- 1:06Speaker 1: Me Welcome in. It is All Willie Wednesday. Farm Aid
- 1:12Speaker 1: is just around the corner. Glad to have you with us.
- 1:15Speaker 1: We're going to hear from Kentucky football coach Will Stein.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Scott Clendenin is here. We have an entertainment segment with Mallory.
- 1:27Speaker 1: All of that is ahead coming up here today. Within
- 1:33Speaker 1: the last hour, Texas A & M Athletics released the
- 1:37Speaker 1: following statement. I'm quoting, there was a heat-related medical emergency
- 1:43Speaker 1: at practice yesterday. Thanks to the quick response of our
- 1:46Speaker 1: incredible medical staff, we were able to act swiftly and
- 1:52Speaker 1: provide the student athlete with the care he needed. Out
- 1:57Speaker 1: of an abundance of caution, he was transported to a
- 2:00Speaker 1: local hospital for evaluation and has since been released. He
- 2:05Speaker 1: is now back with the program and will be available soon.
- 2:09Speaker 1: This weekend. That is the extent of the news right now.
- 2:14Speaker 1: The LSU Ole Miss rivalry, which continues Saturday night, took
- 2:20Speaker 1: a turn when Tigers star defensive end Prince Will Umanalan
- 2:26Speaker 1: was served with court papers related to the Ole Miss
- 2:31Speaker 1: lawsuit against him. The timing of the action is interesting.
- 2:39Speaker 1: ESPN says Umunna Malan was served in the parking lot
- 2:45Speaker 1: outside of the LSU football facility. LSU officials say they
- 2:51Speaker 1: were generally aware that Ole Miss officials were attempting to
- 2:55Speaker 1: serve him prior to this week. According to court records
- 3:00Speaker 1: at Circuit Court of Lafayette County in Oxford, Umunna Malan
- 3:05Speaker 1: was served with the plaintiff's first set of interrogatories, requests
- 3:10Speaker 1: for production of documents, and for admission. Meanwhile, Louisiana Governor
- 3:16Speaker 1: Jeff Landry called out Athletic Director Keith Carter. Ole Miss
- 3:24Speaker 1: filed breach of contract lawsuit against him and LSU offensive
- 3:28Speaker 1: lineman Devin Harper in July over nearly $ 1 million in
- 3:32Speaker 1: unpaid buyouts. owed after both players followed Lane Kiffin to
- 3:38Speaker 1: Baton Rouge. Ole Miss' legal escalation, of course, comes just
- 3:44Speaker 1: a few days before the game. The process server found
- 3:48Speaker 1: Prince Will in the LSU Football Ops parking lot, Landry posted.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Keith Carter could have saved Ole Miss some money and
- 3:57Speaker 1: waited until Saturday. He'll be easy to find in the
- 4:02Speaker 1: Ole Miss backfield. This is just hilarious. I'm telling you.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Umana Malan leads the FBS with five sacks and six
- 4:16Speaker 1: and a half tackles for loss in two games this season.
