The Season with Peter Schrager: Actor/Comedian Hank Azaria · NFL explained.

0:07
Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schreeger is a production of the
0:09
Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, Everybody, Welcome to
0:24
Speaker 1: the Season with Peter Schreger. We are in the beginning
0:27
Speaker 1: of June, so you might say not much football going on,
0:30
Speaker 1: but there is. The Chiefs are at the White House
0:34
Speaker 1: as we speak. DeAndre Hopkins is a free agent as
0:37
Speaker 1: we speak. Dalvin Cook is potentially going to be moving
0:41
Speaker 1: but yet is still a Minnesota Viking as we speak.
0:44
Speaker 1: But I had a really cool weekend and an opportunity
0:46
Speaker 1: to speak with two of the biggest stars in the NFL,
0:49
Speaker 1: amongst many other stars, some of them being previous guests
0:53
Speaker 1: on this very podcast. So a couple of years back,
0:57
Speaker 1: when I became pretty close with Paul Rudd, who we've
0:59
Speaker 1: had on the show, he invited me to come to
1:02
Speaker 1: an event held every year in Kansas City called the
1:05
Speaker 1: Big Slick Case, and I saw it as a cool
1:08
Speaker 1: opportunity to play in a celebrity softball game. I've never
1:11
Speaker 1: been invited to do anything like that. I've never considered
1:13
Speaker 1: myself a celebrity. I said that'd be neat. What I
1:16
Speaker 1: didn't realize is that it's one of the coolest I
1:22
Speaker 1: guess impactful weekends of the year for me, And every
1:26
Speaker 1: year it hits me in a different way. And it's
1:27
Speaker 1: because they use all the money and they raise all
1:30
Speaker 1: the awareness and they do this amazing auction and they
1:33
Speaker 1: sell tickets to an amazing show and it all goes
1:35
Speaker 1: to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. And on Saturday
1:39
Speaker 1: morning of the weekend, you visit the hospital and what
1:42
Speaker 1: you're meeting is just right in your face, and it's
1:45
Speaker 1: kids who are coping with cancer and you're visiting with them,
1:49
Speaker 1: going room to room. And in your groups, you're with
1:53
Speaker 1: some of the biggest entertainers in the world, but you're
1:54
Speaker 1: also with some amazing athletes and just people that have
1:59
Speaker 1: rare skills that can make a kid's day. So in
2:02
Speaker 1: my group, Heidi Gardner, who is on SNL and it's
2:07
Speaker 1: one of the main organizers of the group. We did
2:09
Speaker 1: it last year together. She's just amazing. This comedian Sarah Tiana,
2:14
Speaker 1: who you've probably seen before. She's hilarious. She was awesome
2:17
Speaker 1: and was so good with the kids. And these two
2:19
Speaker 1: twin brothers, the Potash Twins, who if you don't know
2:22
Speaker 1: their work, they one of them plays Oh, I'm gonna
2:24
Speaker 1: get them. One one plays trumpet, maybe they both play trumpet.
2:28
Speaker 1: The other one plays what's hey, Aaron, you're listening, what's
2:30
Speaker 1: the slide? One the trombone. Yeah, yeah, that's probably not
2:34
Speaker 1: a great gift to go out there. Adieve is trumpet,
2:38
Speaker 1: Ezra is the trombone. These kids are awesome. They're like
2:41
Speaker 1: thirty from Omaha, Nebraska to Twin Brothers, and they've performed
2:46
Speaker 1: with everybody in like jazz and in that world but all.
2:51
Speaker 1: They've also been featured on countless different They've worked with Drake,
2:56
Speaker 1: They've worked with Flow Rider, They've worked with just about everybody.
2:59
Speaker 1: And they used to be in like John Baptiste's opening band,
3:02
Speaker 1: like just and so we'd go around and we're meeting
3:04
Speaker 1: with these kids and it's life changing for me. Its unelievable.
3:06
Speaker 1: It's a smack in the face. I just had a kid.
3:09
Speaker 1: You see what these parents are going through, You see
3:11
Speaker 1: what these nurses and doctors do, and most partly see
3:13
Speaker 1: what these kids are going through. So over the course
3:15
Speaker 1: of the weekend, with various auction items and selling tickets,
3:19
Speaker 1: we raised more than three million dollars over three days,
3:23
Speaker 1: which is the coolest thing. You want a list of
3:26
Speaker 1: the celebrities, Okay, I'll go there. So it's Paul Rudd,
3:31
Speaker 1: Jason Sadeikis, Eric stone Street, Rob Wriggle, David Keckner, Heidi Gardner.
3:36
Speaker 1: They organize it, and then I get to know. You're
3:38
Speaker 1: with these people for seventy two hours, really, so you
3:41
Speaker 1: get to know all the other people that come in
3:43
Speaker 1: for it. And I really had a blast, like I'd
3:45
Speaker 1: never met the comedian will Forte before. Aaron will Forte
3:50
Speaker 1: is unbelievable. Obviously, we love them from Saturday Night Live
3:53
Speaker 1: and mcgruber. He's a Raiders fan, he loves football, He's made.
3:56
Speaker 1: How about this kid? And I sound so old and
3:59
Speaker 1: so like, you know, not not out of my waters here,
4:01
Speaker 1: but Finn Wolhard or wolf Hard? How am far? He's
4:06
Speaker 1: from Hard Stranger Things in the Ghostbusters with Rudd. I
4:11
Speaker 1: talked to him for an hour about the Seahawks. This
4:13
Speaker 1: dude is an incredibly talented actor but also a musician
4:17
Speaker 1: and knows his Seahawks inside and out because he was
4:19
Speaker 1: from Vancouver and he loves football. You go down the
4:22
Speaker 1: list here, you know Bobby Knavali, Joe Latriglia, you know,
4:27
Speaker 1: Dylan Baker. These are these are like legends that I've
4:30
Speaker 1: been watching for years and they're all hanging. And then
4:32
Speaker 1: i meet weird Al Yankovich, who I'm like, all right,
4:36
Speaker 1: weird Ayankovitch is a childhood I would say, not hero,
4:40
Speaker 1: but like my brother and I would listen to weird
4:42
Speaker 1: Al every album, no, every track, Like this is before
4:46
Speaker 1: Sandler did his cdsbably probably after like Steve Martin and
4:50
Speaker 1: his you know CDs and uh, you know, long after
4:54
Speaker 1: Bob Newhart and his stuff, but like the Weird Al albums,
4:57
Speaker 1: like I could tell you thirty songs by heart that
4:59
Speaker 1: I used to love. And you're talking and I'm like,
5:01
Speaker 1: do I call you weird Al or do I call
5:03
Speaker 1: you Al? He's like, just call me Al and he's awesome.
5:06
Speaker 1: He's awesome. And then obviously you know the the Grand
5:10
Speaker 1: Pumba two big showcase items where Kelsey and Mahomes who
5:15
Speaker 1: Aaron I got to hang out with Kelsey and Mahomes
5:17
Speaker 1: for hours at a time in like an intimate setting,
5:20
Speaker 1: and they're unbelievable. They're awesome guys. And it's funny because
5:24
Speaker 1: Mahomes and again, we're always cognizant of the aggregators. I
5:27
Speaker 1: don't know where this story will go. Mahomes and I
5:29
Speaker 1: are talking ball for a while, and then we're talking,
5:32
Speaker 1: you know, stuff that's probably not for air, about the
5:33
Speaker 1: chiefs and what's going on in that organization and what
5:36
Speaker 1: they're what what young players he's excited for, and you know,
5:39
Speaker 1: then I get to you know, the other people in
5:41
Speaker 1: the room, and you know, I weird Awl's there and
5:44
Speaker 1: I'm like, you obviously love weird Al Yankovic. And He's like, you,
5:48
Speaker 1: I know, I recognize the name, or I'm not familiar
5:50
Speaker 1: with it. I'm like, oh, like that. I'm an old
5:53
Speaker 1: I'm an old if you you know, I'm an old man.
5:56
Speaker 1: Mahomes was born in the nineties. He has no feel
5:58
Speaker 1: for weird Al Yankovic. Then we're on stage and I'm
6:02
Speaker 1: sitting next to Mahomes and it's cool how the setup is.
6:04
Speaker 1: There's all these different performers, so over the course of
6:06
Speaker 1: the now this guy Logan Miz who's a country singer
6:09
Speaker 1: and is awesome, just a great dude. David Cook from
6:12
Speaker 1: American Idol, Chris Daughtry from American Idol, Darius Rucker from
6:17
Speaker 1: Hoody and the Blosh, of Moffish mal but currently one
6:19
Speaker 1: of the biggest acts in country obviously and the singer
6:23
Speaker 1: of Wagon Wheel. He's there, but in the middle of
6:26
Speaker 1: it is weird Al, and weird House steals the show.
6:28
Speaker 1: Weird Alse steals the show, and I'm sitting next to
6:30
Speaker 1: Mahomes and I'm like, you get it now. He's like, Oh,
6:32
Speaker 1: this guy's amazing, this guy's unbelievable, And I just love
6:35
Speaker 1: the idea of like me introducing Patrick Mahomes to weird
6:38
Speaker 1: Al Yankovic. Like there in in the craziest mad libs
6:43
Speaker 1: of a celebrity film in the blank, World's Greatest football
6:46
Speaker 1: player unfamiliar with weird Al Yankovich, and Peter Schrager is
6:49
Speaker 1: showing him the ropes and teaching him about songs like
6:52
Speaker 1: eat It and Uh I Lost in I Lost in
6:55
Speaker 1: Jeopardy Great Songs. Anyway, weird A Yankovitch was amazing. Uh
6:59
Speaker 1: go down the listen more. Jake Tapper from CNN and
7:01
Speaker 1: Earon met him, but I've been seeing on my TV
7:03
Speaker 1: for years diehard Eagles fan. Great dude.
7:06
Speaker 2: All right.
7:07
Speaker 1: Sean Evans, the host of Hot Ones, we did this
7:10
Speaker 1: together last year. We became friends. We text all the time.
