Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: You shouldn't be, let me say, early in the morning
- 0:11Speaker 1: here on Saturday morning, on one leg up with Alex Garrett,
- 0:14Speaker 1: the train collector I had just ran into, messed with
- 0:18Speaker 1: the wrong podcaster, messed with the wrong person with disability.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I don't every day identify as someone with disability, but
- 0:27Speaker 1: it's just seene right. It's obvious I rolled back on
- 0:30Speaker 1: one leg with crutches. But now what the train collector
- 0:34Speaker 1: today on the Port Washington LRR line did is so
- 0:39Speaker 1: egregious I have to talk about it. So if you're
- 0:42Speaker 1: listening another train collector from traincar seven four nine five
- 0:45Speaker 1: zero on the five thirty nine from Port Washington, listen up. Pal.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I could have confronted you face to face about this,
- 0:56Speaker 1: but I want to do this on a bigger platform
- 0:58Speaker 1: because what I witnessed today is something worth talking about.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I'd be dumb to have this platform all like up
- 1:05Speaker 1: with Alex Garrett if I didn't discuss these everyday adventures
- 1:09Speaker 1: that I sometimes go through, and this one, this one
- 1:15Speaker 1: is beyond the pale. So I'm sitting down, maybe scrolling
- 1:20Speaker 1: through TikTok during my commute in to do some radio
- 1:23Speaker 1: early in the morning, and then all of a sudden,
- 1:27Speaker 1: this train collector collects a disability ticket from someone who
- 1:32Speaker 1: I talked to after this whole incident happened, who had
- 1:36Speaker 1: an invisible disability. And what does he tell the person
- 1:40Speaker 1: with the invisible disability? Oh, you're not disabled, No way,
- 1:45Speaker 1: you're disabled, basically is the premise of this. So he
- 1:49Speaker 1: calls the transit cops on this guy who has a
- 1:53Speaker 1: senior disabled ticket, who tells him I'm disabled, and this
- 1:57Speaker 1: train collector says, no, you're not. And here's where I
- 2:01Speaker 1: get involved. He looks at me and says, oh, see him,
- 2:04Speaker 1: I know he's disabled. See him, I know he's disabled.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Don't worry. This is in writing. I wrote that to
- 2:13Speaker 1: the LAR, this message that in train cars seven four
- 2:16Speaker 1: nine five zero, I witnessed harassment of someone with disability,
- 2:22Speaker 1: and ironically it wasn't me, but I was thrown in
- 2:25Speaker 1: the mix here. So to that train collector who thinks
- 2:29Speaker 1: they got away from this, you did not. I may
- 2:32Speaker 1: look meek and mild or whatever you want to say,
- 2:35Speaker 1: or weak, I'm not. I have a voice, I have
- 2:38Speaker 1: a platform, and I'm gonna use it right now. To
- 2:42Speaker 1: the LR. Remember, not all disability is visible. Let me
- 2:48Speaker 1: say that again, not all disability is visible. Yes, I
- 2:51Speaker 1: rolled it on one leg and crutches. Yes, I might
- 2:55Speaker 1: look so, you know whatever, But I'm not. I'm the
- 3:00Speaker 1: fastest mother eff out there. And let me tell you something, folks,
- 3:05Speaker 1: let me tell you this guy messed with the wrong person.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I'm not just some commuter. I have a podcast, I
- 3:12Speaker 1: have a platform, and I will be tagging the LR
- 3:15Speaker 1: in this experience because they should know that what I
- 3:19Speaker 1: witnessed on the five point thirty nine from Port Washington
- 3:22Speaker 1: to New York City today is unacceptable. To tell someone
- 3:29Speaker 1: who says to you you have a disability, to tell them, oh, no,
- 3:31Speaker 1: you don't, is is egregious. And then to throw me
- 3:36Speaker 1: in the mixing say see he has a disability. I'm stunned. Actually,
- 3:43Speaker 1: I can't get over it. And I was honestly just
- 3:46Speaker 1: trying to get my ticket out myself, or I would
- 3:49Speaker 1: have rolled on this guy because the interaction I saw,
- 3:54Speaker 1: and then the post ride effect as well, when this
- 4:00Speaker 1: elector called six cops for a three dollars extra fare.
- 4:04Speaker 1: There are illegals running through the city for free, Yet
- 4:08Speaker 1: this guy gets sicked done for three dollars. A hard
- 4:12Speaker 1: working American gets sicked done by the way. I often
- 4:16Speaker 1: feel like all train commuters should get a free ride anyway,
- 4:20Speaker 1: because we're giving everybody else free things, right, disability or not.