- 4:21Speaker 1: The former Rebels pass rusher was among Kiffin and LSU's
- 4:28Speaker 1: biggest portal coups. They're suing Harper and Umana Malan To
- 4:35Speaker 1: recoup a million in unpaid NIL buyouts on three sports reports,
- 4:42Speaker 1: Harper owes Ole Miss $ 407, 000. Umatamele owes $ 590, 000 after both
- 4:44Speaker 1: signed revenue-sharing agreements to remain in Oxford in January before
- 4:47Speaker 1: leaving to go to LSU. The ACC announced 2027 football
- 5:09Speaker 1: conference opponents for every team today as the conference moves
- 5:14Speaker 1: to 16 teams playing a nine-game schedule. In 2027, Clemson
- 5:21Speaker 1: will be the only ACC team playing eight games. Every
- 5:26Speaker 1: ACC team is required to play one Power Four non-conference game.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Annual matchups protected, including Miami, Florida State, Virginia, Virginia Tech,
- 5:38Speaker 1: North Carolina State, North Carolina. Oregon quarterback Dante Moore's stance
- 5:48Speaker 1: has gotten a bit of attention because Cowboys coach Eric
- 5:54Speaker 1: Morris told the CBS Sports Network, that two of his linebackers,
- 6:01Speaker 1: Ethan Weslowski and Tate Romney, who he called sharp kids
- 6:07Speaker 1: and had played a ton of football, found a tell.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Morris said, coaches are always paranoid. We're paranoid about getting
- 6:14Speaker 1: our signals stolen. We're paranoid about whether we're tipping something off,
- 6:18Speaker 1: either the stance of an offensive lineman or how a
- 6:21Speaker 1: quarterback stands. Morris said that the two linebackers found that
- 6:29Speaker 1: Moore's feet are parallel when there's a running play and
- 6:36Speaker 1: they're offset when there's a passing play. Something helped because
- 6:42Speaker 1: Oklahoma beat down Oregon last Saturday. The Athletic has posed
- 6:49Speaker 1: a roster of the 10 highest college football roster budgets.
- 6:56Speaker 1: 10 Alabama, 9 Tennessee, 8 Ole Miss, 7 Notre Dame,
- 7:06Speaker 1: 6 Miami, 5 A & M, estimated to be in
- 7:10Speaker 1: the $ 45 to $ 50 million range. LSU, $ 47 to $ 50 million. Texas,
- 7:12Speaker 1: $ 45 to $ 55 million. Oregon, $ 48 to $ 54 million. And
- 7:16Speaker 1: Ohio State, an estimated $ 49 to $ 54 million. That's what
- 7:29Speaker 1: these rosters apparently are worth this year. Meanwhile, Miami is
- 7:36Speaker 1: returning to Nike for one of the most lucrative deals
- 7:41Speaker 1: in college sports history. Football Scoop reports a 10-year contract
- 7:47Speaker 1: worth more than $ 200 million. Adidas made a counteroffer. but
- 7:55Speaker 1: did not match Nike's terms. Nike's stock has fallen like
- 8:01Speaker 1: a rock in the past couple of years. The Texas
- 8:08Speaker 1: Rangers remain one game behind the Astros in the AL West,
- 8:13Speaker 1: a game and a half back of the wildcard chase.
- 8:17Speaker 1: They will host the Boston Red Sox again tonight. McKenzie
- 8:22Speaker 1: Gore on the mound. Jake Bennett for the Red Sox.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Last night, the Rangers scored four early and hung on
- 8:34Speaker 1: to beat the Red Sox 4-2. Jacob DeGrom had five innings.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Limited the Red Sox to two runs on three hits
- 8:45Speaker 1: with a walk and eight strikeouts. He has struck out
- 8:49Speaker 1: 20 batters in his last two outings. He lasted only
- 8:53Speaker 1: five innings. But Jacob Latz pitched an inning and two-thirds
- 9:00Speaker 1: of relief to notch his 30th save of the season.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Just the second Ranger in the last year. Ten years
- 9:12Speaker 1: to have 30 saves. The Astros remained in front in
- 9:18Speaker 1: the West, beating Michael Wacca and the Royals 4-2 last night.
- 9:24Speaker 1: The Astros had just four base hits. But Jeremy Pena
- 9:31Speaker 1: had two home runs. Your Don Alvarez had a home run.
- 9:37Speaker 5: All four saves.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Astros runs came on the three home runs. The PGA Tour,
- 9:48Speaker 1: according to Bob Herrig, is leaning into a meritocracy narrative
- 9:53Speaker 1: with its 2028 structure. They announced new criteria. an upper
- 10:01Speaker 1: championship series for two years instead of five. The top
- 10:05Speaker 1: 90 players in the point standing will keep their position
- 10:10Speaker 1: for the following year. It's interesting. The tour's keeping eligibility
- 10:17Speaker 1: standards through next year, which means Rory McIlroy, Aaron Rye,
- 10:22Speaker 1: Wyndham Clark, Ryan Fox, the major championship winners are exempted
- 10:28Speaker 1: into the series through 2031. Starting next year, the changes
- 10:35Speaker 1: adjust to just two years. It would normally be five.