7:13
Speaker 1: I think Shawn and I might be just like the
7:15
Speaker 1: same person, just except Sean does his celebrity interviews and
7:18
Speaker 1: I do mine in football. We have the same likes,
7:21
Speaker 1: the same everything. And then our VENN diagram that's completely
7:24
Speaker 1: shaded is a gentleman named Richard Christy. Aaron, Does Richard
7:28
Speaker 1: Christie's name mean anything to you?
7:30
Speaker 2: Not at all?
7:31
Speaker 1: Okay, so I'm not shocked. Richard Christy. I would say
7:36
Speaker 1: he's a staff member slash whack pack member, slash the
7:40
Speaker 1: greatest prank phone caller in the history of time from
7:44
Speaker 1: the Howard Stern Show. And Richard has a long library
7:49
Speaker 1: of disgusting bits and stuff that I wouldn't feel comfortable
7:52
Speaker 1: even sharing on this iHeart podcast that has made me
7:55
Speaker 1: cry over the years, and just how disgusting his bits are,
7:59
Speaker 1: and yet he's also the most genius prank call magician,
8:04
Speaker 1: maybe since the Jerky Boys. So Richard CHRISTI, Sean and
8:08
Speaker 1: I sat with Richard Christie on Friday night as we're
8:12
Speaker 1: having a few cocktails slash a dozen beers, and he's
8:16
Speaker 1: going through his greatest prank calls and his inspirations and
8:20
Speaker 1: how they come about. And I could do a documentary
8:23
Speaker 1: on like the the the nucleus of a great prank
8:27
Speaker 1: phone call, and Richard Christi, of course is the master
8:29
Speaker 1: of them all. And Sean and I are just like,
8:32
Speaker 1: you know, at his on his knee, like listening like
8:34
Speaker 1: two kids at like at the campfire to like a
8:37
Speaker 1: great mentor teaching us the ropes. Shawn Evans is I
8:41
Speaker 1: think I've said this, uh, and I'm not looking to
8:44
Speaker 1: be on a show. I love this because he was
8:46
Speaker 1: telling me that, like people like pitch themselves on a
8:48
Speaker 1: show and they're not. They're not necessarily a list and
8:50
Speaker 1: it's always a very awkward conversation. And I'm like, I'm
8:52
Speaker 1: so glad I've never like pitching myself too. I think
8:56
Speaker 1: it goes like for me personally, Howard Stern as far
9:00
Speaker 1: as celebrity interviewer goes Letterman because he was so off
9:05
Speaker 1: kilter in his ways. He didn't like worship the guests.
9:10
Speaker 1: I really do you know. I think Mark Marin's a
9:12
Speaker 1: great celebrity interviewer, as much as people want to knock
9:15
Speaker 1: him in some of his own you know, whatever it
9:18
Speaker 1: is in his way about going it. And then I
9:19
Speaker 1: think it's Sean Evans for this generation and if you're
9:22
Speaker 1: not familiar with hot ones, it's so hard to explain.
9:24
Speaker 1: Like Jason mccordy wasn't familiar with it, so I started
9:26
Speaker 1: to explain it to him today on Good Morning Football
9:28
Speaker 1: off camera, and I'm like, so, there's a gimmick, And
9:31
Speaker 1: the gimmick is there's ten hot wings and you're asking
9:34
Speaker 1: ten questions as you eat wings that get increasingly hotter
9:38
Speaker 1: and hotter and hotter, and by the end the interviewee
9:40
Speaker 1: is sweating and they're all out of sorts and like,
9:43
Speaker 1: and he's like, oh, it's kind of like that like
9:45
Speaker 1: Potato Chip Hot Chip Challenge. I'm like, I hate that.
9:48
Speaker 1: It's like limit, Aaron, You've watched all the hot ones, right, he's.
9:52
Speaker 3: An encouraged not all of them, but yeah, I've.
9:55
Speaker 1: Seen but like most of them.
9:56
Speaker 2: Right.
9:56
Speaker 1: Like, first of all, I would say this hot Ones
10:00
Speaker 1: is the equivalent now of like being on the cover
10:03
Speaker 1: of GQ magazine or Sanity Fair in the two early
10:08
Speaker 1: two thousands, or like, you know, the cover of Esquire
10:11
Speaker 1: there's a spread, there's an art of Vogue. Like those
10:14
Speaker 1: don't really exist in the same way these. No one's
10:16
Speaker 1: like buying you know, Vogue to read the Big Interview
10:18
Speaker 1: anymore or buying GQ to read the Big Interview. But
10:21
Speaker 1: back when I was starting off as a writer, like
10:23
Speaker 1: you do one celebrity profile when you're promoting a movie,
10:26
Speaker 1: and you do it with one of these men's magazines,
10:27
Speaker 1: and that's just what it would be, and you do
10:29
Speaker 1: it and then you get the access to it. That's
10:31
Speaker 1: what Sean Evans' show is now. I mean this week
10:34
Speaker 1: I just looked he got Julia Louis Dreyfus, So I
10:35
Speaker 1: don't see doing a ton of you know, last week
10:38
Speaker 1: with Sadeikis as ted LASO was doing their finale, he
10:40
Speaker 1: had Paul Rudd, obviously, Matt Damon, Jake Jonhall, and like
10:44
Speaker 1: they're the greatest interviews. They're the greatest interviews we've got
10:47
Speaker 1: right now. And I'm not, you know, at all advertising
10:50
Speaker 1: or doing commercial but to hang with Sean, like he's cool,
10:53
Speaker 1: he's a cool dude, and that event, the Big Slick
10:56
Speaker 1: is a great opportunity to get to know people like
10:58
Speaker 1: this and oh, by the way, diehard Bears fan who
11:02
Speaker 1: is all in on Justin Fields and it's Buddy Nick
11:05
Speaker 1: who he brought as his guest, and we were hanging
11:08
Speaker 1: the whole time. He's a diehard Bears fan who's all
11:10
Speaker 1: in on Justin Fields. And if the two of them
11:13
Speaker 1: are at all symbolic of Bears fans right now, we
11:17
Speaker 1: might as well cancel the season and just have the
11:19
Speaker 1: parade and put the gold jacket on Justin Darnfields. Like
11:22
Speaker 1: the amount of Bears fans who I did a list of,
11:25
Speaker 1: like breakout players or something, and on the show I
11:28
Speaker 1: didn't put Justin feel like the Justin Fields hype is
11:32
Speaker 1: out of control right now, and maybe I'm proven wrong,
11:35
Speaker 1: And then I'm saying, let's temper it for a second.
11:37
Speaker 1: Long story, short Seaan Evans, diehard Bears fan, knows his
11:40
Speaker 1: stuff and big Seleck. They as a whole raised three
11:46
Speaker 1: million dollars this weekend, but over the course of fourteen
11:48
Speaker 1: years have raised twenty one million dollars for a children's hospital.
11:53
Speaker 1: Real quick, before we get to our guest, I will
11:55
Speaker 1: tell you that Patrick Mahomes made the greatest play I've
11:57
Speaker 1: ever seen in a baseball, softball t ball game. And
12:02
Speaker 1: he did it. And let me set the context for you.
12:04
Speaker 1: You've got all these actors and comedians and like you know,
12:09
Speaker 1: there's a couple guys who might have played college athletics
12:12
Speaker 1: at some point. There's a few who maybe play in
12:15
Speaker 1: a men's softball league. Patrick Mahomes will be the greatest
12:18
Speaker 1: athlete living right now. So it's a bunch of third
12:21
Speaker 1: theater nerds more or less, and Patrick Mahomes playing softball,
12:24
Speaker 1: so you think he would take it easy. Mahomes hit
12:27
Speaker 1: a home run. Didn't have to do that to show
12:28
Speaker 1: everybody up, but he did. And then there was a
12:31
Speaker 1: ground ball. The ball, I want to say, was hit
12:34
Speaker 1: by Eric stone Street, who we've had on the show
12:36
Speaker 1: and is just a lovely guy and great ambassador for
12:39
Speaker 1: Kansas City and the Big Slick. It's a dribbler to
12:41
Speaker 1: third base. Mahomes picks it up, throws a softball behind
12:47
Speaker 1: the back from the third base line to first base,
12:50
Speaker 1: where I believe Bobby Countavalli, the actor was playing first base.
12:54
Speaker 1: Throws it on a rope and you can google this,
12:57
Speaker 1: you can look for it online right now. Mahomes throws
13:00
Speaker 1: it perfectly, and it's a behind the back flip ninety
13:03
Speaker 1: yards whatever, ninety feet whatever it is from third base
13:07
Speaker 1: to first it's on a rope. He throws out stone
13:09
Speaker 1: Street and everyone's just like, oh, Mahomes. It's insane. It
13:13
Speaker 1: is an insane athletic play. I've never seen more. Imagine
13:16
Speaker 1: throwing a softball. Softball is not a baseball softball behind
13:20
Speaker 1: your back, ninety feet, sixty feet whatever, third to first
13:24
Speaker 1: is on a rope. And he did that. And so
13:26
Speaker 1: after the night. Next night we're hanging out backstage and
13:29
Speaker 1: I got a lot of time with Patrick. He was cool,
13:31
Speaker 1: and I was like, I'm like, you realize you didn't.
13:34
Speaker 1: You didn't look like you pick up the ball and
13:36
Speaker 1: in one motion you'd throw it like that's an insane
13:38
Speaker 1: thing to do athletically. It's it's just not normal. And
13:41
Speaker 1: he's like, and I'm gonna do my Mahomes voice was like,
13:43
Speaker 1: h you know, if I if I you know, if
13:46
Speaker 1: I threw it until the stands, we would all laughed
13:48
Speaker 1: about it. So I figure, why not I went for it? Yeah, yeah,
13:50
Speaker 1: why not? I went for it as if, as if
13:52
Speaker 1: it's the easiest thing. Like in one hundred tries, I
13:55
Speaker 1: could not have done what Mahomes did with that flipper
13:58
Speaker 1: over behind the back, and yet he nails it. He
14:01
Speaker 1: throws him out. Mahomes and Kelsey hung for like five
14:05
Speaker 1: hours on Saturday, night and they were just great. Kelsey
14:08
Speaker 1: did Hot Ones Challenge. He was sweating his face off
14:12
Speaker 1: and just eating the hottest wings. And I can't say
14:15
Speaker 1: enough about those two guys. What great ambassadors for the sport.
