Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Chip's Enough from Enough's Enough here in Chicago, Illinois,
- 0:03Speaker 1: in front of my beautiful little 1957 Porsche Speedster with
- 0:07Speaker 1: my good friend Chris Peters.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Hi, Chip. How you got today, brother?
- 0:13Speaker 1: Today's a beautiful day here in Chicago. Good weather in
- 0:17Speaker 1: the 60s. But more importantly, I'm talking to you because
- 0:22Speaker 1: we're getting ready to come to Australia for the old
- 0:25Speaker 1: Are You Pretty Enough tour with Pretty Boy Floyd and
- 0:27Speaker 1: Enough's Enough.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Fantastic. That's your R & D, my friend.
- 0:31Speaker 3: And you are returning very soon, mate, for a run
- 0:34Speaker 3: of shows starting in Melbourne on November 6th before hitting
- 0:37Speaker 3: Sydney the.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Following night and Brisbane the night after. Not far at
- 0:41Speaker 2: all away, mate. Are you packed? Ready to go?
- 0:43Speaker 1: Yeah, band's ready to go. We have a show next week.
- 0:46Speaker 1: We're out with Firehouse out in Oklahoma. And then we'll
- 0:50Speaker 1: jump on the plane and fly for 20 hours to
- 0:53Speaker 1: come see you, brothers and sisters. and share some nice
- 0:57Speaker 1: rock and roll stories. Looking forward to the Carbonero, that's
- 1:00Speaker 1: for sure. I love that out there. And maybe hit
- 1:03Speaker 1: the zoo and maybe drive around on the motorbike for
- 1:06Speaker 1: a while.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Fantastic, man. And I'd actually heard that your fifth member, Mr.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Michael Beasley, isn't going to be coming over with you.
- 1:12Speaker 2: That's a shame.
- 1:14Speaker 1: You know, Michael Beasley, he was out with Glenn Hughes
- 1:17Speaker 1: for a while, and Glenn's been fighting some health issues.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I think he's back in the game again now. So
- 1:24Speaker 1: Beasley won't be joining us here. He'll join us when
- 1:26Speaker 1: we leave Australia and go to Las Vegas for the
- 1:31Speaker 1: 50th anniversary of Kiss Locked and Landed, which is a
- 1:35Speaker 1: three-day event, November 12th through the 15th in the Virgin
- 1:39Speaker 1: Hotel in Sin City with Slaughter, Night Ranger, Faster Pussycat,
- 1:48Speaker 1: Bisto Blanco. Ace Frehley's band. It's a potpourri of great
- 1:52Speaker 1: bands that are going to be on that bill. But
- 1:55Speaker 1: more importantly, right now, Australia, where MR Productions is bringing
- 1:59Speaker 1: us over there. I can't believe that we're actually coming
- 2:01Speaker 1: back to Australia. This will be the third time in
- 2:04Speaker 1: like five years. That's incredible.
- 2:06Speaker 3: It will, but it is the first time, I believe,
- 2:09Speaker 3: since about 2023, mate.
- 2:10Speaker 2: So what's changed with Enough's Enough since we saw you last?
- 2:14Speaker 1: It's a little bit different of a lineup. I have
- 2:17Speaker 1: Brent Arsement from... White Lion, Mike Tramp's White Lion playing drums.
- 2:22Speaker 1: He's been with us for a few years now. Fabulous,
- 2:24Speaker 1: fabulous drummer. He loves Australia. He's toured out there before,
- 2:27Speaker 1: so he's excited about, he loves the Aussies, he says.
- 2:30Speaker 1: And I have Luis Kalil, fabulous guitar player from Red
- 2:37Speaker 1: Devil Vortex playing guitar with us. So along that, and
- 2:41Speaker 1: rounded out by Jason Camino, formerly of the Nelsons. So
- 2:46Speaker 1: it's a strong, solid rock band. And we're coming out
- 2:49Speaker 1: and bringing all the songs with us, my friend. There's
- 2:51Speaker 1: quite a few. If we could play for four hours,
- 2:53Speaker 1: we would do it. But evidently, there's some noise regulations
- 2:58Speaker 1: out in Australia. So we'll give you a good hour
- 3:00Speaker 1: and a half, two-hour show supporting all the records, okay?
