- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome back to the Spire podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Today.
- 0:03Speaker 1: We are five weeks, four weeks after our last one,
- 0:07so it's a bit of a breakup. No idea what
- 0:09we're doing. Yeah, today today we'll be talking about Seek.
- 0:16We all went on seekh a week and a half
- 0:19ago or something like that. It was a week long conference,
- 0:21so two weeks ago, week and a half ago, a
- 0:23week ago. It was a phenomenal experience I think that
- 0:26all of us enjoyed in our different unique ways. And
- 0:29we'll just be talking about what we did and how
- 0:32it affected us and all of these things.
- 0:34Speaker 3: So, and my name's Fulton, and my name is Nick,
- 0:39my name is Michael.
- 0:40Speaker 4: And you're watching the Spire podcast.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Great, and.
- 0:56Speaker 2: We'll start with for the Sake of Seek, we'll read
- 0:59this scripture that.
- 1:00Speaker 4: It is based on. So our whole purpose with this
- 1:03podcast is basically to go on this journey of asking,
- 1:08seeking and knocking. So this is Matthew seven. Ask and
- 1:15it will be given, you, Seek and you will find,
- 1:18Knock and it will be open to you. For everyone
- 1:21who asks receives, he who seeks finds, and to him
- 1:26who knocks it will be opened. Or what man of
- 1:30you if his son asks him for bread, will give
- 1:32him a stone. Or if he asks for a fish,
- 1:36will give him a serpent. If you, then, who are evil,
- 1:39know how to give good gifts to your children, how
- 1:42much more will your father, who is in heaven, give
- 1:45good things to those who ask him. And then another
- 1:53one is seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and
- 1:57all these things shall be yours as well. Okay, So
- 2:02to start us off, what did you guys think about
- 2:05the event? How you feel right now? Emotionally, spiritually, more
- 2:10like a physically.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Thing ordeal, but not like a hard or deal, not
- 2:14a bad or deal.
- 2:15Speaker 3: An experience, that's the word.
- 2:17Speaker 1: It wasn't a singular event that it was five days
- 2:22of hunger.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Okay, okay, okay. I will never use the word event
- 2:26again to describe that.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Okay, I'm being a pedantic, but it was an amazing
- 2:32experience that smart don't understand. I won't be very particular
- 2:38about the things I say.
- 2:39Speaker 4: What is pedantic.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Pedantic is like being pedantic is like being hyper particular
- 2:47about what a word exactly means. That's more semantics. But
- 2:50I'm being pedantic about that, and that makes no sense.
- 2:53I have no idea what I'm talking about I just
- 2:56love the word pedantic. It's it's something along the lines
- 2:58of being really particular about the meaning of your words.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Jordan Peterson, he's pedantic.
- 3:07Speaker 1: But anyway, seek I went last year and there was
- 3:12great talks last year, and there was great talks this year.
- 3:15Completely different experience for some reason. It's just like depending
- 3:19on who you're with and the way you interact with
- 3:21those around you, it's just a completely different experience. And
- 3:26I can get more into that later, I guess, but
- 3:28it was just really enjoyable. I grew in faith, hope,
- 3:32and love, and I'm determined to become a better Catholic
- 3:36through it.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Yeah, i'd say pretty much all the same stuff.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I think. I also went last year. Did you go
- 3:43last year?
- 3:43Speaker 4: No, this is my first.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Years year, so I only hear what you have to
- 3:46say it was your first time experiencing it. But yeah,
- 3:51a very similar experience to the first time for me
- 3:55at least. But I did feel like a lot of
- 3:58the talks this year, more so than last year, kind
- 4:02of spoke to me and like were more impactful for me.
- 4:06I can't recall specific things all the time, but just
- 4:10as a whole super impactful. I do think it has
- 4:13to do with the people you're with, definitely, but I
- 4:16want to hear what you thought about it since it
- 4:18was your first time.
- 4:21Speaker 4: I think what stood out the most was I think
- 4:27really it was being there with friends that I have
- 4:29been close with for a long time, because I think
- 4:33with those events, you can get those talks anywhere, but
- 4:37actually being there in person and seeing someone talk and
- 4:41being around a bunch of people that all cheer and
- 4:43say yes to the same things, it sort of it
- 4:46gives you a better perspective on what's real. And it's
- 4:50like you kind of get used to just your community
- 4:52that you're used to and you hear the talks and
- 4:54you know, like the different words people use. But then
- 4:57when you're at an event with a bunch people you've
- 5:00never seen before and everyone is there for the same reason,
- 5:04it's there's a different energy. I think that goes with it.
- 5:08I think there were still talks to me that I
- 5:13was talking about this with friends because I was like,
- 5:15there are some talks and some speakers that don't really
- 5:18do anything for me, not like I'm expecting it to
- 5:20do something for me, and like that kind of a
- 5:22way it right, And I think it's because what was
- 5:29really good about that event is that there was a
- 5:31variety of speakers speaking on different topics, and so I
- 5:35think it's there was something there for everyone on their
- 5:38stage of.
- 5:39Speaker 2: The journey, I guess.
- 5:40Speaker 4: And so there might have been a talk that someone
- 5:44else was like, Wow, that was like exactly what I
- 5:46needed to hear. That was speaking to me in a
- 5:48special way. I was really enjoyed that it was entertaining
- 5:51and engaging, and it was like for me, I couldn't
- 5:54really there was like nothing that was like what I
- 6:01fulton was looking for, I guess, you know. But then
- 6:04there were talks and there were events and times where
- 6:07it was like this was like a Okay, this is
- 6:10exactly what I needed to hear, and I'm around people
- 6:13I know and trust, and it was like really well delivered,
- 6:16really well put together. The concert at the end was
- 6:19super cool. So it was like a really good experience.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Did you see that there was a priest that crowdsurfed.
- 6:28I know miss that I had left before this.
- 6:32Speaker 2: But Power Bowman was the one who started.
- 6:35Speaker 1: In was crowdsurfing, and we got to then they got
- 6:39to preet the CrowdSurf.
- 6:41Speaker 2: You were crowdsurfing people or you guys were crowds.
- 6:44Speaker 3: We weren't crowdsurfing. They're like, well a couple of John
- 6:48but John did, yeah, John Trowsky, John his friend.
- 6:53Speaker 1: John Johnny don't know.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah, different John Seminarium.
- 6:58Speaker 1: No, but you have no idea.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Yes, people were crowdsurfing, and we were the group that
- 7:03would like get them all started.
- 7:05Speaker 2: And so Patrick was the guy who.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Like went to the priest and he was like, hey,
- 7:08can we CrowdSurf you? And then he went all the
- 7:10way across. They were dropping everybody and they didn't drop
- 7:13the priest though.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah, he went so far. It's just like spread eagle,
- 7:17just like floating down. I'm sad I wasn't there for
- 7:21that because concerts are really loud. I left and just
- 7:24walked on Mission weigh and bought a couple of books.
- 7:26That's my personality.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Left You left the concert?
- 7:29Speaker 1: Yes, it was loud and there was like people everywhere.
- 7:31It's like a mashpit. I don't like that. So I
- 7:34just kind of like snuck out, and I don't think
- 7:36anyone noticed I left because it was so packed, so loud.
- 7:40So I had peace and quiet, talked to some people,
- 7:42talked to a cool capucin friar priest guy in mission
- 7:47ray and all that. That's the sort of thing. So
- 7:49first let's talk a bit about like what's the Seek
- 7:53Like it's Catholic conference, but like what do you do there?
- 7:56Like what are the things that happened?
- 7:57Speaker 2: Good?