- 4:24Speaker 1: The LR should be free at this point because there's
- 4:27Speaker 1: fury evasion anyway, and and puel disabilities shouldn't even have
- 4:36Speaker 1: to pay. Do I sound radical? Not? When you have
- 4:39Speaker 1: thousands of people in this city here illegally living off
- 4:44Speaker 1: our dime, that's not radical anymore. So if you're gonna
- 4:50Speaker 1: tell me and loop me in and say, oh see
- 4:53Speaker 1: he's disabled to another passenger with disabilities whose disability is invisible,
- 4:59Speaker 1: shame on you. You and the l R. I can't
- 5:02Speaker 1: fault them entirely because you know they're not all there.
- 5:07Speaker 1: But it just shows me the institutional problem of not
- 5:12Speaker 1: all of these collectors being educated. So you know how
- 5:16Speaker 1: they shut down Starbucks for a day after the sensitivity
- 5:21Speaker 1: training bull crap. Do that for the l R. Shut
- 5:25Speaker 1: it down for an entire day if you have to
- 5:28Speaker 1: to retrain every collector and every conductor that people with
- 5:33Speaker 1: disabilities matter too seen or unseen. Because I don't want
- 5:37Speaker 1: to have to go through what I went through today.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I don't want to have to be singled out for
- 5:43Speaker 1: having crutches on one leg, as see he's disabled. That
- 5:47Speaker 1: collector should be either sensitively trained or fired for the discrimination. Really,
- 5:55Speaker 1: to tell a passenger, oh, you don't have a disability
- 5:58Speaker 1: is the most out rageous thing I've ever heard. And
- 6:02Speaker 1: I have a platform, and I'm gonna tell you about this,
- 6:05Speaker 1: and I will tell you what the LR says, because
- 6:07Speaker 1: I message them directly about this. The argument was why
- 6:16Speaker 1: I didn't have proofect disability. Well, you know what, You
- 6:18Speaker 1: know what, not every disability is seen or unseen. Not
- 6:22Speaker 1: everybody's gonna carry their profet disability. Actually, every fricking person
- 6:25Speaker 1: wants to live their day and not be harassed by
- 6:28Speaker 1: an LR train collector. Wuldn't that be nice? And there
- 6:33Speaker 1: are always good collectors and good people on the LR.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I acknowledge that, but this one incident where I'm looped
- 6:40Speaker 1: into this now really threw me for a loop this morning,
- 6:45Speaker 1: because for every amazing collector out there and conductor out
- 6:49Speaker 1: there who actually puts the bridgeh plate down for Gabby
- 6:51Speaker 1: and make sure we're on the train safely, I didn't
- 6:55Speaker 1: realize there were still those that are ignorant, and that
- 6:59Speaker 1: ignorance not be we pay millions of dollars to the
- 7:03Speaker 1: lr and a three dollars extra fare is worth calling
- 7:08Speaker 1: six cops on someone who had a disability card, an
- 7:11Speaker 1: unseen disability. Do better be more tolerable, be more tolerant,
- 7:23Speaker 1: because these incidences should not go unnoticed. And I'm not
- 7:27Speaker 1: letting this one slide here on the Alex Scatt podcast network.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I'll keep you updating what the lr R says. But
- 7:35Speaker 1: imagine we pay billions of dollars to this institution and
- 7:41Speaker 1: they come back and one of their collectors has the
- 7:46Speaker 1: goal to say, look at this guy, he's disabled. I
- 7:48Speaker 1: know he's disabled. What about you? You have no disability?
- 7:51Speaker 1: To the other passenger with disabilities, invisible disabilities matters. To
- 7:57Speaker 1: my friend Alyssa Lewis Bailey points us out a lot,
- 8:02Speaker 1: and she's right on the money with it. Two unseen
- 8:07Speaker 1: disabilities are a thing. And this is why we can't
- 8:13Speaker 1: just honor Disability Pride month just once every twelve months.
