- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to the br Handoff presented by Verizon. I'm your
- 0:02Speaker 1: host Nick Bolton. For the next few weeks, a couple
- 0:05Speaker 1: of NFL starts will tune in and give you the highlights,
- 0:07Speaker 1: the storylines and performances up during the week. At the
- 0:10Speaker 1: end of the show, I'm going to handoff hosting duties
- 0:13Speaker 1: to the next player. Stay tuned to the end to
- 0:15Speaker 1: see who it is. Fashion Team hosted last week and
- 0:17Speaker 1: he had a question for me to start off the
- 0:19Speaker 1: show with.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Each week, the hosts will ask the next host of question.
- 0:24Speaker 2: So my question to Nick is what is your pregame routine?
- 0:27Speaker 2: What does that look like like? Who's your favorite artists
- 0:30Speaker 2: you like to listen to before the game? Do you
- 0:32Speaker 2: have a pregame meal, etc. I would like to know
- 0:35Speaker 2: the answer. My dog, obviously you're a baller doing your
- 0:38Speaker 2: thing in Kansas City. Shout out to you. Can't wait
- 0:40Speaker 2: to hear that answer.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I kind of mix it up Pat a little bit
- 0:43Speaker 1: of everything, kind of depending on what the day is.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Sleep is big for me.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I sleep a lot, regardless of the noon game or
- 0:49Speaker 1: night game, so I do a lot of sleeping. Food wise,
- 0:53Speaker 1: ranola bar, maybe a little fruit yo grid if I'm
- 0:55Speaker 1: feeling a little special today. But other than that that,
- 0:57Speaker 1: I'm pretty basic. Music wise. It depends on the day,
- 1:01Speaker 1: kind of wake up, how I feel. Majority rap music.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Might throw a little country in there if I need
- 1:05Speaker 1: to calm down. I'm too well for the game. But
- 1:07Speaker 1: for the most part, just a little little baby, a
- 1:09Speaker 1: little Dirk, just a little mixer, a little bit of
- 1:11Speaker 1: everybody trying to get ready for the game. Chiefs Kingdom
- 1:14Speaker 1: starting off for the positive note. Travis Kelsey set the
- 1:16Speaker 1: all time Chiefs touchdown record versus the Broncos. Just want
- 1:19Speaker 1: to give a shout out shout to him for everything
- 1:21Speaker 1: he's done for our community, our team, and our organization.
- 1:24Speaker 1: He's been the post I've been on leader, emotional leader,
- 1:28Speaker 1: was there every day a day in and day out.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Putting the extra work.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Kind of teaches the young guys, including myself, on what
- 1:34Speaker 1: it meant to be a true pro. So I just
- 1:35Speaker 1: want to give him a special shout out for all
- 1:37Speaker 1: things he's done and being an extra Chiefs Kingdom's history
- 1:40Speaker 1: for forever. Looking ahead for the rest of the season,
- 1:43Speaker 1: Chiefs fans, I feel like overall as a team.
- 1:46Speaker 3: We just got to play a little bit better.
- 1:48Speaker 1: We got a lot of young guys and vet guys
- 1:49Speaker 1: meshing together, and we're getting to that part of season
- 1:51Speaker 1: where every win counts, every week counts, and.
- 1:54Speaker 3: It starts this week at home.
- 1:55Speaker 1: And so we've got to find a way to shrink
- 1:58Speaker 1: train together a couple of wins and give usself the
- 2:00Speaker 1: chance in the playoffs. Okay, let's whiskers now. A lot
- 2:02Speaker 1: of people are talking about the Mark Andrews first rushing touchdown.
- 2:06Speaker 1: He said it was a perfect scenario, and after washing
- 2:08Speaker 1: the tape, I kind of have to agree. The tist
- 2:10Speaker 1: push is hard to stop, but fake test push is
- 2:12Speaker 1: even harder. So let's break down as Mark Andrews thirty
- 2:15Speaker 1: five yard fake test push touchdown.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Yeah, so they start off.
