- 0:54Welcome to Lunch with the Clydesdales.
- 0:58Ryan State got one of those awesome
- 1:01messages today on a team's message at
- 1:04work.
- 1:04I started CrossFit.
- 1:05Couldn't be happier for a colleague to
- 1:07reach out and tell me.
- 1:08That's awesome.
- 1:10Well, if you started CrossFit,
- 1:11he's probably going to be telling you a
- 1:12lot more.
- 1:13Yeah.
- 1:14I mean, that's part of the deal.
- 1:15As soon as you sign up, it's like,
- 1:16hey, you got to tell everybody you know.
- 1:18Yep.
- 1:18So, yeah.
- 1:25May fourth, nineteen seventy.

- 1:34No.
- 1:36The intro song is so awesome.
- 1:38Thanks, Ken.
- 1:41Scott wrote it himself.
- 1:42Welcome back, Corey.
- 1:44Thanks, Vic.
- 1:46Train all over to cowboy.
- 1:49Um, yeah, good stuff.
- 1:51A lot of people in the chat.
- 1:54Um,
- 1:54I made a thumbnail thinking that Corey was
- 1:57probably still traveling and,
- 2:00and so switch it all up.
- 2:03We were going to be traveling and, uh,
- 2:06yesterday afternoon or yesterday morning,
- 2:08whatever it was,
- 2:09Jennifer decided she wanted to go home
- 2:11straight after.
- 2:12And, uh,
- 2:14Did my last event,
- 2:15watched my buddy Chris punch his ticket on
- 2:19the last event.
- 2:21Went back to Airbnb, did all of the,
- 2:24you know, get out of the Airbnb stuff.
- 2:26We grabbed a bite to eat,
- 2:27got on the road,
- 2:28got home a little bit before eleven
- 2:30o'clock last night.
- 2:32Wow.

- 3:07As of last night,
- 3:08they still had some salted caramel left.
- 3:12It's not going to be around forever,
- 3:14folks.
- 3:14Go get it.
- 3:14Get it while it's there.
- 3:17So awesome.
- 3:20So I want to get a rundown of
- 3:24how Magic City was on the whole.
- 3:28Then after we're done with that,
- 3:30we're going to go into how it was
- 3:31for you.
- 3:32Perfect.
- 3:36Let me start by saying this,
- 3:37and I told Nick of this,
- 3:39I think yesterday,
- 3:40whenever I stopped him for a little bit.
- 3:44I have been to, as far as,
- 3:46you know, large comps are concerned,
- 3:47I've been to Legends, I've been to MFC,
- 3:49I've been to Fitness to the Coast,
- 3:51Monster Games, all that stuff.
- 3:53This was not even close as far as
- 3:55just straight quality is concerned,
- 3:59you know, on the high end side, right?
- 4:02Yeah.
- 4:04volunteers everywhere paid judges um the
- 4:09only the the only and just i don't
- 4:12really even want to call it negatives but
- 4:14i guess semi-bad things i could say is
- 4:16that there weren't a whole lot of vendors
- 4:18Right.
- 4:19So like there's people that were selling
- 4:21shoes.
- 4:22There were people that were, uh,
- 4:24there was food trucks outside in the
- 4:25parking lot across the street from the
- 4:28parking lot from us.
- 4:30Wasn't that far of a walk,
- 4:31but that was the only food that we,
- 4:33uh, that there was to be had.
- 4:35Um, but there was an IV, you know,
- 4:39people, people doing IV fluids, uh,
- 4:42that also had some free Norma tech boots
- 4:44that I took full advantage of.
- 4:46There was some other stuff in there.
- 4:47The guys selling coffee were absolutely
- 4:49smashing it.
- 4:50They did a fantastic job.
- 4:54When I tell you we ran on time,
- 4:56we ran on time.
- 4:59I've never seen anything like it.
- 5:00Everybody to the corral, hey,
- 5:03we are leaving in ninety seconds.
- 5:05And we left in ninety seconds.
- 5:07Got everybody out to the floor, situated,
- 5:10talked to your judge, hey,
- 5:10you're going to have about two minutes to
- 5:12get your stuff set up.
- 5:12We had two minutes to get our stuff
- 5:14set up.
- 5:15know wipe down the bar whatever whatever
- 5:17else you need to do get moving and
- 5:20get into the event uh the athlete the
- 5:26warm-up area didn't seem like there was a
- 5:29lot of stuff there but it was enough
- 5:30stuff from how we were laid out to
- 5:33where nobody was like you know fighting
- 5:36over equipment or it didn't seem like it
- 5:38was cramped or anything and it really
- 5:40wasn't that big of an area but it
- 5:41was
- 5:43it's just well put together i don't know
- 5:45a better way to put it um i
- 5:48think every volunteer i possibly could um
- 5:50on the on the way out of there
- 5:52yesterday because of how well it actually
- 5:55went fantastic no i take it they didn't
- 5:57have asian flavor punch and i was shocked
- 6:00honestly because i've seen them everywhere
- 6:03i've gone and they weren't there this
- 6:06weekend so they must have had another
- 6:08another commitment somewhere else
- 6:10um but on on as a whole event
- 6:15from programming to flow to you know i
- 6:20could nitpick stuff if i wanted to but
- 6:22it really would be just that it would
- 6:23be epic oh i'm not just ten out
- 6:26of ten so from the stream it didn't
- 6:30appear there were a lot of people in
- 6:32the crowd now we got reports last night
- 6:35that
- 6:37cameras were kind of facing away from the
- 6:39crowd they were they were how would you
- 6:43assess the crowd um so friday was
- 6:47definitely thin but it was friday right
- 6:50you've got to work whatnot saturday a lot
- 6:53more people showed up um my wife being
- 6:56one of them uh and then sunday i
- 6:59mean the place is huge
- 7:03Like they need to understand that the
- 7:05Birmingham crossplex is it's a giant is
- 7:09absolutely massive as far as that's
- 7:11concerned.