14:17
Speaker 1: Two awesome young men, and I had an amazing weekend. Myhomes
14:21
Speaker 1: had a good point. We were talking for a while again,
14:23
Speaker 1: I feel like I'm his you know, biographer at this point,
14:25
Speaker 1: because we hung out one night. He's like, I'm not
14:27
Speaker 1: sure this could work in LA or New York or
14:31
Speaker 1: Kansas City. Special. You've got a this great celebrity corps
14:34
Speaker 1: that these guys all love to give back, but also
14:37
Speaker 1: like the city really really really you know, rallies around
14:42
Speaker 1: causes like this, and for they sold out an arena
14:46
Speaker 1: for this Saturday night event and for all these different celebrities.
14:48
Speaker 1: Darius Rutger was on a we do the thing and
14:51
Speaker 1: there's like a little post party, and post party went
14:54
Speaker 1: longer for others than they did for me. And I
14:56
Speaker 1: take the elevator down for the post party with Darius Rucker,
14:59
Speaker 1: who I'm like, oh my god, Like I'm in an
15:00
Speaker 1: elevator just you know, me and him and his guys
15:02
Speaker 1: from his band and I'm like, I'm going to bed.
15:05
Speaker 1: What are you doing? And he's like, Oh, we're hopping
15:08
Speaker 1: in the tour bus. We've got to show in Nashville tomorrow,
15:10
Speaker 1: like for him on his one night off to be
15:12
Speaker 1: in Kansas City. But that's kind of what Kansas City
15:16
Speaker 1: is that it attracts these people to come and those
15:18
Speaker 1: fans are amazing. So as I go on and on
15:21
Speaker 1: about why the Kansas City Chiefs fans are the greatest
15:23
Speaker 1: thing and why Kansas City is most amazing city, I
15:25
Speaker 1: record this from New York City, where I would never
15:27
Speaker 1: leave in a million years if I didn't have to,
15:29
Speaker 1: because I'm a New Yorker. But if there's a second
15:31
Speaker 1: city I can say I can call a home. In
15:34
Speaker 1: a weird way, I do love that Kansas City, Missouri.
15:37
Speaker 1: All right, we've got an awesome guest. I'm so excited
15:39
Speaker 1: for it. I've got a backstory. I'll share it with
15:41
Speaker 1: you once we get him on. But right after this,
15:43
Speaker 1: one of the icons of comedy and acting over the
15:46
Speaker 1: last thirty to forty years and truly an awesome dude,
15:50
Speaker 1: the Great Hanka's Area joins us after this. As I
15:57
Speaker 1: said in the monologue, I've been a fan of this
15:59
Speaker 1: man for many, many years. You know, I'm from the Simpsons,
16:02
Speaker 1: from the Bird Cage. And now he's got this new
16:04
Speaker 1: amazing program on HBO called The Idol, which I want
16:08
Speaker 1: to hear all about. But more than anything, I just
16:10
Speaker 1: want to geek out with him because's a New York
16:11
Speaker 1: sports fan. Hank Azariel, Welcome to the season with Peter Scheger.
16:15
Speaker 2: Thank you, Peter. Very happy to be here.
16:17
Speaker 4: I've told you in person and now through zoom and
16:20
Speaker 4: now and for everybody. I'm a big fan of yours,
16:22
Speaker 4: so I'm excited to join you as a sports fan
16:25
Speaker 4: and just as just as a human.
16:26
Speaker 2: Being as well.
16:27
Speaker 1: I am a great purveyor of pop culture and sports.
16:31
Speaker 1: So can I share where we saw each other In
16:34
Speaker 1: the most amazing of situations. I'm jogging, so if you
16:38
Speaker 1: know me and you see me, I'm not in shape.
16:40
Speaker 1: I'm trying to get in shape. So I was jogging
16:42
Speaker 1: one morning, like putting on a farce that I'm gonna
16:44
Speaker 1: suddenly be the guy who runs around Brooklyn Heights. And
16:47
Speaker 1: I'm running and out of the corner of my eye
16:50
Speaker 1: I see Hanka's area and I'm like it was eight
16:51
Speaker 1: in the morning, and I'm like, this is unbelievable. I
16:54
Speaker 1: love this guy. Do I stop? Do I keep on
16:55
Speaker 1: going and listen to my Mark Maren podcast as I'm
16:57
Speaker 1: running around the block, or do I just And then
17:01
Speaker 1: Hank gives me the nod. I'm like, I gotta stop.
17:03
Speaker 1: We had an awesome short conversation. But I even know
17:06
Speaker 1: you lived New York. I love the fact you're in
17:07
Speaker 1: New Yorker.
17:08
Speaker 4: I grew up in Queen's moved back here ten years ago.
17:11
Speaker 4: I had seen you a little before, just from a distance,
17:13
Speaker 4: at the Nick gad one of the Nick playoff games,
17:16
Speaker 4: one that they won. So yeah, I've been you know,
17:19
Speaker 4: I know, I know you anywhere. I've been a fan
17:21
Speaker 4: for a long time.
17:22
Speaker 1: The next thing was cool because Joe Shane, the GM
17:24
Speaker 1: of the Giants, was there and he was sitting I
17:27
Speaker 1: guess a row in front of you. And I go
17:28
Speaker 1: and say hi to Joe, and Mike Breen starts coming
17:31
Speaker 1: up from the stands and I think Mike Breen's making
17:33
Speaker 1: a gesture to say hi to me, and I was
17:35
Speaker 1: about to geek out. He blows right past me and
17:37
Speaker 1: I look behind me and there's Hanka's area that Mike
17:39
Speaker 1: Breen is saying hello to him, like, all right, that's humbling,
17:41
Speaker 1: that's fun.
17:42
Speaker 4: I love Mike Green also, I've been chatting with him
17:45
Speaker 4: for years at nick Games and elsewhere.
17:47
Speaker 1: Awesome voice. The move to New York. You were in
17:50
Speaker 1: California for years, I'm sure because I'm raising a kid
17:53
Speaker 1: in New York now too, and it's a fight every day,
17:55
Speaker 1: and yet I've tried to grit it out, like why
17:58
Speaker 1: did you move back to New York from LA after
18:00
Speaker 1: all those years?
18:01
Speaker 2: One of the reasons was you mentioned kids.
18:03
Speaker 4: I really didn't want to raise my son in the
18:06
Speaker 4: to show business, which you can't avoid in Los Angeles,
18:10
Speaker 4: There's just no way. So I wanted him to have
18:13
Speaker 4: a more eclectic, a more varied look at humanity.
18:19
Speaker 2: Than just through the lens of people who work in
18:21
Speaker 2: show business.
18:21
Speaker 4: Yeah there's anything wrong with those people, but it's really
18:24
Speaker 4: only one province heard from.
18:26
Speaker 2: And this sounds like a joke, and it kind of is.
18:29
Speaker 2: There's only have a joke.
18:30
Speaker 4: I wanted to raise a Mets fan, yes, just so
18:35
Speaker 4: that I have support for this in my old age,
18:38
Speaker 4: and even in doing that, and it's worked. I have
18:40
Speaker 4: a Mets fan. He's about to be fourteen tomorrow. In fact,
18:43
Speaker 4: oh congrats, I'd say twice a year though all through
18:46
Speaker 4: his childhood he has come to me very earnestly and said, Dad,
18:50
Speaker 4: are you sure.
18:51
Speaker 2: We can't be Yankee fans?
18:52
Speaker 1: Yeah?
18:53
Speaker 4: I'm like, it's a very smart question. I don't blame
18:56
Speaker 4: you for asking it, but no, sadly we can't.
18:59
Speaker 1: Yeah. I love that. And the Mets this year, everyone
19:02
Speaker 1: picking him before the season to win the World Series.
19:04
Speaker 1: They actually got hot again. But it's so funny. I'm like, oh,
19:06
Speaker 1: my Mets, are you guys seriously buying in?
19:07
Speaker 2: I mean, you know.
19:08
Speaker 1: Something assure enough. They start the season just a million
19:10
Speaker 1: things go wrong, But that's the life and the ethos
19:13
Speaker 1: of being a metsvan.
19:14
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm Mets Jets nick. So I hear it from
19:16
Speaker 4: three corner. I'm getting it from my friends now about
19:19
Speaker 4: the Jets. You don't really believe they're canna have a
19:22
Speaker 4: good season, do you. It's like, well, that part of
19:25
Speaker 4: being Jets Mets nicks, as you have hope to start
19:27
Speaker 4: out and then you get destroyed totally.
19:30
Speaker 1: And the Jets thing is unbelievable. I mean, he's doing
19:33
Speaker 1: everything right. You and I live in New York, like
19:36
Speaker 1: he's doing it. It's almost like, if I can go
19:38
Speaker 1: back to my younger self, how would I have done this?
19:41
Speaker 1: Rogers is thirty nine, so he can see the script before.
19:44
Speaker 1: He's wiser than some of the other young quarterbacks. He's
19:46
Speaker 1: wiser than some of these other Jets rookies that have
19:48
Speaker 1: come in where he knows little gestures, going to the
19:51
Speaker 1: next game at the Garden, taking a young star like
19:54
Speaker 1: sauce with him, going to the Rangers game, going to
19:57
Speaker 1: Taylor Swift a couple of nights, just being present. It
20:00
Speaker 1: goes such a long way to be like I am
20:02
Speaker 1: for Aaron Rodgers to be like I am proud to
20:03
Speaker 1: be a New York Jet. It is I mean, Jets
20:06
Speaker 1: fans are over the moon right now just actually having
20:08
Speaker 1: a reason to be proud and excited.
20:10
Speaker 4: Well, yes, one, it would be hard. It would be
20:13
Speaker 4: very difficult not to be wiser than many of the
20:15
Speaker 4: Jets rookies who have come in. That's a very low bar.