- 3:04Speaker 2: Fantastic, mate.
- 3:05Speaker 3: And as you said before, you're bringing your brothers in
- 3:08Speaker 3: sleaze in Pretty Boy Floyd now.
- 3:10Speaker 2: That's like a touring match made in heaven, mate. What
- 3:13Speaker 2: could go wrong?
- 3:15Speaker 4: Well, those guys bring 17 bottles of.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Jack Daniels and 20 bottles of tequila with them. It's
- 3:21Speaker 1: going to be an interesting tour, that's for sure. If
- 3:24Speaker 1: they're careful with the Loudmouth Soup, it's going to be
- 3:26Speaker 1: a fabulous little run. They'll be celebrating, I think, their
- 3:31Speaker 1: 35th year together. So Stevie and the boys, I was
- 3:34Speaker 1: just seeing them recently. We did a tour together with
- 3:37Speaker 1: Trickster months ago. The band sounds great. And they love
- 3:43Speaker 1: Australia as well. So it's nice to see a couple
- 3:46Speaker 1: of American bands getting a chance to go across into
- 3:49Speaker 1: your country and play some rock shows. And I only
- 3:52Speaker 1: wish I could stay for a week or two because, man,
- 3:54Speaker 1: I love your shrimp.
- 3:55Speaker 4: I love your wine. I love the action that's out
- 3:57Speaker 4: in that country.
- 3:58Speaker 1: And we will be coming in clean, okay?
- 4:02Speaker 4: We're good boys right now.
- 4:04Speaker 1: It's not like the old days where we show some–
- 4:07Speaker 1: our promiscuity follows us everywhere.
- 4:10Speaker 4: But no substance abuse. We're all clean. It's all good.
- 4:14Speaker 1: We're there to celebrate and play our catalog of enough
- 4:17Speaker 1: snuff hits.
- 4:19Speaker 3: In that case, we're going to have to live on
- 4:21Speaker 3: naughty memories from the past, bro. But you and Pretty
- 4:24Speaker 3: Boy Floyd would have spent some time together on the road.
- 4:26Speaker 3: So what's the best tour story you can remember or
- 4:29Speaker 3: you can tell us without getting locked up?
- 4:31Speaker 1: Well, I do remember recently, say last year or a
- 4:36Speaker 1: year before that, we did a little run with Pretty
- 4:37Speaker 1: Boy Floyd. And Steve found himself with just a little
- 4:41Speaker 1: bit too much loudmouth soup. And we had to carry
- 4:45Speaker 1: him into his hotel room. And then the cops showed
- 4:47Speaker 1: up there, too. They wanted to know what was going on,
- 4:49Speaker 1: why we were carrying a grown man into the hotel room.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And we let him know that he's been real tired.
- 4:54Speaker 1: It's been a long, illustrious tour. And he had to
- 4:56Speaker 1: get his rest. And the cops winked and they split
- 4:58Speaker 1: and let us go.
- 4:58Speaker 4: That was good. No problems there. But I know that
- 5:02Speaker 4: he has a.
- 5:03Speaker 1: a propensity to get in trouble at any single moment
- 5:05Speaker 1: when he's around a lot of women. And at these shows,
- 5:07Speaker 1: I'm sure they're going to be sold out and jam-packed
- 5:11Speaker 1: full of action. So he'll have his hands full out there,
- 5:15Speaker 1: but they're bringing their show and they show up every
- 5:17Speaker 1: night and they got the look of the world.
- 5:19Speaker 4: It's look at me. That's for sure. They wear more
- 5:22Speaker 4: makeup and.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Lipstick than my sister and my wife. So I think that's,
- 5:29Speaker 1: We'll show it when you get to the shows and
- 5:32Speaker 1: get a chance to see what we're going to bring
- 5:34Speaker 1: to the party.