- 2:18Speaker 1: They have three tight ends, fullback, running back in the game,
- 2:21Speaker 1: and Lamar Jackson's at the deep back here, he's at
- 2:24Speaker 1: the running back position. They start off, Cleveland does a
- 2:26Speaker 1: great job of taking all their interior gaps away with
- 2:29Speaker 1: all their bigger bodies trying to take away the sneak
- 2:31Speaker 1: and possible to be gaps. With the linebacker walking up,
- 2:34Speaker 1: it appears to me that they're in man. Assuming that
- 2:37Speaker 1: thirty three has Lamar Jackson based off his alignment being
- 2:40Speaker 1: at four yards and so he's probably a man coverage
- 2:42Speaker 1: taking Lamar Jackson out. They recognized it, had a great
- 2:45Speaker 1: play call. A little misdirection kind of got thirty three
- 2:48Speaker 1: to come over to the side.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Right here, they're man coverage. This guy gets blocked out.
- 2:52Speaker 1: They steal the backer with all sudden I believe right there,
- 2:56Speaker 1: and after that's eighty eight out the gate. The other
- 2:58Speaker 1: man covers. He has the down tight end. Twenty one
- 3:01Speaker 1: has a down tight end. I believes in me. The
- 3:02Speaker 1: thirty's puntl for the Derrick Henny right there, thirty three
- 3:06Speaker 1: has a quarterback and then they walked this guy up.
- 3:08Speaker 1: It's either a man coverage or he's the blitzer in
- 3:11Speaker 1: this specific scheme. He puts in the B gap. So
- 3:14Speaker 1: they kind of got everybody has a man, everybody has
- 3:16Speaker 1: a gap, and started to play. That's off in good shape.
- 3:19Speaker 1: The misdirection kind of fools him a little bit and
- 3:22Speaker 1: theylliles alson and carve up the backside backer baseb off
- 3:27Speaker 1: the linement at the d N right there it is.
- 3:28Speaker 3: It's sealed.
- 3:29Speaker 1: So they got everybody block, got a hat for a hat,
- 3:31Speaker 1: and you've lost the post player with the direction of
- 3:34Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson going out to the right. So yeah, it's
- 3:36Speaker 1: a great play call of versus the perfect play. Mark
- 3:39Speaker 1: Andrews got his first rushing touchdown of his career. Speaking
- 3:42Speaker 1: of the test push, this past offseason, the Lions voted
- 3:45Speaker 1: not to ban the test push, and Dan Campbell shows
- 3:48Speaker 1: us why although the Lions didn't win the game, they
- 3:50Speaker 1: still find a way to successfully defend two test pushes
- 3:52Speaker 1: back to back. I'll just take a look at this
- 3:54Speaker 1: thirty one. We can figure out highly able to get
- 3:56Speaker 1: a stop here. So in the last one you kind
- 3:59Speaker 1: of see the safety was a little deeper. He's back there,
- 4:01Speaker 1: So I believe in that probably playing some either a single
- 4:03Speaker 1: hot man or playing some cover three with the post safety.
- 4:07Speaker 1: They do a great job similar to the video before
- 4:10Speaker 1: of these guys taking away the sneak, putting those guys
- 4:13Speaker 1: in there and taking away the A gaps, B gaps.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Unfortunately to go a couple of gaps water, and I
- 4:17Speaker 1: believe that kind of helps us to get this guy
- 4:18Speaker 1: involved in the play right here, So try out to
- 4:21Speaker 1: play got a touch push. They do a great job
- 4:23Speaker 1: from knock back guy taking the legs out down here,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I'm stopping the middle push from the old line, and
- 4:29Speaker 1: it causes a kind of a wrecking ball of a play,
- 4:32Speaker 1: and this gives Acelonia a chance right here to come
- 4:35Speaker 1: by and hit it and hurting his legs. He's on
- 4:37Speaker 1: the block. He's gonna be the guy that's not in
- 4:39Speaker 1: the fit. I guess in their count. So him coming
- 4:42Speaker 1: from the side angle right here, stopping his legs completely
- 4:44Speaker 1: kills the touch push right here.
