  SPEAKER_00: As it was told to me, a missionary friend in Africa stood up, preached for an hour, and sat down.

  SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Liza Nicole, and this is Heart Copy Journal.

  SPEAKER_00: Today, a missionary, a question I asked God, and the sentence I told myself every morning through graduate school.

  SPEAKER_00: I was living in New Jersey when a friend of mine at church told me about a missionary who went to Africa.

  SPEAKER_00: People traveled for like three days to hear him.

  SPEAKER_00: He got up and preached for about an hour and then stopped and then sat down.

  SPEAKER_00: And everyone just stared at him, like, what are you doing?

  SPEAKER_00: He said, Well, that was my message.

  SPEAKER_00: And the pastor who had invited him, he's like, Brother, these people have come for three days to hear the word of God.

  SPEAKER_00: So he got back up and he preached for another six to eight hours.

  SPEAKER_00: I was blown away, deeply convicted at both.

  SPEAKER_00: I was amazed, blown away, and was deeply convicted both at once.

  SPEAKER_00: I was blown away, deeply convicted all at the same time.

  SPEAKER_00: I said, Lord, I repent.

  SPEAKER_00: If there's one message that you want me to preach, if I ever had an opportunity, what is it?

  SPEAKER_00: And the Lord said, I want you I want you to preach the same thing I did two thousand years ago.

  SPEAKER_00: I said, Okay, Lord, what is that?

  SPEAKER_00: The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

  SPEAKER_00: Repent and believe.

  SPEAKER_00: That's my life's message.

  SPEAKER_00: And I had known Matthew six for years, seek the kingdom and its righteousness, and these things would be added to you.

  SPEAKER_00: But I asked him, Lord, what does that look like practically?

  SPEAKER_00: What do I do on an ordinary Tuesday?

  SPEAKER_00: Holy Spirit prompted me to open up Luke ten at verse thirty-eight.

  SPEAKER_00: As they traveled along, Jesus entered the village where a woman Martha welcomed him into her home, and she had a sister Mary who sat at the Lord's feet to listen to his message.

  SPEAKER_00: But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.

  SPEAKER_00: She came to Jesus and said, Lord, do you not care that my sister was left has left me to serve alone?

  SPEAKER_00: Tell her to help me.

  SPEAKER_00: Martha, Martha, the Lord replied, You are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is necessary.

  SPEAKER_00: Mary has chosen the good portion, and it will not be taken away from her.

  SPEAKER_00: This is what it looked like to seek first the kingdom.

  SPEAKER_00: I was in graduate school at the time, and there were days I looked what in front of me.

  SPEAKER_00: There were days when I looked at what was in front of me and thought, there is no way I can do this.

  SPEAKER_00: Like every day, it was like I can't do this every day.

  SPEAKER_00: I can't understand it, I can't get through it.

  SPEAKER_00: I think we kind of feel that way about the word of God at times, or any like really complex venture that we have in front of us.

  SPEAKER_00: So every morning I would teach myself the word.

  SPEAKER_00: Liza, only one thing is necessary today.

  SPEAKER_00: Holy Spirit would just breathe on that in my heart.

  SPEAKER_00: Only one thing.
• 4:55
  SPEAKER_00: And I did that for many years because my mind was so easily distracted on thinking there were a hundred other things to handle.

  SPEAKER_00: And every morning I went back to the word.

  SPEAKER_00: So I say to you the way I said it to myself, only one thing is necessary today.

  SPEAKER_00: We choose that part, and it will not be taken away from us.
