- 1:08Speaker 4: We'll provide more cooling in the containment chambers.
- 1:10Speaker 2: To your citizens, we have revealed.
- 1:12Speaker 1: You asked me to act natural and act unnatural.
- 1:14Speaker 5: In fact, under the circumstances, I think I had to
- 1:15Speaker 5: get a fucking Academy Award for how natural I'm acting.
- 1:17Speaker 1: You asked me to get rid of him.
- 1:18Speaker 6: I'm doing my best.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Well, you were best.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Better get a hell of a lot fucking better, or
- 1:23Speaker 3: you are going to feel a hell of a lot
- 1:24Speaker 3: fucking worse. It's Oscar night in Hollywood. This is the
- 1:29Speaker 3: Pantages Theater, where the elite of the motion picture industry
- 1:32Speaker 3: and the entertainment press of the world... Gathered for the
- 1:36Speaker 3: 32nd Annual Achievement Awards of the Academy of Motion Picture
- 1:39Speaker 3: Arts and Sciences. Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the
- 1:44Speaker 3: Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
- 1:47Speaker 6: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:49Speaker 4: I'm Jacqueline.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I'm Wesley.
- 1:52Speaker 6: And welcome to the 9th Annual Oscar Meltdown. We're coming
- 1:56Speaker 6: to you live via digital recording from the Grendel Auditorium.
- 2:00Speaker 6: It's a cold day here in L.A. It's 68.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Yep.
- 2:05Speaker 6: Terrible weather. Better put your jacket on.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I wore my snowsuit.
- 2:09Speaker 6: On that note, we're on the red carpet now. I
- 2:12Speaker 6: figured they'd do the, who are you wearing? So we're
- 2:14Speaker 6: going to do, I decided my variation today is, what
- 2:18Speaker 6: are you wearing? So we can do your fabulous rundown of,
- 2:23Speaker 6: what are you wearing? So I'll start off. My bacon
- 2:27Speaker 6: tux was at the cleaners. Literally is kind of a mess.
- 2:32Speaker 6: So I opted instead for... One of our nominees tonight.
- 2:36Speaker 6: This fabulous Rogue One t-shirt I'm wearing. Will it be
- 2:41Speaker 6: a big winner tonight? Stay tuned. That's pretty much it
- 2:44Speaker 6: for me. Chucks. Live and die by the Chucks. That's
- 2:48Speaker 6: pretty much it.
- 2:50Speaker 4: I'm wearing my vintage 1991 bloodline skin suit.
- 2:57Speaker 7: Nice.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Hardcore.
- 2:58Speaker 6: Old school.
- 2:59Speaker 4: And no shoes.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Because.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I evolved.
- 3:06Speaker 4: I evolved to not need them.
- 3:07Speaker 6: You're one of those damn hippies that shows up on
- 3:09Speaker 6: the red carpet with no shoes.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Making a statement.
- 3:13Speaker 6: I am making a statement. You and your damn politics.
- 3:16Speaker 6: You keep it out of this show. We'll have none
- 3:19Speaker 6: of that. Nothing but mindless yammering about movies here.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Sounds good. I am wearing a pair of shoes that
- 3:29Speaker 2: are from a company in Owensboro, Kentucky made for diabetics.
- 3:33Speaker 6: That place.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Major diabetics. I'm kind of like Michael Jordan of diabetes.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I've got an endorsement deal with him.
- 3:41Speaker 6: Can you dunk?
- 3:43Speaker 2: I can shoot insulin into my body through a syringe.
- 3:47Speaker 2: That's really all it takes.
- 3:47Speaker 6: Can you dunk insulin? Can you shoot insulin from the
- 3:50Speaker 6: three-point line?
- 3:51Speaker 2: I haven't tried that. I should probably do that. Maybe
- 3:53Speaker 2: before I re-sign, I'll practice a little bit. An Old
- 3:57Speaker 2: Navy and a blue shirt that I can't remember where
- 3:59Speaker 2: it came from. Thank you.
- 4:02Speaker 6: All righty then. We got that going for us. Take that,
- 4:05Speaker 6: million-dollar jewelers that I'm not wearing.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 4:09Speaker 4: I've got a very, very expensive Fitbit.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Nice.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Fitbit Ulta.
- 4:15Speaker 6: I have a rubber band on my wrist.
- 4:16Speaker 4: And it tells me the time.
- 4:17Speaker 6: And it's broken. I tied it back together.
- 4:18Speaker 2: What's your step count for today?
- 4:19Speaker 6: Not very high.
- 4:20Speaker 4: I can tell you that right now.
- 4:21Speaker 6: It's a nap day.
- 4:24Speaker 8: 4,500.
- 4:25Speaker 6: It's a Sunday. Leave me alone.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Makes me think of that episode of the IT Crowd
- 4:29Speaker 2: where the lady is jogging in place to get her marathon,
- 4:32Speaker 2: virtual marathon she was running.
- 4:35Speaker 6: So we're also enjoying, this is in addition to being
- 4:38Speaker 6: the Oscar meltdown, it is also the pork festival that
- 4:43Speaker 6: it always has been since the beginning. So would you
- 4:46Speaker 6: like to run down the, as a refresher, for those
- 4:49Speaker 6: of you, I think some years I haven't mentioned it
- 4:51Speaker 6: and I'm assuming anybody that comes in, which by the way,
- 4:54Speaker 6: I'll tell you now, I've said it in previous years,
- 4:56Speaker 6: this is not a good starter episode. People are just
- 4:59Speaker 6: bewildered when they start off with this one. So Just
- 5:02Speaker 6: email me. I'll find you a good starter episode. This
- 5:04Speaker 6: is good for like old school fans who like understand
- 5:07Speaker 6: our yammering on.
- 5:09Speaker 4: It's tradition.
- 5:10Speaker 6: And what goes on during the Oscars. So yeah, what
- 5:13Speaker 6: we normally do is get together and eat lots and
- 5:17Speaker 6: lots of pork because some idiot, myself, decided years and
- 5:20Speaker 6: years ago that it's not just the Oscar party. It's
- 5:23Speaker 6: going to be an Oscar Meyer party. And then we
- 5:26Speaker 6: eat as many types of pork as humanly possible, which
- 5:29Speaker 6: we Push the boundaries, I think, every year. We're going
- 5:32Speaker 6: to lose somebody one day.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Have you ever had a fully grilled pig with an
- 5:36Speaker 2: apple in the mouth?
- 5:36Speaker 6: I assume that's where we're headed, somewhere down the line.
- 5:39Speaker 6: It's going to be Grendel.
- 5:40Speaker 9: Nice.
- 5:40Speaker 6: If we can get somebody to sponsor it. This year,
- 5:43Speaker 6: we're back to just billing Oscar Mayer because nobody came
- 5:47Speaker 6: on board as our pork sponsor this year. Mostly because
- 5:49Speaker 6: I wasn't trying real hard.
- 5:50Speaker 4: You're not going to find a sponsor from Oscar Mayer.
- 5:53Speaker 4: You're going to find your sponsor in Pepto Bismol.
- 5:56Speaker 6: Well, I mean, I live and die by them as well,
- 5:59Speaker 6: so that's without my.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Get some of that Tums money.
- 6:04Speaker 6: They just don't cut it. It's all Pepto for me.
- 6:07Speaker 6: I'm telling you, there's something magical about that pink liquid.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Do you remember that one time at work when I
- 6:12Speaker 4: was like, Brian, you have to go get me some
- 6:14Speaker 4: Pepto-Bismol or I'm not going to make it through this shift.
- 6:20Speaker 6: Oh, I mean, we've all had those moments. Pepto saves lives, man.
- 6:25Speaker 6: They really should come on board after this. That is
- 6:28Speaker 6: at least a product I will stand by, especially tonight.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I don't think they've entered the podcasting advertising arena yet.
- 6:34Speaker 2: A lot of people are now.
- 6:36Speaker 6: I'm waiting for it to really start rolling in.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Hipping up the Pepto audience.
- 6:39Speaker 8: A little bit.
- 6:40Speaker 6: They need to come on board because I'm telling you,
- 6:44Speaker 6: I'll probably just take it in like product trade-outs. as
- 6:48Speaker 6: much as I invest in them anyway, my stomach's probably
- 6:52Speaker 6: going to implode upon itself.
- 6:53Speaker 2: At some point.
- 6:54Speaker 6: My ulcers aside, let's just go into the rest of this.
- 6:58Speaker 6: The reason we're here, because as I said, we're watching
- 7:04Speaker 6: the Oscars-ish, but usually we just turn it down and
- 7:08Speaker 6: ignore what's going on and occasionally make fun of somebody's outfit.
- 7:11Speaker 6: We're really here to give away the foilers. Wes, you've
- 7:17Speaker 6: never seen one in person.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I have not.
- 7:19Speaker 6: How impressed are you?
- 7:20Speaker 2: That's a great design. Did you like shop that out?
- 7:23Speaker 2: I mean, did you get a third party?
- 7:25Speaker 6: No, this is trademarked. These are mine.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:27Speaker 10: Wow.
- 7:28Speaker 6: Go to thefoilers.com. You'll find this right there.
- 7:30Speaker 2: It's like an artisan award.
- 7:31Speaker 4: It's probably worth more than an actual Oscar.
- 7:33Speaker 6: I would think so. And again, it's- Ways less. It's
- 7:37Speaker 6: the trophy made of aluminum foil. And the benefit is
- 7:40Speaker 6: you can take home leftovers. So- Assuming we don't kill
- 7:43Speaker 6: all these little pork pastries that we've made here. I
- 7:46Speaker 6: have eaten eight so far. Well, you're ahead of everyone else.
- 7:50Speaker 6: Calm down. You'll be dead or napping soon. Yeah. But
- 7:55Speaker 6: you can take them home in this wonderful aluminum foil
- 8:01Speaker 6: trophy that we have right here. Grendel's excited to see it.
- 8:03Speaker 6: Look at it. So we do have foilers if you
- 8:07Speaker 6: need to photo op with them on the red carpet later.
- 8:10Speaker 2: We do have them here. That was good. Sting was
- 8:13Speaker 2: looking a little Bryan Cranston-esque. Did you guys notice that?
- 8:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I did see that.
- 8:16Speaker 2: He's very tan. Sting. Like a slightly older Cranston.
- 8:21Speaker 6: Oh, we do get a chance to see if my
- 8:23Speaker 6: vision comes true. Because on our music episode where I
- 8:28Speaker 6: described his song as being made specifically for this program,
- 8:33Speaker 6: the entire song was written to be on this show.
- 8:36Speaker 6: So the way that I envisioned it, I can now
- 8:38Speaker 6: see if it actually pans out.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Nice.
- 8:41Speaker 4: I don't think that song is going to win anything.
- 8:43Speaker 6: Oh, I don't think so, but he's going to perform
- 8:44Speaker 6: it either way.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Oh, okay, yeah.
- 8:45Speaker 6: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. He'll be on stage at
- 8:47Speaker 6: some point.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I don't know who this lady is.
- 8:49Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 8:51Speaker 6: Is it Elle? Oh, yeah. She's not from America. That's
- 8:56Speaker 6: why we don't know who she is.
- 8:58Speaker 2: We're dumb Americans.
- 8:59Speaker 6: We don't know these fancy foreign films, but I've heard
- 9:02Speaker 6: she's in like two this year. I've heard she's actually
- 9:03Speaker 6: very impressive.
- 9:04Speaker 2: That Elle movie actually looked pretty good. I saw the
- 9:06Speaker 2: trailer for it. For it. I just said for it.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Pardon the Millenburg County accent.
- 9:11Speaker 6: We don't endorse that language.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Try to dodge my roots.
- 9:18Speaker 6: You can't escape.
- 9:19Speaker 2: So how does one win the foil game? Well, if you're...
- 9:23Speaker 2: For the new listeners.
- 9:25Speaker 6: If you're really cool, you'll actually write in to me
- 9:28Speaker 6: by next year and say, hey, I want to be
- 9:30Speaker 6: involved in this. And then you can actually submit your
- 9:33Speaker 6: picks for this award ceremony. and eventually we'll read off
- 9:39Speaker 6: the winners here. But basically, I was going to say,
- 9:42Speaker 6: I think this is probably the most responses we've got.
- 9:45Speaker 6: I mean, it's taken nine years to get here, but
- 9:47Speaker 6: we've actually gotten a good amount of responses this time around,
- 9:51Speaker 6: and it took a little reminding from me, so sorry
- 9:54Speaker 6: about that. Pestering, you guys. But, I mean, I gave
- 9:56Speaker 6: you a deadline. You guys are slackers. But either way, I...
- 10:00Speaker 6: completely appreciate the people who actually got their shit together
- 10:04Speaker 6: and came through, and there are 17 categories, I think.
- 10:07Speaker 6: So there's a lot of things for people to come
- 10:09Speaker 6: up with, and a lot of people are like, oh shit,
- 10:12Speaker 6: I haven't seen any movies this year. As they get
- 10:14Speaker 6: into it, and they're like, I've seen like three things.
- 10:16Speaker 6: So I understand that I'm behind myself. So I really
- 10:19Speaker 6: do appreciate people who bothered to take the time to
- 10:22Speaker 6: answer the questionnaire and email in and give us our
- 10:26Speaker 6: winners tonight. So you can be involved. We are group-oriented here.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Let's see, look, there's Kong. That Kong looks so good.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I'm so excited for that. Good old Hiddles.
- 10:38Speaker 6: Brie Larson, too. I'm all about some Brie Larson.
- 10:42Speaker 2: That just looks like a good old-fashioned adventure movie. I'm
- 10:44Speaker 2: so excited about it.
- 10:47Speaker 6: But I did notice on the beginning there, I believe
- 10:51Speaker 6: it said, like from the people that brought you Godzilla.
- 10:56Speaker 2: The new Godzilla?
- 10:57Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm assuming. Are we looking down the road a
- 11:00Speaker 6: little bit? I mean, come on.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:03Speaker 6: They're going to do a Godzilla 2. We know that's coming.
- 11:06Speaker 6: It's got a new director now, so I hear. But,
- 11:08Speaker 6: I mean, the next movie out, right? I mean, they're
- 11:11Speaker 6: going to have to rip off the old school. Nothing
- 11:14Speaker 6: more classic than Godzilla. King Kong versus Godzilla.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:17Speaker 4: I mean, you saw some other big-ass monsters in Kong.
- 11:19Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying. Well, and Godzilla was doing his
- 11:23Speaker 6: monster fighting, so they're both working out. They're getting ready
- 11:27Speaker 6: for the main event.
- 11:28Speaker 2: I'm waiting for a good training montage. Put some separate
- 11:33Speaker 2: ways underneath them running.
- 11:34Speaker 6: Oh, cue the survivor.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Come on.
- 11:36Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 11:36Speaker 2: I always get Journey and Survivor confused.
- 11:39Speaker 6: I mean, separate ways is awesome, too, but kind of
- 11:42Speaker 6: a different montage. Yeah. Since we've been addressing the red
- 11:46Speaker 6: carpet stuff, I have maybe a question for just general...
- 11:50Speaker 6: I don't know if it's... It's fashion. Hair falls into fashion.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I think so, yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 6: This is... I saw something the other day. I felt
- 11:59Speaker 6: it was a social faux pas. I want to get
- 12:02Speaker 6: your take on it. So I was at this place.
- 12:06Speaker 6: One of you might have been there as well. And these...
- 12:09Speaker 6: You see a lot of man buns. I've just gotten
- 12:12Speaker 6: to where the hate's over. I don't care.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Sure.
- 12:15Speaker 6: Wear your hair however the hell you want to wear
- 12:16Speaker 6: your hair. But my thing was, there were two guys
- 12:20Speaker 6: with man buns.
- 12:21Speaker 4: Oh, I remember this.
- 12:21Speaker 6: And they were together.
- 12:23Speaker 4: There was a crew. There was a crew of man buns.
- 12:26Speaker 6: That was a whole other crew.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Was it like a gang thing?
- 12:28Speaker 6: No, this was like a table of three people. The
- 12:30Speaker 6: other one was a woman, two guys, both had long hair,
- 12:34Speaker 6: both had beards too. It was kind of creepy. And
- 12:37Speaker 6: then they both had done a man bun of some sort.
- 12:40Speaker 6: One was a little more loose and that guy needed
- 12:42Speaker 6: to get his shit together. But in general, they were
- 12:44Speaker 6: both rocking a man bun. And I was just like,
- 12:47Speaker 6: that seems like no. I'm like, if you're a dude
- 12:51Speaker 6: with a man bun, you go over to your friend's house,
- 12:53Speaker 6: he's also got it. You're like, dude, one of us.
- 12:55Speaker 4: One of us has got to change.
- 12:56Speaker 6: He's got to change.
- 12:56Speaker 2: It's like wearing the same shirt. Yeah.
- 12:58Speaker 6: I mean, there are many times. Misty and I have
- 13:00Speaker 6: about half of the same shirts. Half the time before
- 13:02Speaker 6: we go to a convention, we're like, okay, you're not
- 13:04Speaker 6: wearing this one or this one, right? Because I don't
- 13:06Speaker 6: want to have to change when we get there. So, again,
- 13:08Speaker 6: we have sense enough to know you don't go... You're
- 13:11Speaker 6: not a band. You're not dressing the same on stage. Like,
- 13:14Speaker 6: you can't walk around with your friends and look the same.
- 13:17Speaker 6: It looks ridiculous. Right. So, I feel like one of
- 13:20Speaker 6: those two dudes needed to change. You've got to be
- 13:22Speaker 6: uncool in what you're saying.
- 13:23Speaker 2: It's not hard.
- 13:23Speaker 4: All they have to do is take out.
- 13:24Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a rubber band, dude. Take it off. Come on.
- 13:26Speaker 2: They could do, like, a cool slow motion hair whip.
- 13:28Speaker 6: Do his hair whip. Yeah, do a Fabio. Come on, man.
- 13:31Speaker 6: I mean, I.
- 13:32Speaker 2: I don't know. Did they look alike at all? Yeah,
- 13:34Speaker 2: kind of.
- 13:34Speaker 6: I mean, we're trying to decide. I was pretty sure
- 13:36Speaker 6: they were maybe brothers.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I was just wondering, does Louisville have clone stuff now?
- 13:40Speaker 6: Cloning?
- 13:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:41Speaker 6: We moved into cloning? Even then, I feel like if
- 13:45Speaker 6: you're going to trick people, you've got to start dressing
- 13:47Speaker 6: different and grow some different facial hair. Otherwise, they're going
- 13:50Speaker 6: to catch on, and then everybody's going to want clones.
- 13:53Speaker 6: That's how Attack of the Clones happens, man. It's profits.
- 13:56Speaker 6: It's coming true.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Attack of the man bones. Got to.
- 14:01Speaker 6: So, I don't know. That was my feelings. I just
- 14:02Speaker 6: want to see if he wins.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I would not want to have that. There's
- 14:06Speaker 2: a guy that works at the library I work at,
- 14:08Speaker 2: and he has a really cool haircut. And I've been
- 14:10Speaker 2: very tempted to find out where he's going to get
- 14:13Speaker 2: that same haircut. But it's like got the shaved sides
- 14:15Speaker 2: and kind of like the thing I got going with
- 14:17Speaker 2: the top of my hair. And I feel like that
- 14:19Speaker 2: would probably be bad. But I really like that haircut.
- 14:22Speaker 6: I mean, he might just have license to punch you
- 14:25Speaker 6: as soon as you get to work. Just be like, well...
- 14:28Speaker 6: Those shave sides, I feel like they're all the rage
- 14:30Speaker 6: right now.
- 14:30Speaker 2: It might be worth it. I think it'll look great
- 14:33Speaker 2: on me. I'm just going to level with you. I
- 14:36Speaker 2: have amazing hair. Sorry.
- 14:39Speaker 6: Just wait until it's uncool and then get it. He'll
- 14:42Speaker 6: have moved on by then and he'll have a cool
- 14:44Speaker 6: new thing going. Then you can be like, so cool,
- 14:48Speaker 6: it's not cool.
- 14:49Speaker 2: I'm bringing sexy back.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Justin's on the TV right now.
- 14:53Speaker 6: Speaking of which, Justin.