- 10:41Speaker 1: And Tiger will have one shot at the championship series
- 10:48Speaker 1: as the all-time career money list earner. Well, he's second
- 10:51Speaker 1: now behind Scottie. That would require him to play 15
- 10:57Speaker 1: times in 2027, which he's not going to do. There
- 11:03Speaker 1: is a stipulation that would allow him to bypass a
- 11:07Speaker 1: 15 tournament minimum based on a medical waiver, but Tiger
- 11:13Speaker 1: would have only one time exemption, and then would need
- 11:18Speaker 1: to earn their way onto the tour two years from now.
- 11:23Speaker 1: That's not going to happen. I don't know about all
- 11:29Speaker 1: the majors stuff. It's a different day. It's a different time.
- 11:36Speaker 1: It's a little bit weird. Tomorrow, high school report. Jason
- 11:43Speaker 1: will be hosting On Friday, Ryan and Caleb will be in.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I will be visiting, as always, with Kurt Bowles and
- 11:54Speaker 1: Tony Catalina on Friday. On Monday, Frank Abrams will join me.
- 12:04Speaker 1: He has written a book called The Slander of Billy
- 12:08Speaker 1: the Kid and the Abrams Tid Types. It is really...
- 12:15Speaker 1: a well-researched book with a otherworldly story. Frank Abrams will
- 12:22Speaker 1: join me Monday. Phone the neighbors, wake the kids. On Tuesday,
- 12:29Speaker 1: Jeff Apter, author of a book called Roy Orbison, King
- 12:35Speaker 1: of Hearts, will join us from down under, across the pond, online. Okay? So, no,
- 12:49Speaker 1: that's not right. I apologize. It will be either Wednesday
- 12:54Speaker 1: or Thursday. We're 15 hours apart. We're having to tape
- 13:00Speaker 1: a Zoom call. I'm scheduled to do that Tuesday evening,
- 13:07Speaker 1: and then we'll figure out whether Jeff will be with
- 13:11Speaker 1: us on Wednesday's show or on Thursday's show of next week, okay?
- 13:15Speaker 1: But again, that's one you need to phone the neighbors
- 13:18Speaker 1: and wake the kids for. Okay, I'm going to take
- 13:22Speaker 1: a break. We're going to hear from Kentucky football coach
- 13:26Speaker 1: Will Stein when we come back after this for ANCO Insurance.
- 13:33Speaker 6: Anco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing
- 13:36Speaker 6: you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise. While
- 13:40Speaker 6: our name has changed, we're still the same local team
- 13:42Speaker 6: you know and trust. Now with even more to offer,
- 13:45Speaker 6: from business insurance to personal protection and employee benefits, we're
- 13:48Speaker 6: still committed to protecting what matters most with the personalized
- 13:52Speaker 6: service you expect. Now with the strength of Hub International
- 13:55Speaker 6: behind us, more resources, more solutions, still your team. Anco Insurance,
- 13:59Speaker 6: a Hub International company, so you're ready for tomorrow.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Activate.
- 14:03Speaker 7: Spend your Aggie football Saturdays starting with.
- 14:06Speaker 8: The game day show, to the game, to the call-in show,
- 14:08Speaker 8: and only on the Sony 1150 AM and 93.7 FM.
- 14:10Speaker 9: You called me country willy.
- 14:26Speaker 3: The night you walked away with the one who promised
- 14:31Speaker 3: you a life of joy.