- 7:57Speaker 4: Yeah, we should do that for all of listeners that
- 8:00would have no idea what that is.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:02Speaker 1: So seekh is a yearly Catholic conference. It started off
- 8:06really small, like twenty five years ago, and it got
- 8:09really big this year with you know, twenty thousand people,
- 8:13twenty thousand Catholics all worshiping God. It's quite a sight
- 8:16to see. But it's basically Monday and Friday a bit
- 8:21different just because this last time you get there in
- 8:23the evening and leave in the morning. But for the
- 8:26actual three main days Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, you get there,
- 8:29you go to Mass and you have say, you're at
- 8:32Mass with twenty thousand people and a bunch of bishops.
- 8:35I've memorized the bishops that were there each day and
- 8:39it's insane, not the people, but the number. I don't know,
- 8:43all the bishops.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I was gonna say, I was like, that is so incredible.
- 8:46Speaker 1: On Monday, Okay, I'm not that for breakfast. Well, I've
- 8:51made notes. So on Monday there were seventeen bishops. On
- 8:56Tuesday there were twenty one. On Wednesday there were twenty eight.
- 9:00One of them was a cardinal, Cardinal Dolan. Thursday there
- 9:05were twenty three, and Friday there were like thirteen or something.
- 9:10So twenty eight bishops on Wednesday, twenty eight bishops. That's
- 9:15a lot of bishops from all over the country and
- 9:18the world. There's a bishop from Ireland there. So anyway,
- 9:21there was Mass in the morning. Then you break up
- 9:24the men and the women and they go to concurrent sessions.
- 9:26They have the keynote to the men and the keynote
- 9:29to the women, and there's already a couple of other
- 9:32things that you can do because that's for the college section.
- 9:37Then lunch and stuff, and then you've got just concurrent sessions.
- 9:42There's each hour, you know, at say two o'clock, there's
- 9:47seven different talks you could decide to go to, ranging
- 9:50of a whole variety of things, and you do that
- 9:53a couple of times in the afternoon, and then there's
- 9:56a huge keynote after dinner, and then you go home
- 9:59or you do the fun stuff that's afterwards. So it's
- 10:02a whole it's not like a retreat. It's a conference.
- 10:05You go pick to do what you want. There's you know,
- 10:09what is it called everything that you can conceive of
- 10:12really to do at a Catholic place.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the important thing to remember because I've
- 10:20heard a lot of people who said they didn't like it,
- 10:24But I think that it's important to remember that it
- 10:26is a conference and it's not a retreat, Like it's
- 10:28not intended to just be like you go there for
- 10:30seven days and it's like silence and you're praying the
- 10:34whole time.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Like.
- 10:35Speaker 3: It is very much a conference kind of experience, and
- 10:39there are definitely spiritual moments and there's a lot of
- 10:41time for that kind of thing. But I've talked to
- 10:45some people who didn't like it for that reason because
- 10:47they were expecting kind of the retreat.
- 10:49Speaker 2: But that's hard to do with twenty five thousand people.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it's crazy. So what was the most impactful part
- 10:57for you guys?
- 10:58Speaker 4: The number one was my senior James Shay. James Shay's
- 11:04talk the first night or Tuesday.
- 11:07Speaker 2: So many people love that.
- 11:08Speaker 4: That was the best talk I've ever heard ever out
- 11:11of any lecture talk that was like amazing.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Why was it particularly good?
- 11:21Speaker 4: Because I think the number one problem is that we
- 11:26don't know what's going on. I think that is at
- 11:29the source of every everything, is that we don't know
- 11:34what is really going on. And so he retells the
- 11:40story and he does it in a very poetic and
- 11:45straightforward and clear way, and I've never seen anything like that,
- 11:50and I think it's it almost has with it a
- 11:54you can feel that there's a power with it. It's
- 11:57not just another talk kind of going into this, Like
- 12:00we listened to the Scott Han talk.
- 12:02Speaker 1: And it was like, yeah, I didn't end up making
- 12:04it to that.
- 12:05Speaker 4: It was okay, Like my dad loves Scott Han, but
- 12:09Scott Han has never really appealed to me because of
- 12:13his style and the way that he presents her what
- 12:15he's talking about. Not that it's inconsequential, but it's just
- 12:18that is not what's hitting my heart at this age.
- 12:22And like me and what I'm trying to figure out
- 12:24with life, but I think what I needed was like
- 12:27the ground layer laid out of like Okay, forget everything,
- 12:32this is exactly what's going on, and you can see
- 12:35any of these videos again, if you go to screplay
- 12:37dot com you can watch these videos. It's the one.
- 12:39It's the weight of our brokenness. But in short summary,
- 12:44he goes over why I guess, well, you guys can
- 12:50maybe help me out with this one.
- 12:52Speaker 2: It's sort of.
- 12:54Speaker 4: He pinpoints where so much of our anxiety and difficulty
- 12:59and pain that we face in life as people is
- 13:02rooted back to the fact that there was a fall
- 13:05and we were destined for a paradise, and we were
- 13:08all destined for communion with God. But when the angels fell,
- 13:12they attacked us and we turned, and then ever since
- 13:18then we've had a deep wound. And the entire story
- 13:21of human salvation is the saving of humanity, which is
- 13:26in a sense, the healing of every wound, and every
- 13:29person who's born into this life bears that mark that wound,
- 13:34and the Christian journey or the journey to fulfillment is
- 13:38really just the journey of healing, experiencing healing from Jesus
- 13:44and being fully united with Him in a relationship.
- 13:47Speaker 2: And that that.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Schism that was caused left this pit in our hearts,
- 13:53and that's the source of everything painful, negative, evil, heartbreaking,
- 14:02it all stems from that, and that the devil is
- 14:05using those wounds to tear us further and further away
- 14:09from the only source that will ever bring love and peace.
- 14:16And the way that he put it was like way
- 14:20more eloquent than that.
- 14:21Speaker 2: And way more in depth. It was amazing, Like he's
- 14:24speaking to you.
- 14:25Speaker 1: He sounds like he's speaking in you, like it's kind
- 14:28of gold and like it's it's just such an emotional speaker.
- 14:35Never trust technology. It fails you each and every time.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Technical difficulties. But we're back.
- 14:43Speaker 4: So anyway you were saying, Monsignor Shay resonates in you.
- 14:47It's not like he's speaking at to you.
- 14:50Speaker 1: And so this is a really good speaker. Like that's
- 14:52talk for me to not speak too much to me
- 14:55because we were talking earlier about like description whatnot. And
- 14:58I'm just like, you know, this makes sense, like what
- 15:00he's sayings like yea, I don't understand that. It didn't
- 15:02really like speak to me emotionally, like it was a
- 15:04good talk, but there would have the talks that spoke
- 15:07to me more.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I think.
- 15:08Speaker 3: So it's really interesting because he gave one of the
- 15:12Men's Talks in twenty twenty two right or twenty twenty three.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Technically, yeah, and that talk didn't.
- 15:20Speaker 3: I kind of just was like, yeah, that was just
- 15:22like a talk.
- 15:22Speaker 2: It was like whatever.
- 15:23Speaker 3: But this year it was insane and I felt it
- 15:28so much.
- 15:29Speaker 2: I think part of the reason all of our stuff
- 15:35the devil's attacking are technical setup right.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Now, that explains it.
- 15:38Speaker 2: There might be some truth to that.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Or Trent Horne talk about that all the time. He
- 15:43was asking people to pray for him because he was
- 15:45having technical difficulties and he felt like the devil was
- 15:47attacking him. The same thing right here, the devil's attacking him.
- 15:52Speaker 2: But what was I saying?