- 7:12So there were people standing behind the
- 7:16barricade for, uh, in the,
- 7:18in bill Harrison arena,
- 7:20but there are also people in the stands.
- 7:23Now they were spread out because they
- 7:24could be right.
- 7:25And there's only one area to look like
- 7:27there was no seating behind the stands.
- 7:29There was no need for it.
- 7:30Um, so standing behind the barricade,
- 7:33people sitting up there, I mean,
- 7:36from an athlete perspective, I mean,
- 7:38the people I cared about were there and
- 7:40yelling and the people that couldn't make
- 7:42it were yelling from home.
- 7:43So it really wasn't, uh,
- 7:45it really wasn't that big a deal as
- 7:46far as that's concerned.
- 7:48I don't think I know that, um,
- 7:53to get a decent spot,
- 7:55like to sit down and watch, uh,
- 7:57Gwen and whatnot.
- 7:59There were a lot of people in the
- 8:00stands, right?
- 8:02So people standing on the railing,
- 8:04people sitting down and whatnot.
- 8:06It felt like there was a lot of
- 8:07people there.
- 8:11Uh, Corey,
- 8:12did you catch up with my friend Jason
- 8:13veins from Connecticut?
- 8:15Jason vines and I are, uh, uh,
- 8:20ridiculously tight that's my homie i love
- 8:22that dude to death he and i are
- 8:24finished uh yesterday and uh next to each
- 8:28other on the floor which is where we
- 8:29usually end up anyway um yeah one hundred
- 8:31percent that's my boy love that dude and
- 8:34becky his wife they are fantastic human
- 8:36beings alita says there are a lot of
- 8:39withdrawals no shows in men's thirty five
- 8:41to thirty nine i think there just was
- 8:45It was a disappointing showing,
- 8:47and we talked about that going into the
- 8:50event.
- 8:52I was talking to some people last night,
- 8:55and I'm going to try to do this
- 8:57in a way that... Diplomatically?
- 9:00Yes.
- 9:01Got it.
- 9:03There was at least one age group where
- 9:08the twentieth-ranked person from the
- 9:12quarters...
- 9:14Maybe even lower than that.
- 9:17And got their ticket to the games.
- 9:19Got it.
- 9:20Because they had to go down so far
- 9:24in the invite list that that's just what
- 9:31happened in that age group.
- 9:34few people accepted that someone who
- 9:37probably and that's in this is an older
- 9:40age group where they're only taking
- 9:43fifteen today right and so I think it's
- 9:50it's tough when things like that happen
- 9:52when you're trying to create and establish
- 9:54something yeah
- 9:56And especially, I mean, look,
- 9:57Boz was there.
- 10:00Chuck Carswell was there walking around
- 10:02and shaking babies, kissing hands.
- 10:05You know,
- 10:06Bob's taking pictures with everybody,
- 10:07chatting up everybody and whatnot.
- 10:10They were very, very well.
- 10:11I think I actually get a chance to
- 10:12talk to Chuck.
- 10:12He was very, very enthusiastic,
- 10:16positive on the up and up about it.
- 10:18You know,
- 10:20as far as it being a thing,
- 10:21you know,
- 10:22it was given all the credit to Micah
- 10:24for putting the whole thing together and
- 10:26whatnot.
- 10:26And I didn't see Micah stop moving every
- 10:29time I saw him.
- 10:29He was doing something.
- 10:31Like,
- 10:31for us to stop him and talk to
- 10:33him for five minutes yesterday,
- 10:34it looked like he was, like,
- 10:37chomping at the bit to go do something,
- 10:39you know,
- 10:40to try to keep the ball rolling,
- 10:42which that's concerning.
- 10:43So, I mean, from an athlete's perspective,
- 10:47I don't know anybody that was bitching
- 10:48about anything that happened.
- 10:49Does that make sense?
- 10:51Like, as far as for us,
- 10:53the athletes that were there competing was
- 10:55concerned.
- 10:57Alito says,
- 10:57but also quarterfinals didn't test
- 10:59strength.
- 11:00So it is plausible that a different type
- 11:01of athlete did well at quarterfinals
- 11:04versus live competition in this particular
- 11:07case.
