- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome into Jack's Am. It's June tenth, and Mandatory Mini
- 0:21Speaker 1: Camp is kicking off right now at the Miller Electric
- 0:24Speaker 1: Center three days this week that we will see the
- 0:26Speaker 1: guys out there getting ready for this offseason program or
- 0:30Speaker 1: getting into this offseason program. We saw some pretty great
- 0:32Speaker 1: turnout during OTAs, but of course just a little bit different.
- 0:35Speaker 1: This is the mandatory portion. Welcome in. I'm Kinnannie Stevens,
- 0:38Speaker 1: Brian Sexson, John Ojer are with me today. Is we're
- 0:41Speaker 1: going to talk things out. Big thing number one is
- 0:42Speaker 1: it's mandatory Mini camp now, not a ton different, Brian
- 0:46Speaker 1: from OTAs, and we have seen pretty good turnout, but
- 0:49Speaker 1: you do have to be here and after this offseason,
- 0:52Speaker 1: you definitely want to be a part of this, and
- 0:54Speaker 1: that's why we saw such good turnout earlier as well.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that's really the only difference is the word mandatory
- 0:58Speaker 2: and that the veterans are record wired to be here.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I think in recent years we've seen coaching stabs cancel
- 1:04Speaker 2: these or turn them off on the third day.
- 1:07Speaker 3: I'll be interested to see Liam's approach.
- 1:09Speaker 2: My guess is is that they'll practice all three days
- 1:12Speaker 2: because in this transition there has been a lot to
- 1:15Speaker 2: get done, John, and a lot that the coaches want
- 1:17Speaker 2: to see before they switch it off until training camp
- 1:19Speaker 2: at the what the third week of July.
- 1:21Speaker 4: Yeah, it's mandatory, so let the record show we're here,
- 1:24Speaker 4: so we're covered, and that's really the only difference. It's
- 1:27Speaker 4: still unpadded work eleven on eleven. It's more competitive than
- 1:31Speaker 4: it was before OTAs began. Other than that's what it is.
- 1:35Speaker 4: I don't expect them to back off this week because
- 1:39Speaker 4: I feel like they've had a plan that it's involved
- 1:41Speaker 4: thirteen on field practices to get ready. I think Thursdays
- 1:45Speaker 4: may be a smid shorter. Beyond that, it's OTA's which
- 1:49Speaker 4: is learning, not much evaluating, and trying to get ready
- 1:53Speaker 4: for training camp.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Our second big thing today is going to be run away.
- 1:57Speaker 1: We look at different position groups this time of year
- 1:59Speaker 1: and some new face. We've seen a lot of new
- 2:01Speaker 1: faces added to this roster. Their running back room is
- 2:04Speaker 1: one that's going to look a lot different compared to
- 2:06Speaker 1: last year. John. We've seen a lot of additions and
- 2:08Speaker 1: I feel like this could be one of the most
- 2:09Speaker 1: competitive groups in terms of what we see in training
- 2:12Speaker 1: camp going into the season.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Yeah, i'd put it with you know, offensive line in
- 2:17Speaker 4: terms of the competitive level, Look, this team wants to run.
- 2:22Speaker 4: It feels like there is such an emphasis on it.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Usually teams that really really emphasize it run better than
- 2:30Speaker 4: the teams that don't. There's a will thing in the NFL.
- 2:34Speaker 4: There's a stick to it. I think they're going to
- 2:36Speaker 4: stick to it. In talking to offensive line coach sewn
- 2:39Speaker 4: Sean Serraht last week, he doesn't doubt that it's going
- 2:42Speaker 4: to be a tough offensive line emphasis on run blocking.
- 2:46Speaker 4: So once we get there, then we will see the
- 2:50Speaker 4: running backs come into play. And I do think it's
- 2:52Speaker 4: competitive and I think base Shelle Tooton has a chance
- 2:55Speaker 4: to start.
- 2:56Speaker 2: You know, they have to get better at it, and
- 2:58Speaker 2: if they do, I think it tends to an opportunity
- 3:01Speaker 2: to get right back into the thick of the AFC
- 3:02Speaker 2: South with Houston. They're an inability guy to convert on
- 3:06Speaker 2: third and short really has cost this offense. I'm really
- 3:08Speaker 2: interested in this room, and I know what you've said
- 3:10Speaker 2: about Tutin, and I know what happened last year in Tampa.
