- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Jirit Akara Kanasita Amshir An Shin Ansho E Draw Virginia Tal Shagrienwar here in Virginia Beach it is sunny.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Today we are going to be talking about irregular verbs.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: And because we're working on the present tense we're going to introduce them in their present tense form.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: But keep in mind that these verbs are always irregular in any form they take.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: There are fewer of them in Irish than in English.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: In Irish there are eleven of them.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Six of those eleven are considered super irregular, meaning that they are more irregular than the other five.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: The super irregulars will behave differently in nearly every tense, but the irregulars may conform at times, at least more than the supers do.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: So the supers are to be B to say Aber to see Feck to get Fi to go te and to make slash do Dan The irregulars that are not super irregular are to give Towers to catch grab birth it's a variety of things bears to eat i to hear clush and to come tor.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Let's look at how they conjugate and negate in the present tense.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: We're gonna start with the irregulars first, and then we will go into the super irregulars.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And I would suggest you look at the notes for this to see how they're spelled.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: I think it may be too large to put in the show notes and I'll probably put it on a sub stack and link it in the show notes, but I'll give it a crack anyway.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: So let's go.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: We'll start with to give because to give is better than to receive, they say.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: To give tower conjugated it is toggen.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: The syncopated form for me is togum.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: The negation is ni huggen.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: The syncopated form for me is ni huggum.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: To ask a question you would say unduggen.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: The syncopated form for me is undugum.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Moving on to the many talented bear, which is to catch, to grab or to bear, as in like birth.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Conjugated is Bierin.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Asyncopated for Mei is Bierim.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: The negation is ni Vierin.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Asyncopated for Me is ni Vierim.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: To ask a question would be an Mierin.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Asyncopated for Mei is an Mierem.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: To eat I conjugated is Iin.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Asyncopated for Mei is Iim.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: Negation is ni IN.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Asyncopated for Mei is ni Ihim.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: To ask a question is an IN Syncopated for Mei is an Iim.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Wait a minute.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Why is there no end dash?
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Now we learned in the episode before last that when we ask a question, an triggers the Uru and the Uru for vowels is an end dash.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: But that doesn't happen on it.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: And actually doesn't happen on any verb in the present tense that starts with a vowel when asking a question.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: We're gonna cover this in the next episode, but the short and provocative answer is DNTLS or dentals.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: But for now, just keep in mind, when you're asking a question with itn, you're not going to use the Uru, it is just an I Next up we have to hear, which is clush.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Conjugated is clushin Asyncopated for Mei is clushim.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Negated is knee clushin.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Asyncopated for Mei is ni clushim.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: To ask a question unglushin Asyncopated for Mei is unglushim To come tar conjugated is tagin asyncopated for Mei is Tagum Negated is Ni Hagen Asyncopated for May is Ni Hagum To ask a question is undagen and the syncopated for Mei is undagum.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: So now we're going to go into the super irregulars.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: The first one we've already covered a lot just because it is a verb that is used quite a bit in a lot of structures in Irish, and that is to be or be.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: But so we already know that the conjugated form of to be in the present tense is tall, and the syncopated for me is tom.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Negation is neil, the syncopated for me is neilem.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: To ask a question, we would say on will or on will, and the syncopated for me is om willem.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Next is to say abur which is also very irregular even within the super irregulars.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Conjugated is dare.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Wow aber and then dare.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: So you can see it's quite a bit different.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: The syncopated for me is derum.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: The negation is ni der and the syncopated for me is ni derum.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: To ask a question we would say unir and the syncopated for me is unirum.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: You may note that there's no ending attached to the present tense aber dare.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: It's always just dare.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: And you may also note that there's no shavu when we negate it.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: And that's because the verb abr never gets a shavu in the present tense and in the past tense when it's negated.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Moving on we have t see, which sounds funny to some English speakers because it's feck.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Conjugated is feckin.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: The syncopated for me is feckem.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Negated it would be ni econ.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Syncopated for me is ni ekem.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: To ask a question we'd say on vecen.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Asyncopated for me would be on veckem.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: Next up is to get, which is fi.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Conjugated it is fian.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: Asyncopated for me is phium.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Negated it's ni.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Asyncopated for me is ni.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: To ask a question we'd say on vion.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Asyncopated for me is on vium.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Alright, to go te conjugated it is tein.

- 8:13SPEAKER_00: Asyncopated for me is ni heim.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: To ask a question we would say on dayan and the syncopated form for me is on daim.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: And last up we have the verb to make or to do, and that is tien.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Conjugated it is dian and the syncopated for me would be deinem.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Negated it would be ni yeen.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: The syncopated for me would be nium.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: To ask a question we would say an syncopated for me form is an I haven't included the syncopated we in any of these.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: I would urge you yourself to go onto Chonglin Punk IE, type these verbs in, go over to the grammar tab, in the drop down menu hit present tense.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: And you will see all of these verbs conjugated, negated, and in question of form there.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: And as always, please, please put these into Aberpunk IE to hear how they're actually supposed to be said rather than said by someone with a very American accent who is not a native speaker.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: And that's it.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: As I said, we're going to be touching on dentals in the next episode.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: So uh hope to see you then.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: And uh Salon Gafal.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Bye.