- 14:37Speaker 1: We're going back a ways with the country Willie. It
- 14:43Speaker 1: is all Willie Wednesday. We thank you for hanging in
- 14:48Speaker 1: with us. Scott Clendenin will be here in 15 or
- 14:52Speaker 1: 20 minutes. We will have some topics, lots of topics
- 14:56Speaker 1: for you on this game weekend. So we got that
- 15:00Speaker 1: going on for us, which is nice. Will Stein is
- 15:06Speaker 1: the very young, very new head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats.
- 15:12Speaker 1: And judging by what we've seen from Oregon so far,
- 15:16Speaker 1: Dan Lanning misses Will Stein. Here he is with his
- 15:22Speaker 1: weekly news conference from Lexington.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Really exceptional practice today. They responded to the call by
- 15:33Speaker 4: me and by these coaches. Practiced with great physicality, toughness,
- 15:39Speaker 4: and put them in a lot of different situations today.
- 15:42Speaker 4: sudden change situations. Put our defense out there up 17-16
- 15:47Speaker 4: in the third quarter. That's the situation that they had.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Put the offense up there down 23-17 in the fourth quarter.
- 15:52Speaker 4: That was the situation they had to go compete. I
- 15:55Speaker 4: thought they handled that. Obviously, we're heading to College Station.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Great college town, elite team. Great head coach, Mike Elko.
- 16:03Speaker 4: Got a ton of respect for him and what he's
- 16:05Speaker 4: done there and throughout his career. It's going to be
- 16:07Speaker 4: an elite atmosphere we've got to be ready for. You know,
- 16:11Speaker 4: it's still about us, our ability to play one snap
- 16:13Speaker 4: at a time for four quarters. That's our mentality going
- 16:16Speaker 4: into this. There's no poor me's, no shoulda, coulda, wouldas.
- 16:19Speaker 4: All right, we got beat in the last game. Now
- 16:21Speaker 4: it's time to turn the page and move on, and
- 16:24Speaker 4: we have to continue to compete and finish.
- 16:26Speaker 5: That's the big thing. Can we finish? But a great
- 16:29Speaker 5: opportunity to head against a really good opponent. So with that,
- 16:31Speaker 5: I'll open it up.
- 16:33Speaker 10: Okay.
- 16:34Speaker 11: Raise your hand, and I'm going to call on you
- 16:35Speaker 11: to say your name and your outlet.
- 16:36Speaker 12: Nick Rogers against Harvard. You mentioned the third down stat.
- 16:40Speaker 12: I think A & M might be 3 of 22
- 16:41Speaker 12: or something along those lines. So what do they do
- 16:44Speaker 12: well on third down defense and what do you have
- 16:46Speaker 12: to do to it?
- 16:47Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I mean, I think A & M, they
- 16:50Speaker 4: obviously have a really good pass rush package and they
- 16:52Speaker 4: have great rushers up front. So they create a lot
- 16:54Speaker 4: of confusion and protection with big overload fronts and bringing
- 16:58Speaker 4: it opposite. They match routes really well, which when you
- 17:01Speaker 4: got really good secondary like they do, they will play
- 17:04Speaker 4: tight man match defense and not give up a lot
- 17:08Speaker 4: of freebies. So they've been good on third downs for
- 17:10Speaker 4: a long time, especially in that scheme. The same things
- 17:12Speaker 4: that we're doing and they're doing, they're probably a little
- 17:16Speaker 4: bit more advanced evolved or more have evolved more than
- 17:20Speaker 4: maybe we have at this point just because they're in
- 17:21Speaker 4: year three or you know of their system but yeah
- 17:25Speaker 4: they've been really good a lot of it's because of
- 17:26Speaker 4: the packages that they bring.
- 17:27Speaker 12: Out obviously we've evolved minor things shouldn't happen.
- 17:35Speaker 5: Yeah, he went every single rep today. Taped it up,
- 17:36Speaker 5: popped out on him like three times. Critical third and one,
- 17:38Speaker 5: he wasn't in there because of that. So that was
- 17:41Speaker 5: unfortunate for us. But yeah, he went every single snap today.