- 3:13Speaker 2: The guy that I'm interested in the most is Travis
- 3:15Speaker 2: Etn because of what he said and I know this
- 3:18Speaker 2: is the time of year where you can say almost
- 3:20Speaker 2: anything and it all sounds so trite and wrote in
- 3:23Speaker 2: so many cases, but you have such competition in that
- 3:26Speaker 2: room now he has to be motivated by his circumstances
- 3:29Speaker 2: final a year of his deal. He's clearly as a
- 3:32Speaker 2: former first round pick, the most talented guy in the
- 3:34Speaker 2: room and the guy who has provided improved that he
- 3:37Speaker 2: can provide touchdowns and yards and big plays. Well, we've
- 3:41Speaker 2: watched big Speed be unable to pull away from him
- 3:44Speaker 2: in recent years, and now we know what Tuton's impact
- 3:47Speaker 2: could be. John mentioned he might start this year. I
- 3:50Speaker 2: think Travis etn is X factor. Call it what you want,
- 3:54Speaker 2: but a guy who could give this team a lot
- 3:56Speaker 2: this year if things line up for him, and.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Will certainly be motivated in that contract here and maybe
- 4:01Speaker 1: a little more involvement in the passing game coming up
- 4:04Speaker 1: as well. Our final big thing camp competition. We talked
- 4:06Speaker 1: about the running back group. That's obviously going to be competitive,
- 4:09Speaker 1: But Brian, when you're looking elsewhere on the roster, what's
- 4:11Speaker 1: another position group where you feel like there's going to
- 4:13Speaker 1: be some great competition come camp?
- 4:14Speaker 2: Well, I think the middle of that defensive line to
- 4:17Speaker 2: listen to the defensive line staff last week talk about
- 4:20Speaker 2: Eric Armstead moving back inside and what they've seen and
- 4:23Speaker 2: heard from him since.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Those guys aren't in full pads.
- 4:25Speaker 2: But what I got there last week asking Josh heinz
- 4:29Speaker 2: Allen about Mason Smith is that he's worked hard, he's
- 4:33Speaker 2: been coachable, teachable.
- 4:36Speaker 5: And that his motivation level is very high.
- 4:37Speaker 2: He understands what's at stake for him in his career
- 4:41Speaker 2: in year two. And then you mix into Von Hamilton
- 4:44Speaker 2: and Jordan Jefferson, there's a lot to like about the
- 4:47Speaker 2: inside of this defensive line.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Group if they all come to play.
- 4:50Speaker 5: John Yeah, where we see competition? Where to start? I
- 4:54Speaker 5: think it's gonna be a lot.
- 4:55Speaker 4: I think I left tackle walk a little Fred Johnson
- 4:57Speaker 4: all over the offensive line, running back, I think safety
- 5:01Speaker 4: with Andrew Wingard and Caleb Ransaw the outside corner on
- 5:06Speaker 4: the other side. I'm not sure it's competition as much
- 5:09Speaker 4: as trying to figure out when and where Travis Hunter
- 5:12Speaker 4: will line up, how Jordan Lewis will compliment that linebackers
- 5:16Speaker 4: all over the place.
- 5:17Speaker 5: This is uh, you know.
- 5:19Speaker 4: I think the guys that people have penciled in the
- 5:22Speaker 4: veteran guys most of them probably start, but it's gonna
- 5:27Speaker 4: be interesting. And I don't think all of the guys
- 5:29Speaker 4: that people are penciling and will start, So it's gonna
- 5:31Speaker 4: be a good camp.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I think it's gonna evolve as it goes along, which
- 5:33Speaker 1: will be exciting for us to see. So stay with
- 5:35Speaker 1: us here on jag Zam. We'll have more live views
- 5:37Speaker 1: of mandatory mini camps coming up after the break anyday's
- 5:55Speaker 1: episode of jag Zam. Rocky by Fresher from Florida. It
- 5:58Speaker 1: is always in season.
- 6:02Speaker 6: A big part of that is Travis. He puts into work.
- 6:05Speaker 6: Like I said, he loves football. And when you got
- 6:09Speaker 6: guys like that that truly love what they do, you know,
- 6:12Speaker 6: we make we make the time to get everything that
- 6:15Speaker 6: we need accomplished done each and every day, and I
- 6:18Speaker 6: think I think that's something that you'll just continue to
- 6:20Speaker 6: get better at. We'll continue to get better at as
- 6:22Speaker 6: far as making sure that we make the most of
- 6:25Speaker 6: every opportunity that we get. So whatever meeting it might be,
- 6:28Speaker 6: whatever time we get out on the field, also walkthrough
- 6:31Speaker 6: we just make sure we maximize the moment.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Edgar Vennant wingh in on Travis Hunter, who works with
- 6:38Speaker 1: the wide receivers a lot more than he's been working
- 6:40Speaker 1: with the dfense so far from what we've seen, but
- 6:43Speaker 1: always good things. Whenever he's on either side.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Of the football. He's fun to watch. It's hard not to
- 6:47Speaker 3: have your eyes on him.
- 6:48Speaker 2: And what's interesting is how many eyes are on him
- 6:51Speaker 2: have not been on Brian Thomas Junior. You know, talking
- 6:53Speaker 2: to people, they're like, oh, I forgot about Brian Thomas Junior.
- 6:56Speaker 3: You don't forget about him.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Well, I'm sure that's what coach is hoping people will
- 6:59Speaker 1: do forget about BTJ, but I don't know if they will.