- 14:54Speaker 2: I like the hair thing he's got going on now, too.
- 14:58Speaker 2: It's like his hair matches his beard perfectly.
- 15:00Speaker 6: Because he's that cool. He's Justin. Oscar nominated Justin.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Now, did Trolls get nominated for Best Picture?
- 15:09Speaker 6: It got a nomination. I don't think it was one
- 15:12Speaker 6: of the nine. Assuming it's still nine. I thought it
- 15:15Speaker 6: was nine earlier.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Now, what about Return of Xander Cage? Because that's the
- 15:18Speaker 2: one I was pulling for.
- 15:19Speaker 6: That's all you. He was on TV last night, and
- 15:23Speaker 6: I'm like, I can't take the diesel. I can't.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I understand.
- 15:26Speaker 6: And he's such a dork. I know that. Normally, that
- 15:30Speaker 6: will win me over. If in the real world, somebody
- 15:33Speaker 6: is really super dorky, and even when they try to
- 15:35Speaker 6: play cool, if I know they're dorky, I'm on their side.
- 15:39Speaker 6: But something about Vin Diesel has rubbed me the wrong
- 15:42Speaker 6: way since almost the beginning.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that interview thing come up where he was like,
- 15:46Speaker 2: creeping on some woman and that's it was like a weird.
- 15:49Speaker 6: Well that's my problem now it's like that i couldn't
- 15:53Speaker 6: make it through that last.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Oh uh i know we're pitch black yeah the other
- 16:00Speaker 2: the latest riddick one i could like and again i
- 16:03Speaker 2: like the look of it i think like it had
- 16:05Speaker 2: a nice.
- 16:05Speaker 6: Visual design i'm all for some sci-fi but like his
- 16:09Speaker 6: vibe was so rapey i couldn't like I was like
- 16:13Speaker 6: the whole time on the female lead. I was just like, dude,
- 16:16Speaker 6: stop fucking talking to her. That's creepy.
- 16:19Speaker 2: And that's like, I did see the new triple X movie.
- 16:20Speaker 2: It was before that interview footage came out that everybody's
- 16:22Speaker 2: talking about now that kind of makes me hate him.
- 16:25Speaker 2: But like the new triple X movie is hilariously bad.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Like example, like the opening little scene, it starts with
- 16:34Speaker 2: him on top of like a tower or his introduction
- 16:37Speaker 2: to the film. And he's removing some box. He falls
- 16:40Speaker 2: down into some skis. skis through a jungle and ends
- 16:43Speaker 2: up like on a skateboard. The authorities are chasing him.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I think they were shooting at him.
- 16:47Speaker 6: Hilarious.
- 16:47Speaker 2: He gets the box to this village. I can't remember
- 16:50Speaker 2: where he was at. He wasn't in America. And he
- 16:53Speaker 2: hooks the box up to a TV and it's getting
- 16:55Speaker 2: illegal cable so the people in this village get out
- 16:57Speaker 2: of a soccer game. And this little kid says to
- 17:01Speaker 2: him in a foreign language, he's like, thank you for
- 17:03Speaker 2: bringing us the world, Xander, or something like that. And
- 17:06Speaker 2: then he turns to the kid and he's like, The
- 17:08Speaker 2: world is big, but... Actually, sorry. The world is big,
- 17:11Speaker 2: but it can fit in your heart. And he boops him.
- 17:13Speaker 6: Oh, my God.
- 17:14Speaker 2: That's so bad. Yeah. It's terrible. And every woman... What was.
- 17:18Speaker 4: His interview that you guys were talking about?
- 17:19Speaker 2: It's like... He's like.
- 17:21Speaker 6: Because I hate him anyway.
- 17:23Speaker 2: He's just such a bitch. I read about it, and
- 17:25Speaker 2: I can't remember what it said, but he was basically
- 17:27Speaker 2: being incredibly skeevy to some woman that was interviewing him.
- 17:30Speaker 6: He seems.
- 17:31Speaker 2: It was basically like, I know you want me sort
- 17:33Speaker 2: of stuff from what I gather.
- 17:35Speaker 6: See... I don't get that. You're giving Dungeons & Dragons
- 17:38Speaker 6: players a bad name all over the world. Fuck you, buddy.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Oh, man. Extreme sports, Dungeons & Dragons. All right.
- 17:46Speaker 6: Do we want to get rolling on the awards here? Sure.
- 17:50Speaker 6: I'm also lucky to have a voice. I thought I
- 17:52Speaker 6: was just going to have to hand this off to
- 17:54Speaker 6: somebody else. I still semi have a functional voice.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Is that Matt Damon watching Matt Damon? That would be hilarious. No,
- 18:01Speaker 2: it's not.
- 18:02Speaker 6: He does that at home. Yeah. He's like, it's like
- 18:05Speaker 6: game tapes. He's just like watching his red carpet going, ah,
- 18:09Speaker 6: could have come in a little sooner and really should.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Picture him in like a bathroom with a glass of wine.
- 18:15Speaker 6: Just like reviewing his own tapes. Ah, I got to
- 18:17Speaker 6: get a better cummerbund.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I love these porn movies.
- 18:20Speaker 6: So, first up, the first category in the foilers here.
- 18:25Speaker 6: The most questionable career decision made by an actor, actress,
- 18:28Speaker 6: or filmmaker in 2016. I'm kind of distracted by this
- 18:32Speaker 6: chick's selfie stick. Hmm. Her fancy, fancy selfies.
- 18:36Speaker 2: I think that's a magic wand. She's about to cast
- 18:38Speaker 2: a spell.
- 18:38Speaker 4: I think she's not real.
- 18:41Speaker 2: It's Simone.
- 18:43Speaker 6: CG creation.
- 18:44Speaker 4: No, I think you just sprayed some Pam on her.
- 18:46Speaker 6: Oh, well, I do have a lot of Pam. Not
- 18:48Speaker 6: that we're endorsed by them yet, but once again.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Those lights are really hot.
- 18:52Speaker 6: We have made use of you tonight, so Pam, get
- 18:56Speaker 6: a hold of us. All right, so the most questionable
- 19:00Speaker 6: career decision. The nominees are Ben Affleck as Batman. I
- 19:07Speaker 6: don't know if we're questioning Ben or the filmmakers who
- 19:09Speaker 6: allowed it. Truthfully, I still think that's the best part
- 19:13Speaker 6: of that movie. So take what you can get, in
- 19:14Speaker 6: my opinion.
- 19:15Speaker 8: I agree.
- 19:15Speaker 2: I thought he did a good job.
- 19:17Speaker 6: Yeah. Again, I think he can do the best. I
- 19:20Speaker 6: think it's interesting that he pulled himself out as director.
- 19:22Speaker 6: That is not promising for the screenplay.
- 19:26Speaker 2: From what I understand, they did block Matt Reeves down.
- 19:29Speaker 2: He stepped away, but then he came back to it.
- 19:31Speaker 2: If that happens, I think it could be cool. I
- 19:33Speaker 2: like his stuff.
- 19:34Speaker 6: Next up is, and this one was actually kind of
- 19:37Speaker 6: a two-part one. I'm just throwing them both in there
- 19:40Speaker 6: to read them off because I thought it was funny
- 19:42Speaker 6: that he got two nominations for two different movies. Daniel
- 19:46Speaker 6: Radcliffe for Swiss Army Man. That I can see. Like
- 19:50Speaker 6: if you pitch that to anybody, especially somebody who's already
- 19:54Speaker 6: super famous, to play the role that he does in
- 19:57Speaker 6: Swiss Army Man, I can see that being. I feel
- 20:01Speaker 6: like it kind of worked out for him. But the
- 20:03Speaker 6: other one I thought was funny because he also got
- 20:05Speaker 6: a nomination for Now You See Me 2. The nominator's
- 20:11Speaker 6: comment is, really? Harry Potter didn't get all that magic
- 20:14Speaker 6: out of your system after eight movies?
- 20:16Speaker 2: Nice.
- 20:17Speaker 6: Nice call. The next option is Jared Leto as the Joker.
- 20:22Speaker 6: I think we've talked a lot of smack about him lately.
- 20:25Speaker 6: I'm just going to leave it alone. We all know
- 20:28Speaker 6: how we feel about Jared Leto.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Insane clown pussy.
- 20:33Speaker 6: Next up, Robert De Niro in Dirty Grandpa. You know,
- 20:37Speaker 6: Robert's made a lot of questionable decisions. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Dirty Grandpa just came out.
- 20:44Speaker 6: The beginning of this year.
- 20:45Speaker 1: No.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Are you serious? It feels like that was like ages ago.
- 20:51Speaker 6: Now, you're not thinking of the other one, right?
- 20:53Speaker 8: Wait.
- 20:54Speaker 2: There are some of those type of things.
- 20:56Speaker 6: Oh, I'm thinking of Bad Grandpa.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:58Speaker 6: I think that was also like a huge blow to
- 21:01Speaker 6: that movie. Not that it needed any help.
- 21:02Speaker 2: They really need to. differentiate the names of these types
- 21:07Speaker 2: of movies, because they're all the same type of movies,
- 21:09Speaker 2: but it's all like Bad Moms, Bad Grandpa, Dirty Grandpa.
- 21:12Speaker 6: See, and that, yeah, that was the... Dirty Mom. Dirty Mom.
- 21:16Speaker 6: I think I rented that one time.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Wait.
- 21:19Speaker 6: I took it back a day late. Anyway, that's a
- 21:21Speaker 6: different story. But no, that's... I think it does like
- 21:25Speaker 6: hurt all of these that they're so interchangeable because is
- 21:27Speaker 6: it bad moms? What was the one that had moms?
- 21:30Speaker 6: That's like the Kristen Bell. Well, no, that was actually good.
- 21:33Speaker 6: Like I watched it. I usually don't look for modern
- 21:36Speaker 6: comedies cause most of them are terrible.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:38Speaker 6: And like, I specifically liked the cast. I liked, um,
- 21:41Speaker 6: what's her name?
- 21:44Speaker 2: Mila Kunis.
- 21:44Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 21:44Speaker 6: Mila's in it. So I'm like, Mila's fun. It's got
- 21:47Speaker 6: Kristen Bell in it. Like I love all these people.
- 21:50Speaker 6: It was really funny. I was surprised how well developed
- 21:53Speaker 6: most of the... I haven't seen it, but it's on
- 21:54Speaker 6: my list.
- 21:55Speaker 2: I'll have to check it out.
- 21:56Speaker 6: It wasn't... It's not going to change your life or anything,
- 21:59Speaker 6: but as comedies go, it was better than I expected.
- 22:02Speaker 6: But again, I think that's a terrible title, and I
- 22:04Speaker 6: think it totally hurt them.
- 22:06Speaker 2: It's like you just scream for someone to say, Bad Moms.
- 22:09Speaker 2: More like Bad Movie. bad reviews bad teacher that was
- 22:14Speaker 2: one yeah see there's too many of those it's like
- 22:16Speaker 2: the bad universe it's not yeah it's not fun it's
- 22:18Speaker 2: kind of like a marvel cinematic universe but they all
- 22:21Speaker 2: interact all bad people they all.
- 22:23Speaker 6: Get together and be bad i had to throw this
- 22:25Speaker 6: one in because i like the uh again the comment
- 22:27Speaker 6: from the uh the nominee nominator the whole thing is
- 22:32Speaker 6: who can we blame for the martha disaster in batman
- 22:35Speaker 6: v superman Zack Snyder, Daniel Goyer, Warner Brothers.
- 22:39Speaker 2: I want names.
- 22:40Speaker 6: I deserve a public apology. Once again, we have some
- 22:44Speaker 6: of the best listeners and the most smart aleck bastards
- 22:47Speaker 6: in the world. And I appreciate you. Someone's got to
- 22:49Speaker 6: take the buck.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Someone's got to step up and take responsibility.
- 22:52Speaker 6: I kind of blame Zack. Well, I definitely blame Zack
- 22:54Speaker 6: because he already made bad Superman movies.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I think most of the world's problems can be blamed
- 22:58Speaker 2: on Zack Snyder.
- 22:59Speaker 6: But David Goyer ain't fixing anything either.
- 23:01Speaker 2: So, yeah.
- 23:03Speaker 6: Warner Brothers, just kick these guys out and bring in
- 23:04Speaker 6: some new blood.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Yeah. All right.
- 23:08Speaker 6: So now, the winner for the most questionable career decision.
- 23:12Speaker 6: The winner is Ben Stiller for Making Zoolander 2. I
- 23:18Speaker 6: like that one comment was, really?
- 23:21Speaker 2: Two?
- 23:23Speaker 6: That was it. That just kind of covered it. The
- 23:26Speaker 6: other comment we got was Stiller wrote, directed, and starred
- 23:29Speaker 6: in this sequel 15 years after the original movie, 13
- 23:32Speaker 6: years after Anyone Cared, and 12 years after the character's
- 23:35Speaker 6: co-creator Drake Stathard died. If he can't direct himself in
- 23:39Speaker 6: good comedies anymore, does he make more Night at the
- 23:42Speaker 6: Museums or more Walter Mitty's? It's a question we all
- 23:46Speaker 6: have to live with.
- 23:47Speaker 2: I did see Zoolander 2, though. And there were a
- 23:50Speaker 2: couple funny moments. It definitely wasn't as good as the original,
- 23:53Speaker 2: but it relied a lot on cameos, and that can
- 23:58Speaker 2: be hit and miss, but I laughed when Bieber got hit.
- 24:02Speaker 2: That was pretty funny.
- 24:04Speaker 6: Sometimes they just bank on how many famous friends they have.
- 24:07Speaker 2: I mean, it was stupid, but the first one was
- 24:09Speaker 2: stupid technically, but I laughed some. I'm not going to lie.
- 24:13Speaker 6: There's a way to make that sort of thing work,
- 24:16Speaker 6: but it is kind of hard to hit that. Right.
- 24:18Speaker 6: Iron twice.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Yeah. It was totally unnecessary, but yeah, a couple of
- 24:23Speaker 2: funny moments.
- 24:25Speaker 6: All right, next up, the most shocking moment in a
- 24:28Speaker 6: 2016 film. Now, I will say I've, just in general
- 24:33Speaker 6: for this entire episode, spoiler alert, there are a lot
- 24:38Speaker 6: of these categories that once you get the nominees, they're
- 24:41Speaker 6: kind of already spoiling things. I'm going to try to
- 24:44Speaker 6: make them as generic and generalized as possible so if
- 24:47Speaker 6: you've seen the movie you know what i'm talking about
- 24:49Speaker 6: if you haven't it's hopefully not ruining anything but just
- 24:52Speaker 6: fair warning going in i'll try to give you a
- 24:55Speaker 6: heads up on a few of them along the way
- 24:57Speaker 6: but i feel like most of these you'll be fine
- 25:01Speaker 6: so the nominees are darth vader chops down the hallway
- 25:05Speaker 6: in rogue one i just like that description This one
- 25:11Speaker 6: will leave as general as possible. Turkey baster in the
- 25:14Speaker 6: mouth and don't breathe.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Yep.
- 25:18Speaker 7: Yep.
- 25:22Speaker 6: Moving on. Oh, moving on. It couldn't get any grosser
- 25:26Speaker 6: than that. Elephant's vagina scene in Brothers Grimby. Once again,
- 25:30Speaker 6: we're going to leave it at that. I forgot that
- 25:33Speaker 6: movie existed. There's a few I'm like, wait, when did
- 25:36Speaker 6: that come out? But that one I'm like, did that
- 25:38Speaker 6: come out? Was that really a movie?
- 25:39Speaker 2: It didn't seem to be around very long.
- 25:41Speaker 6: No, and I feel like that's probably a good sign
- 25:45Speaker 6: of how wonderful it was. This next one is, I guess,
- 25:48Speaker 6: a minor spoiler for Suicide Squad, but I feel like
- 25:51Speaker 6: if you cared, you've already seen it. Killing off Slipknot
- 25:54Speaker 6: so quickly in Suicide Squad. Which the nominator says, ridiculous.
- 26:00Speaker 6: You build up your character in marketing but barely use him.
- 26:03Speaker 6: So I said that. Go back, listen to our wonderful
- 26:06Speaker 6: Suicide Squad episode and none of what they did make
- 26:09Speaker 6: sense for the most part.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Yeah. That had so much potential too.
- 26:13Speaker 6: There's good things there. I've said it before. Anyway, moving on.
- 26:18Speaker 6: And the winner is, once again, keeping it as general
- 26:21Speaker 6: as possible because you should see this movie, The Arm
- 26:24Speaker 6: Caught in the Door in Green Room. Have you seen
- 26:27Speaker 6: Green Room?
- 26:29Speaker 2: Oh, yes.
- 26:29Speaker 6: Damn, that's good. Oh, yeah. And just in case film
- 26:35Speaker 6: nerds out there want to get super technical on this
- 26:37Speaker 6: one or any of them tonight, first of all, it's
- 26:39Speaker 6: the foilers. Shut up. Second of all, Green Room was
- 26:42Speaker 6: shot and is listed on IMDb as 2015. But if
- 26:46Speaker 6: you keep reading that IMDb page, it did not have
- 26:49Speaker 6: its U.S. release until April of 2016. You know why
- 26:53Speaker 6: it was kept on hold so long? Because it had
- 26:55Speaker 6: a lot of problems and one of the people may
- 26:57Speaker 6: or may not have died.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Oh. Was that... I was thinking it came out before
- 27:02Speaker 2: he passed away.
- 27:03Speaker 6: I feel like it did, actually. I think I had
- 27:04Speaker 6: actually seen it before then on video.
- 27:08Speaker 2: I think it was like supremely limited release maybe before
- 27:10Speaker 2: he passed away.
- 27:10Speaker 6: They were doing... Yeah, and it.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Maybe in a VOD thing too.
- 27:13Speaker 6: Yeah, they were... but that's one of those like, and
- 27:16Speaker 6: that's why even when it's not spoilers, I will kind
- 27:19Speaker 6: of give a pass for smaller movies because I'm like,
- 27:23Speaker 6: that's also the fight. Any independent filmmaker knows and lives
- 27:28Speaker 6: and like dies by sometimes like you may get funding
- 27:32Speaker 6: and it's two, three years later, you're still working on
- 27:35Speaker 6: your shooting and you're still editing and you're still done
- 27:37Speaker 6: trying to find somebody to distribute it or whatever new
- 27:41Speaker 6: form you're going to jam it out there into the world.
- 27:43Speaker 6: And like that stuff, can move relatively quickly if you've
- 27:46Speaker 6: got a studio behind you, but if you're a smaller movie,
- 27:49Speaker 6: it takes a long time to get that shit together.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Patrick Stewart was amazing in that movie.
- 27:54Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Very scary man.
- 27:57Speaker 6: I love the whole thing going on there. It's so
- 28:00Speaker 6: well made.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and I grew up, I'm sure you probably, the
- 28:03Speaker 2: same growing up, going to punk rock shows and stuff,
- 28:06Speaker 2: had that whole vibe about it. It was really cool.
- 28:07Speaker 6: That one's, again, I think I talked about it before,
- 28:11Speaker 6: how frighteningly accurate it is that that's just... that weird
- 28:15Speaker 6: little club on the outskirts of nowhere.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Right.
- 28:17Speaker 6: Then I'm like, anybody in a band's like, oh yeah,
- 28:19Speaker 6: I played there one time. Whatever frightening locale you end
- 28:23Speaker 6: up at because some friend of yours booked a gig. Like, yeah,
- 28:26Speaker 6: this is a frighteningly real thing that could happen to
- 28:29Speaker 6: any random band out there.
- 28:30Speaker 2: There's a venue in Owensboro that's kind of bringing that
- 28:32Speaker 2: feel back. It's a functioning car garage. So there's like
- 28:36Speaker 2: broken down cars and parts. Nice. There's a corner where
- 28:40Speaker 2: they have like a PA set up and they have
- 28:41Speaker 2: like punk rock shows. It's pretty awesome.
- 28:44Speaker 6: You can kind of pull that off.
- 28:46Speaker 4: If you can just come to Louisville and make another one,
- 28:48Speaker 4: that'd be cool.
- 28:49Speaker 6: Because we haven't had a.
