- 1:03It. This one is called the gray Stone Ghosts. Stange is my stock
- 1:08and trade. If the job's too tough for you to hand it, you've
- 1:11got a job for me. George Valentine. Right full the tail Standard Oil
- 1:34Company of California invites you to let George do It. In just a moment,
- 1:49will begin tonight's adventure of George Valentine. Right now, let's talk about
- 1:53a spring tonic for that car of yours. Heavy Duty RPM motor oil,
- 1:57the oil that we said would double engine life between major overhauls due to lubrication.
- 2:02Heavy Duty RPM was developed through a series of grueling laboratory and road tests
- 2:07which even utilized atomic energy. Now here's added evidence of heavy gouty RPM superiority.
- 2:15A cab company operating in the tough grind all cabs go through found heavy
- 2:20duty RPM actually reduced engine ware seventy one more than doubling engine life. So
- 2:27why take chances with your car when you can get the protection of heavy duty
- 2:30RPM motor oil at any independent Chevron gas station or standard station where they say
- 2:37and mean we take better care of your car. The Graystone Ghost another adventure
- 2:49of George Valentine. Who's that? What is it? I'll be read?
- 3:05Oh no, no, Garrett, it isn't you out there? It can't
- 3:10be. You're dead. I must be reading dead, I must be.
- 3:21Well, you get it? You be there just a month ago? What
- 3:24you weren't there? Well you you're dead. Don't you get it? You
- 3:30couldn't you just cotton cot George? Because is the strangest layer out everywhere.
- 3:47I'm sure we get some strange ones. Dear mister Valentine, will you please
- 3:53be my guest at Graystone for a few days. I'm prepared to play whatever
- 3:55you ask for your services. Your work will be to Riddney of a ghost
- 4:00that I'm sure isn't a ghost at all. When you arrive, please cough
- 4:04from the telephone at the gatekeeper's lodge, as you won't be able to get
- 4:09across the moat until I lower the drawbridge. Signed them on to Gray.
- 4:28Down comes the drawbridge excites the imagination personally, I think, imagine the bridge
- 4:35over the moat is down. We ended the palace. It certainly looks like
- 4:39one. Mister Ben Til Yes, missus Gray coming right in? Suppose she
- 4:45goes the bridge backup? How do we get out of here? We'll face
- 4:46that problem when we come to it, as is Gray. This is miss
- 4:50Brooks my assistance. How do you, my dear, I'm happy to have
- 4:55yes, dry, I think we finish all of our business for today.
- 5:00So oh you have guessed? Yes, of course. Dwight. I want
- 5:04you to meet mister Valentine and miss Brooks. Mister Dwight owned my attorney.
- 5:09How do you do. Please come out to help me, Dwight. He's
- 5:12going to help find out about these things. Oh, yes, well,
- 5:15I certainly hope you can. Valentine, a man is pretty upset about the
- 5:20whole thing. I hope I can't too, mister h are you. I
- 5:24just don't have it I know what my job is yet. Oh, well,
- 5:26of course you don't. If you'll excuse me, goodbye, man,
- 5:29I'll see you, yes, right, and now if you tool step in
- 5:32a little farther it, come in study. Please. I expect you to
- 5:47think I'm completely crazy, don't you. No, I won't blame you if
- 5:53you did. A woman living in a house with a moat around it this
- 5:57day and alien, Oh, there must be a reason for any cross stairs
- 6:00a sit down for. My husband was an architect. His name was Garrett
- 6:05Gray. Oh, yes, I've heard of him. He was notority on
- 6:09old English architecture. He loved it. That's why he brought His house was
- 6:14a short place. I can see that. It was. The bridge over
- 6:16the moon was set and raised before his death. But since then things had
- 6:23happened. It needed quite necessary, I see. Oh would you tell us
- 6:28exactly what has happened, missus Green? Certainly, my husband died a month
- 6:32ago, just two weeks ago. I was awakened to see his face in
- 6:38my bedroom window. You do, of course I didn't. I told her
- 6:44my husband is dead. I saw him buried. And how do you account
- 6:47for the seen his face? It's quite simple. Some years ago a scoop
- 6:51defriend of Garrett's, did a bust of him. The next morning after my
- 6:57apparition, I on the bust on the ground outside my bedroom window. Some
- 7:04practical joker. I suppose. They seldom have any regard for personal feelings.
