- 0:04like we had a couple of weeks ago, just hanging out after work,
- 0:06chit chatting away as we welcome you to the Yukon Hockey Coaches Show.
- 0:10My Cavanough, Bob Joyce. Here, Adam Jardino prepping for his grad exam
- 0:15tomorrow. He wants to get into grad school. Good luck to Adam.
- 0:18I'm sure he'll make that happen. Well, you know, he's a big
- 0:21TV star now on the House Hunters. He was He and his wife are
- 0:24on House Hunters Thursday night. Did it air? Yeah? Air Thursday night?
- 0:28Yeah, well I have to go look for it on h Yeah.
- 0:31HG TV. Was a great, good, good show. As Adam so
- 0:34aptly put it, they made what Meg his wife the villain. Really Adam
- 0:38came out smelling like a rose. But it was good. It was good.
- 0:41It was entertaining, not surprising, a very entertaining show. Yeah,
- 0:44Adam looked like Adam was. Adam was prepared and they had a nice house
- 0:48and meg Mo's lawn. She's got a cool lawn tractor and she loves going
- 0:52on the on the lawn track. Do you know your own lawn? I
- 0:56don't know. Meg won't let him mow the lawn. Oh, it's not
- 0:59that Adam doesn't want to. Meg. We don't let him, not anymore.
- 1:03I used to anymore. That's what we have a teenage son for,
- 1:06right, exactly? All right? Well, driving home with your sid Colin
- 1:11Stewart on Friday night after a frustrating loss to Union where you did everything but
- 1:17score, the hope was, hey, let's get a win Saturday. Thirty
- 1:21shots on goal in the first period, nothing to show for it, and
- 1:23then the damn finally broke and it came in a big way, five nothing
- 1:27win. And I know you made some line changes, but good grief.
- 1:32I mean, I can't even imagine what the reaction to the players was in
- 1:34the locker room, even after the first period you put all those shots on
- 1:38goal and it's still scoreless. Yeah, it was. You almost had to
- 1:42just laugh. It was crazy how well we played in that first period,
- 1:46and if you want to bring it back, essentially the previous six periods before
- 1:52that period we had played pretty well. Yeah, the night before with the
- 1:56game that you did Friday night, I think it was eighteen to five,
- 1:59and the period we outshot him and I thought we were gonna you know,
- 2:02we Harrison tied the game up there at one, and God the kid made
- 2:07an incredible save on Chase Bradley on the back door Friday night. If that
- 2:12had gone in, I think, you know, it might have been a
- 2:14little bit different. But that's a game of hockey. I remember Jack Parker
- 2:19a long time ago saying, I'm not sure if it's appropriately named hockey,
- 2:23it maybe should be called goalie. And some nights you feel that way,
- 2:27you know. But I think we were pretty determined on Saturday that we were
- 2:31going to play a no doubter, no matter how good the goalie was,
- 2:36no matter what they threw at us, we were going to play so well
- 2:38that we were going to find a way to win. Was it a sense
- 2:42Friday night after the game of the guys, Yeah, I mean you talked
- 2:44about it being laughable at times playing so well, but was at the point
- 2:47where they're just ticked off and said, let's got to put the hammer down.
- 2:52It's hard because you don't want to squeeze the sticks. You don't want
- 2:54to put pressure on yourself, you know, you know, in a golf
- 2:59and allergy. It would be like having sixteen birdie putts, you know,
- 3:02and not making any of them. You'd be I'm not familiar with that.
- 3:07Yeah, I know, neither am I. But that's how it is.
- 3:08Like you're playing really well, you're just not scoring, and as frustrating as
- 3:14it can be, you have to stay the course. The damn finally broke
- 3:17Matthew Woods scored in midway through the second period with an assist from Hudson shand
- 3:23Or Was this a snipe? I know you'd scored some dirty goals in the
- 3:25game, but was that a sniper? Yeah, we actually had It was
- 3:29off a face off, so we had set up a triangle face off play
- 3:31and Maddy stepped into it. How he won the drawer and Maddy stepped into
- 3:36it and roofed it short side. So that was a big goal for us,
- 3:38and you know, Chase followed up with a real gritty goal after that,
- 3:43and then just you know, then we got a Fluke goal. It
- 3:47was about time, but it was you know, you can say it was
- 3:51a Fluke goal because we just threw it at the net and went off Tristan
- 3:54Fraser stick and went in. But it was really good hockey or deep pinched
- 4:00and taber Heaslip covered for the d and when the puck came to him,
- 4:02he fired it at the net and we were there. So we did a
- 4:05lot of things right on that play to score goal. Right. You mentioned
- 4:10some of the line changes and the most significant one, well, there were
- 4:14a lot of line changes, but the one that was the most productive of
- 4:15the last three goals. Tristan, Ryan, Mashie and who will hear later
- 4:19on in taber Heaslip. They all had six point nights. They played great.
- 4:25I thought, they really gave us a lot of energy. They four
- 4:28checked well, they got pucks to the net, they won battles, they
- 4:31very rarely were in their own zone, so they gave us a really you
- 4:36know, those top three lines at night played extremely well. I thought,
- 4:44Now, when you dominate like that. Now, Ethan got his first career
- 4:46Yukon shut out. He stopped twenty two. Yeah, on Saturday, but
- 4:51when the shot differential it was like thirty to five in the first period.
- 4:56And what had happened like over the last six seven periods, Like you know,
- 5:00when you make a mistake, it gets magnified, and we saw that
- 5:03in the last couple of games. But that's almost like Ethan has to be
- 5:08even that extra sharp because he's not getting that many opportunities and he has to
- 5:11really focus when he has to play. That's tough for you know, that
- 5:14can be it's really tough. And you know what happened to our sinny on
- 5:18Friday night. We're playing so well, you know, as I alluded to,
- 5:23we outshot him eighteen to five in that third period, but one of
- 5:26the shots, like you're pressing and you're trying to make something happen, and
- 5:29they get a breakaway. And it's hard to play that way when you're not
- 5:31seeing any shots and all of a sudden they get a breakaway. But he,
- 5:35you know, to Ethan's credit, he stayed focused and when they did
- 5:41get a couple of chances, he smothered pucks, He killed plays and really
- 5:45didn't allow many second and third opportunities. Did he have to make any big
- 5:47saves? He did. He had to make a couple. Yeah, you
- 5:50had to make a couple of big saves. And listen, every game you're
- 5:54going to have to make a couple of saves. That's why you have a
- 5:57goalie. And he made those and the routine ones were easy for him.
- 6:02You know, I think real good goaltenders you don't see a lot of rebounds.
- 6:08They eat pucks and point shots get caught or directed to the corner or
- 6:14just smothered, and he did an excellent job of that on Saturday. Good.
- 6:16All right, we'll come back. We'll get a little more in depth
- 6:18in the Union series and we'll get into some of the individuals as we continue.
- 6:23We're live at Bear Smokehouse Barbecue. Ryan Mashey and Thomasineout are our player
- 6:28interviews that I recorded earlier this morning. As you're listening to the Yukon Hockey