- 28:51Speaker 4: Consistent all-ages DIY venue in almost 10 years now.
- 28:57Speaker 6: It's been a while.
- 28:58Speaker 4: We've had some very transient little punk house sprout up
- 29:03Speaker 4: and then of course they get evicted or something happens.
- 29:07Speaker 6: Random pop-up. I've even seen them book it at one book.
- 29:11Speaker 6: I'm using that a little loosely. But it's set up
- 29:14Speaker 6: to be there in a day or so. Maybe the
- 29:17Speaker 6: day of. They're like, oh, yeah, we can't do it
- 29:19Speaker 6: there anymore. So we're all going over here tonight.
- 29:22Speaker 4: I hate that.
- 29:23Speaker 6: That's a DIY kind of show.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Yeah, we do shows at the library sometimes. We're kind
- 29:27Speaker 2: of bringing that spirit back.
- 29:30Speaker 6: Nothing's more punk rock than the library. True.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Casey Affleck.
- 29:36Speaker 6: I know, he looks so haggard.
- 29:38Speaker 4: There's no reason for it.
- 29:40Speaker 2: I'm sure you can afford shampoo.
- 29:41Speaker 6: It's his thing. He's going for a.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Look, man.
- 29:44Speaker 4: Just at least trim the beard so it's not scraggly
- 29:47Speaker 4: as fuck.
- 29:47Speaker 6: It's haggard chic, man.
- 29:48Speaker 2: He's cosplaying his brother from I'm Not There.
- 29:51Speaker 4: And it's like a man bun, but it's not like
- 29:53Speaker 4: a nice man bun.
- 29:54Speaker 11: It's like.
- 29:54Speaker 6: I think that's an oxymoron.
- 29:57Speaker 2: So you think Keith Urban's tan is real? question of
- 30:00Speaker 2: the night in comparison to her in comparison to nicole
- 30:03Speaker 2: kidman yeah that's dark i read some rough stories about
- 30:07Speaker 2: her in nashville like being mean to people basically there's
- 30:13Speaker 2: one i read about in the starbucks in green hill
- 30:16Speaker 2: her and keith urban came in and like she was
- 30:19Speaker 2: mad about something and i i think maybe somebody turned
- 30:22Speaker 2: around and she just automatically said no pictures we're not
- 30:24Speaker 2: doing pictures they didn't even ask for a picture And, like,
- 30:26Speaker 2: she was just super rude. And they said they went
- 30:29Speaker 2: back out after they got their drinks. And Keith Urban
- 30:31Speaker 2: came back in and apologized to the people that were
- 30:33Speaker 2: telling the story and gave them, like, 20 bucks to
- 30:34Speaker 2: cover their drink order or something.
- 30:36Speaker 6: I'm sorry my wife's a horrible person.
- 30:38Speaker 8: Right.
- 30:39Speaker 6: I'm really sorry. It's bad enough I'm Keith Urban.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Maybe she was having a bad day, mate. That's my
- 30:46Speaker 2: Australian accent. Thank you.
- 30:48Speaker 9: Impressive.
- 30:49Speaker 6: Make sure our Australian listeners are loving All right, next up,
- 30:55Speaker 6: the most miscast actor or actress for their role in
- 30:58Speaker 6: a 2016 film. The nominees are the ever-beloved Jared Leto
- 31:04Speaker 6: for Suicide Squad.
- 31:05Speaker 3: Yay.
- 31:08Speaker 6: The equally beloved Ben Affleck for Batman v. Superman. Again,
- 31:13Speaker 6: it's obviously just superhero nerds are being pissed off. Yeah.
- 31:18Speaker 6: It was Oscar Isaac for X-Men Apocalypse. Actually, it is.
- 31:24Speaker 6: It's five for five out of this one. Tilda Swinton
- 31:28Speaker 6: for Doctor Strange. I thought she was awesome. I thought
- 31:34Speaker 6: it was interesting casting, but again, you're going pretty far
- 31:38Speaker 6: from the source material.
- 31:39Speaker 2: See, I never really read the Doctor Strange book, so
- 31:42Speaker 2: those changes I didn't really.
- 31:45Speaker 6: It's once again a case of, I'm going to take
- 31:48Speaker 6: this in person of color right person from another culture
- 31:53Speaker 6: and jam a white person in the.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Middle i remember they uh i think the director said
- 31:57Speaker 2: what he the the role like the original character was
- 32:00Speaker 2: a bit of a stereotype.
- 32:01Speaker 6: It was so i mean i again we talked about
- 32:05Speaker 6: it on the show when we did the whole movie
- 32:06Speaker 6: and i'm like i feel like it was not a
- 32:09Speaker 6: bad lateral move like it is kind of playing into
- 32:12Speaker 6: what always happens with casting white people in roles that
- 32:15Speaker 6: aren't normally made for them but I think it's an
- 32:18Speaker 6: interesting way to do it and I feel like her
- 32:20Speaker 6: as an actress it kind of fits that.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:22Speaker 6: Because that's such a weird character anyway. He's my favorite
- 32:27Speaker 6: person in The Rock. I just want to hang out
- 32:29Speaker 6: with The Rock right now.
- 32:31Speaker 4: He's like the opposite of Vin Diesel.
- 32:33Speaker 6: He is. That's why I want him to just punch
- 32:35Speaker 6: him in those movies over and over. Isn't he getting
- 32:38Speaker 6: a spinoff?
- 32:39Speaker 2: Like a Fast and Furious spinoff?
- 32:41Speaker 6: Can we where we can take Vin Diesel out of
- 32:43Speaker 6: it and just hang out with him?
- 32:45Speaker 2: So do like a Lucas to it?
- 32:46Speaker 6: Like I feel like not even like real cars. I
- 32:49Speaker 6: feel like he's got like old school racetrack in his
- 32:52Speaker 6: basement and you just go over to his house.
- 32:55Speaker 2: I love his suit. He's got a cool suit.
- 32:57Speaker 6: It looks velvety looking.
- 32:59Speaker 2: And his pants. Check out his pants. The color on
- 33:01Speaker 2: the suit matches his pants. Can we also.
- 33:04Speaker 6: Rub that back and forth and see what the pattern
- 33:06Speaker 6: change on that?
- 33:09Speaker 4: You can rub Dwayne back and forth.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I mean.
- 33:12Speaker 6: Oh, and it matches.
- 33:13Speaker 4: The interviewer's got... A velvet suit on, too.
- 33:17Speaker 6: Michael's kind of velvety.
- 33:19Speaker 2: It's a bold choice, Rock. And I have to say,
- 33:21Speaker 2: it rocks.
- 33:22Speaker 4: It rocks.
- 33:23Speaker 6: Rock can do whatever the hell he wants.
- 33:25Speaker 4: Because he's the best.
- 33:27Speaker 6: Wait, is that guy taller than him? I think so, yeah.
- 33:30Speaker 6: Jesus Christ. Dude, Giants. Professional football player. Yeah, he was
- 33:35Speaker 6: a football player. They're kind of big dudes.
- 33:38Speaker 8: All right.
- 33:38Speaker 6: And the winner is, kind of overwhelmingly, by the way,
- 33:42Speaker 6: no surprise... Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Oh, that was, yeah. Yeah, that was pretty bad.
- 33:49Speaker 6: I think one of the nominators said it best with just, ugh.
- 33:54Speaker 6: That was his comment. Another one goes on to say,
- 34:01Speaker 6: I'm not sure that miscast is the right word. Maybe
- 34:04Speaker 6: because he might have done a good job under other circumstances,
- 34:07Speaker 6: but Jesse Eisenberg's performance as Lex Luthor in Batman v
- 34:10Speaker 6: Superman was just baffling. Luther's character has historically been either
- 34:14Speaker 6: evil businessman, evil scientist, or some combination therein. He's never
- 34:18Speaker 6: been portrayed as batshit crazy. Eisenberg's ADD riddle performance was
- 34:23Speaker 6: distracting at best and completely pulled you out of the
- 34:26Speaker 6: movie at worst. He was the worst of things in
- 34:29Speaker 6: a really bad movie.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Sounds about right.
- 34:33Speaker 4: Who was the Lex Luthor in Smallville?
- 34:36Speaker 2: Michael Rosenbaum.
- 34:37Speaker 6: Michael Rosenbaum is kind of awesome.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:40Speaker 4: I liked that because I watched Smallville when I was younger.
- 34:45Speaker 6: As you should. Like in the early days, that was
- 34:47Speaker 6: a great show. And I feel, well, I said that forever.
- 34:50Speaker 6: I'm like, why didn't they not just, when they got
- 34:53Speaker 6: to the end of the run, which may have gone
- 34:55Speaker 6: a couple extra seasons and it needed to, but either way.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Did that get to 10 seasons or was this close?
- 35:00Speaker 6: It was at least, yeah, it was nine or 10,
- 35:02Speaker 6: but I'm like, And again, by the time they weren't
- 35:04Speaker 6: in Smallville anymore, it didn't make any sense.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 35:07Speaker 6: And the fact that he never got the suit, like
- 35:09Speaker 6: they just drug it out for so long. So I
- 35:10Speaker 6: was like, when they started getting up to like six
- 35:12Speaker 6: or seven, I was like, okay, the studio's dying to
- 35:16Speaker 6: make a franchise. They want to get it going. Why
- 35:19Speaker 6: not just roll it over? Like they're constantly now trying
- 35:21Speaker 6: to go back and forth between TV and movie. I'm
- 35:24Speaker 6: just like, Tom is a great Clark Kent. Like he
- 35:28Speaker 6: obviously will be great in a suit. With the fancy hairdo. Like,
- 35:32Speaker 6: just give it to him.
- 35:33Speaker 2: I thought Brandon Ruth was an excellent Superman, too. That
- 35:35Speaker 2: wasn't a great movie, but I thought he was pretty good.
- 35:37Speaker 6: At the time, I could not get on board with him.
- 35:40Speaker 6: In years since, I've become okay. Like, he's one of
- 35:43Speaker 6: the better things about that damn Legends of Tomorrow thing.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:47Speaker 6: But, like, it was a... Yeah, I just, at the time,
- 35:50Speaker 6: was not okay with him.
- 35:51Speaker 2: How do you feel about the DC shows as a whole?
- 35:54Speaker 2: I think they do pretty decently with him. Yeah.
- 35:56Speaker 6: Just recently discussed it.
- 35:58Speaker 11: Oh, yeah, okay, sorry.
- 35:59Speaker 6: It seems like every single podcast we end up back there. Yeah.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Like I said, I'm a little bit behind, so apologies.
- 36:05Speaker 6: Yeah, we bitched about a lot of them. I'm still
- 36:08Speaker 6: trying to like The Flash, but they've got problems.
- 36:10Speaker 2: And that freaking new show, the comedy show, is terrible. Powerless.
- 36:16Speaker 6: Yeah, that's one of those, like, I like everybody involved. Like,
- 36:20Speaker 6: it's got so many interesting people.
- 36:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:22Speaker 6: It's actually tied to DC. It really is licensed through them,
- 36:27Speaker 6: and they're referencing their characters, using jokes based around their comics.
- 36:32Speaker 2: It's just not funny. But the villains that actually appear,
- 36:34Speaker 2: like that stupid pumpkin man, whatever it is, it seemed
- 36:37Speaker 2: like a generic one created for the show. It's just
- 36:40Speaker 2: not funny is the problem.
- 36:41Speaker 6: It's a comedy, and everything is off about the comedy.
- 36:46Speaker 2: I was excited about it because I love Better Off Ted,
- 36:48Speaker 2: and it looks like Better Off Ted with superheroes, but
- 36:50Speaker 2: not so much.
- 36:52Speaker 6: All right, next up, the most impressive visuals, CG, practical, whatever,
- 36:57Speaker 6: in a 2016 film. The nominees are Deadpool, Rogue One,
- 37:05Speaker 6: The Jungle Book, Arrival, and the winner is Kubo and
- 37:12Speaker 6: the Two Strings. Which again, anything putting that much work, anything...
- 37:19Speaker 6: Going that out of their way to make something look cool.
- 37:23Speaker 6: I don't know. I'm always impressed with stop motion.
- 37:26Speaker 2: You should put a little two-string guitar solo in right
- 37:29Speaker 2: after that.
- 37:31Speaker 6: I think they had one of those. It's in the movie.
- 37:34Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Mo Gibson's talking.
- 37:38Speaker 6: Stop him. Stop him. He'll say something horrible.
- 37:42Speaker 4: He looks like Bilbo Baggins when he has that moment
- 37:46Speaker 4: that he hisses.
- 37:47Speaker 2: You had me at Bilbo. I already started laughing.
- 37:51Speaker 6: You know what just occurred to me? Like four hours
- 37:57Speaker 6: in here, the Oscar still hasn't started.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Now, is this Mel Gibson's girlfriend or daughter?
- 38:05Speaker 6: You're not supposed to ask those questions. Says Hollywood, you
- 38:10Speaker 6: learned to not ask that. Oh, man.
- 38:14Speaker 2: The 30 Rock parody of that, the whole Mel Gibson
- 38:18Speaker 2: fiasco was hilarious.
- 38:20Speaker 6: When you're working the red carpet, you go, and who
- 38:22Speaker 6: are you with tonight? You don't walk into that trap.
- 38:25Speaker 6: You let them describe what's going on.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Here you go, young Miss Gibson.
- 38:32Speaker 6: Nope, because then she's not his wife. You'll get yourself
- 38:37Speaker 6: in trouble then. No, Miss Gibson's at home. Shh, don't
- 38:40Speaker 6: tell her. She's not watching the Oscars. All right, next up,
- 38:47Speaker 6: we have the most obnoxious use of CGI in a
- 38:50Speaker 6: 2016 film. I thought that was a good category.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good category.
- 38:55Speaker 6: So, the nominees are Warcraft, which I'm going to go
- 39:01Speaker 6: ahead and throw in this comment. Unwatchable CG garbage. He
- 39:06Speaker 6: goes on to say, Warcraft hurts more because Duncan Jones' involvement.
- 39:10Speaker 6: Duncan Jones' name on Warcraft tricked me into giving it
- 39:13Speaker 6: a shot.
- 39:14Speaker 8: Arrgh!
- 39:15Speaker 4: My eyes!
- 39:17Speaker 6: Once again, the best comments come from that unnamed character.
- 39:21Speaker 4: I'm going to say you used to play World of
- 39:26Speaker 4: Warcraft because.
- 39:27Speaker 6: You were trying to be cool.
- 39:30Speaker 4: But everything but uh you know you always relapse eventually
- 39:35Speaker 4: but yeah seeing just like the preview i didn't i
- 39:37Speaker 4: didn't see the movie because i was like i know
- 39:39Speaker 4: it's gonna be bad i feel like it's trailers i
- 39:42Speaker 4: was like you could make them look Like, they look
- 39:45Speaker 4: better in the cut scenes of World of Warcraft than
- 39:48Speaker 4: they did in the previews.
- 39:50Speaker 6: That's the other thing. Like, I really do. Like, Duncan
- 39:52Speaker 6: Jones seems pretty cool and kind of like an interesting
- 39:56Speaker 6: guy that was going to, on a run of picking
- 40:00Speaker 6: really interesting direction as far as topics and movies. Oh, wait,
- 40:04Speaker 6: I'm distracted. Emma Stone's talking. Anyway, but no, I was
- 40:09Speaker 6: surprised that he went from doing stuff like Moon... To
- 40:13Speaker 6: doing this massive production with all this, I'm assuming, studio involvement. Wait, wait.
- 40:19Speaker 4: He did Moon?
- 40:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 40:21Speaker 4: I love Moon.
- 40:22Speaker 6: Do that math.
- 40:23Speaker 2: Moon and Source Code.
- 40:25Speaker 6: Which, again, Source Code's a bigger studio property. It was
- 40:27Speaker 6: really good, though. But it's still kind of a weird
- 40:30Speaker 6: idea that I can see him getting behind.
- 40:32Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 40:33Speaker 6: Warcraft, just trying to do an adaptation of Warcraft just
- 40:37Speaker 6: seems so generic.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I think he's a really big gamer. I think he's
- 40:40Speaker 2: a Warcraft fan.
- 40:41Speaker 6: I think I heard that. I guess that's okay.
- 40:45Speaker 2: I know Raimi was supposed to do it forever. I
- 40:48Speaker 2: don't know what happened there, but I don't think Raimi
- 40:51Speaker 2: was into Warcraft at all. I think he just wanted
- 40:52Speaker 2: to make a fantasy movie.
- 40:53Speaker 6: The deck's just stacked against you. Why bother? I don't know.
- 40:56Speaker 4: There's lots of material to work with to make a
- 40:59Speaker 4: movie with Warcraft.
- 41:00Speaker 6: There's so much lore that you can work with.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Make a full CG movie.
- 41:05Speaker 6: Or just make your own medieval movie. You can make
- 41:10Speaker 6: other stuff with orcs and shit in it. There's plenty
- 41:12Speaker 6: of it out there. Look at the fantasy novels. There's
- 41:14Speaker 6: a lot of them.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Make a movie called Orcs and Shit.
- 41:16Speaker 6: Orcs and Shit. Coming soon. Studio, start sending me money.
- 41:21Speaker 6: I will make a terrible CG-filled movie.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Just send me a lot of money. Look for a
- 41:24Speaker 2: Kickstarter for Orcs and Shit.
- 41:25Speaker 6: I will win my own foiler. I don't care. All right.
- 41:29Speaker 6: We've gotten distracted once again. The next option. And I
- 41:33Speaker 6: just saw this. I'm glad I did, but I'll allow it.
- 41:38Speaker 6: It was certainly there. The headshots in John Wick 2.
- 41:43Speaker 6: There's a lot of slinging CG blood around. Now, granted,
- 41:46Speaker 6: he kills 4,000 people. So there's a lot of blood
- 41:49Speaker 6: to deal with. I understand you got to work in
- 41:52Speaker 6: when you got to work in. I understand it. But
- 41:55Speaker 6: some of it looked pretty bad. Other than that, it's
- 41:58Speaker 6: a fun movie. I still might be partial to the
- 42:00Speaker 6: first one, but it's pretty damn entertaining.
- 42:01Speaker 2: I loved it. Yeah.
- 42:02Speaker 6: It's so entertaining. All right. So the next ones were
- 42:06Speaker 6: runners up. We had a couple of them tied for
- 42:08Speaker 6: second place. First up is, and I like this is
- 42:11Speaker 6: the way they worded it. All that nonsense at the
- 42:14Speaker 6: end of suicide squad. Yep. That's pretty much the weird dancing,
- 42:18Speaker 6: swirling tornado and rock dudes. And it was a bunch
- 42:22Speaker 6: of crap. I just, again, all the CG stuff is
- 42:25Speaker 6: where most of that goes.
- 42:27Speaker 2: Horribly, horribly wrong. Yeah.
- 42:29Speaker 6: Also, the writing's questionable. But there's a lot of bad
- 42:32Speaker 6: CG in there. Speaking of a lot of bad CG,
- 42:36Speaker 6: the doomsday fight in Batman v Superman. Oh, gosh. Which,
- 42:40Speaker 6: once again, like, what? There's a way to do a
- 42:44Speaker 6: finale in a superhero movie without giant CG bullshit. Like,
- 42:48Speaker 6: there is. I know there is. Occasionally I've seen it.
- 42:51Speaker 6: Not very often. But it doesn't matter. Because the winner
- 42:57Speaker 6: is kind of. I kind of see it. A lot
- 43:00Speaker 6: of people had issues. The digital actors in Rogue One.
- 43:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:05Speaker 6: We have a couple of comments here. First up on, again,
- 43:10Speaker 6: spoilers if you didn't know, there are digital actors in
- 43:13Speaker 6: Rogue One. But we're going to name both of them here.
- 43:16Speaker 6: On Leia, the brightly lit Leia looked rubbery and just wrong.
- 43:21Speaker 6: It really reminded me of what they did with Jeff
- 43:23Speaker 6: Bridges in 2010's Tron Legacy.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Oh, that was terrible.