- 7:01Speaker 5: Wouldn't that be fantastic next if they just single high? Yeah?
- 7:05Speaker 5: Right out?
- 7:07Speaker 2: Well, if it is remarkable after the rookie season that
- 7:10Speaker 2: Brian Thomas Junior had that your first round draft pick
- 7:14Speaker 2: could overwhelm, that could be a bigger story than that
- 7:17Speaker 2: in the spring.
- 7:18Speaker 3: If you had said to me last.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Fall that that was possible or last spring, I wouldn't
- 7:23Speaker 2: thought it would be.
- 7:24Speaker 4: But doesn't it feel Brian, And like we've covered this
- 7:26Speaker 4: a while, certain guys are quiet in the off season.
- 7:32Speaker 4: I'm to the point where I would be stunned if
- 7:35Speaker 4: he's not a fourteen hundred yard guy next year.
- 7:37Speaker 5: I think he's going to have an explosion.
- 7:38Speaker 4: And you're talking about Travis Hunter and BTJ just feels
- 7:43Speaker 4: like more of a wh I say, guaranteed, But if
- 7:48Speaker 4: he's not an all pro level guy and the best
- 7:51Speaker 4: player on the offense outside Trevor Lawrence next year, I'd
- 7:54Speaker 4: be surprised. And that's no knock on Travis Hunter. I
- 7:57Speaker 4: just think Travis is going to be the explosive, make
- 8:00Speaker 4: a play, but consistency what makes this offense run. I
- 8:03Speaker 4: think it's gonna be number seven.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I was talking to a friend of mine who is
- 8:06Speaker 2: a scout in the NFC, and he told me he
- 8:08Speaker 2: thought that Brian Thomas Junior could be Jamar Chase, he
- 8:12Speaker 2: could be Justin Jefferson, he could be that, Oh my god,
- 8:16Speaker 2: how do we stop this guy? How do we match
- 8:18Speaker 2: up with this guy? Fourteen fifteen hundred yard guy? Whatever
- 8:22Speaker 2: he wants and he doesn't say very much.
- 8:25Speaker 4: I get the idea that BTJ might be just fine
- 8:28Speaker 4: with not having the midweek spotlight on him and not
- 8:31Speaker 4: doing the pressers and then being on NFL primetime at
- 8:39Speaker 4: night catching balls and being able to talk on the field,
- 8:41Speaker 4: So he may flourish in this because it don't me wrong.
- 8:46Speaker 4: I think he likes, like anybody in the NFL, the
- 8:50Speaker 4: recognition of being great. But I don't necessarily think he
- 8:53Speaker 4: needs the midweek stuff.
- 8:55Speaker 1: And I think what's cool and what I've seen in
- 8:57Speaker 1: his evolution is it now looks really easy to him.
- 9:00Speaker 1: He always looked athletic, he always looked like he was
- 9:02Speaker 1: learning and getting better as things went along. But now
- 9:04Speaker 1: it looks like it's old routine already, which is interesting
- 9:07Speaker 1: to see in a second year player because you don't
- 9:09Speaker 1: always see it picked up that quickly. And it's now
- 9:12Speaker 1: to the point where I expect him to do crazy things.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I don't. I'm not as awed by it, because that
- 9:17Speaker 1: is who he is.
- 9:18Speaker 3: I said to somebody the other day.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Last year he was adjusting to the National Football League
- 9:22Speaker 2: to playing on Sundays.
- 9:23Speaker 3: This year, the National Football League will adjust him.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's gonna be. I think you're gonna
- 9:27Speaker 4: see accelerated. And he was good last year, don't get
- 9:30Speaker 4: me wrong, but I think you're gonna see as good
- 9:33Speaker 4: as he was last year. Most rookies outside of the
- 9:38Speaker 4: running back position aren't close to having the field vision
- 9:45Speaker 4: or the awareness in the moment that they will in
- 9:48Speaker 4: the future. I'm not saying Brian Thomas wasn't good in
- 9:50Speaker 4: those areas last year, but it usually accelerates.
- 9:53Speaker 5: You learn what you didn't know as a rookie.
- 9:56Speaker 4: So it's exciting stuff. And he is when you look
- 10:01Speaker 4: at national rankings and all that stuff, which I love
- 10:04Speaker 4: that kind of steph Brian.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I know you top three, top five.
- 10:07Speaker 4: You see him mentioned, but there's often not. He's still
- 10:12Speaker 4: sort of a well kept secret nationally in a way,
- 10:16Speaker 4: so I think the secret will be out since So
- 10:19Speaker 4: we got.
- 10:20Speaker 1: To talk to some of the position coaches last week,
- 10:21Speaker 1: which is exciting for us because it's new staff, so
- 10:24Speaker 1: kind of getting to know them a little bit. And
- 10:26Speaker 1: John loves to talk to an O line coach, so
- 10:27Speaker 1: Sean Sarah has.
