- 1:48Speaker 5: Happy Friday, Welcome to the show. Kind of an abbreviated
- 1:51Speaker 5: work week for a lot of us this week. We
- 1:54Speaker 5: should get back to the normal swing of things next week.
- 1:57Speaker 5: Justin Jonfer snow and ice Mageddon. Remember when we used
- 2:00Speaker 5: to have winter. Now everything has got to have a name,
- 2:03Speaker 5: and they're calling this one Blair winter Storm. Blair to
- 2:06Speaker 5: be exact. We'll have more on that coming up a
- 2:08Speaker 5: little bit later on. Making a return appearance to the
- 2:10Speaker 5: show today, Brian Hughes from a Storm Tracker thirteen. It's
- 2:14Speaker 5: kind of gone back and forth as to what it's
- 2:16Speaker 5: going to be. Now looks like that maybe the snow
- 2:19Speaker 5: not as big a deal, although it is snowing right
- 2:20Speaker 5: now in Charleston. Looks like it's a much bigger deal
- 2:23Speaker 5: is going to be the freezing rain and the sleet.
- 2:25Speaker 5: So we'll talk to Brian about that a little bit
- 2:27Speaker 5: later on. Governor like Morrison is out with a partial
- 2:31Speaker 5: list of some of his whose cabinet members are going
- 2:34Speaker 5: to be at least some of them. Will go over
- 2:36Speaker 5: some of those a little bit later on. And speaking
- 2:38Speaker 5: of appointments, someone who got a pretty big one, State
- 2:40Speaker 5: Senator Mike Stewart.
- 2:41Speaker 6: He'll be over the Judiciary.
- 2:42Speaker 5: Wing in the Senate, and we could be some other
- 2:45Speaker 5: things on the horizon for mister Stewart. Senator Stewart as well,
- 2:48Speaker 5: he was going to be in studio coming up a
- 2:50Speaker 5: little bit later on. Plus always love to get his
- 2:53Speaker 5: take on different things because he's colorful to say the least.
- 2:57Speaker 5: And today is the last day for high on talk
- 3:00Speaker 5: line before he heads off into the sunset of retirement.
- 3:03Speaker 6: I'll spend some time talking about that.

- 3:14Speaker 5: bring it our good friend Hannah Gardner from the Canaral Charleston,
- 3:17Speaker 5: UMaine Association with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of
- 3:19Speaker 5: the Week.
- 3:20Speaker 6: Handah, good morning, Happy new Year.
- 3:22Speaker 7: Good morning, happy Newer. How are you?
- 3:24Speaker 6: I'm doing fine now.
- 3:26Speaker 5: We have a repeat offender this week, as far as
- 3:31Speaker 5: our Pet of the Week goes as always. Picture posted
- 3:34Speaker 5: on Dave Allan Radio, on Facebook and at Dave A
- 3:36Speaker 5: seventy on exit is formally known as Twitter.
- 3:38Speaker 6: We have Cinderella again this week. We had Cinderella last week.
- 3:42Speaker 5: Of course, you were unable to join us last week,
- 3:43Speaker 5: so I talked about Cinderella. So there must be a
- 3:46Speaker 5: If we get the same dog two weeks in a row,
- 3:48Speaker 5: there must really be a big push to try to
- 3:51Speaker 5: find Cinderella home talk about him.
- 3:54Speaker 7: Well, of course we're pushing for everybody to get a home.
- 3:57Speaker 7: We are still full. Our numbers are still up there.
- 4:00Speaker 7: Of course they're going down at our more down as
- 4:03Speaker 7: we adopt our animals, but we are still cool. So yes,
- 4:08Speaker 7: we do want Cunderella to get a home. And of
- 4:10Speaker 7: course she is one that is a little more hyper
- 4:13Speaker 7: and more playful when she isn't a home, so of
- 4:15Speaker 7: course we want to get her into a good home.
- 4:17Speaker 7: She is about a year old. She has microchipped and
- 4:21Speaker 7: vaccinated already, she is stayed already, so she's ready to
- 4:24Speaker 7: go home. She's got everything she needs, she just needs
- 4:27Speaker 7: somebody to take her on home. She is a foster
- 4:30Speaker 7: candidate as well, so if you're not quite ready to
- 4:32Speaker 7: make that full commitment to adopt quite yet, you can
- 4:35Speaker 7: do that. You can take her to a foster for
- 4:37Speaker 7: a weekend, for a night, for the week even just
- 4:40Speaker 7: to see how she goes, and then adopts. This maybe,
- 4:42Speaker 7: but she is around forty three ish pounds and she
- 4:47Speaker 7: wasn't a foster home before, and they did let us know.
- 4:49Speaker 7: I don't think they were planning on adopting or anything
- 4:51Speaker 7: like that, but they did let us know that she
- 4:53Speaker 7: was very hyper. She's got a lot of energy once
- 4:56Speaker 7: she warms up to you, but she's it's pretty shot
- 4:59Speaker 7: for so somebody that is willing to take their time
- 5:02Speaker 7: with her at first, but also willing to be patient
- 5:06Speaker 7: with her how hyper she is with being playful. I
- 5:10Speaker 7: do know that when she's in playgroup she gets along
- 5:14Speaker 7: with the other dogs well, but she does prefer calmer
- 5:17Speaker 7: friends to be siblings or friends or anything like that,
- 5:21Speaker 7: just so that way she isn't too overwhelmed, I think
- 5:25Speaker 7: is the issue with her with who's around other hyperactive dogs.
- 5:29Speaker 7: Beautiful is a candidate to go to a foster home,
- 5:33Speaker 7: even for the weekend.
- 5:34Speaker 5: Yeah, and she's a beautiful dog. And again, if you
- 5:36Speaker 5: want to see Cinderella, we've got her picture posted it
- 5:38Speaker 5: Dave Island Radio on Facebook.
- 5:40Speaker 6: And at Dave A seventy on x.
- 5:42Speaker 5: Let's talk about fostering because sometimes people Hannah, they want
- 5:46Speaker 5: to get involved and they want to help out the pets,
- 5:48Speaker 5: but sometimes for one reason or another, it just doesn't
- 5:51Speaker 5: work out for them to be able to keep to
- 5:54Speaker 5: adopt the dog full time or the cat or whatever.
- 5:57Speaker 5: I've got a good friend of mine that he and
- 5:59Speaker 5: his wife foster cats, so it's not doesn't necessarily when
- 6:02Speaker 5: you hear us say that just like Cinderella was fostered
- 6:05Speaker 5: by someone, and it doesn't mean that it didn't work out.
- 6:09Speaker 5: That means that sometimes people are just in that sort
- 6:11Speaker 5: that they enjoy doing it. They enjoy fostering these pets,
- 6:15Speaker 5: taking them in for a while to get them out
- 6:16Speaker 5: of the trauma that can be the shelter. So that's
- 6:19Speaker 5: a great way for people to get involved if they
- 6:21Speaker 5: have the means to do that. Hannah is to foster
- 6:23Speaker 5: some of these pets.
- 6:25Speaker 7: Yes, a lot of people, but we have actually a
- 6:27Speaker 7: lot of regular fosters that come up and they will
- 6:31Speaker 7: walk some dogs. If they don't walk them, they'll foster
- 6:33Speaker 7: them or anything like that. But a lot of them
- 6:35Speaker 7: that do foster, they aren't planning on adopting at all.