- 11:07And again, I'm not trying to,
- 11:09they qualified based on the rules of this
- 11:12season and those to them for doing it,
- 11:16but their struggle was gymnastics in
- 11:19quarterfinals.
- 11:21And that is going to be a requirement
- 11:23at the games.
- 11:26So, again,
- 11:30I think the way it was done this
- 11:33year put too much pressure on the event
- 11:35organizers to come up with workouts for
- 11:42every age group within a matter of a
- 11:47short amount of time.
- 11:48everything was compressed legends magic
- 11:52city in person in affiliate semis
- 11:55compressed into three weeks,
- 11:58which were ridiculous.
- 12:02And with all of that,
- 12:05I think they did a pretty darn good
- 12:07job overall.
- 12:10Some things we sure could,
- 12:12but it was a lot.
- 12:14And I,
- 12:14and I argued last night pretty vehemently.
- 12:17I, I don't think going for,
- 12:20I think going forward,
- 12:21we should do thirty five to forty nine
- 12:24year olds in person till we figure it
- 12:26out.
- 12:28Cause it's easier to program for that
- 12:30smaller batch of,
- 12:33It's they're the ones that have more
- 12:35attendance in the field.
- 12:36And I might even leak that to fifty
- 12:39four.
- 12:40But even that I'm I'm wavering on with
- 12:43even with myself a little bit.
- 12:47We have to reduce the number of heats
- 12:50that happen and we need to make it
- 12:53a watchable experience.
- 12:55If you're going to have in person.
- 12:59I know by the end of the day
- 13:01yesterday,
- 13:02people sitting there watching Gwen,
- 13:06it wasn't just the age group people who
- 13:09cared about that age group watching the
- 13:11people that were doing Gwen.
- 13:12Everybody was in that arena watching
- 13:13people doing Gwen,
- 13:14if that's what they were doing.
- 13:16And everybody was screaming like there was
- 13:17a dude in thirty five, thirty nine.
- 13:21Right.
- 13:21That big dude at the very end who
- 13:24was when I tell you the crowd was
- 13:27trying to lift him up to finish it.
- 13:30Like it was something that you'd have seen
- 13:31at, at, uh, you know,
- 13:33at regionals back in the day,
- 13:34like people just screaming for him to just
- 13:36not let go of the bar and you
- 13:37can watch it falling out of his fingertips
- 13:40as he was standing there with it in
- 13:41the hang.
- 13:42And it was like that,
- 13:44there was a handful of moments like that
- 13:46where people were just, you know,
- 13:47the crowd was really into it,
- 13:49whatever crowd it was there having to be
- 13:50at a time that was,
- 13:52that seemed pretty damn cool.
- 13:55Um,
- 13:57yeah but i think gwen lends itself to
- 14:00be a cheering workout and you can't do
- 14:03six gwen's right my wife said uh a
- 14:07couple different times that's the probably
- 14:10one of the best events she's ever seen
- 14:12right but you you can't recreate that over
- 14:16and over again so you need something
- 14:17that's more yeah yeah i get i get
- 14:21what you're saying for sure um
- 14:23There were some decent races going on.
- 14:25Fourteen point seven had some good races
- 14:27going on that I got to see,
- 14:28you know,
- 14:31be a little bit of a part of
- 14:34the commute, had some pretty decent races.
- 14:38I mean,
- 14:38there was there was some stuff going on.
- 14:40You know,
- 14:41Some of the age groups were a little
- 14:42bit more lopsided than the other ones,
- 14:44obviously.
- 14:47I'm not taking anything away from Magic
- 14:49City or the events or anything.
- 14:51I thought it was well-programmed.
- 14:53I thought if I were in person,
- 14:55it would be awesome.
- 14:57But you hit a fatigue level as a
- 15:00spectator when you have fourteen divisions
- 15:04with multiple heats.
- 15:07I mean,
- 15:08that's the nature of the beast at this
- 15:09point.
- 15:10That's why I'm saying maybe we reduce down
- 15:13the number,
- 15:13the age divisions that move into an
- 15:16in-person semifinal until we can figure
- 15:19out a better way.
- 15:24Thinking about that and trying to come
- 15:25over off the top of my head,
- 15:26I don't know how much of a different
- 15:29way you'd have to go about doing it
- 15:30aside from having a completely separate
- 15:32event or having to have another floor.
- 15:39You know what I'm saying?
- 15:40Because what they did over the weekend
- 15:43was, if I'm in heat, eleven.
- 15:48Heat eleven, half of us were forty-five,
- 15:50forty-nine.
- 15:51Half of us were fifty, fifty-five.
- 15:52That is one critique I have.
- 15:53I hated that.
- 15:56Well,
- 15:57I think that was a logistics thing to
- 15:58keep everybody rolling on through.
- 16:03But when it's mixed for three heats,
- 16:05why is it mixed?
- 16:06You could have full heats of each age
- 16:09group.
- 16:10I really don't know.
- 16:11It was just confusing.
- 16:12Yeah, it can be.
- 16:15It made it really hard to watch at
- 16:17home.
- 16:18And I don't know.
- 16:23I want to get to some other things.
- 16:25And I talked about it a lot last
- 16:27night.