- 10:29Speaker 5: It was fun.
- 10:30Speaker 1: They always have a lot to say, and he talked
- 10:31Speaker 1: a little bit about the competition on the line and
- 10:33Speaker 1: what he's expecting out of walker little.
- 10:36Speaker 5: Over position.
- 10:37Speaker 7: He ends up at the slidest BIS and go in
- 10:39Speaker 7: there and be, you know, a seventeen Games starter for
- 10:41Speaker 7: multiple years, and you know, and that's what we see
- 10:44Speaker 7: in him and Anton. They're both they're both capable of
- 10:46Speaker 7: going to either spot, and they're both capable of starting
- 10:49Speaker 7: seventeen games for us going into the playoffs, playing in
- 10:51Speaker 7: these big games, and it's very helpful. And we brought
- 10:54Speaker 7: guys in that have been in these situations, and a
- 10:56Speaker 7: guy like Patrick McCarry who comes in, you know, he's
- 10:59Speaker 7: been kind of like a blue guy around is with
- 11:02Speaker 7: the Ravens, who's played all these positions and he's played
- 11:04Speaker 7: in all these big games and he's just you know,
- 11:06Speaker 7: it doesn't matter if a guy goes down, you're gonna
- 11:08Speaker 7: move him over and he's not gonna bad or not.
- 11:10Speaker 7: I can go play, which is interesting.
- 11:13Speaker 3: You know, let's be good for those guys.
- 11:15Speaker 1: John, I feel like this regime is definitely doing the
- 11:18Speaker 1: offensive line differently because they're bringing in young players, yes,
- 11:21Speaker 1: but also a lot of veterans that have played multiple positions,
- 11:25Speaker 1: so that the depth will be players that can plug
- 11:28Speaker 1: and play in different spots.
- 11:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:30Speaker 4: He was asked last week, what like the what the
- 11:32Speaker 4: defining trade of the offensive line will be.
- 11:35Speaker 5: I think it's gonna be many.
- 11:36Speaker 4: The one he chose to speak about was versatility because
- 11:39Speaker 4: there are so many guys who can play different spots
- 11:41Speaker 4: as an offensive line coach.
- 11:42Speaker 5: They love that.
- 11:44Speaker 4: He mentioned usually o line coaches are looking for the
- 11:46Speaker 4: fourth guy who can snap. You know, offensive line coaches
- 11:50Speaker 4: are always trying to figure out if they have enough
- 11:53Speaker 4: centers because at some point, if guys get hurt, you
- 11:56Speaker 4: can't start the play without a center.
- 11:58Speaker 5: But he said they have plenty of them. He was
- 12:01Speaker 5: also interesting in.
- 12:04Speaker 4: He has zero doubt that, even though they haven't seen
- 12:06Speaker 4: it in OTA's yet, this is going to be a
- 12:08Speaker 4: tough group.
- 12:09Speaker 5: They can run block.
- 12:11Speaker 4: The emphasis on that area is something every team says
- 12:15Speaker 4: they emphasize it. The previous regime really had the attitude
- 12:20Speaker 4: Brian of they were going to run when the run
- 12:23Speaker 4: was there, but they weren't going to overpower the opponent.
- 12:27Speaker 4: I think these guys may be a team that runs
- 12:30Speaker 4: even when you know it's coming. There's a difference in
- 12:33Speaker 4: philosophy there, and I think you're going to see an
- 12:35Speaker 4: improve in the running game because of it.
- 12:36Speaker 2: I went back and watched a lot of the year
- 12:38Speaker 2: the Buccaneers games this offseason, and I love the way
- 12:41Speaker 2: they run. If that's the approach, man, it's going to
- 12:43Speaker 2: be fun to watch this group. And I think because
- 12:45Speaker 2: we've talked about it at nauseam that they will be
- 12:47Speaker 2: much more successful on third down and short offensive line coaches,
- 12:52Speaker 2: and you remember Mike Maser. I mean, these guys, they're
- 12:54Speaker 2: just a different breed. They're just the way that they
- 12:57Speaker 2: talk and the intensity with which they speak.
- 13:00Speaker 5: I just I love listening to them.
- 13:02Speaker 2: And I think the thing that stands out the most
- 13:03Speaker 2: about this group was what they said in the early days,
- 13:06Speaker 2: and that is what you think will happen or should happen.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Probably won't.
- 13:11Speaker 4: If I was commissioner for a day, which everybody wants,
- 13:15Speaker 4: I would have offensive line coaches in addition to the coordinators.
- 13:19Speaker 5: We talk to the.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Media every week, because they really are the beyond those two.
- 13:24Speaker 4: If you think about it, they're usually the storyline.
- 13:27Speaker 5: Now.
- 13:28Speaker 4: I don't think most offensive line coaches would want to
- 13:31Speaker 4: do that.
- 13:31Speaker 5: They like being in the cave.