- 5:36Speaker 4: We're not coming empty-handed.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Yeah, nice, man, nice.
- 5:39Speaker 3: And the good folks over at X Music are supplying
- 5:41Speaker 3: the local talent from their roster of bands, including Carly Jewel,
- 5:45Speaker 3: Wicked Things, there's Runt, Talent Made Rejects, Snakebite Whiskey, and more.
- 5:48Speaker 3: I know you like a bit of a party yourself, Chip,
- 5:51Speaker 3: so which ones out of the local supports have you
- 5:54Speaker 3: already earmarked to take under your wing?
- 5:57Speaker 1: I'm not familiar with a lot of the bands that
- 6:00Speaker 1: are over in Australia, although I've heard their names before.
- 6:02Speaker 1: But when I'm on tour, last time I was in Australia,
- 6:06Speaker 1: me and the guys in Faster Pussy, Danny and Tammy
- 6:10Speaker 1: and Chad, we went bar hopping. I went to go
- 6:12Speaker 1: see some local acts. There's some really good groups out there.
- 6:15Speaker 1: But I spent most of my time out there watching.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I went and seen the Pixies. They were really good,
- 6:21Speaker 1: by the way. And then I know when I was
- 6:23Speaker 1: out there with Kip Winger, we scrounged around and we
- 6:26Speaker 1: looked around for some difference. I went to the zoo
- 6:28Speaker 1: and we also had some fun over at the ice
- 6:30Speaker 1: cream shop. It doesn't sound like a rock and roll
- 6:32Speaker 1: band right there, but then I remember going to Amsterdam
- 6:34Speaker 1: years ago in the afternoon, me walking through the streets
- 6:37Speaker 1: with Sebastian Bach and who do I see in the
- 6:39Speaker 1: ice cream shop was anthrax eating banana splits.
- 6:42Speaker 4: So old habits are hard to break.
- 6:45Speaker 3: That's a good one for all the autograph hunters out there.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Just hang around the local ice cream parlor and you
- 6:50Speaker 2: might see the rock stars.
- 6:53Speaker 4: Well, evidently that's the way it is. A lot of
- 6:57Speaker 4: us are carrying a sweet tooth.
- 6:59Speaker 1: But I love coming to your country for one reason,
- 7:02Speaker 1: the people. There's a wonderful audience out there. Great shout-out
- 7:08Speaker 1: to Peter Hoffman and his team for putting together this tour.
- 7:11Speaker 1: It's a different agency for us. Artists Worldwide booked us
- 7:16Speaker 1: out there, and I'm surprised that we had a chance
- 7:19Speaker 1: to actually come back so soon because usually you play–
- 7:21Speaker 1: In Australia, you don't come back for five, ten years,
- 7:24Speaker 1: so it's nice to be able to come back again,
- 7:26Speaker 1: play all the shows, you know, focused with a great band,
- 7:31Speaker 1: and more importantly, bringing out these songs to.
- 7:34Speaker 4: You, okay?
- 7:35Speaker 1: All the hits from back in the late 80s all
- 7:37Speaker 1: the way through our career. You know, we'll be showcasing
- 7:40Speaker 1: some stuff off the new record, Extra Cherries. We'll be
- 7:43Speaker 1: playing stuff off our newest album that just came out
- 7:45Speaker 1: last week called Live at the Whiskey A Go-Go. So
- 7:49Speaker 1: you'll get New Thing, Baby Loves You, Fly, Michelle, Love Train,
- 7:52Speaker 1: Indian Angel, mixed in with some of those Beatles songs.
- 7:55Speaker 4: From our Hard Rock Night record. It's a real potpourri
- 7:58Speaker 4: of songs.