- 6:39Speaker 7: They are literally just fostering to get the dog out
- 6:42Speaker 7: of the shelter. To get it actually helps us learn
- 6:45Speaker 7: them as well, because when they get out of the shelter,
- 6:47Speaker 7: we can learn how they are in a home environment,
- 6:49Speaker 7: which is completely different from the shelter environment. So it
- 6:53Speaker 7: definitely helps us know them a little bit more outside
- 6:56Speaker 7: of the chaos of a shelter.
- 6:58Speaker 5: Agreed, Agreed and gardeners here from the GNAAL Charleston Yumaine

- 7:03Speaker 5: brought to you apartment your hometown baseball team, the Charleston
- 7:06Speaker 5: dirty Birds.
- 7:06Speaker 6: It may be winter time right now.
- 7:08Speaker 5: But before you know it, we're going to be thinking
- 7:09Speaker 5: about baseball over Gomart Ballpark. Check out the twenty twenty
- 7:12Speaker 5: five Dirty Birds schedule, those Dirty Birds merchant more at
- 7:15Speaker 5: dirty birds baseball dot com. HANDA, we're heading into some
- 7:18Speaker 5: bitterly cold weather pretty much the entire month Brian Hughes
- 7:21Speaker 5: tells me for January. So I had a text of
- 7:25Speaker 5: the show yesterday from someone reminding people that, A, you know,
- 7:29Speaker 5: we got to keep a special eye on our pets
- 7:31Speaker 5: outside during this cold weather because it's it's going to
- 7:34Speaker 5: get specially next week. It doesn't look like the snow
- 7:37Speaker 5: is going to be that big of a deal. Toward
- 7:39Speaker 5: the end of next week, well we're talking about wind
- 7:40Speaker 5: chills possibly well below zero. Got to keep an eye
- 7:43Speaker 5: on those outdoor pets.
- 7:46Speaker 7: Yes, yes, if you do have any outdoor pets, make
- 7:48Speaker 7: sure you're paying close attention to the ones that are
- 7:51Speaker 7: out there. I know a lot of people have outside animals,
- 7:55Speaker 7: so just make sure you're paying attention to them. One
- 7:56Speaker 7: that drops below the really cold, you definitely want to
- 8:00Speaker 7: bring them in or if you have any way to
- 8:04Speaker 7: make it better outside. I know that there's a lot
- 8:08Speaker 7: of people that have came up with some new creative ways,
- 8:11Speaker 7: So definitely do your research. Reach out to the shelter.
- 8:13Speaker 7: We can give you some resources. We may even be
- 8:16Speaker 7: able to help you where something is neasy, So definitely
- 8:19Speaker 7: reach out and we can give you any kind of
- 8:22Speaker 7: resources that you need.
- 8:23Speaker 5: And Aly, you did allude to the numbers, so kind
- 8:25Speaker 5: of go over those as we close this morning, talk
- 8:27Speaker 5: about the numbers of the shelter right now.
- 8:30Speaker 7: Yeah, so we're still pretty hot. It seems like every
- 8:35Speaker 7: time that we adopt out a good chunk of them
- 8:37Speaker 7: and we're like we have a few kennels open, we
- 8:40Speaker 7: get just that many, if not a couple more animals
- 8:43Speaker 7: back in. So of course it's still it's kind of
- 8:46Speaker 7: odd because we haven't been this school in the winter,
- 8:49Speaker 7: I don't think, but we're definitely doing a lot better.
- 8:53Speaker 7: We're doing an adoption event right now for twenty twenty
- 8:56Speaker 7: five twenty five dollars adoption, so definitely come out and adopts, foster, donate,
- 9:02Speaker 7: volunteer anything the health out, even if it is just
- 9:04Speaker 7: sharing the social media pages or anything like that.
- 9:08Speaker 5: All Right, and it's always pleasure to talk to you.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Happy New Year. We'll be talking to you plenty in
- 9:12Speaker 5: the year twenty twenty five. And I understand I was
- 9:14Speaker 5: texting with you a little bit back and forth last night,
- 9:16Speaker 5: our good friends across the hall from us here a
- 9:18Speaker 5: V one hundred.
- 9:19Speaker 6: I talked to Logan Scott, the program director.
- 9:20Speaker 5: I think they're going to start making the Adopt Me
- 9:23Speaker 5: Please Pet of the Week part of their things that
- 9:26Speaker 5: some of the things that they do on the air
- 9:27Speaker 5: as well, so I think they're trying to get that
- 9:30Speaker 5: worked out. So maybe our pet could also be featured
- 9:32Speaker 5: on the V one hundred website as well.
- 9:34Speaker 6: So I'll keep you updated on that. Had to be
- 9:36Speaker 6: safe out there. We'll talk soon. Thanks a lot, all right,
- 9:39Speaker 6: you to thank you, Thank you very much.
- 9:40Speaker 5: Handing Gardner canaw Charleston Man association with Cinderella, our Adopt
- 9:44Speaker 5: Me Please Pet of the Week. Cinderella again is one
- 9:47Speaker 5: year old, micro chipped and vaccinated, ready to go home
- 9:51Speaker 5: forty three pounds. Very playful girl has been fostered in
- 9:54Speaker 5: the past, and the foster parents seem to love her.
- 9:57Speaker 5: She does seem to prefer calmer dawg. Though she's a
- 10:00Speaker 5: little bit shy at first, she will warm her up
- 10:02Speaker 5: to you. But before you consider getting Cinderella, an absolutely
- 10:05Speaker 5: beautiful dog again, I'll get the picture posted on my
- 10:07Speaker 5: social media sites. Make sure that you get somebody that's
- 10:11Speaker 5: got the energy, because this is a.
- 10:13Speaker 6: Very, very energetic dog.
- 10:14Speaker 5: She does seem to walk well on a leash, but
- 10:16Speaker 5: you know how energetic dogs can be on a leash,
- 10:19Speaker 5: and so just make sure that you do your due diligence,
- 10:23Speaker 5: make sure that before you get this or any other pet,
- 10:25Speaker 5: that this is the correct pet for you and your family. Again,
- 10:28Speaker 5: you can see Cinderella's picture posted on the social media pages.

- 11:32Speaker 5: Also, we have scheduled to appear on the show the
- 11:36Speaker 5: star of a new movie called Hazard.
- 11:39Speaker 7: Now.
- 11:39Speaker 5: This movie centers around the drug crisis, particularly the pill

- 11:46Speaker 5: West Virginia, Kentucky and Olive, Appalachia, which where the will
- 11:50Speaker 5: where the film takes place. As you may gather by

- 11:56Speaker 5: be on the show on Monday as he and the
- 11:59Speaker 5: crew make their round out promoting the movie. However, you
- 12:02Speaker 5: know by now what the weather's going to be doing
- 12:04Speaker 5: in this area, especially Sunday into Monday. They're actually traveling,
- 12:07Speaker 5: I understand, from Los Angeles to Chicago and then in
- 12:10Speaker 5: the Charleston on on Sunday. Scheduled to be on this
- 12:14Speaker 5: show in person on Monday, and then they're kind of
- 12:16Speaker 5: making their rounds doing all the media stuff. So we'll
- 12:19Speaker 5: see if that works out for them. If it does not,
- 12:21Speaker 5: I promise you I will get them on the show.