- 15:55Speaker 3: Last year his talk didn't really speak to me at all,
- 15:58and this year it did. I think the big guest thing,
- 16:02uh was because he was talking about all that stuff
- 16:05that you were saying. But then also our generation, so
- 16:09probably seventy five plus percent of the people that were there,
- 16:14Gen Z is like the most depressed, most anxious, most
- 16:19self hating generation ever by essentially every metric that you
- 16:24can measure that by. And when I really like, I
- 16:30was paying attention from the start, but when I really
- 16:33kind of zoned and I was like, this is like
- 16:34I'm gonna pay attention to this talk like extra close
- 16:37was when he was saying he was telling the story,
- 16:43but right as he started, he was kind of saying, like,
- 16:47this is the situation that you're in, so maybe it's
- 16:50not such a crazy response to be kind of sad
- 16:53or to be like, to feel kind of lonely, or to.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Feel kind of anxious.
- 16:57Speaker 3: And he's because I feel like so many people think,
- 17:00especially Christians, like you have this good news at the
- 17:06gospel whatever, you have all that good stuff, and so
- 17:09you expect everything to just be perfect, and when it's not,
- 17:11you kind of freak out.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Well almost as shamed by feeling depressed.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Or yeah, you're ashamed of the negative feelings because you
- 17:18feel like you shouldn't feel them because of what you have,
- 17:20Like you have all this good stuff and you.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Still feel bad and you're like, well why do I
- 17:24feel bad?
- 17:24Speaker 3: And then you don't talk about whatever, and that leads
- 17:26into a whole other group of things. But I think
- 17:29it was really speaking to me like the fact that
- 17:32that's just like you didn't choose that.
- 17:35Speaker 2: It's not your fault.
- 17:36Speaker 3: This is the situation you were put in, so it's
- 17:39like it's okay, And it actually makes a lot of
- 17:42sense to feel that way.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and that leads into.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Why you need this and that whole moment was so
- 17:49cool and he like saith he was like I'm the
- 17:51good Friday Priest and he just stopped and it was
- 17:53just dead silent. That was like one of my favorite
- 17:56moments in any of the talks.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I had the thought that.
- 18:01Speaker 4: If you don't know the bad news, you don't know,
- 18:04like the good news doesn't matter. Almost appreciate it, right,
- 18:09It's like you're supposed to tell everyone the gospel like
- 18:12this is the good news.
- 18:13Speaker 2: It's like what is it good for I?
- 18:18Speaker 4: You know? But I feel like he that's what he did,
- 18:20is he draw drew out, like the bad news is
- 18:23you're being hunted down. Someone is trying to tear everything
- 18:26away from you, and this life is after you. The
- 18:28good news is Jesus is there for a reason. He's
- 18:32like actually real it stood out.
- 18:35Speaker 1: He's just like, oh, but all this depressing stuff and
- 18:38then he's like it's really excited and just like screams up.
- 18:41But Jesus wins and it's like it's true, It's all awesome.
- 18:45And so it was a good talk.
- 18:47Speaker 2: So what talk stood out to you then Nick.
- 18:49Speaker 1: So the talk that stood out to me most was
- 18:52the talk by Father John Ignacious as Roddy. As Roddy,
- 18:57he gave one of the keynotes later on.
- 18:58Speaker 2: He was a soccer player, right.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Yes, no, no, not not the one who gave them
- 19:05me in stock.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Oh not him? Wait not who was that guy? Father?
- 19:09Speaker 1: Something else? There's a lot of priests there, but he
- 19:13gave vocation stock And honestly, it was like I hadn't
- 19:17really intended on going to that talk. I remember saying, like, oh,
- 19:20cool talk about like vocations and what that means. Was like, yeah, sure,
- 19:23that sounds interesting. But then there was a different talk
- 19:25that I just wanted to go to. I was there
- 19:28with a couple of people, but it filled up, and
- 19:31so we split up the group that just wanted to
- 19:33go to that one talk, and then me and two
- 19:35other guys went to this vocation stock with Father Asrati
- 19:38and like it's just amazing, like how eloquent he was
- 19:45with what vocations truly are. And it's not just like
- 19:48a vocation with the priesthood. There's three different types of vocations.
- 19:52You have the universal vocation for everyone, and that is
- 19:55the call to holiness that is the first and foremost
- 19:57vocation of your life. The call to holiness the second vocation.
- 20:03Speaker 2: How would you define holiness?
- 20:06Speaker 1: Can you do a whole podcast episode on that?
- 20:09Speaker 2: In one sentence?
- 20:10Speaker 1: Okay, holiness is being who Christ is to others. It
- 20:18is letting Christ live in you and live through you.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Cool.
- 20:23Speaker 1: So there's that primary vocation. Then the second level of
- 20:27vocation is the print I forget the name. It's in
- 20:31my notes, but I don't want to waste time to
- 20:32grab it. But it's basically what we call the big
- 20:36v vocation, you know, like, oh, the big v vocation.
- 20:38There's two, There's two of these. This is what everyone
- 20:41is called to one of these two things in their life,
- 20:44the married life or the consecrated life.
- 20:47Speaker 2: That's it.
- 20:49Speaker 1: And one big thing that he said that I've never
- 20:51really heard in a vocation talk before is that a
- 20:54single life is not a vocation. It is just who
- 20:58you are in the moment. You're not called to the
- 21:01single life. Note, consecrated life is not just priests, brothers, sisters.
- 21:06There's such a thing as a consecrated single life. But
- 21:09that is something. This level of vocation is you commit
- 21:13yourself for the rest of your life. To a very
- 21:17particular thing, whether or not it be your wife or
- 21:22if you're a woman, your husband, whether not it be
- 21:24as a priest or as a brother or a sister
- 21:26making religious vows. But there's also consecrated single life, and
- 21:30so you can have a consecrated single life, but singlehood
- 21:33just like, oh I'm single, that's my vocation right now.
- 21:35Speaker 2: No, it's not.
- 21:35Speaker 1: It's not your vocation right now. It's who you are
- 21:37right now. Your vocation is what you're being called to.
- 21:41Vocal vocai is the Latin for to call. And then
- 21:44the last level of vocation is the particulars which is
- 21:48if you call to married life. Who simple and he
- 21:54hit did all sorts of other stuff talking about like
- 21:57tips and tricks and like how to imagine it.
- 22:00Speaker 5: But it was just.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Really cool to just hear like what vocations truly are.
- 22:05And if you feel like I could be a priest.
- 22:09There's two last things we're gonna say, Like if I'm
- 22:10gonna I'm kind of want to be priest, but I
- 22:12kind of like really like women, and like not like
- 22:15in a weird lustful way, but just like I like
- 22:18women and it's natural like that that is the natural.
- 22:22So the married life is the natural calling every one
- 22:24of us man, woman, every priest, every sister, every nun,
- 22:30everyone is called naturally to the married life. Married life,
- 22:33that is what our bodies are made for. But there
- 22:36is a supernatural calling for some to forego this natural
- 22:43calling to grow closer to God in a particular way,
- 22:46and that is the consecrated life. So that's the one thing.
- 22:50And then, oh, shoot, I forgot it. The other one
- 22:53was anyway, it's a great talk. It's probably on secreplay
- 22:56dot com by now, so you should watch it. And
- 22:59that was the most pactful talk for me, Michael.
- 23:04Speaker 3: I mean, I honestly think mine was probably the mons one.
- 23:09Speaker 2: But why did you already say that he talked about
- 23:14like that? Okay, okay, okay, I couldn't remember if that
- 23:16was the answer. Yeah. I also though I really like
- 23:21I think it's just because.