- 4:47Speaker 3: He gets in there.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Mid target tackle, takes his legs out, stops momentum, and
- 4:52Speaker 1: creates a fourth down to one for the next down.
- 4:55Speaker 1: And then as you fast forward, we're going to his
- 4:57Speaker 1: fourth and one. Similar play. Similar everybody's line up, the same,
- 5:00Speaker 1: same bodies got the D line taking away the A
- 5:03Speaker 1: gaps in the B gaps, got pushed bodies in the
- 5:05Speaker 1: back right behind, just kind of match the force that
- 5:09Speaker 1: the two back bodies are gonna push on. Jalen Hurts,
- 5:12Speaker 1: we changed bodies up here. I've still got the linebacker
- 5:14Speaker 1: off the edge. I'm blocking out a count of four,
- 5:16Speaker 1: and then you have a thirty two branch. He's in
- 5:19Speaker 1: there playing this gap, so they're gonna come down and
- 5:21Speaker 1: come block him or count him into the count.
- 5:23Speaker 3: I'm gonna sample the ball.
- 5:23Speaker 1: You see the same thing on the on the from
- 5:26Speaker 1: the first play, middle push calls him to stop his feet.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Linebacker comes off the edge, hits him in the legs,
- 5:32Speaker 1: stop his full momentum. And then after that you see
- 5:34Speaker 1: the guys rally pushing the guys from behind, and uh,
- 5:37Speaker 1: you got it, man, you got a fourth and one stop.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I was huge for them in this game. Yeah, moving
- 5:40Speaker 1: forward as season progresses, this is a copycat league, so
- 5:43Speaker 1: I definitely see guys trying to take an opportunity to
- 5:46Speaker 1: repeat similar success sending guys off the edge. See they
- 5:49Speaker 1: can get some negative plays and stop some of the
- 5:51Speaker 1: test push charged from the old line. But yeah, man,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I think this is great for for for them. I
- 5:56Speaker 1: honestly don't think they'll stop teams fro running the test push.
- 5:58Speaker 1: It's been such a great play. It's effective, especially near
- 6:01Speaker 1: the goal line. It's a high reward, low risk play
- 6:04Speaker 1: for the offense. So I feel like they're going to
- 6:06Speaker 1: continue to run the touch push, find different ways of
- 6:10Speaker 1: innovate it make it difficult for us on defense to adjust.
- 6:13Speaker 1: But obviously having this having the linebackers off the edge
- 6:16Speaker 1: stopping the quarterback from moving his body two or three yards.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I think it was a great, great idea and hopefully
- 6:22Speaker 1: guys us it going forward. Now it's time for the
- 6:24Speaker 1: better deal segment, and today I'm picking between one guy's
- 6:27Speaker 1: six touchdowns. So we're trying to figure out what's more impressive,
- 6:30Speaker 1: Josh Allen's three rushing tds or his three passing tds. Obviously,
- 6:34Speaker 1: we've gone against Josh several times. I had a great
- 6:36Speaker 1: lot of great opportunities to go against him, and he's
- 6:39Speaker 1: a great quarterback, great athlete. His vision IQ of the game,
- 6:43Speaker 1: you definitely can tell that he's on his on his
- 6:45Speaker 1: stuff weekend and week out and makes it very hard
- 6:47Speaker 1: for defenses. But personally, if I'm going to pick between
- 6:51Speaker 1: his three rushing tds or his three passing tds, I
- 6:54Speaker 1: got to go to the passing tds. Uh running Russian tds.