- 12:24Speaker 5: I saw the trailer that there uh that the studio
- 12:27Speaker 5: provided me with, and it's been one YouTube by the way,
- 12:30Speaker 5: if you like to go on YouTube, but check it out.
- 12:31Speaker 5: It's just like the town Hazard. Looks like it hits
- 12:35Speaker 5: pretty close to home for a lot of us that
- 12:38Speaker 5: went went through that. And I say went through that,

- 15:57Speaker 8: like to focus on. Those being things like law is
- 16:00Speaker 8: to reform, ethics reform. I think these things are critically important.
- 16:05Speaker 8: But there's other issues like CPS reform that I think
- 16:08Speaker 8: we need to dig into the detail of to make
- 16:11Speaker 8: sure the system's working. We've made a lot of improvements
- 16:14Speaker 8: in West Virginia. I certainly want to be in a
- 16:15Speaker 8: position to help Governor like Morrisey and Senate President elect
- 16:21Speaker 8: Randy Smith to make sure that we're making those improvements
- 16:24Speaker 8: we need to make. But there's a lot of work
- 16:27Speaker 8: we can do on judiciary to make West Virginia a
- 16:29Speaker 8: better place and make sure we're focused on West Virginia.
- 16:31Speaker 6: Families want to talk.
- 16:33Speaker 5: About some of the appointments that Morrissey made. Also want
- 16:36Speaker 5: to talk about Randy Smith. He is the new Center president.
- 16:39Speaker 5: What kind of leader do you think Randy Smith will be.
- 16:41Speaker 8: I think he's going to be a great leader, and
- 16:43Speaker 8: I think it's an inspiring pick for the people of
- 16:46Speaker 8: West Virginia. You know, we get into this mindset and
- 16:48Speaker 8: we heard a bit of this during the whole discussion
- 16:51Speaker 8: as to who's going to be the Senate president. The
- 16:53Speaker 8: idea that you got this degree, or you got that degree,
- 16:56Speaker 8: or you have this professional accomplishment.
- 16:59Speaker 2: You know.
- 16:59Speaker 8: Randy Smith a miner. I come from a coal mining family.
- 17:02Speaker 8: My dad fifty one years coal miner. My grandfather's coal miners.
- 17:06Speaker 8: That's the story of a lot of West Virginians. I
- 17:08Speaker 8: think Randy Smith's story is if you're really smart, and
- 17:11Speaker 8: if you work hard and you're a coal miner, your plumber,
- 17:15Speaker 8: or any other profession, if you work hard and you
- 17:18Speaker 8: want to be in the state Senate or an elected official,
- 17:21Speaker 8: you can do it. And heck, you can even rise
- 17:24Speaker 8: to the highest level and become the lieutenant governor and
- 17:27Speaker 8: the Senate President in the process. I think it's an
- 17:30Speaker 8: inspiring story, and I think he's surrounded by good leaders.
- 17:33Speaker 8: It's not like this is my first ride at the rodeo, right.
- 17:36Speaker 8: I ran the US Attorney's office, four offices across West Virginia,
- 17:41Speaker 8: ninety employees, multime, multime multi million dollar budget, dealt with
- 17:47Speaker 8: law enforcement at the highest levels. I know exactly what
- 17:50Speaker 8: I'm doing here, and I'm prepared to work with Senate
- 17:54Speaker 8: President Smith, our entire leadership team, our caucus, and Governor
- 17:57Speaker 8: elect Morrissey to make sure we're making the improvements we
- 18:00Speaker 8: need to continue building West Virginia so it can be
- 18:03Speaker 8: a place we can raise our families and so we're
- 18:06Speaker 8: safe on our streets and we have good jobs, and
- 18:10Speaker 8: it's a place that people want to be, not place
- 18:13Speaker 8: where they're where they happen to be.
- 18:15Speaker 5: Talking to State Senator Mike Stewart, all right, so what
- 18:17Speaker 5: did you think of some of the Morrissey appointments yesterday?
- 18:19Speaker 5: He was out with the list of those some of
- 18:21Speaker 5: them yesterday, which you think, Well, so.
- 18:23Speaker 8: I don't know all the people, but I think, listen,
- 18:25Speaker 8: one thing I love about Governor Morrissey or governor like Morrissey.
- 18:28Speaker 8: He's a big thinker and he did great things as
- 18:31Speaker 8: Attorney General. I expect great things of him in the
- 18:35Speaker 8: role of governor. And I certainly believe that we're in
- 18:39Speaker 8: a position We've seen big improvements over the past decade.
- 18:44Speaker 8: I think those improvements will continue, and I think he's
- 18:47Speaker 8: in a unique position at this point in time. We
- 18:49Speaker 8: saw the budget figures come out yesterday. They were quite good,
- 18:53Speaker 8: and so I think we're going to be in a
- 18:54Speaker 8: position that we need new ideas, new solutions, but we
- 18:58Speaker 8: actually need to fix, not tinker with things. And so
- 19:01Speaker 8: I think he's a big thinker and he'll provide big
- 19:03Speaker 8: solutions on issues and this will be for the people
- 19:07Speaker 8: of West Virginia to embrace. Change is not easy all
- 19:10Speaker 8: the time. But if you want the next ten years
- 19:13Speaker 8: to be better than the past ten years, or the
- 19:15Speaker 8: next the next century to be better than the last century,
- 19:19Speaker 8: you sometimes have to wholesale fix things that aren't working.
- 19:23Speaker 8: And that's what I expect out of Governor Morrisey. I
- 19:26Speaker 8: believe we'll look back eight years from now and his
- 19:29Speaker 8: legacy will be fixing those things that were systematically broken.
- 19:34Speaker 5: Do you see it as problematic that not all of
- 19:38Speaker 5: the people wore West Virginians that were that were put
- 19:41Speaker 5: in those roles.
- 19:43Speaker 8: We should be inviting the world to our doorstep, and
- 19:46Speaker 8: so I love West Virginians. Listen, I was I'm from
- 19:50Speaker 8: a hauler in Barbara County. I've talked about it many times.
- 19:53Speaker 8: People know my background, but when I was US attorney,
- 19:56Speaker 8: I didn't hire new attorneys to work with me because
- 19:59Speaker 8: they were West f Virginians. I hired the best and brightest.
- 20:02Speaker 8: I didn't care whether they were from California, Massachusetts, Florida,
- 20:07Speaker 8: or West Virginia. We don't get a pass for not
- 20:10Speaker 8: being the best. This is the message to all West Virginians.
- 20:14Speaker 8: You don't get bonus points because you're from here. You
- 20:17Speaker 8: need to work hard. And the reputation of West Virginians
- 20:20Speaker 8: is we do work hard, we hold our own we
- 20:23Speaker 8: do great things. But when we can bring new people
- 20:26Speaker 8: and new ideas to West Virginia, we need to do it.
- 20:29Speaker 8: We need to become the destination place in the world.
- 20:33Speaker 8: And I mean that from the standpoint of competition and
- 20:36Speaker 8: being the best, no excuses cause we're from West Virginia.
- 20:39Speaker 8: It needs to be a rallying cry for the best.
- 20:42Speaker 8: It needs to be the premium product.
- 20:45Speaker 6: I'm not going to stay.