- 23:22Speaker 3: I like the way he talks and I like Australian people,
- 23:25but I love Matt Frad. Oh God, it's like impactful
- 23:29and like the emotional sense, but it's just like you
- 23:33just like get fired up just listening to him.
- 23:35Speaker 4: I didn't hear that one.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Which one was that? Was that? God? The university and everything.
- 23:39Speaker 1: It's a really good talk. It's definitely one of my
- 23:41top three from Sikh. I just like him at fred talks,
- 23:44Like the way he gives a talk and the way
- 23:46he presents himself is exactly how I want to do that,
- 23:49Like that's how I want to present myself. He's that
- 23:51like intellectual type that I wanted to be, minus the
- 23:55cussing that he sometimes has.
- 23:56Speaker 3: But he doesn't like if you can, he doesn't. He
- 24:00doesn't like hasteful way.
- 24:01Speaker 1: He doesn't do it distastefully, like it's not a distasteful thing,
- 24:04like oh it actually fits there.
- 24:06Speaker 2: But I just wouldn't do that myself.
- 24:09Speaker 1: But that was a good talk, and he's he's he
- 24:12just really is like make a decision, do act, don't
- 24:16just like live your life.
- 24:19Speaker 2: You know.
- 24:21Speaker 1: That makes no sense.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:22Speaker 3: I think that one was also about because like I
- 24:26always literally always talk about I've been sewing to like
- 24:29the arguments for gotten stuff, and that one was kind
- 24:32of like less focused on the arguments, but it was
- 24:35more like the if you exist as a person, like
- 24:38these are the questions you should be asking and I
- 24:41can't remember all of them. I think it was it
- 24:44was like why.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Are we here? What are we doing well?
- 24:47Speaker 3: Whereas like why is there something instead of nothing?
- 24:50Speaker 2: Why are we here? What should we be doing while
- 24:53we're here? And where are we going? Or something like that.
- 24:55Speaker 1: And his thesis through this was it's like, sure, you
- 24:59can explain things scientifically, but like maybe not sufficiently scientifically,
- 25:04but there are no good arguments against the existence of God.
- 25:11Speaker 3: And they almost came down to like a Pascal's Wager
- 25:14kind of thing. Yeah, I'm not like a huge fan
- 25:16of that, but but he's like, if you.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Can't give me any good reasons against believing in God,
- 25:21then I might as well believe in God.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Yeah, that was my other favorite one. I think it's
- 25:27because I love Australian people so good.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Imagine if he was listening to this podcast right now.
- 25:34Speaker 2: I wanted to.
- 25:35Speaker 3: I just wanted to meet him and just be like
- 25:37I was Frid, we've got a podcast.
- 25:39Speaker 2: He should come on something.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Real big and famous. We've got like ten viewers.
- 25:43Speaker 5: He had what's his name, father Weather on this podcast,
- 25:49Father Wedder who did spirit life for us the last
- 25:52two years and not did it for us, but like
- 25:53was there with us the last two years.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Was just on Pines of a Queens.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I still need to listen to it.
- 25:59Speaker 1: It was hilaris. It was exactly what you expect from
- 26:01fatherway to go around pines of the Quietness, which, yeah,
- 26:05he's an amazing guy. Yeah, it was a great podcast.
- 26:09But so besides the talks, there was something called Mission Weigh,
- 26:13which is this big room full of what's the term booths,
- 26:21booths with religious orders, people who make beautiful artistry, and
- 26:29everything in between and beyond. What did you guys views
- 26:32of Mission Weigh?
- 26:34Speaker 3: I think for me it's a little overwhelming, Honestly, I'm
- 26:37just I've never been the kind of guy who's like
- 26:39super into that. Not overwhelming like a bad sense, just
- 26:44like there's so much to do and so many people
- 26:47that you could talk to that it's like you don't
- 26:49even know like where to go or who to talk
- 26:51to kind of thing. So I think it was good
- 26:53to have, like I was always with, like you, Pat
- 26:58Drew Dominic, like not everybody all at wants, but at
- 27:02least like one or two other people, So that was
- 27:04really helpful with that.
- 27:05Speaker 2: But I think.
- 27:05Speaker 3: It it was so cool just being there and just
- 27:09seeing because I think that sometimes you kind.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Of get this like idea that.
- 27:16Speaker 3: At least I know I have in the past that
- 27:18like all Catholics are just these super just like straight
- 27:21laced people who are just like there to have no
- 27:24fun or whatever. And it's really really cool to be
- 27:27in Mission Wagh and there's all the fun stuff and
- 27:29all the booths and everybody's talking and playing pickleball and
- 27:32spikeball and whatever.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Including the nuns. Including when I left the concert to
- 27:38go just walk around Mission way and talk with this
- 27:40Capucian priest. We were just watching just this nun throw
- 27:46a football back and forth between someone and the priest.
- 27:48Is like, isn't she beautiful?
- 27:50Speaker 2: Like she's so strong.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I don't know how she does that, Like that woman,
- 27:52I don't like that is the praise from a priest
- 27:56to a nun of just like acknowledging the true beauty
- 27:59of the human us, And like it was just a
- 28:01cool experience, Like that's the sort of thing that you
- 28:02can get admission to.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Yeah, me and.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Thomas played spike ball with the priest last year, two
- 28:07of them actually, And that's it's so fun just like
- 28:10seeing them because like obviously they have their booths and whatever,
- 28:15but seeing them just do that stuff, it's like, oh,
- 28:18priest is a normal guy too, it's not like they're.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Just but seeing everybody in.
- 28:23Speaker 3: That context for me, like that whole thing is cool
- 28:27and whatever. I don't feel like I explored it as
- 28:30much as I could have, but I feel like that
- 28:34kind of what's the right way to say it, like
- 28:38that heightened my appreciation for the moments that were outside
- 28:42of it in a way, because you see all these
- 28:44people and they're like having fun and they're just like
- 28:47completely normal people, and then you see twenty five thousand
- 28:52people get in the stadium and like, uh, last year,
- 28:56I remember like the most impactful moment for me. It
- 28:59was the first time we were in mass the first
- 29:02day and you just see twenty thousand people all make
- 29:07the Sign of the Cross, all at the same time,
- 29:09and it was just like it was such a big
- 29:11moment for me just seeing all these people who were
- 29:14there to do what we were talking about in the
- 29:16very beginning, which is like seeking, and there's all these
- 29:19people coming together who are asking the same questions and
- 29:22looking for maybe not the exact same thing that you are, but.
- 29:27Speaker 2: I don't know. That whole thing was just so cool
- 29:30and mission away. I think.
- 29:33Speaker 3: It was in a different way, but it was still
- 29:35you see all these people coming together, talking to people,
- 29:39asking questions, looking for things.
- 29:41Speaker 2: I thought it was really cool, but.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Maybe one of you guys explored it more than I could,
- 29:45and you could give a better explanation of what it
- 29:46actually was.
- 29:48Speaker 4: It gives it gives me the same being at those
- 29:51because it was like because the whole thing was it
- 29:56was put on by Focus and Focused does Catholic youth
- 29:59Bible studies at each colleges, at every college where they'll
- 30:03have like a couple missionaries and they'll try to recruit
- 30:07a bunch of the college kids at that campus and
- 30:09then do Bible studies. So then this is like the
- 30:12huge gathering where the focus is getting college kids to
- 30:15come and then adults can go to and so in
- 30:17the mission way there's all these booths that have information
- 30:21about different religious orders or missions or whatever it was
- 30:24and so like. But it was like not a big aisle.
- 30:27Speaker 2: There was like five thous It was just crowded.
- 30:31Speaker 4: I don't know how many people there were.
- 30:33Speaker 1: You should have left the concert because it was so empty.