- 16:28And I see Vicki saying, I hear you,
- 16:30but the live events was their choice,
- 16:32wasn't it?
- 16:33Live events was their choice,
- 16:35but I don't think you need forty two
- 16:37people in every age group.
- 16:39And I don't think you especially when the
- 16:42invites were going to number three hundred
- 16:44ninety two.
- 16:46Right.
- 16:46Like we.
- 16:50And I think what happened is the event
- 16:52organizers, in order to make money,
- 16:54got the money from the athletes.
- 16:57And they needed a set number to make
- 16:59their money back.
- 17:02So there's got to be a solution to
- 17:05this.
- 17:07I'll say this as far as they get
- 17:09their money from guys like me that wanted
- 17:12to go compete in person is that,
- 17:13like I said a couple weeks ago,
- 17:15most of the guys that were signed up
- 17:16were guys that compete against regular at
- 17:19these big in-person events.
- 17:22So, like,
- 17:22they were going to compete one way or
- 17:24another.
- 17:24Now it just means something because if you
- 17:25finish on the podium,
- 17:26you get to go to the games.
- 17:28So the guys that were going to be
- 17:30going to, you know, not this year,
- 17:32but MFC,
- 17:34guys who were going to be going to
- 17:35Legends,
- 17:35the guys that were going to be going
- 17:36to whatever and spending their weekend
- 17:38competing out of state somewhere away from
- 17:41home or whatnot.
- 17:43Yes, they were.
- 17:44Two hundred something down the list.
- 17:45The dude, John Bleich,
- 17:47that almost won my whole division,
- 17:51finished quarterfinals like a hundred and
- 17:54somewhat odd spot.
- 17:56But when you get him in person,
- 17:57he is an entirely different animal.
- 17:59He is unbelievably fit.
- 18:02I have been a big proponent of that.
- 18:04But when you get to three ninety,
- 18:06it becomes a little bit of a joke.
- 18:09I don't disagree.
- 18:11There's a happy here.
- 18:14When you send out invites and that's who
- 18:17responds to your invites,
- 18:18what are you going to do?
- 18:20You can't force the people who are the
- 18:23top fifteen, the top thirty,
- 18:24force them to come compete in person when
- 18:26you're still giving them the option to do
- 18:29it.
- 18:30It's a point telling you something.
- 18:32If people aren't coming,
- 18:34then is this something we should even be
- 18:35doing?
- 18:37If that many people are turning it down,
- 18:41Was it just a vocal minority who wanted
- 18:43these?
- 18:44Is it not organized in a way that
- 18:46makes sense?
- 18:47I've talked to a lot of people.
- 18:48They didn't do it because it was so
- 18:50close to the in-affiliate semi.
- 18:54Yeah,
- 18:54I'm not even in an in-affiliate semi
- 18:55because it's my daughter's softball
- 18:57tournament is this weekend and it's
- 19:00Mother's Day.
- 19:02So people made choices for different
- 19:06reasons.
- 19:08Again,
- 19:09I think it's the nature of what happens
- 19:11in CrossFit is there's a demand,
- 19:14and then there's throw spaghetti at it,
- 19:16and we didn't – it wasn't well thought
- 19:19out.
- 19:20And I'm not talking from the event
- 19:22organizers.
- 19:23Again,
- 19:24they were dealt cards that they had to
- 19:26deal with.
- 19:29Yeah.
- 19:30Why is in-person – or I'm sorry,
- 19:33in affiliate semifinal in the middle of
- 19:35the damn season –
- 19:37Yeah, no, we had,
- 19:39several of us had discussions.
- 19:40How could that be held off until the
- 19:42end of semis?
- 19:44It should have been.
- 19:47Right.
- 19:48Why is my season different than the Elite
- 19:50season?
- 19:51The last chance qualifier for the Elite is
- 19:53the last chance qualifier.
- 19:54Why is in-person, oh, excuse me,
- 19:56in-affiliate, blah, blah, blah,
- 19:57which is essentially the last,
- 19:59or should be,
- 20:00the last chance qualifier for my age group
- 20:04the week after
- 20:06the second in-person semifinal that makes
- 20:10no sense uh shelly says i disagree it
- 20:15doesn't have to be a watchable experience
- 20:17it is a participation experience just like
- 20:20a marathon or high rocks the older age
- 20:22groups paid their registration fee too in
- 20:24the current rules i get what you're saying
- 20:26shelly and i'm cool with that but if
- 20:29you want it to sustain itself and you
- 20:32it takes money to keep it going
- 20:36So either you need to find a rich
- 20:37benefactor who just wants to throw events
- 20:41for participation,
- 20:43or you need to make it a watchable
- 20:45experience where it will attract vendors,
- 20:48ticket sales, and streaming eyes.
- 20:55I think you have a solid point.
- 20:58It's not on...
- 21:00It's not on Bob and Joe.
- 21:01It's not on Micah.
- 21:02It's not on the guys that are running
- 21:03the LATAM, whatever.
- 21:05It's the fact that CrossFit decided that
- 21:06this is what our season was going to
- 21:08look like.
- 21:09Here's your in-person.