- 21:00Speaker 5: were out Senator with a statement a couple of days
- 21:03Speaker 5: ago about West Virginia being the most expensive state in
- 21:05Speaker 5: the country based on percentage of income for utilities. Now,
- 21:10Speaker 5: let me set this up, and if I'm stating anything incorrectly,
- 21:13Speaker 5: I want you to jump in at any time. Move
- 21:16Speaker 5: dot org the ones who released this study, and they
- 21:18Speaker 5: say the top five states with the most expensive utilities
- 21:22Speaker 5: are and we'll hit the top five from five on down,
- 21:25Speaker 5: Georgia in fifth, Missouri and fourth, Alabama in third, Hawaiian,
- 21:30Speaker 5: sacond and Mountain Mama. West Virginia in the first place
- 21:34Speaker 5: or the worst for the most expensive according to this report. Now, Hawaii,
- 21:39Speaker 5: according to this report, has the highest overall utility prices,
- 21:43Speaker 5: but it's based on a percentage as best I understand it,
- 21:46Speaker 5: of income. And when you look at it that way,
- 21:48Speaker 5: West Virginia has the highest, with the average monthly cost
- 21:51Speaker 5: being six hundred and ninety two dollars a month, that
- 21:53Speaker 5: being about thirteen point seventy four percent of the income
- 21:57Speaker 5: or the house have you want to look at a
- 22:00Speaker 5: per family in West Virginia.
- 22:01Speaker 6: So that's exactly right.
- 22:02Speaker 8: So there's a couple of ways you can look at
- 22:04Speaker 8: the subject right, This was not an attack on utility companies.
- 22:07Speaker 8: There's a whole bunch of ways you can look at
- 22:10Speaker 8: this subject. One, we need to increase incomes of working
- 22:14Speaker 8: West Virginians, meaning we need things like tort reform, and
- 22:17Speaker 8: we need to continue to improve the business climate. We
- 22:20Speaker 8: need to make sure that incomes are rising in West
- 22:23Speaker 8: Virginia so that our utility bills are a smaller percentage
- 22:28Speaker 8: our monthly budget. But the reality today is that because
- 22:33Speaker 8: of national policies that prevent drilling, fracking, and mining, those
- 22:38Speaker 8: assaults from the federal government. I'm certainly hopeful then the
- 22:42Speaker 8: next seventeen days those policies I can guarantee are going
- 22:45Speaker 8: to begin to change. But we have to focus on
- 22:48Speaker 8: improving the job climate in West Virginia so that our
- 22:51Speaker 8: utility costs are less as a percentage of our monthly budgets.
- 22:56Speaker 8: The fact of the matter is working West Virginians have
- 22:58Speaker 8: so much money on a monthly basis or weekly basis,
- 23:02Speaker 8: you can't go beyond that without going into debt and
- 23:05Speaker 8: living off credit cards. We have to focus on what
- 23:08Speaker 8: can we do to lower the price of utility costs
- 23:11Speaker 8: in West Virginia and what a while also mean by that.
- 23:14Speaker 8: Look at West Virginia. There's the other flip side here,
- 23:17Speaker 8: is there a state in the country that has more
- 23:19Speaker 8: natural water resources, more coal, more natural gas. Why are
- 23:24Speaker 8: those utility rates as a percentage of our income so high?
- 23:28Speaker 8: So I think we need to take a deep dive
- 23:30Speaker 8: on this issue understand really well what we can do
- 23:33Speaker 8: to lower those costs. But there are a lot of
- 23:35Speaker 8: things that go into that whole factor. I thought was
- 23:37Speaker 8: fascinating to watch the debate on this subject, and it
- 23:41Speaker 8: was across the board. People attacking utility companies, people attacking
- 23:45Speaker 8: the lack of good jobs and income status in West Virginia.
- 23:49Speaker 8: But we have to make sure that utilities is a
- 23:52Speaker 8: percentage of our monthly budget is low. We shouldn't be
- 23:55Speaker 8: the highest in the country. Hawaii shouldn't be below us
- 23:59Speaker 8: in terms of a percentage of your monthly income. That
- 24:02Speaker 8: monthly income figure, it's real because we have to live
- 24:05Speaker 8: within those budget constraints. So we have to look wholesale,
- 24:09Speaker 8: whether it's psc reforms, whether it's rate reforms, whether it's
- 24:13Speaker 8: the ability to drill freck in mind more easily and
- 24:16Speaker 8: provide those benefits to the people of West Virginia. I
- 24:20Speaker 8: think there's a complex issue, but we need to be
- 24:23Speaker 8: spending time to understand why is it that things went
- 24:26Speaker 8: out of kilter, and that with all those vast resources
- 24:29Speaker 8: we have, we're yet paying as a percentage of our
- 24:32Speaker 8: income more than any other state in the country.

- 24:53Speaker 5: Being a native born West Virginia should not be made
- 24:55Speaker 5: a new DEI category to get a job.
- 24:58Speaker 8: It doesn't work that way. Listen, we have to co
- 25:00Speaker 8: I said this to my kids. I hope everybody in
- 25:03Speaker 8: West Virginia. I think most West Virginia say this is
- 25:05Speaker 8: you got to study hard, you gotta work hard, and
- 25:08Speaker 8: you got to out compete. That's just the way it
- 25:10Speaker 8: works in the world. And if we raise our families
- 25:13Speaker 8: to work hard, study hard, and out compete, we're gonna win,
- 25:17Speaker 8: but West Virginia won't win by being insulated from the
- 25:20Speaker 8: rest of the world.
- 25:21Speaker 12: We compete.
- 25:22Speaker 8: We not only compete with Pennsylvania and Ohio, we compete
- 25:24Speaker 8: with California, and we compete with the rest of the world.
- 25:27Speaker 8: So I welcome the idea of bringing more people from
- 25:30Speaker 8: the outside. And heck, sometimes you lose the forest for
- 25:34Speaker 8: the trees. And what I mean is sometimes being so
- 25:36Speaker 8: insulated inside West Virginia, you get the sense of it
- 25:40Speaker 8: has to be done this way because that's the way
- 25:41Speaker 8: we've always done it. That's a terrible way to look
- 25:44Speaker 8: at things. We ought to be doing things the way
- 25:47Speaker 8: it ought to be done, with best practices and the
- 25:50Speaker 8: best it can be done in the country. The idea
- 25:52Speaker 8: that it's West Virginia is an excuse. That's garbage. We
- 25:55Speaker 8: should never look at it that way. We ought to
- 25:57Speaker 8: compete and want to compete. I want to win at
- 26:00Speaker 8: the highest levels.
- 26:02Speaker 5: Tex says the policy of Trump's and Biden's administrations of
- 26:05Speaker 5: pumping money into the economy is why people can't afford things.
- 26:08Speaker 5: Trump is going to cut taxes for the wealthy and
- 26:10Speaker 5: increased government spending, just like last time.
- 26:13Speaker 8: Now I think it's garbage. That's a garbage comment, that's
- 26:16Speaker 8: a cheap comment without really digging into the policies. Listen,
- 26:19Speaker 8: we have an administration today that has open border policies.
- 26:23Speaker 8: Illegal immigrants flooding our country. We have no idea. In fact,
- 26:26Speaker 8: they're terrorists coming across that border. We've the first policy
- 26:30Speaker 8: of the Biden administration was to shut down the Excel pipeline.