- 13:34Speaker 4: But I think when you can talk to them and
- 13:37Speaker 4: get a feel for their position group, it's often as
- 13:40Speaker 4: valuable as the coordinators.
- 13:42Speaker 5: So it's project Goodell, make it.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Happen, Make it happen, Ozer says, So we got to
- 13:47Speaker 1: talk to quarterbacks coach Spencer Whipple as well. A lot
- 13:50Speaker 1: of talk about Trevor learning this new system, but a
- 13:53Speaker 1: lot of focus has actually been on Trevor's footwork and
- 13:56Speaker 1: what he's seen from him so far.
- 13:57Speaker 8: It takes a you know, a downloading process that takes
- 14:00Speaker 8: say playing on the field, those reps that come up
- 14:02Speaker 8: in terms of practice, and so he's done a great
- 14:05Speaker 8: job of the self evaluation piece, saying right away, hey,
- 14:07Speaker 8: I did feel.
- 14:08Speaker 5: A little bit quick here.
- 14:09Speaker 7: Maybe I could, you.
- 14:11Speaker 8: Know, sit on this a little bit more and let
- 14:13Speaker 8: bet work so whatever it may be. And I think
- 14:15Speaker 8: that just goes back to his approach in terms of
- 14:19Speaker 8: growing and getting better each day. That's his main focus
- 14:22Speaker 8: and that's what he's done and that's why it's been such.
- 14:24Speaker 1: A a pleasure to work with him. Brian Trevor himself
- 14:28Speaker 1: is that he wanted to work on his footwork. All
- 14:30Speaker 1: the reports back at this point are that it's been
- 14:32Speaker 1: going quite well and just the improvement as things have
- 14:34Speaker 1: gone along.
- 14:35Speaker 2: I guess we'll find out. I mean, I don't think
- 14:36Speaker 2: we're going to find anything this week about it. You know,
- 14:38Speaker 2: get to whatever portion of the preseason he plays, and
- 14:42Speaker 2: to me, I won't be watching his feet. I don't
- 14:44Speaker 2: know what I'm looking at specifically, but I'll be watching
- 14:47Speaker 2: his comfort level when he hits that back foot, and
- 14:50Speaker 2: according to coach Cohen and the entire offensive staff that
- 14:54Speaker 2: deals with the passing game, his decision making and his
- 14:57Speaker 2: ability to calmly make a play all based on his footwork.
- 15:01Speaker 3: I guess that's the only way we can judge it.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I've got a lot of questions people saying, well,
- 15:05Speaker 4: exactly what are they doing with his footwork? I don't
- 15:07Speaker 4: think we'll ever know, because they're not going to sit
- 15:09Speaker 4: there and discuss, well, A, we want it this inch.
- 15:14Speaker 5: But I think the thing.
- 15:15Speaker 4: To take away that they're doing is it's as much
- 15:21Speaker 4: timing as it is footwork. From my understanding, meaning Liam
- 15:26Speaker 4: Cohene has talked about it often and Spencer Wioplo did too.
- 15:30Speaker 4: They just want the footwork to dictate the decision making
- 15:34Speaker 4: and make it feel as reflexive perhaps of this is
- 15:40Speaker 4: where the decision is going to be. They want to
- 15:43Speaker 4: take as much thinking out of it as possible, and
- 15:46Speaker 4: Liam keeps on talking.
- 15:47Speaker 5: About it's a gray game.
- 15:50Speaker 4: They want as many things to be black and white,
- 15:53Speaker 4: so on the decisions that he has to make, there's
- 15:55Speaker 4: a clearer head making it. So I probably didn't explain
- 15:59Speaker 4: it well enough right there, for Well, it's not an
- 16:00Speaker 4: easy thing to explain, but that's the spirit of it,
- 16:03Speaker 4: is trying to have the footwork dictate the decisions so
- 16:06Speaker 4: that anything you can do to make it a little
- 16:10Speaker 4: easier in the pocket is going to help to me
- 16:13Speaker 4: accuracy everything there, because you're just better when you're more comfortable.
- 16:17Speaker 5: It's about making him comfortable.
- 16:19Speaker 2: And and the bedrock of comfort is knowing where you're
- 16:23Speaker 2: supposed to be and where when you're supposed to be there,
- 16:25Speaker 2: and the footwork is all part of that.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Well, check in quickly. I do want to talk about
- 16:30Speaker 1: the defense.
- 16:30Speaker 5: Obviously.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Coach Campanelli has been one of the newer faces, very prominent.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I just feel like his personality is very strong, which
- 16:37Speaker 1: is great for the players, and they've really taken to him.
- 16:40Speaker 1: I know Josh Heinz Allen has talked about it, but
- 16:43Speaker 1: Bill Sheridan, one of the defensive assistants, talked a little
- 16:45Speaker 1: bit about his work with camp at BC and how
- 16:47Speaker 1: he's grown in those years since he was at Boston College.