- 6:57Speaker 1: As a quarterback, I mean, they're good, but the past
- 7:00Speaker 1: city is where you're making money, and those he's giving
- 7:02Speaker 1: the ball to his guys out in space give an
- 7:03Speaker 1: opportunity to make plays with their legs and their feet. Obviously,
- 7:07Speaker 1: reading coverages is not the easiest thing in the world
- 7:08Speaker 1: to do a touchdown Right here with Dalvin Cook, being
- 7:11Speaker 1: able to run play action, recognize his man coverage, found
- 7:15Speaker 1: the one on one he was looking for the liverball
- 7:17Speaker 1: on time, went on target. So that gotta give credit
- 7:19Speaker 1: to the passing touchdowns this week. So I feel like
- 7:22Speaker 1: everybody has seen it. But there's a viral clip of
- 7:25Speaker 1: Washington for some misstackles everywhere this past week. I saw
- 7:28Speaker 1: two of them. There was one play where he's hurtling guys.
- 7:30Speaker 1: There's one play where's stive farming guys and running guys over.
- 7:33Speaker 1: So this kind of had me thinking this week, I'm
- 7:35Speaker 1: trying to figure out who's the top five hardest guys
- 7:38Speaker 1: for me to tackle. I'm a little objective a little bit,
- 7:41Speaker 1: but I'm a linebacker. But here's my list. Is what
- 7:43Speaker 1: I'm want to go with. Number five. We're gonna go
- 7:47Speaker 1: with Amar Jackson. Everybody knows that that guy's electricity with
- 7:50Speaker 1: the ball, making guys miss out in space zone reeves
- 7:53Speaker 1: while he's dropping back design run design runs or ab
- 7:57Speaker 1: living and making plays with his feet. I do his
- 7:59Speaker 1: electric with the football before. I'm gonna go with Jonathan Taylor.
- 8:01Speaker 1: It's probably one of the one of the best backs
- 8:03Speaker 1: in the league this year, if not the best. A
- 8:06Speaker 1: lot with the football, making guys miss yards with the contact,
- 8:09Speaker 1: yards before contact, a little bit of everything. Uh, he's
- 8:12Speaker 1: a great player. I look actually look forward to his
- 8:14Speaker 1: talents this week. Come in at number three. I'm gonna
- 8:17Speaker 1: do a b John Robinson. That guy's been a hard
- 8:19Speaker 1: tackle for everybody in the lease since he's been here
- 8:21Speaker 1: in the NFL. It's electricity with the football, out the
- 8:24Speaker 1: backfield in past game, uh, inside zone, outside zone, perimeter plays.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Put him out there, Roy receiver does a little bit
- 8:30Speaker 1: of everything for those guys. So I'm gonna put him
- 8:32Speaker 1: at number three, number two, number two, and go, say
- 8:36Speaker 1: Kwan Barkley, I all understand how electric he is with the ball.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Saw him spin and hurdle and the same play last
- 8:43Speaker 1: year that was pretty crazy. But also the small things
- 8:46Speaker 1: he does breaking making guys missed in the box and
- 8:48Speaker 1: taking to the house, jump jump cuts out the backfield,
- 8:51Speaker 1: real routes. I just a little bit of everything as well.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Uh. The number one, I'm gon to go with Jamyer Gibbs.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I have a chance to play play this guy his
- 8:58Speaker 1: rookie year, his very first game, and I understand that
- 9:01Speaker 1: he's gonna be a hard tackle in this league. Uh,
- 9:03Speaker 1: he just a little at everything, kind of like the
- 9:05Speaker 1: last last couple of guys I've mentioned on the list,
- 9:07Speaker 1: But for me, I think his speed takes him to
- 9:09Speaker 1: a different level. He's a fast guy, he's a smaller guy.
- 9:11Speaker 1: He kind of lose him in traffic and then he
- 9:13Speaker 1: makes one cove and he's gone. So I got a
- 9:15Speaker 1: lot of props for that guy. Jamier giz Me is
- 9:17Speaker 1: probably the hardest to tackle the NFL. College football fans,
- 9:20Speaker 1: especially Ray Raider fans, the linebacker Jacob bartd Riguez this
- 9:24Speaker 1: season has been completely outstanding. We're trying to get him
- 9:28Speaker 1: in a Harvard conversation, especially Pat, but he's put up
- 9:31Speaker 1: extremely high numbers.