20:18
Speaker 4: But my cynical friend points out, like, yeah, and the
20:21
Speaker 4: camera's been there every time he's done a thing.
20:24
Speaker 1: That's the Giants fans talking. That's what the Giants fans
20:26
Speaker 1: are saying. Like enough can he go into public without
20:29
Speaker 1: having you know, a million cameras around a hilarious but
20:32
Speaker 1: you know, honestly, I.
20:33
Speaker 2: Was against the Rogers thing, adamantly talk about it. I
20:37
Speaker 2: did not.
20:37
Speaker 4: I think he gotta get you know, because I know
20:40
Speaker 4: from Diva energy coming into situation, you don't want it.
20:44
Speaker 2: See it's a deal with the devil. You don't want
20:46
Speaker 2: to do it.
20:47
Speaker 4: They have nice chemistry in that locker room. They need
20:49
Speaker 4: a mench I was all I was on the car train. No,
20:54
Speaker 4: no weird pun intended there, but I thought that, you know,
20:57
Speaker 4: that's I think that car I still think I don't
20:59
Speaker 4: know how I'll do in New Orleans, but I think
21:01
Speaker 4: he was the change of scenery is going to really help.
21:04
Speaker 2: Him, and I think he was about to raise his game.
21:06
Speaker 4: And I saw nothing but misery and problems from Aaron
21:10
Speaker 4: if we even got them, you know, which was not
21:14
Speaker 4: a slam dunk at all. But now I gotta say,
21:18
Speaker 4: I mean, I do admit that for one or two
21:20
Speaker 4: seasons it's a bigger swing. There's a lower floor because
21:25
Speaker 4: so many crazy things can go wrong, but it is
21:29
Speaker 4: definitely a higher ceiling and he is doing all the
21:32
Speaker 4: right things. And now I'm kind of psyched to see
21:34
Speaker 4: he seems revitalized.
21:36
Speaker 2: He just seems psyched.
21:37
Speaker 1: He went he goes to the I mean he go
21:39
Speaker 1: to Ota in the last few years. Yeah, the Packers.
21:41
Speaker 1: He's there, he's president. And then we had a great story.
21:45
Speaker 1: Zonovan Knight, who's one of the running backs, told us
21:47
Speaker 1: a great story on Good Morning Football last week that
21:49
Speaker 1: you know, they're in the running backs room, which is
21:51
Speaker 1: such a you know, it's only five guys and it's
21:53
Speaker 1: a running backs coach and Hacket's going through the offense
21:55
Speaker 1: and it's in a dark room and they're talking about
21:57
Speaker 1: some play and it's just the running backs. And then
21:59
Speaker 1: in the back of the room, without them knowing it,
22:01
Speaker 1: a voice pops in, like the voice of God, and
22:03
Speaker 1: it's like, actually, Hackett, I think we should do this,
22:05
Speaker 1: this and this, And it was Rogers just like over
22:07
Speaker 1: listening like the running backs room, just wanting to lend
22:09
Speaker 1: a hand to like teach the offense. And you hear
22:11
Speaker 1: that and you're like heart melts. You're like, yes, that's
22:12
Speaker 1: what we've been waiting for.
22:13
Speaker 4: That's you know, my main problem with him, apart from
22:16
Speaker 4: you know, immunization, word games and Joe Rogan appearances and
22:22
Speaker 4: just weird stuff. Was that like last season? And finally
22:27
Speaker 4: I think you said it, and not too many people did,
22:30
Speaker 4: but I was wondering why more people didn't.
22:32
Speaker 2: It was like the dude wouldn't get with his receivers.
22:35
Speaker 2: Last year, they didn't gel till Week nine.
22:37
Speaker 4: They probably would have made a playoff run if he
22:40
Speaker 4: bothered in the office.
22:41
Speaker 1: They started clicking later on in the year because he
22:44
Speaker 1: wasn't with these young guys the first, you know, not to.
22:46
Speaker 4: Mention if you noticed his first game or two, which
22:49
Speaker 4: I'm sure you did, Peter, I mean throws to who
22:51
Speaker 4: is this good Watson? Judiam once got kid, dropped it,
22:56
Speaker 4: rolled his eyes and throwed him again for two weeks.
22:58
Speaker 2: Come on, kind of parenting is this? So?
23:03
Speaker 4: I just hated that, you know, but it doesn't seem
23:06
Speaker 4: like he's doing that.
23:07
Speaker 2: I think he needed to change his scenery worse than
23:09
Speaker 2: Derek Carr.
23:10
Speaker 1: No, totally, and you know Derek Carr when they were
23:13
Speaker 1: meeting with him. I too, I said it on Good
23:15
Speaker 1: Morning Football. I said it at the combine. I'm like,
23:17
Speaker 1: he's an adult in the room, he's got four kids.
23:20
Speaker 1: He's not going to embarrass your franchise. In any way.
23:22
Speaker 1: He's not going to do anything out of school, and
23:23
Speaker 1: like he'll come and he'll be a complete professional and
23:26
Speaker 1: he'll be what the Jets probably needed at quarterback and
23:29
Speaker 1: upgrade an adult in the room. Rogers was a huge
23:31
Speaker 1: home run swing, and I'm with you. At first, I
23:34
Speaker 1: was like Car would have been enough. They have a
23:35
Speaker 1: really good team and Car's fine and he needed to
23:38
Speaker 1: And then you know, I'm just hearing things from the
23:40
Speaker 1: Jets coaches like they are freaking out. This guy. Rodgers
23:43
Speaker 1: has been unbelievable.
23:45
Speaker 4: Well his first press day, just the way he talks
23:48
Speaker 4: about Joe Namath, I gets it.
23:51
Speaker 1: Hello, And it's not hard to attract the Jet fan.
23:55
Speaker 1: Like I'm not saying that he's patronizing condescending, but like
23:57
Speaker 1: there are some real easy roads to go down to
23:59
Speaker 1: like attract. I want to be here his first and
24:02
Speaker 1: then you start referencing name it and you talk about,
24:04
Speaker 1: you know, all the young talent and how good these
24:06
Speaker 1: guys are. He gets it. That's the thing. I don't
24:08
Speaker 1: think he's playing anybody. I think he's honest and genuine,
24:10
Speaker 1: but he also he knows what to do in this situation.
24:14
Speaker 1: And his pr game has been ten out of ten.
24:16
Speaker 1: Since he got here.
24:17
Speaker 4: To the point where, you know, it feels like God,
24:20
Speaker 4: he should have been here ages ago. Like, right, the
24:22
Speaker 4: guy was kind of made. Who else could step into
24:25
Speaker 4: this media market and be like you No, no, the
24:28
Speaker 4: guy makes news every time he opens his mouth anyway, so.
24:31
Speaker 1: It makes sense, all right. So I'm sitting at home
24:34
Speaker 1: and I'm watching The Succession finale and I'm all wrapped
24:37
Speaker 1: up in Tom Wabm's gams and.
24:38
Speaker 2: What spoilers because I'm about to binge season.
24:41
Speaker 1: I'm not saying a word. I'm not saying a word,
24:43
Speaker 1: all right. You know there's a character named Tom Wams gams.
24:46
Speaker 1: I know that's all it is. And there's a promo
24:49
Speaker 1: for this show, The Idol, and I'm like, this looks interesting.
24:54
Speaker 1: The weekend is in it, and I want to say,
24:57
Speaker 1: Lily Rose Depp, who is Johnny Depp's daughter? Is it this?
25:00
Speaker 1: I'm like, and there your head, your face pops up
25:03
Speaker 1: doing an accent. I go, what is Hank's love? I
25:05
Speaker 1: love Hank's What is this show? And I haven't seen
25:08
Speaker 1: it yet? Only one episode is aired, but everyone's texting
25:10
Speaker 1: me like, have you seen The Idol yet? It's awesome.
25:12
Speaker 1: Have you seen it yet?
25:13
Speaker 3: So?
25:13
Speaker 1: What is this show and what is your role on
25:15
Speaker 1: the program?
25:16
Speaker 2: I play and it was an Israeli accent to her.
25:19
Speaker 2: I play again named Ram, who is the manager of
25:25
Speaker 2: Lily Rose.
25:25
Speaker 5: Deb's character named Jocelyne, kind of a you know, a
25:30
Speaker 5: pop eyed, a troubled pop idol, you know of the
25:34
Speaker 5: shall we say, maybe the Britney Spears moment, and she's
25:39
Speaker 5: in the middle of a bit of a personal and
25:41
Speaker 5: professional crisis. As the story picks up, gets involved with
25:46
Speaker 5: this Weekend character.
25:48
Speaker 4: He's really good. He plays this like Sico club owner
25:52
Speaker 4: the Weekend does want to a producer who They strike
25:56
Speaker 4: up this pretty intense physical emotional relationship pretty quickly, and
26:02
Speaker 4: he starts moving in on our life, and me and
26:06
Speaker 4: the team of folks who make a lot of money
26:08
Speaker 4: off her aren't too thrilled. Yeah, And I actually my
26:13
Speaker 4: character really loves her like a daughter found her when
26:16
Speaker 4: she was eleven performing a ball in the valley and
26:20
Speaker 4: took her through like the whole Disney thing, and then she,
26:23
Speaker 4: you know, her first album went huge, and so it's
26:27
Speaker 4: really kind of a voyeuristic window into the music industry.
26:32
Speaker 1: And Dan Levy, who we loved in Shit's Creek, Key's
26:34
Speaker 1: I believe the agent.
26:35
Speaker 2: What's his role in ex He's a publicist?
26:38
Speaker 1: Perfect.
26:39
Speaker 2: Yeah.
26:39
Speaker 1: And it's created by Sam Levinson, who did Euphoria, right.
26:44
Speaker 4: Sam Levinson, who does the does Euphoria. Euphoria is an
26:49
Speaker 4: amazingly great show. But every parent's nightmare that show.
26:53
Speaker 1: I have not seen it, and everyone's like, if you
26:54
Speaker 1: ever have a daughter, do not or son go down
26:57
Speaker 1: that road? Or son? Okay, yeah, I.
