- 0:00Speaker 1: The Mark Simone Show, now 9 till noon.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Weekdays on 710WOR.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Wow, one of the great talk show hosts in the world,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Howie Carr. You can hear him on iHeart. You can
- 0:14Speaker 1: hear his show, his podcast. Just go to the iHeart app.
- 0:16Speaker 1: You can get all of his best-selling books. And you
- 0:19Speaker 1: can actually get everything at his website, HowieCarrShow.com. HowieCarrShow.com. Howie Carr,
- 0:25Speaker 1: how are you doing?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Very good. It's primary election day here in Massachusetts. Uh-oh. Yeah,
- 0:33Speaker 2: I know.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Ed Markey, age 80, backed by Bernie Sanders, age 85,
- 0:41Speaker 3: and Elizabeth Warren, age 78, seems to be headed for
- 0:46Speaker 3: victory over the insufferable former presidential candidate, Seth Moulton. Seth
- 0:52Speaker 3: Moulton ran for president the same year Eric Swalwell did.
- 0:56Speaker 3: At least Moulton's going to lose, but at least he
- 0:58Speaker 3: hasn't been stopped by FBI agents at the airport.
- 1:01Speaker 2: He had his cell phones grabbed.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Ed Markey's been around Massachusetts for a million years. You
- 1:07Speaker 1: guys are used to him. What's the problem with him?
- 1:13Speaker 3: As someone at the Statehouse, a fellow Democrat says, he's
- 1:16Speaker 3: the man that the time forgot. He's been there since
- 1:19Speaker 3: Gerald Ford was president. And he's never done anything, never
- 1:28Speaker 3: done anything. And he, uh, you know, he filed separate
- 1:32Speaker 3: taxes from his wife. So he says, I'm not getting rich,
- 1:34Speaker 3: but he's got a nice measure. His wife has a
- 1:36Speaker 3: nice mansion in Chevy chase. He barely, he, he, I
- 1:40Speaker 3: don't think he spends any time in Massachusetts. I mean, he's.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I guess this is good news for Chuck Schumer, though,
- 1:46Speaker 3: because I think Seth Moulton would vote to, like so
- 1:50Speaker 3: many of the others, would vote to get rid of
- 1:51Speaker 3: Chuck Schumer. But again, Chuck Schumer's a dead man walking himself,
- 1:55Speaker 3: isn't he?
- 1:56Speaker 1: Yeah. So what's the difference? Marky sounds like Schumer, a
- 1:59Speaker 1: guy who does nothing, been there too long.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:01Speaker 2: How did he survive?
- 2:06Speaker 3: I don't know. He's just, I guess maybe he's more
- 2:10Speaker 3: innocuous than Schumer.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 3: And he's, you know, he's, he's smart. And the only
- 2:15Speaker 3: time he's up here is when he's running for reelection.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Whereas Schumer, you know, he. I mean, you remember back
- 2:22Speaker 3: in the old days when he was first elected to
- 2:24Speaker 3: Congress and then when he was running against the Fonz.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I mean, he was this guy. The people in New
- 2:31Speaker 2: York used to show me this stuff.
- 2:32Speaker 3: You know, they have the sheets that, you know, what
- 2:38Speaker 3: the news events are of the day. And he knew
- 2:40Speaker 3: that there was nothing happening on Sunday. So every Sunday he.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Would be the first.
- 2:45Speaker 3: He would be the first, uh, you know, guy on the, uh,
- 2:48Speaker 3: on the, the sheet that, that went out to all
- 2:50Speaker 3: the TV stations and the newspapers and the wire services. And,
- 2:54Speaker 3: you know, Marky, Marky has been smart enough not to,
- 2:56Speaker 3: I mean, you know, when he just raises his head, like,
- 2:59Speaker 3: you know, when the Patriots last won the Superbowl, he
- 3:01Speaker 3: congratulated the Boston Patriots, which, you know, they haven't been
- 3:07Speaker 3: the Boston Patriots since 1970, but he didn't know.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Well, Uh, yeah, he's kind of like, uh, it's like
- 3:16Speaker 1: Howard Stern, these old fossils after 75 years, you got
- 3:19Speaker 1: to quit. You got to go, uh, Schumer. So, Hey, uh,
- 3:24Speaker 1: you're a protege there, Caroline Levitt stepping down. What do
- 3:27Speaker 1: you think she'll do next?