- 17:56Speaker 11: Lee K, Howard, WKYT, well, you said after the game,
- 17:58Speaker 11: something like, sometimes a loss is good or a shock
- 18:01Speaker 11: to your system, so to speak.
- 18:03Speaker 5: They kind of put you into some perspective. Did you
- 18:05Speaker 5: get that feeling from the players? Like, that was kind
- 18:07Speaker 5: of the reaction that they had as well.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, listen, it's... I told them, there's... There's–
- 18:15Speaker 4: what's my saying? When you win, there's enough for everybody,
- 18:18Speaker 4: and when you lose, there's not enough for anybody. So
- 18:21Speaker 4: you beat a team that you're supposed to beat in
- 18:23Speaker 4: week one and look a certain way and have success scoring.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Everybody's happy. You go out there and you don't play
- 18:30Speaker 4: well in the second half and you have, what, 40
- 18:32Speaker 4: yards of offense or whatever it was, really poor effort.
- 18:35Speaker 4: You know, that's when the poor me's can set in.
- 18:38Speaker 4: I've not felt that from my team. I thought they
- 18:40Speaker 4: responded today extremely well. They were looking me in the
- 18:43Speaker 4: eye after the game. They hurt just like I do
- 18:46Speaker 4: because nobody likes to lose. You know, I'm usually not
- 18:49Speaker 4: going to be a great loser in my life because
- 18:52Speaker 4: I want to win every single snap.
- 18:53Speaker 5: But that's the reality that happened.
- 18:55Speaker 4: We got hit by a really good opponent when we
- 18:58Speaker 4: had opportunities to win the game.
- 19:00Speaker 5: So, like I said, we've moved on and we had
- 19:02Speaker 5: a really good practice today.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Jordan Adams, who Joe mentioned in his press conference yesterday night,
- 19:08Speaker 4: pretty much changes the terminology of his defense every single year.
- 19:12Speaker 12: Even with that, how important will Jay be this weekend?
- 19:16Speaker 4: I mean, I think Jay's got a– obviously he does
- 19:19Speaker 4: a great job. Jay's done a great job since he's
- 19:21Speaker 4: gotten here. And, you know, you can only control what
- 19:23Speaker 4: you can. I mean, we've changed terminology every single year
- 19:25Speaker 4: regardless of opponent just because you get signals put on tape,
- 19:29Speaker 4: on TV copies.
- 19:30Speaker 5: You know, you can hear cadence now on TV. So
- 19:34Speaker 5: you've got to be adaptable.
- 19:36Speaker 4: If you're doing the same exact thing every single year,
- 19:38Speaker 4: then you're probably going to get picked up on. But, yeah,
- 19:42Speaker 4: Jay's been a big help, and it's just been a
- 19:43Speaker 4: big help because we're going against– A very, very similar
- 19:47Speaker 4: defense every single day as we're about to see. we'll
- 19:52Speaker 4: talk about we need to get more explosive just how
- 19:56Speaker 4: do you do that you feel like you're not taking
- 19:57Speaker 4: the swings you need to take the passing game is
- 19:59Speaker 4: it tempo related just Yeah.
- 20:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:03Speaker 4: I think too, when, you know, early on you throw
- 20:06Speaker 4: a pick six, right. You get a sack fumble, you know,
- 20:09Speaker 4: I think the natural thought is, all right, we've got
- 20:11Speaker 4: to protect the guy in the pocket. You know, we
- 20:13Speaker 4: were having a little bit of issues on the right
- 20:15Speaker 4: side and protection issues. And so get the ball out
- 20:19Speaker 4: quick is kind of the mentality, being able to run
- 20:21Speaker 4: the ball, keep it away from a really explosive offense
- 20:24Speaker 4: and explosive quarterback. But then you kind of set yourself
- 20:28Speaker 4: back a little bit from those punches like you mentioned.
- 20:30Speaker 4: So there were specific times in the game that I
- 20:34Speaker 4: felt like we could have taken those punches.