- 43:25Speaker 6: They de-aged him to play Clue. In Tron's defense, though,
- 43:28Speaker 6: Clue wasn't supposed to be human, so you could almost
- 43:31Speaker 6: forgive it. The effect didn't look any better six years later,
- 43:34Speaker 6: which is kind of a shame because having Leia there
- 43:36Speaker 6: at the end was a nice touch.
- 43:38Speaker 4: I kind of see the de-aging thing because now that
- 43:41Speaker 4: I'm thinking about it, Leia did look like how Orlando
- 43:45Speaker 4: Bloom looked in the Hobbit series and how Gandalf.
- 43:50Speaker 6: So she's an elf?
- 43:52Speaker 1: Huh?
- 43:52Speaker 6: She's an elf?
- 43:54Speaker 2: No.
- 43:54Speaker 6: No.
- 43:54Speaker 4: I'm just saying Legolas looked creepy and glowy, but still
- 43:58Speaker 4: looked older when he was supposed to look younger. But yeah,
- 44:02Speaker 4: I don't know why they made her look so bright.
- 44:06Speaker 6: It was bright. Now on Tarkin, this other comment comes.
- 44:12Speaker 6: This crash into the uncanny valley. If they'd stopped at
- 44:16Speaker 6: one scene, I might have let it slide at this
- 44:18Speaker 6: failed experiment. But the continued use of his presence is
- 44:22Speaker 6: the best example of obnoxious use I can remember. Are
- 44:26Speaker 6: we going to have to consider this fate when we
- 44:27Speaker 6: prepare our wills now? Which I believe we did address
- 44:30Speaker 6: that in our very special Rogue One episode. You can
- 44:34Speaker 6: hear it right now at the Patreon page. Just saying. Plug, plug.
- 44:39Speaker 6: Support the show.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Money.
- 44:41Speaker 3: Money, please.
- 44:42Speaker 6: The only way we survive. I mean, these hot dogs
- 44:45Speaker 6: ain't cheap, damn it.
- 44:46Speaker 1: No.
- 44:47Speaker 6: These are top quality dogs. I got to buy Oscar
- 44:51Speaker 6: Mayer brand baloney.
- 44:52Speaker 4: That shit is good.
- 44:53Speaker 2: That's a good wiener.
- 44:54Speaker 6: You got to get the high quality stuff.
- 44:56Speaker 2: That's a real good wiener.
- 44:57Speaker 6: I'm telling you. It costs money, man.
- 45:00Speaker 4: Oh, Justin is singing.
- 45:01Speaker 6: Oh, no, Justin.
- 45:02Speaker 2: That's a troll song.
- 45:04Speaker 6: You need to turn it up. You need to crank
- 45:06Speaker 6: that shit up.
- 45:07Speaker 4: Crank it.
- 45:07Speaker 6: I can't get over there. I just want to see him.
- 45:09Speaker 6: You know what?
- 45:10Speaker 4: Maybe seeing him dance is enough.
- 45:12Speaker 2: Are these just people that showed up with Justin, or
- 45:13Speaker 2: are they dancers?
- 45:14Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 45:15Speaker 4: I think people are just inspired.
- 45:17Speaker 6: If their choreography's off, they probably just stood up behind him.
- 45:21Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, like she just did.
- 45:23Speaker 6: I just want fancy-dressed ladies following me around when I
- 45:25Speaker 6: go places. That's a good idea, everybody.
- 45:33Speaker 4: Please stop me from eating all these chips.
- 45:35Speaker 6: Let's all take a break and go reload on port.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:41Speaker 6: Justin keep dancing us out.
- 45:44Speaker 12: I might lose control and fly so high I don't
- 45:47Speaker 12: see them when I'm in my sound Cause I got
- 45:50Speaker 12: that sunshine in my pocket Got that good soul in
- 45:54Speaker 12: my feet Feel that hot blood in my body When
- 45:57Speaker 12: it drops like I can't take my eyes off of
- 46:01Speaker 12: it Moving so phenomenally Move more like a baby rocket So.
- 46:07Speaker 8: Don't stop Under the lights When everything goes No matter how.
- 46:20Speaker 10: So just imagine.
- 46:21Speaker 8: From the bottom to the top, let me hear you, Hollywood.
- 46:25Speaker 6: Can't stop it.
- 46:26Speaker 2: Can't stop it.
- 46:27Speaker 8: Can't stop it.
- 46:35Speaker 6: Can't stop it.

- 46:57Speaker 10: I'll say, cause Oscar Mayer has a way with B-L-O-G-N-A.
- 47:04Speaker 2: Oscar Mayer, the first name in baloney.

- 49:07Speaker 6: 99, and you get... And you're probably not going to

- 49:12Speaker 4: Yeah, you need our commentary to figure out what to
- 49:15Speaker 4: watch on Netflix.

- 50:37Speaker 5: Our big pictures this year have had some intriguing themes. Sex, persecution, adultery,
- 50:43Speaker 5: and cannibalism. We'll get those kids away from their TV
- 50:46Speaker 5: sets yet, I want to tell you.
- 50:53Speaker 9: That.
- 50:53Speaker 2: Hi, this is Louis Gossett Jr.
- 50:54Speaker 6: This is Movie Meltdown. Movie Meltdown.
- 51:07Speaker 13: One goal, one mission, one heart, one soul, just one
- 51:17Speaker 13: soul to shine, one flash of light. Thank you.
- 51:36Speaker 11: City of stars, are you shining just for me? City
- 51:47Speaker 11: of stars, there's so much that I can't see. Who knows,
- 51:59Speaker 11: is this the start of something wonderful I know? Oh,
- 52:06Speaker 11: one more dream that I cannot make true.
- 52:13Speaker 2: So has Cuba fully bounced back from, wasn't he in
- 52:18Speaker 2: the second daddy daycare? Was he in both daddy daycares?
- 52:20Speaker 6: I don't care. He's a douchebag. Are you saying that
- 52:24Speaker 6: because he hangs out here all the time? Yeah, and
- 52:27Speaker 6: he's like creeped on my friends.
- 52:28Speaker 2: Oh, he hangs out in Louisville?
- 52:30Speaker 6: Every six months or so, I hear a story about
- 52:32Speaker 6: him drunk in Louisville.
- 52:33Speaker 2: Oh, wow. I did not know that.
- 52:35Speaker 4: And he's a total fucking creep when he's here.
- 52:39Speaker 6: He was hitting on one of my friends at back door.
- 52:43Speaker 6: I'm like, no problem.
- 52:46Speaker 4: She honestly didn't even recognize him at first. And she
- 52:50Speaker 4: was like, whatever, not into it. And he's like, I'm famous.
- 52:55Speaker 2: He's like that guy.
- 53:00Speaker 6: That's always a cool move. You know that.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:02Speaker 6: When you have to tell people.
- 53:03Speaker 2: Remember, I'm the show me the money guy. And now
- 53:06Speaker 2: that people show me just a little bit of money,
- 53:07Speaker 2: I'll be in their movie.
- 53:09Speaker 4: And then so he was rude and then he walked away.
- 53:11Speaker 4: But then his buddy slash wingman came over and he
- 53:15Speaker 4: was like, you know, sorry.
- 53:16Speaker 2: Was it Tom Cruise?
- 53:20Speaker 6: Was it Keith Urban? That's what I'm wondering. Sorry, my
- 53:24Speaker 6: friend's such a douchebag. Here's $ 20.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Nicole's not here, so I'll go ahead and apologize for her, too.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Here's another $ 20.
- 53:33Speaker 4: But, I mean, that was good for playing OJ. I
- 53:35Speaker 4: was like, yeah, you seem kind of sleazy and dishonest.
- 53:38Speaker 2: I'll have to watch that. Just the concept sounded good.
- 53:41Speaker 2: I love TV movies, even if they're bad.
- 53:46Speaker 6: I've actually heard really good things, just as far as
- 53:48Speaker 6: it being surprisingly good. Dramatic.
- 53:50Speaker 2: The cast was pretty good.
- 53:51Speaker 6: A real story, yeah.
- 53:52Speaker 2: The cast was pretty good. I mean, I know Cuba's
- 53:54Speaker 2: not doing well these days, but it seemed like there
- 53:56Speaker 2: were some other people in it that were pretty good.
- 53:59Speaker 6: All right, and we're back. We had to take our
- 54:00Speaker 6: pork break. Pork break was necessary, man. Next up, and
- 54:06Speaker 6: it does kind of come with a spoiler at the end,
- 54:10Speaker 6: but once again, I'll try to tread as lightly as
- 54:12Speaker 6: I can. Best kill in a film in 2016. Yeah.
- 54:18Speaker 6: First up, we have a smartass. That one death in
- 54:22Speaker 6: Hardcore Henry. I believe it's much like John Wick. Every
- 54:25Speaker 6: 15 seconds or so, they kill another person.
- 54:27Speaker 2: I have not seen that, but I've heard of it.
- 54:29Speaker 6: Yeah, that one death. Smartass. The cooking scene in Sausage Party,
- 54:34Speaker 6: which is also kind of how you could bill tonight.
- 54:37Speaker 6: It's more of a bacon party, really. The highway fall
- 54:41Speaker 6: to pavement in The Nice Guys. Which, again, that's another
- 54:44Speaker 6: one I had to go, wait, when did that come out? Like,
- 54:46Speaker 6: it really wasn't that long ago, but it feels like
- 54:49Speaker 6: it was a long damn time ago. So it's been
- 54:51Speaker 6: a good year for Ryan, by the way. Next up,
- 54:54Speaker 6: the Deadpool highway shootings. But the winner is, we're going
- 55:00Speaker 6: to say, the sniper shot in Heller Highwater.
- 55:04Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. That was a good one.
- 55:06Speaker 4: That was a good one.
- 55:07Speaker 6: I felt like we saw it coming, but, you know.
- 55:11Speaker 4: But it was still like, I had adrenaline going. Like
- 55:15Speaker 4: I was there.
- 55:16Speaker 6: Felt like that one wasn't quite as surprising for me,
- 55:19Speaker 6: but it's still a hell of a moment. Definitely.
- 55:21Speaker 2: All right.
- 55:24Speaker 6: We did just see Jeff Bridges not win an Academy Award.
- 55:28Speaker 4: Yeah. Which, you know what? That's fine. I love that
- 55:33Speaker 4: Cowboy character.
- 55:34Speaker 6: He does.
- 55:35Speaker 4: But it's, you know.
- 55:36Speaker 6: I brought that up. I think we were waiting to
- 55:38Speaker 6: record on a Redesit episode, and they were talking about,
- 55:41Speaker 6: I think it was getting ready to come on, and
- 55:42Speaker 6: they were talking about it. I was like, I like
- 55:44Speaker 6: so many other people, but I'm like, I feel like
- 55:48Speaker 6: it's just kind of business as usual for Jeff Bridges. Like,
- 55:51Speaker 6: he's not bad. Everything about what he's doing is fine,
- 55:55Speaker 6: but it's like, it just got so much hype, and
- 55:57Speaker 6: I'm like, everybody else on that whole cast is so good.
- 56:01Speaker 6: His partner is so cool. Oh, I know. And is so, like,
- 56:06Speaker 6: impressively balancing the kind of knowing bullshit that Jeff Bridges
- 56:11Speaker 6: is doing. So I'm like, I think he's Equally as
- 56:14Speaker 6: deserving as.
- 56:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I was kind of like, wait, but what about
- 56:17Speaker 4: that guy?
- 56:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I thought that guy was... What's his name? I
- 56:20Speaker 6: think I added him on Twitter. No, I don't remember
- 56:25Speaker 6: what the hell it was. I know he's been in
- 56:27Speaker 6: a lot of stuff over the years. I'd like to
- 56:30Speaker 6: take this moment to discuss how cute Brie Larson is.
- 56:33Speaker 6: All right. Done.
- 56:36Speaker 4: You discussed it.
- 56:37Speaker 6: Prerequisite. Need to be said. All right, are we ready?
- 56:41Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 56:42Speaker 6: Next up, we have the best villain in a 2016 film.
- 56:46Speaker 6: The nominees are, and there are some pretty damn good
- 56:50Speaker 6: ones in here. First off, John Goodman in 10 Cloverfield
- 56:54Speaker 6: Lane is awesome. Like again, I always know, damn, he's
- 56:59Speaker 6: a good actor. And then I'll see his next movie
- 57:01Speaker 6: and I'll be like, God, he is still just turning
- 57:04Speaker 6: in these amazing performances. Next up, the Ghost Sisters in
- 57:10Speaker 6: Kubo and the Two Strings. I like when we get
- 57:13Speaker 6: a little creative. The man in Don't Breathe. I like
- 57:17Speaker 6: that he's just that weird old dude.
- 57:21Speaker 2: Oh, yes.
- 57:21Speaker 4: I'm a little turkey baster.
- 57:24Speaker 6: See? That's another one of those indie horror movies. I'm
- 57:29Speaker 6: on board. If you can put together something like that,
- 57:32Speaker 6: that whole movie is just so... That was top tier.
- 57:35Speaker 6: I went in with pretty decent expectations, but that delivered.
- 57:41Speaker 6: It's a hell of a movie. All right. And the
- 57:44Speaker 6: big runner up with quite a few votes, no surprise,
- 57:48Speaker 6: Darth Vader in Rogue One. Yeah. Still by far the winner.
- 57:53Speaker 6: And I got to say, most of the time I
- 57:55Speaker 6: try to be impartial. I try to stay out of this.
- 57:58Speaker 6: But as I'm totaling them, I started seeing the votes
- 58:00Speaker 6: come in. I'm like, all right, I'm really pulling for you, dude.
- 58:04Speaker 6: Patrick Stewart in Green Room.
- 58:06Speaker 2: Yes.
- 58:06Speaker 6: Yes. it's awesome because he's, and I think I was
- 58:11Speaker 6: pulling even extra hard because we just did that whole
- 58:14Speaker 6: episode on villains and really nobody, I think it's too new.
- 58:18Speaker 6: I think everybody was trying to pull, I pulled a
- 58:20Speaker 6: couple from more recent years, but like everybody was going
- 58:23Speaker 6: old school, but I'm like, he's so good in that
- 58:27Speaker 6: because he also doesn't overdo it. Like you're playing a neo-Nazi,
- 58:32Speaker 6: like it's pretty easy to like go over the top,
- 58:34Speaker 6: but like he's so subdued and, you also buy him
- 58:39Speaker 6: as kind of a regular character. Like he really is
- 58:42Speaker 6: like a human being. He's just doing horrible, horrible things
- 58:47Speaker 6: because that's the situation they're in. And he's decided this
- 58:50Speaker 6: is what they need to do. But I'm like, it's,
- 58:52Speaker 6: I think that's what makes it so powerful is that
- 58:55Speaker 6: he is a real person and feels like there's probably
- 58:59Speaker 6: a lot of guys out there doing the kind of
- 59:01Speaker 6: shit that he does. So I back John Goodman.
- 59:03Speaker 4: I still love John Goodman.
- 59:05Speaker 6: He's my favorite villain of the year. I mean, I
- 59:07Speaker 6: still thought that was a great performance. And again, super.
- 59:11Speaker 4: I don't know, Darth Vader, that's decades old.
- 59:12Speaker 6: That's obvious. I mean, but that's obvious. Look at his outfit.
- 59:16Speaker 2: If you're looking at challenging, Darth Vader, anybody could phone
- 59:19Speaker 2: that in pretty much.
- 59:20Speaker 6: I mean, that's a great scene. Don't get me wrong.
- 59:22Speaker 6: That scene is badass. It is great. But at the
- 59:24Speaker 6: same time, I'm like.
- 59:25Speaker 4: John Goodman developed this.
- 59:27Speaker 6: He fleshed out this complex.
- 59:30Speaker 4: Just the most terrifying human being possible.
- 59:34Speaker 6: Well, and again, I think because it's so layered, like
- 59:37Speaker 6: that one works. Because he's, at moments, not terrifying. At moments,
- 59:42Speaker 6: you're like, no, he's all right. He's a good guy.
- 59:46Speaker 6: You get into moments where you're like, no, maybe I
- 59:48Speaker 6: was just sort of reading into this. Maybe. And I think, again,
- 59:51Speaker 6: there's something to being able to pull off a performance
- 59:54Speaker 6: with that kind of humanity to it.
- 59:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 59:57Speaker 6: Oh, there was our discussion last time. Suicide Squad is
- 1:00:00Speaker 6: nominated for an Oscar.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: Best makeup.
- 1:00:04Speaker 6: I mean, again, rightfully so. Look at Killer Croc. Like,
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: that's great fucking makeup.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: It'd be hilarious if it was Suicide Squad.
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: Oscar winner, Suicide Squad. Just saying.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: Look at that guy. He looks like Richard Branson stayed
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: in a tanning bed too long.
- 1:00:25Speaker 6: Fred, I thought we was going to watch the awards
- 1:00:27Speaker 6: show tonight. Awards show?
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: Yeah. Another one?
- 1:00:30Speaker 6: Which one is it this time? Well, Fred, this is
- 1:00:33Speaker 6: the one that we've been waiting on. It's the Best
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: Monster Movie Award.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Well, listen, is Gork up for anything?
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 1:00:42Speaker 11: He's up for the most painful death from a single
- 1:00:45Speaker 11: bite by a swamp monster.
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: So next up is Best Monster in a 2016 film
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: The nominees are Godzilla and Shin Godzilla, which has anybody seen?
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: I'm assuming most people haven't. So maybe that's why it's
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: not pulling in all the votes on this one. The
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: giant skeleton in Kubo and the Two Strings, which is
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: a giant. I watched the behind the scenes. He's a
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: huge freaking skeleton that they built in the real world.
- 1:01:13Speaker 6: So that's awesome already. A Monster Calls, who I, again,
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: I feel like looks a little too much like Groot.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I can see that.
- 1:01:21Speaker 6: I can't, I mean, I'm assuming Groot's been around longer, right?
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: I mean, in the comic series, he kind of looked
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: like that too.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: Yeah, the book's not super old, but the book is
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: really good. But yeah, the voice work's really good, like
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: you said.
- 1:01:34Speaker 6: Yeah, the voice work is awesome. Like, Liam already kind
- 1:01:37Speaker 6: of sounds like that, so he doesn't really have to.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: Do a voice. He's just Liam Neeson. Yeah, the monster
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: design wasn't great, but I do definitely suggest that movie.
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: And I think the story looks really interesting. I just hadn't, again,
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: I hadn't gotten around to it yet, but I Just
- 1:01:51Speaker 6: for the basic idea, like, it looks kind of cool. Yeah.
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: I'm still leaning, you know, my other pushes for the
- 1:02:00Speaker 6: monster because I feel like not near enough people have
- 1:02:02Speaker 6: seen it. So this is the woodlawn demon in the monster,
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: which I just kind of heard about it recently and
- 1:02:09Speaker 6: was like, okay, I want to find that one and
- 1:02:11Speaker 6: watched it and was, like, amazed because it's, like, a
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: good 60% indie drama. Like, it is... a lot of
- 1:02:21Speaker 6: like relationship drama in this broken ass family. And in
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: the middle of that, a giant freaking physical monster, like,
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: and none of it's CG. Like they built almost too much.
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: Like they all, I feel like towards the end, I'm like,
- 1:02:36Speaker 6: I actually could have dialed back. Like there's a good
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: amount of monster that comes into play that I'm like,
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: you kind of could have even left a little to
- 1:02:43Speaker 6: the imagination and not had to build so much. But like,
- 1:02:46Speaker 6: Points to them for physically building a monster. It's just
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: extra plug because most people haven't heard of it. So
- 1:02:52Speaker 6: go watch the monster.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm looking at it on IMDb. It looks pretty cool.
- 1:02:54Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a cool monster. But the winner is, and
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: I liked it just for the originality for this choice,
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: Black Phillip in The Vovich. It's not my fault they
- 1:03:07Speaker 6: spelled it that way. Damn it, I have to read
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: the title. The Vovich. It is a good choice, though.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: Definitely.
- 1:03:16Speaker 6: To make that image as frightening as it is, just
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: to have that close-up shot of Black Phillip be as
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: disturbing an image as it is, I'm like, points to
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: the director. Like, that's cool.
- 1:03:31Speaker 10: Black Phillip, safe.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: You are wicked.
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: You need to take a minute to make fun of
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: Jimmy Kimmel.