- 7:08I know, but my practical joker must have had extraordinary powers. Mister Valentine.
- 7:14The house was completely locked. The bust was in this room. Ah,
- 7:18I see a whole is here besides yourself, Missus Grey, just my
- 7:24niece and nephew, Ronald and Sylvia Gray. They are really my husband's niece
- 7:30and nephew. Of course they're Stevens. He's the butler, Missus Gray.
- 7:33Is that when you began raising that bridge over the moat? No, not
- 7:39until after the second thing happened. What was that? A large portrait of
- 7:44my husband disappeared over the metal in the living room one night. I searched
- 7:47everyone for it, to the Utalian Nisan nephew about it, of course,
- 7:50and Stevens too. They were all as amazed as I. The next day
- 7:57it was in place again. Well, Missus, why I still think somedood
- 8:01stains on it? Oh? And there were those signs that any of your
- 8:07household have been hurt, none at all. Well, one thing seems certain,
- 8:11Missus Gray. Somebody's trying to get you to move. I trt with
- 8:16you. I'm all sounded like an explosion of some kind. Stay here with
- 8:18Missus Gray Brooks. I'm going to see what this is all about. Hello,
- 8:26who are you? And what do you want? Just having to be
- 8:28a guest of Missus Gray, Valentine's and Amy, I am anagine your Stevens.
- 8:33Yes, what happened back there? I was just going to tell Missus
- 8:37Gray about it. There was an exclusion in the kitchen. Come on back,
- 8:41we'll have a look. Yes, but I must tell missus Grays.
- 8:43Come on, where's the kitchen? Right through this door? Styre gone?
- 8:48Oh well yeah, I stop that corner pretty well, didn't it. Yes,
- 8:52sir, I was in my room, the first one down the hall,
- 8:56and it practically threw me out of my chair, right I say this
- 9:00moment and the burned up fuse the wire running right out here. Come on,
- 9:07Stevens, let's follow this wire out the back. Don't see where it
- 9:09goes very well? But I feel very uncomfortable about this whole business. Things
- 9:15have been happening. That's why I'm here. I think there is a ghost
- 9:18around here, mister Vallings. And here's a live ghost around here, Stevens,
- 9:22A pretty clever live ghost too. Here take a look at this.
- 9:26Why that is my alarm clock. It disappeared yesterday, very mystuously, and
- 9:31I had it's all ragged up to spark that fuse at exactly this hour.
- 9:35The job was a little lamatorish, but it worked, didn't it, Stevens,
- 9:41Yes, sir, it didn't. But what I want to know is
- 9:45who could have done it? That's what I want to know, too,
- 9:48So come on, let's find out. You mean you have a way of
- 9:52knowing? Not sure. I just don't like all these things happening to my
- 9:54friend, missus Gray. Well, naturally neither do I, sir. Right,
- 10:00then do something for me. Get the niece and nephew, Sylvia and
- 10:03Ronald, and come to again. We're then as soon as possible, I'd
- 10:05like to have a little conference. Anna murmur Yes, Sylvia, who steven
- 10:22says, there's a man here who wants to see us. That's right,
- 10:24my dear, come in all three of us personally, mister Valentine. This
- 10:28is my niece Sylvia and my nephew, Ronald, and you've missed Steve.
- 10:33Yes, that's right. And miss Brooks, we're here, is your ansk.
- 10:37Yes, but we're also here to help her get rid of a live
- 10:41post. Mister Valentine, I don't like to say this. Isn't it possible?
- 10:48Forgive me, adam Man, I don't want to, right, my
- 10:50dear. You mean that perhaps I've been imagining things that's possible, isn't it.
- 10:56I feel just as Sylvia doesn't. Neither one of you or Steven's here.
- 11:00I saw the face in the window, of course, but you'll move
- 11:01about the portrait being missing. I must make a confession about the portrait,
- 11:05mister Valentine. After Missus Gray told me about it, I made a thorough
- 11:09search of the house. I found it in the storeroom and put it back
- 11:15quite belong with the blood stains on it. I expect I shall lose my
- 11:20position anyway, so I may as well say it. Did you notice the
- 11:22bendige on Missus Gray finger? Oh? No, no, I guess I
- 11:28didn't. But we've got another thing to think about. Ronald, Sylvia,
- 11:33didn't you hit explosion a few minutes ago? I didn't. I was asleep.