- 30:35It's still got You should have left concert because it
- 30:39was so empty and you could just talk around and it
- 30:40was quiet and peaceful.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Well, I was in there at one quiet part, which
- 30:46was very nice. It was very it was early in
- 30:47the morning. I forget what was going on, but I
- 30:50got a picture with the Pierre Georgio cut out.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Sweet.
- 30:54Speaker 4: But when it was packed, it gave me the same
- 30:57feeling of being at like a like a you know,
- 31:01when you have a fair or something and there's all
- 31:03these little booths with like little rocks and pictures and stuff.
- 31:08Speaker 2: I really can't pay attention.
- 31:09Speaker 4: There's like so many things going on, I can't really focus,
- 31:12and so you're just kind of like in a daze,
- 31:14it feels like. So we basically just made our round,
- 31:18checked it all out, and then it was like, all right,
- 31:20let's go do something else. But I think to what
- 31:24you're saying about that just getting to see the interactions
- 31:26of all the people.
- 31:27Speaker 2: It's really cool to see.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Religious people mix in with regular people without anybody blinking
- 31:37an eye.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Really. One of the things that you said about.
- 31:42Speaker 4: Your vocation where you are, we're all called to the
- 31:45natural marriage, but if you forego that marriage to jump
- 31:50to the greater marriage, which is us when we get
- 31:52to heaven and in the end with Jesus, there was
- 31:55a theology the body talk about that, and Christopher West
- 31:59was basically he's saying, framed it in this way which
- 32:02I had never thought of before, is that it's the
- 32:06only reason people will talk about the vocation to Holy
- 32:09Orders as being better or higher is strictly because that
- 32:13marriage is better and higher than a human marriage. And
- 32:16so I always thought like, oh, if you get like,
- 32:18if you're a religious it's like higher than marriage and
- 32:20you're better and you know, you did the real hard
- 32:23thing in us. You know, the people down here just
- 32:25kind of suck. But really it's just they're almost like
- 32:29spokespersons for the fact that this marriage isn't the end all,
- 32:33be all marriage, but there is a better marriage. And
- 32:38he said a sacrifice is only as valuable as what's
- 32:42being sacrificed, and so a celibate person is actually pointing
- 32:45to the massive value of human marriage. And so I
- 32:50think having those people around you all the time is
- 32:55super cool. And getting to see like monks walk by
- 32:57in like white.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Robes and.
- 33:00Speaker 1: They were, I don't know what, you over five hundred
- 33:04priests there.
- 33:05Speaker 3: You feel it in the morning when they're all processing
- 33:08in for mass.
- 33:08Speaker 1: That was like a fifteen minute long procession.
- 33:15Speaker 3: I know, I would just like I convinced myself that
- 33:18I was doing it just to pray and focus by
- 33:20close my eyes and kind of like lick down my
- 33:22head and then I look up and I'd be like, oh,
- 33:24my gosh, you're still like, oh.
- 33:26Speaker 1: I see a bishop's hat now, so we're getting close
- 33:28to the end, but then there's still like freaking a
- 33:30thousand bishops.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Yeah, those processions were something else.
- 33:34Speaker 1: They were beautiful.
- 33:35Speaker 4: We didn't go to any of the masses there because
- 33:37we just knew so long we went to the cathedral.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Oh you went, oh okay, yeah cool, Yeah, well you
- 33:46missed out on a lot of bishops. It was quite something.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Probably a lot of people.
- 33:51Speaker 1: There was a lot of people.
- 33:52Speaker 3: Honestly though, like you would think, the only part of
- 33:55it for me that really felt long was the procession. Yeah,
- 33:58because like it's crazy how effectively they like do communion
- 34:02and everything.
- 34:02Speaker 1: They had that down to a pat There were like
- 34:05forty different communion stations, and at each station they had
- 34:10a seminary and because they're just that many seminarians directing
- 34:13people's like you go down here now and then you'll
- 34:15come up doing all of that. They had when the
- 34:19priests received because they all were concelebrating the mass, hundreds
- 34:23of priests. After they con celebrated, then part of the ceremony,
- 34:28part of the thing of it is they ingest Jesus.
- 34:33And so you just see the priests all going up
- 34:35to receive Jesus and then they grab a patent or
- 34:38a seborium and a seminarian just like follow me. And
- 34:41then the priest just has no idea where he's going.
- 34:43I bet you he has no idea, but the seminarians like,
- 34:44we're going over here, and so he just follows. The
- 34:46seminarian plants down and hundreds thousands of people start receiving communion,
- 34:51and it's very quick.
- 34:53Speaker 2: It's very efficient. It was cool interesting.
- 34:56Speaker 1: It was difficult to kneel in those pews that.
- 35:00Speaker 2: For you, that was probably tough. Your feet were touching,
- 35:03for sure. It was so funny though we had this.
- 35:06We had one of our friends with us.
- 35:07Speaker 4: His name was Max, and this was so Dollin got
- 35:12sick like the second day and him and Max and
- 35:16we were there was like ten of us piled in
- 35:18this minivan for the whole thing, and so him and
- 35:20Max were in the trunk the whole time, and Max
- 35:23so ended up getting sick too. And so this was
- 35:25right on the start of when he started getting sick,
- 35:27was Adoration night, and so we're there for adoration, you know,
- 35:31and so like we're.
- 35:31Speaker 2: All kneeling up.
- 35:32Speaker 4: And then he had just like ten fifteen minutes in
- 35:35you like sit down, You're like all right, and then
- 35:37but Max, I noticed like he was kneeling for a
- 35:40little while and then he'd sit down, but he'd always
- 35:42be sitting like this, you know, kind of over hunched
- 35:44over his knees, and he just stayed like that for
- 35:46so long, and I remember thinking, like, his back's gotta
- 35:48be hurting. So I like look behind him, and there's
- 35:50this guy there and he's still kneeling up and he's praying.
- 35:53He's got his hands over the seat, you know. So
- 35:54Max like can't sit back, yeah, and so he's just
- 35:57sitting there and he keeps looking back.
- 35:59Speaker 2: The guy just does not move.
- 36:01Speaker 4: And I was dying because I just saw it in
- 36:03it where you're like, man, you want to sit back,
- 36:05but this guy will not catch the hint.
- 36:08Speaker 2: And so he went too.
- 36:09Speaker 4: Yeah, he stayed kneeling the whole time. So Max is
- 36:12just like bro and he gets out. He's like, what's
- 36:15up with mister iron?
- 36:16Speaker 2: Knees behind it. It's like getting you're saying, dude, sit down.
- 36:20Speaker 3: It was so funny. What did you guys think about
- 36:23the iteration? Actually, I think it's awesome. I think, uh,
- 36:28you know, stuff like that. It's I've never been the
- 36:32kind of person who gets like super emotional just about
- 36:34anything at all. But again, like I was saying, with
- 36:40the Sign of the Cross things, just watching so many
- 36:42people and just experiencing so many people being there just.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Praising God.
- 36:49Speaker 3: Everybody is just kneeling and it's just it's so wild,
- 36:54and you know, obviously it is just an incredible personal
- 36:58experience as well. But I think that this is the
- 37:00biggest thing for me is just seeing everybody, every niche
- 37:04all bow.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Is thou insane?
- 37:08Speaker 1: Yeah, Because for the conference there are twenty thousand people,
- 37:11but on Wednesday there are four thousand more people from
- 37:15Saint Louis Archdiocese four thousand more. So there are twenty
- 37:18four thousand people in that stadium just adoring Jesus doing
- 37:22one thing.
- 37:22Speaker 2: That's so cool.