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: I would need hours.
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: I've never been on board with Jimmy Kimmel. I don't know.
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: It Fake as fuck. Just going back to the freaking
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: man show days. I didn't think he was funny then.
- 1:03:49Speaker 6: I didn't understand how he got his own talk show.
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: And that was when there were only like three. There
- 1:03:55Speaker 6: were a handful of shows out there and they just
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: gave him this huge time slot. And now I still
- 1:04:02Speaker 6: feel like the only reason to watch it is because
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: he's banking on his famous friends. Once again, it's just
- 1:04:07Speaker 6: kind of like, hey, look at all these people I know.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: Was that a new show or did he get somebody's
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: old show? I can't remember.
- 1:04:12Speaker 6: I feel like it was.
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: Was it? I can't even remember now.
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: Because it's The Tonight Show, right?
- 1:04:17Speaker 6: No. Jimmy Fallon's got The Tonight Show. No. It might
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: have been one, just the other network was trying to compete.
- 1:04:28Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: Oh, Janelle.
- 1:04:31Speaker 6: Yep, I never understood it. Next up is Best Action
- 1:04:35Speaker 6: Sequence in a 2016 Film. The nominees are Hardcore Henry,
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: Nominated specifically for its sheer length. The entire movie is
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: just an action sequence.
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: It's all first person, too.
- 1:04:50Speaker 6: Yeah, which makes it even harder to shoot that and
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: maybe not kill some people. I think it's still questionable
- 1:04:57Speaker 6: whether they killed a couple of dudes in Russia that
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: nobody really knows about. There's a lot of dudes in Russia.
- 1:05:03Speaker 6: They can get more. Next up. Rogue One and Rogue
- 1:05:08Speaker 6: One got a lot of nominations, but everyone went in
- 1:05:11Speaker 6: entirely different directions. So, again, this is why, you know,
- 1:05:14Speaker 6: you guys got to get your act together and all
- 1:05:16Speaker 6: go in the same direction because we had stuff for
- 1:05:19Speaker 6: the ending explosion, the, like, you know, flying the battle
- 1:05:25Speaker 6: in that we always see in every freaking Star Wars movie. Also,
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: this one I actually like, the chase through the ship
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: to get the plans. I thought that stuff's actually really cool.
- 1:05:34Speaker 6: I like that. And as well, more votes for Darth
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: Vader chops his way down the hall. But none of them,
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: you know, everybody went in different directions. So next up
- 1:05:44Speaker 6: is the car exhibit shootout in The Nice Guys. Once again,
- 1:05:48Speaker 6: that movie, I feel like did not get enough attention
- 1:05:52Speaker 6: at the time. Ryan's had a hell of a year
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: because he said two movies come out. And to me,
- 1:05:58Speaker 6: The Nice Guys is a way better role for him.
- 1:06:02Speaker 6: I think he's like, A lot more impressive in The
- 1:06:04Speaker 6: Nice Guys than in the, you know, nominated, blah, blah, whatever.
- 1:06:09Speaker 8: Right.
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: He's just his normal self in there. But The Nice Guys,
- 1:06:13Speaker 6: he pulls off some, like, comedic chops that I don't
- 1:06:16Speaker 6: think I knew he had. Like, he's legitimately funny if
- 1:06:19Speaker 6: given the right material. And he can just sort of
- 1:06:22Speaker 6: hone in on this ridiculous, silly character.
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: OJ won.
- 1:06:27Speaker 6: Well, he can't accept it. He's in prison.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: That eight-hour documentary you were telling us about.
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: That is a lengthy document.
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: It's like they just put it in theaters so that
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: it would be eligible for an Oscar nomination.
- 1:06:40Speaker 6: I've heard it's pretty damn good, actually.
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: Yeah. I'm just saying that they did it that way
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: so that.
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: That's how everybody does it, really. That's... Again, that's... Is this.
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: The one that was on Netflix recently? Or was that
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: the Qubit? I think there's another.
- 1:06:53Speaker 6: There's a lot of crazy O.J. stuff going on right now.
- 1:06:56Speaker 6: I think the O.J.
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: Thing is on Hulu. This documentary, I think.
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: I'd like to think O.J., So, the runner-up, which did
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: get quite a few nominations, but not enough to win,
- 1:07:07Speaker 6: the airport fight in Captain America Civil War. Which, to me,
- 1:07:12Speaker 6: is really the weak point in that movie. I like
- 1:07:14Speaker 6: a lot of what's going on in that movie, but
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: the airport fight's not the most impressive, in my opinion.
- 1:07:19Speaker 6: But the end fight's awesome. But the winner is the
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: freeway scene in Deadpool. I can't argue. I mean... For
- 1:07:30Speaker 6: what Deadpool is, that scene encapsulates everything. The reason they
- 1:07:36Speaker 6: put that together is the test footage, essentially, to get
- 1:07:39Speaker 6: the funding for the movie. You saw that scene two
- 1:07:42Speaker 6: years before the movie ever got made because Ryan was like, look,
- 1:07:46Speaker 6: I will go shoot this. I'll do whatever it takes
- 1:07:48Speaker 6: to make this movie happen. Let's show people we can
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: deliver the Deadpool that they want. And it worked because
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: we got Deadpool.
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: What are your all's favorite action scenes from a Marvel movie?
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: Like your number one choice.
- 1:08:01Speaker 6: Just Marvel in general?
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: Yeah. I, in Marvel, I love Hulk scenes.
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: Hulk scenes are my jam. When Hulk gets scary Hulk.
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: Those are my favorite action scenes.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: That's pretty awesome.
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: The first movie, the first Avengers smashing through the ship.
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: Smashing this, yeah.
- 1:08:23Speaker 6: That's pretty damn creepy. That's a horror movie right there. Yeah,
- 1:08:25Speaker 6: there's moments when I'm just like, oh yeah, he's one
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: of the heroes.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:29Speaker 6: Like, it's a little creepy. The whole, like, from Black
- 1:08:33Speaker 6: Widow's perspective is a little creepy. Yeah.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: I think my favorite would be, like, the end of Ant-Man. Like,
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: the Thomas the Tank Engine, all that stuff. I love
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: how they incorporated all that stuff into, like, toys. Like,
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: all the traditional train cop chases and all that.
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: Ant-Man was further down on the list for me just
- 1:08:49Speaker 6: of Marvel movies, but the end fight scene's pretty damn awesome.
- 1:08:52Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: And where they stop over the iPhone or the iPod touch,
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: whatever it was, and they stop on it the music
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: starts playing.
- 1:08:59Speaker 6: It was a nice tie in. And I believe was
- 1:09:03Speaker 6: our winner of the foiler last year. The song use. Nice.
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: But I'll go with anything like the group Avengers fight,
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: you know, even the first one, even though, again, I
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: think those villains are generic as hell, but like, yeah,
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: just that just following around the city, watching each group
- 1:09:24Speaker 6: member take on somebody and then work together to like battle.
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: And same thing with the opening fight in the second one.
- 1:09:31Speaker 6: Like they, they learned exactly how well that worked and
- 1:09:34Speaker 6: did it again. And maybe even equally as impressive that
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: second time around. So any of those big group fight
- 1:09:41Speaker 6: scenes in any of the Avengers stuff, that's, that's always fun.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: I really like, I love Dan man. Like, I don't know,
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: maybe it's just Paul Rudd's charisma.
- 1:09:50Speaker 6: Paul Rudd's great. I feel like he just didn't have
- 1:09:52Speaker 6: enough to do. I wanted to know more about his character.
- 1:09:56Speaker 6: I feel like I knew just as much, if not more,
- 1:09:58Speaker 6: about the Michael Douglas character. It's like they didn't even
- 1:10:01Speaker 6: focus on the main guy in their own movie. It
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: was my issue. I feel like there was more they
- 1:10:07Speaker 6: could have done with that.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: That was some CG aging that was actually pretty good,
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: I thought.
- 1:10:12Speaker 6: De-aging?
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: Or de-aging, right?
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: Yeah, because they went in like 20 years ago or something.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:10:18Speaker 6: Just slightly de-aged Michael Douglas.
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: Oh, when they de-aged Iron Man.
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: That was disturbingly well. Yeah. Like that. I was like,
- 1:10:27Speaker 6: what the hell? Now, granted that, I think they had
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: a lot of footage of him from that time period
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: because he was already an actor. So I think they
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: were using shots from other movies and CG and the
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: hell out of them into stuff. But still, that was
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: the one I was like, wait, did they Did they
- 1:10:44Speaker 6: find unused footage somewhere from one of his old movies? Like,
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: I don't know. All right. I like this classy show
- 1:10:53Speaker 6: that we are. Forget their impressive acting skills. The hottest
- 1:10:56Speaker 6: actor or actress in a 2016 film. First up with
- 1:11:00Speaker 6: the ladies. I like some of these choices, by the way. Because,
- 1:11:04Speaker 6: you know, sometimes you don't get put on the kind
- 1:11:06Speaker 6: of list that we're talking about here when you're Aubrey Plaza.
- 1:11:09Speaker 6: But I like that nominated Aubrey Plaza in Dirty Grandpa,
- 1:11:14Speaker 6: for God's sakes.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: I did not see that one, but I do love
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: Aubrey Plaza.
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: Aubrey Plaza.
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: She's so good in Legion, speaking of superhero stuff. I
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: don't know if you've ever seen that, but she's good
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: in it.
- 1:11:25Speaker 6: When he nominated her, I commended him. I was like,
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: nice choice.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: This one, no surprise, and I like the wording on
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: the movie. Eva Green in, as the nominator put it, Mr.
- 1:11:38Speaker 6: Burton's House of Precocious Children. It's pretty damn funny. I'd
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: kind of see that too, actually. Back to our comment
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: a little while ago. Noticing her on the podium there.
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: Kate McKinnon in Ghostbusters. There's a follow-up comment later that
- 1:11:57Speaker 6: I'll get to. Next up, Blake Lively in The Shallows. Yep,
- 1:12:02Speaker 6: she did spend most of the movie in her bathing suit.
- 1:12:04Speaker 6: Even bleeding, she's kind of attractive. And the winner is,
- 1:12:10Speaker 6: by a relatively wide margin, it is her year, Miss
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: Emma Stone.
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: Miss Emma Stone.
- 1:12:17Speaker 6: You can't go wrong with Miss Emma Stone.
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: Was she in something this year? I'm just kidding.
- 1:12:21Speaker 6: I do like another random nominee, but I just like
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: the comment that came with it because we're all just horrible,
- 1:12:29Speaker 6: shameful people. There was also a vote for Ophelia Lovabond.
- 1:12:35Speaker 6: who I'm not familiar with, and I guess this will
- 1:12:37Speaker 6: explain why if you aren't either, from The Autopsy of
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: Jane Doe, they mention, spends the entire film as a
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: naked corpse on a gurney. I'm so ashamed. Oh, it's okay,
- 1:12:52Speaker 6: anonymous nominator. We all feel that shame. We're all equally
- 1:12:57Speaker 6: as creepy as you. It's all right. I thought that
- 1:12:59Speaker 6: was funny.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: It's like Ann Saylor's, the saddest IMDb movie credit. Do
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: you know about this? She was in one movie credited
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: as woman who urinates.
- 1:13:10Speaker 6: That's what you want on your IMDb.
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: Well, that makes that person feel better.
- 1:13:15Speaker 6: It was fake.
- 1:13:17Speaker 4: She was acting. She wasn't actually dead.
- 1:13:20Speaker 6: Acting. Brilliant.
- 1:13:21Speaker 13: Thank you.
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: Performance was a little stiff.
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: But seriously, folks, a big... Thank you to Emma Stone.
- 1:13:30Speaker 6: If you'd like to come pick up the foiler, I'll
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: have it. You can come by. Just swing by and
- 1:13:36Speaker 6: pick it up and bring your eyes. Yeah, anyway, just saying.
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: You're definitely not like that guy in Don't Breathe.
- 1:13:43Speaker 6: I'm not. Totally not. That girl escaped. I do not
- 1:13:47Speaker 6: have anyone in the basement right now. There's some dogs there.
- 1:13:50Speaker 6: They'll probably jump on me.
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: A couple turkey basters.
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: Fair warning.
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: No turkey basters.
- 1:13:54Speaker 6: No turkey baster. Just two dogs that are going to
- 1:13:56Speaker 6: call the hell out of you. If you're okay with that.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: Oh, that turkey pastry. That's cool.
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: He does have a very large room-sized oven at his disposal, but.
- 1:14:06Speaker 6: You can't prove I'd do anything with that. He only
- 1:14:09Speaker 6: uses it for good. Never mind. Moving on to the gentlemen.
- 1:14:15Speaker 6: And we were kind of short one. It was mostly chicks,
- 1:14:19Speaker 6: but again, in the beginning, I was surprised like people...
- 1:14:23Speaker 6: We used to get mostly girls, and then people started
- 1:14:26Speaker 6: throwing in the guys. And then sometimes people will do both,
- 1:14:29Speaker 6: and I'm like, I didn't really specify. Feel free to
- 1:14:32Speaker 6: put in both if you want. So for future reference,
- 1:14:35Speaker 6: when you all get a hold of me to do
- 1:14:37Speaker 6: this next year, you can put a guy and a girl.
- 1:14:40Speaker 6: Fine with me. I don't care. I like getting both versions.
- 1:14:42Speaker 6: So with the guys, we have Chris Pratt. This one
- 1:14:47Speaker 6: surprised me.
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: Ben Foster.
- 1:14:48Speaker 6: Ben Foster. I like him as an actor, but not
- 1:14:52Speaker 6: like tiger meat material.
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: I think like in... What's he in?
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: Hell or High Water. He's the other brother.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: Yeah, like he had something in that movie.
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: Yeah, I can see. I can see. He's a dude.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: Especially in Hell or High Water where it's like we're men.
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: He's a bad boy. He's a bad boy.
- 1:15:10Speaker 6: And he was like a... Bad boy action.
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: 310 to Yuma, right? He was in that.
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: I can see the cowboy, bad boy charm.
- 1:15:16Speaker 6: He just seems like such a... He's always going to
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: be the super amazing character actor dude.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: From Flash Forward.
- 1:15:23Speaker 6: But yeah, I'm like, you don't get Tiger Beat from him.
- 1:15:28Speaker 6: But who do you? Mr. Ryan Gosling. Nope.
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: Doesn't do a damn thing for me.
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: Everybody loves old Mouseketeer Ryan Gosling. And we were kind
- 1:15:39Speaker 6: of short once, so I'm going to throw your boy
- 1:15:41Speaker 6: Trevante in there. How about that? Trevante! I put it
- 1:15:44Speaker 6: in just for you. My man! Extra bonus points for
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: Trevante Rose. He is the hottest. Perfect. Who some people
- 1:15:51Speaker 6: say are perfect and the hottest dude around.
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: He is perfectly symmetrical. He's the adult version of Sharana
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: in Moonlight.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: Okay, yeah.
- 1:16:03Speaker 6: God damn.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: No love for Clooney and Hail Caesar.
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: Definitely not.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: That Caesar outfit.
- 1:16:10Speaker 6: No hating on Clooney.
- 1:16:12Speaker 4: Wait, so wait, okay, so.
- 1:16:15Speaker 6: So are you going to try to lead off and
- 1:16:16Speaker 6: figure out who the winner is?
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm like, who are my boos?
- 1:16:21Speaker 6: I'm not surprised by it, but I'm kind of, personally,
- 1:16:25Speaker 6: I'm like, eh.
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: Oh, is it going to be Casey Affleck?
- 1:16:28Speaker 6: No. Thank God. Look, he's like an old homeless dude.
- 1:16:31Speaker 6: Come on now. Except he's like 24. He still looks
- 1:16:35Speaker 6: like he's bumming for money somewhere.
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: Was Oscar Isaac in anything this year besides X-Men Apocalypse?
- 1:16:41Speaker 6: Just X-Men Apocalypse, which we decided he's miscast. And has
- 1:16:45Speaker 6: a weird blue face. Power Rangers villain. He kind of was, actually.
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: I can't take credit for that. I saw that on
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: somebody else's commentary, but yeah. Very accurate.
- 1:16:54Speaker 6: Alright, are you ready for the real winner? I mean,
- 1:16:56Speaker 6: you won't be shocked. I won't be shocked. And the
- 1:17:00Speaker 6: winner is... Ryan Reynolds. He's a pretty dude. I'll give
- 1:17:05Speaker 6: it to him. He's pretty. He's old news. He's pretty.
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: He's talented, but he's not striking.
- 1:17:10Speaker 6: He's not. There's nothing like it.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: That movie Buried he was in, that doesn't get talked
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: about enough. I really love that movie.
- 1:17:16Speaker 6: I thought that was good. That's the thing. Nobody cared
- 1:17:19Speaker 6: about that movie when it came out, but I was like,
- 1:17:22Speaker 6: His performance is good and super bonus points to that
- 1:17:25Speaker 6: writer and director for finding a way to tell an
- 1:17:29Speaker 6: entire story stuck in a box.
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: It was intense. I think I actually drove all the
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: way to Indianapolis to see that movie because at the
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: time it was on anywhere near me. I think the
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: very next week it started playing within 30 minutes of
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: my house.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: Bastards!
- 1:17:44Speaker 6: I blame you, Ryan Reynolds! Damn you! Oh well, he's
- 1:17:49Speaker 6: the hottest dude around according to our voters. But as
- 1:17:54Speaker 6: a follow-up, and to tie into our comment earlier, one
- 1:18:00Speaker 6: of the nominators who, this is both of their nominees,
- 1:18:03Speaker 6: my actor choice is Ryan Reynolds, while my actress choice
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: is Kate McKinnon. Both characters are cocky, charming smartasses who
- 1:18:11Speaker 6: love to lick their guns. I guess I gotta type.
- 1:18:15Speaker 6: I will leave them anonymous, as I do with all
- 1:18:17Speaker 6: our nominators. Feel free to make all your shameful comments.
- 1:18:21Speaker 6: I will not even out you.
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: I like Kate McKinnon in Ghostbusters.
- 1:18:24Speaker 6: I do. Again, I've said that. I think that movie...
- 1:18:29Speaker 6: It got a bad rap. I mean, it definitely got
- 1:18:30Speaker 6: a bad rap either way. It's not amazing, but I
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: was entertained by it. I think it's fine.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: The casting stuff, I think, gave it more importance. I mean,
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: it was just a dumb, fun comedy. It wasn't anything
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: trying to make a grand statement. It was just fun.
- 1:18:44Speaker 6: But I think she's the part that's pretty impressive. Most
- 1:18:48Speaker 6: of the acting's fine. I think.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: McCarthy, this is the first movie that I've seen that
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: she didn't pretty much annoy me.
- 1:18:54Speaker 6: She was actually a real human being instead of being
- 1:18:57Speaker 6: a ghostbuster. Spy.
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: I didn't see that.
- 1:19:00Speaker 6: I haven't watched it yet, but I've heard surprisingly good
- 1:19:04Speaker 6: things about Spy.
- 1:19:05Speaker 4: I liked Spy a lot. I laughed out loud.
- 1:19:08Speaker 6: Your show and.
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: Sponsor is so good.
- 1:19:10Speaker 6: It's one of those Kate McKinnon just commits to the
- 1:19:13Speaker 6: ridiculousness of that character.
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: She is so funny.
- 1:19:16Speaker 6: Licking the gun is the subtle things that she does.
- 1:19:20Speaker 6: She's so ridiculous in that. Bonus points for anybody who
- 1:19:24Speaker 6: can just lay into the weirdness of the character. Yep,
- 1:19:28Speaker 6: that's her. She's also seemingly kind of a weird chick,
- 1:19:31Speaker 6: by the way.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:19:34Speaker 6: Next up, the 2016 movie you expected to hate but
- 1:19:38Speaker 6: ended up enjoying. These are sometimes good recommendations. Some of
- 1:19:43Speaker 6: them I don't see coming, like the first nominee, Storks.
- 1:19:49Speaker 6: And I know who put this down, and I'm really
- 1:19:51Speaker 6: shocked by who it was. So if this person liked it,
- 1:19:54Speaker 6: I guess we need to check out Storks. Oh, next up,
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: The Monster, as previously mentioned.