- 11:37I heard it. Of course, it sounded like a car back firing
- 11:39to me. Okay, then I want to ask you one thing. Don't
- 11:43you all think missus Gray should move out of this house? I do.
- 11:48If she doesn't, something really bad might happen to her. Well, I
- 11:50don't. If somebody is trying to make her move for some reason, you
- 11:56can find out who it is, can't you, mister Valentine? Yes,
- 12:00I think he cares. How about your Stevens. I happen to have one
- 12:03theory, mister Valentine. I don't agree with what I'm sure you are thinking.
- 12:07If I may say so, I don't think this is an inside job.
- 12:13Oh you don't know. And for one, I am happy to have
- 12:16you here. I just hope nothing bad happens to you too. Very nicely
- 12:22spoken Stevens. All right, we'll shawnas Brooks and me to our rooms,
- 12:26will freshen up for dinner, and tomorrow, well tomorrow, we'll see what
- 12:31happens. Is who's that? What do you want in my room? I
- 12:52can see you moving. I warn you I have a gun, go away
- 12:56or a shoot this room. You don't come any clus around time? Ray?
- 13:13I heard a shop on who's the delegation in my room on the floor,
- 13:18I think, I you so fucking in just a moment, will return
- 13:37to tonight's adventure of George Valentine. Take that moment, if you will to
- 13:43think back over the past year. How many times in the last twelve months
- 13:48have you had battery trouble? Did you know that American motorists have to call
- 13:52for emergency service because of battery failures more than ten million times a year,
- 13:56Yet most of these failures need never happen. Don't wait for trouble to come
- 14:01to you. Have your battery checked if it's just plain tired up. Plan
- 14:05not to get a new Atlas heavy duty battery. Atlas is the battery that's
- 14:09packed with power to give you good fast starting and also a supply power for
- 14:13your radio, heater or other accessories. Remember that you're probably going to be
- 14:18doing a lot of driving during the warm weather ahead. That's one good reason
- 14:22for having the secure feeling of a rugged, dependable Atlas battery under the hood.
- 14:28Atlas batteries are backed by a written warranty that's honored by more than thirty
- 14:33eight thousand Atlas dealers from coast to coast, and in Canada, two,
- 14:37so you know that no matter where you drive, your Atlas battery will be
- 14:41well taken care of, and if a replacement should be necessary, any one
- 14:46of those thirty eight thousand dealers is authorized to honor your warranty. Yes,
- 14:50you can help to avoid being among those motorists who will have to call for
- 14:54battery service ten million times this year. Just drive in soon and ask to
- 14:58se the new Atlas battery budget terms are available, and you can also use
- 15:05your Chevron National credit card to make your purchase at any independent Chevern gas station
- 15:09or standard station where they say and mean we take better care of your car.
- 15:33And now back to tonight's adventure of George Valentine. You're sent for by
- 15:39the widow of a well known architect to help her dispose of a ghost that
- 15:43isn't the ghost. You can see nothing supernatural in the face at the window,
- 15:46the disappearing portrait, or the crude bomb. Someone is obviously trying to
- 15:52frighten your client out of this strange house that is surrounded by a moat.
- 15:56If your name is George Valentine, you suspect that a man the gray has
- 16:00solved the case herself by shooting a nocturnal prowler in the room, and as
- 16:04you hurry with her on the hallway, you're, mister Valentine, all and
- 16:10white like a ghost. It opened the door and came into my room.
- 16:12I shot and it fell on the door. All right, now we'll find
- 16:17out down the hall. Brook say this is your own listeners, Yes,
- 16:21Ry know where's the white switch? It's right here. Where did you see
- 16:26this? Oh? It was someone? I know it. You are right,
- 16:32Missus Gray, Yes, yes, but your ghost left it's why sheet
- 16:34All right, Missus Gray, I'm afraid your aim wasn't so good. He
- 16:40or she has climbed out of the shroud and left shot. I didn't down
- 16:45the floor. Wait a minute, let's see your gun? Yes, yes,
- 16:48is here on my ta Something sounds pretty funny about this. Yeah,
- 16:53yeah, here's the answer. All right. You're sure this gun was properly
- 16:56loaded, Missus Gray. Yes, and men loaded it for me in the
- 17:00store. Well, I'm afraid something has happened in the meantime, George,
- 17:03what do you mean? This is great? I didn't kill anybody, Brook.