- 8:17Speaker 1: It's gotta be every day because there are guys like
- 8:20Speaker 1: this passenger with a bad back who go to work
- 8:24Speaker 1: still through the pain, and you're gonna harass him the
- 8:28Speaker 1: hardworking American. Yet let thousands of illegals come here and
- 8:33Speaker 1: be here for free. I've been wanting to talk about this,
- 8:35Speaker 1: but I hadn't found the right angle. And now it's here.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Now it's here cause I don't want to say I'm
- 8:44Speaker 1: getting resentful or resentment, but I have to say every
- 8:49Speaker 1: time I have to pay six point fifty for a
- 8:51Speaker 1: train ride, yeah it's half fair or whatever. But I
- 8:55Speaker 1: look at the bigger picture, and the bigger picture is
- 8:59Speaker 1: American's disabilities are getting screwed. A regular Americans who are
- 9:04Speaker 1: able bodies are getting screwed too. Why because we're not
- 9:09Speaker 1: coming first in this country. We're not you know who
- 9:13Speaker 1: is those crossing the border illegally and now we're gonna
- 9:20Speaker 1: give amnesty. It's all connected in my view. It is
- 9:26Speaker 1: because the negligence of the American people, exemplified by this
- 9:32Speaker 1: today and exemplified every day, is a reason why we
- 9:38Speaker 1: should also vote in twenty twenty four. It's all connected
- 9:43Speaker 1: to me because as an American disabilities, who pays taxes,
- 9:46Speaker 1: who works hard, and now it's the being looped in
- 9:49Speaker 1: as see I know he's disabled. I'm fed up, I'm
- 9:53Speaker 1: fired up. I've been doing the online radio thing and
- 9:59Speaker 1: the radio thing for fifty fteen years as of October fifteenth,
- 10:02Speaker 1: twenty oh nine, and in my fifteen years, I've never
- 10:09Speaker 1: been looped in like this. But you know what, it's
- 10:14Speaker 1: a blessing because now I get to really open the
- 10:17Speaker 1: forum on this. You've opened this can of worms LRR.
- 10:25Speaker 1: You've hired someone that clearly thinks someone with disability should
- 10:32Speaker 1: be in a power chair or uncretchable one leg, when
- 10:36Speaker 1: really we all could have some kind of disability seen
- 10:39Speaker 1: or unseen. And then, to further the point, it's another
- 10:44Speaker 1: reason why I'm getting fed up with having to pay
- 10:47Speaker 1: six fifty because they typically just come right over and
- 10:52Speaker 1: say where's your ticket? Or they hover over you. Ken,
- 10:57Speaker 1: you have your collectors ease up on us a little
- 11:00Speaker 1: little bit, especially when I know that thousands of illegals
- 11:04Speaker 1: are running rampant in this country taking up all our benefits.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Can you ease up on people with disabilities and specifically
- 11:10Speaker 1: Americans who just want to get to him from work.
- 11:15Speaker 1: This feels like a watershed moment, and you might think, well, Alex,
- 11:19Speaker 1: this is you know, it's just an experience. No, it's
- 11:21Speaker 1: not just an experience. I was looped into this, and
- 11:26Speaker 1: I have a platform to speak about it. So if
- 11:30Speaker 1: you don't like that I'm bringing in the illegals aspect
- 11:32Speaker 1: of this and the fact that we are paying way
- 11:35Speaker 1: too much considering that everybody else getting free crap, then
- 11:40Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Tune off then tune off then, but maybe
- 11:44Speaker 1: you should join the fight as well and say, hey,
- 11:46Speaker 1: guess what l I R tag them today? Why did
- 11:49Speaker 1: you loop in one leg? Up? Alex to this passenger
- 11:54Speaker 1: with disabilities who sas invisible disability, let's blast the LR
- 12:03Speaker 1: handle and call for this collector's absolute disregard for bid
- 12:14Speaker 1: with disabilities that are invisible disabilities? Can we do that?
- 12:25Speaker 1: Can we do that? I'm Alex Scarrett. We will be
- 12:31Speaker 1: going to the Aggies game later today. So if you
- 12:33Speaker 1: see someone rollerblading on one leg and you know Gaby
- 12:35Speaker 1: and her paracher, come on buy swing by and say hello,
- 12:38Speaker 1: excited to be at the one oh five game. I
- 12:40Speaker 1: know it's a doubleheader. Why they even rained out yesterday?
- 12:42Speaker 1: I have no idea, but these moments, and this moment
- 12:49Speaker 1: sticks out like a sore thumb. Can you imagine Can
- 12:55Speaker 1: you imagine if you were looked at and said, oh
- 12:57Speaker 1: see he's disabled or she's disabled. It's not right and
- 13:05Speaker 1: it should be corrected immediately. I don't care if you
- 13:09Speaker 1: have to have a day where there are no trains running.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I feel like people in Paris are cutting the train
- 13:15Speaker 1: lines for this reason alone, and so that's where I stand.
- 13:23Speaker 1: On the Alex Garret Podcast Network, l IRR do better
- 13:28Speaker 1: for people disabilities, for people with non disabilities, and don't
- 13:31Speaker 1: ever point to me again and say, oh, see he's disabled,
- 13:38Speaker 1: because that's just not cool, because A I don't identify
- 13:44Speaker 1: as that nine nine percent of the time, and be
- 13:46Speaker 1: so what, you can't use me as a reason to
- 13:52Speaker 1: charge someone three dollars more because they have an unseen disability.
- 14:00Speaker 1: A great Saturday on the Alex Garrett Podcast Network.
