Just
- 28:24Speaker 1: because of all the good vibes with Christian Kirk, I
- 28:26Speaker 1: think I'm starting them in my fancy lineup this one. Yeah.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Also shout out to Sarah, my favorite Pellaceero by far.
- 28:35Speaker 1: How about this? Does he Ian Rappaport need to be
- 28:37Speaker 1: on a T shirt? No? Do you want to buy
- 28:39Speaker 1: a T shirt with Ian Rappaport on it? Well, now
- 28:41Speaker 1: you have the opportunity due to Pat McAfee and his
- 28:43Speaker 1: group over there. Buzz buzz it says by the cell phone.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Now that here, it's the big major point of it. Now.
- 28:48Speaker 1: All proceeds will go to Kids UH in charity with
- 28:51Speaker 1: kids in need. So I do believe that is I
- 28:54Speaker 1: guess the appropriate way we all should go by an
- 28:56Speaker 1: Ian Rappaport T shirt. Maybe wear them on one more
- 28:58Speaker 1: thing one of these days. Bye Bye NFL Now is