- 17:07See she couldn't because this gun is loaded with blank cartridges flesh. But
- 17:11it couldn't be mister Valentine, I saw him put in the real bullet.
- 17:17Oh, I'm sure he did, but someone else decided it would be safer
- 17:19this way. Somebody in this house, Jeworge, Oh, it's pretty obvious
- 17:23anyone coming in from outside would have to swim across the moat. I don't
- 17:26see any signs of water around here. The sheet is perfectly dry. This
- 17:29is great, This is great. I heard the commotion as anything wrong.
- 17:32Well, Stevens, you're quite well dressed for the middle of the night.
- 17:36I came as quickly as I could. And if you're trying to accuse me
- 17:37of sometime, yeah, gathering the clan, just one more party to be
- 17:42heard from. Now, what's the matter? Why are you all here an
- 17:47Anima's room? Your aunt shot a ghost, Sylvia, She was, yeah,
- 17:52what's that you said, Valentine? You heard me, Ronald. Pretty
- 17:56frightful experience for your aunt, for all of you, in fact, imagine
- 18:00a ghost in the house. But that's nonsense. There's no such thing as
- 18:03a real, live ghost. I think there is. I wonder if any
- 18:07of you would like to try on this sheet, just for si. Missus
- 18:11Valentine, I realize you're trying to help me. But now you're casting suspicions
- 18:15on Sylvia and Ronald and Steven's They wouldn't do anything like this. No,
- 18:21no, I suppose not. All right, we've had our little excitement for
- 18:25to night. Suppose you will go back to your arms. Eh. I'd
- 18:27like to ask a few questions of missus Gray. What are you thinking,
- 18:32George? Oh? I was just trying to go along with Stevens theory for
- 18:36a moment. You know that this isn't an inside job, as he so
- 18:40quietly puts it. But that is impossible, is it? Oh? I
- 18:44don't know, Missus Gray. Your husband left it, will, I suppose,
- 18:47of course. Well, then tell me. Was there any provision that
- 18:48someone else would get the house if you moved out of it? Oh?
- 18:52No, nothing like that. He left everything to me outright, just with
- 18:56a provision that I take care of his niece and nephew, see that they
- 18:59had a whole Well, I blast another theory. My husband left the holographic
- 19:04will wrote it himself. No, no one had ever seen it. It
- 19:08was sealed and in the safe at our attorneys. But the holographic world an
- 19:11unusual As a George, that part wasn't unusual. No, just one paragraph
- 19:18in it. I've never found out what it meant or what was it.
- 19:22I said something like, my beloved Amanda, there is more fortune than I
- 19:30leave you. It is in Graystone, and you alone will know the key
- 19:34to finding it. Just remember how well we loved Pennsylvania, and remember my
- 19:38work. This treasure is for you, and you only. I haven't the
- 19:44least idea. I've never been able to figure it out. I see the
- 19:48world, certainly, but not tonight. I return it right own. You
- 19:51met him this afternoon he has, remember, Yes, Well, tell me
- 19:55how many people know about this? Just the people to whom he left something,
- 19:57Sylvia and Ronald Stevens, He's secretary, mister Carver, and myself righthead
- 20:03is all together when he read it. The same people keep cropping up,
- 20:07don't they, George you? One exception? What about the secretary Carver?
- 20:10Where is he now? He's living in town, works for another architect.
- 20:14I believe I got his address. Yes, I'll get it for you good.
- 20:17And I'd like to see the exact wording in that clause in the world
- 20:19he's a word. You could have, mister Owen bring it out here tomorrow
- 20:22morning, of course, But I think I puted it almost word for work.
- 20:26I'm sure you have, but sometimes just one little word makes a difference.