- 21:10Here's your in-affiliate semifinal.
- 21:12Well, we already planned out the LSO.
- 21:14Okay, well, it's still this weekend.
- 21:17That's a bad move.
- 21:23Larry says, what are you thinking?
- 21:25What you're thinking is as a spectator,
- 21:27but when you invite a ton of,
- 21:29you make the money off of participation
- 21:31like High Rocks.
- 21:34If that's what you want Masters to be
- 21:36is a participation only that's not
- 21:39streamed and just like High Rocks,
- 21:43then I'll step out of the way.
- 21:45You guys can have your thing and you
- 21:48can become Masters High Rocks.
- 21:54By the way,
- 21:54Larry and Shelley Young are awesome
- 21:56people.
- 22:00I met basically the entire Young family
- 22:01this weekend.
- 22:04John, Larry, and Shelley.
- 22:08Outstanding human beings.
- 22:10They're great.
- 22:11They're great.
- 22:12Just because we disagree on something
- 22:13doesn't mean they're not great.
- 22:15Oh, by the way,
- 22:16while I'm thinking about it,
- 22:17John Young said to tell you specifically
- 22:20that apparently Marissa Flowers can't make
- 22:22it through an entire weekend.
- 22:25In the Masters division?
- 22:27I'm just telling you what the man said.
- 22:30He stopped me yesterday and said,
- 22:32I was talking to him yesterday,
- 22:34right before we headed out, he said, hey,
- 22:37tell Scott, I said, and I said, oh,
- 22:40okay, here we go.
- 22:44Well,
- 22:44we'll see at the games when the best
- 22:46of the best are there.
- 22:47She is.
- 22:48And I love that woman.
- 22:50Like, she is awesome.
- 22:52She is even smaller than I expected her
- 22:54to be when I actually saw her in
- 22:56person.
- 22:57It is insane.
- 22:58When you see how small she is and
- 22:59you see how much weight she can like
- 23:01lunge with over her head.
- 23:03Jennifer was talking about her yesterday.
- 23:05She was like, bro,
- 23:07I need to know how much she weighs.
- 23:08She's listed at one ten.
- 23:10She said there's no way she weighs one
- 23:11hundred and ten pounds.
- 23:12And she was lunging with one hundred forty
- 23:13five overhead like it was nothing.
- 23:17At French Throwdown,
- 23:18it's only a field of ten for all
- 23:19masters groups,
- 23:20and it was very hard to get in.
- 23:22Guarantees a better competition, though,
- 23:23and potentially a more spectacular one.
- 23:27I would agree with that.
- 23:47Um, blah, blah, blah.
- 23:48Lots of the same stuff.
- 23:54Yeah.
- 23:55In older age groups doesn't work.
- 23:58In person is also expensive for some.
- 24:03If the in-person semifinals are not
- 24:06getting the best in the age group,
- 24:07there is a problem.
- 24:10Right.
- 24:10If you're not getting the best in the
- 24:11age groups at these,
- 24:13then just become MFC or become legends
- 24:18offseason.
- 24:24So here's the thing about that.
- 24:26And Mark Phillips put it up there earlier.
- 24:30John, who almost won the whole thing,
- 24:32finished at the quarterfinals.
- 24:37Chris, my very close, dear,
- 24:40homeless-looking friend, who won,
- 24:43finished at the quarterfinals in the
- 24:45hundred and twenty-eighths.
- 24:46He's also already been to the games.
- 24:49He's one hundred percent sure of his win.
- 24:50He was one hundred percent the best guy
- 24:52there all weekend.
- 24:54And in a, I would say,
- 24:57pretty well-balanced test as far as all
- 24:59the events were concerned.
- 25:00So just because he just finished the
- 25:02hundred and twenties in quarterfinals does
- 25:04not mean that he's not the best dude
- 25:05there.
- 25:06And it's not going to go to the
- 25:06games and wreck shop.
- 25:08Like he is going to be a problem
- 25:09when he gets to the games, you know,
- 25:11in our age group.
- 25:13I am, I'm not debating that, that far.
- 25:17I think there's a problem with the online
- 25:19format.
- 25:19I do.
- 25:21I do think there's that there's issues
- 25:23with all this.
- 25:25Larry comes in with Scott,
- 25:27the games was empty to guess.
- 25:29We should cancel them.
- 25:30If people don't start showing up to them,
- 25:33it will be canceled.
- 25:36It's just a fact.
- 25:38Yeah.
- 25:39If nobody watches,
- 25:41it just becomes another master's event and
- 25:44it won't be the games anymore.
- 25:50There's no prestige to it anymore either.
- 25:52A smaller,
- 25:53more exclusive field makes it more
- 25:54desirable.
- 25:55If anyone can get in, not so much.
- 26:04Maybe put in person after on the line
- 26:06to attract more higher level participants
- 26:09and more participants.
- 26:11I would say it needs to be on
- 26:12one side or the other.
- 26:14Smack dab in the middle was a terrible
- 26:16idea.
- 26:22Um, Mark agrees with Shanna.
- 26:25Uh, Hexie lover,
- 26:28just throwing this question out there.