- 7:59Speaker 1: And I hope everybody's anticipating a good show because we're
- 8:03Speaker 1: going to come out and kick some ass.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Very nice, man.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Just say someone's coming along for Pretty Boy Floyd or
- 8:10Speaker 3: one of the other bands and they don't know too
- 8:11Speaker 3: much about Enough's Enough. What three songs of yours should
- 8:14Speaker 3: they listen to to get to know the band a
- 8:16Speaker 3: bit better?
- 8:18Speaker 1: Any of them, any of them that we play in
- 8:20Speaker 1: the set there, you're going to like them. It's, it's, listen,
- 8:23Speaker 1: how much can you push it? So there's a lot
- 8:25Speaker 1: of people that do know about Enough's Enough too in Australia.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I think if you just focus on the MTV stuff,
- 8:30Speaker 1: you're going to see and hear some, some classic songs
- 8:35Speaker 1: in the set with the fly high a new thing
- 8:37Speaker 1: and baby loves you. But, you know, we're doing heavy
- 8:39Speaker 1: metal in the set off our Extra Cherries record. It's
- 8:42Speaker 1: a solid rock track right there. Love Train Off the
- 8:45Speaker 1: Animals of Human Intelligence is a good one. Taking a Ride,
- 8:47Speaker 1: we'll have that in the set as well. You know,
- 8:50Speaker 1: Eleanor Rigby will probably be playing every single night. We'll
- 8:52Speaker 1: do Live and Let Die.
- 8:54Speaker 4: We'll mix it up.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I want to keep some of the surprises for you.
- 8:56Speaker 1: But for any people that are curious, just check out
- 8:59Speaker 1: the Enough's Enough page, enuff.com, or go to YouTube.com. Or Spotify.
- 9:06Speaker 1: There's almost 300 songs on there of Enough's Enough. And
- 9:09Speaker 1: pick any one of them out there. And that's a
- 9:11Speaker 1: pretty good representation of what we're all about.
- 9:15Speaker 2: You, of course, have been with Enough's Enough since the
- 9:17Speaker 2: beginning back in the 80s, mate.
- 9:18Speaker 3: So looking back then, what was the musical climate like
- 9:21Speaker 3: that gave birth to Enough's Enough?
- 9:23Speaker 2: And where did you guys fit in back then?
- 9:26Speaker 1: Well, the musical climate was killer back then. Remember, we
- 9:28Speaker 1: had MTV, the music channel, which was great, and VH1.
- 9:32Speaker 1: And we had a David Letterman and all the TV
- 9:33Speaker 1: shows too, that were embraced hard rock and heavy metal. Uh,
- 9:37Speaker 1: but the scene when I came out was killer because,
- 9:39Speaker 1: you know, of course we had the poisons and the
- 9:42Speaker 1: Motley Crue's and the cheap tricks in there, but, uh,
- 9:45Speaker 1: we also had some underground bands. I think are fabulous.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Like King's X that we tour around with those cats.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I love them beyond belief. And, uh, a lot of
- 9:53Speaker 1: stuff that was, uh, that got overlooked. I think, you know,
- 9:56Speaker 1: candle box, another great band that was out back in
- 9:58Speaker 1: those days that, uh, still out there touring it's funny
- 10:01Speaker 1: a lot of the bands that were playing with back
- 10:04Speaker 1: in the late 80s and early 90s are still together
- 10:06Speaker 1: and touring around the country and bringing and playing in
- 10:09Speaker 1: arenas and big places so we jump on some of
- 10:12Speaker 1: those bills we get on a lot of those festivals Rock, Oklahoma,
- 10:15Speaker 1: etc we're lucky enough to get called once in a
- 10:18Speaker 1: while for those big gigs The Rock Island Fest was great,
- 10:22Speaker 1: playing with Cinderella and Stone Temple Pilots. There's so many
- 10:26Speaker 1: good bands that are out there. And the new scene
- 10:28Speaker 1: right now is happening too. You got Geese and you
- 10:30Speaker 1: got Lemon Twigs. I think they're fabulous. And what is that?
- 10:35Speaker 1: The band Feel. They sound like a baby Led Zeppelin.