- 3:30Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I think, I think she's going to
- 3:32Speaker 3: go to work for MAGA, but I think that just seems,
- 3:35Speaker 3: I would think that's just sort of a, uh, you know, a, uh,
- 3:38Speaker 3: transitional place for her.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean, do you think she goes
- 3:43Speaker 2: to work for Fox?
- 3:44Speaker 1: Yeah, well, you trained her. I know she's got a
- 3:46Speaker 1: standing offer at Fox. But I can imagine her having
- 3:49Speaker 1: a huge TV career at some point. A lot of
- 3:53Speaker 1: those ex-press secretaries do. Dana Perino, Kayleigh McEnany. Yeah, that's
- 3:59Speaker 1: where she'll end up.
- 3:59Speaker 3: I just don't know what the long-term future is for
- 4:03Speaker 3: the cable TV stations.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I know they'll be around for a while, but.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Is that really the way to go, or is it
- 4:11Speaker 3: better to just get into streaming and just try to
- 4:15Speaker 3: anticipate the next wave?
- 4:19Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 4:19Speaker 1: I don't know. Fox is pretty good over there. They
- 4:22Speaker 1: send you a big limousine to pick you up. They
- 4:24Speaker 1: got a buffet outside the studio. They got makeup. You
- 4:28Speaker 1: don't get all that with the streaming. It's not the same.
- 4:30Speaker 1: It's pretty nice.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah. It goes fast.
- 4:35Speaker 3: As Ernest Hemingway said, first you go bankrupt gradually, then suddenly.
- 4:40Speaker 3: It happens quickly in the media, Mark. You may have
- 4:43Speaker 3: noticed in the last few decades. What is happening at CBS,
- 4:48Speaker 3: by the way? What are they doing?
- 4:50Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 4:51Speaker 1: That's not going to go well. You know, 60 Minutes,
- 4:54Speaker 1: if this were Don Hewitt and the real 60 Minutes,
- 4:57Speaker 1: and you saw this fraud and that kid exposing old
- 5:00Speaker 1: Nick Shirley, wouldn't they send Mike Wallace right away? When,
- 5:04Speaker 1: how could they ignore a story like that and not
- 5:06Speaker 1: cover it?
- 5:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I, I don't, I don't know.
- 5:10Speaker 3: I mean, who are the, who are these new people
- 5:12Speaker 3: that they're bringing in? I mean, they, they don't, uh, they,
- 5:14Speaker 3: do they, do they know anything about TV news? I mean, not,
- 5:17Speaker 3: not that you have to know a lot, but I
- 5:20Speaker 3: don't think they seem to have any experience.
- 5:22Speaker 1: No, I don't know how they get in the building.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Cause nobody, nobody's going to recognize them or know the name,
- 5:27Speaker 1: get in past that guard. But, uh, Hey, let me
- 5:31Speaker 1: ask you something. I was talking about this yesterday. You're
- 5:33Speaker 1: the Kennedy expert. You've written the best books on the Kennedys.
- 5:36Speaker 1: They don't want Trump's name on the Kennedy Center. They're
- 5:39Speaker 1: all up in arms. If these liberals today, if these
- 5:41Speaker 1: Democrats today knew what John F. Kennedy stood for, his
- 5:44Speaker 1: political positions, wouldn't they want his name off the building too?
- 5:48Speaker 1: He was anti-abortion. He was pro-war. He was a tax cutter.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Wouldn't they hate him as much?