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: It's awesome.
- 1:20:03Speaker 6: Or at least, Way more entertaining than you would expect,
- 1:20:06Speaker 6: I suppose. Don't Breathe, kind of fall into that. I
- 1:20:10Speaker 6: thought the trailer looked good, but I was afraid it
- 1:20:12Speaker 6: was all in the trailer. I thought they just cut
- 1:20:14Speaker 6: a really good trailer. Nope, that movie's great. A cure
- 1:20:18Speaker 6: for wellness. Have you seen A Cure for Wellness? Mm-hmm.
- 1:20:24Speaker 6: Is it a really good trailer? It's a really good trailer.
- 1:20:27Speaker 6: All right, then. Enough said.
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: It's like about three hours long, right?
- 1:20:31Speaker 6: It's long.
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: It felt... It didn't matter what the length was, the
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: movie was.
- 1:20:35Speaker 6: Does it all look really good? Because visually, it looks amazing.
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: It's all right. Not enough to entertain you for three
- 1:20:44Speaker 6: and a half hours. God. Four hours. Eight hours.
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: So pissed off about that.
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: Next up, Zootopia, which I hear.
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: I need to get around to that.
- 1:20:56Speaker 6: It's one of those... Yeah, I've had it. It's on
- 1:20:58Speaker 6: Netflix now. I'm like, okay... keep hearing relatively good things
- 1:21:01Speaker 6: about it like that it it actually has a story
- 1:21:05Speaker 6: and important themes and.
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: I feel like I feel I have difficulty getting into
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: CG movies like that CG animation not made by Pixar
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: for some reason but I don't know it's just the
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: bias I guess for so long they were the only
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: ones doing it well and I think maybe.
- 1:21:20Speaker 6: I mean it kind of is yeah it's still Disney
- 1:21:25Speaker 6: at this point they own everything you.
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: Know oh okay I didn't realize I was a Disney
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: one too yeah Disney owns Pretty much.
- 1:21:31Speaker 6: It's okay. Again, I trust them. At this point, they
- 1:21:34Speaker 6: know how to make money. They know what to do
- 1:21:36Speaker 6: with their money. I'm not going to argue with them
- 1:21:38Speaker 6: until they start screwing things up. But until then, fine.
- 1:21:41Speaker 6: They can run everything. And the winner is, much to
- 1:21:46Speaker 6: our discussion earlier, Ghostbusters. I was, yeah. I mean, it
- 1:21:52Speaker 6: was one of those, I just went in like, for
- 1:21:54Speaker 6: God's sakes, everybody shut up about it and just play
- 1:21:56Speaker 6: the movie. It can't be as big a deal as
- 1:21:59Speaker 6: you're making it. Get over yourselves.
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: And it was fine. It's like, Kate McKinnon is great.
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: I like Leslie Jones and Leslie Jones is actually, she
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: seems like a really awesome person. Uh, a friend of mine, uh,
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: her little boy has a crush on Leslie Jones and
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: she recorded a video of him. Like when everybody was
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: being mean to her on Twitter, like, uh, and just
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: saying he doesn't like it. I think he was threatening
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: to beat people up that were being mean to her
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: on Twitter. She tweeted it at Leslie Jones. Leslie Jones
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: tweeted back and loved it and sent him a bunch
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: of free Ghostbusters stuff like little kid Ghostbusters t-shirts and
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: autographed pictures and stuff like that. I love hearing stuff
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: like that about actors and being nice to people.
- 1:22:38Speaker 6: That's pretty awesome. Ghostbusters, it's fine. I mean, You shouldn't
- 1:22:45Speaker 6: compare it to the other one, so don't.
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: It's the same fucking movie.
- 1:22:48Speaker 6: It's not the same movie. Granted. I mean, as its
- 1:22:51Speaker 6: own separate movie, I don't think it's as good as
- 1:22:53Speaker 6: that one. But, again, I'm not comparing them as a thing.
- 1:22:56Speaker 6: Just as a comedy.
- 1:22:58Speaker 4: And now it's like we're playing ball in the 2010s comedy.
- 1:23:01Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a very different world. Like, 1984 is a
- 1:23:05Speaker 6: totally different world to be making a comedy in.
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: So the only thing I really didn't like about it
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: was Chris Hemsworth. I thought his bimbo at it, it
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: was funny, but it was overdone.
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: See, I don't know. I kind of went the other way.
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: That was, I think the way that they used them
- 1:23:19Speaker 6: in the second half of it is kind of a waste,
- 1:23:21Speaker 6: but I think he, once again, much like the Kate McKenna, like,
- 1:23:25Speaker 6: He had no problem just laying into the ridiculousness.
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: I mean, it did make me laugh.
- 1:23:30Speaker 6: It was funny. And again, because they're already doing role reversal,
- 1:23:37Speaker 6: we need a Mimbo. Come on, bring him in there.
- 1:23:40Speaker 6: We all know he's pretty.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: Chris Hemsworth didn't make it into the hotties.
- 1:23:46Speaker 6: He's not hot, is he? He's a big old mess.
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: Good lord.
- 1:23:51Speaker 6: Obviously, he's a big old mess. Take that, Ryan Reynolds.
- 1:23:58Speaker 6: We did get a comment, though. It says, Ghostbusters got
- 1:24:02Speaker 6: so much flack, I assumed it was just going to
- 1:24:04Speaker 6: be outright horrible. It had some issues, but I thought
- 1:24:07Speaker 6: it was fine. Stop making me defend this. Who do
- 1:24:09Speaker 6: you think you are? I like when comments yell at me.
- 1:24:14Speaker 6: Or possibly you, the listener. Alright, moving on to maybe
- 1:24:19Speaker 6: my favorite category. Certainly one that it came from a
- 1:24:24Speaker 6: listener years ago. I don't even know if he's around anymore.
- 1:24:27Speaker 6: I rarely hear from him, but his legacy lives on
- 1:24:29Speaker 6: because he created this category and I stick with.
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: It every year.
- 1:24:33Speaker 6: The dreariest study of the human condition in a 2016 film.
- 1:24:40Speaker 6: I love that. And what my favorite part is, I
- 1:24:43Speaker 6: don't spell it out. I'm like, do with that as
- 1:24:45Speaker 6: you will. And sometimes people are like, So you mean
- 1:24:50Speaker 6: like they want to try to clarify and I'm like,
- 1:24:53Speaker 6: for whatever you want. So like sometimes I feel like
- 1:24:56Speaker 6: it comes from the real world. Sometimes it's the movie itself.
- 1:25:00Speaker 6: One of them was like, if by that you mean awesome,
- 1:25:03Speaker 6: I'm like, all right, that's your take on it. Feel free.
- 1:25:07Speaker 6: Read into it as you will. So the nominees are,
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: and again, there's a few sketchy ones here as far
- 1:25:14Speaker 6: as the timeline, but who cares?
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: They didn't win.
- 1:25:16Speaker 6: The Lobster. Which, yes, overseas it opened a long damn
- 1:25:20Speaker 6: time ago. But this year, it was at Sundance in 2016.
- 1:25:23Speaker 6: And it's a weird freaking movie. Possibly the dreariest. But no,
- 1:25:28Speaker 6: it wasn't. Night of Cups. What a surprise. Terrence Malick
- 1:25:33Speaker 6: being dreary and shit.
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: Didn't see either of those.
- 1:25:38Speaker 6: This one.
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: Night of Cups I heard was pretty bad.
- 1:25:41Speaker 6: It's just... Everything I hear is just weird and his normal... Yeah,
- 1:25:47Speaker 6: I mean, that's the thing. He makes great looking movies
- 1:25:50Speaker 6: and then structures them so that normal people don't want
- 1:25:52Speaker 6: to watch them anyway. They're just like, I don't understand. So,
- 1:25:57Speaker 6: next up, in this one, at first I was like, oh,
- 1:26:01Speaker 6: but no, you're right. Tin Cloverfield Lane. Once you get
- 1:26:05Speaker 6: into the movie, I'm like, no, that is the dreariest
- 1:26:09Speaker 6: study of humans at their most humanist. Yep, that's how
- 1:26:13Speaker 6: it goes. Gotta give them points. That's a good one.
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: As is nocturnal animals. Just people being horrible, horrible people.
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: But not the winner. You can't compete with this one.
- 1:26:28Speaker 6: Batman v. Superman. Dawn of Justice. And don't worry, there's
- 1:26:33Speaker 6: some comments. Big surprise.
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:26:37Speaker 6: There's two different elaborations here. The first one says, Batman v. Superman.
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: Dawn of Justice. Hands down. Full stop. I have never
- 1:26:46Speaker 6: seen a film that actively disliked its target audience as
- 1:26:49Speaker 6: much as this one did. Batman doesn't kill you, say? Bullshit.
- 1:26:53Speaker 6: He'll murder you dead if you get in his Batmobile's way.
- 1:26:56Speaker 6: Superman will work tirelessly to save the day? Well, maybe
- 1:27:00Speaker 6: he does after he does his Jesus pose after some
- 1:27:02Speaker 6: flood victims so the light catches him in his cape
- 1:27:04Speaker 6: just right. Hey, is that Jimmy Olsen? Yep, and we
- 1:27:07Speaker 6: just capped his ass. Need a spear to kill the
- 1:27:10Speaker 6: rampaging monster? But it's not in the city? Well, lead
- 1:27:13Speaker 6: the monster into the city, which incidentally was the kind
- 1:27:16Speaker 6: of thing Batman was rightfully pissed off about in the
- 1:27:18Speaker 6: beginning of the film after the events of Man of Steel.
- 1:27:22Speaker 6: Instead of bringing the freaking spear to the monster. Should
- 1:27:26Speaker 6: Superman sacrifice himself at the end to kill the monster?
- 1:27:29Speaker 6: You bet, because having Wonder Woman save the day is
- 1:27:32Speaker 6: just silly. Safe word, Martha, because fuck you, fans. That's why,
- 1:27:39Speaker 6: go see a Marvel film if you want to be entertained.
- 1:27:41Speaker 6: This is medicine, and not the good kind either. This
- 1:27:45Speaker 6: is the sketchy kind from Mexico with a lot of
- 1:27:47Speaker 6: side effects and no health benefits.
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: Wow. Senses some hostility there.
- 1:27:54Speaker 6: Thank you, unnamed contributor. The second unnamed contributor also continues with,
- 1:28:01Speaker 6: Two and a half hours of Guardians of Humanity being
- 1:28:03Speaker 6: persecuted by the people they're trying to save, forced into hiding,
- 1:28:07Speaker 6: and turned against each other. The moral being, humanity doesn't
- 1:28:10Speaker 6: deserve a Superman. Yeah, this movie broke my heart. People
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: really didn't like Batman v Superman. I don't know if
- 1:28:17Speaker 6: you guys are picking up on that. People really didn't
- 1:28:20Speaker 6: like Batman v Superman, colon, Dawn of Justice.
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: But the industry can take great pride in its achievement
- 1:28:26Speaker 5: this year. It's the first time we've had smellies on purpose.
- 1:28:33Speaker 5: Pictures that smell. Isn't that wonderful? I remember when you
- 1:28:35Speaker 5: had to wait for the reviews.
- 1:28:39Speaker 6: All right, we are moving on. on into the music categories,
- 1:28:42Speaker 6: which we have already laid the groundwork on, but that
- 1:28:47Speaker 6: is not necessarily how these guys went. So this is
- 1:28:51Speaker 6: the favorite use of a song in a 2016 film. See,
- 1:28:55Speaker 6: this is the different part. We were playing all the
- 1:28:57Speaker 6: ones nominated for Oscars. Oscars are boring and have rules.
- 1:29:00Speaker 6: Oscars are boring. Stupid rules. So, I specifically put in
- 1:29:06Speaker 6: when I created this category, parentheses, it does not have
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: to be originally created for this film. So, feel free
- 1:29:14Speaker 6: to work in any damn song that got used in
- 1:29:16Speaker 6: a movie that you like. So, this one is sort
- 1:29:20Speaker 6: of a one-two punch in its own one category here.
- 1:29:23Speaker 6: Just as a little shout-out. Rest in peace, George. Because
- 1:29:28Speaker 6: we had nominated, first, Faith by George Michael. From Keanu.
- 1:29:33Speaker 6: A very pivotal moment in that movie, I believe. And also,
- 1:29:37Speaker 6: Careless Whisper by Wham from Deadpool. Who I believe we've
- 1:29:42Speaker 6: already worked into an episode of Attack of the Killer Soundtrack.
- 1:29:46Speaker 6: Because we were that moved by it the first time.
- 1:29:50Speaker 6: Next up, and I did like this one, once again,
- 1:29:52Speaker 6: perfect use in this movie, I Think We're Alone Now
- 1:29:56Speaker 6: by Tommy James and the Shondells from Tin Cloverfield Lane.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 1:30:01Speaker 6: It's a really good use of that song. This one,
- 1:30:07Speaker 6: I give points because it's originally created for the film, alright.
- 1:30:11Speaker 6: This is I Ran, originally by Flock of Seagulls, but
- 1:30:15Speaker 6: instead it's performed by Ryan Gosling and his cheesy cover band.
- 1:30:20Speaker 6: It's pretty damn entertaining. Mostly because Emma Stone's jumping around
- 1:30:23Speaker 6: and being a goof, so extra bonus points for that.
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: The runner-up, which had Several votes, but didn't quite push
- 1:30:32Speaker 6: it over the top. But as to the two-string solo
- 1:30:36Speaker 6: we mentioned earlier, While My Guitar Gently Weeps by Regina
- 1:30:39Speaker 6: Spector from Kubo and the Two Strings. But couldn't pull
- 1:30:44Speaker 6: it out past the landslide victory of a song that
- 1:30:48Speaker 6: I wasn't really sure how people were going to feel
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: about when I saw it in the theater. But the
- 1:30:52Speaker 6: winner is Sabotage from Star Trek Beyond.
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: Nice.
- 1:30:56Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 1:30:57Speaker 13: I got it.
- 1:30:58Speaker 6: I was surprised how much I liked it and for
- 1:31:01Speaker 6: kind of the same reasons as these comments here. So
- 1:31:03Speaker 6: I'll just go ahead and read these off. I rolled
- 1:31:06Speaker 6: my eyes when I heard it in the trailer thinking
- 1:31:08Speaker 6: they were trying to brand the next film as cool.
- 1:31:11Speaker 6: I didn't realize the song was actually used as a
- 1:31:13Speaker 6: plot point and a nice callback to the first film.
- 1:31:16Speaker 6: It was the cherry on top of another unexpected pleasure
- 1:31:19Speaker 6: of the year. It's the closest any of the movies
- 1:31:21Speaker 6: have come to replicating the fun of the 60s TV show.
- 1:31:24Speaker 6: It was kind of my thing. I didn't expect it
- 1:31:27Speaker 6: to actually be used in the movie. Yeah, yeah. For
- 1:31:31Speaker 6: a reason. It was a cool scene. It's pretty cool.
- 1:31:34Speaker 6: I was pretty thrilled with that.
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: I really liked that movie, for sure.
- 1:31:37Speaker 6: It was a lot of fun. Again, it is the
- 1:31:40Speaker 6: first one that kind of feels like a one-off.
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: Episode, too.
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: It's so self-contained. It's like an episode of the show
- 1:31:46Speaker 6: for an hour and a half. It does kind of
- 1:31:49Speaker 6: work as a start trick in the old sense of
- 1:31:52Speaker 6: the word.
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: Viola Davis, best supporting actress ever.
- 1:31:58Speaker 6: That was kind of locked in, actually. I looked at
- 1:32:02Speaker 6: all those and went, no, the rest of you bastards don't.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: Have a shot. I gotta see that movie.
- 1:32:07Speaker 6: She's always amazing.
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: Look at those traps. She's been doing some shrugs.
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: I didn't realize that.
- 1:32:14Speaker 6: Because she's badass. See, if anybody needs to win something
- 1:32:17Speaker 6: for fucking Suicide Squad, it's her. Viola Davis is the
- 1:32:21Speaker 6: reason to see Suicide Squad.
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: Gosh, that's impressive. Kudos, Viola. Like, she.
- 1:32:27Speaker 6: Again, in a movie that doesn't deserve it, pulls in
- 1:32:30Speaker 6: this amazing performance.
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: Yeah, she's good. Her and Will Smith are like that.
- 1:32:33Speaker 6: Way more cutthroat than all of these other supposedly dangerous people.
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: I think Her and Will Smith are the two best performances. Yeah.
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: Harley Quinn, I wasn't too fond of.
- 1:32:43Speaker 6: I'm okay with her. I think she did a good job,
- 1:32:45Speaker 6: but there's nothing to put her in a better story.
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: That whole mouth agape thing, it seemed like every picture
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: I saw from that movie before it came out, she
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: had her mouth open. I was sort of worried that
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: she had TMJ. You know, I mean, she was all right.
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: I mean, it wasn't that bad.
- 1:33:01Speaker 6: I think she got that character for what they were
- 1:33:04Speaker 6: doing with it. It's a different version than the animated version.
- 1:33:08Speaker 6: I'm sure it's different than what they've done in the
- 1:33:10Speaker 6: comics over the years.
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: I saw some chatter on IMDb saying that they, like,
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: I think people wanted that goofy outfit she had on
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: in the cartoon. I was like, do you realize how
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: dumb that would look?
- 1:33:19Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:33:20Speaker 2: I know they had that little flash to it in
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: the movie, but.
- 1:33:24Speaker 6: Yeah, it got overdone with the t-shirt option that she
- 1:33:28Speaker 6: went with, which, by the way, is almost entirely stolen
- 1:33:31Speaker 6: from Debbie Harry, by the way. Have you seen those pictures?
- 1:33:34Speaker 6: There's a shot of Debbie Harry in the 70s. She's
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: straight up wearing almost everything on, minus the text that says, Daddy's.
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: A little monster.
- 1:33:44Speaker 6: Everything else is almost completely stolen from Debbie Harry. So,
- 1:33:50Speaker 6: you know who to steal from.
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: It's all right. Yeah. Blondie Fitz.
- 1:33:56Speaker 6: I think they knew better than to play her off.
- 1:33:58Speaker 6: Do you guys want to be crucified in the media?
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: Might have been worried about those muscled up arms.
- 1:34:08Speaker 6: That's true. They would also. She'd beat their ass. Alright.
- 1:34:14Speaker 6: Next up. Continuing the musical entries. This is the favorite
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: score in a 2016 film. And again, it does not
- 1:34:22Speaker 6: have to be specifically created for this. First up is,
- 1:34:26Speaker 6: once again, one of our favorites of the evening, Kubo
- 1:34:29Speaker 6: and the Two Strings, composed by Dario Marinelli. I'm going
- 1:34:35Speaker 6: to go with that. Dario Marinelli. Next up, Hell or
- 1:34:39Speaker 6: High Water, composed by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.
- 1:34:42Speaker 11: Yes.
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: Which is a really great.
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: Any movie they score, it's going to be awesome. Like,
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: I love the one, they did the one for the
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: assassination of Jesse James. That was such a great score.
- 1:34:53Speaker 6: Nick Cave's just a badass.
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: Definitely. That song, the Coulter Wall song that they used
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: on there is really good, too. He's like a teenager
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: from Canada. It's one song on there with vocals. You
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: should look him up. He's got just this amazing, like,
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: old-fashioned country voice. Super deep. He's like 19. Again, yeah,
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: they do.
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: Kind of skated that line like you could take that
- 1:35:17Speaker 6: way annoyingly country which as I've stated on the show
- 1:35:21Speaker 6: not my thing but it doesn't it just fits the
- 1:35:25Speaker 6: like destitute Texas wasteland that they're in the.
- 1:35:28Speaker 2: Middle of yeah and I mean he's Coulter is like
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: sparse sort of Johnny Cash sort of stuff so it works.
- 1:35:34Speaker 6: Again if you find it's not big and rich it's
- 1:35:35Speaker 6: awesome yeah alright next up and I like this they
- 1:35:40Speaker 6: didn't even want the entirety of the score just that
- 1:35:43Speaker 6: one scene That one part, it is specifically Wonder Woman's
- 1:35:48Speaker 6: theme from Batman v Superman by Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL.