- 20:36Speaker 5: And that's not a Joe Sloan problem. That's a me problem.
- 20:39Speaker 4: And so what can I do as the head coach
- 20:41Speaker 4: in those moments to give our players and give our
- 20:44Speaker 4: coaches– that type of confidence to go out there and
- 20:48Speaker 4: swing when we have a chance. And, um, you know,
- 20:51Speaker 4: you saw in like, I think it was a second down,
- 20:53Speaker 4: maybe it was a second and nine backed up. We
- 20:55Speaker 4: threw the flood pass to Willie. Like that was a
- 20:57Speaker 4: good explosive pass on a second down at nine. Um,
- 21:00Speaker 4: So it doesn't always have to be run, run, pass.
- 21:02Speaker 4: It can be pass, run, pass. You know what I'm saying.
- 21:05Speaker 4: So I think it's just about we lost rhythm, and
- 21:08Speaker 4: then it was a little bit of trying to protect
- 21:11Speaker 4: us on offense with our defense playing well, and then
- 21:14Speaker 4: obviously the decision to go forward on the fake punt
- 21:16Speaker 4: really lost momentum pretty quickly after that.
- 21:21Speaker 5: But, yeah, it's a good learning lesson for all of
- 21:23Speaker 5: us that we just got to be aggressive. Jeff?
- 21:26Speaker 6: Probably Jason.
- 21:28Speaker 11: On the trip to the doctor, they didn't reveal anything
- 21:30Speaker 11: from the first half when we moved the ball.
- 21:33Speaker 5: Well, it's the second half for Alabama. Yeah.
- 21:37Speaker 4: I mean, we were really moving on, you know, the
- 21:38Speaker 4: first drive we were moving on really majority of the
- 21:40Speaker 4: first half, we were moving the line of scrimmage.
- 21:42Speaker 5: We were getting six and seven yards of pop on runs.
- 21:46Speaker 4: Um, you know, I think they started to plug some
- 21:48Speaker 4: backers on some of our pin and pull schemes, which
- 21:51Speaker 4: got us on the one, uh, Lance should have just
- 21:53Speaker 4: gone down on the blitzing safety in.
- 21:55Speaker 5: The, in the, in the, um, in the B gap
- 21:59Speaker 5: and we didn't.
- 22:00Speaker 4: And he had the TFL for, for loss, which could
- 22:03Speaker 4: have been a big play. We ran a truck toss
- 22:05Speaker 4: to the field. We just didn't stay sticky on our blocks,
- 22:07Speaker 4: which could have been an explosive to the left side.
- 22:10Speaker 4: So there was just a little things here and there.
- 22:12Speaker 4: I don't think it was a bunch of schematic flaws.
- 22:14Speaker 4: I think it was, you know, some poor technique and fundamentals.
- 22:19Speaker 4: And that's on us. That's on us as coaches to
- 22:23Speaker 4: make sure we get right. Our players played really hard.
- 22:25Speaker 5: You know, they did. They just, we just didn't finish.
- 22:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that was, you know, obviously big for him.
- 22:34Speaker 1: And you're right, he hasn't been out there much and,
- 22:36Speaker 1: you know, got cleared to play last week and felt
- 22:38Speaker 1: like he was, you know, capable to.
- 22:39Speaker 5: Go out there and especially give us some added depth
- 22:41Speaker 5: to that room.
- 22:56Speaker 4: So it was not a knock on Javante based on
- 23:00Speaker 4: his statistics. He played hard, and he had a really
- 23:02Speaker 4: good day to practice today. I think just getting back
- 23:04Speaker 4: in the flow and having a full week of practice
- 23:07Speaker 4: and prep is going to help him moving forward.
- 23:10Speaker 13: Well, anything you can say about Ron Nichols?
- 23:15Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, he was available all week.
- 23:18Speaker 4: He practiced all week, and then really late, In the process,
- 23:23Speaker 4: Friday night, Saturday morning, it was a little bit like
- 23:26Speaker 4: he can go, but we feel like it was best
- 23:29Speaker 4: to not put him out there in those situations.