- 26:29If CrossFit spent two million of all the
- 26:32franchisee dues, well,
- 26:35their affiliate dues a year,
- 26:37could it be feasible to create their own
- 26:40filming of all games events?
- 26:43I want to get back into that at
- 26:44this point.
- 26:46We'll see what the new CEO wants to
- 26:47do.
- 26:48Um,
- 26:52I think taking affiliate money and putting
- 26:54it towards the sport is not going to
- 26:57go over well with the affiliates.
- 27:00No, it's a bad idea.
- 27:10And Shelly doesn't know why this is a
- 27:12topic of conversation.
- 27:13It's a topic of conversation because if
- 27:16something doesn't change,
- 27:18I lose something that I love to watch.
- 27:23It means that much to me.
- 27:26And I know I'm probably in the minority
- 27:29at this point.
- 27:31And even me,
- 27:32who loves this sport and loves a lot
- 27:34of the Masters athlete,
- 27:36it was a tough watch this weekend.
- 27:40It went from eight in the morning until
- 27:43nine at night.
- 27:46Like, my wife has me doing chores.
- 27:56It was eight in the morning till nine
- 27:58Eastern time.
- 28:01Pretty much every day.
- 28:03The broadcast?
- 28:04Yeah.
- 28:07We were out of there by five every
- 28:09day.
- 28:11Six o'clock your time.
- 28:17That's just weird.
- 28:17We were out of there by six,
- 28:19by five.
- 28:21We stayed and watched my friend Anna's
- 28:24last heat show.
- 28:26friday before we went uh yeah before we
- 28:30went grab the burger friday night and i
- 28:35mean it was we were we were still
- 28:37we were back at our airbnb and like
- 28:39it was by eight o'clock um all i'm
- 28:44saying is every person i competed against
- 28:46earned their right to be there there's no
- 28:48kale layman's out there at least in my
- 28:49division shelly i am not saying anything
- 28:52about the athletes
- 28:54you're fighting apples versus oranges.
- 28:59But if you want a sport to survive,
- 29:01you need to have eyeballs on it.
- 29:04If you don't have eyeballs on it,
- 29:06it's not going to survive.
- 29:09It will become a local comp.
- 29:15It just, I have,
- 29:19everybody that was there with the rules
- 29:21that were in place deserve to be there.
- 29:24You got invites based on your finish.
- 29:26You accepted those invites.
- 29:28I love that you had that opportunity.
- 29:32But on a grander scale, if nobody watches,
- 29:36it's going away.
- 29:39Unless the event coordinators keep upping
- 29:42the registration fee and you,
- 29:46the athletes, fund it yourself.
- 29:48And I don't think that's fair either.
- 29:53Everybody complains that Xenon at five
- 29:56hundred dollars is way too expensive.
- 30:00Legends was four twenty to enter.
- 30:05And it's only going to go up.
- 30:16Ken Walter, Shelley,
- 30:17it costs money to put on.
- 30:18There has to be a return on investment.
- 30:22There does.
- 30:26Mark says we're having a fruit fight now.
- 30:28Apples versus oranges.
- 30:34Mark needs to cheer me up.
- 30:35So he bought five Clydesdale media
- 30:37memberships today.
- 30:39You are the man.
- 30:41You are the man.
- 30:48But devil's advocate here, Scott,
- 30:49how can something so boring like disc golf
- 30:51show up on ESPN three?
- 30:54Because people watch it.
- 30:58There's a niche for everything.
- 31:00We put it on and everybody in the
- 31:02community bitches about paying thirty
- 31:04bucks membership to watch it.
- 31:09I'm not dialed into the golf Frisbee golf
- 31:13world.
- 31:14I don't know about the stuff or whatever.
- 31:19So I don't know.
- 31:25Um
- 31:27I can't say enough about Carolyn Prevost.
- 31:30Scott,
- 31:31you do have some quality friends looking
- 31:32at you, Corey.
- 31:35Well, speaking of Corey,
- 31:38how do you feel your weekend went?
- 31:42Oh, I mean, it started off fantastic.
- 31:43It did.
- 31:48So to anybody who...
- 31:50Let me put this out there.
- 31:51If anybody reached out, messaged me,
- 31:54Instagram, text, blah, blah,
- 31:56and I did not respond,
- 31:57I'm going to take this opportunity to just
- 31:58let you know my phone was on Do
- 32:00Not Disturb all weekend long.
- 32:01I did not get on Instagram.
- 32:02I did not get on Facebook.
- 32:04I did not get on anything at all
- 32:05because I was trying to be as locked
- 32:08in, focused, present, in the moment,
- 32:10whatever you want to call it,
- 32:11the entire weekend.
- 32:12I would check my phone every once in
- 32:15a while on base.
- 32:15You just...
- 32:17swipe through stuff like there's only a
- 32:18couple of people i was even allowing to
- 32:20get through the do not disturb well um
- 32:24but after looking back at it like the
- 32:26amount of you know support messages i had
- 32:29was absolutely it was overwhelming um so
- 32:33thank everyone for that uh first and
- 32:37foremost
- 32:41If you could have seen my first event,
- 32:46everybody takes out on the run.