- 1:35:53Speaker 6: And it is, I mean, again, go back to that episode.
- 1:35:56Speaker 6: We specifically cite that part when that song kicks in
- 1:36:00Speaker 6: is badass. And like, it's the only like inspired music
- 1:36:04Speaker 6: in the entire movie. Like the rest is the most forgettable.
- 1:36:08Speaker 6: How can you make forgettable music for like Superman music? Batman,
- 1:36:14Speaker 6: like they're beating people up the whole movie and you
- 1:36:16Speaker 6: come up with nothing. But luckily that little bit of
- 1:36:20Speaker 6: Wonder Woman kicks in and it's actually interesting. I believe
- 1:36:24Speaker 6: that's how this person goes on. We did have a comment.
- 1:36:28Speaker 6: She was the saving grace of that godforsaken film every
- 1:36:31Speaker 6: second she was on screen. As she rescued the movie
- 1:36:34Speaker 6: before she even showed up with that Middle Eastern guitar
- 1:36:37Speaker 6: riff and warrior drums, there hasn't been a movie riff
- 1:36:39Speaker 6: this catchy since Danny Elfman's Batman theme. damn, that's a
- 1:36:43Speaker 6: pretty high praise.
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: Definitely. I'm so excited for the Wonder Woman movie. I
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: think it might actually break them out of the rut.
- 1:36:50Speaker 6: Cautiously optimistic. That's what I was just going to say.
- 1:36:53Speaker 6: I should probably go a little lower next.
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: I love superhero movies that are period pieces.
- 1:36:58Speaker 6: To me, that's what we said before. I feel like
- 1:37:01Speaker 6: it's got a very first Captain America vibe to it.
- 1:37:05Speaker 6: And I'm like, I'm okay with that. Go down that road.
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: You know, they were supposed to do that Magneto movie
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: set in World War II, and that would have been amazing.
- 1:37:12Speaker 6: I mean, they always kind of started there in the
- 1:37:14Speaker 6: old series, but they would jump away from it.
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: Yeah, weren't they, though, supposed to do a whole movie
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: specifically about Magneto and the Holocaust? From what I understand,
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: that's a touchy subject.
- 1:37:22Speaker 6: I could see that being written, getting backed by a studio.
- 1:37:27Speaker 6: I don't know. That would be surprising to get major
- 1:37:30Speaker 6: studio push, but. But, nope, next up is our runner-up,
- 1:37:36Speaker 6: which got several votes. His stuff is usually pretty damn impressive.
- 1:37:40Speaker 6: This is The Neon Demon by Cliff Martinez. But the
- 1:37:45Speaker 6: winner is, and previously mentioned on our Attack of the
- 1:37:49Speaker 6: Killers soundtrack episode, and called out for not being nominated
- 1:37:52Speaker 6: for an Oscar, this is the winner, The Arrival, composed
- 1:37:56Speaker 6: by Johan Johannes.
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: I love that movie, but honestly, I can't really remember
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: anything about the score.
- 1:38:03Speaker 4: Well, the score was extremely subdued, minimal.
- 1:38:07Speaker 6: That's a good score.
- 1:38:09Speaker 4: It was just incredibly atmospheric, setting the tone for.
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: The entire movie.
- 1:38:15Speaker 4: I mean, I think I mentioned that Jackie was my
- 1:38:19Speaker 4: favorite score. And Jackie and Moonlight were my favorite scores. But, yeah,
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: I was very surprised that Arrival was not nominated just for...
- 1:38:30Speaker 4: how much it added to the movie atmospherically and mood-wise.
- 1:38:37Speaker 4: I can't imagine Arrival with a different score. And also,
- 1:38:40Speaker 4: Johan Johansson, he's a big up-and-coming name.
- 1:38:44Speaker 6: I'm seeing him at Big.
- 1:38:46Speaker 4: Ears Festival, the Experimental Music Festival, next month. I'm like
- 1:38:50Speaker 4: super stoked.
- 1:38:51Speaker 9: Where's that at?
- 1:38:52Speaker 4: Knoxville, Tennessee.
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: Cool.
- 1:38:55Speaker 6: So we're going to have to get him on the
- 1:38:56Speaker 6: show is what you're going to say.
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: Probably would.
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:38:59Speaker 6: I'll see what I can do. Johans.
- 1:39:03Speaker 4: Johan.
- 1:39:04Speaker 6: We're coming for you.
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: I'm excited to re-watch that movie now because I have
- 1:39:07Speaker 2: a terrible memory. I actually just watched it.
- 1:39:09Speaker 6: This past weekend and hadn't seen it. So I was
- 1:39:12Speaker 6: like the music I did kind of notice going into
- 1:39:15Speaker 6: this because I'd already been seeing people vote for it.
- 1:39:18Speaker 6: But I was also surprised how, again, I feel like
- 1:39:22Speaker 6: it suffered from that trailer because I didn't even like
- 1:39:25Speaker 6: commented about how much I wasn't enthused about seeing it
- 1:39:28Speaker 6: because I was afraid it was going in like most
- 1:39:32Speaker 6: alien movies, especially that aren't, well, that aren't action alien movies,
- 1:39:36Speaker 6: like everything else that's trying to be semi serious about it.
- 1:39:40Speaker 6: It usually is just like an hour and a half
- 1:39:42Speaker 6: of buildup before we ever even get to aliens or
- 1:39:45Speaker 6: any interaction or, It's always just like drug out until
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: the very end for some weird trippy like finale. And
- 1:39:51Speaker 6: like from almost the get go, it's like, here are
- 1:39:54Speaker 6: the aliens. Here's our interaction with them. Like it really
- 1:39:58Speaker 6: is an interesting and as close to a like pretty
- 1:40:01Speaker 6: realistic take of like watching. That was one of the
- 1:40:04Speaker 6: better scenes I thought at the very beginning when I'm
- 1:40:07Speaker 6: always interested to see when they have like some catastrophic
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: or major event take place, how it's presented in film.
- 1:40:14Speaker 6: And like when, like the fact that like all those
- 1:40:17Speaker 6: people are just sort of rushing around in the beginning,
- 1:40:19Speaker 6: she's not really paying that much attention. And then everybody's
- 1:40:22Speaker 6: cell phones are going off and you're just like, you
- 1:40:24Speaker 6: can put that away now. Thanks. And like, it finally
- 1:40:27Speaker 6: like sinks in and that's, that's the way that stuff's
- 1:40:29Speaker 6: going to catch you. It's like finding a subtle way
- 1:40:32Speaker 6: to be like, Oh shit, the world just changed. Like that's,
- 1:40:36Speaker 6: that kind of stuff was really cool. And then watching
- 1:40:38Speaker 6: her try to deal with interacting with them in a
- 1:40:41Speaker 6: real world setting, like, It was all pretty well done.
- 1:40:46Speaker 6: I was impressed with what a cool version it was
- 1:40:49Speaker 6: of just interacting with aliens the whole movie. And I
- 1:40:53Speaker 6: don't remember that coming across in the trailer.
- 1:40:55Speaker 4: I mean, it's like the entire premise of the movie
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: is like, yes. Every time I've seen an alien movie,
- 1:41:01Speaker 4: I'm like, why is there not.
- 1:41:02Speaker 6: A linguist involved?
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: Where are the anthropologists?
- 1:41:06Speaker 6: We've got to have people that can communicate. No, they're boring.
- 1:41:09Speaker 6: We need more people with guns. That's what aliens respond to.
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: That was based on a book, wasn't it?
- 1:41:17Speaker 13: On what?
- 1:41:18Speaker 6: No, a true story. Based on a true story.
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: It was a non-fiction book.
- 1:41:22Speaker 6: It only happened in China, though. They wouldn't tell us
- 1:41:25Speaker 6: about it. They're pretty secretive. I wonder how that movie
- 1:41:28Speaker 6: went over in China was my thing. I mean, eventually
- 1:41:31Speaker 6: it's all okay, I guess, but they're kind of made
- 1:41:34Speaker 6: us the bad guys through most of the movie. It
- 1:41:36Speaker 6: was like, there's a huge market for selling our movies
- 1:41:39Speaker 6: in China. Just wondered how that response was.
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: Just did some tweaking in the edit.
- 1:41:45Speaker 6: Darn, they're stuck in Japan. I don't know if that
- 1:41:49Speaker 6: audio matches up exactly.
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: Hey, hey.
- 1:41:56Speaker 6: Hold it, hold it, hold it, hold it. Hold it.
- 1:41:58Speaker 14: I don't want any more of that playing, that Alfie.
- 1:42:05Speaker 14: I've been married six weeks, and my wife says... You
- 1:42:09Speaker 14: mustn't play Alfie anymore when I come on. You've got
- 1:42:12Speaker 14: to play when I grow too old to.
- 1:42:14Speaker 8: Dream.
- 1:42:20Speaker 14: That's an ad lib. I really put him out up there.
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: I love her. Hidden Figures was so good.
- 1:42:27Speaker 6: Yeah, I did want to say they were mentioning it
- 1:42:29Speaker 6: earlier before we started rolling here, but yeah, they were
- 1:42:31Speaker 6: discussing last year's hashtag I first go white, which if
- 1:42:35Speaker 6: you remember, you were here last year, Jacqueline. We were...
- 1:42:39Speaker 6: Hashtag foilers so diverse because we had many, many people
- 1:42:43Speaker 6: of color involved in the foilers. And yeah, you'll notice
- 1:42:48Speaker 6: this year the Oscars is kind of aping our shoot.
- 1:42:51Speaker 6: I'm just saying. Kind of what? They're stealing our thing.
- 1:42:55Speaker 6: They want to be just like us is what we've learned.
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: Her music is so good. Like Janelle Monae, her music's amazing.
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: I love Ark Android. It's a great record.
- 1:43:03Speaker 6: That's a pretty damn impressive dress, too. I don't know
- 1:43:05Speaker 6: what all was going on.
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: Have you ever listened to her music at all? She's
- 1:43:08Speaker 2: got an album that's themed around the movie Metropolis. She's
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: like a big sci-fi nerd.
- 1:43:14Speaker 6: So she needs to be on the show, is what
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: you're saying. Invitation, throwing it out there right now. She
- 1:43:19Speaker 6: is welcome to, regardless of whether you win an Oscar
- 1:43:22Speaker 6: or not, you're still welcome on Movie Mountain. But yeah,
- 1:43:25Speaker 6: just saying. I thought it was interesting. The influence we
- 1:43:28Speaker 6: have on the industry as a whole.
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: That is amazing.
- 1:43:31Speaker 6: We're pushing the envelope, guys.
- 1:43:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I was.
- 1:43:35Speaker 4: I was glad to see that there were... It's not
- 1:43:37Speaker 4: just that more movies with African-American leads after African-American directors are.
- 1:43:44Speaker 13: In the Oscars.
- 1:43:45Speaker 4: I feel like there were just a lot more movies.
- 1:43:47Speaker 6: There were a lot more.
- 1:43:48Speaker 2: A lot more good movies.
- 1:43:50Speaker 6: That's the thing. Last year, they were giving everybody... Everybody
- 1:43:54Speaker 6: got so much hell for that. And I was just like, well, again, yes,
- 1:43:58Speaker 6: the Academy is biased. It's a bunch of old white people.
- 1:44:02Speaker 6: But on top of that, there's just not near as
- 1:44:04Speaker 6: many roles going to people of color of any variety.
- 1:44:08Speaker 6: You know, it's like, it's still 98% white dudes getting
- 1:44:11Speaker 6: all the lead roles. So I'm like, it's, it's white
- 1:44:14Speaker 6: dudes giving white dudes roles. It's really, yeah. So it's
- 1:44:16Speaker 6: really hard to find. Like, that's the thing. They were like, Oh,
- 1:44:19Speaker 6: there's nobody. And they had a couple again, pushing Will
- 1:44:22Speaker 6: Smith when he's your husband does not make you seem
- 1:44:24Speaker 6: any cooler, but like they were trying to come up
- 1:44:26Speaker 6: with some good examples. I'm like, yeah, you were scraping bottom.
- 1:44:29Speaker 6: Cause there just weren't a ton of black roles or
- 1:44:31Speaker 6: anybody that wasn't white, you know? It's like we're just
- 1:44:34Speaker 6: not a ton of stuff that was made that year.
- 1:44:36Speaker 6: So I'm like, at this point, it's a numbers game.
- 1:44:38Speaker 6: You know, it's like there's only so many. You can't
- 1:44:41Speaker 6: just start giving them to anybody when they're making a
- 1:44:43Speaker 6: crappy movie.
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:44:45Speaker 6: So it's like we kind of have to, you know,
- 1:44:47Speaker 6: keep the standards high to make better movies, but just
- 1:44:50Speaker 6: let a lot of other people in. Yeah.
- 1:44:52Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: And while on this subject, I just want to suggest
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: that every person listening go see Get Out. It's pretty amazing.
- 1:44:58Speaker 6: Don't say anything, though.
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: Oh, no, no. I'm not going to spoil anything.
- 1:45:01Speaker 6: The other two haven't seen it, so we're making him
- 1:45:03Speaker 6: shut up. But he is wholeheartedly recommending it.
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: No plot points revealed, but it's just an amazing, horror,
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: suspenseful movie. Definitely go see it.
- 1:45:11Speaker 6: Oh, there's horror in it? Damn it.
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: Oh, dang, sorry.
- 1:45:13Speaker 6: Never mind. Ruined it now.
- 1:45:15Speaker 4: I feel like there's not usually, like, a good horror
- 1:45:18Speaker 4: movie coming out this early in the year i felt
- 1:45:21Speaker 4: like it was like just for my birthday like thank
- 1:45:23Speaker 4: you it's.
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: Like i love horror that deals with serious issues and
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: and it's definitely one of those but there.
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: Is comedy i feel like a horror movie that doesn't
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: have any comedy is not that great you have to
- 1:45:34Speaker 4: have a little bit i'm not.
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: A horror fan at all so yeah i like the
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: stuff like scream and stuff like that where they kind
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: of give some levity to it but just like Some
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: gore I can do, but I used to get squeamish
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: during House MD when they did the surgery scene. I
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: was in a horror movie, too, and I died pretty recently.
- 1:45:52Speaker 6: It was always lupus, though. I mean, how are you
- 1:45:55Speaker 6: scared by lupus?
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: Next up, the most impressive director of a 2016 film.
- 1:46:03Speaker 6: All right, so here are the nominees. First up, Garth
- 1:46:08Speaker 6: Edwards for Rogue One. This one had a comment, and
- 1:46:11Speaker 6: I thought it was kind of interesting. I was worried
- 1:46:14Speaker 6: about him clumsily trampling over the Star Wars universe like
- 1:46:17Speaker 6: a shitty Godzilla. So it's good to know that that's
- 1:46:21Speaker 6: not what happened. He actually did a pretty damn impressive movie,
- 1:46:24Speaker 6: especially to be confined in the weird way that he was.
- 1:46:28Speaker 6: I think it's impressive. Travis Knight, Kubo and the Two Strings,
- 1:46:35Speaker 6: once again, bringing it back. Nicholas winning reffing for The
- 1:46:39Speaker 6: Neon Demon. Tim Miller for Deadpool. And the winner is
- 1:46:45Speaker 6: Jeremy Soya for Green Room, which, once again, I think...
- 1:46:51Speaker 6: Go see it now if you haven't. It's awesome. It
- 1:46:55Speaker 6: also has the best villain of the year, some people
- 1:46:57Speaker 6: would say. Some foiler-nominating voters. Oh, yeah, we did also
- 1:47:04Speaker 6: have somebody write in specifically with a shout-out to... I
- 1:47:08Speaker 6: won't even attempt to get this guy's name because it's,
- 1:47:10Speaker 6: once again, Crazy Russians. But they specifically said, I hated
- 1:47:14Speaker 6: Hardcore Henry, but I hand it to the guy, it's
- 1:47:18Speaker 6: Ilya something or other, some crazy Russian name, for going
- 1:47:21Speaker 6: through all that trouble. It's unwatchable, but I respect the
- 1:47:24Speaker 6: dedication to something so experimental. So I kind of give
- 1:47:30Speaker 6: them that same thing. It doesn't look like a fun movie,
- 1:47:33Speaker 6: but damn, it looks like they went through a lot
- 1:47:35Speaker 6: of shit to get that thing made. It's crazy. Some
- 1:47:40Speaker 6: would say hardcore.
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: Here you go.
- 1:47:43Speaker 6: Here is Sting performing, and I'm a prophet. I have visions.
- 1:47:49Speaker 6: I've seen the future. It's almost exactly the way I
- 1:47:53Speaker 6: pictured in my head. Spot on. The one thing that's different,
- 1:47:58Speaker 6: I didn't expect this weird hair he's got going on.
- 1:48:00Speaker 6: But other than that, like that cut they just did there,
- 1:48:04Speaker 6: the fade to the other camera, this is all exactly
- 1:48:07Speaker 6: how I pictured it. This song was made specifically.
- 1:48:12Speaker 2: to.
- 1:48:12Speaker 6: Be on the Oscar telecast. And I've already forgotten what
- 1:48:17Speaker 6: the song is. That tells you about the song.
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: I think it's that one about... Like a chair?
- 1:48:23Speaker 4: Some kind of empty chair?
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: I was going to make a joke like it was
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: the Timberlake song from Trolls, but... Is this one about dancing?
- 1:48:30Speaker 6: Hey, I can't stop that feeling.
- 1:48:31Speaker 5: But let's have Price Waterhouse get on with the awards.
- 1:48:34Speaker 5: We know these awards are absolutely honest and above board
- 1:48:37Speaker 5: because in 32 years, neither Price nor Waterhouse has ever
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: won an Oscar. And I can vouch for their honesty.
- 1:48:45Speaker 5: Believe me, if they'd ever take a bribe, I'd be
- 1:48:47Speaker 5: the first to know.
- 1:48:51Speaker 6: Round this thing out as we get to the final two,
- 1:48:55Speaker 6: the big awards, the movies, and we're We're awesome. We're
- 1:48:59Speaker 6: better than the Oscars. Because we don't just bring it
- 1:49:01Speaker 6: down to one. Because there are two different levels, at least.
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: There's really a lot of levels in between. But I
- 1:49:08Speaker 6: at least want to give people an option to go.
- 1:49:10Speaker 6: Because you can't really compete when you have the push
- 1:49:13Speaker 6: of the mainstream studios versus, you know, what the uphill
- 1:49:17Speaker 6: battle that indie movies are fighting. So you get both
- 1:49:21Speaker 6: options here. First up, the favorite, what you would consider
- 1:49:25Speaker 6: a mainstream movie in 2016. And the nominees are Arrival, Zootopia,
- 1:49:32Speaker 6: La La Land still made its way in there, Deadpool,
- 1:49:38Speaker 6: but the winner is Rogue One, colon, A Star Wars Story.
- 1:49:44Speaker 6: You can't fight Star Wars.
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: I mean, think of the listeners.
- 1:49:49Speaker 6: And as previously stated, that Gareth Edwards, I mean, he
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: didn't stomp on it like Godzilla. He knows what he's doing.
- 1:49:58Speaker 6: So far. We'll see how things go from here. I
- 1:50:02Speaker 6: wonder if they'll bring him back to do another Star
- 1:50:04Speaker 6: Wars now. Because they're kind of swapping out on the
- 1:50:08Speaker 6: next episode when so. I wonder if he'll be like
- 1:50:13Speaker 6: coming back in here and there to do like outlying movies.
- 1:50:17Speaker 2: It's yet to be seen.
- 1:50:19Speaker 6: Alright, time to round out the final film of the evening.
- 1:50:24Speaker 6: Your favorite what you would consider indie movie in 2016.
- 1:50:28Speaker 6: Here to present is Haley Steinfeld, who can also swing
- 1:50:34Speaker 6: by and pick up her foiler. I don't even have
- 1:50:36Speaker 6: a category. I'll just, I'll give you one. It is
- 1:50:38Speaker 6: cool to see that there are no boundaries in the world.