- 9:32Speaker 3: He's got ninety seven.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Total tackles, seven forced fumbles, six pass reflections, four interceptions,
- 9:37Speaker 1: and last week they got him in the end zone
- 9:39Speaker 1: with a rushing touchdown. So I'm with Pat man, I
- 9:42Speaker 1: get this guy down there in New York. Yeah, a
- 9:45Speaker 1: lot of guys get the opportunity on defense and when
- 9:47Speaker 1: that win that award. So I think it'd be really
- 9:50Speaker 1: cool to see him go out there. Obviously knowing my
- 9:53Speaker 1: teammate Pat went to Texas Tech and and I was
- 9:56Speaker 1: watched him up in close and personal. But having a
- 9:58Speaker 1: linebacker defensive player up for that award again, that's been
- 10:01Speaker 1: a while, I think since maybe two thousand and one
- 10:03Speaker 1: when Charles Woodson won it. I had to have a
- 10:05Speaker 1: defensive guy up there win the Heisman. So I'm a linebacker,
- 10:08Speaker 1: I'm a defensive player. I'm all for it, So hopefully
- 10:11Speaker 1: we get him down there. With that being said, I'm
- 10:13Speaker 1: going to build the ideal linebacker. I think that will
- 10:16Speaker 1: win the Heisman. But y'all let me know what your
- 10:18Speaker 1: opinions are and if you had any changes. I started
- 10:21Speaker 1: first tackling ray Lewis, NFL leading tackler, had a billion
- 10:25Speaker 1: one tackles at the U. So I'm going to start
- 10:27Speaker 1: off the list with ray Lewis football IQ. Everybody loves
- 10:31Speaker 1: this guy's IQ, including myself. Everybody talked about it at
- 10:34Speaker 1: BC all they opportunities at Carolina. I'm going with Louke
- 10:37Speaker 1: Kinckley for football IQ. Following Louke Kinckley, we have toughness
- 10:41Speaker 1: and actually he's one of his running mates. Thomas Davis.
- 10:45Speaker 1: The dude came into the league, had three I believe
- 10:47Speaker 1: three A cl injuries on his knee and still still
- 10:51Speaker 1: play I think close to ten eleven years in the
- 10:53Speaker 1: league and I had successful career, so toughness I could
- 10:55Speaker 1: give that one. With Thomas Davis. Following Thomas Davis, we
- 10:58Speaker 1: got leadership. He's been doing it for very long time.
- 11:00Speaker 1: It's been on or three different franchises. I'm getting it
- 11:03Speaker 1: done in Seattle at the Commanders and also at the Rams.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Bobby Wagner.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I actually had a chance to talk to Bobby in
- 11:10Speaker 1: my pre draft and then my first couple of years
- 11:12Speaker 1: in the league. Definitely a great leader. I motivated this guys.
- 11:15Speaker 1: This guy's going weekend and week out. So I got
- 11:17Speaker 1: to go leadership with Bobby. And then coverage. Everybody loves coverage,
- 11:21Speaker 1: especially how the game is played in the modern area.
- 11:24Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm going with Fred Warner as my covers backer.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I think with those five qualities, with those five guys,
- 11:28Speaker 1: I think I got a great backer with a great
- 11:30Speaker 1: chance win the Heisman.
- 11:31Speaker 3: That's all I got for today.
- 11:33Speaker 1: I'm handing it off to day On Henley for next
- 11:34Speaker 1: week's episode of bur Handoff. Last week, Pastor Tan ask
- 11:38Speaker 1: me my question, and now this week my question goes
- 11:40Speaker 1: out to you would you rather have thirty degree weather
- 11:43Speaker 1: and sunny or eighty degree weather and rainy. I know
- 11:46Speaker 1: you're a south South Cali guy. I just want to
- 11:48Speaker 1: make sure that you got got your mind in the
- 11:50Speaker 1: right spot. Hopefully you picking the right answer, but we'll
- 11:53Speaker 1: know next week. That's it for the BR Handoff presented
- 11:55Speaker 1: by Verizon. Catch you next time.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Eight secon