- 16:51Speaker 9: You know, even if he's at BC, you know, super
- 16:53Speaker 9: like passionate and uh and to bury the football coach
- 16:57Speaker 9: all but when I I came.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Back here, you know been here. I don't know, maybe
- 17:02Speaker 5: eight weeks.
- 17:04Speaker 9: And you know, the nice thing is he has been around.
- 17:09Speaker 9: I was standing the defensive coaches in the National Football League,
- 17:12Speaker 9: Brian Flores, mcdangio, Jeff Halflee, and so in the time
- 17:18Speaker 9: I've been here, even like if I say, like the
- 17:21Speaker 9: first show three weeks here, I was like, oh, this
- 17:25Speaker 9: guy has been paying attention and his football and.
- 17:29Speaker 5: He was skywalketted John.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I remember Josh heinz Allen speaking last week. He said,
- 17:35Speaker 1: you know how much he's enjoying working with this new staff,
- 17:38Speaker 1: and these are coaches you want to lay your body
- 17:41Speaker 1: on the line for. It, believes the direct quote he used.
- 17:43Speaker 1: But that's high praise. That's not something they just say.
- 17:47Speaker 4: Well, a couple of things about camp I don't pretend
- 17:50Speaker 4: to know him very well. I talked to him a
- 17:52Speaker 4: couple of times face to face, a couple times off
- 17:54Speaker 4: the record when he first got here. But Sheridan was
- 17:58Speaker 4: interesting talking about him because you got the impression that
- 18:01Speaker 4: Sheridan knew very quickly. Some people were put on this
- 18:05Speaker 4: earth to coach. Yeah, a lot of people coach, not
- 18:07Speaker 4: people are successful at it. But this guy was meant
- 18:10Speaker 4: to do it. And there's no doubt that Sheridan thinks
- 18:14Speaker 4: the Camp you know, is going to be an NFL
- 18:15Speaker 4: head coach and knew is going to be a great coordinator.
- 18:18Speaker 5: The most interesting thing about Camp.
- 18:21Speaker 4: I interviewed him one of the first days he got here,
- 18:23Speaker 4: turned the recorder off and I asked him about his
- 18:26Speaker 4: scheme and this is off the record, but I don't
- 18:28Speaker 4: think he'll mind me sharing this.
- 18:32Speaker 5: And he kind of.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Scoffed, and you know, we talked about scheme of bit
- 18:37Speaker 4: and he goes, you know, Johnny, Scheme's fine. It's how
- 18:42Speaker 4: much these guys know you believe in him. And that
- 18:46Speaker 4: resonated so much in every player you talk to about him.
- 18:50Speaker 4: That's the first thing they say, he's meant to do
- 18:54Speaker 4: this after last year. These players clearly believe that this
- 18:59Speaker 4: guy is in their corner, this guy cares about him,
- 19:05Speaker 4: and I'd be really surprised if there's not a pretty
- 19:08Speaker 4: significant I don't know about stats, but you're gonna see
- 19:11Speaker 4: a difference in the defense.
- 19:13Speaker 3: O hope.
- 19:14Speaker 2: So because last year it was so bad, I can't
- 19:17Speaker 2: add much on Camp other than I love what Josh
- 19:20Speaker 2: heines Allen said last week when he smiled.
- 19:23Speaker 3: And said he's a lot great. I mean, that's exactly
- 19:26Speaker 3: what I want to hear.
- 19:27Speaker 2: I can't add something about Bill Sheridan, a former Jaguars
- 19:30Speaker 2: assistant coach once coached with Bill Sheridan at Michigan, and look,
- 19:34Speaker 2: you know these older veteran guys that come in, and
- 19:37Speaker 2: there have been a number of them through the years,
- 19:38Speaker 2: Nobody pays a whole lot of attention to them. But
- 19:41Speaker 2: this coach called me when Sheridan was hired and said
- 19:43Speaker 2: that guy will make a big difference with a first
- 19:46Speaker 2: time defensive coordinator. So to see Bill Sheridan and delicted
- 19:50Speaker 2: to him last week and to hear him talk about
- 19:53Speaker 2: Campanelli and the way that he coaches, that's good credibility.
- 19:57Speaker 5: I looked here, sorry, Yan.
- 20:00Speaker 4: Interesting thing that when I was sitting with Sheridan, even
- 20:04Speaker 4: beyond Campanelli as a play caller, he.
- 20:09Speaker 5: Kind of gushed, is the right word.
- 20:11Speaker 4: We couldn't say enough about how the players are responding
- 20:15Speaker 4: to camp.
- 20:17Speaker 5: In the NFL. That's everything.
- 20:19Speaker 4: If these guys don't believe in you, you got no chance.
