- 0:00SPEAKER_00: This is The Spiritual Realist, and I'm Scarlett Drown.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: This is a space for honest conversation about spirituality, individuality, and growth.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Welcome to opening your mind without pressure, performance, or pretending.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: From views to heavenly minded, but earthly good.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: From church fans to creed.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: Cross hanging over the doorway.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: But the church still knew the truth.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Let's begin.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Scarlet draw speak.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Let the spirit speak.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna bring our bowl, getting rid of any negative energy or any distraction while we spend this time together.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: We're using tobacco.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: And here in my handy dandy box is one that I have used on my personal ultras already.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: And it is a good old cigar from Brazil.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: I believe this one is it is.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: This one is from Brazil.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Now, when I did go to Cuba, I did bring a lot of Cubans back, but you know, that's my business.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: So hey.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: But anyway, as you can see, it is already burnt.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: I use mine on a charcoal disc because usually I am burning it for an amount of time while I'm doing different things.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: So tobacco is good for offering respect for ancestors and spirits.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: It's also good for holding space for prayers and intentions.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: It's also good for supporting sacred exchange, supporting focus during rituals and or prayers and other intentions.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Last but not least, it creates a bridge between spirit and physical.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Tobacco is something that you use on your altars, something that you use in spirituality very frequently.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: You can take the tobacco, pull on it, blow on your altars or your deities or your artifacts.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: You can burn it on the charcoal and put it around, um said artifacts or altars.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: You can also use it as a cleansing over your body to invite spirit while you're doing readings or anything like that.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Whatever you decide to do, tobacco is a good tool that can be used.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: And we're getting ready to talk about deities.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Now, listen, I am no expert in this topic.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: I know of some, I know of mine, but there are 401 deities that are out here in the world, in the spirit hemisphere, in the earth hemisphere, in wherever you want to call this thing called life that we're doing, right?
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: So there are too many to learn.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Like, there's no way I'm gonna remember 401 of them.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: And then we know like the top seven.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Those are like the ones that everyone knows, like Oshun and Oya and uh Yemaye and Shango and Obatala, but there are others.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: So for instance, the one that I have is Aga Yu, and he is very not popular amongst the top seven, but he is, you know, pretty known if you are a study of Ifa and Orisha's and deities.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: You do know of him or you have heard of him.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Some people call him Shango's brother, some people call him Shango's dad.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: You know, that's depending on the house that you're in, when you're learning about these said deities.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: But I really wanted to talk about some that we don't know and talk about how they are hidden throughout different religions, especially in the Catholic Church.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: A lot of these deities have saints attached to them because when we were bought here, and I mean bought without the R, because, you know, we were captured and sold.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: So whatever, we had to learn different systems to keep our heritage and our way of living alive.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: And so there were saints that we attached to them by their characteristics.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: And so, for instance, I've said this several times and I'll say it again.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I wear a Saint Christopher's necklace because Saint Christopher is a deity that is associated with Agayu.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: For instance, Eshu, which is the deity of road openings and who takes our offerings up to God so that he can hear our requests, etc., etc.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: That is by Saint Anthony.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: He's one of the saints that's associated with Eshu.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: If you're talking about Okoshi, you're talking about Saint Peter, that is a saint that is associated with him.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: For instance, Oya, who is a warrior who fights for me.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: I've given bow to Oya.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: She is one of my closest deities, and she is associated with Saint Teresa, who is a child of Jesus.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Now I'm gonna let y'all sit on that one.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: We ain't even gonna discuss it today because we're talking about deities, but I just want y'all to know that's what she's associated with.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: You have different ones, like Shango, he is associated with a female, Saint Barbara, even though he's a male Orisha, he's associated with a female saint because of what she represents.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: So, in totality, what I'm trying to get you guys to understand is we had to preserve our roots and our deities and our gods on how we originally practiced religion through different saints because we will prosecute it if we were not.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: For instance, the creator, Ola Dumore, who we know as God, because he is the supreme creator, right?