- 26:33Speaker 8: It costs tens of thousands of jobs. The President's right
- 26:37Speaker 8: on this, drilling, fracking, and mining, dropping energy costs so
- 26:41Speaker 8: that transportation costs are lower, meaning grocery prices are lower,
- 26:46Speaker 8: putting money back into the pockets of American consumers so
- 26:49Speaker 8: they can afford to raise their families and afford the
- 26:52Speaker 8: groceries and the gas that goes in the car to
- 26:55Speaker 8: get to the grocery store. These are common sense solutions,
- 26:59Speaker 8: but it's important be money in the pockets of the
- 27:02Speaker 8: people of our country and people of West Virginia. And today,
- 27:05Speaker 8: the fact of the matter is we see credit card
- 27:07Speaker 8: default rates at record highs and folks living off credit
- 27:11Speaker 8: because it's been four years of pain and misery. We've
- 27:14Speaker 8: got to change those things. We've got to get interest
- 27:16Speaker 8: rates down, and we've got to get this economy moving
- 27:19Speaker 8: it in a way that actually can be reflected in
- 27:21Speaker 8: your wallet, just not on Wall Street.
- 27:24Speaker 5: Tex says, Hey, Dave, ask Mike if you supports Second
- 27:27Speaker 5: Amendment rights for medical cannabis patients.
- 27:30Speaker 8: So I think this is an issue, and in fact,
- 27:32Speaker 8: I only think I know this is a federal issue.
- 27:35Speaker 8: And so the law very clearly states it's federal law,
- 27:40Speaker 8: not state law. And there's a difference between the two
- 27:44Speaker 8: that if you're a medical cannabis patient, you can't have
- 27:48Speaker 8: a firearm or even the ammunition that goes in the firearm.
- 27:52Speaker 6: That's federal law.
- 27:54Speaker 8: And so whoever the caller is needs to reach out
- 27:56Speaker 8: to our federal delegation. They can change that overnight by
- 28:00Speaker 8: voting to change those laws. But we in West Virginia
- 28:03Speaker 8: have to follow federal law. People used to give me
- 28:05Speaker 8: a hard time as US attorney because I understood we
- 28:08Speaker 8: had to follow federal law. And that's something that I
- 28:12Speaker 8: always said a US attorney, I'd not be picking and
- 28:14Speaker 8: choosing the laws they enforce. I can only enforce the
- 28:18Speaker 8: laws that are in front of me. And so if
- 28:20Speaker 8: you want that law to change, you need to talk
- 28:21Speaker 8: to the federal Delegation Texas.
- 28:24Speaker 5: Dave, do you or Mike have any idea if the
- 28:26Speaker 5: new governor is going to replace jimmy Riston or not.
- 28:28Speaker 6: I have not heard.
- 28:29Speaker 8: You'll have to ask the new governor. But I can
- 28:31Speaker 8: tell you the new governor I think is going to
- 28:33Speaker 8: have a big, bold agenda, and I think he's going
- 28:36Speaker 8: to have a legislature prepared to put that agenda in place.
- 28:39Speaker 5: I want to ask you, Mike, any comment from you
- 28:42Speaker 5: on the horrific events that we saw New Year's morning
- 28:46Speaker 5: three am in New Orleans and then with a cyber
- 28:48Speaker 5: truck later in front of the Trump Resort in Vegas
- 28:52Speaker 5: in any comment from I mean, obviously it's horrific. Nobody's well, no,
- 28:55Speaker 5: I actually had somebody on the show yesterday that actually
- 28:57Speaker 5: defended it. Okay, but yeah, exactly that was my sentiment exactly,
- 29:04Speaker 5: But your thoughts overall, So.
- 29:07Speaker 8: I think it's a bit so this is a complex issue.
- 29:10Speaker 8: We could talk about for a while. There's no question
- 29:12Speaker 8: we have to condemn these types of activities, and what
- 29:15Speaker 8: happened on the streets of New Orleans could happen on
- 29:17Speaker 8: the streets of Charleston if we're not careful. Open border policies.
- 29:21Speaker 8: I understand that this was an American scene.
- 29:23Speaker 6: You know what I was going to say before I said,
- 29:25Speaker 6: who caused this tragedy?
- 29:27Speaker 8: But listen, we ought to not be increasing the risk
- 29:29Speaker 8: factors faced by Americans. And so whatever the reason behind
- 29:35Speaker 8: this disaffected person causing this immense tragedy, pain and chaos
- 29:41Speaker 8: on the streets of New Orleans and then again in Vegas, Listen,
- 29:44Speaker 8: my wife and I literally were in Vegas two months
- 29:48Speaker 8: ago in October, at the end of October, and we
- 29:50Speaker 8: walked to the Trump Hotel and we saw where that
- 29:55Speaker 8: car was parked in front of that hotel, and listen,
- 29:57Speaker 8: we walked right in that front door, and it could
- 29:59Speaker 8: have been us, and so we as Americans. I've got
- 30:02Speaker 8: a daughter that works in New York City today and
- 30:05Speaker 8: I worry about her every single day. Not only about
- 30:10Speaker 8: terrorist activity. I worry about the rise of violent crime.
- 30:13Speaker 8: We have to get back to the point of being
- 30:16Speaker 8: serious about crime and reducing violent crime in America.
- 30:20Speaker 9: It's soaring.
- 30:21Speaker 8: I don't care what anybody says, that data from the
- 30:24Speaker 8: FBI is very clear. When you see people sleeping in
- 30:27Speaker 8: the subway in New York City, set on fire, burned
- 30:30Speaker 8: to ashes. When you see the terrible stories that are
- 30:34Speaker 8: happening across America. We are at an inflection point where
- 30:39Speaker 8: we have to get serious about violent crime, putting criminals
- 30:42Speaker 8: behind bars, but we need to close that border and
- 30:45Speaker 8: make sure that we never forget there are groups like
- 30:48Speaker 8: ISIS in Iran and all of these terrible militant forces
- 30:54Speaker 8: that hate America out there. We need to make sure
- 30:56Speaker 8: we're strong and that we never forget terrible events like
- 31:00Speaker 8: nine to eleven or what happened on the streets of
- 31:02Speaker 8: New Orleans or that bomb that happened at Trump Tower
- 31:06Speaker 8: in Las Vegas, because I can guarantee they had no
- 31:09Speaker 8: idea that Tesla's was gonna confine that explosion the way
- 31:13Speaker 8: that it did. Right.
- 31:14Speaker 5: I don't mean to make light of this, Mike, and
- 31:16Speaker 5: I know where you're going with this, but I'm just
- 31:17Speaker 5: going to say, if you're planning on causing mass chaos,
- 31:22Speaker 5: probably don't use a Tesla because if you study this,
- 31:27Speaker 5: the explosion actually was contained. And I'm not trying to
- 31:30Speaker 5: downplay it, don't get me wrong. Inside the cyber truck
- 31:33Speaker 5: and it went up. It was the equivalent to maybe
- 31:37Speaker 5: what twenty feet out to the parking lot, and the
- 31:40Speaker 5: windows and the doors remained intact because it held it inside.
- 31:44Speaker 5: I'm not trying to downplay, but that was something really
- 31:48Speaker 5: odd that struck me out of that whole thing.
- 31:50Speaker 9: That wasn't lost on me.
