Transcript
- 0:00Music.
- 0:58I am a vintage, mass-marketed children's toy from the 80s, standing right in
- 1:05front of you, holding a very sharp scalpel.
- 1:10I'm turning human again? If I don't get out of this body soon, I'm screwed.
- 1:15You little shit! Do you know what you've done?
- 1:19Hi, I'm Chucky, and I'm your friend to the end. I like a little killing now
- 1:25and then. What's wrong with that?
- 1:25Music.
- 1:44Hey everybody, guess what? It's Chucky time.
- 1:48That's right. We're going to continue our little Chucky retrospective with the
- 1:53seat of Chucky here at Citizen Frame.
- 1:56Where can we fuck me I
- 1:59don't even want to get to this I mean talk
- 2:02about a fall from grace this is classy stuff this
- 2:06is not classy pieces of shit so now I can't fault Don Machini for going this
- 2:13story I can he created the piece of shit beforehand the brighter Chucky but
- 2:18I can understand why he kept that direction because of the popularity of the brighter Chucky.
- 2:23But this one tank badly and
- 2:27i think the reason that is people realized that
- 2:30the bride chucky was not as
- 2:33good as they thought and i do think replay value
- 2:36it wore out as welcome it had
- 2:39it was funny maybe for the first time you see it and you're
- 2:42like your eyes and your jaws dropped you're like what the fuck are
- 2:45we watching but then once the dust settles and you
- 2:47see it again i think people have caught on this is
- 2:50terrible and by the time by time
- 2:53that happened the seat of chucky was produced because thankfully
- 2:58because of these two horrible films we
- 3:02go back to a more grounded chucky i think as
- 3:05well when this came out seat of chucky it was
- 3:09towards the end of that sort of meta self-referential horror
- 3:13slicer film craze that sort of you
- 3:16know west craven's new nightmare and scream and all
- 3:19and you know even arguably jason x sort
- 3:22of hit home with and i think i'm right
- 3:25at chucky i must say as well but i think people were getting a bit sick of it
- 3:30by this point and even the reviews of it you know through watching the documentary
- 3:36about the chucky films they basically a lot of the reviews hit on this as well
- 3:40that oh it's oh i roll it's another self-referential meta horror film.
- 3:46Yeah, that could be a two, or I'm going to go with it. The Brian Chucky was
- 3:49shit and people caught on.
- 3:53You go ahead with your meta thing. Yeah. Well, I mean, whatever,
- 3:57but you know, I think, I think there's several reasons involved,
- 4:00you know, plus the whole torture porn sort of thing was starting to become a
- 4:04bit of a craze within horror at the time. Oh yeah.
- 4:07Horror was wanting to go back to be more serious.
- 4:09Yeah. So yeah, the Saw franchise, Hostel franchise, you have the Eli Roth,
- 4:15The James Wands are starting to kick in high gear and the Blumhouse.
- 4:21The Evil Dead remake as well.
- 4:22Yeah. There was a load of remakes coming out at that time as well.
- 4:25The Hells Have Eyes and stuff.
- 4:27Yeah, the Texas Chainsaw, Friday the 13th. Yeah. You had them all and people
- 4:31wanted the more dark horror again and gritty and violent. And thank God.
- 4:38Yeah, so Dom and Sheen is back for this one. He's writing and directing.
- 4:43We got pretty much the core cast. Jennifer Tilly's back playing Tiffany and
- 4:47of course playing herself now we got Brad Dorff as Chuck Billy Boyd as the voice
- 4:52of Glenna Glenda you might know him from the Lord of the Rings films we got
- 4:56Redman playing Redman which is actually kind of funny John Waters playing Pete Peters,
- 5:01and then you got a bunch of cameos here and there,
- 5:05no big deal and you got Jason Fleming in the beginning who I actually like to
- 5:08see because I do like Jason Fleming,
- 5:10but he says just like Jenny Agutter He said it was the worst experience He actually
- 5:15has asked That this be removed from his resume,
- 5:21Apparently He didn't According to Don Mancini,
- 5:26Jason Fleming Was a bit of an asshole On the set,
- 5:31Maybe he read the script But you know what he signed up for it And so what His
- 5:35role is basically a cameo I think he needs to get over himself It's really not that bad You know,
- 5:42Yeah, I guess there's two sides to every story. Yeah. We don't know what happened on set.
- 5:47But, you know, I mean, the office says anything about Tom Holland,
- 5:51so we just never know what happened.
- 5:53Yeah. You know, he says, she said, well, we cost $12 million.
- 5:58It cut mass $10 million from the original budget that was to the bride.
- 6:02So we had $12 million with bride was $25. This made $24 million worldwide,
- 6:06which is nothing compared to what the other Chunkies have made.
- 6:10It's no longer universal. Universal dumped it to its smaller side company,
- 6:16I think it's Rogue Pictures,
- 6:19and this is the first one of the Child's Place that has no good guy doll voice,
- 6:25and right there you lost me, I need my good guy hello,
- 6:30Chucky, friend to the end, we won't get that it also,
- 6:35is the first in the series with no reference whatsoever to Andy Barclay,
- 6:40who does actually come back into the series, but there's no reference here at all to Andy Barclay.
- 6:46Yeah. Yeah.
- 6:49Talk to me here. The opening sequence. Oh, that's very classy, you know.
- 6:56Now, the opening sequence is POV.
- 7:03Obviously, it's of Glenn.
- 7:06And he has been given over to English family.
- 7:10That's why he has an English accent, people. Because he was found in the cemetery
- 7:15where we lost, when he was eaten with cop's head.
- 7:19And so somebody found him, and now he's over in England being fostered, I guess you can say.
- 7:24But in reality, this film is actually a UK and Romanian co-production,
- 7:31hence all the English actors and English accents.
- 7:35But yes, for the sake of the story, he's been adopted. But Yeah.
- 7:40And so they see him for the first time. It's through a POV. Like I said,
- 7:44you're just seeing it through Glenn's eyes, this whole scene.
- 7:48And they're kind of being very cruel to him. I'm going to be honest with you.
- 7:52I'm going to say something here. I kind of like this beginning.
- 7:57I like the whole POV shot. It was an incredible nice little shot where you see
- 8:02the father gets, well, the step, whatever he is, the foster parent,
- 8:06getting stabbed, and he falls over the balcony. We follow with him. Yes.
- 8:11And then whoever stabbed him, which we know at this point is Glenn.
- 8:16Is running up the stairs.
- 8:17So we see him attack Glenn, again, point of view, fall over the balcony with
- 8:23him as his body splats on the ground, blood everywhere.
- 8:27He gets off his body and runs upstairs for another attack, which would be the
- 8:33shower scene. A little nod to Psycho.
- 8:36And it is very funny because he's so tiny.
- 8:40When he tries to stab her, he drops the knife and it's too slippery for him to grab.
- 8:44You see his little hand trying to grab the knife in the slippery bathtub,
- 8:48but she ends up just losing her balance and breaking her neck.
- 8:51I would say that this opening scene, there's a lot of homages to not just Hitchcock
- 8:57and Psycho, but also De Palma and even Carpenter's Halloween as well.
- 9:02Now I'm not comparing Seed of Chucky to these films, but there is homages.
- 9:06I wouldn't go Halloween, as much as you think, but I can see De Palma in there.
- 9:13It's also a dream sequence and the first Chucky film to have full frontal female
- 9:19nudity. In fact, any sort of nudity.
- 9:22No, there's nudity in the last one. Is there?
- 9:25I don't think there is you do you see you see
- 9:28tiffany's tit when she's a doll no no this
- 9:30is in this one where chucky's cracking one off to an
- 9:34issue of fangoria and she put her cup down to give something to go on yeah but
- 9:38you see her breasts in the last one i've been at all but but not fully i don't
- 9:43think you see her arse no no you see her breast in the last one the the fact
- 9:50you're trying to read off is.
- 9:54Actual nudity.
- 9:56Real tits. Well, it was kind of erotic. They could either be fake tits or they
- 10:02could be Tiffany's tits.