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: That is a deity.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: And so there are different things about deities, different characteristics of deities that you can go and find this information as much as you want.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: You can go online and look.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: I don't suggest you go like on Google AI.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: That's like not a good place to go and look.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Scribe is a good place to start.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: It has a lot of notoriety for people who have actually done major research and gotten doctoral shifts and things like that.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: You can go online and look up these deities to know that they are more than just your typical seven that we know.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: We all know the basics, right?
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: We are everybody wants to be Oshun because of this.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: But they don't understand that Oshun has characteristics that's not so nice and not so pretty.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: And we don't want to talk about that.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Everybody just wanna see her as this beautiful deity who exudes sensuality and love, but you know, she's a beast, right?
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: She comes with a two-edged sword, right?
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: And I'm being facetious when I say that, I mean in personality traits.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: She comes that way, yet her thing is honey, right?
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: So you get what I'm saying?
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: All that attract, she ain't good for you.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: That's yours.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: You can sit with that.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: But what I'm trying to get you guys to understand is everybody wants to take on characteristics of different Harisha's because of their characteristics, but that's not necessarily who you are meant to be.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: That's not necessarily your head on who chose you and who you chose before you even came in this life.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: For instance, most people thought I was Oshun.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Some people who knew me thought I was Oya, and I came out of Agayu, right?
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Which is crazy because when I started researching Agaiu and looking up this deity that lives in the belly of the volcano, meaning that he fi.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: And I don't mean like fire, fine.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: I mean fire will burn the fuck out you, fi.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: I was like, oh, that's why she likes this.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: She being in me.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: That's why she snapped.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: That's why when she burned, it's like lava, right?
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: Lava is not necessarily a bad thing, right?
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Lava, when it comes and it hits, it's bad in the beginning because it's burning everything.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: But guess what?
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: In order for new to grow, what farmers do?
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: They burn.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: They burn the whole thing just so they can retoil and replenish that crop for the next season.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Some fire.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: I'll just say.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: That's just all I'm saying.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: So this week, if you guys are inclined to, don't just look up your characteristics and say, oh, that's the orisha I like.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: Don't just look up the positive parts of them.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: There are dualities to every orisha.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Every orisha is cutthroat.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: That just is what it is because we are good and bad.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: We are light and dark.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: We are happy and sad.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: We're good and evil.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: We are human.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: And most orishas have come and lived in human form or lived on this earth at some point in time.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, make sure that when you are studying and you want to become or you're looking at orishas or into orishas, that you go to a barber, a credible barber.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: I love my barber.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: I am grateful for the house that I am in.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: I love my mother.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: I love my godfather.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: I love my godmother.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: I'm grateful for their patience.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: I'm grateful for their willingness to teach.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: I'm grateful for the things that they do to allow me to be me in this house.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, find you a credible house.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: A credible house.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: Listen, it's a lot of people out there in this internet world who are greedy and just want to take from you because it is not a cheap religion to be in.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Just like when you want people to pay you for your time, Bobbles should be paid for theirs.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: And these rituals cost money.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: So don't just be out there and letting somebody do something for you on the okido, and you have no idea what you're supposed to be receiving and supposed to be getting.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: Remember, my biggest thing I try to tell y'all is get understanding, get wisdom, get knowledge.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Make sure you do your research before you let them lay your hands on you, before you let them talk to you or walk you through an initiation, and then you don't even, you aren't even initiated fully.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: Make sure you know what you're doing.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: Make sure you're doing the research correctly.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: And on that note, I'm Skylar Drow, heavenly minded, but always earthly good, and nothing less but know what you're getting into before you get into it.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: I say, I say, I say.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: From church fans decree.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: If something about this episode stays with you, then you're exactly who this space is for.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: Share with a friend you think should be here too.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: You can watch on YouTube, listen on all the podcast platforms, and continue the conversation at The Spiritual Realist.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: I'm Scarlett Drought, heavenly minded but earthly good.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Until next time.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: The Spiritual Realist is produced by Organized Movies.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: I let the spirit guide me to the host of the earth's college road.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: I remember every story that they spoke in the words I'm empowered by the spirit strength by my decent foot.