- 20:22Speaker 4: And these guys believe in this coordinator can't.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Fake that, that's for sure. Stay with here on Jagsam
- 20:26Speaker 1: We're gonna check in around the AFC South, see what's
- 20:28Speaker 1: going on with the Texans, move the Frey, move the freight.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Magellan Transport voted the coolest office space in Jacksonville and
- 20:37Speaker 1: you can visit it at Magellan Logistics dot com. Welcome
- 20:43Speaker 1: back into jags am Mandatory mini camp underway. First of
- 20:46Speaker 1: three days here. Not a ton different from OTAs, but
- 20:49Speaker 1: you do have to be here. That's mandatory. So we're
- 20:50Speaker 1: gonna check in on some of the other teams around
- 20:53Speaker 1: the AFC South. We've already talked about the Titans and
- 20:55Speaker 1: the Colts, so now it's time checking on the Texans.
- 20:57Speaker 1: They're having mandatory mini camp this week as well, and
- 21:00Speaker 1: so far CJ. Stroud has not been throwing. We'll see
- 21:04Speaker 1: what happens in mini camp. Obviously that's maybe a little
- 21:07Speaker 1: more ononus on him participating, but there'd be a little
- 21:10Speaker 1: dodgy about it. Tamiko Ryan said, it's just, you know,
- 21:12Speaker 1: general soreness and kind of deflected and got a little
- 21:15Speaker 1: fidgety when the media is asking about it. So I'm
- 21:17Speaker 1: curious he gets beat up a lot. He was sacked
- 21:20Speaker 1: a ton last a few ton fifty six is a
- 21:23Speaker 1: ton a literal Ton physically metaphorically, we're making it up. Anyway.
- 21:27Speaker 1: He gets sacked all the time. I'm not surprised he
- 21:29Speaker 1: was banged up. Probably a lot of stuff goes off
- 21:32Speaker 1: in the off season. But at this point to not
- 21:34Speaker 1: be throwing is interesting to me because as we saw,
- 21:38Speaker 1: you know, Trevor had an off season surgery early. Obviously,
- 21:41Speaker 1: now he's thrown shoulder, but still and to be at
- 21:43Speaker 1: this point and not be throwing with her team I
- 21:45Speaker 1: did my spidy senses are going off well.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Obviously Kenny Richardson up in Indianapolis who has shoulder issues
- 21:51Speaker 2: after complaining of soreness, and they don't know when he's
- 21:53Speaker 2: going to be ready to play.
- 21:54Speaker 3: But here's the interesting part. They just they overhauled everything
- 21:57Speaker 3: John in Houston.
- 21:58Speaker 2: The offensive line is they traded Laramie Tunsel, they bring
- 22:02Speaker 2: in Cam Robinson. He's not the only offensive lineman. Stefan
- 22:05Speaker 2: Diggs is now in New England. Tak Dell is not
- 22:07Speaker 2: likely to play this year, let alone be able to
- 22:09Speaker 2: practice at any point in the future. And they fired
- 22:11Speaker 2: Bobby Slowick and they brought in Nick Calli to be
- 22:13Speaker 2: the offensive coordinator from Los Angeles.
- 22:15Speaker 3: I mean so much is different.
- 22:18Speaker 2: You'd want to have your quarterback throwing, even on a
- 22:21Speaker 2: pitch count at this point to get the most out
- 22:23Speaker 2: of his reps before camp begins.
- 22:25Speaker 4: Yeah, and I'm a Texans fan. I'm probably not panicking
- 22:28Speaker 4: over all that because a lot of teams change stuff
- 22:31Speaker 4: at the same time. It's for Stroud not to be
- 22:37Speaker 4: throwing in many camp. Maybe there's nothing wrong, but it's
- 22:42Speaker 4: fair for people to wonder why.
- 22:45Speaker 5: Because he was good last year. But I don't think
- 22:50Speaker 5: he made the jump that they expected.
- 22:52Speaker 4: I mean, we all saw as a rookie and you
- 22:54Speaker 4: expected sort of an acceleration.
- 22:56Speaker 5: It didn't really happen, so.
- 23:00Speaker 4: I would think I obviously it's just ODDI if if
- 23:04Speaker 4: Trevor wasn't throwing, it would be the A block B
- 23:08Speaker 4: block problem of this show. So in perspective, that's certainly
- 23:13Speaker 4: something to watch for a starting quarterback, not to throw
- 23:16Speaker 4: a manikin.
- 23:17Speaker 1: And we should mention as well, cause he's got some
- 23:19Speaker 1: new targets he's throwing too. Obviously, Nico Collins probably out
- 23:22Speaker 1: for the year, but Christian Kirk, a familiar face to us,
- 23:24Speaker 1: is now in Houston, and you know he's not throwing
- 23:27Speaker 1: with a starting quarterback. Obviously, Christian Kirk's of that. He'll
- 23:29Speaker 1: be fine, but when you add some new additions to
- 23:31Speaker 1: the offense, it's we know it's big for Trevor Lawrence
- 23:33Speaker 1: to be working with his new receiver, so you'd imagine CJ.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Stroud would want to do the same. But I hope
- 23:38Speaker 1: Christian Kirk is healthy. We'll see what he can bring
- 23:40Speaker 1: to that team down there, but it'll be interesting to
- 23:42Speaker 1: see him in a Texan's uniform.