- 37:24Speaker 1: But for me, like I go to lots like I
- 37:28go to lots of adoration nights and stuff where Jesus
- 37:32is exposed in the monstrans, and most of the time
- 37:34I'm just there just like praying, existing kind of like
- 37:38trying to focus on Jesus and all these things. But
- 37:42for some reason, anytime there's like a massive gathering of
- 37:45people to adore Jesus in the monstrans, it gets me
- 37:49a little more emotional. But I remember we were in
- 37:53like the top views. So at one point I had
- 37:57I left to go to confession. They had a the
- 38:00efficient confession line. It's like four through four hundred priests.
- 38:04It was efficient. I got through it in twenty minutes. Yeah,
- 38:08like there were one hundreds and hundreds of people in
- 38:11front of me, like.
- 38:12Speaker 3: On like Tuesday. Because I didn't think of really get through.
- 38:14I kind of wish I.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Had waited it would be it was more efficient. It
- 38:17was quicker to get through than for any of the
- 38:19other any of the other days because they had four hundred
- 38:22priests and they had it really efficiently to like have
- 38:25people directing, so each priest was basically constantly done. And
- 38:28I talked to the one of the priests later and
- 38:30he's like, yeah, I only listened to like ten people.
- 38:33Crazy because like well, four hundred times, I don't know,
- 38:36eight to ten, four hundred no, no, sorry, four thousand,
- 38:40four thousand people went to confession that night and like
- 38:46in two hours.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that's insane, quite insane.
- 38:50Speaker 1: But I remember when I was walking down, I crossed
- 38:53the center because we were on the opposite side, just
- 38:55were confessional. So I crossed the center, and you know,
- 38:57I passed by Jesus and I knelt down and like
- 39:00prostrated myself before him. And I remember thinking, as I
- 39:03was heading off to confession, you know, I know that
- 39:05they posess with the monstrance. It'd be really cool if
- 39:09if once I got back from confession that, you know,
- 39:13demnstance would just be going right in front of me
- 39:17as soon as I walk in. And that didn't happen.
- 39:20But when I walked in, I thought you were building up.
- 39:24Speaker 3: To be like and then I walked back in, it
- 39:27was just right there.
- 39:28Speaker 1: I to something, but it wasn't exactly how I pictured it.
- 39:32But I walked in and I just crossed over to
- 39:36the center and then I just couldn't go any further
- 39:37because there's just a massive people. But then I saw
- 39:42that the monstrance was coming down and so I knelt
- 39:45and then the constance passes. Oh, it's almost like, oh,
- 39:48it's It was really emotional for me because for some reason,
- 39:51I get really emotional in front of the monstrance when
- 39:53there's a lot of people around. But like, yeah, so
- 39:56it passed there, and then it turned and then it
- 39:59passed behind me, so like I was able to move
- 40:02around to the other side, and it passed me again,
- 40:04and then it went down another aisle where it's a
- 40:06little further and then basically to pass me again, and
- 40:09I was just like down there for like fifteen twenty minutes,
- 40:12just like Jesus come back and forth, He's coming back
- 40:15to me, and like it was just such an impactful
- 40:19thing because I remember last week I had an emotional
- 40:22experience during adoration where I just like really felt like
- 40:27I wanted to just like cast myself fully to the
- 40:31ground in front of in front of him. I could
- 40:33do that because I was surrounded by people in pew,
- 40:35but there was an NPC next to me, so I
- 40:37was able at that time to like hunch down and
- 40:40like completely hide underneath the seat to power for Jesus.
- 40:44But that's experience actually made me want to and from
- 40:48then on I've received communion on my knees because before
- 40:52I I've seen people do that. I'm like, oh, they
- 40:54just wanting to like appear holy because people could see them.
- 40:57But like that experience of me just like I just
- 40:59wanted to just like be nothing before Jesus and just
- 41:02like fully prostrate myself before him. Like it was impactful
- 41:06enough that I'm like, I now understand why it is
- 41:10good to receive on the knees and humility and so
- 41:15like that was just an impactful thing. And and I
- 41:17guess another impactful experience at Secret there's a mini miracle
- 41:20of timing, just the timing can be coming back from communion,
- 41:24not commune from confession was perfect for me to get
- 41:26stuck behind a group of people and not like walk
- 41:29up to my seat and then be like, oh shoot,
- 41:30I missed out, But the people kept me there and
- 41:33then Jesus just kept coming back to me. And man,
- 41:38my shirt was a little wet from like sobbing, just
- 41:41like when I get to really emotional and I started
- 41:43like sweating and it's like disgusting. I'm glad, like.
- 41:47Speaker 2: I wash it. That was the weirdest talk. Oh it was.
- 41:51Speaker 6: I was like, oh, I like get the point, but
- 41:55it's kind of yeah, I don't even know what shirt
- 41:57I was wearing, but it was just I was glad
- 42:00that there was no one like right hunched up next
- 42:02to me because like I'll probably I probably stink, but it's.
- 42:06Speaker 1: Like it was just emotions, just like I just like
- 42:08let everything go. And then for the rest of the adorations,
- 42:10just I just kept my eye focused on the monstrance,
- 42:14which was really far away because once I got back
- 42:16up the seat, it was really far away. But I
- 42:17could just get my eyes focused there, barely blinking because
- 42:21somehow I can do that when I'm just like it's
- 42:23a tunnel vision. It's just like this amazing thing. And
- 42:25then just it just kept cycling in my head, just
- 42:27like you know, to give yourself fully to God is
- 42:31like a lot of times when I'm praying, I'm.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Like, oh, you know what'd be really cool.
- 42:35Speaker 1: It's if I'm praying so holy that I started like levitating,
- 42:38but I don't notice it because you know, I'm humble.
- 42:40I don't notice that I'm levitating and then sees me
- 42:43and just like.
- 42:45Speaker 2: That always happens to me.
- 42:46Speaker 1: But then I just remember being like, did not let
- 42:49me be overcome by feelings of greatness, because that is
- 42:55not who I am. I am not like that great
- 42:57person who will levitate before the ucist, because God is
- 43:01the one who levitates. Jesus is the one who does that.
- 43:03And so just like, do not let me become overwhelmed
- 43:06by thoughts of oh being great or making people see
- 43:09me or know me in this beautiful way. No, just
- 43:13if all I am is right here in front of you, Lord,
- 43:16that is it, and I will be happy, Like this
- 43:19moment is all time because the glory and power of
- 43:23God is so great that this great distance that I had,
- 43:26it was probably like hundreds of feet, like it was
- 43:31hard to like see the Eucharist, but like with how
- 43:35big God is, that distance is nothing. So I remember
- 43:38being like so many people want who like go up
- 43:41really close to the eucharst so they like feel great,
- 43:43But like Jesus is so big that that far away,
- 43:47it's as if he's right there in front of your eyes,
- 43:49you know, even this time, if it's only an hour
- 43:52or two, but like this is forever, like this is
- 43:55all time right now, existing right now, just you and
- 43:57Jesus experiencing this communion of love and adoration.
- 44:03Speaker 2: To say the least.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Was quite a cool night. Yeah, it's awesome. Yeah, it
- 44:07was emotional for a lot of people in different ways.
- 44:09You could hear people, Yeah, that's fun.
- 44:11Speaker 2: You could hear people there is that one guy. Yeah,
- 44:15that was super beautiful. That's really cool.
- 44:18Speaker 1: It's like I've had a couple of experiences in front
- 44:21of you, Christen, and it's like it's just beautiful things,
- 44:24Like you don't need to you don't need to feel
- 44:26an experience because like it's a consolation that Jesus gives
- 44:30you at times and desolations that others where you feel nothing.
- 44:35But it was like it was a gift from him.