- 10:04You never know one of these Hollywood actresses these days. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:08Well, this is it. But it's also a dream sequence because he's actually adopted
- 10:12by the ventriloquist at the Glastonbury Ventriloquist Festival, whatever that is.
- 10:19Yeah. I don't get this whole ventriloquist thing.
- 10:24And because he's freaky looking, he uses him as ventriloquist,
- 10:29but obviously he knows he can talk.
- 10:31So he's not really a ventriloquist.
- 10:33Yeah. Because he knows Glenn can talk.
- 10:36To be honest, I was more irritated by the little details, like the made in Japan
- 10:41stamp, which doesn't make any sense. I like that. The Chuckie Dolls were made in Chicago.
- 10:46It doesn't make sense in terms of the other story. Maybe the parts were made
- 10:51in Japan I suppose you could run with that But the Chucky dolls were manufactured in Chicago Not Japan.
- 10:57Yeah, but yeah, maybe. It's a better retconning, to be honest.
- 11:03Well, there you go. You just ruined the entire opening sequence for me.
- 11:07So I was actually about to give it a pass, but you fucked it.
- 11:10Way to go. I get that it's thrown in there for a joke, but somebody who's a
- 11:15nitpicker like myself will automatically... It's not.
- 11:18What they're playing off, I kind of like it because what they're saying is made
- 11:23of Japan, and then when he sees Chucky, Chucky has the same,
- 11:27it's kind of like a birthmark. Yes, I know.
- 11:30And I can kind of go with that. As stupid and fucking horrible this film is,
- 11:36I can actually let that one slide. I will go with it.
- 11:40Yeah. It did niggle me. The rest of it was fine, though. So it was.
- 11:44In fact, that actually makes sense. It's amazing. The one part that's kind of
- 11:48clever, the Made in Japan thing, you don't like the rest of this shit.
- 11:53You're going to have a hard-on for it. I have.
- 11:56I don't get it, the one kind of smart part of it you don't like,
- 12:02but the rest is, oh, this is kind of gold.
- 12:04I have an appreciation for this in terms of, I have an appreciation for what it's trying to do. Yes.
- 12:12Serious, I'm not messing about here. It doesn't pull it off,
- 12:16and it is completely bad shit.
- 12:18No doubt about it. You know who did this better?
- 12:22Screen free.
- 12:23Scream 3 is probably the weakest in the Scream series, and I'm a Scream fan.
- 12:28No, we talked about this. You never said that. You and I both agreed Scream
- 12:323 was actually quite good.
- 12:33It certainly has its moments, and I do still like it as part of the series overall,
- 12:38but in terms of the rest of the films in the series, I think it's probably the weakest.
- 12:42Listen to our respect. Listen back to it.
- 12:46Because I know what I said about Scream 3. We thought the outcome of Scream
- 12:503 was better, had a better ending and subbed it all up better and it's actually
- 12:55a little darker tone to it.
- 12:57We did like some elements of it, yes, but the entire Scream franchise,
- 13:00you did not. You picked the last one. Right. Well, I mean.
- 13:05My point is that Scream 3 is far, I mean, if you're going to fucking sit there
- 13:10and say this is better than Scream 3, go fuck yourself.
- 13:13I mean, seriously, fucking grow up. But Scream 3, the problem is the problem
- 13:17with your argument is, no, listen to me, the problem with your argument is that
- 13:22Scream 3 is not an homage to Tri-Cinema where this is? Actually it kind of is.
- 13:29Actually Scream 3, yes it is. What movie did you watch?
- 13:33You have a creature feature Roger Corman kind of producer, which is played by Lance Hendrickson.
- 13:38And you've got, of course, what do you mean? But the story.
- 13:43This film, this film takes place on a set based on the real life actions of
- 13:49Tiffany and Chucky the Dolls.
- 13:50That's what this film is about just like what Scream 3 is which takes place
- 13:54on the set of when Scream happened there are similarities but this is more an
- 13:59actual direct homage to the tri-cinema like John Waters who's in it no coincidence
- 14:05and also Ed Wood obviously with the Glenn Glenda thing you're,
- 14:10I know but you're blinded because they're cheating by giving you little glimpses you know,
- 14:19old B cinema and you're like oh that's so clever that's
- 14:22so clever clever I'm not saying it's far
- 14:25from clever I mean you have Chucky basically wanking into
- 14:28a fucking cup here over an issue of Fangoria it's
- 14:31I don't think it's clever but I think you know what it is it's down to I enjoy
- 14:36silly like with Bride of Chucky I do have an enjoyment and affinity with stupid
- 14:43campy humor you know I can't help it you know I just like daft humour and this.
- 14:51Yeah let's just move on quick 14 minutes in fuck me by the way who's Redman
- 14:57I'd never heard of Redman outside of this I know he is but outside of this film
- 15:02I'd never really heard of him he came and went yeah,
- 15:06just like this fucking film,
- 15:10and Chucky after page 2 in Vangoria,
- 15:15do you have to admit Billy Boyd's good as the voice of Glamour Glamour,
- 15:20don't tell me I have to admit anything it's terrible this movie's terrible there's
- 15:25some funny lines I'm not going to sit there and say that I do like,
- 15:30the whole opening sequence with Jason Fleming and Santa him getting his throat
- 15:34cut he doesn't want to be there which is ironic because he didn't want to be
- 15:38there and there's a nice shot of interaction between Tiffany and Chucky.
- 15:45And then you have Jennifer we find out is playing herself is playing Tiffany.
- 15:51Which she happens just to look just like her who knew but there's some funny
- 15:55lines that Jennifer has probably the best lines in the film she's a good sport,
- 16:00because she is a good sport she makes fun of herself she plays on her tits eyes,
- 16:06but it is funny she goes how come I can't get any good parts I'm an Oscar nominee
- 16:11and now I'm fucking a puppet.
- 16:13That's funny. Oh yeah. Yeah. She's trying to get,
- 16:17She's trying to get the job. And anyone knows Jennifer Tilly from some of her
- 16:22racy films she's done, like Bound is a perfect example.
- 16:24And she's trying to get the role to play the Virgin Mary. Yeah.
- 16:28Directed by Redman, who is a vulgar rapper.
- 16:32Yeah. Although, and she's up for it. And she, I mean, like some of the stuff
- 16:36that essentially playing a version of herself, it's not very flattering towards her.
- 16:41And you know what? Good on her. This was back 20 years ago When Hollywood still
- 16:45had a sense of humour And was quite edgy still And good on her,
- 16:49you know what I mean She's up for it And she is the star She's top build here
- 16:55She deserves to be I love how you say she's top build,
- 17:01With who else?
- 17:03With No, no, no Reddorf, he's a voice Reddorf Dude, do you understand what you're
- 17:12going to do? She's the only one in this. Yes, I know.
- 17:15Top build, really? You're going to give her credit for that.
- 17:18She's the star of it. Yes, it's a crazy, crazy over-the-top build.
- 17:23Like it's fucking top build.
- 17:26Jesus Christ. So I don't get it. Why was the Vantrilochist trying to turn.
- 17:34Glenn into a killer? It wasn't him that was doing it.
- 17:38He was just having bad dreams because of his Chucky and basically DNA.
- 17:44No, no, no, no, no. Did you watch the film?
- 17:47He has a dream, the one I was talking about when he kills a woman in the shower and the balcony scene.
- 17:52Best shot of the whole film, that opening sequence. Yes, it's a dream,
- 17:57but he finds out that his friend Twilichrist picked him up at the cemetery,
- 18:01brought him to England, and he's part of his friend Twilichrist freak show act. Yeah.
- 18:05So the Twilichrist throws him a mouse and he's trying to teach him to kill the
- 18:10mouse, but he said he wants to play with it you know, cuddle with it so why
- 18:15is the Bancholic just trying to teach him to be a killer?