26:59
Speaker 4: Mean look, that's why I didn't. I'd worked with Sam
27:02
Speaker 4: is Barry Levins and son Legendarya Barry Levitz. I worked
27:05
Speaker 4: with them a few years ago on an HBO film
27:09
Speaker 4: called The Wizard.
27:09
Speaker 2: Of Lies, doing de Niro as Bernie Madoff.
27:13
Speaker 1: It was great. I remember it.
27:15
Speaker 4: He was good and got along well with Sam. Then
27:19
Speaker 4: he called me about this. I was like, sure, this
27:23
Speaker 4: sounds amazing, but I didn't even realize that Sam had
27:26
Speaker 4: done Euphoria. And then I started working with Sam and
27:29
Speaker 4: loving him, trying to make a sports analogy to Sam. Sam,
27:35
Speaker 4: he's a genuine filmmaker, like when there aren't too many
27:38
Speaker 4: around anymore, writer, director, with a real vision. He would
27:43
Speaker 4: be like somebody to make an NFL comparison like innovating
27:48
Speaker 4: an offense, like somebody bringing in the next version of
27:50
Speaker 4: an offense. You know, I haven't been with somebody like
27:54
Speaker 4: that in a long time, and you noticed it right over.
27:56
Speaker 4: You're like, because nothing's being done the way it usually.
27:59
Speaker 1: Is, and this is a different approach to it and
28:01
Speaker 1: you're just as unique and the results are there.
28:04
Speaker 2: Well at first you're like, what the hell is all
28:08
Speaker 2: you know?
28:09
Speaker 1: And can give us an example because like Chip Kelly
28:12
Speaker 1: came in and did the spread offense and everyone was
28:14
Speaker 1: like that don't never work in the NFL, And it
28:15
Speaker 1: did for a little bit. But like on the set
28:17
Speaker 1: or in a movie or a show, what would be
28:19
Speaker 1: something unique to the million other directors who you've worked with.
28:22
Speaker 4: Well, the way I experienced that, Peter was I got
28:24
Speaker 4: there and you you you know, you get the schedule.
28:27
Speaker 4: We got three sheet scenes we're going to shoot today,
28:30
Speaker 4: and you prepare them. Yeah, be like knowing the playbook. Okay,
28:34
Speaker 4: so you get there and first thing that somebody we're
28:36
Speaker 4: not doing those today, Like okay, any reason, we don't know,
28:42
Speaker 4: Welcome to the idol, Like all right, well what are
28:47
Speaker 4: we doing? They're doing these three scenes and the explanation
28:50
Speaker 4: in that day seemed to be that Sam was shooting
28:53
Speaker 4: on film, which is different than shooting digitally, and the
28:57
Speaker 4: light had changed in a way. That and we're shooting
28:59
Speaker 4: this big glass house which happened to be the Weekend's
29:01
Speaker 4: reel house, but in the movie we were shooting it
29:04
Speaker 4: as if it was Joscelyn's house, so the light changed.
29:08
Speaker 4: He even wants to make sure those scenes are shot
29:09
Speaker 4: in a certain type of lights, so we're going to
29:11
Speaker 4: switch to these other scenes.
29:12
Speaker 2: Okay, that's a very filmic reason. Yeah, all right, So
29:16
Speaker 2: I learned those three scenes over the next two hours, and.
29:19
Speaker 4: Then they change it again. Oh, like, no, we're not
29:23
Speaker 4: going to do those today. And it turned out that
29:26
Speaker 4: based on how the morning's work had went, they decided
29:30
Speaker 4: they needed another scene where they were already shooting.
29:34
Speaker 2: So they decided to go stay there.
29:37
Speaker 4: All this is very on the run, and you know,
29:43
Speaker 4: here's the equivalent. It'd be like a really great in
29:46
Speaker 4: game coach making adjustments.
29:48
Speaker 1: This is what I see and is what we need
29:49
Speaker 1: for the better of the team right now. Yeah that
29:51
Speaker 1: we prepared all week, we did our game plan, but
29:54
Speaker 1: in this moment, this is the adjustment.
29:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, but this is what we're doing today because this
29:57
Speaker 4: is what it feels like it needs.
29:58
Speaker 2: And I think I actually called the first ad.
30:00
Speaker 4: The poor guy who was in charge of raging, so
30:02
Speaker 4: I think I actually called him a young man.
30:04
Speaker 2: Or young man, what is this? What are we doing
30:10
Speaker 2: here today?
30:11
Speaker 4: And he's like, yeah, no, often there's audibles that are called.
30:16
Speaker 4: And so after about two days of this, I said, Okay,
30:19
Speaker 4: do me a favor. Just give me the ten or
30:22
Speaker 4: twelve scenes that are in play all right, that you
30:25
Speaker 4: think we will do, because I'm sure you can limit
30:27
Speaker 4: it loss I could prepare, yeah, exactly, so at least
30:30
Speaker 4: in others a playbook like I'll stick. I'll have a
30:33
Speaker 4: wide playbook and then you guys tell me what we're
30:35
Speaker 4: doing and I'll be able to adjust, no problem. And
30:38
Speaker 4: then not only that, but so he would kind of
30:42
Speaker 4: go with the creative hot hand, if.
30:44
Speaker 2: You will love this.
30:46
Speaker 4: Not only that, but then once we started the scene,
30:49
Speaker 4: he would start changing it based on what we were doing,
30:52
Speaker 4: how things were working. We would he goes, do my favorite,
30:54
Speaker 4: just improvise the scene, forget about the dialogue, and we
30:56
Speaker 4: would do that, or we would do the scene and
30:58
Speaker 4: then we'd improvide the next ten minutes what might follow
31:01
Speaker 4: the scene. So he started combining a sort of more
31:04
Speaker 4: jud Appatow, you know, Larry David approach.
31:08
Speaker 1: I was gonna say, like, it's going to bring up
31:10
Speaker 1: curb where they say, here's the here's what happens, but
31:13
Speaker 1: the dialogue, go ahead and just let it rip, right?
31:16
Speaker 1: Is that? Is that how this was?
31:18
Speaker 4: But it was it was more like a legendary filmmaker
31:21
Speaker 4: Robert Altman, and that it wasn't so much to try
31:23
Speaker 4: to be funny sometimes it won't, but it was more
31:25
Speaker 4: to try to get more emotionally real, like a filmmaker
31:28
Speaker 4: named Mike Lee works. This way took where you know,
31:31
Speaker 4: you get to the more raw emotion of certain things
31:34
Speaker 4: if you just kind of let it fly and don't
31:36
Speaker 4: let words constrain you. And a lot of it wasn't
31:40
Speaker 4: h He had a ton of materials, so they had
31:43
Speaker 4: to edit a lot.
31:45
Speaker 2: In the end.
31:45
Speaker 4: But I'd say half the performance of my own half,
31:49
Speaker 4: a scripted half, was the stuff we came up with
31:52
Speaker 4: in the moment or on the day.
31:53
Speaker 1: You know the Apatow reference. Now he says, we'll do
31:57
Speaker 1: fifty takes this. We don't know what the final version is.
31:59
Speaker 1: Going to be and then whatever felt right for Judd
32:02
Speaker 1: in the edit is what ends up in the final.
32:05
Speaker 1: Would you guys be doing like twenty ten of this
32:06
Speaker 1: or would be like Clint Eastwood one take or Woody
32:09
Speaker 1: Allen one take. That's good, let's move.
32:10
Speaker 4: More more like it was neither, because that's also the
32:13
Speaker 4: twenty takes starts to crush your soul so much. One
32:16
Speaker 4: take is not enough. It was more like just extended,
32:19
Speaker 4: like Judtle, let the camera run. I have a work
32:21
Speaker 4: which I love to I did a movie that he
32:23
Speaker 4: produced that was short of Sun in a fimilar way,
32:25
Speaker 4: but it was more like extended. We never really heard cut.
32:30
Speaker 4: We just would kind of keep going and then sometimes
32:33
Speaker 4: you know, it was like a true good coach like
32:37
Speaker 4: Lily and I. A lot of our scenes were exactly
32:40
Speaker 4: is written, you know what I mean. We just it
32:42
Speaker 4: was written, well, it seemed to work. We got it
32:45
Speaker 4: fast bang.
32:46
Speaker 2: You know.
32:46
Speaker 4: Some others seat there were a lot of actual music
32:48
Speaker 4: industry people in this, so for them acting wasn't.
32:52
Speaker 1: It's more accuracy and consulting.
32:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, So Sam would say, well, I don't worry
32:58
Speaker 4: about the words, just say what you really say. There, cool,
33:01
Speaker 4: I forget even about the script, just what would you
33:02
Speaker 4: really do in this circumstance. And so the professional actors
33:06
Speaker 4: on the set, not that they weren't pros, but you
33:09
Speaker 4: know what I mean, the more experienced actors would have
33:11
Speaker 4: to sort of roll with whatever they were doing. So
33:14
Speaker 4: I loved it on that from that standpoint, not to
33:17
Speaker 4: mention Peter, but then after a while, cumulatively another sports analogy, right,
33:22
Speaker 4: So great coaches they take their actual player, they chuck
33:26
Speaker 4: their game plan after a while and go with the
33:28
Speaker 4: strengths of their players. And that's what Sam started doing
33:31
Speaker 4: a lot too. It's like you seem I started playing
33:34
Speaker 4: it a different way than he expected, so he started
33:37
Speaker 4: writing to that that's changing things, you know, And he
33:40
Speaker 4: did that for everybody's character, even the Weekend. I don't
33:44
Speaker 4: want to give away too much, but yeah, the original
33:47
Speaker 4: vision for the thing, it turned into something else given
33:50
Speaker 4: on how the Weekend was doing with it, and very profoundly,
33:54
Speaker 4: you know. So it was really fun and creative. I
33:57
Speaker 4: hadn't worked that way on a set that creative since
34:00
Speaker 4: I worked with Mike Nichols, you know, on the p Yeah.
34:03
Speaker 1: How's the reception been so far? And have you been
34:06
Speaker 1: happy with what you've heard from people who've watched the
34:09
Speaker 1: episode so far.