- 5:53Speaker 3: He couldn't get on the ballot in Massachusetts because you've
- 5:56Speaker 3: got to get 15% of the vote at the state
- 5:59Speaker 3: Democratic convention, and he couldn't do it. And by the way,
- 6:04Speaker 3: didn't he build a pool in the White House and
- 6:07Speaker 3: nobody said anything?
- 6:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 3: And then Nixon didn't like the pool, so Nixon built
- 6:13Speaker 3: a bowling alley over it and nobody said anything. Didn't
- 6:16Speaker 3: Obama build a— build a basketball court going way back.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Another Massachusetts president Coolidge built a, built.
- 6:25Speaker 2: A tennis courts.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I mean, what is the big deal here?
- 6:29Speaker 3: I mean, I think we have, I think as one
- 6:31Speaker 3: of the Supreme court justices noted, I think we have
- 6:33Speaker 3: a precedent here for allowing to do a little work
- 6:38Speaker 3: on the white house.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Don't we?
- 6:40Speaker 1: Very good point. Hey, the midterms, the criticism of the Republicans, uh,
- 6:45Speaker 1: is they don't have their messaging going. They don't have
- 6:47Speaker 1: a message. They don't have the right campaign going.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Do you agree?
- 6:51Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, I wish it were, again, I think
- 6:55Speaker 3: I've said this before on the show, but I just,
- 6:57Speaker 3: I'm most worried about the fuel prices. You know, it's,
- 7:02Speaker 3: you know, gasoline and diesel, which affects everything that's delivered.
- 7:07Speaker 2: And now we're getting into the fall and.
- 7:10Speaker 3: That means home heating oil is I mean, that's what
- 7:13Speaker 3: they've got to get under control. I mean, I'm not
- 7:17Speaker 3: as gloomy as most people. You know these stories, Texas
- 7:21Speaker 3: is in play. Well, isn't that like a standing head
- 7:25Speaker 3: in regime-controlled media? Wasn't Beto O'Rourke going to defeat Ted Cruz?
- 7:32Speaker 2: I mean, we've heard.
- 7:33Speaker 3: This stuff before, and I just don't see it happening. And,
- 7:40Speaker 3: you know, I mean, and again, there's some there's some
- 7:42Speaker 3: states that shouldn't be in play that are for Republicans
- 7:45Speaker 3: like Michigan. I mean, that guy, Al-Said, I mean, I
- 7:50Speaker 3: was so glad yesterday that Congresswoman McClain finally asked the
- 7:54Speaker 3: question that I've been wondering why no one in the
- 7:57Speaker 3: media will ask. If Medicare for all is so good,
- 8:01Speaker 3: why doesn't Al-Said's wife, who's a psychiatrist, accept Medicare, Medicaid
- 8:06Speaker 3: patients into her practice? Yeah.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Yeah, no, great point. But you know who benefits from
- 8:12Speaker 1: all of this? AOC was the crazy radical. Now, after
- 8:16Speaker 1: all these El-Sayeds show up, she looks like Margaret Thatcher
- 8:20Speaker 1: compared to these people. This is going to help her
- 8:21Speaker 1: run in 2028 if she wants.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Yeah, but once this kind of revolution gets going here,
- 8:27Speaker 3: you know, I mean, this is the pattern, isn't it?
- 8:30Speaker 3: They just keep eating their own food. And they just–
- 8:34Speaker 3: so she– I mean, you know, if this follows the
- 8:37Speaker 3: pattern of, say, the French Revolution or the Roman Republic
- 8:40Speaker 3: going back to the death of Julius Caesar, I mean,
- 8:43Speaker 3: she's going to be taken out eventually too, right?
- 8:46Speaker 1: That's a good point because I don't think these– Chuck Schumer,
- 8:49Speaker 1: Hakeem Jeffries, these types don't realize. You can cater to
- 8:51Speaker 1: them and bow down to this DSA. But you're right.