- 32:50Three, two, one, go.
- 32:52I tell you,
- 32:52everybody took out on the run.
- 32:54We had to run around the track.
- 32:57They were getting it.
- 33:00I was plodding along,
- 33:01just minding my own business.
- 33:05Not a big deal.
- 33:07Then
- 33:08after the second round i just started
- 33:11passing people like left and right because
- 33:15it's very very easy and everybody i said
- 33:17everybody did it yeah uh mr kyle's in
- 33:19crossfit i met him this weekend too
- 33:21fantastic human being uh and everybody
- 33:26everybody took off and i just i was
- 33:29dead last on the run on the first
- 33:30run
- 33:31And then I wasn't dead last.
- 33:33And then I wasn't close to being last.
- 33:35And in the very last, the last set,
- 33:38the last heat, the last round, excuse me,
- 33:42it was just me and Alvin.
- 33:44And I was right on his heels.
- 33:47And he had broke every other round.
- 33:50He was right next to me.
- 33:52He had broke every other round.
- 33:54And I didn't.
- 33:55I went unbroken on the first three rounds.
- 33:57And I figured he would break.
- 34:00and what i would if i could my
- 34:02cycle speed was a little bit faster than
- 34:04his and the bastard did not he went
- 34:07unbroken on the last round and i did
- 34:09i had to i dropped it at sixteen
- 34:11picked up did my last nine took second
- 34:12in that one so i was pretty pretty
- 34:14happy about that uh and then got to
- 34:21and like you know cool second second my
- 34:24heat whatever like trying to not let it
- 34:28made me feel some type of way, right?
- 34:32Get to Nate that I was super excited
- 34:34about.
- 34:34One of the ones I had circled on
- 34:35my calendar, right?
- 34:36Because Nate is the workout that we do
- 34:38when we don't know which workout we want
- 34:41to do.
- 34:43In the first two rounds,
- 34:45the first two rounds went fantastic,
- 34:47like right on schedule,
- 34:49moving right along and whatnot.
- 34:50And the third round,
- 34:53first two ring muscle-ups were fine.
- 34:54And on the third one, my hand just...
- 34:58i found the chalk that was on the
- 34:59ring um first of all they were brand
- 35:02spanking new rings all of them the whole
- 35:06the whole set brand new rings so like
- 35:08when we got there thursday to check in
- 35:10went look at the floor would not jumped
- 35:12up on it and grabbed it all turns
- 35:13like oh they were slick slick plus chalk
- 35:18plus frog grips is not usually a very
- 35:21winning combination
- 35:23And I had brought a wet rag with
- 35:24me to try to,
- 35:25cause we had two minutes and I was
- 35:27going to, if I needed to,
- 35:28I was going to wipe them down,
- 35:29like get the chalk off of them before
- 35:30we started.
- 35:31Well,
- 35:31I jumped up there and grabbed the whole
- 35:32tone and I said, Oh no,
- 35:34they feel fine.
- 35:35It's a bad idea.
- 35:36Bad, bad idea.
- 35:39So as soon as that happened, came down,
- 35:42took a breath, went back up,
- 35:44finished that one, finished that round,
- 35:46came back in and in round four,
- 35:48just went.
- 35:50right to hell it was it was absolutely
- 35:52terrible at one point and i'm doing three
- 35:55singles for my fourth round at one point
- 35:57i looked at my judge and i said
- 35:58i promise you i am way better at
- 36:00this than i'm showing you right now like
- 36:02i was laughing because it was silly um
- 36:05brand new rings brand new straps and a
- 36:07couple of anybody else in there will tell
- 36:10you um my the lane i was in
- 36:14for that one was lane three there's a
- 36:17couple other ones where
- 36:20At one point I looked up,
- 36:21this ring was like this,
- 36:22like it was supposed to be.
- 36:23And this one was turned sideways and it
- 36:26wouldn't unravel.
- 36:28So now instead of just jumping out and
- 36:30going like this,
- 36:32now you're trying to jump up and like
- 36:33turn that hand and catch this one to
- 36:35kind of get it back.
- 36:38that on top of more straps that i'm
- 36:40used to and like it just completely i
- 36:42let it throw me off my game um
- 36:45and just completely pointed that one into
- 36:47a stand and that one that's i should
- 36:49have had a top five top seven at
- 36:50least on that on that one got off
- 36:54i was
- 36:56simultaneously mad and you know kind of
- 37:02laughing at myself a little bit mostly mad
- 37:05um but set a timer on my watch
- 37:07uh went and sat down and didn't talk
- 37:13to anybody for ten minutes and just kind
- 37:15of you know let it wash over me
- 37:19i gave myself ten minutes to process it
- 37:22whatever and then ain't nothing to do
- 37:24about it it's over with move on get
- 37:25on to the next one
- 37:28That was the next morning was the commute.
- 37:33It was in the afternoon, actually.
- 37:36So the first one was the, oh, yeah,
- 37:38the rope climb, double under, blah, blah,
- 37:42blah, whatever.
- 37:43Sandbags lunge.