34:10
Speaker 2: Well, we had a lot of negative press leading up.
34:13
Speaker 1: Because because of this, because of what the way it
34:14
Speaker 1: was made or what the topic.
34:17
Speaker 4: Well there was there was an article Rolling Stone that
34:19
Speaker 4: what I described accurately just now as the creative nature
34:23
Speaker 4: of that set, you know, got called chaotic and dysfunctional.
34:26
Speaker 4: And I made a point at the press conference and
34:28
Speaker 4: ken of saying no, no, no, I've been on sets
34:31
Speaker 4: that were chaotic and dysfunctional.
34:33
Speaker 2: It wasn't that, been on bad teams.
34:34
Speaker 4: Okay, this wasn't that, And it was the opposite of that,
34:40
Speaker 4: this sexual you know, gratefully for everyone involved, I'm not.
34:43
Speaker 4: I wasn't involved in the sexual shenanigans in the show.
34:47
Speaker 4: That's for the young folks. So I can't really to
34:50
Speaker 4: speak to it. I just know that Lily was very,
34:52
Speaker 4: very comfortable with everything she had to do, felt very
34:55
Speaker 4: collaborated with as I did on anything I was doing.
34:59
Speaker 4: And Sam's work is very much that way. You know,
35:02
Speaker 4: Euphoria really pushes it. So does this mean it might
35:06
Speaker 4: not be everybody's cup of tea? I get that, but
35:08
Speaker 4: I don't think you can deny the filmmaking and the
35:11
Speaker 4: compelling story and the great characters and stuff.
35:14
Speaker 1: I haven't seen Euphoria, which makes it sound like I'm
35:16
Speaker 1: talking out of my you know what, but it's it's
35:19
Speaker 1: the most streamed show I think HBO has ever had,
35:21
Speaker 1: and it's also one of the rare shows that has,
35:24
Speaker 1: you know, attracted the younger audience where they're not just
35:27
Speaker 1: watching YouTube clips all day. They actually watched this show.
35:29
Speaker 1: Love this show, And what might not be digestible for
35:33
Speaker 1: a certain generation might be something that is actually being
35:36
Speaker 1: craved and not satisfied in entertainment, And this is what
35:38
Speaker 1: might be he be writing. You know, it's a different
35:40
Speaker 1: audience necessarily than what the same audience has been watching
35:43
Speaker 1: TV for sixty years.
35:44
Speaker 2: That's exactly right here.
35:45
Speaker 4: I've talked to Sam at length about this because I
35:48
Speaker 4: got kind of morbidly fascinated with Euphoria after the fact,
35:51
Speaker 4: and I watched it, and sure enough, especially the first
35:54
Speaker 4: two episodes. As a parent, it's like, they're great, but
35:58
Speaker 4: they're great the way watching a horror.
36:00
Speaker 2: Movie is great.
36:00
Speaker 4: You're like, oh my god, what am I seeing? It's
36:04
Speaker 4: terrifying but very compelling, and then it settles in. It's
36:08
Speaker 4: just really good storytelling and filmmaking, and it's very good.
36:11
Speaker 4: And then I'm like, well, what am I really going
36:14
Speaker 4: to care about? Ostensibly a teen drama, you know, those
36:17
Speaker 4: days are way gone for me, but they totally translated.
36:20
Speaker 4: The characters are so good. The story of Zendaiah's journey
36:23
Speaker 4: into sobriety is the most realistic depiction of that I've
36:26
Speaker 4: ever seen. It's amazing. It's just gripping. And you know,
36:30
Speaker 4: Sam said, he purposely he's young. He's not a teenager,
36:36
Speaker 4: but he's a young guy himself. He was hyper aware
36:38
Speaker 4: that his audience, as you just said, as you see
36:41
Speaker 4: a YouTube clip is like a feature.
36:43
Speaker 1: Film to that's all.
36:45
Speaker 2: Yeah, So he was like, I can't.
36:47
Speaker 4: He purposely designed it so as not to let young
36:50
Speaker 4: attention spans waiver, things like no establishing shots. Kids shut
36:55
Speaker 4: down and start looking at their phone if you show an.
36:58
Speaker 2: Establishing shot, it's interesting.
37:00
Speaker 4: He was hyper aware of as few cuts as possible
37:05
Speaker 4: and as not letting the attention span go away, and
37:10
Speaker 4: he designed it that way and it apparently worked.
37:18
Speaker 1: You've been in so many great films, so many shows,
37:21
Speaker 1: and yet I think everyone has a different entry point
37:23
Speaker 1: for Hankaus area. So I ask you, you know, we
37:26
Speaker 1: live in New York where it's not everyone stopping you
37:28
Speaker 1: on the street every two seconds. But when you do
37:30
Speaker 1: get stopped, is it a Simpson's voice? Is it friends?
37:34
Speaker 1: Is it birdcage? Is it another felt?
37:37
Speaker 3: Like?
37:37
Speaker 1: What do you feel like? Is the thing that you're
37:38
Speaker 1: getting the most these days? As far as a Brockmeyer like,
37:41
Speaker 1: what is it that people are stopping you and saying, hey,
37:43
Speaker 1: love your work in X something?
37:45
Speaker 2: It depends on where I am.
37:46
Speaker 4: I can sort of tell by the demographic of the
37:50
Speaker 4: person what they're likely to. If I'm at the Mets game,
37:54
Speaker 4: I'm gonna hear a lot of brockmrk. You know, most
37:58
Speaker 4: of all it's bird cage. Okay, Young folks are very
38:02
Speaker 4: friends obsessed.
38:05
Speaker 1: You're not interesting. It's how this second life of like
38:08
Speaker 1: a number one show.
38:09
Speaker 4: You're right, every eleven year old discovers friends, you know,
38:14
Speaker 4: since the show's been on, So I get a lot
38:16
Speaker 4: of that, And a lot of folks from foreign countries
38:21
Speaker 4: are friends.
38:21
Speaker 2: Obsessed as well.
38:22
Speaker 1: Interesting.
38:23
Speaker 4: But I get, you know, i'd say probably the most
38:25
Speaker 4: of Burke And then I've been around so long now
38:27
Speaker 4: that I really never know, I get weird, like really
38:30
Speaker 4: you like Herman's head.
38:31
Speaker 1: Okay, let Herbert said Fox.
38:33
Speaker 4: Let's go early days of Fox. You know, so I
38:36
Speaker 4: never totally know you. Know what I get more than
38:39
Speaker 4: anything else, Peter is people know me, but they don't
38:41
Speaker 4: know from where. Oh?
38:43
Speaker 1: Is that the worst though? Why do I know you?
38:45
Speaker 1: Is that the worst question? In an airport? I get
38:47
Speaker 1: people coming. Why do I know you?
38:49
Speaker 2: I have very good pat answers for it.
38:51
Speaker 1: What do you say?
38:52
Speaker 2: I get a lot of you. I know you're an actor.
38:54
Speaker 4: I don't know your name, so I think, well, I'm
38:59
Speaker 4: George Clooney.
39:00
Speaker 2: I just look really ugly in person.
39:05
Speaker 1: I was reading you know, I do my research before
39:08
Speaker 1: any of these things. But I'm fascinated with like your
39:10
Speaker 1: career because it's got such a depth in so many
39:12
Speaker 1: different roles. Before Simpsons, I mean, there was was it Hollywood?
39:17
Speaker 5: Dog?
39:18
Speaker 1: Was the show? What was the show?
39:19
Speaker 2: You are good?
39:21
Speaker 1: Tell me, tell me what your entry points to the
39:23
Speaker 1: Simpsons was? And whatever happened to that show?
39:25
Speaker 2: Well that never even made it to air?
39:27
Speaker 1: So what was it?
39:29
Speaker 2: Early days of Fox?
39:30
Speaker 4: As you said, remember the show the movie Who Framed
39:33
Speaker 4: Roger Rabbit?
39:34
Speaker 1: Yes, Bob Hoskins.
39:36
Speaker 4: Bob Hoskins and Zamacus so animated rabbit live action people
39:43
Speaker 4: that got popular. Fox decided to try one of those.
39:47
Speaker 4: They did a pilot of a show called Hollywood Dog,
39:50
Speaker 4: based on a comic strip this Popper at the time.
39:53
Speaker 1: It was called Hollywood Dog and it would be like
39:54
Speaker 1: in your Sunday paper.
39:55
Speaker 2: Okay, I guess I did the voice of the dog White.
40:01
Speaker 2: They talk like this, Hey doing this Hollywood Dog.
40:05
Speaker 1: I love already Hollywood Dog.
40:07
Speaker 4: And that back then, back in the old days, Peter,
40:13
Speaker 4: they made every network, even.
40:15
Speaker 2: Fox, made like one hundred.
40:17
Speaker 1: Pilots and they picked pilot seasoned.
40:20
Speaker 2: Yes, so everybody worked pilots.
40:22
Speaker 4: Everyone loved pilot season because almost every actor worked, but
40:26
Speaker 4: only ten or fifteen of them made it to air
40:28
Speaker 4: out of like fifty to eighty they made. Hollywood Dog
40:32
Speaker 4: was one of them. So not long after that, I
40:34
Speaker 4: got a call from head of casting The Simpsons, a
40:37
Speaker 4: woman named Bonnie Pietila, who worked on the show for
40:40
Speaker 4: years but has stopped and knew me from that just
40:45
Speaker 4: through Fox, and it was like almost an open calls,
40:48
Speaker 4: an open call, but I didn't have a voiceover agent.
40:51
Speaker 2: It just came through my regular agent.
40:54
Speaker 1: Wow, And I.
40:55
Speaker 4: Walked over one day to Fox and Sam Simon and MATC.
41:00
Speaker 4: Graining were in the room and Sam has passed away since,
41:04
Speaker 4: but he and Matt and Jim Brooks with the original creators.
41:08
Speaker 4: And I was doing to play in Hollywood at the time.
41:12
Speaker 4: I was playing a drug dealer in this play, and
41:14
Speaker 4: I was doing an impression, a vocal impression of Pacino
41:17
Speaker 4: from Dog Day Afternoon in that place.
