Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:06Speaker 2: All right, well, I woke up this morning and I
- 0:09Speaker 2: had a very eventful morning, a very important meeting. Maybe
- 0:13Speaker 2: with regards to this podcast, we'll keep your posts on that.
- 0:15Speaker 2: And then I turned to Twitter or ex however you
- 0:18Speaker 2: want to say it, and I see Jim Walden, who's
- 0:20Speaker 2: an Independent, challenging Mayor Adams to a debate in the
- 0:24Speaker 2: Independent primary.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Now I was in to myself, Wait a minute, Wait.
- 0:29Speaker 2: A minute, do Eric Adams really change parties to Independent
- 0:33Speaker 2: from Democrat? Sure enough, the announcement came down this morning
- 0:38Speaker 2: and Mayor Adams has completed his switch from the Democratic
- 0:43Speaker 2: Party to now the Independent line, where he will be
- 0:46Speaker 2: challenged by Jim Walden. And more so, he gives the
- 0:51Speaker 2: keys to the city virtually to Governor Andrew Cuomo.
- 0:56Speaker 1: And you know everybody talking about.
- 0:57Speaker 2: How President Trump becoming a president again number forty seven
- 1:02Speaker 2: was the greatest political comeback of all the time. I
- 1:04Speaker 2: would say, if Cuomo, who should get the Democratic primary,
- 1:09Speaker 2: does indeed get it over Curtis Labell, who says he
- 1:12Speaker 2: has a lead over.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Both Cuomo and Adams in his polling. If Cuomo beats
- 1:22Speaker 1: everybody and becomes the mayor of New York.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Well, I've seen back to back political comebacks in this
- 1:28Speaker 2: city and I almost can't believe it, because here's a
- 1:32Speaker 2: guy who made five what was a million dollars off
- 1:36Speaker 2: a book of how he quote unquote led the city
- 1:40Speaker 2: through the pandemic. Meanwhile he put nursing patients with COVID
- 1:45Speaker 2: with non COVID, causing more death. It's all a mess.
- 1:49Speaker 2: And five years later he could become the Mayor of
- 1:53Speaker 2: New York. It's a political comeback. It's astonishing, and I
- 1:58Speaker 2: do feel like Mayor Adams has truly committed a bit
- 2:05Speaker 2: of political suicide.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Now I could be wrong.
- 2:07Speaker 2: He could win as an independent, but that's barely done,
- 2:10Speaker 2: rarely done in the city if ever, And so I
- 2:15Speaker 2: wanted to find out why. And Politico today is saying
- 2:18Speaker 2: he needed some time after the federal charges were dropped
- 2:21Speaker 2: yesterday to what do they say here? To recover, to recover,
- 2:28Speaker 2: And I guess he felt the Democratic Party wouldn't help
- 2:30Speaker 2: him recover because they're the ones that put him on
- 2:32Speaker 2: fire and on trial to begin with. But in all seriousness,
- 2:41Speaker 2: don't you think Mayor Adams going independent makes it quomos?
- 2:46Speaker 2: You know, race to lose here in New York City.
- 2:51Speaker 2: This is the biggest story in New York in a
- 2:53Speaker 2: little while. And besides the mayor's charges being dropped and
- 2:59Speaker 2: him being indeed to begin with this next step, and
- 3:07Speaker 2: I just I hope he's put a lot of thought
- 3:09Speaker 2: into it. I hope he's not running away from this
- 3:12Speaker 2: part of the Democratic Party. And also I think it
- 3:15Speaker 2: shows the Democratic parties and chaos when you are indicting
- 3:18Speaker 2: your own mayor and investigating your own mayor, and I
- 3:24Speaker 2: say your own because Democratic parties DJ did this for
- 3:27Speaker 2: simply him calling out the lack of effort to combat
- 3:32Speaker 2: the migrating crisis.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Instead of focusing on that, you go.
- 3:36Speaker 2: And turn your watchdogs and your DOJ on him. That
- 3:42Speaker 2: shows the Democratic Parties in chaos. This is an example
- 3:46Speaker 2: of how chaotic the Democratic Party is. You don't have
- 3:49Speaker 2: your mayor doesn't want to be part of your party. Now,
- 3:53Speaker 2: the New York City mayor, who's typically blue doesn't want
- 3:56Speaker 2: to be part of the Democratic Party. If that's not
- 3:59Speaker 2: a wake up call, If Trump winning wasn't a wake
- 4:02Speaker 2: up call. If Adams moving to the independent line just
- 4:06Speaker 2: because he thinks he can get a better shot and
- 4:08Speaker 2: because he doesn't want to be affiliate with the Democrats anymore.
- 4:11Speaker 1: That says a lot, doesn't it.
- 4:19Speaker 2: So I couldn't just put this on audio. I had
- 4:23Speaker 2: to talk about it because I'm fired up. We are
- 4:25Speaker 2: on the verge of having my sixth present in my
- 4:28Speaker 2: lifetime mayor in my lifetime.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I should say sixth.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Dingins was a lot was pre mayor when I was born.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Then it went to Giuliani. Then of course Juliani has
- 4:40Speaker 2: a couple of terms. Then Mayor Bloomberg won, then the Blasio,
- 4:46Speaker 2: then Adams, and now I believe we're gonna have another mayor.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I don't see how Mayor Adams can win as an independent.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I just don't see it.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Do you?