- 18:17My impression with that scene was that he was feeding them rats and mice,
- 18:22he was treating them so lowly, not that he was actually basically,
- 18:25there's your food it's a reference to the elephant man, the treatment of the
- 18:29freaks in that, I think I mean, it could be wrong,
- 18:32you know what I mean, with Michael Elfick you know, the way he treats the elephant
- 18:37man and the other freaks so terribly and then he sees.
- 18:42Chucky and Tiffany in the paper, the movie's being made about them.
- 18:45Yes. So he wants to head to California. To Hollywood. Yeah.
- 18:49Fucking hell. This is terrible. This is terrible.
- 18:54Terrible. And Britney Spears is hanging about. And also, I would say...
- 18:59That's not Britney Spears, by the way. I know it's not. It's a lookalike.
- 19:01But Hannah Spirit plays Joan, the assistant to Jennifer Tilly.
- 19:06And Hannah Spirit, UK listeners will know her As basically Hannah Spirit From
- 19:12S Club 7 The bubblegum pop band From about 20 years ago,
- 19:17So you go, wow, and she didn't get top billing? She's my third?
- 19:22No, I mean, Jennifer, obviously.
- 19:25Fuck me. That is terrible.
- 19:29Oh, wow. I do like when Glenn shows up and we're having a discussion with Chucky and Tiffany.
- 19:37And Chucky's like, he's not my fucking kid.
- 19:40He goes, it looks like he fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:47I felt sorry for Glenn. Poor Glenn or Glenda.
- 19:52I mean, this is touching stuff.
- 19:56So it is. I'm going to put the subplot with the shofar to Jennifer Tilly.
- 20:01That's pretty powerful stuff. Oh, Jesus. They're in love with each other,
- 20:05but she has to hide the love. What the fuck?
- 20:08I do like Tony Gardner. I do like the puppeteer, who's puppeteering most of
- 20:12the Chuckies, Tony Gardner.
- 20:14Yes. And his death was pretty good because he gets cut off. And I can't believe they got away with this.
- 20:21So as... I can't believe I'm laughing at this. See, you're laughing. You enjoyed it?
- 20:26When they cut off his head and blood's flying all over them.
- 20:30Yeah. They're showering in his blood. Do you know what theme they're playing?
- 20:34I'm not too sure. Go ahead. No, they play loosely on the theme.
- 20:38But any Star Wars fan, any Star Wars fan would hear it. They're playing the
- 20:44Han and Lea love theme. Right.
- 20:47Right. I did my set, I must admit. Yeah. And then you got Glenn peeing again. Yes. Glenn.
- 20:54So Glenn pees when he sees death. Because he's scurried.
- 20:59And I love when he's peeing. So they see him peeing after they killed Tony Gardner.
- 21:05And he pulls down his kid's pants and there's no penis. So what does he pee from?
- 21:12What does he pee out of? Because he's a doll.
- 21:15I mean, even Tiffany and Chucky say he has no fucking sex organs.
- 21:21So what does he pee out of?
- 21:24If that's the case, how did Chucky fuck Tiffany? Because he's got a doll dick.
- 21:32That means he's a girl then, because he has no pee. No, no, no, no.
- 21:37That's cleared up. And well, no offense to non-binary people and stuff.
- 21:42Yeah. No, no. I mean. All that.
- 21:47No. And then Tiffany, Tiffany goes, trust me, there's some asshole going to report us.
- 21:54So no, he pushed out, he pushed out. Let me finish for fuck's sake.
- 21:57He pushed down his kid's pants. He's got to give me up saying this out loud.
- 22:02He's got no penis. And Tiffany's like, oh my God, he's a beautiful girl.
- 22:06And Chucky goes, no it's a boy he's just a late bloomer,
- 22:10but he doesn't have a vagina either,
- 22:14however in the previous film, it is confirmed before the love scene,
- 22:17the sex scene between Chucky and Tiffany that they have working sexual organs of course they do,
- 22:24because she popped out Glenn at the end of the last one and it's also confirmed
- 22:29from the very first child's play actually, the more Charles Lee Ray inhabits
- 22:34the Chucky body the more human the body actually becomes. Okay.
- 22:40That might be, well no because Glenn's a late bloomer.
- 22:43Glenn No, yeah it must be because Glenn has been in that body for a long,
- 22:50but he's not maybe that's it, maybe because Glenn was never human.
- 22:54Well I don't know maybe it's because he's still a kid and he still has to grow,
- 22:59you know what I mean I don't know. Okay, you're growing with a penis or a vagina.
- 23:02Okay, let's get that out of the way right now, alright And so I can't believe
- 23:06we have four more minutes of this conversation going on it.
- 23:09So let's move on. Let's just move on. So-
- 23:14They want to decide they're going to transfer bodies to Jennifer Tilly and Red Man. Yes.
- 23:20No, not their bodies, their souls. Their souls. They want their souls. Yes, yes.
- 23:25And then they promise Glenn that they're not going to do any more killing.
- 23:33Well, Tiffany does, but Chucky sort of lands. Tiffany's authentic.
- 23:37Well, no, Chucky does promise, but it cuts to him crossing his fingers.
- 23:41Yes, yes, exactly. but Tiffany like goes to basically AA for killers, KA presumably,
- 23:47where she's trying to give up her murderous ways for the sake of being a parent,
- 23:51because this is actually a very touching sort of journey from a character's
- 23:56journey to becoming a parent.
- 24:00But yes, but also they want to then,
- 24:04impregnate Jennifer Tilly and then transfer Glenn or Glenda's soul into the
- 24:10baby yeah, so the problem is after Chucky masturbates to Fangoria magazine,
- 24:16they cut right away they don't give you a warning or anything to Tiffany with
- 24:21a turkey baster and it's dripping of Chucky's semen,
- 24:25why the fuck do I need to see this I mean it could have been worse it could
- 24:29have been worse it could have been wanking over at issue of Fantasbergoria,
- 24:35fuck me I mean you couldn't pay for promotion like that oh by the way just to
- 24:43make matters worse John Waters is standing outside the window taking photos of him doing it,
- 24:49Fucking, fuck this is stupid. How the fuck, how the fuck are you okay with that?
- 24:55How, I mean, one, two, and three.
- 24:57I mean, even the producer, David Kirshner, I listened to in the documentary
- 25:01being interviewed about it.
- 25:03And he was, but we went too far. We went too base with this one.
- 25:07It's like, no shit.
- 25:12Yeah. Fuck me. Well, Sarah's dead. So there goes Sarah in Club 7.
- 25:17She's out of it now. Yeah, she gets torched. Yes. She gets torn.
- 25:20You mean Joan? No, no. She's Joan.
- 25:23The assistant to Jennifer Tilly, who comes around to the house,
- 25:25but yes, she gets bumped off.
- 25:27Are you sure it's not Sarah? No, her name's Joan in it. Although I just know
- 25:31her as the girl from S Club 7, but yes, it doesn't matter.
- 25:34This is where we meet Glenda. Yeah, this is where we meet Glenda.
- 25:40Yes, yes. She's the confident killer who doesn't pee. Yeah, but she's also portrayed
- 25:45like a sort of Victorian prostitute, East End Cockney prostitute,
- 25:50who presumably Jack the Ripper would come after.
- 25:53It's like, oh, that dolly! But she, you know? But she doesn't kill...
- 25:58Yeah, she kills the assistant.
- 26:01Yes. She goes, and then goes, I'm a proper lady killer now!
- 26:07It's like watching East Enders on acid. And then Jennifer,
- 26:14Tiffany yes gives birth to twins yes that's right yeah that's the big plot twist
- 26:21yeah yes so that's a big twist there and then the doctor no no,
- 26:30Jennifer is the one pregnant. Sorry. Yes, I know.
- 26:35But Tiffany has, Sue transfers her soul into her.
- 26:38But yes, it's Jennifer, whenever she's still Jennifer, that gives birth to the
- 26:42twins. And that's a twist.
- 26:44Yeah, no, no, the whole thing, it's not those twists, fuck off.
- 26:48The whole thing is, they, they kidnapped Jennifer. Yes.