- 31:51Speaker 8: And if the cost of one of those teslas wasn't
- 31:53Speaker 8: what it happens to me, because that was my first
- 31:55Speaker 8: thought on this whole thing was gosh, the terrible disaster
- 31:58Speaker 8: that happened. But secondly, I was like, man, that tesla. Right,
- 32:01Speaker 8: if you're into personal safety and right if you're worried
- 32:05Speaker 8: about your family, that was pretty That was amazing, Right,
- 32:08Speaker 8: those windows didn't even crack.
- 32:10Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, I have one more question about cannabis.
- 32:13Speaker 5: Anytime you're on people want to hit you on cannaba.
- 32:15Speaker 2: I'm talking about it.
- 32:16Speaker 6: How what's that?
- 32:17Speaker 8: Yeah, people listen, this is a religion for some folks.
- 32:20Speaker 8: The whole cannabis issue. We're gonna have to in the
- 32:23Speaker 8: next legislative session. Kentucky just passed the law these vape
- 32:26Speaker 8: shops that have exploded across West Virginia. You'd be surprised
- 32:30Speaker 8: about forty two to forty five percent of all the
- 32:32Speaker 8: products sold in those vape shops, they're not FDA approved.
- 32:37Speaker 8: It's remarkable. Kentucky just passed the law last year. They
- 32:40Speaker 8: said anytime you're selling products that are going to be ingested,
- 32:43Speaker 8: they need to be FDA approved. Now we have Kentucky
- 32:47Speaker 8: vape shops, they're going to start opening up in West Virginia.
- 32:49Speaker 8: Why to skirt the law in Kentucky? This is not
- 32:52Speaker 8: good for us, and we ought to examine that it
- 32:55Speaker 8: ought to be FDA approved if you're selling it to
- 32:58Speaker 8: be ingested in the human body.
- 33:00Speaker 5: Question though, was will you put pressure on federal reps
- 33:03Speaker 5: to re reschedule cannabis so citizens' second men rights aren't violated,
- 33:08Speaker 5: especially those veterans who use medical cannabis.
- 33:11Speaker 8: This person needs to call our federal delegation. I'm just
- 33:13Speaker 8: a citizen in West Virginia, and so I'm going to
- 33:16Speaker 8: be the judiciary people. I'm excited to work here in
- 33:19Speaker 8: West Virginia to try to improve the business climate. Make
- 33:21Speaker 8: sure we're focused on the issues that are on my plate.
- 33:25Speaker 8: But I've learned a long time ago that I only
- 33:28Speaker 8: have so much bandwidth, and so if people listening to
- 33:32Speaker 8: the show think that's really important, they need to call
- 33:34Speaker 8: their federal delegation. They have the impact on that issue.
- 33:38Speaker 8: Stuart has no impact on what those laws happen to be.
- 33:42Speaker 5: All Right, Mike, before we close, let me talk about you. Congratulations.
- 33:45Speaker 5: As I said on your appointment, what's the future look
- 33:47Speaker 5: like for you? I keep hearing your name, Mike possing up,
- 33:51Speaker 5: popping up as a possible member in some way of
- 33:54Speaker 5: the Trump administration.
- 33:56Speaker 8: Well, listen, I'm happy to be the Judiciary Chair, and
- 33:58Speaker 8: I'm excited to be here in West Virginia, and so
- 34:01Speaker 8: I'm going to leave it to the administration. We're still
- 34:04Speaker 8: really early in the process. If you remember back in
- 34:06Speaker 8: twenty sixteen when I was a member of Trump forty five,
- 34:09Speaker 8: it was July of twenty seventeen, after he'd been soworn
- 34:15Speaker 8: in that I was actually named, and it was almost
- 34:19Speaker 8: a year before I was put into the seat of
- 34:21Speaker 8: US Attorney. I'm going to leave it to the administration.
- 34:23Speaker 8: I'm certainly incredibly supportive of the entire administration policies and
- 34:28Speaker 8: objectives here to build America first, finally again, and strengthen
- 34:33Speaker 8: working families all across this country. But I'm going to
- 34:36Speaker 8: do all I can to make sure President Trump and
- 34:38Speaker 8: his team are successful in putting that agenda into place.
- 34:42Speaker 6: If that call comes, you'll let us know, though, right.
- 34:45Speaker 8: I'll certainly let you know. But I think that call
- 34:47Speaker 8: would come from the President. But I'm not actively seeking that.
- 34:50Speaker 8: I'm excited, but you're not going to turn it down either.
- 34:52Speaker 8: If it comes, well, it depends on what the offer is. Right.
- 34:54Speaker 8: I want to when your president calls, you get a
- 34:57Speaker 8: chance to serve your country. It means you not only
- 34:59Speaker 8: get a serta the people of West Virginia, but the
- 35:01Speaker 8: nation as well. That's something that's very hard to say
- 35:03Speaker 8: no to.
- 35:04Speaker 5: All Right, appreciate you being here, Mike. Thanks a lot man.
- 35:06Speaker 5: We'll talk soon.

- 37:21Speaker 5: I gotta do my little bit on Hoppy kerchival leaving
- 37:24Speaker 5: as well. Let me bring in though now at meteorologist
- 37:26Speaker 5: Brian Hughes again from storm Track at thirteen.
- 37:28Speaker 6: Good morning, sir, Good morning.
- 37:30Speaker 9: How are you doing today?
- 37:31Speaker 5: I am doing fine, and I'm gonna keep it brief
- 37:33Speaker 5: because I know you got a lot of stuff that
- 37:35Speaker 5: you got to cover today, all right, So you told
- 37:39Speaker 5: me I texted you this morning and you this is
- 37:41Speaker 5: a direct quote from your text. We have nailed down
- 37:43Speaker 5: Sunday and Monday. We'll get to that in a moment.
- 37:46Speaker 5: But what about what about today? Because I'll tell you
- 37:50Speaker 5: when I was surprised when I got to Charleston this
- 37:52Speaker 5: morning at about seven thirty ish, there was nothing in Charleston.
- 37:57Speaker 5: My lawn in day's valley was covered, but there was
- 37:58Speaker 5: no snow here. But it's coming down now in Charleston.
- 38:00Speaker 5: So what about today, Well, you.
- 38:02Speaker 3: Know the difference is, you know, you can step outside
- 38:04Speaker 3: the studio right now and you can see there's nothing
- 38:06Speaker 3: on the grass, but you can look up on top
- 38:08Speaker 3: of the hill and there's snow up on the top
- 38:10Speaker 3: of the hill. There's a southfield. So I give this
- 38:12Speaker 3: is very elevation based for today. And when I say that,
- 38:15Speaker 3: if you're by the river, you're gonna see the snowfall,
- 38:18Speaker 3: but it will melt nearly on instant. But you gets
- 38:21Speaker 3: top the hills, you're gonna have some of it retain,
- 38:24Speaker 3: you know, the frozen sort of makeup of it, and
- 38:28Speaker 3: you're gonna have light dusting. But really, if we look
- 38:31Speaker 3: at any snow today in the Canal Valley, you're going
- 38:33Speaker 3: to see at best up to an inch.
- 38:35Speaker 9: But once you get up there in the mountains of
- 38:37Speaker 9: West Virginia, you.
- 38:37Speaker 3: Don't Summersville, they're going to have three to five inches
- 38:39Speaker 3: worth of snow, and then you get the way up
- 38:41Speaker 3: the snow so they're gonna have five to eight maybe
- 38:43Speaker 3: in some cases a little bit higher than that. But
- 38:45Speaker 3: today's snow is just going to be more nuisance than anything,
- 38:49Speaker 3: and it's gonna make the roads wet.