- 20:30Very well, how cold, Dwight bursting in the morning here Angel in
- 20:45the study, Jorge, something else has happened, missus Bray and I just
- 20:49went in the morning room today and the place is a math darling, an
- 20:52old hutch cabinet assess been pried apart, and there an American chair was mister
- 20:59Valentine. I can't understand. I think I can. This is gray.
- 21:03It's probably our fault because we're here. I mean those early American pieces might
- 21:07be from Pennsylvania spots. I suppose, so at least it's a good try.
- 21:11Then might what are you talking about, George? Just but with us
- 21:14in the house to check up on what's going on, somebody's getting frantic to
- 21:18find the answer first. Oh here's the will a man, as you asked,
- 21:33I don't quite understand, though we've been over it many times. Yes,
- 21:37Dwight, I know I wanted mister Valentine to see you. Oh that's
- 21:41okay, nice. I suppose we could save a little time here. I'm
- 21:45just interested in one clause the Pennsylvania So that's why you got these people out
- 21:51here about it. No, Dwight, actually it isn't. Let me show
- 21:53you. Let's see, it's here. We are right here. Why you
- 22:03be loving, Amanda. There is more fortune than I leave you. It
- 22:06is in Graystown, and you alone will know the key to finding it.
- 22:10Just remember how well we love the state of Pennsylvania and what it symbolizes,
- 22:15and remember what I did about it in my work. This treasure is for
- 22:18you, and you only, Valentine, I must tell you, and I
- 22:23hope you will forgive me Amanda it. Garrett Gray was a little eccentric about
- 22:30thing, and also a pretty good architect, one of the best. By
- 22:36the way, mister On, did you know mister Gray's secretary Carver quite well?
- 22:40Oh yes, he's a nice sort of fellow. Any reason if you're
- 22:44asking that, Oh no, not at all. Understandsterested in everybody mister Gray
- 22:48mentioned in its way Miss Gray. Yes, mister Baron, I'm going to
- 22:52look up miss Brooks, and then would you mind lowing the bridge over the
- 22:55mode for us. You are not going to be here for lunch, it's
- 22:57almost ready. No, I'm sorry. I have some business of my own
- 23:00to take care of in town. We'll be back later though. I see
- 23:03you stay, won't you do? I? Oh, certainly, Amanda,
- 23:06I'd love too. I hope you will come back, mister Valentine in spite
- 23:10of everything that happened, Missus gray you don't have to worry about that.
- 23:12And when I get back, we'll have an answer to this thing. George,
- 23:26I'm sure you know what you're doing. I think so. For se
- 23:30well, I don't why. You see, we're up against a paradox.
- 23:33Nobody inside Graystone seemed to be guilty of those stunts, and nobody from outside
- 23:37could get in the paradox. Are one fact or the other had to be
- 23:41wrong, and I figured it must be the second. You mean, if
- 23:44somebody could get in some way. Sure, then I remembered seeing a pile
- 23:48of planks outside the house on the far side of the moat, the once
- 23:51you looked at when you came out. Yeah, that's right. That's when
- 23:53I knew I was right after dark. It wouldn't be hard to throw one
- 23:56of those planks across the mold and get in the house. You'd have a
- 23:59hard time. I'm proving that, wouldn't I don't think so. One of
- 24:02the planks had quite a lot of dried blood on it. Somebody had hurt
- 24:04himself on a rough edge, so I don't forget. There was also blood
- 24:07on that portrait that disappeared and then showed up. Oh yes, that's right.
- 24:11Well, where are we going now? Like a call in town for
- 24:15just a little more evidence. We can tell missus Gray who's trying to run
- 24:18her out of our house. It doesn't seem to be anyone in the apartment.
- 24:36Choice. Oh no, that's fine, much easier to find what I'm
- 24:38looking for. Come didn't find, but here he could have us arrested.
- 24:41I don't take that chance. Angel, they're gonna like this thing. Yeah,
- 24:45No, one's hutter. It's one in. Angel. Let's stay right
- 24:49there by the door, call out if anyone comes, Yes, all right,
- 24:53please be careful or would anybody be liable to him? Let's try this
- 25:02no soup desk maybe? Yeah, yeah, I thought so, Peter,
- 25:12George, I'm fired. You're right with the Angel. I struck pay dirt.
