- 0:26with GINO. As we get set for Yukon and Louisville, a Lee Edwards
- 0:30back to back double doubles in two games, including North Carolina being more aggressive
- 0:36to the basket. What have you thought of her game last couple of weeks
- 0:40since the Cayman trip. Well, there are certain things that have to happen
- 0:46for us to have a chance to win against the better teams on our schedule,
- 0:52and it might be for any teams on our schedule. So if you
- 0:55look at Aliyah's numbers, you look at her stats. Say in the Nancy
- 1:00State game, or the Texas game. The Texas game, she was really
- 1:06really, really really good. She was really engaged, and she was you
- 1:11know, being you know, I think she knew what the challenge was and
- 1:15really rose to the occasion. And unfortunately, you know, we we got
- 1:23off to it. Well, they got off to such a great start that
- 1:27I mean, I think they made their first eight or nine shots, I
- 1:30don't know, six, eight, nine and fourteen. That makes five threes
- 1:34a game. They made their first three. Yeah, So I mean,
- 1:36like stuff like that happens and you just can't you know. But she she
- 1:42was able to get a lot done and give us an opportunity. And then
- 1:45you know, the second half we outscored them, and she was a constant
- 1:49out there even though we were mixing and matching and changing. So we need
- 1:53her, We need her to win, We need her to play well.
- 2:00She didn't have a good game against UCLA, right, and you know,
- 2:05we need her to have great games against those people. So with Alaliah,
- 2:09without Page having their A games, it's hard for us to beat these top
- 2:15ten teams in the country. It's just the fact of life. I mean,
- 2:17we need those two to play great every night. Well that's a lot
- 2:22to ask. Well, yeah, that's just the world that we're living in
- 2:27right now. And you know, it's not like we've not been in a
- 2:30situation where you know, Diana had to get thirty some nights for us to
- 2:34win. I mean, it just is what it is, you know,
- 2:37It's got to be that way. So I think the more Leah pushes the
- 2:44envelope and the more she tries to do, and the more she can knock
- 2:46down that fifteen foot her and keep attacking the basket and you know, offensive
- 2:52rebound. It's one of the things I've been really harping on with her is,
- 2:58God knows, we certainly miss enough shots. There's a lot of offensive
- 3:01rebounds. There's a lot of offensive rebounds available, you know. So that's
- 3:08that's the that's the the blueprint for for for Leah is she's got to do
- 3:16all that for us, you know Ice. You know, she's young,
- 3:20so she might you know, contribute a lot something so maybe not at all
- 3:24some days. And it goes the same way with the other with the other
- 3:28freshmen. You know, you don't know, it might be great, might
- 3:30be not so great. But certainly for Leah and for Paige, that those
- 3:35two have to be constance. We cannot ever have a game against the top
- 3:40a top ten team, top twenty team maybe without those two players playing their
- 3:45best. And you've got big contributions in the second half from everybody. Against
- 3:49North Carolina, Nika knocked down three threes in the second half, Ashroen and
- 3:53Cadence with a couple of big hoops. Even KK got to the free throw
- 3:58line a lot. The page four locks really for blocks, three steels,
- 4:02I mean that takes away seven possessions. I mean that's that's important. Yeah,
- 4:08Well, she's longer than you think, Like she doesn't look at but
- 4:13she's longer than you think. And two she has a pretty good feel for
- 4:19you know, there's an old adage really that in order to be a really
- 4:27really effective offensive player, you really have to understand defense, and you have
- 4:32to understand what makes defenses work. So you'll find that a really good offensive
- 4:38player, if they want to, can be really good defenders because right,
- 4:44the reason they're so good on offense is they read the playing field and they
- 4:49know what's coming next, because that's what makes them so able to do things
- 4:54on the offensive. So because they know that they know what you're going to
- 4:59do, before you know what you're gonna do, so she can anticipate all
- 5:02this. That's why she gets steals, that's why she gets blocked, that's
- 5:04why she gets rebounds. She just has a feel for all that. And
- 5:11I think she's starting to get her her legs under her, you know,
- 5:15from not having played and so long. But yeah, we did, and
- 5:23that's the only way that we can win. We have to have big games
- 5:25from Aliyah, big game from Page and then little contributions from everybody, you
- 5:30know, not doesn't have to be a lot from everybody else, but everybody's
- 5:32got to do it. Everybody's got to do a little bit. And Nika
- 5:35making three threes, you know, I told Nico all the time, I
- 5:39said, you notice as well as I do. If they're going to pick
- 5:42somebody not the guard, you're going to be it. Yeah, her and
- 5:45Aubrey on the perimeter too. Yeah. So if you guys make open shots,
- 5:49you know that that changes everything. And now I'll say it to them.
- 5:55I said, look, right now, you have to understand what the
- 5:58defense is trying to do, Like they're not going to guard you, and
- 6:00they're not going to guard you. Why they don't think you can shoot it.
- 6:03Well, if you don't shoot the ball, then they're right. If
- 6:08you keep shooting and missing, then they're right. So the only way you
- 6:12can change their strategy is you got to knock in a couple and then that's
- 6:15going to have to change the way they defend us and the way they defend
- 6:18you. You know. So sometimes you leave a kid open. That's the
- 6:24worst thing you can do in the world. They know, like, I'm
- 6:30open for a reason. They don't think I can shoot. Maybe I can't,
- 6:32you know. So it's the real ahead game with these guys, you
- 6:35know, don't think about it. Yeah, I like dumb players. Participation
- 6:45a little later. I like guys. I like guys who can't think.
- 6:48I don't think, just shoot, just playing. They don't worry. Ever.
- 6:51You think there's ever been a men's basketball coach it's ever had to tell
- 6:55one of their players, I think you should shoot more. Those are words
- 7:01that you would never hear come out of a coach's mouth in men's basketball.
- 7:05I think you should shoot more. I say that every day though. I
- 7:11think you should shoot that shot. Well, it's like Ashlyn Shade, you
- 7:14know, she scores what eighteen hundred points in high school and she's passing the
- 7:16ball. But she must have listened to you, especially against ball steak,
- 7:19because give I like a house of fire. Well, I asked her,
- 7:24in what universe do you think you'll ever lead our team and assists? So
- 7:29stop passing the goddamn ball, right right, I said, you averaged one
- 7:33assist year in high school. Now you came here to be the next siuper
- 7:39Bird. What the hell you're doing here? Right? You're open, you
- 7:42shoot it when you're not, drive it and take your pull up, all
- 7:44right? Morewitchto in a moment as the Wells farg who you kind of women's
- 7:47basketball coaches show continues on lead for that, for this