41:20
Speaker 2: So I was sort of talking like this, that's sort
41:22
Speaker 2: of an early Alpatuna.
41:24
Speaker 4: I hear MO already, Well, yeah it, so I do that,
41:29
Speaker 4: and they were like, well, we wanted to be gravelly,
41:32
Speaker 4: so you take young al Pacino and you make it
41:35
Speaker 4: gravity and you get motor bought. And they said, great,
41:40
Speaker 4: can you come record this. I'm like, now, I never
41:44
Speaker 4: had that appenue, Like you get the job in the
41:46
Speaker 4: room and then.
41:46
Speaker 2: You do it.
41:48
Speaker 4: I realized now they probably they probably had like eight
41:51
Speaker 4: guys do that that day, and then they just kept
41:53
Speaker 4: the one they liked. So even when I thought I
41:55
Speaker 4: had the job, I probably didn't. But I guess they
41:58
Speaker 4: liked what I did. And then each week I'd come
42:00
Speaker 4: back and do another voice or to had like wig
42:02
Speaker 4: them the next week, and on and on.
42:05
Speaker 2: And after about a year that they made me regular.
42:08
Speaker 4: You know what I found out years later here, how
42:10
Speaker 4: about this for craziness?
42:12
Speaker 2: So apparently.
42:14
Speaker 4: There was an original mode the bar They were replacement
42:17
Speaker 4: casting at that point they had had a mod the bartender,
42:21
Speaker 4: And then I was like, oh wow, really. And then
42:24
Speaker 4: years after I found that out, I think Matt Groening
42:26
Speaker 4: and I were doing some like we were being judges
42:29
Speaker 4: on some Food Network food show, right.
42:33
Speaker 1: Okay, chopped one of these things and one of those.
42:36
Speaker 4: Not it wasn't chopped, but it was. I said, you know, Matt,
42:40
Speaker 4: why did you fire that? What didn't you like about
42:45
Speaker 4: the voice work of that original Mo? And he said, oh,
42:49
Speaker 4: we thought he was great. We liked him a lot.
42:52
Speaker 4: So well, then what did you fire him for?
42:55
Speaker 2: He said? The guy was just kind of a jerk.
42:58
Speaker 1: Just what a lesson? Right?
43:00
Speaker 2: Oh my god? So the guy, the poor guy, he's
43:03
Speaker 2: since passed away.
43:04
Speaker 1: I think, can you imagine the rest of his life?
43:06
Speaker 2: Well, that's to me.
43:07
Speaker 4: The guy was like the peak best of the Simpsons,
43:09
Speaker 4: you know what I mean. And it's like, dude, don't
43:12
Speaker 4: that's terrior. I felt really bad, actually yeah, And.
43:15
Speaker 1: He was probably in his twenties, young guy like you
43:17
Speaker 1: know and live with that the rest of his life.
43:20
Speaker 1: That's heartbreaking.
43:20
Speaker 4: He was a really established voiceover guy and Jim Brooks
43:25
Speaker 4: talk about takes in the early days of The Simpsons
43:28
Speaker 4: and Jim Brooks of everything he does, he.
43:31
Speaker 2: Likes to do take after take.
43:32
Speaker 4: He really tried to get it right and I think
43:35
Speaker 4: the guy didn't like it and sort of snapped at
43:37
Speaker 4: them all one day.
43:39
Speaker 1: When I was a kid. And I'm not trying to
43:40
Speaker 1: date you, obviously, you know Simpsons been going on for
43:43
Speaker 1: five not even years old, but it's just Simpsons. I'm
43:46
Speaker 1: certainly not dating you. If I say I grew up
43:47
Speaker 1: watching the Simpsons. I think everyone grew up watching the Simpsons.
43:50
Speaker 1: But I remember like being a craze, like I mean,
43:53
Speaker 1: I know now you could say, oh well, no, this
43:55
Speaker 1: is bigger now or American Idol was a bigger craze
43:57
Speaker 1: in the two thousand, but like every kid had the
43:59
Speaker 1: T shirt, I wasn't allowed to wear the T shirt
44:01
Speaker 1: in school. It was banned to have Bart Simpsons in school.
44:03
Speaker 2: Can you believe at the time when Bart Simpson was
44:05
Speaker 2: considered edge?
44:06
Speaker 1: You think about that now because it's you know why,
44:09
Speaker 1: because I said, eat my shorts me you can't can't
44:12
Speaker 1: have it, you know, cawipunk, you can't have it? Did
44:16
Speaker 1: you guys feel it like it was the biggest? It
44:19
Speaker 1: was on the cover I think Bart Simson's on the
44:20
Speaker 1: cover of Time in Newsweek at the same time, like
44:22
Speaker 1: a Springsteen like celebrity. But like, did you feel that
44:25
Speaker 1: when you were recording those first episodes that this thing
44:28
Speaker 1: could be what it forget what it's become. But that
44:30
Speaker 1: first year, what a sensation it was?
44:33
Speaker 4: Yes, and no knowing that Fox itself was two years old.
44:38
Speaker 1: What was it? Mara Children, you guys, Horman's head, Tracy Almond,
44:43
Speaker 1: and a few other things.
44:45
Speaker 2: Cops Cops for sure, Cops.
44:47
Speaker 4: Was a huge hit for them, and that was the first,
44:52
Speaker 4: you know, new network. It was ABC, CBS, at NBC
44:55
Speaker 4: and PBS and whatever couple of local channels you had,
44:59
Speaker 4: and that was it. Children, that was it, and so
45:04
Speaker 4: a new network. You were like, you kidding that it's
45:06
Speaker 4: not going to last. So you didn't even know if
45:09
Speaker 4: the network was going to survive, let alone an animated
45:12
Speaker 4: primetime show on the network. I mean that said James L.
45:16
Speaker 4: Brooks at that point was a legend, a legend deservedly
45:20
Speaker 4: so I mean, the guy was arguably the greatest. I mean,
45:24
Speaker 4: I don't know if anybody before or since it's at
45:27
Speaker 4: that kind of success in TV and film at the
45:30
Speaker 4: same time, you know, winning Emmys and Oscars at the
45:32
Speaker 4: same time, and doing it himself like the real deal,
45:35
Speaker 4: writing it all and.
45:38
Speaker 2: Creating it all.
45:39
Speaker 4: And so the fact that Jim Brooks was standing there,
45:43
Speaker 4: to my twenty two year old self, it is how
45:45
Speaker 4: old what I started doing.
45:46
Speaker 1: Is twenty two? Really?
45:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, my first of us was impressive, and you know,
45:52
Speaker 4: back then, I take it for granted. Now now again,
45:54
Speaker 4: I don't you know, my finger is hardly on the
45:57
Speaker 4: pulse beat of pop culture and comedy anymore. But then
46:00
Speaker 4: it was without my even realizing it. There was less
46:03
Speaker 4: to track back then. But I had a strong sense,
46:08
Speaker 4: just from a youthful comedic standpoint, that this thing was
46:13
Speaker 4: pretty special.
46:14
Speaker 2: And then I remember it was an LA Film.
46:17
Speaker 4: Festival and they showed the shorts of The Simpsons in it,
46:20
Speaker 4: and the audience went crazy, really crazy.
46:23
Speaker 1: Before even they were in the Tracy Almonds show. They
46:25
Speaker 1: were showing them at this festival.
46:26
Speaker 4: They were cold from the Tracy alemend shows. Before we
46:29
Speaker 4: premiered as a half hour.
46:30
Speaker 1: Show and the audience went nuts.
46:33
Speaker 4: Yeah, my peers, my, it just struck a chord with
46:37
Speaker 4: us youngsters.
46:38
Speaker 2: I don't know exactly why.
46:40
Speaker 1: I mean, my friend, I mean, we were in I
46:42
Speaker 1: guess middle school. We would I mean, and then they
46:44
Speaker 1: would air in syndication. We would memorize lines. You could
46:48
Speaker 1: put on a Simpsons episode. For the first ten seasons,
46:50
Speaker 1: I could tell you every line of every episode, and
46:52
Speaker 1: that was kind of the norm.
46:53
Speaker 4: That's what we did, you know, Yes, and I had equivalent.
46:58
Speaker 4: You know, I grew up worshiping Bugs, Bunny and all
47:00
Speaker 4: the Warner Brothers cartoons, and then you know, there were
47:04
Speaker 4: certain shows that meant everything to me. You know, I
47:08
Speaker 4: was like Happy Days and yeah, all in the Family
47:11
Speaker 4: early Days, that Jim but you know, Mary Tyler Moore
47:14
Speaker 4: and even to my early twenty like I grew up
47:16
Speaker 4: as a teen on family Ties. So I know, I
47:20
Speaker 4: do know well what it's like to have a show
47:22
Speaker 4: mean a lot. And I'm thrilled that, you know, both
47:26
Speaker 4: from an animation standpoint and just an iconic standpoint, that
47:30
Speaker 4: to pass, to be able to be a part of
47:32
Speaker 4: passing that traditional law awesome.
47:34
Speaker 1: We're going to wrap it here as we record on
47:37
Speaker 1: this June day, If I ask you in six months,
47:41
Speaker 1: what's the ideal situation for your New York Jets as
47:43
Speaker 1: we close, paint the picture for me here it's a
47:46
Speaker 1: winter day, you got your fourteen year old son. Are
47:48
Speaker 1: we headed towards a playoff game? Or what? What are
47:51
Speaker 1: we thinking?
47:51
Speaker 2: Is?
47:51
Speaker 1: Actually, you know what would you be happy with if
47:54
Speaker 1: you could sign up for it right now?
47:55
Speaker 4: Well, I mean the ceiling is an obvious answer, but
47:59
Speaker 4: I mean I saw the Interesting World Today article today
48:03
Speaker 4: Peter that the projections are like all over the board, all.
48:07
Speaker 1: Over the sportsbooks, have no consistency and like everywhere from
48:11
Speaker 1: eight wins to fourteen wins.
48:13
Speaker 2: I even see I saw a four win projection.