- 10:39Speaker 1: There's a lot of good stuff that's coming out right now.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I love Dirty Honey. I love Rival Sons. A lot
- 10:45Speaker 1: of cats out there carrying the flag right now. So
- 10:49Speaker 1: For the other bands that are taking a little break
- 10:51Speaker 1: or are going to retire, there's still a bunch of
- 10:53Speaker 1: us out there that still want to go out and
- 10:55Speaker 1: play the shows and reach the fans. It's not about
- 10:58Speaker 1: the money anymore because the money's not really there. Today, nowadays,
- 11:02Speaker 1: for bands, it's the direct-to-consumer. It's too much product, not
- 11:06Speaker 1: enough demand. I think bands have to go out and
- 11:09Speaker 1: tour right now. You're not going to see any fazools from...
- 11:13Speaker 1: It's just sitting at home after you make a record.
- 11:15Speaker 1: You got to go out and bring the show to
- 11:17Speaker 1: the road and take it to the people. And that's
- 11:19Speaker 1: what Enough's Enough has always done. And as long as
- 11:21Speaker 1: we're healthy, we'll continue to tour around the country and
- 11:24Speaker 1: play shows.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Yeah, fuck yeah, brother.
- 11:26Speaker 3: And you mentioned this before, man, but Enough's Enough recently
- 11:29Speaker 3: dropped a new album, Live at the Whiskey at Go-Go.
- 11:32Speaker 3: So tell us about that and why now is the
- 11:35Speaker 3: right time for you to put out a live record.
- 11:38Speaker 1: We're with Cleopatra Records and their president, Brian Pereira, put
- 11:42Speaker 1: out extra cherries in August of last year.
- 11:46Speaker 4: And it did really well for us.
- 11:47Speaker 1: In fact, it's in a second pressing right now, which
- 11:49Speaker 1: is very rare for any bands out there. But we
- 11:52Speaker 1: go out and we tour a lot and we sell
- 11:53Speaker 1: records at the shows. And I see a lot of
- 11:56Speaker 1: the bands doing that too. So it's not like we've
- 12:00Speaker 1: come up with a new game plan. We're just following
- 12:02Speaker 1: the template that's going on right now. But the label
- 12:05Speaker 1: felt that we should hold back on a live record
- 12:07Speaker 1: a little while before we put it out. So we
- 12:10Speaker 1: waited a year and we put it out live at
- 12:13Speaker 1: the Whiskey A Go-Go. It was recorded like three and
- 12:15Speaker 1: a half years ago on a Thursday night in lovely
- 12:18Speaker 1: Los Angeles.
- 12:19Speaker 4: And some good players on there too.
- 12:22Speaker 1: The band, obviously, it was an enough's enough show, but
- 12:25Speaker 1: we called up some of our constituents during the performance
- 12:29Speaker 1: that night. And everybody showed up there, by the way,
- 12:32Speaker 1: you know, the Catching Cats with Cinderella and their muse
- 12:35Speaker 1: and Faster Pussycat. And I called up a Sam Bam
- 12:40Speaker 1: from Godsmackie came up and played on Fly. Michelle Anu
- 12:42Speaker 1: thing along with Chad Stewart from Faster Pussycat and Patrick
- 12:46Speaker 1: Stone from Hairball. They all came up and played with
- 12:50Speaker 1: us on that record. It just so happens we were
- 12:52Speaker 1: recording that night. So feature some guest artists on that
- 12:56Speaker 1: live record. And it's a feather in our cap. Not
- 12:59Speaker 1: many bands get a chance to put a record out
- 13:01Speaker 1: live at the Whiskey A Go-Go.
- 13:03Speaker 4: And the ones they have are huge.
- 13:05Speaker 1: So we wanted to pay respect to not only a
- 13:07Speaker 1: place that we helped cut our teeth on, but show
- 13:10Speaker 1: the band and those songs in the right light. And
- 13:13Speaker 1: I think it's a solid rock and roll record.