- 37:46That one,
- 37:47I was kind of feeling the road about
- 37:49before we ever started because I'm not a
- 37:51super fast rope climber.
- 37:52Five foot six.
- 37:53It's a whole lot of pools when you
- 37:55get all the way to the top.
- 37:56And I'll probably overpace the rope from
- 38:00the get-go.
- 38:01Like double owners are fine.
- 38:02Not a big deal.
- 38:03Definitely overpace the rope climbs from
- 38:06the beginning.
- 38:07I should have trusted my abilities more.
- 38:10It is what it is.
- 38:11I saw my TV screen for a brief
- 38:15moment during that event.
- 38:19When you start, grab the sip of water.
- 38:22Grab the sip of water.
- 38:24Grab the chalk.
- 38:26Yep.
- 38:27Yep.
- 38:28It's like we said with Jamie last week,
- 38:30stop doing your shit.
- 38:32Yep.
- 38:34Uh, and then, so the,
- 38:36I grabbed the sandbag and like,
- 38:38this is where I'm gonna make my money,
- 38:39right?
- 38:39Sandbag lunges, anything on a sandbag.
- 38:41I am usually pretty damn good at.
- 38:43Oh,
- 38:43a hundred fifty feet with a hundred pound.
- 38:45No big deal.
- 38:47The giant barbell voodoo sticker that's on
- 38:49the floor.
- 38:52It just as soon have been made out
- 38:53of grease and ice.
- 38:55Because as soon as my foot hit it,
- 38:58I hit and it slid.
- 39:02Not a whole lot,
- 39:02but just enough to get your attention.
- 39:04Dude,
- 39:05it was super slippery and scared the
- 39:07ever-living shit out of me.
- 39:09I have no better way to put it.
- 39:12It shook me because all I could think
- 39:14of was that I have a hundred pound
- 39:16sandbag on my shoulder.
- 39:19If my foot slips all the way out
- 39:20from underneath me,
- 39:21I'm going to blow my hamstring and my
- 39:23weekend's over with.
- 39:25So went, turned around, came back.
- 39:28I looked at my judge as I'm coming
- 39:32back and like going back across the
- 39:33sticker.
- 39:34And I looked and I said, that's slippery.
- 39:37Like, holy smokes.
- 39:39And it's not just me.
- 39:39Like there were stickers all like that all
- 39:41over the floor.
- 39:44That was that that everybody that I talked
- 39:46to about it was like, oh, yeah, no,
- 39:47they were absolutely slippery.
- 39:49Well,
- 39:50let's call it there because I do have
- 39:52some afternoon meetings.
- 39:54That's halfway through the weekend.
- 39:56Yeah.
- 39:56We'll finish up that later this weekend or
- 39:59later this week, not end.
- 40:02Yep.
- 40:03But I just want you to know I'm
- 40:05proud of you.
- 40:05You went out there.
- 40:06You fought like hell.
- 40:07Did everything I could.
- 40:09You got to be on the big stage
- 40:12and.
- 40:14Even though I'm trying to think of
- 40:15solutions to make these things better,
- 40:18it doesn't mean I hate what happened for
- 40:20the Masters athletes.
- 40:21Oh, yeah, dude.
- 40:25Both things can be true.
- 40:27I can like what happened,
- 40:28and I still want it to be better
- 40:30for everyone.
- 40:31Right.
- 40:34But I was super proud of you,
- 40:35even though I was yelling at you.
- 40:37Oh, you were the only one.
- 40:38My wife was there.
- 40:39She did a lot of yelling.
- 40:41I was... My last set of dubs...
- 40:44My last set of dubs, dude.
- 40:45Hold on.
- 40:46I'm like...
- 40:46I told Vicky real quick that Corey looks
- 40:49like he's having afternoon tea with the
- 40:52queen.
- 40:56My very last set of dubs,
- 40:57because I got back to the rope on
- 40:59the third round of that,
- 41:00and I was like, okay,
- 41:01I need to get these fifty,
- 41:02because this is free reps, right?
- 41:03And I'm like,
- 41:05I'm just going to do them unbroken.
- 41:06And I got to thirty,
- 41:07and my body was like, no,
- 41:08you're going to need oxygen before you can
- 41:09actually finish these.
- 41:10And my wife said she was yelling at
- 41:12me, going, you don't need to breathe,
- 41:15you need to move.
- 41:16I was like, fantastic.
- 41:20That's exciting.
- 41:22But yeah, brother, get back to work,
- 41:24and we'll finish this off tomorrow.
- 41:26Yeah, we'll do that.
- 41:27We'll also,
- 41:28I know I talked a lot of stuff
- 41:30about WFP last night,
- 41:31but there were a lot of things that
- 41:33WFP I enjoyed and I liked.
- 41:35We'll touch on that tomorrow and talk
- 41:38about some other stuff.
- 41:41Is this too much for a CrossFit weekend?
- 41:44Having three semifinals and the WFP all in
- 41:49one weekend, was it just too much?
- 41:53Oversaturation.
- 41:56So with that,
- 41:57we'll talk about his bike ride tomorrow,
- 41:59Mark, and we'll get through all that.