- 26:53And you see her putting Chucky Seed into her. Yes.
- 26:59Because she's the one who's got to get better for the twins. Yes.
- 27:02Then she wakes up. She doesn't realize what's happened.
- 27:07And she starts showing right away because, you know, the girlfriend of these babies.
- 27:12Jennifer doesn't actually get possessed. So maybe I said her name wrong because
- 27:16I'm getting mixed up with my Jennifers and my Tiffany's.
- 27:18But Jennifer doesn't actually get possessed by Tiffany until the very end in the hospital.
- 27:24Yeah, that's what I'm saying. They knock her out.
- 27:27Yes. They kidnap her, her and the taxi, the chauffeur guy.
- 27:31Yes, that's right. And that's where, that's where in the hospital,
- 27:34Jennifer wakes up. And that's where we see the kid from young Sherlock Holmes.
- 27:38Yes. I was just about to say that. And he's also unlocked stock and two smoking
- 27:41barrels. Another British cast member. Yeah. Okay.
- 27:45Yeah. So. Hey, this girl, he took off.
- 27:50And that's where, cause she's, yeah, she's in the hospital, gives birth to the twins.
- 27:56Chucky then ends up killing Tiffany. yes they have a fight yeah well he's also
- 28:02pissed at what she's done,
- 28:04there's a good line when he comes through actually like the shining like Jack
- 28:07Nicholson and the shining through the door and then everybody's waiting on that
- 28:11here's Chucky and he goes do you know what I can't think of anything to say,
- 28:17oh my god,
- 28:20do you know what this is also a journey for Chucky and all of the characters
- 28:25actually of self acceptance because whenever, during the whole sort of voodoo ritual,
- 28:32whenever the chauffeur and Jennifer are on the bed, Chucky turns around and
- 28:36says, you know what? I don't want to be human anymore.
- 28:39I'm fucking Chucky. I'm the killer doll.
- 28:42So this is about a journey. This is profound stuff, deep stuff,
- 28:45about self-acceptance.
- 28:49Same with Glenn and Glenda. So Glenn is no longer Glenda, but Glenn ends up
- 28:54fighting back against Chucky because of what he did to his, technically his mom.
- 28:59So he ends up chopping Chuckie up.
- 29:02Yes. Oh, by the way, I would jump in and say, by the way, Redman has been bumped
- 29:06off at this point as well.
- 29:08Who cares? I didn't bring it up because nobody cares.
- 29:12Nobody cares. I did. That's not a review, really. Who cares?
- 29:19So,
- 29:21The nanny, five years later, there's a nanny. That's Jennifer's nanny.
- 29:25Yes. No, no, no. Well, Jennifer, possessed by Tiffany.
- 29:29Yeah. Yes.
- 29:31Tiffany is now Jennifer and human Jennifer. Yes.
- 29:36But the nanny thinks the twins, especially Glenda, are trouble.
- 29:40Yeah. She's like, she's quiet.
- 29:43And she's got a bit of Chucky in her. And then Glenda gets Chucky's arm from
- 29:50a birthday present. No, it's Glenn gets that.
- 29:53Glenn, yeah, Glenn. Who gives a fuck? Who gives a fuck?
- 29:57Glenn and Glenn gets the arm from Chucky. You know how he always sends him pieces?
- 30:01You know, somebody sent him the arm of Chucky to him. Yeah. And then he starts peeing.
- 30:06Yes, that's right. Yeah. And then we cut away with the arm attacking everybody. Yeah.
- 30:12We don't see it, but that's what happens. Pretty much. Yeah.
- 30:15Yeah. And then we also see Jennifer Tilly, as possessed by Tiffany,
- 30:20with her eyes going green. like Tiffany, you know, just confirming.
- 30:23Yeah. Yeah, we didn't know that when Chucky killed Tiffany, that Tiffany was in Jennifer.
- 30:30Yeah, yeah, but don't find out until after that happens. But Tiffany's dead.
- 30:35Oh, Tiffany, how could she be in Jennifer?
- 30:38Well, the spell, the voodoo spell worked just before she died,
- 30:43because to do the voodoo spell, she's doing the voodoo spell to get into Tiffany
- 30:47just before she gets killed, and And then, you know.
- 30:51Oh, that's what they start arguing. But by the time, okay.
- 30:55I'll go. Yes. You know what did niggle me? I have to say as well.
- 30:58Oh, something bothered you. Please. Yeah.
- 31:00Way to start. Chucky and Tiffany get on like a house and fire straight away.
- 31:04But they had a major fallout and basically killed each other at the end of Bride.
- 31:09So that's, you know, there's inconsistency there with the characters.
- 31:13But I think.
- 31:15That bothers you, huh? That's the least of this film's worries.
- 31:19That's right. All right.
- 31:21All right. I don't, this is a piece of shit. It's terrible.
- 31:24So eight years later. Yes.
- 31:28Don's Don Messini grows a pair of balls and he decides, wow,
- 31:34I really destroyed my franchise.
- 31:36Tom Holland was right. I'm an asshole.
- 31:39David Kirshner, you're an asshole. You produce this shit. You're just as guilty. Yeah.
- 31:47So they decided they want to go back to the basics. One dollar environment.
- 31:52Yes, thank you. Thank you, Don Messini and David Kerster, for finally pulling
- 31:58your head out of your asses and going back to what works. A grounded Chucky.
- 32:04And not only that. That's all we want. And not only that, a very effective haunted
- 32:09house film that harks back to, well, there's so much it harks back to,
- 32:13including old sort of Shirley Jackson type films.
- 32:17Yeah, I know, I know. I know, I think you think of The Haunting and Fall Hustle
- 32:22Officer and all this. Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 32:23But I think sometimes you might think that.
- 32:26I don't think a lot of it is. I think a lot of it's just... Well,
- 32:30there's also quite a few sort of big references to The Exorcist here and Lee
- 32:36Remick's death in The Omen, you know, over the balcony.
- 32:40Yeah, but we had an over the balcony in the last one. I know,
- 32:43well, obviously, you know, he's a big fan. Mancini is obviously a big fan of
- 32:46the Omen. I'm just saying, I know, but just because, I mean,
- 32:50deaths had happened, there was plenty of balcony there.
- 32:52I'm just saying. It's a wet shot, but I think it's... And Mancini heavily references
- 32:57the Omen throughout this series.
- 32:59You know, even in the third one, he references Omen 2 with the Military Academy with Pride of Chucky.
- 33:05Yeah, yeah. The Arquette character is named after characters in the Omen, you know?
- 33:10So yeah, there's obviously, he's obviously a big fan with it.
- 33:14There's Hitchcock going on here as well, again. Okay, stop. Stop. Stop.
- 33:19You're giving away too much praise.
- 33:21You're just grabbing the straw now. Not at all. I think this is great.
- 33:25He's got Carpenter. He's got this. He's got this.
- 33:27He's got this. No, he doesn't. I think this is great, this one.
- 33:29I think is what you're saying.
- 33:31Now, let me let's just get into it, alright? Okay.
- 33:35You're really you're putting every fucking movie ever produced is in this film.
- 33:40I'm waiting for you to go, oh my god, you didn't see the Titanic?
- 33:43Yeah, it's in this. It's in this. I swear to God. Watch the bathtub scene again.
- 33:49Fucking hell. No, Titanic's referenced in the previous one. See the Joker?
- 33:53Ah, you just listed the top 100 horror movies of all time. That's in this film.
- 33:57But I did see them here. And obviously, you know, put it here. I saw the Blair Witch.
- 34:02Well, maybe not it. You didn't see the Blair Witch. Maybe not it.
- 34:05I saw the Blair Witch in it too. Right. Well, all I'm saying is Godzilla. I saw Godzilla. I think.
- 34:10I saw the original 1957 Godzilla in this, too. Right, very good. Good on you. Yeah.
- 34:16But no, no, what I'm saying is that while Mancini's open about his references
- 34:20and his sort of influences, he still does them very well, especially here in
- 34:25this one. That's my point.