- 44:40But it wasn't something like an experience of sheer joy.
- 44:43It was just like almost I was forcing my will
- 44:48to acknowledge him, but I have not I don't have
- 44:51that power. So Jesus was giving me the strength to
- 44:54like focus my will and things kept coming in, distractions coming,
- 44:58and it says.
- 44:59Speaker 2: Blah blah blah.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Oh, it's like all these distractions that happened, but like
- 45:03Jesus gave me the gift to be able to like
- 45:04set it aside and just be with him. And it
- 45:08was a great It was a great time.
- 45:10Speaker 2: That's so cool. I'm gonna clip that.
- 45:17Speaker 1: Yeah, how about you?
- 45:19Speaker 2: You talked a bit about it, What was the question?
- 45:22Speaker 1: How was the adoration? You talked a bit about it,
- 45:24but not about you personally.
- 45:32Speaker 4: I didn't have any crazy experiences.
- 45:35Speaker 1: That's the normal thing that happens. Sometimes I feel like
- 45:40I make stuff up in my mind just it's like.
- 45:42Speaker 4: No, no, I think I don't. I didn't have an
- 45:46experienced that day, but I didn't need one I could
- 45:51tell of Like I just I was just taking it
- 45:55in for what it was. I think I wasn't really
- 45:59I I think it kind of at least from what
- 46:01I've been seeing in like the journey as you're trying
- 46:05to like see what's really going on you, I've had
- 46:08a lot of moments that were like massively wake up,
- 46:12huge wake up calls during spiritual direction or during prayer
- 46:17or something like that. That is like, if you were
- 46:21seeing it from my perspective, it's like, Okay, that's huge.
- 46:26And so then when during adoration, it wasn't so much
- 46:31like it almost felt like I was just at peace,
- 46:34I would say. And so it was an experience where
- 46:37I was like I was it was hard to stay focused.
- 46:40Speaker 2: When there's a lot going on, it's hard to stay focused.
- 46:42Speaker 4: I've noticed, I mean groundbreaking news, but it was hard
- 46:49to stay focused. So I was just kind of like
- 46:51letting myself just be there, I think, you know, and
- 46:59just sort of to look get everything for what it was,
- 47:02to kind of see all of the people, to see
- 47:04the image and to and I had a few moments
- 47:07where I teared up, I think, just sort of going
- 47:13down that path of like wow, this is real. It's
- 47:17it's the feeling that this is real, I think is
- 47:19what stood out to me the most. And that's been
- 47:21a sort of consistent theme in the last few months,
- 47:26because I wouldn't say that I have an ecstatic joy
- 47:30yet or like lasting peace, but I'm it's like I've
- 47:36been getting closer and closer to an experience of things
- 47:39feeling and being real of like this is like this
- 47:43is true, and it's not like this is true but yeah,
- 47:46but this is like kind of you know, it's more
- 47:50like this is true and you're like, oh, wow, this
- 47:52is true. And so I think during adoration it was
- 47:55just a cool It was cool to be there with
- 47:59a group of friends, yeah, and to be there with
- 48:01my girlfriend as well where it's like we're on the
- 48:04same page here, we're all here for the same reason.
- 48:08And it was kind of like I just sort of
- 48:11let myself be there instead of think, Okay, I've got
- 48:14to get into like this mode of focus, I've got
- 48:16to do this, I've got to have this emotional experience.
- 48:19I need it. It's like I kind of just let
- 48:21it be whatever it was going to be, and it
- 48:26was just like a good experience, Like I just felt there.
- 48:29I felt very present, I felt like myself. I felt
- 48:33like I could just let myself be a little bit
- 48:35distracted and be like, ah, I'm getting distracted again.
- 48:37Speaker 2: It's like okay, why am I here?
- 48:38Speaker 4: You know, and just kind of come back to that
- 48:40slowly and not be so expecting something of myself or
- 48:44expecting something from God to happen.
- 48:47Speaker 2: And it still did in.
- 48:48Speaker 4: Small ways, like in my own heart, things that I
- 48:50know that I've been paying attention to, thoughts that would
- 48:52come up, and then the chance just to sort of
- 48:55pray and be like, Okay, God, I know that you're
- 48:58here because the whole room is calling you to be here,
- 49:03and so it's like I just hope that you hear
- 49:05me now and like that you're with me as I'm
- 49:07going through.
- 49:07Speaker 1: All there gathered in my name, what about twenty thousand.
- 49:11Speaker 2: Two or three times?
- 49:13Speaker 1: Yeah, but no, that like that's a beautiful thing, just
- 49:15like to just be an experience and that that is
- 49:18in itself a great gift. It's like I'm on the interior,
- 49:22like a really emotional person. Some of my closer friends
- 49:25like can understand that while on the outside, I might
- 49:29not appear too emotional because I can, you know, keep
- 49:31those rein. But so adoration lets me slip out of
- 49:36my putting images up, but for other people to just
- 49:40let them just exist and be real. And what you
- 49:43were saying is like to try to not force an
- 49:45emotional experience. I fear that like a ton of people
- 49:48there are just like this is if people like if
- 49:52I make an emotional experience and people will see that,
- 49:54and I'm fearful of like some pride that people might
- 49:57have felt, and I hope that Jesus speak to them
- 50:00through that pride of like I'm gonna be doing that.
- 50:03I'm gonna be very emotional loud, crying, laughing or whatever.
- 50:09Uh so people can see me and it's like I
- 50:11I hope that they were doing it for Jesus and
- 50:13not for themselves. Like at the end, there was this
- 50:17really cool cry of like Viva Cristo rey and I'm like, I,
- 50:22I it's an a powerful impactful thing, you know, Long
- 50:24Live Christ the King. But I'm just fearful that some
- 50:26of those people are like this. I can scream and
- 50:29be loud and let someone hear me, and then then
- 50:31they they can recognize me, and it's like they don't,
- 50:33you know, they don't need to recognize who Jesus does. Like,
- 50:36you're here for Jesus. So if you if you're screaming
- 50:38like long of Christ the King to Jesus and showing
- 50:40that joy, like that's a beautiful thing. But if you're
- 50:44doing it for yourself, I hope that Jesus could speak
- 50:46to you through that.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, that's tricky. That's tricky.
- 50:51Speaker 1: I think. I.
- 50:52Speaker 3: Oh, I was just gonna say what, well you were
- 50:57talking Fulton, what you said about like not needing that
- 51:01kind of experience, that was something could like basically everything
- 51:05you said, Like I was the same way that night,
- 51:08but uh, I didn't really feel like I needed that
- 51:14kind of emotional experience in the moment, but something that
- 51:16was really kind of seeking out to me A lot
- 51:19during adoration especially, was how many people there were around
- 51:24me who probably did and just I found myself And
- 51:30I don't I don't want to say this and be like, oh,
- 51:34look at me, I'm like doing this or whatever, but
- 51:37like I found myself not even really like a lot
- 51:41of times when I'm in an adoration, I kind of tend,
- 51:44like most people kind of tend to be like you
- 51:46bring all your problems, you bring everything to Christ.
- 51:49Speaker 2: It's like, this is Jesus, this is what I want
- 51:52you to fix in my life.
- 51:54Speaker 3: But I feel like in that that night, I really
- 51:58kind of lost sight of my own suffering in a way,
- 52:07and I really felt kind of.
- 52:10Speaker 2: My attention directed towards the you.
- 52:12Speaker 3: Know, nineteen thy nine hundred and ninety nine other people
- 52:15in the room. But that that also kind of gets
- 52:20to what you're saying about like having an emotional experience
- 52:23to like what if that's actually for you or like
- 52:26for a pride for a reason, because you know, I
- 52:30saw so many people.
