- 0:00Speaker 1: It is an email of intrap Well.
- 0:03Speaker 2: A while ago. Gina was waxing nostalgic for her childhood
- 0:10Speaker 2: in Idaho, and Caldwell was Nampa, Nampa and about the
- 0:15Speaker 2: carture Mall where there was a stuffed polar bear in
- 0:21Speaker 2: a glass, big glass case.
- 0:23Speaker 3: My memory of it.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Well, little kid, here it is Sketchy Blake from Ogden.
- 0:28Speaker 2: This is your radio from hell Field report from Sketchy Blake, Ogden,
- 0:33Speaker 2: your humble servant in the trenches of mid tier mystery
- 0:37Speaker 2: and lightly fried meat. So there I was, dutifully making
- 0:41Speaker 2: my way to Boise on assignment for Gina, chasing the
- 0:44Speaker 2: great Idaho tradition of fingersteaks, because apparently fried beef strips
- 0:50Speaker 2: are a cornerstone of our cultural identity now. But like
- 0:54Speaker 2: any good investigative journalist with ADHD, I was swiftly derailed
- 0:58Speaker 2: by a bigger story, the mystery of the missing Carture
- 1:03Speaker 2: Mall polar bear. Yes, now, before we go further, let
- 1:07Speaker 2: me say this. Everyone loves a polar bear, sure, but
- 1:11Speaker 2: if you ever actually looked at the carture Mall display,
- 1:14Speaker 2: you'd know this was not the Coca Cola commercial material. No,
- 1:18Speaker 2: this bear looked like it was mid lunge jaws agape
- 1:23Speaker 2: about to obliterate a baby seal, oh, which, having lived
- 1:27Speaker 2: in Idaho for several years, feels disturbingly on brand.
- 1:30Speaker 1: There was a baby seal there as well.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Rible, So what happened to this bloodthirsty icon of potatoes
- 1:37Speaker 2: suburban taxidermy? I hit the hallowed halls of the Carter Mall,
- 1:41Speaker 2: still very much open for business if your business involves
- 1:44Speaker 2: questionable cell phone cases and anxiety. I asked several locals
- 1:49Speaker 2: about the polar bear, most of whom looked at me
- 1:52Speaker 2: like I'd lost all my potatoes. Eventually I found some
- 1:56Speaker 2: longtime Idahoans who knew exactly what I was talking about. Yeah,
- 2:00Speaker 2: whispered of a rumor, because of course, there's a rumor
- 2:03Speaker 2: that the bear had been relocated to the Health and
- 2:07Speaker 2: Science Center and Northwest Nazarene Nazarene University in Nampa. Naturally,
- 2:14Speaker 2: I pursued this hot tip like the serious journalist I
- 2:17Speaker 2: pretend to be. After wandering through the sterile academic hallways
- 2:20Speaker 2: that smelt like lab gloves and existential death, I found it.
- 2:24Speaker 2: A massive polar bear named Ivan, a true specimen and
- 2:30Speaker 2: based on its menacing glare and unspoken trauma. I was
- 2:33Speaker 2: eighty four percent sure that this was the Carter Bear,
- 2:37Speaker 2: but the seal gone oh likely digested one student's drug,
- 2:43Speaker 2: but another student freshman nave blue graph confirmed this bear
- 2:49Speaker 2: used to be a rug. Yes, the majestic mascot of
- 2:53Speaker 2: the Northwest Nazarene was once walked upon by someone's uncle
- 2:57Speaker 2: before being stuffed and propped up in a Christian universe
- 3:00Speaker 2: any lobby, truly the circle of life. But this was
- 3:03Speaker 2: not the bear we were looking for. No, no, it's
- 3:06Speaker 2: not the one. Feeling only mildly defeated and fully out
- 3:10Speaker 2: of gas station burritos, I made my way back to
- 3:12Speaker 2: the Nampa Motel six and took my search online. And
- 3:15Speaker 2: what did I find? According to some highly credible Internet sleuths,
- 3:19Speaker 2: and by that I mean read it, the polar Bear
- 3:22Speaker 2: and shockingly, the fully undigested seal are now living their
- 3:26Speaker 2: best diorama life at a Cabella's in Fargo, North Dakota. Yes, Fargo,
- 3:34Speaker 2: I've attached to photo. I should have given this decadia
- 3:38Speaker 2: for evidence for your review. Though, let's be honest with
- 3:41Speaker 2: how good AI these days, it's just possibly be a
- 3:44Speaker 2: deep fake or particularly an elaborate tax evasion. Well, I
- 3:48Speaker 2: could travel to Fargo to confirm. While sure, but I
- 3:50Speaker 2: have some freaking fingerstakes to report on. This has been
- 3:53Speaker 2: your radio from hell. Field corresponded, I'm Sketchy Blake of Ogden,
- 3:57Speaker 2: still stakeless, still confused, steal, still haunted by that seal.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Well done, Well done, Sketchy Blake. Let's see in the
- 4:06Speaker 1: Google polar Bear Cabbella's Fargo.