- 34:28Wait a minute to get to it. Well,
- 34:31it was worth it. I've been listing every fucking movie ever produced.
- 34:36Yeah, this one's gone straight to video and on demand. Made money. Good for them.
- 34:41They actually regret it. A lot of companies, Frey was a perfect example when
- 34:47we did the Predator film. Yes.
- 34:49The studio just wasn't confident enough. And then Frey ended up winning all
- 34:53these awards and ended up being
- 34:54a fucking great film. Now they regret not putting that in the theater.
- 34:57And it helped Alien Romulus get a life because that was supposed to go direct to video.
- 35:03But then that got theater. That was a box out of a smash. Evil Dead Rise was
- 35:08supposed to go direct the video.
- 35:10But they saw. So, very frankly, I will back this up.
- 35:14I do think this Chucky film helped pave the way for pretty solid budget cinema,
- 35:22a good cinema, either coming out right away straight to video.
- 35:25And it kind of started with this film. It's very, very. Because it's a big.
- 35:30You had like Leprechaun, and then you had fucking 12 fucking sequels of Leprechaun
- 35:35coming out right to video. That's different.
- 35:37This is a film franchise that was quite frankly successful in its theoretical
- 35:42run, and they decided to do a one-off sequel and put it right to video. That's rare.
- 35:48That's rare, rare you'll see that. Oh, you know what? Great.
- 35:50And apparently Don Mancini originally actually wanted to remake the original,
- 35:55but then eventually, with Brad Dourif, by the way,
- 35:58but eventually they came to this sort of more sort
- 36:01of soft reboot type thing and and
- 36:04soft reboots were a thing around 10 years ago as well
- 36:07you know up to five years ago or so and it is a rare case of this being done
- 36:12very well and very effectively this is i mean there's actually not a massive
- 36:17budget here but it is so what they do with the budget is so well done and so
- 36:23effectively don't, you know?
- 36:26Yeah, it's definitely going back to the original. Yes, script back.
- 36:30If not even a smaller budget than the original. Yeah.
- 36:34So again, Chucky's MO, Sarah gets a delivery. It's a package.
- 36:41Obviously, we know what's going to be in that package, a good guy doll.
- 36:45Yeah. Now, I know the mom have mental issues. I believe they bring that up.
- 36:50What's the reason? Yeah, but, and so, because we don't, we don't know that yet,
- 36:56but we know they have, they have the mom and daughter have a little tension
- 36:59between them, but they're, they respect each other, obviously, or care for each other.
- 37:04And, but I do love when Sarah, by the way, Sarah is obviously played by Brad
- 37:09Doris' daughter, Fiona, and this is one of her big first outings,
- 37:14and she's very good at it.
- 37:15I do like her presence in it. Yeah. And. She looks like her dad.
- 37:19Yeah, a little bit. Helps the story as well. So...
- 37:24When she's all happy, she's a very quiet individual. We kind of introduced her
- 37:28because she's in a wheelchair and she's a little down on herself, obviously.
- 37:32And trying to get out of this box that she's in with her mother.
- 37:37So it was pleasant surprise when she's getting hit on by the delivery guy.
- 37:41And the guy was hitting on her. Yes. I would even say that.
- 37:44And she turns to the mom. God, was he just hitting on me? And the mom goes,
- 37:48oh, no, he was just being nice.
- 37:50But the mom's trying, you biatch. No, no, no. Well, yes and no.
- 37:54But at the same time, the mother's trying to protect her daughter as well from
- 37:58being hurt and some guy just using her for sex, you know.
- 38:01So I get, you know, because her mother knows, you know, which we'll find out
- 38:07later on, you know, the full backstory of why she's like that.
- 38:11And she doesn't want her to be hurt like she was hurt, or in fact her Nika was
- 38:16hurt before she was even born by Charles Lee Ray.
- 38:20So, yeah, no, that works. That makes sense. So it does.
- 38:23Ah no I don't like it so fuck off you want to treat your daughter like that
- 38:28that's fine Trevor that's fine it's from a place of protection she's trying
- 38:33to protect her evil woman evil woman well she gets bumped off pretty soon anyway so she's dead now.
- 38:41So she makes she pretty much throw the Chucky doll in the fucking trash yes
- 38:46and then but it's nice it's night time now and then you hear obviously the mother
- 38:51screaming and she heads down and she sees that the mother has,
- 38:56fallen and there's blood everywhere.
- 38:58There's a superb shot where we see Nika's reflection in the pool of blood.
- 39:03Yeah, I saw that. It's brilliantly done.
- 39:07I have that on my notes. It is a nice shot as the blood's expanding on the floor.
- 39:12You can see her reaction. And then it says, Curse of Chucky.
- 39:16Yes. So it's such a pleasant
- 39:20surprise the first 10 minutes you already know a couple of characters we already
- 39:25know the main one we know there's a tragedy from the past that's all we know
- 39:29and then we get our title banner and then the movie takes off from there and
- 39:35such a small group very effective Alice,
- 39:40you've got the husband Ian and you've got Jill and Barb and I will say this
- 39:45it does have one of the best misdirects in horror cinema because I thought for
- 39:51sure Ian was fucking Jill.
- 39:53Yes. And they throw one at you. I think it's so fucking clever.
- 39:58Yeah. And all these characters are fun, but, and... There's actually a couple
- 40:03of misdirects with that relationship because, you know, Ian's portrayed as also
- 40:07a bit stupid and he's always sleeping and stuff, but actually,
- 40:11he's actually very clever.
- 40:12So he is. And he knows exactly what's going on.
- 40:15Yeah, because he's had the cameras. Yes, exactly. Yeah. he knows what the wife's up to.
- 40:21Of course, there's a, well, we're introduced to the priest.
- 40:24You know, it's unfortunate that they had to go this direction because,
- 40:28well, they deem the mom as a suicide because of her past and she's done it, she's tried it before.
- 40:36So there's really no suspicious activity here. The young girl,
- 40:40Alice, finds Chucky and obviously befriends Chucky.
- 40:44And we find out that Barb, who's the sister of our lead, Sarah,
- 40:51wants to sell the house because Ian's working at a Starbucks.
- 40:56No, she's the sister of Nika? So does the mom of them both? Oh,
- 41:01yeah, Nika. Sorry, yeah. Yeah, yeah. I forgot the names to choose there.
- 41:04So, and then Alice might have to go to public school. Some of the dialogue is
- 41:09quite funny. Well, Barb's a bitch-like. Barb's a super bitch.
- 41:13Yeah, quite pretentious. Barbara's quite pretentious. Yeah.
- 41:17And Nika doesn't want to lose her home because of petty stuff like that. Yes. Yeah.
- 41:23Well, she wants to put Nika for money. She wants to put Nika in a home.
- 41:27Now, what I really enjoy is one of the better scenes in the film is going to be the chili scene.
- 41:35Brilliant. And what works about this chili scene, what Mancini wanted to do
- 41:41is he wanted to work mainly, he wanted this film to focus on one director,
- 41:47not the 300 that Trevor brought up.
- 41:49He said he wants it, no, he said he wants it to be Hitchcock.
- 41:54Yeah. And he wants limited, my favorite Hitchcock films are the ones where there's one location.
- 42:01Strip back. And that is rear window and rope.
- 42:04Yes. And what was the other one? The one where they're on the lifeboat?
- 42:09Lifeboat. Lifeboat. Lifeboat was the other one. Yeah, that one.
- 42:11And so limited space.
- 42:14And this scene is his own scene. He's not taken from anybody.
- 42:18He's not borrowing from anyone.
- 42:20He's making it his own. and I think it's well shot, well written,
- 42:23where Nika wants to give everyone a nice chili dinner.
- 42:26Barb is very standoffice with it. She's very rude to her about it.
- 42:30Everyone else is enjoying it. You got the father. The father's,
- 42:33the priest has shown up, played by A. Martinez, who's been around for years. I like to see him.