- 38:51Speaker 9: But anything that's wet as we get past about nineteen
- 38:55Speaker 9: o'clock tonight will.
- 38:56Speaker 3: Freeze because we've got temperatures will drop into the low
- 38:58Speaker 3: twenties and upper team tonight.
- 39:00Speaker 5: All right, so tomorrow's a quiet day. And this forecast
- 39:04Speaker 5: for Sunday has been fine tune and back and forth
- 39:06Speaker 5: and back and forth.
- 39:07Speaker 6: Where are we now, sir.
- 39:09Speaker 3: Well, we're still the mindset that we are going to
- 39:12Speaker 3: be dealing with the snow, and the only thing.
- 39:15Speaker 9: That's happened is we've spent up the time a little bit.
- 39:17Speaker 3: So it'll start Sunday morning at about mid morning, and
- 39:21Speaker 3: we'll see possibly one to three inches of snow that
- 39:23Speaker 3: will lay down, you know, within just a few hours
- 39:26Speaker 3: on Sunday morning up to the midday. Then as we
- 39:30Speaker 3: get into the early afternoon, the freezing rain to sleep
- 39:33Speaker 3: and freezing rain and then rain slowly start to work.
- 39:36Speaker 3: As we say on that wedge up corridor g and
- 39:39Speaker 3: up by seventy nine. As we get into Sunday evening
- 39:42Speaker 3: and night, you know that we could see rain all
- 39:44Speaker 3: the way far north as cartrig maybe Morgantown. So that
- 39:47Speaker 3: cuts that snow total from Huntington to you know, Charleston,
- 39:51Speaker 3: back over to near Faith. They'll cut it down significantly
- 39:53Speaker 3: where we could even wash most of it out by
- 39:56Speaker 3: sunrise on Monday morning.
- 39:58Speaker 9: But on the back side of the system we get
- 40:00Speaker 9: another little.
- 40:00Speaker 3: Layer of snow that could be one to two maybe
- 40:03Speaker 3: three inches. So we go snow Sunday morning, one to
- 40:07Speaker 3: three inches. It washes away as we go on a
- 40:10Speaker 3: Sunday evening and night, and then Monday we put another
- 40:13Speaker 3: layer of snow back down.
- 40:15Speaker 9: With the trick about that snow that.
- 40:16Speaker 3: Comes in Monday morning later on into the midday and
- 40:20Speaker 3: afternoon of hours, whatever snow lays down and sticks will
- 40:24Speaker 3: stay with us for days and days and days.
- 40:28Speaker 5: So if people were looking for the big giant snowstorm,
- 40:31Speaker 5: so to speak, Brian, this ain't it. Because you're because
- 40:35Speaker 5: you're gonna get the snow that's going to fall, as
- 40:37Speaker 5: you said, Sunday, maybe one to three inches, but then
- 40:39Speaker 5: the rain is going to kind.
- 40:40Speaker 6: Of wash it away because of that wedge.
- 40:42Speaker 5: But then, you know, I think a lot of people
- 40:45Speaker 5: like yourself are concerned about the sleet and freezing rain
- 40:47Speaker 5: and then we go back to snow on Monday.
- 40:50Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's the one thing that we were really
- 40:53Speaker 3: trying to trying to get our arms around the freezing
- 40:58Speaker 3: rain potential because we could see attempt a quarter of
- 41:02Speaker 3: an inch. There might be a spot or two that
- 41:03Speaker 3: has half an inch. New forecast models have higher totals
- 41:06Speaker 3: on freezing rain for Sunday mid afternoon, in this early
- 41:12Speaker 3: Sunday evening and even just you know, three to four,
- 41:16Speaker 3: maybe even five hours of freezing rain, that's a problem
- 41:19Speaker 3: and that's you know, power lines coming down, that's trees
- 41:22Speaker 3: coming up on the power lines, and so you know
- 41:25Speaker 3: that is a big concern. But you know, especially if
- 41:28Speaker 3: you get a little wind with it, which everything is
- 41:30Speaker 3: going to be breezy on Sunday into Monday. So that's
- 41:35Speaker 3: the last little piece of the puzzle that we're trying
- 41:37Speaker 3: to figure out. But more than anything, snow wedge warms
- 41:41Speaker 3: it up, washes away, and then it's snow again on Monday,
- 41:44Speaker 3: and then we go into an arctic freeze after that.
- 41:46Speaker 5: All right, quick text for you says, ask Brian about
- 41:48Speaker 5: the warm wedge which will went out and the central
- 41:51Speaker 5: West Virginia area including Charleston will have rain after a
- 41:53Speaker 5: bit of snow. The warm wedge always wins out, Brian.
- 41:57Speaker 9: It always does, and it's just one of those things.
- 42:01Speaker 3: It's on the northern fringe of the mountain chain, and
- 42:04Speaker 3: when you just get a southwest wind, it essentially comes
- 42:07Speaker 3: out of the the.
- 42:10Speaker 9: Ten Tom area.
- 42:11Speaker 3: You get back into parts in northern Alabama and back
- 42:14Speaker 3: into Tennessee.
- 42:15Speaker 9: And you just get a little warm air just on
- 42:16Speaker 9: the northern side of the mountain chain.
- 42:18Speaker 3: It just gets drawn up ahead of these storm systems,
- 42:20Speaker 3: and then that's always winds because you can't overcome that
- 42:24Speaker 3: warm air unless you have Arctic air that's going to
- 42:27Speaker 3: take over immediately after that. So the warm wedge always
- 42:30Speaker 3: winds on moderate storm systems with just enough cold. But
- 42:35Speaker 3: if this was an Arctic front that was moving in
- 42:38Speaker 3: just as the storm got here, it would be a
- 42:40Speaker 3: little bit different.
- 42:41Speaker 9: But that is up the case warm wedge winds.
- 42:42Speaker 5: So we're going to have the Arctic later on in
- 42:44Speaker 5: the week, but there's not going to be precipitation, at
- 42:47Speaker 5: least not as much like as I say, like Wednesday Thursday,
- 42:49Speaker 5: it's going to be much colder, but we're not going
- 42:51Speaker 5: to have the snow to work with at that point.
- 42:53Speaker 3: Is that what you're saying, right, The best we're going
- 42:55Speaker 3: to have is is the occasional little snow shower upslope,
- 42:58Speaker 3: snowshowers of the mountains.
- 42:59Speaker 9: Sit down here in the canal valley.
- 43:01Speaker 3: We're going to see the occasional snowshower snow flurries on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
- 43:07Speaker 3: and then we want to see what happens, you know,
- 43:09Speaker 3: next weekend. There is there have been some indications of
- 43:12Speaker 3: a couple forecast modelsor might be a storm system next weekend.
- 43:15Speaker 3: But you know, just as it was one one forecast
- 43:18Speaker 3: model at three o'clock this morning, the forecast model eight
- 43:21Speaker 3: am did not have it on there.
- 43:22Speaker 9: So we're still watching next week.
- 43:25Speaker 6: All right, Brian, I appreciate it, man, we'll talk soon.
- 43:27Speaker 12: Be saved.
- 43:27Speaker 6: Thanks a lot. Sounds good, all right, Bryan Hughes.