- 13:17Speaker 3: I think what's important there too, mate, is as good
- 13:19Speaker 3: as your albums are, enough's enough for a fantastic live band.
- 13:23Speaker 3: So for someone to be able to capture that before
- 13:26Speaker 3: they actually see you play it, it's like lightning in.
- 13:29Speaker 2: A bottle, isn't it?
- 13:32Speaker 1: Yeah, with that question you asked me earlier, what three
- 13:34Speaker 1: songs should anybody listen to if they haven't heard of
- 13:36Speaker 1: Enough's Enough? Go get the live at the Whiskey A
- 13:39Speaker 1: Go Go on Cleopatra Records. There's a record right there.
- 13:41Speaker 1: You'll hear what the band sounds like live.
- 13:44Speaker 3: People in Australia have heard heaps about the Whiskey A
- 13:47Speaker 3: Go Go, mate, but unfortunately not a lot of us
- 13:49Speaker 3: have been there.
- 13:50Speaker 2: So is it as good of a venue as what
- 13:52Speaker 2: everyone makes it out to be?
- 13:55Speaker 4: It certainly is. It's a historical place, yes.
- 13:58Speaker 1: A lot of, a lot of musicians have shared that stage,
- 14:01Speaker 1: obviously in the early days, the Doors and Led Zeppelin
- 14:03Speaker 1: playing there. And then of course, the bands I just
- 14:07Speaker 1: mentioned to you, Guns and Roses, LA Guns, Faster Pussycat, Winger.
- 14:13Speaker 1: We've all shared that stage together. So it's, it's a
- 14:16Speaker 1: wonderful venue. It only holds about 800 people. I've seen
- 14:19Speaker 1: Kiss play there. They're fantastic. I was just recently, Slash
- 14:22Speaker 1: was there a couple of years ago, actually did a
- 14:24Speaker 1: couple of shows with Miles Kennedy Conspirators.
- 14:27Speaker 4: They were fabulous.
- 14:28Speaker 1: So, you know, there's a bridge truck full of bands
- 14:31Speaker 1: that have shared that stage. Great production there. Good people
- 14:35Speaker 1: that run it. And it's just a nice feather in
- 14:38Speaker 1: our cap to say, yeah, we've, we cut our teeth
- 14:40Speaker 1: at the Whiskey A Go-Go. Now we have a live
- 14:43Speaker 1: record that's in perpetuity in the world where everybody can
- 14:46Speaker 1: get it and listen to it around the country.
- 14:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Before I let you go, Chip, I've got a new
- 14:51Speaker 3: segment that I've started. I, I want to ask you,
- 14:54Speaker 3: can you remember the very first song you ever jammed
- 14:56Speaker 3: out to on air bass or sung in the shower?
- 14:59Speaker 2: And what was it?
- 15:02Speaker 1: Not really singing in the shower unless it's enough snuff songs.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I remember Steven Tyler saying that's how he finds his
- 15:07Speaker 1: pipes every single night before Aerosmith goes on stage. He's
- 15:10Speaker 1: sings in the shower and he goes, Oh shit, I
- 15:12Speaker 1: don't have any voice. I don't have a voice today.
- 15:14Speaker 1: What am I going to do? And then all of
- 15:16Speaker 1: a sudden it just happens and you get in front
- 15:18Speaker 1: of the people and everything opens up and you're able
- 15:20Speaker 1: to perform. But maybe Sweet Hitchhiker by Creedence Clearwater Revival
- 15:26Speaker 1: back in the early days. That was one of the
- 15:28Speaker 1: first ones that really tripped my trigger and a big
- 15:31Speaker 1: fan of that. And then I ended up touring with
- 15:32Speaker 1: those cats over in Germany back in 2012 and doing
- 15:36Speaker 1: a month of shows out there in a small little
- 15:38Speaker 1: tour bus and Good memories there. Learning those songs, it
- 15:41Speaker 1: was pretty easy, but playing 30 songs a set, that's challenging.