48:18
Speaker 4: They seem to be averaging out at like eight point
48:20
Speaker 4: six or something.
48:21
Speaker 1: Weird like about what they did last year? Was Zach
48:23
Speaker 1: Wilson and.
48:24
Speaker 2: Stribler, Yeah right that.
48:27
Speaker 4: I think I even heard you talking about how much
48:30
Speaker 4: a defense can fluctuate year to year. And their schedule
48:35
Speaker 4: is a lot harder this year it was last.
48:37
Speaker 1: AFC is loaded, But in a way you look.
48:39
Speaker 4: At it like they're going to have to beat those
48:41
Speaker 4: teams if they're gonna win.
48:43
Speaker 2: So let's let's find out. To me, honestly, like I'll.
48:49
Speaker 4: I answer this from a Brett Favre perspective, Okay, guy came,
48:53
Speaker 4: we were all excited in a similar.
48:54
Speaker 2: Fashion, he went eight and three.
48:57
Speaker 4: Yep, hurt his freaking shoulder, and they lost the rest
49:01
Speaker 4: of the games except for one, and they missed the playoffs.
49:04
Speaker 2: The next year, he took the freaking Vikings to the
49:07
Speaker 2: NF Championship.
49:09
Speaker 1: A couple plays away from the super Bowl.
49:11
Speaker 4: And because obviously he just wanted to do that, I mean,
49:16
Speaker 4: it's hard not to think about what if he just
49:18
Speaker 4: stayed a Jet for that second year. So to me, honestly,
49:22
Speaker 4: especially because I'm being Jets men's knicks, I'm so I
49:26
Speaker 4: have such PTSD that if the team just really plays
49:29
Speaker 4: well and his competitive, I think if they don't make
49:32
Speaker 4: the playoffs.
49:33
Speaker 2: I'll be genuinely disappointed disappointed.
49:35
Speaker 4: But if they're really competitive and make any version.
49:40
Speaker 2: Of a run, I'll be very very happy.
49:42
Speaker 4: And if it looks like Aaron would come back one
49:44
Speaker 4: more year and try it again, I'd be thrilled with that.
49:47
Speaker 2: But I don't, I don't dare hope beyond.
49:52
Speaker 1: I love it. You're your two season as a fan
49:55
Speaker 1: to to start, you know, planning a parade down Broadway
49:57
Speaker 1: and yeah, so many art.
50:00
Speaker 2: Well you imagine it.
50:01
Speaker 4: You can't mean the next beat when the next beat
50:04
Speaker 4: the Cavaliers. I just could not help him imagining, I know,
50:08
Speaker 4: a Knicks Lakers final, like.
50:10
Speaker 1: A nationally televised Eastern Conference final. I forget that. I
50:13
Speaker 1: was in the same bat, you know, obviously, and it's like, wow,
50:16
Speaker 1: what if we're hosting at the garden like the Eastern
50:18
Speaker 1: Conference final? Like what? Like it's insane.
50:20
Speaker 2: I know, I know, I know, I know.
50:23
Speaker 1: You're a good man. Thanks for going along here, appreciate it.
50:26
Speaker 1: You're in the idol on HBO. I've got this. I
50:29
Speaker 1: feel so ridiculous. I've got my home set up if
50:31
Speaker 1: you're listening on audio, and my one loan sports Emmy
50:34
Speaker 1: is behind me. I'm talking to Hank, who's probably got
50:36
Speaker 1: six hundred and he doesn't have any behind me.
50:38
Speaker 2: Came up here there.
50:44
Speaker 1: Bobbleheads and Emmy looks so good. I felt cycle like
50:48
Speaker 1: such a loser. I've got one.
50:51
Speaker 4: Like it's a nice it's a nice starter at me, Peter,
50:54
Speaker 4: it's a nice starter at me.
50:55
Speaker 1: We'll get there. Uh, Hank is area such a fan
50:58
Speaker 1: of yours from TV and also I also think you're
51:00
Speaker 1: the best guest on Eisen, you're the best guest on
51:01
Speaker 1: Dan Lebuttar, and I think you're a tremendous voice in
51:04
Speaker 1: the sports media world too.
51:05
Speaker 2: Jim Bradmeyer has you the checks he's been. I've been
51:10
Speaker 2: back the last couple of weeks.
51:11
Speaker 4: Okay, so not the normal podcast, but I do a
51:14
Speaker 4: segment of Dan pretty much every week, usually on Thursdays.
51:17
Speaker 1: So good. You're great with those guys, Henk, thanks so
51:20
Speaker 1: much for joining this podcast. Thanks Peter Aaron. How good
51:23
Speaker 1: was Hanka's area?
51:24
Speaker 3: Hearing him do the voices?
51:26
Speaker 4: Like?
51:26
Speaker 3: While we were it was.
51:29
Speaker 1: I didn't know how far to go with that. I
51:31
Speaker 1: was tempted to be like, all right, do Wigham do
51:36
Speaker 1: Gigham calling a play? Do Wigam commented, And then I'm like,
51:39
Speaker 1: all right, he's not a circus clown.
51:41
Speaker 2: You know.
51:42
Speaker 1: I haven't seen the idol. I kind of want to
51:44
Speaker 1: see it now. I haven't seen you for you though.
51:46
Speaker 1: Do you watch you for it?
51:47
Speaker 3: I don't you know. I maybe we should for some reason,
51:51
Speaker 3: I'm not up on all the HBO shows.
51:53
Speaker 1: Okay, everyone says it's incredibly uncomfortable and unsettling, but like
51:57
Speaker 1: awesome TV. I don't know if I need uncomfortable and
51:59
Speaker 1: unsettling him.
52:00
Speaker 3: I did love him talking about like it's catered to
52:03
Speaker 3: the younger audience, so there is no establishing shots there.
52:06
Speaker 1: Yeah, no theme song.
52:08
Speaker 3: It just go it keeps you in there. Yeah, So
52:11
Speaker 3: I think that's fascinating. I haven't seen it diehard.
52:16
Speaker 1: Jets Mets Knicks. That's a tortured trio right there.
52:19
Speaker 3: I mean, at least it's Knicks, not Nets, right, I mean,
52:22
Speaker 3: Jets Mets Nets would be harder. I mean that doesn't fit.
52:25
Speaker 1: I guess. You know, with Jets and Mets are typically
52:28
Speaker 1: if you're like not from New York, that's there's like
52:30
Speaker 1: a queen side of that where it's one was in
52:33
Speaker 1: They both played in Shay Stadium, and they both were
52:35
Speaker 1: like kind of created at the same time in the sixties.
52:37
Speaker 1: And if you weren't a traditional Giants and Yankees fan
52:41
Speaker 1: who have been around for much longer, you're like, this
52:43
Speaker 1: are my teams. These are new, they're fun, and yet
52:45
Speaker 1: they have the same tortured history. Of course, they both
52:47
Speaker 1: won championships. You know, the Mets have won in eighty
52:50
Speaker 1: six and sixty nine, the Jets won in sixty eight,
52:54
Speaker 1: but gosh, it's been a long long time, and Hank
52:58
Speaker 1: lives it, and I have so many friends who have
53:00
Speaker 1: that combo of Nicks, Jets, Mets, and it's just a
53:04
Speaker 1: miserable existence when it comes to post postseason success of
53:08
Speaker 1: the last thirty years.
53:09
Speaker 3: And I feel like they haven't. I don't know baseball
53:11
Speaker 3: well enough, but Jets at least that lot of excitement
53:14
Speaker 3: last season, but not nothing that compares quite to like
53:19
Speaker 3: bing Bong for the Knicks, like the Jets the Knicks.
53:22
Speaker 1: That's so the Knicks was such a sensation and that's
53:25
Speaker 1: one playoff game, the bing bong thing. All right, I
53:28
Speaker 1: love this episode. I hope you're listening at home. We're
53:30
Speaker 1: going to try to keep on bringing on good entertainment
53:33
Speaker 1: style guests and then we're going to sprinkle in some
53:36
Speaker 1: coaches and some gms over the next few weeks. But
53:37
Speaker 1: the podcast will be rocking and rolling on. Behalf of
53:41
Speaker 1: the great Aaron Wang Kaufman on, behalf of my dear
53:44
Speaker 1: buddy Jason English at iHeart on, behalf of all the
53:48
Speaker 1: crew in LA who worked for NFL Network and helped
53:51
Speaker 1: put this together. The Jason Kleman and Matt Schneider and
53:55
Speaker 1: Meredith Batton and David Juranka and that crew and then
53:59
Speaker 1: on behalf of the Awesome guests. Hank Kazaria brought it.
54:04
Speaker 1: He was tremendous. Last week, David Cross brought like, I
54:06
Speaker 1: want to be different with this thing. Hopefully you're just
54:08
Speaker 1: finding it or you're listening every week, but you'll see
54:11
Speaker 1: it's a different kind of podcast than the other football podcast.
54:14
Speaker 1: We're trying to be a little bit more broader and
54:17
Speaker 1: show some different lanes and try to bring in some
54:20
Speaker 1: entertainment guests who have a love for football and can
54:22
Speaker 1: speak it. As Hank so eloquently did about the New
54:26
Speaker 1: York Jets, and he's right. I think every Jets fan
54:29
Speaker 1: is bracing themselves and trying not to get too far
54:32
Speaker 1: in advance. But it's hard not to be optimistic.
54:35
Speaker 3: I mean, I don't have optimism for the Jets personally.
54:39
Speaker 1: You're a Bills fan, I hear you. No, all right
54:43
Speaker 1: till next week, guys, this is this season with Peter Schrager.
54:47
Speaker 1: Love doing it, and go support Children's Mercy Hospital in
54:50
Speaker 1: Kansas City. Donate a dollar if you can. Amazing organization.
54:54
Speaker 1: I'm still kind of relishing in all that we did
54:57
Speaker 1: this week for that org and the big slick weekend
55:00
Speaker 1: Till next week, guys, Thank you. The Season with Peter
55:19
Speaker 1: Schrager is a production of the NFL and partnership with iHeartRadio.