- 43:40Speaker 5: Let me knock out some texts here before we go
- 43:41Speaker 5: to break. Going back to the utility story, Texas, the
- 43:44Speaker 5: Data Center project that the legislature failed to act on
- 43:47Speaker 5: would have acted to spread fixed utility cost over a
- 43:51Speaker 5: wider demand base, essentially lowering utility cost for all rate
- 43:54Speaker 5: players in southern West Virginia. Legislature failed and should have
- 43:58Speaker 5: acted to get that deal done with Yorkshire Hathaway, says
- 44:01Speaker 5: a TEXTA Texas says, to Mike Stewart used to be
- 44:03Speaker 5: the US attorney in West Virginia.
- 44:04Speaker 6: I had no idea. I think that said with sarcasm.
- 44:08Speaker 6: I think it is. Text says.
- 44:10Speaker 5: As a weed consumer and a gun owner, I can
- 44:13Speaker 5: say for sure that Mike Stewart is wrong. It's only
- 44:15Speaker 5: against the law if you get caught, says, don't come
- 44:18Speaker 5: crying to me when somebody asks for that number. That's
- 44:20Speaker 5: all I'm saying, Texas, Mike Stewart, you're a citizen with
- 44:25Speaker 5: more pull and influence than this janitor. Also, you're a
- 44:28Speaker 5: staunch and Second Amendment supporter and a veteran supporter. Also
- 44:31Speaker 5: sound like a can kicker whose support for veterans and
- 44:34Speaker 5: the Second Amen rights is narrow, says a Texter Texas says,
- 44:39Speaker 5: how can we be certain that an is to cell
- 44:41Speaker 5: in this country illegally didn't get to the terrorists from Texas.
- 44:45Speaker 6: We can't. So, yes, the open border could have had

- 44:51Speaker 5: No one should be surprised that the new governor, Patrick

- 48:26Speaker 5: did not meet him in person until I don't know,
- 48:28Speaker 5: sometime maybe mid to late nineties. He and Stephen Reid
- 48:31Speaker 5: came down to Logan, where I was doing radio at
- 48:33Speaker 5: the time, to do a live talk line show from
- 48:35Speaker 5: the Colefield Jamboree Theater. I'm not really sure why they
- 48:39Speaker 5: came down. I don't remember that, do remember coming, and
- 48:42Speaker 5: it was the first time I met him in person,
- 48:44Speaker 5: but I felt like I already knew him, and Hoppy
- 48:47Speaker 5: kind of has the ability to do that. And through
- 48:50Speaker 5: the years we talked occasionally, but you know, like you,
- 48:53Speaker 5: I was a listener. I did the morning show on
- 48:56Speaker 5: WVW Radio and Logan for over twenty years, and some
- 49:00Speaker 5: of my duties and when I got off the air
- 49:02Speaker 5: included putting Hoppy Kirchwell on the air and do my
- 49:05Speaker 5: sign offs and whatever on the local call and show.
- 49:08Speaker 5: And then I would just run down the hall and
- 49:09Speaker 5: put put Hobby Kirchwelle on talk line at at ten
- 49:12Speaker 5: oh six, and and so I listened, went back into
- 49:16Speaker 5: my office or whatever I was doing, as best I could.
- 49:18Speaker 5: I listened to some of those names along with Hoppy,
- 49:21Speaker 5: Don Marsh of course, Logan County Guy, Kay Murray, Stephen
- 49:25Speaker 5: Reid mentioned him earlier, Don Cook, and so many names
- 49:28Speaker 5: that made the show great in the early days. But
- 49:31Speaker 5: the star, the star was always Hoppy. But I do
- 49:35Speaker 5: want to clarify that for a moment by saying the
- 49:37Speaker 5: real stars, and I'm sure Hoppy would tell you this.
- 49:40Speaker 6: The real stars were the guests to the show, the.
- 49:43Speaker 5: Governors, senators, legislators, authors, you name it. They were the stars,
- 49:50Speaker 5: as were you the listeners, and later the the It
- 49:53Speaker 5: was the callers early on. Now it's calls and text.
- 49:58Speaker 5: And I've said this before, you I know you've made
- 50:00Speaker 5: a difference when people don't refer to the show by
- 50:03Speaker 5: its given name talk Line, but rather they refer.
- 50:06Speaker 6: To it as Hoppy.
- 50:08Speaker 5: You know, I worked in state government for four years,
- 50:12Speaker 5: and I've been around politics in one form or another
- 50:14Speaker 5: for the biggest part of eleven years, and I can
- 50:17Speaker 5: tell you a lot of the talk daily was did
- 50:19Speaker 5: you hear what fill in name here said on Hoppy today?
- 50:22Speaker 5: Or who's on Hoppy today? And I guess the rest
- 50:26Speaker 5: of the country kind of caught onto the hobby kerchival phenomenon,
- 50:31Speaker 5: primarily due to out going Senator Joe Manchin. When they
- 50:35Speaker 5: wanted to know what Joe was thinking on a particular
- 50:37Speaker 5: build or something like that, they tuned into Hoppy because
- 50:40Speaker 5: they soon learned that Hoppy would have the info first,
- 50:44Speaker 5: you know, and from his coverage of West Virginia University,
- 50:47Speaker 5: his daily commentaries just all just amazing stuff.
- 50:51Speaker 6: And I told this story. I'll close this.
- 50:53Speaker 5: A couple of years ago, Hopy was in town covering
- 50:55Speaker 5: the legislature and had a little downtime and there was
- 50:57Speaker 5: a major apartment fire in Charleston.
- 51:00Speaker 6: What did Hopy do?
- 51:00Speaker 5: He left his hotel, went down with his phone and
- 51:02Speaker 5: his notepad and was doing in doing live reports from there.
- 51:08Speaker 5: Hoppy Kerchival was doing that for for Metro News in
- 51:11Speaker 5: the local w c HS here in Charleston. And you know,
- 51:14Speaker 5: I took over the show from Danny Jones back in
- 51:19Speaker 5: twenty twenty, and certainly was not easy following someone like
- 51:22Speaker 5: Danny Jones. The first emails of encouragement, though I got,
- 51:26Speaker 5: and sometimes I will say constructive criticism came from Hoppy
- 51:30Speaker 5: Kerchival and for that I will be forever in his debt.
- 51:34Speaker 5: And you know he's going to pop up from time
- 51:38Speaker 5: to time on talk Line, which starting.
- 51:40Speaker 6: On Monday, will be hosted by Dave Wilson and TJ. Meadows.
- 51:43Speaker 5: Don't be surprised if you hear him on there from
- 51:45Speaker 5: time to time. Sports Line. He may still do the
- 51:50Speaker 5: Three Guys.
- 51:51Speaker 6: Actually, he's still going to do Three Guys.
- 51:53Speaker 5: He's going to be around the state tournaments, in March
- 51:56Speaker 5: and and hopefully he'll be available to continue to serve
- 52:02Speaker 5: as a mentor.
- 52:05Speaker 6: Two people like myself and TJ.
- 52:08Speaker 5: Meadows and Dave Wilson and so many others that do
- 52:11Speaker 5: what we do throughout the Metro News family around the
- 52:14Speaker 5: state of West Virginia. Hoppy, thank you, You're the goats.
- 52:19Speaker 5: As Dave Wilson has coined it, greatest of all time.