- 42:38Part of his, he's a big soup opera actor in America. Well, you know he was,
- 42:43but he's been around since the 70s when he was a kid.
- 42:46But he was big in LA Law. Yes. But he's been around for- Big TV actor.
- 42:51Yeah. Big TV actor, exactly. But I like to see him.
- 42:55But the whole build, and all it is, is she's got the chili out.
- 43:01She's getting the, Alice is helping her set the dinner table.
- 43:07And obviously he's a little hand with rat poison.
- 43:11And he puts rat poison only on one of the dishes.
- 43:14Yeah. And so, and then we cut away and she's putting the dishes down.
- 43:17And they're all eating the chili. don't know which one's going to get. It's so fucking fun.
- 43:24You want Barb to get it because she's being really rude to her. Oh, can I get some salt?
- 43:28You know what I mean? Well, there's some brilliant misdirects as well,
- 43:32you know, where you think the child's at it.
- 43:34And she goes, oh, there's something funny about this. It tastes a bit funny.
- 43:37So you think the child's got it. Then you think Ian, the dad,
- 43:40he goes, wait a minute, wait a minute. Oh, wait a minute.
- 43:43And then he goes, this is absolutely delicious. So there's a lot of sort of, yeah.
- 43:48Yeah, it's very fun like that. And that's why this whole, if it was Hitchcock
- 43:55style, it would be all done with dramatic effect.
- 43:58This way, what Mancini does, he does the whole thing, dramatic effect and tension,
- 44:02but he puts his little Chucky humor in there as well. It's all humor.
- 44:06So that's why I'm saying he makes it his own. And that's why I can respect.
- 44:10And this is where, man, fucking, I'm pissed off at Mancini right now.
- 44:13Because I'm telling you what, this guy can direct.
- 44:16Well, he said himself. What I have seen, his last two outings were terrible.
- 44:22His first two outings of all time, his first two, his freshman and sophomore, were terrible.
- 44:29To be fair to Mancini, he has said that this one, Curse of Chucky,
- 44:33is the first horror film he directed.
- 44:35Because he never considered Bride and Seed to be horror films,
- 44:40but comedies, out and out comedies.
- 44:42Yeah, that's the way, but it doesn't matter. That doesn't matter. They're horrible.
- 44:45They're horrible films. And what he's, you know, that doesn't make any sense
- 44:49what you're saying or what he, what he's saying makes no sense.
- 44:52He's not directing. I know it's about intention.
- 44:55He's talking about his intention towards them where he approached the previous
- 44:59two as comedy. It doesn't matter. He did.
- 45:02He should have. That's his problem.
- 45:04When he has this kind of talent and he gets, when he has that kind of talent,
- 45:08what we're, what you see now. And he gives us those last two shit films.
- 45:13Get my point. I know I get your point and I understand how divisive the fan
- 45:18base, both Seed and Bride are, but I'm trying to be further to Mancini here
- 45:23in that he was approaching them as out and out comedies so,
- 45:27I'm completely destroying your franchise.
- 45:29Makes sense. I mean, you know, but, you know, I just don't get how you defend it.
- 45:35I just don't, I mean, I just don't get how you defend it. I don't get why you
- 45:39can't have the balls to go, Mancini, you've got this talent.
- 45:42Why the fuck to go this direction.
- 45:44I don't know what was going on in his head. I don't get it. I don't know what
- 45:47was going on in his head, obviously.
- 45:49All right. Well, no, obviously your best friends.
- 45:52Yeah. So we find out the father is the one who's excusing himself.
- 45:56He makes an excuse. He's got to leave. So we know he's the one who's eating
- 45:59something because he's not feeling well. Yeah, the priest.
- 46:01And he's so, and the father, even though it's a small scene,
- 46:03he's a very good character. He's a very nice man. Yeah.
- 46:07And he's. The beat of sweat. And he's even willing to pick up and leave because
- 46:11he knows the tension between Barb and Nika.
- 46:14And so he doesn't want to ruin Nika's dinner by going, oh, I'm not feeling well.
- 46:19So he makes an excuse that he's got an early church or whatever he's got to
- 46:22do, whatever. Mass or something, yeah.
- 46:24Whatever you realize as a viewer that he's the one that's at the poison, it's really well done.
- 46:30And that it's just a single bead of sweat rolling down his head. Yeah.
- 46:35And he's starting to stammer a bit. So, and then we, all we do is we cut to
- 46:39a horrible car accident.
- 46:42We see two dead bodies. He's hit a car. He's obviously killed two people because
- 46:47he was obviously taken ill.
- 46:49And then we see him. Oh my God. Yeah.
- 46:54His head's pretty much severed, but if they remove the roof from his head, he's,
- 46:59That's him dead. So he's alive still. Yes. But the cop then says,
- 47:03no, remove it, remove it. You know, we'll have to try and save him.
- 47:08But it actually just ends up decapitating him.
- 47:11Yeah. There's nothing they can do. Yes. There's no way around it. Yeah.
- 47:15I actually think that this is, in its own way, I mean, obviously I don't know,
- 47:20but this could very well be a reference to the omen as well with the photographer's death.
- 47:26But also there was some urban myth I don't even think it's an urban myth I think
- 47:30it's true where there was one of the caster crew I think it was one of the crew
- 47:34of the Omen also were in a horrific real life car crash and lost their head
- 47:40so I think Mancini could be playing with the Omen stuff here again but making a result.
- 47:46So yes yeah you have,
- 47:51Jill get some nice jump scares in here there's not a lot of them but it's definitely
- 47:56a slow burn film which is different for a Chucky film usually Chucky's just
- 48:00going out and you know get his top hat out get the mic on and start making jokes
- 48:04well Chucky doesn't speak here,
- 48:0745 minutes in yeah he's very reserved in this one playing his cards closely which is nice,
- 48:16but yeah there's some nice jump scares here to keep us into the element playing
- 48:22with the shadows and the haunted house of it. Exactly.
- 48:26But this is where you found the misdirect, where you find out that Ian's not
- 48:30the one having the affair, because you always see Barb looking at Ian and Jill
- 48:35talking all the time, but it turns out that it's Barb and the babysitter.
- 48:41That's right. That are having the affair. Yeah, and it's actually a really clever
- 48:45rogue person, you know what I mean? Playing with that sort of trunk. It is. Yeah.
- 48:50They should have sexing. I don't know why they didn't put that in there.
- 48:52Very disappointed. Well, the
- 48:53kissing Anyway, perv. Well, if there were two dolls, we would have saw it.
- 49:01Now, it sucks because the movie was going in a direction,
- 49:06they filmed it but because budgetary purposes they had to remove it and it was ballsy and i,
- 49:13i almost wish they could release a director's cut now the time has passed during
- 49:19the filming of this there was another school shooting that took place in the
- 49:22u.s yes and so out of respect to those poor children who were killed alice gets
- 49:29killed in this yes and they kind of show it,
- 49:32you see her being, you don't see her being gutted, but you see underneath the sheets.
- 49:36Blood coming underneath the white sheets.
- 49:38So you notice he's being killed, but they just do a one-off.
- 49:42You don't even see it. Chuck her in the closet. And Chucky just says, be quiet.
- 49:47Yes. He lets her go. Doesn't really tell you why. This is the reason why they filmed it real quick.
- 49:52At the end of the movie, there's just Chuck in a closet, write her off.
- 49:55If there is one niggle I do have with this film, it is that element of it.
- 50:00Because it's not really properly explained. And you can see that obviously in
- 50:04post-production, you know, we're no one now, you know, why they did this.
- 50:08You know, they were originally supposed to kill off the girl,
- 50:10but then because of the Sandy Hook shootings, they decided not to.
- 50:15You can see that there's a bit of editing in post-production that has went on
- 50:18where instead Alice just disappears.
- 50:21Yeah, well, it's not their fault. Yeah, exactly. I'm not going to blame them on that.
- 50:25And kudos for them doing that. Yeah. However, I think they can bring it back
- 50:29now. I think I would like to see a nice, you know, clean cut.