- 1:50:42Speaker 6: I mean, she's an Oscar nominee as a kid. Now
- 1:50:46Speaker 6: she's kind of one of the biggest names in pop
- 1:50:48Speaker 6: music right now. And yet still doing movies. Like there really,
- 1:50:53Speaker 6: there was such a, stigma for a while there that
- 1:50:56Speaker 6: once you were one thing like you couldn't be a
- 1:50:57Speaker 6: pop star and be a serious actor you know it's
- 1:51:00Speaker 6: like it's just amazing to see how far the lines.
- 1:51:04Speaker 2: Have blurred at this point i don't know who that
- 1:51:07Speaker 2: is have you ever seen movies yeah she's the kid
- 1:51:12Speaker 2: in true grit.
- 1:51:13Speaker 6: Oh okay she's like half the songs on the radio now.
- 1:51:16Speaker 2: I don't don't listen to the radio very often but uh.
- 1:51:19Speaker 6: But seriously like That an actress that was in Oscar
- 1:51:24Speaker 6: caliber movies can be a pop star.
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: I can see it now.
- 1:51:29Speaker 6: She seems really cool. Again, I've seen her.
- 1:51:32Speaker 2: So she's been in other stuff, I guess.
- 1:51:33Speaker 6: She's in Edge of Seventeen. I heard nothing but good
- 1:51:36Speaker 6: things about her.
- 1:51:38Speaker 2: I wanted to see that.
- 1:51:39Speaker 6: I don't know. I just think that's kind of cool.
- 1:51:41Speaker 4: I loved that little short.
- 1:51:44Speaker 6: And now it has an Oscar. Almost as coveted as
- 1:51:48Speaker 6: a spoiler. All right, so the nominees are Green Room,
- 1:51:55Speaker 6: Midnight Special, The Monster, Kubo and the Two Strings, but
- 1:52:01Speaker 6: the winner is Hell or High Water.
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: Hell yeah. Yeehaw.
- 1:52:06Speaker 6: Impressive movie and finally makes it okay to rob banks.
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: As long as you have a good reason. I mean,
- 1:52:14Speaker 6: like this and Dog Day Afternoon. Totally legit reasons to
- 1:52:18Speaker 6: rob banks.
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: I wonder what would happen on a winter's day if
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: you wore a ski mask in just to cash a check.
- 1:52:24Speaker 6: I feel like these days, anywhere you go in a
- 1:52:26Speaker 6: ski mask isn't going to go over well.
- 1:52:27Speaker 4: You just fucking take it off when you walk through
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: the door. I could never seriously talk to somebody with
- 1:52:34Speaker 4: a ski mask on.
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: It is kind of intimidating to think about that product.
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: Even just out in the cold, it would be kind
- 1:52:41Speaker 2: of odd.
- 1:52:43Speaker 6: Still not as annoying as people on their cell phones
- 1:52:45Speaker 6: trying to talk to you.
- 1:52:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:52:47Speaker 2: I heard some guys at Carmichael's today throwing shade, as
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: they say, to a guy who was talking to someone
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: on his cell phone while he was checking out about
- 1:52:57Speaker 2: watching the Oscars and stuff. And they were going through
- 1:52:59Speaker 2: the things they wanted to say to him, but they didn't.
- 1:53:01Speaker 6: Dude, really, just hang up.
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: It's okay.
- 1:53:04Speaker 4: There's a guy that always wears his motorcycle helmet into
- 1:53:09Speaker 4: the store. But he just keeps it on.
- 1:53:11Speaker 6: I think I've seen that character.
- 1:53:13Speaker 4: I'm just like, I can't hear you. You're talking into
- 1:53:17Speaker 4: a closed helmet.
- 1:53:19Speaker 2: Maybe he's just worried about falling rocks.
- 1:53:21Speaker 6: That's really extreme.
- 1:53:22Speaker 2: The ceiling looks a little suspicious.
- 1:53:24Speaker 6: I was totally making fun of that chick that came
- 1:53:27Speaker 6: in the other day that wore sunglasses in all the time.
- 1:53:29Speaker 6: And I still make fun of people who do that.
- 1:53:32Speaker 6: And I waited long enough. I'm like, maybe they're those
- 1:53:34Speaker 6: magic winds that change. Nope. Those are just sunglasses. You're
- 1:53:37Speaker 6: just kind of a douche. Because it's not even that
- 1:53:39Speaker 6: sunny outside. And by the way, you're inside shades, so
- 1:53:42Speaker 6: you can go ahead and take those off any time now.
- 1:53:45Speaker 2: People.
- 1:53:46Speaker 6: Jerks. All right. Do we have anything to pass along
- 1:53:51Speaker 6: to people as we round out this festive event? Before
- 1:53:56Speaker 6: my voice completely goes out. It's pretty much shot at
- 1:53:59Speaker 6: this point, but it was already in bad shape before.
- 1:54:02Speaker 4: Any movies that came out this year that I liked
- 1:54:05Speaker 4: a lot? I would probably say Moonlight is... Not a
- 1:54:12Speaker 4: big production? Not a mainstream movie?
- 1:54:15Speaker 6: I mean, it got a little love in this Oscar-y area,
- 1:54:19Speaker 6: but again, it's not pulling in mainstream audiences because they
- 1:54:23Speaker 6: don't know what to do with it. They're just like,
- 1:54:25Speaker 6: I don't know. No, no one saw it.
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: Not no one saw it. We recently screened the 13th
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: at the library, and that's really good, the documentary. It
- 1:54:38Speaker 2: was really good. I'm trying to think of anything I
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: really just outright loved.
- 1:54:44Speaker 4: I was disappointed by a few movies this year.
- 1:54:48Speaker 6: Birth of a Nation. I think everyone was disappointed by
- 1:54:52Speaker 6: that one.
- 1:54:53Speaker 4: Because it just seemed like it was going to be
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: really good. And some of the acting was really good.
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: And the writing was good. And then it was just
- 1:55:01Speaker 4: like flop.
- 1:55:03Speaker 6: There were other things going on there. Yeah, the bad publicity.
- 1:55:08Speaker 6: I think on top of that, people just didn't like
- 1:55:09Speaker 6: the movie.
- 1:55:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:55:11Speaker 6: And then he sort of got into his own.
- 1:55:14Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: Hell, Caesar. I'm still like the reaction to that shocked
- 1:55:18Speaker 2: me because it's so funny and good.
- 1:55:21Speaker 4: See, I was disappointed by it.
- 1:55:22Speaker 6: Again, nobody knows what to do with funny Coen Brothers.
- 1:55:25Speaker 6: If it's not Lebowski, they just don't know what to
- 1:55:27Speaker 6: do with it. No, I love Coen Brothers movies, but
- 1:55:30Speaker 6: I thought this one was not great. But all of those.
- 1:55:32Speaker 6: It was kind of masturbatory. Those weird, every other one
- 1:55:35Speaker 6: that they do that are comedy, nobody.
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: Ever knows what to do with. Yeah, like the Lady Killers.
- 1:55:39Speaker 6: The Lady Killers and the.
- 1:55:42Speaker 2: I had a fetish for old Hollywood, and I like
- 1:55:45Speaker 2: that they kind of tried to tap into that. I
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: know it definitely wasn't their best, but I thought it
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: was pretty entertaining.
- 1:55:51Speaker 6: It's just funny how much they keep wanting to do them,
- 1:55:55Speaker 6: but audiences never respond to them.
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: I always laugh at that story about Bill Murray and
- 1:56:01Speaker 2: why he did Garfield, because he thought it was the
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: other Ethan Coen that wrote it.
- 1:56:05Speaker 6: That is really funny, though.
- 1:56:07Speaker 2: I guess his name is Ethan, the screenwriter, but because
- 1:56:10Speaker 2: of the Writer's Guild, he had to drop a letter
- 1:56:13Speaker 2: or something.
- 1:56:16Speaker 6: It also makes that scene in Zombieland even funnier. That
- 1:56:22Speaker 6: would be a really weird Garfield movie. The Coen brothers
- 1:56:26Speaker 6: present Garfield.
- 1:56:28Speaker 2: La La Land production design.
- 1:56:31Speaker 6: Yeah, it's pretty damn impressive.
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: I don't really, like, I was talking to my girlfriend
- 1:56:36Speaker 2: about this, like, the only musicals that I like are
- 1:56:40Speaker 2: set in, like, a real world, because she loves Moulin Rouge,
- 1:56:42Speaker 2: and I really didn't like that movie. I can respect it.
- 1:56:45Speaker 2: I mean, I know it takes a lot of effort
- 1:56:46Speaker 2: to do all that, but it's kind of too whimsical,
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: the setting. But, like, something like La La Land, it's actually...
- 1:56:51Speaker 2: Kind of in the here and now. I can get
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: into that.
- 1:56:54Speaker 6: For the longest time, I was like, my only musicals
- 1:56:58Speaker 6: that I enjoy are about people dying.
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: Sweeney Todd.
- 1:57:02Speaker 6: That's pretty true.
- 1:57:04Speaker 2: Sweeney Todd.
- 1:57:05Speaker 6: Sweeney Todd's pretty good. Again, my go-to Jesus Christ Superstar.
- 1:57:10Speaker 6: That's all about killing a guy. Phantom. Yeah, he murders people.
- 1:57:15Speaker 6: I like that one. Little Shop of Horrors. I was like, yep,
- 1:57:19Speaker 6: death is a big part of all my musicals.
- 1:57:22Speaker 2: I like guys and dolls.
- 1:57:24Speaker 6: Not enough dead people there.
- 1:57:26Speaker 2: You could have dead guys and zombie dolls.
- 1:57:35Speaker 6: I've expanded a little since then. Alright, I'm going to
- 1:57:39Speaker 6: round this thing out. For everyone who didn't like the
- 1:57:44Speaker 6: nominees or the winners, to you all I have to
- 1:57:47Speaker 6: say is, did you vote? Screw you guys. If you
- 1:57:51Speaker 6: want to get involved, you can email me between now
- 1:57:55Speaker 6: and next year. You've got a year to get your
- 1:57:57Speaker 6: shit together. And maybe next year you can actually affect
- 1:58:01Speaker 6: the way the voting goes. By the way, this works
- 1:58:03Speaker 6: in the real world. Be the change but more importantly
- 1:58:06Speaker 6: the foilers so if you uh want things differently next
- 1:58:10Speaker 6: year get involved but for the rest of you people
- 1:58:13Speaker 6: who did vote more importantly you guys are awesome as
- 1:58:17Speaker 6: i said this is probably the best response we've had
- 1:58:20Speaker 6: with my prompting so thank you to everyone who actually
- 1:58:23Speaker 6: did take the time it's because i.
- 1:58:25Speaker 4: Started coming on the show more regularly so thanks everybody
- 1:58:28Speaker 4: for your support.
- 1:58:30Speaker 6: So all those emails that have been coming in going,
- 1:58:31Speaker 6: who the fuck is this Jacqueline? God. There was a
- 1:58:37Speaker 6: lot of that. It was just written out.
- 1:58:39Speaker 9: God.
- 1:58:41Speaker 6: Why is she there? I mean, sure, Grendel. Every week
- 1:58:46Speaker 6: we want that. But Jacqueline, not so much. But yeah,
- 1:58:51Speaker 6: for those of you who did take the time to vote,
- 1:58:54Speaker 6: there's a lot of categories. A lot of movies that
- 1:58:56Speaker 6: you probably were like, oh shit, I haven't seen those. So,
- 1:58:58Speaker 6: I feel for you. I'm in the same boat most
- 1:59:00Speaker 6: of the time. So, thank you for getting involved. Feel
- 1:59:04Speaker 6: free to do that in many levels, like, I don't know,
- 1:59:07Speaker 6: supporting us on Patreon. But that, not even that, like,
- 1:59:10Speaker 6: not everybody wants to do that. The other things I
- 1:59:13Speaker 6: haven't seen lately, I remember when people used to, like,
- 1:59:16Speaker 6: share things, or retweet, or, I don't know, physically talk
- 1:59:21Speaker 6: to people in the world and be like, hey, listen
- 1:59:23Speaker 6: to this show. That's the thing that's, like, dropped off
- 1:59:26Speaker 6: massively lately, and I don't know if it's just here
- 1:59:29Speaker 6: or in general, but nobody really mentions anything virally. Nobody computer-wise.
- 1:59:38Speaker 6: I mean, some of it's that.
- 1:59:39Speaker 2: It's tough while on Facebook right now. I run into
- 1:59:42Speaker 2: this with my job, marketing library events. Organic reach as
- 1:59:46Speaker 2: of last year on the Facebook post is 6%. Unless
- 1:59:50Speaker 2: you're dropping money in. which you can, you can drop
- 1:59:52Speaker 2: a little money in and get some, but if you
- 1:59:54Speaker 2: don't tailor your audience, if you're not like in an
- 1:59:56Speaker 2: area where people click, like it's, it's, it's a tough game.
- 1:59:59Speaker 6: What little I've messed with, with that doesn't work either.
- 2:00:02Speaker 6: The Facebook advertising is kind of a joke.
- 2:00:05Speaker 2: I've seen minimal return on it. It puts it up
- 2:00:07Speaker 2: and it says X amount of people see it, but
- 2:00:10Speaker 2: they don't necessarily engage with it.
- 2:00:12Speaker 6: So to me, it's like, I don't know. That's why
- 2:00:13Speaker 6: I'm kind of to the point of being like, if,
- 2:00:16Speaker 6: if any of this nonsense matters, like just pass it
- 2:00:19Speaker 6: along to people. Like, directly like if there's anybody that
- 2:00:23Speaker 6: you think hey you like movies you might enjoy these
- 2:00:26Speaker 6: idiots yammering on just pass it along that's yeah that's
- 2:00:30Speaker 6: the biggest help i think we could have at this
- 2:00:32Speaker 6: point so feel free spread the word tell them not
- 2:00:36Speaker 6: to start on this.
- 2:00:37Speaker 2: Episode pass out some religious tracks.
- 2:00:39Speaker 4: Yeah download a podcast put it on a tape cassette.
- 2:00:43Speaker 2: Give it to your friend.
- 2:00:44Speaker 6: Are you hipster-ing it up?
- 2:00:45Speaker 2: The Brian Meltdown mixtape. Dropping 2017. That I'm okay with.
- 2:00:51Speaker 6: Can I help mix a track? I at least want
- 2:00:53Speaker 6: to do a track or two.
- 2:00:56Speaker 2: I'll wrap over. I'll be like the Puff Daddy guest squad.
- 2:00:59Speaker 6: I don't think I want that. I've done a hell
- 2:01:01Speaker 6: of a lot of editing now. I want to put
- 2:01:03Speaker 6: together a weird mix track. Let's get that going, too.
- 2:01:06Speaker 6: I do want to do some Meltdown exclusive tracks. Like
- 2:01:10Speaker 6: my own bastardized... We are our own religion, right? So
- 2:01:14Speaker 6: I really would like to do some Chick track type
- 2:01:18Speaker 6: of things.
- 2:01:19Speaker 2: That would be awesome.
- 2:01:19Speaker 6: I've seen other people do it, but I kind of
- 2:01:22Speaker 6: don't care. Our comic was almost the size of a
- 2:01:25Speaker 6: Chick track. We did have our own comic.
- 2:01:27Speaker 2: I did not know that.
- 2:01:30Speaker 6: It was an exclusive for a previous fundraiser. But the
- 2:01:35Speaker 6: people that got it, special bonus points to that person
- 2:01:39Speaker 6: who put it together. Who may be listening right now.
- 2:01:42Speaker 6: Because I believe he's still supporting us even to this day.
- 2:01:45Speaker 6: So awesomeness to that guy. He's super cool.
- 2:01:49Speaker 2: Join the church of Meltdown-tology.
- 2:01:51Speaker 6: If you want to get another issue of the comic going,
- 2:01:54Speaker 6: let's get that started too.
- 2:01:57Speaker 2: All right.
- 2:01:57Speaker 6: Anything else to pass along this year?
- 2:02:00Speaker 2: We don't have a best picture yet. Who you guys
- 2:02:03Speaker 2: got in best picture?
- 2:02:05Speaker 6: Probably Deadpool, right? It's probably Deadpool.
- 2:02:10Speaker 2: Deadpool is going to surprise everybody. What a twist.
- 2:02:14Speaker 6: I mean, people were actually kind of assuming, because it's
- 2:02:17Speaker 6: that whiter spot, that because of the Golden Globes, I
- 2:02:20Speaker 6: was like, there's no way in hell they're nominating Deadpool.
- 2:02:23Speaker 6: I'm like, it's nice that it got some spoiler nominees,
- 2:02:28Speaker 6: but I'm like, there's no way it's coming in for this.
- 2:02:31Speaker 2: I'm going to go with La La Land. That's not
- 2:02:33Speaker 2: necessarily my favorite movie of the year. I really, really,
- 2:02:35Speaker 2: really liked it, but it seems to be at the
- 2:02:37Speaker 2: top of everybody's list.
- 2:02:38Speaker 4: I mean, I'm sure La La Land's going to win,
- 2:02:41Speaker 4: but Moonlight's probably mine.
- 2:02:44Speaker 2: What's your best picture, Brian, of the nominees?
- 2:02:46Speaker 6: Of what they're going to win? No, what would you
- 2:02:49Speaker 6: prefer to win?
- 2:02:50Speaker 2: Tell us what you would prefer to win, and then
- 2:02:51Speaker 2: tell us what you think is going to win.
- 2:02:52Speaker 6: What are all the options again, because now I don't remember.
- 2:02:54Speaker 4: I don't remember.
- 2:02:55Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying.
- 2:02:56Speaker 2: I figured that would be a good way to end on.
- 2:02:57Speaker 6: I'd have to look at them.
- 2:02:59Speaker 7: Jackie.
- 2:03:00Speaker 6: Never heard of it.
- 2:03:02Speaker 2: All in Moonlight. Triple X returns in a cage.
- 2:03:06Speaker 6: Triple X. I don't remember. Is it just me or
- 2:03:12Speaker 6: is Arrival nominated for Best Picture?
- 2:03:14Speaker 2: I think it was. I thought it was.
- 2:03:16Speaker 6: That's weird since it didn't get so many other things.
- 2:03:20Speaker 6: I was surprised.
- 2:03:21Speaker 2: There's so many nominees now.
- 2:03:23Speaker 6: I didn't even pay attention because they're not the foilers
- 2:03:28Speaker 6: so who cares. I'm still assuming La La Land's going
- 2:03:32Speaker 6: to win. Of the other ones, again, I'm buying several
- 2:03:36Speaker 6: of them, but I really liked Arrival. Seeing that it's
- 2:03:39Speaker 6: on there, I'm surprised it made it that far in
- 2:03:42Speaker 6: the running. I don't think it's got a shot in hell,
- 2:03:46Speaker 6: but I really liked it. And Hell or High Water's
- 2:03:49Speaker 6: on there. That's pretty awesome, too.
- 2:03:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I did like Hell or High Water.
- 2:03:53Speaker 6: But, you know, it's La La Land.
- 2:03:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:03:57Speaker 6: It's La La Land taking place in what city? So
- 2:04:01Speaker 6: I think it's going to win. Right. So with that,
- 2:04:06Speaker 6: I guess we've survived another Oscar meltdown. Thank you for
- 2:04:12Speaker 6: joining us on this crazy pork-filled journey. Otherwise, that about
- 2:04:17Speaker 6: does it. We will return next time. Same geek feed.
- 2:04:19Speaker 6: Thanks for listening.
- 2:04:20Speaker 2: I'm sorry. No. There's a mistake.
- 2:04:24Speaker 6: Moonlight, you guys won Best Picture.
- 2:04:42Speaker 8: I can't stand it. I know you're playing it. Listen up,
- 2:05:18Speaker 8: cause I can't say nothing You shut me down with
- 2:05:22Speaker 8: a punch on your butt But you, I'm out and
- 2:05:26Speaker 8: I'm gone I tell you now.
- 2:05:28Speaker 13: I keep it on.
- 2:05:38Speaker 8: And on Once what you see, you might not get
- 2:05:42Speaker 8: And when you're back, so do I We'll be right back.
- 2:06:47Speaker 7: We'll be right back.
- 2:07:24Speaker 1: God.
- 2:07:26Speaker 6: Grendel.
- 2:07:27Speaker 10: She's trying to.
- 2:07:28Speaker 6: Start a fire.