- 4:12Speaker 2: I uh, yeah, the picture, he said, is kind of sketchy.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Demetri says she knows some people who moved here from Fargo.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Doesn't don't know if that helps.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go. I think this is the I
- 4:27Speaker 2: think this is probably your polar bear.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Okay, let's see taxidermy polar bear at Cabela's. This one
- 4:36Speaker 3: has a little seal.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Ah, are there any pictures?
- 4:41Speaker 3: There's pictures.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Does it look like the one you remember? You're not convinced.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I'm not convinced you are here.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Come and look at Sketchy Blake's Yeah, look at Sketchy
- 4:53Speaker 1: Blake's picture. Let's see.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I don't know. I think he got this online.
- 4:56Speaker 1: My god, We'll get to the bottom of this.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Kind of not.
- 5:00Speaker 3: The one.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Well, this is it.
- 5:02Speaker 1: This is a that's the one that's Carter Mall carpet.
- 5:07Speaker 1: That's the red carpet from cart So this is an
- 5:09Speaker 1: old but.
- 5:10Speaker 3: They're always pointing at it right there.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Okay, what's that?
- 5:13Speaker 3: That's the mouth open there and the mouth open there.
- 5:19Speaker 2: So it is so it is there?
- 5:21Speaker 3: That could so it is that that could be.
- 5:24Speaker 1: If it's that, there must be better pictures of it.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Terrible picture.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I mean, everybody's got a damn camera. That must be,
- 5:33Speaker 1: and everybody's got a social media.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Here's here's a better picture of it.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I mean there must be.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah, that I think that's it. It's very similar.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Have we solved the mystery?
- 5:44Speaker 3: I think we may have.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Should Sketchy Blake has solved the mystery.
- 5:48Speaker 3: I'm so pleased with your reporting. Sketchy place there it is?
- 5:52Speaker 3: That's that's the one that call what.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Why do they have a dead baby seal there?
- 5:58Speaker 2: Because that's what polar bears do.
- 5:59Speaker 1: That's it's just terrible.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Let's good, look kids, he's gonna eat the seal.
- 6:05Speaker 3: I'm so happy about this information.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I don't know why it was at the mall.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Is Sketchy Blake single? I may be a love I
- 6:14Speaker 1: don't text her.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I don't think.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Well, you know, earlier I saw Blake texting in that
- 6:22Speaker 3: his daughter Dawson really wants to go to the Lowly
- 6:27Speaker 3: Young Show. She didn't win those tickets, but Katie, I think,
- 6:32Speaker 3: based on this reporting, I mean, sketchy Blake went way
- 6:35Speaker 3: out of his way. I think we should find so.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Well, he didn't bring us any fingerstaks, that's true.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I think we should find Katie's going to see if
- 6:44Speaker 1: she can make that happen.
- 6:45Speaker 3: I think we need to make that happen. But excellent report.
- 6:49Speaker 2: That must be.
- 6:49Speaker 1: So, yeah, maybe you can go and talk to promotions.
- 6:52Speaker 3: We'll make that happen.
- 6:53Speaker 1: See if we can make that work. Well, I'm just
- 6:58Speaker 1: we can sleep now.
- 7:01Speaker 3: You don't understand. So that mall, that the red carpet
- 7:05Speaker 3: at the mall. Part of the reason I remember that
- 7:07Speaker 3: carpet so vividly is my baby sister Carrie. I was
- 7:14Speaker 3: pushing her in a stroller there and I was running
- 7:18Speaker 3: with the stroller because that's fun. Yeah, and uh, I
- 7:22Speaker 3: stopped too fast and she wasn't buckled in and she
- 7:26Speaker 3: went flying onto the onto the onto the red carpet.
- 7:31Speaker 3: She was fine. But at school, we were doing confession
- 7:36Speaker 3: at my Catholic School up there, and when I went
- 7:38Speaker 3: to confession, I confessed that I dumped my baby sister
- 7:41Speaker 3: out on the red carpet at the Carture mall and
- 7:44Speaker 3: I had to say several Hail Mary's, and polar Bear
- 7:47Speaker 3: almost got her.
- 7:48Speaker 1: See, I was worried that it was your sister's blood
- 7:50Speaker 1: that made the carpet red. But apparently it's the seal,
- 7:53Speaker 1: the dead baby baby seal. Mister email of interest.
- 8:06Speaker 3: So I'm glad he didn't call in. That was better
- 8:08Speaker 3: as a letter.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a