- 50:33Yeah. But I respect Messini and Kirsten for not doing it. Yes.
- 50:38But it is shot. It is there, so...
- 50:42Maybe down the road. I would say that the child actress who plays Alice is pretty decent as well.
- 50:47And I usually don't like child actresses, but she's in keeping with the young
- 50:51Andy Barclay, Alex Vincent.
- 50:53And she's, I mean, she's no Andy Barclay or Alex Vincent, but she's effective enough. She works well.
- 50:59Yeah, but she's not bad. Not bad. Usually I hate those little fuckers.
- 51:01So do I. She gets it with it. Yeah, usually I'm on Chucky's side or whoever the villain is. Yeah.
- 51:06I don't know. That's because you're a sick fuck. So, she'll get it with the,
- 51:10I love the electrocution. Yes, it's right. With the water. Good.
- 51:14You know, this Chucky was a little fun because it played a little bit like Final Destination.
- 51:19Yes. So everything's kind of free planned and set up. And so you see the water
- 51:23coming and she plugs in the iPad or laptop or the phone, whatever it is.
- 51:28And so you see, you know, point A to point B to point C before everything goes down.
- 51:33And she obviously gets electrocuted. And for some reason, I don't know why it
- 51:36was, but I just love the fact it was just the one eye. Yeah.
- 51:39It just got sizzled. I kind of like that effect. It's pretty gruesome.
- 51:43And the CGI, while it's not 100% great for it, it still works, I think.
- 51:47You know? And usually I would pick more holes in a scene like this with CGI,
- 51:52but I think it works well here.
- 51:54Nothing against the CGI and the practical. I think they're great.
- 51:58No, no, that's what I'm saying. I think they work well. It's not 100%,
- 52:00but I think they work well enough to pull it off.
- 52:05Yeah, so the webcam that was set up by Ian catches a lot more stuff now. Yes.
- 52:10This is where they start kind of catching on a bit. The Chucky's, you know.
- 52:15Behind it all? Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 52:19Now, the power goes out on the stairs. This is fun. The power goes out on the
- 52:22stairs. The power goes out. Yes.
- 52:25And Barb is running around looking for answers and so forth.
- 52:31What, she's looking for Alice?
- 52:32And she's looking for, yeah. Well, everyone's looking for Alice at this point.
- 52:38And she gets stabbed in the eye. That's pretty good death. Yeah.
- 52:42And the eye didn't check down the stairs afterwards. Actually, it works well.
- 52:46And then he comes down and steps on it. Yes, he is. It's quite gruesome.
- 52:50Ian's death is pretty good as well, you know, with the hatchet, you know, the face.
- 52:58They're all just, you know what I like about the deaths, with the,
- 53:01especially with the stabbing in the eye, and Ian's death, They're all old school.
- 53:07Like Tom Sawini era yeah but they
- 53:10feel sort of quite creative not the most creative
- 53:13in the world but they feel quite creative at the same
- 53:16time you know I also do like
- 53:19the scene where basically Ian suspects Mika of committing the murders as any
- 53:24rational sane person would and it basically then you know they're out in the
- 53:28car and Chucky's in the car and stuff and you know little shit's watching them
- 53:32and stuff so yeah there's a lot of tension and a lot of stuff going on here
- 53:37that actually makes proper,
- 53:39coherent sense in terms of the story and with the characters.
- 53:42I like the fact that Chucky's not the Chucky we know where he wants full credit now. And he's the man.
- 53:51He actually has a rhyme and reason for what he's doing.
- 53:53In fact, he's about to set up Nika carbon dioxide poisoning in the car. Yes.
- 54:00So to make it look like suicide like her mother and that she's responsible for the deaths in the house.
- 54:05Yeah, it's also revenge. on her and
- 54:08especially her mother as we find out in the flashbacks that's
- 54:11right I keep I forgot when they're watching the family videos yes yes Charles
- 54:16Lee Ray we see a D we see a D we see a D we see a D Charles Lee Ray I don't
- 54:19even think the D Brad Dourif in it according to what I've read up on it they
- 54:23basically it was just through lighting and a wig basically you know I suppose I suppose yeah yeah.
- 54:32Yeah, that we find out because, you know, there's a stalker in him because we
- 54:38see the funeral of her husband.
- 54:40Yes. And Nika's dad and all he is is staring at Sarah the whole time. Yes.
- 54:47And Sarah is looking at him and Sarah, you can see in the funeral,
- 54:51is feeling a bit uncomfortable.
- 54:52Those are kind of stuff I like because that's serious stuff.
- 54:56The flashbacks. We find out what happens. Are very. We find out what Charles E.
- 55:01Ray does to her and what he ends up becoming.
- 55:05So it's almost like a nice sequel prequel.
- 55:09Yes, a soft reboot, essentially. I also love the tie-ins with how the flashback
- 55:16scenes tie in directly to the very opening scene of the original film,
- 55:20you know, in the toy store,
- 55:21where basically he escapes from Sarah's house after the police close in, you know, making stuff.
- 55:26And he basically, and that's where he ends up getting shot and transferring
- 55:30his soul into the chopster.
- 55:34We gotta go back to Ian. Yes.
- 55:39Because when he does his fucking those pratical effects are the best.
- 55:45When he just shoves that axe in his mouth and his jaw's gone at this point.
- 55:50Oh, you see all the bone. You see all the bone and everything.
- 55:54Oh, that was Oh, that's good stuff, man. Yeah.
- 55:58And he's quite a likable character. That is probably, that's probably the most
- 56:01graphic death of all the Chucky's.
- 56:03Very possibly. And he's, I always sort of, you were sort of rooting for him.
- 56:07You know what I mean? Because he was, apart from the child and Mika herself,
- 56:12he was probably the most likable and nicest character.
- 56:17Yeah, he wasn't a bad guy. He was just trying to, you know, he's working at
- 56:20a Starbucks just to feed his family. Exactly. So he's not a loser.
- 56:24Yeah. Now, what I don't get is,
- 56:27And she cuts off Chucky's head. Yes. There's no blood or cartilage like you got from the other ones.
- 56:33Cause he, remember he's, he starts molding with the rubber.
- 56:36So it's becomes a little bit of everything. That did jar with me a bit.
- 56:41Yeah. So when he cuts off his head, it's just like you cut off the head of a
- 56:44doll. It pops off. So he can go over, he goes over to the body of the head and puts it back on.
- 56:49Isn't that kind of a cheat? the only explanation you could have for
- 56:52that is that this is after the
- 56:55events of the previous film that this is
- 56:59the body of a different good guy doll but still
- 57:02with like chuck because it's obviously still still chucky from
- 57:05the previous film you know in terms of the face because whenever
- 57:08the the peel back the sort of you know
- 57:11the skin yeah and that's actually
- 57:14a really good reveal because there is a slight different look to
- 57:17the good guy chucky here from even the originals which
- 57:20I think a lot of the fans were pissed off about especially before it
- 57:23was released but it does make sense in terms of well his face would be slightly
- 57:28disjointed because of all the scarring but we don't know that until she removes
- 57:32the fake but before this was released going by the trailers I think a lot of
- 57:37fans were pissed off that did slightly tweak the design of Chucky but,
- 57:42they're prejudging it yes exactly there is a reason for it yeah,
- 57:48exactly Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yes.
- 57:52I like when he throws her off the balcony. It's funny when you see her thrown
- 57:57off the balcony, and you feel sorry for her because she's had such a shitty
- 58:02life, and she's obviously paralyzed from legs down.
- 58:07And it's like, how do you not want to root for this girl?
- 58:11Oh, yeah, totally. And now that you put, first, you got Andy,
- 58:16this asshole going after a little kid, Andy.
- 58:19You just go you just when you first see chucky you're like what the fuck am
- 58:22i watching this is brilliant but now you that's what i'm saying this that's
- 58:26why this one works because it's dark.