- 8:55Speaker 1: That's the– every dictator, the first people they hang are the–
- 8:58Speaker 1: The leaders that were trying to appease him.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Leon Trotsky could tell you that story if he were
- 9:02Speaker 3: still around. How about what happened to Brad Lander the
- 9:05Speaker 3: other day?
- 9:06Speaker 2: You know? He did their dirty work for them. He
- 9:11Speaker 2: was Kerensky, the white Russian for them. And then.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Lenin and Stalin turned around and they're going to whack him.
- 9:19Speaker 3: He's going to get whacked in the next primary, right?
- 9:21Speaker 1: Well, it couldn't happen to a worse guy, so I
- 9:23Speaker 1: don't mind.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I know. I know. It's hard to shed any tears
- 9:27Speaker 2: for any of these people.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Well, Howie Carr, great. Hey, you should read Howie Carr's books.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I love Kennedy Babylon, the Kennedy books, the Whitey Bulger books.
- 9:36Speaker 1: But what's your latest book you got coming out?
- 9:38Speaker 3: Yeah, Mass Corruption, Volume 2. I'm doing pre-orders now. We
- 9:43Speaker 3: just sent the final galleys.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Over to the printer. It'll be printed in October.
- 9:49Speaker 3: It's about all the continuing corruption in Massachusetts, which just,
- 9:52Speaker 3: it just never ends. And You know, there've already been
- 9:55Speaker 3: new scandals since I finished writing it, but uh, you
- 9:59Speaker 3: can order it now, go to how we car show.com
- 10:01Speaker 3: and click on store. And, uh, you can, uh, you
- 10:04Speaker 3: can order mass corruption to say five bucks pre-order.
- 10:07Speaker 2: It'll arrive in October.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Yeah. You know, I went to school in Boston. It
- 10:10Speaker 1: was a nice, wonderful new England. I had no idea
- 10:13Speaker 1: what was going on until I read your book, the
- 10:15Speaker 1: brother's bulger and mass corruption. And Who knew this stuff
- 10:18Speaker 1: was going on there behind the scenes?
- 10:21Speaker 2: You should see what's going on.
- 10:22Speaker 3: We're breaking stories every week about state police being arrested.
- 10:25Speaker 3: The stuff they're doing is just, it's horrible. When I
- 10:28Speaker 3: was a kid, the state police were incorruptible. Now they're
- 10:32Speaker 3: anything but. And yeah, I don't know. The city on
- 10:38Speaker 3: the hill is not what it used to be. The
- 10:41Speaker 3: governor went to it, would not recognize it. Nor would
- 10:45Speaker 3: Cotton matter.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Hey, if you want to keep up on all this,
- 10:48Speaker 1: just listen to Howie Carr every day. You can get
- 10:50Speaker 1: him on the iHeart app, iHeart Radio, Howie Carr's show,
- 10:54Speaker 1: Howie Carr's podcast. You can get his books. Just go
- 10:57Speaker 1: to his website. You can get everything there, HowieCarrShow.com, HowieCarrShow.com.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Great talking to you, Howie Carr. Thanks for being with us.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Thanks, Mark. Always a pleasure. Bye-bye. Take care.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Hey, don't forget the show is three hours now, 9
- 11:12Speaker 1: to noon every day, 9 to noon every day. So
- 11:16Speaker 1: don't forget we start at 9 o'clock now. And then
- 11:18Speaker 1: at noon you've got Buck and Clay. They do a
- 11:20Speaker 1: wonderful show every day, 12 noon. And you've got the
- 11:23Speaker 1: most listened to radio show in America, Sean Hannity at 3.
- 11:26Speaker 1: You've got Jesse Kelly at 6. Jimmy Fela at maybe
- 11:30Speaker 1: the funniest show on radio. It's right here every night,
- 11:33Speaker 1: 9 to midnight on 710WOR. com.