- 25:15Sure, take a look at this. Those are cartridges, that's right,
- 25:18a box partly full of blanks, plus some real shells. Angel.
- 25:22It looks as though we have this deal pretty well pinned down. What's next
- 25:26after we get out of this place, I'm not a fast telephone call to
- 25:29our client, and then a little later we'll go back out to Graystone and
- 25:32start some fireworks. All right, Missus Gray, you've got everybody in the
- 25:47study there all acceptmence to Carver. I called several numbers after I talk to
- 25:49you on the phone, but couldn't find him. Oh that's too bad.
- 25:53I'd like to have had him here. Well, let's get on with anyway.
- 25:56Come on in. Yes, I'm talking to George. You have really
- 26:02found something conserving, Missus Gray. Well, hello, there should well.
- 26:07I wanted you all here so I could put your minds at rest about these
- 26:11strange happenings out here. You mean you found up? Yes, yes,
- 26:15I believe we have. What is it? Come on, come and time?
- 26:18Tell us? Are you're sure you want me too? On? I
- 26:22don't know what you mean. You see, when we first met yesterday,
- 26:26I didn't notice that your left hand is bandaged, the one that you heard
- 26:30on those boards across the moon. You're making an accusation, that's right.
- 26:33It would have been the same night the portrait of mister Gray reappeared with blood
- 26:37on it. Mister Vant you can't be so afraid. I am missus Gray,
- 26:44you see her. And I took the liberty of looking around your apartment
- 26:47this afternoon, and I came across these meddling young food buet bullets that were
- 26:52taken out of your gun, the rest of blanks, just like the ones
- 26:56that replaced them. Do what. I can't believe you of all. I
- 27:00don't know what you can do to him. Of course, kind of a
- 27:03prowling, I suppose. Maybe if you're trying to frighten you to desks so
- 27:07we can have time to search the house for more treasure, possibly we can
- 27:10have in this Bard at least. I'm sure he won't be an attorney any
- 27:14longer. But George, you still haven't found what's hidden here. Now we'll
- 27:17find it now, all right, it says Gray. If you'll call in
- 27:19a couple of stone Masons as soon as possible, I think we can remove
- 27:22this temptation. If you're missing something in driving pleasure, if a sputtering motor
- 27:36has you hugging the side of the road, here's a suggestion. Before you
- 27:40spend any money for engine repairs, try a tankful of Chevron Supreme balanced gasoline.
- 27:45Chevin Supreme gives you all eight high performance qualities quick starting, fast warm
- 27:52up, smooth acceleration, vaporlock prevention, and enough full power, economy,
- 27:57mileage and area lending. Get top all around performances from your car. Drive
- 28:03in and fill her up with Chevern Supreme gasoline at any standard station or independent
- 28:08Chevron gas station where they say and mean we take better care of your car.
- 28:25George Angel, why are you having those ment down that stone arch over
- 28:29the trunk or yes, mister Valentine, I'm willing to do what you say.
- 28:32I finally figured out that clause in your husband's will, Missus Gray.
- 28:36The state of Pennsylvania and his work? How did they fit together? Simple?