- 58:29It's like you still got your little banter you still got a little funny chucky
- 58:33there but it's not stand-up night with chucky this is a guy who's going to go
- 58:38after a girl that he pretty much already put is in this wheelchair we find out
- 58:44by stabbing the mother because Charles E.
- 58:47Ray attacked the mother while she was pregnant with Nika and stabbed her in the stomach.
- 58:54Yes. And that is why Nika or me is it Nika or Nika? I can never sort of decide.
- 58:59Nika. Yeah. Well, yeah. Basically, he's the cause of her being in basically
- 59:04a wheelchair all of her life.
- 59:06And there's actually so yeah, I mean she gets really rough especially,
- 59:11you know she eventually does get blamed in these murders and basically,
- 59:14sectioned for them for the, you know To a place for the criminally insane,
- 59:18So yeah she gets it rough But I do love the verbal sparring Between her and
- 59:23Chucky About Andy Barclay He goes yeah but you didn't kill Andy Barclay You
- 59:27know all this here He survived and Chucky's like Yeah but I killed his childhood Next best thing,
- 59:34So it's actually done by father and daughter You know the dwarfs So yeah works
- 59:40very well Like so much of this film.
- 59:43And what sucks, they kind of go the route they were with Catherine Hicks, the mom in the original.
- 59:48That was just a one line. Remember how I said I'd like to see the outcome?
- 59:52Yes. Of how you explain all these deaths?
- 59:54They actually do it, and that's why I brought that up a couple movies ago.
- 59:58I wanted to see a transition after all these bodies are found.
- 1:00:02How do they get out of this and make a sequel?
- 1:00:05They totally do find out. She actually is, she's found, she's found,
- 1:00:09she's incompetent, legally incompetent, and she's reprimanded into an asylum
- 1:00:13for the criminally insane.
- 1:00:15And she has lost the plot at this point. We see her.
- 1:00:18She has lost it, and you know what? Sad thing is, you can see that happening,
- 1:00:22because at this point, she's fucked.
- 1:00:24Well, to be fair, if a voodoo enhanced killer doll had done a load of killings
- 1:00:29that you get the blame of, yeah, you'd be pretty, let's just say, upset.
- 1:00:34I wouldn't. I'd just go, Trevor did it, and then they'd be like,
- 1:00:37oh, yeah, that makes sense.
- 1:00:42Sorry go ahead no no it's alright so I got a question for you this is where
- 1:00:47I got confused yes at the end the cop takes the doll yes and then Tiffany cuts his throat yes he pops up,
- 1:00:57is that the same cop
- 1:01:01in the scene we had in Bride no no but the scene itself is an homage to that
- 1:01:08scene because even Tiffany after Tiffany kills him she laughs and goes oh they
- 1:01:12never learn so yes it's a different cop but it's just a replay of a similar scene,
- 1:01:18Tiffany's behind all this.
- 1:01:22She's the one sending the parcels with the dolls in them for Chucky to get revenge I figured.
- 1:01:28Okay so she's out to get they're just right now getting revenge on the people
- 1:01:32who fuck Chucky pretty much yeah even though Chucky fucked them first yeah exactly
- 1:01:37but he's still out for revenge,
- 1:01:39And then you got the end credits And of course Andy shows out Which is nice It's a lovely scene,
- 1:01:45good on him. Yeah. And, and he's just, he's talking, I like the fact he's talking to his mom.
- 1:01:51Yeah. I like the fact you see a picture of him and Catherine Hicks during filming
- 1:01:57of, obviously they took that picture while filming Child's Play. Yes.
- 1:02:00And I really like the little picture, the little, the plaque on the wall.
- 1:02:05Did you catch that? Oh, well there's a couple, there's also a picture of Kyle from Child's Play too.
- 1:02:10But yes, there's a plaque from the military academy. Yeah, he graduated from there.
- 1:02:13You know, I know, you know what is, which I thought was no but
- 1:02:16I like that oh yeah it gave us closure to those
- 1:02:19yes yes exactly I think overall it
- 1:02:22is a just a fantastic scene and fan service
- 1:02:25done right but I also love how it turns
- 1:02:28out that the mother and mate are now a couple and also the best the best bit
- 1:02:33is very subtle and if you blink you'll miss it whenever Chucky is like cutting
- 1:02:38himself out of the box with the knife he looks over at the plaque and the photos
- 1:02:42and just gives this very it's a Blink and you'll miss it. This dirty look towards him.
- 1:02:47You know, this sneer. And it's just so fucking clever and funny.
- 1:02:52Because he's pissed that he's moved on. Yeah, he still hates him.
- 1:02:56And it's just so, so beautifully done.
- 1:02:59And then he turns around. I love when he turns around and goes,
- 1:03:03play with this. Yeah, Andy! Boom.
- 1:03:08Fantastic. I mean, that's fan service done right, if you ask me.
- 1:03:13Yeah, no, this film is... This is brilliant film.
- 1:03:16This is a brilliant sequel.
- 1:03:19This would be up there if you put 2018 Halloween with it. I think it's the best Child's Play sequel.
- 1:03:25But it's the best Child's Play sequel by far. Yeah, by far.
- 1:03:29This saves the series for me. One, two, and three get passes, obviously.
- 1:03:34And then this one. So the last two never happened in my eyes.
- 1:03:39Unfortunately, they're going to have to because...
- 1:03:41We get the cult of Chucky's next, which takes place in Asylum.
- 1:03:47I can't remember. I can remember being slightly disappointed.
- 1:03:50It's on the rail, but we'll get to it. But we'll find out. It's nowhere near as good as this.
- 1:03:56Yeah, this is grade A filmmaking.
- 1:03:59And Don Machini should go out and do something different. Get away from Chucky.
- 1:04:03And create something different and do a nice thriller. I like to see what he can do with a thriller.
- 1:04:09And he's still young. He's only like 60 or whatever. So, you know what I mean? Oh, yeah.
- 1:04:13You got discovered very young when you got Chucky. Yeah, 25 or something.
- 1:04:16That's the reason why they brought all these big names on board with Chucky,
- 1:04:20because they needed bets like Tom Holland. Yes.
- 1:04:23But we'll see what happens. I'm looking forward to revisiting the cult,
- 1:04:27and we'll see what happens. And then the reboot, which is controversial.
- 1:04:31And I will say now, I actually really enjoyed the reboot.
- 1:04:35So, again, we'll revisit it and take it from there. I haven't seen it. And our retrospective.
- 1:04:40I haven't seen it. The remake yet because I didn't want it to basically tar
- 1:04:46my memories of the original franchise.
- 1:04:49But yeah, I will get to it obviously for this podcast. But I haven't seen it yet, the remake.
- 1:04:54Well, the only difference is Brad Dorff's gone. It's Mark Hamill.
- 1:04:58Luke Skywalker. You know, Skywalker.
- 1:05:02And it is brutally violent. There's some incredible deaths in that Chucky movie.
- 1:05:06A lot of people didn't want to go see it because they have respect for Chucky.
- 1:05:10I'll go with it. I can get that, but you know what? Give it a shot,
- 1:05:13guys, and then listen to us when we talk about it next week.
- 1:05:16All right, we're going to wrap this one up. We can be reached out.
- 1:05:19Give us a shout-out, Citizenframe underscore podcast on Instagram and, of course, Facebook.
- 1:05:24That's all I really got to add
- 1:05:26to this one. I'm not as mad now because we ended on a good note this time.
- 1:05:30Not that fucking train wreck film that Trevor thinks is a masterpiece.
- 1:05:33I enjoy it for what it is.
- 1:05:36You know? So you may. So, you know, that means you're going to like every film ever made.
- 1:05:40No not necessarily yeah it is you now have an excuse to like every film.
- 1:05:47No no no it's all about delivery of that as well obviously wow if you're going
- 1:05:53to do homage to Tri Cinema you might as well go all out with it and they do
- 1:05:58that in seat of Chucky and more,
- 1:06:01guys I gotta end this now because I'm just gonna end his life so that's all I have okay Bye-bye.
- 1:06:11All right, dramatic ending. All right, take care. Talk to us later.