- 52:32Speaker 2: I mean, I hope it.
- 52:33Speaker 3: Was real, because if it was real, and there were
- 52:36so many people who were so and it was beauty
- 52:38moved that night and that was such an incredible thing
- 52:41to see.
- 52:43Speaker 2: But yeah, I.
- 52:44Speaker 3: Feel like for me it was just I kind of
- 52:47said it already earlier, but just witnessing the way that
- 52:52not expecting something to happen for me, but more observing
- 52:55what was happening for everybody else in a way was
- 52:58really powerful. Yeah, we're probably getting close when you have
- 53:03to go, I got a couple of minutes, but any
- 53:05final before we finish, I've talked to you about it
- 53:08a little bit. I want to know what Fulton did
- 53:10you go to all the guys talks? Yeah, okay, what
- 53:14what's your opinion on the performance? Yeah, this is gonna
- 53:22be weird for people listening who didn't see it.
- 53:25Speaker 2: I still want to know what you thought about them? God?
- 53:32Speaker 4: Well, okay, what was the first night?
- 53:36Speaker 3: The first was the Navy Dude sing? Yeah, God bless you.
- 53:41Speaker 4: As far as talent goes, she did write her own
- 53:45song and perform it in front of twenty thousand people,
- 53:49I'd give it to her.
- 53:51Speaker 2: Yeah. The second one was the Magic Card Trick, right that,
- 53:55It was the magic trick, if you could even call
- 53:57it that. That was the best, really the best.
- 54:03Speaker 1: Seventeen different vests on not just vest but also shirts.
- 54:07It was hilarious.
- 54:08Speaker 4: Yeah, the best the best thing was really funny like
- 54:11that because it's like, in comparison to the card trick,
- 54:15you could.
- 54:16Speaker 2: Have done anything. I was like that.
- 54:18Speaker 3: Because with the card trick, it was like she could
- 54:19have stacked the deck and she gave each person there.
- 54:22Speaker 1: It was a fairly easy cardick. Yeah, but like dude
- 54:26that he started dancing and like this is weird. And
- 54:29then he's like taking off his shirt and like this
- 54:32is double weird. There's just another vest.
- 54:35Speaker 3: It just keeps going, you want, like and then when
- 54:38he got to the last one, it's like the gold
- 54:39one or whatever, and it's.
- 54:41Speaker 2: Just like the men are screaming.
- 54:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that's why I just I like that because it
- 54:47was just kind of fun to get.
- 54:48Speaker 2: Hyped over something so stupid. It was just like we
- 54:50all knew.
- 54:51Speaker 4: It's like this is awesome, but yeah, no, I mean
- 54:56and then yeah, least and mess must not be said.
- 54:59Speaker 2: Then what was the last the dance off.
- 55:02Speaker 3: With like the guy and I don't remember what the
- 55:05girl they were doing it.
- 55:07Speaker 2: I just saw people dancing.
- 55:08Speaker 3: It wasn't memorable at all, but the guys did umbrella
- 55:11and that was funny.
- 55:13Speaker 4: What talk was that.
- 55:15Speaker 1: On Thursday the men's talks. Right before the men's talk,
- 55:19there was a.
- 55:19Speaker 2: Dance right for the men's talk. What was men's talk
- 55:22on Thursday? It was soccer the soccer I can't remember
- 55:25his name was. I do not remember. Maybe it was
- 55:29late that day. Because it was a good talk and
- 55:31it was a good performance.
- 55:32Speaker 1: You should watch it.
- 55:33Speaker 2: It was good talk. The soccer guy. Yeah, I can't
- 55:37remember what his name was. I was gonna drive me.
- 55:39Speaker 1: He was like becoming a famous soccer player. And then
- 55:42it's like, you know what, I'm a priest now, well
- 55:44not dead, but like I'll become. Yeah, it was a
- 55:49good talk. I don't remember. Master of the men's talks.
- 55:51I took notes on them and there were some really
- 55:53good ones.
- 55:55Speaker 4: So if there was one Sikh talk that you would
- 55:57recommend people watch on seak replayed out com what.
- 56:01Speaker 1: Would be vocation? Like what is God calling you to do?
- 56:04I think that's the name father John Ignacious Azeradi. I
- 56:08hope it's up there now. It hasn't been yet, but
- 56:11they're getting caught up with the videos.
- 56:14Speaker 3: I would definitely say that. I think you said it
- 56:17was the weight of our brokenness. The mon Signior James say,
- 56:20my second, that pretty incredible. I hope I haven't watched
- 56:23it back yet. I was gonna watch it. We're gonna
- 56:25listen to it on the way here. I hope it's
- 56:27as good when you listen to it. It's not going
- 56:29to be, but I hope it's like yeah, in person.
- 56:33Speaker 1: Make the speak as louditde brates in your chest as well.
- 56:36Speaker 2: Wear headphones.
- 56:38Speaker 4: All right, Well, that would conclude our little episode on Seek.
- 56:46We will have discussions on the topics of our further episodes,
- 56:49hopefully getting into more theological or spiritual or physical or
- 56:54intellectual or relational.
- 56:55Speaker 1: Stuff, but or evangelical or evangelical I forgot that one.
- 57:00Speaker 2: That's the biggie.
- 57:03Speaker 4: So if you guys have any ideas, whoever is watching
- 57:06Drew out, Drew h we owe you one T shirt.
- 57:09Speaker 2: Drew Olivia, Pat literally.
- 57:11Speaker 3: All the people who said they have listened all the
- 57:13way through but still don't comment, Well.
- 57:15Speaker 4: So Drew, that's true, and He's like, yeah, I've listened
- 57:18all the way too, but I just haven't commented about
- 57:20the T shirt because I'm like, I don't know if
- 57:21that seems unfair.
- 57:22Speaker 1: And I was like, dude, that I should have given
- 57:25to Tim when he was here. Yeah, I'm an idiot, but.
- 57:30Speaker 3: Drew should still comment. Anybody else should comment. Anybody else
- 57:33that listens all the way through.
- 57:35Speaker 2: What's there?
- 57:35Speaker 3: We have to have a word. What's the word? Because
- 57:37you said like lemons or something.
- 57:38Speaker 2: The last time.
- 57:41Speaker 3: You said, oh oh, it was like as the outro,
- 57:44it's like.
- 57:47Speaker 2: Uh yeah, it was lemons.
- 57:49Speaker 1: Banana.
- 57:50Speaker 4: It's banana this time.
- 57:52Speaker 1: But I love banana.
- 57:53Speaker 2: Salt Lake City. Okay, salt. Comment something about Salt Lake City.
- 57:57Speaker 3: Because that's five is so salt like banana, Salt like banana.
- 58:01There you go, all right, comment salt like banana.
- 58:05Speaker 1: Well, I think we lost the point of what we
- 58:06were talking about.
- 58:07Speaker 2: Probably point Spire brought the pun back. Oh always Okay,
- 58:15Well that's it. And who wants to outrow us in prayer?
- 58:18Speaker 1: I'll outrow us in prayer, Father's Son, Holy Spirit, Amen, Lord,
- 58:23thank you for this time between the three of us
- 58:26and whoever is listening. We pray that what we talked
- 58:30about was impactful to each other and to at least
- 58:32one other person. We pray for all twenty twenty four
- 58:38thousand people that went to seek a couple of weeks ago.
- 58:42That's the experiences they had there, positive or negative or whatever,
- 58:47may lead them closer to You, and that coming back
- 58:51from that experience may change their lives for the better
- 58:55for the rest of their life. And we pray that
- 58:59those who haven't gone to seek may experience the joys
- 59:03of your love and your life and all things. We