- 28:41His work was architecture. Pennsylvania is the keystone states yo'd you figured that
- 28:45out? And the keystone is one of the important parts of architecture. There's
- 28:49only one in this house. Why I should have thought of that? Probably
- 28:52On would have liked to also, Oh, there, it looks like they've
- 28:56got into it. It was apparently hollow, all right, ad at Adam
- 29:00and that keystone was hollow, just as Valentine thought it would be. Is
- 29:04there anything? Of course, it's packed with currency, big bills. Come
- 29:07on, come and see. Yes, I'm coming brock Well, Angel,
- 29:11I guess we've got rid of missus Gray's ghost for nothing more for him to
- 29:15look for George. Do you know what I'd like a house just like this
- 29:22one with a moat around it, and you could hide something in the keystone
- 29:26for me. Oh no, I man at Angel, I'm still alive,
- 29:30you know. Oh prove it? Uh yeah, come on, broke see
- 29:37let's go eat good lines. Have venture of George Valentine has been brought to
- 30:00you by Standard Oil Company of California, on behalf of independent Chevron Gas Stations
- 30:07and Standard stations throughout the West. Robert Bailey is starred as George, with
- 30:11Virginia Gregg as Brook See. Let George Do It was written by Lloyd London
- 30:15and directed by Kenneth Webb. Geen Bates was heard as Amanda, Larry Dobkin
- 30:21as Owen, Polly Bear as Stevens, Jack Lloyd as Ronald, and Jean
- 30:26Tatum as Sylvia. The music was composed and presented by Eddie Dunsteader your announcer
- 30:30John Houston. Listen again next week, same time, same station to Let
- 30:40George Do It. Let George, do it has heard overseas through the worldwide
- 30:45facilities of the Armed Forces Radio Service. This is the mutual Don Lee Broadcasting
- 30:52System and welcome back. Another solution successfully brought about by George Valentine. An
- 31:15illustration of an answer I give. I'm part of. If you're on Facebook,
- 31:22they have a group called Old Time Radio Lovers and they post a lot
- 31:26of lengths and questions and just great old time radio discussion. There's sixteen hundred
- 31:33and ninety seven members currently, so a little less than our Great Detectives group,
- 31:37but a lot of discussion. And they ask a question, you suspect
- 31:42your business partner of some dirty dealing. What Golden age radio detective would you
- 31:47hire to get to the bottom of this? And why? I actually answered
- 31:51George Valentine. He seems to get the best results. Now. I know
- 31:56some folks take a question like that. It's like who is is uh the
- 32:01coolest m the coolest detective around? But I didn't look at it. It's
- 32:12who's actually going to be able to solve the problem? Uh? That I
- 32:16think is a big challenge. George Allenheine intended to get the best results.
- 32:22He has some clients die on him, and he has some cases that escalate
- 32:27to murder, but he seems to have a lower percentage than the others.
- 32:30So uh, you know, some people said Pat Nolvac for hire and Pete
- 32:35Kelly. Um, wow, those guys don't tend to get the best results,
- 32:40even though they're interesting to listen to. I'd probably rather listen to Pat
- 32:45Novac, but I'd rather hire George Valentine. Well, anyway, we do
- 32:52have a comment. This one comes off of podcast ally. I love to
- 32:55listen to the great detective stories. They're very in or my faves are Pat
- 33:00Novac and let George do it. Did anyone ever consider doing a TV series
- 33:06for Novak? My answer is sort of. There were actually a series of
- 33:13three movies that were that actually could have been and we're basically said that could
- 33:21be packaged as movies or they could be practiced as a TV episode pilot,
- 33:27and it starred Hugh Beaumont better known as Ward Cleaver as Dennis O'Brien, and
- 33:34these episodes are often identified as bean Pat Novak for higher stories, but they're
- 33:45not. The writer on those particular stories was Herbert Margolis. Margolis was a
- 33:53writer for Johnny Madero, which how if you've been with us a long time,
- 33:59Johnny Madero was a show was done by mutual. Jack Webbs started it,
- 34:04and what they did is they basically ripped off Jack Webb's earlier show,
- 34:10Pat Novac for Higher ABC complained they made a few changes, but if you
- 34:15listen to it, it's pretty close in tone. But the big difference,
- 34:20of course was Herb Margolis did the writing on Johnny Madero, but Pat Novak
- 34:27was really the brain child of of Richard Breen, who had no involvement with
- 34:36in terms of officially with the Johnny Madero series. And so if you read
- 34:40the synopsises like Pure twenty three, they did a series of three of these
- 34:47that were adapted adapted to the radio show, and you see that these are
- 34:55actually the these are acts the synopsis of Johnny Madero episodes, not Pat Novac
- 35:05episodes. So the answer is it was tried. In terms of the Johnny
- 35:12Madero copy. The film Producers is very low budget. So you know,
- 35:20I've not watched them, and they tend to be in kind of some odd
- 35:22and hard to get sense, and from the reviews, I'm not certain they
- 35:27would be worth the money and effort to get so. I hope that answered
- 35:30your question, and I'm glad you're listening out there. I should mention those
- 35:35movies really quick. The titles are Danger's Own Roaring City and Pure twenty three.
- 35:39All right, well, we'll see you on Thursday with Sherlock Holmes and
- 35:44join us back here on Wednesday for another episode of La George Do It.