- 23:44Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think most people will watch this show that.
- 23:49Speaker 4: Many many players come through here where you think, Okay,
- 23:52Speaker 4: they're gone.
- 23:53Speaker 5: It's fine. Christian is a guy everybody like I.
- 23:57Speaker 4: I hope he can have personal success without texting successes.
- 24:01Speaker 4: My guess is if you really pulled Christian aside and
- 24:05Speaker 4: said where would you love to I think he would
- 24:08Speaker 4: have loved to have been here with Trevor, with this team.
- 24:11Speaker 4: I think he liked this franchise a lot. Circumstances don't
- 24:15Speaker 4: always allow you to finish your career where he want to,
- 24:18Speaker 4: but good luck to him.
- 24:19Speaker 2: This great kid cap figure was twenty seven million dollars.
- 24:22Speaker 2: It goes that way. Nico Collins will be CJ. Stroud's
- 24:28Speaker 2: favorite target. Because he's that big play guy. But this
- 24:31Speaker 2: guy here could easily be his favorite receiver, the guy
- 24:34Speaker 2: that he trusts, who will always be where he is
- 24:36Speaker 2: supposed to be, because Christian Kirk always was.
- 24:39Speaker 4: But unfortunately for Christian always yes when he's on the field.
- 24:45Speaker 4: But he has not finished the last two seasons. So
- 24:49Speaker 4: I hope for his sake that dead doesn't become what
- 24:51Speaker 4: defines the end of his career, because that was also
- 24:54Speaker 4: a big reason the cap.
- 24:56Speaker 5: Yes.
- 24:57Speaker 4: Had he been fully healthy, I do wonder they wouldn't
- 25:00Speaker 4: have tried to figure out something. But you don't finish
- 25:02Speaker 4: two seasons in a row deep into your career, it
- 25:05Speaker 4: becomes an issue.
- 25:07Speaker 1: All right, stay with us. We'll tell you what's coming
- 25:08Speaker 1: up the rest of this offseason and when training camp's
- 25:10Speaker 1: going to kick off. Welcome back into Jagvam, our final
- 25:21Speaker 1: jagxam of the off season. When we come back to
- 25:23Speaker 1: you guys in a few weeks, it will be training
- 25:26Speaker 1: camp and we'll officially be the next year, so we'll
- 25:28Speaker 1: see real football, John, how much pads hitting.
- 25:31Speaker 5: Well, we'll got four or five days at the start.
- 25:33Speaker 4: If you're to sort of go through the acclaimation period,
- 25:37Speaker 4: the acclamation period.
- 25:38Speaker 5: I want an acclamation period, right, the last thirty one
- 25:42Speaker 5: years haven't done it for you? Well, in life, I
- 25:44Speaker 5: could have used an acclamation period. They just threw me
- 25:46Speaker 5: into the pool. We're all good and this is what happened. John.
- 25:50Speaker 1: What's your favorite part of training camp?
- 25:54Speaker 4: The end, because it means the real stuff is really here.
- 25:57Speaker 4: I'm saying that facetiously, but you really do training camp
- 26:02Speaker 4: to get to the games, obviously, But in this case,
- 26:06Speaker 4: the favorite part will definitely be watching the offensive line,
- 26:09Speaker 4: watching the defensive line, finding out if everything we're talking
- 26:12Speaker 4: about is real.
- 26:14Speaker 5: There'll be an energy this year.
- 26:16Speaker 4: There always is, but with this new regime offensive line,
- 26:20Speaker 4: there'll be an energy watching that stuff is this summer.
- 26:22Speaker 3: I like following the storylines.
- 26:23Speaker 2: You get on a guy, you're watching him, whatever position
- 26:27Speaker 2: it is, and then you get to the preseason games
- 26:28Speaker 2: and see if what you've seen on the practice field
- 26:31Speaker 2: can translate whether they really have a chance or if
- 26:34Speaker 2: they're just like one of many flashes in training camp
- 26:37Speaker 2: where they make a play but they can't sustain it.
- 26:40Speaker 2: So I like to see them on Saturday nights, right,
- 26:42Speaker 2: preseason game.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Yes, we get to see it every night, every day.
- 26:46Speaker 1: I mean throughout the year and throughout that month and
- 26:48Speaker 1: kind of get to know them a little bit and
- 26:50Speaker 1: kind of see them as they evolve and as the
- 26:51Speaker 1: team evolves together as well, especially with the new coaching staff.
- 26:54Speaker 1: It should be very fun. So enjoy your summer break.
- 26:57Speaker 1: We'll enjoy our summer break, and we'll see you back
- 26:59Speaker 1: in late live. Let's start training to cont