- 4:56Speaker 2: Email me Alex ALEXJNYC dot com, Alex Alex GYC dot com.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And as I mentioned on my Instagram and Twitter, I'm
- 5:03Speaker 2: no political strategist, but I have to believe that.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I that this is Quomo's race to lose. I have
- 5:18Speaker 1: to believe that. And I don't know.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Maybe Trump's gon to endorse Adams from every then you're
- 5:24Speaker 2: going against Curtis, which would be interesting too. But see
- 5:29Speaker 2: Trump found in Adams and Ally because they both were
- 5:33Speaker 2: pissed off about the Democrat. The Democrat lack of effort,
- 5:38Speaker 2: lack of effort to combat the immigration crisis.
- 5:42Speaker 1: That's where they found and.
- 5:43Speaker 2: They both probably relate because they're both being persecuted by
- 5:47Speaker 2: Biden's DOJ There's no doubt about that. And by Trump's
- 5:55Speaker 2: election it wiped out to federal cases, the one against
- 5:59Speaker 2: Trump and the one against Adams. And there is a simpatico,
- 6:03Speaker 2: a connectionist synchronicity.
- 6:04Speaker 1: There, There's no doubt about it.
- 6:08Speaker 2: And I still believe there was some kind of quid
- 6:11Speaker 2: pro quote.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Dare I say that word? But how is it?
- 6:14Speaker 2: Adams doesn't act on the mayor on the migrant crisis
- 6:18Speaker 2: as hardcore until Trump gets elected and drops the charges.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Was he waiting for that to finally act on mapp
- 6:23Speaker 2: of New Yorkers?
- 6:26Speaker 1: Yeah? I have some concern about the Mayor Adams.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Term, but I also think he should have just stuck
- 6:35Speaker 2: in it as a Democrat. If he truly wanted to
- 6:39Speaker 2: win the Mayor of New York, he should have stuck
- 6:41Speaker 2: in the Democratic Party because that's the.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Only way he could win. I don't see him winning
- 6:46Speaker 1: as an independent.
- 6:48Speaker 2: And now you're given the keys most likely to a
- 6:51Speaker 2: guy who had to resign in disgrace as governor and
- 6:56Speaker 2: now he's coming back on the scene and possibly won't
- 6:59Speaker 2: be the mayor New York.
- 7:02Speaker 1: See.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Does Adams really want the job? That's my question today
- 7:05Speaker 2: on the Women the Up Network because him moving to
- 7:09Speaker 2: the Independent party just gave Andrew Cuomo a leg up
- 7:13Speaker 2: in the NYC mayoral election.
- 7:17Speaker 1: It really did, and.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I'm sure we could all see it, but someone had
- 7:21Speaker 2: to say.
- 7:23Speaker 1: This is not.
- 7:28Speaker 2: It's not good for the mayor currently in power. It's
- 7:31Speaker 2: almost like Biden dropping out of the race entirely when
- 7:34Speaker 2: he when he did, but it feels like that moment
- 7:39Speaker 2: again this time in New York and Biden dropping out,
- 7:46Speaker 2: just like Adam's moving to an independent will give way
- 7:49Speaker 2: to another political comeback. And we do love the comeback
- 7:54Speaker 2: kid sometimes.
- 7:55Speaker 1: But Cuomo.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Cuomo does not handle that pandemic well and I hope
- 8:00Speaker 2: in every debate this year they hold his feet to
- 8:03Speaker 2: the fire on that, because he could have opened this
- 8:08Speaker 2: up even more in the summer of twenty twenty. He'd
- 8:12Speaker 2: have to do press conference this day after day, and
- 8:15Speaker 2: they were helpful at times, but.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Then they got too much.
- 8:20Speaker 2: He won an Emmy for that he made millions off
- 8:23Speaker 2: that decision.
- 8:26Speaker 1: To put sick.
- 8:28Speaker 2: COVID patients nursing into nursing homes, blaming the Trump directives.
- 8:39Speaker 2: But we'll have to see, and is this why Andrew
- 8:43Speaker 2: Cuomo got in the race? Because he knew down the
- 8:46Speaker 2: road he could see he didn't remember he was attorney general.
- 8:49Speaker 1: He could see the law. He could see charges being
- 8:51Speaker 1: dropped way before any of us. He thinks like a lawyer.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Still, so did he get involved in the race because
- 8:58Speaker 2: he knew once the true were officially dropped, this was
- 9:02Speaker 2: gonna happen. And I have to say I think that's
- 9:05Speaker 2: the case, because while that case is closed, there's no doubt,
- 9:12Speaker 2: there's no doubt that he thought Adams would which parties,
- 9:18Speaker 2: That's why he jumped in. If it weren't that way,
- 9:20Speaker 2: he wouldn't have run against a friend, a fellow party incumbent,
- 9:25Speaker 2: someone who's led New York City. I don't think he
- 9:27Speaker 2: would have touched this. But I think he knew in
- 9:30Speaker 2: the back of his mind the charger dropped and Adams
- 9:32Speaker 2: were floating the idea of going independent or another party
- 9:35Speaker 2: in general, he would take advantage.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Of that and now and now.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Instead of digging his heels in and truly wanting to
- 9:45Speaker 2: win reelection. May Or Adams I said earlier, has just
- 9:49Speaker 2: given one leg up to Andrew Cuomo for yet the
- 9:53Speaker 2: second biggest political comeback in as many years.
- 9:57Speaker 1: That's it for now.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I'm Alex Garrett One Leg Up Network and we'll talk
- 10:01Speaker 2: to you soon, Alex said.