- 23:32Speaker 5: He went every single rep today. I know that. I
- 23:34Speaker 5: watched it with my own eyes. He was running around
- 23:36Speaker 5: fast and had to hop in his steps. My expectations
- 23:41Speaker 5: is that with that, he's going to play this Saturday.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Obviously, Kenny didn't actually play against Texas A & M
- 23:49Speaker 1: two years ago, but.
- 23:50Speaker 4: For him being down there, seeing the atmosphere, you know,
- 23:52Speaker 4: over 100,000, do you think that will help him as
- 23:55Speaker 4: he gets onto the field on Saturday night?
- 23:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, potentially.
- 23:59Speaker 4: I think what happened this past weekend is going to
- 24:00Speaker 4: help him a lot. I think in the environment that
- 24:03Speaker 4: he just played in, elite atmosphere here in Kroger Field
- 24:06Speaker 4: against a top-10 team that he just saw, one of
- 24:09Speaker 4: the best defenses probably in the country, I think that's
- 24:11Speaker 4: going to help him a lot.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Time on task is huge, especially at.
- 24:15Speaker 4: The quarterback position where you have to have some meaningful
- 24:18Speaker 4: game reps involved. You know, week one was week one.
- 24:21Speaker 4: We did what we're supposed to do. There was a
- 24:22Speaker 4: very clean pocket. But how you operate in muddy pockets,
- 24:26Speaker 4: how do you operate outside the pocket is going to
- 24:28Speaker 4: dictate our success on offense.
- 24:30Speaker 5: So, you know, he did not.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Play his best, but I loved his mindset because he
- 24:36Speaker 4: played every play literally like was.
- 24:38Speaker 5: A one play focus. And that's what I'm proud of
- 24:40Speaker 5: him more than anything.
- 24:43Speaker 4: What happened happened, but I thought he had the right
- 24:45Speaker 4: mindset coming out of the game. He responded correctly today,
- 24:49Speaker 4: and he's got to continue to improve, but he definitely
- 24:53Speaker 4: can play better.
- 24:57Speaker 12: There's so many coachable moments for a quarterback in a game.
- 25:00Speaker 12: You've been coaching him forever. So what's the fine line
- 25:05Speaker 12: of maybe overcoaching specific decision-making when that makes pressure to them?
- 25:09Speaker 10: Okay.
- 25:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:11Speaker 4: I mean, you have to put them in these positions
- 25:13Speaker 4: in practice, you know, like, you know, you have to
- 25:16Speaker 4: throw the ball away in practice. And so we had
- 25:19Speaker 4: a second and 10 and or as a first and
- 25:22Speaker 4: 10 quads motion to the field, a little stick with
- 25:24Speaker 4: a wide cross and pushed up the pocket nicely and
- 25:28Speaker 4: just throw the ball away.
- 25:29Speaker 5: Took a four yard sack for no reason.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Like that is where that's a growth opportunity for him,
- 25:33Speaker 4: even though he's an older guy. first real opportunity trying
- 25:37Speaker 4: to make a play. The right play is to throw
- 25:39Speaker 4: the ball away. It's not to try to do something
- 25:42Speaker 4: outside of the realm of the offense. So that to
- 25:44Speaker 4: me was a great opportunity for him to grow. Um,
- 25:48Speaker 4: The pocket in this league is going to look like that.
- 25:49Speaker 4: You have some freak daddies on the outside that can rush.
- 25:53Speaker 4: You've got to get used to that. That's not going
- 25:57Speaker 4: to change. It's not going to change this week. It's
- 25:59Speaker 4: not going to change the rest of the year. There's
- 26:01Speaker 4: going to be elite edge rushers, elite three techniques that
- 26:04Speaker 4: can go push the pocket. Creating depth in your drop,
- 26:08Speaker 4: being firm on the outside, not getting beat on the outside,
- 26:12Speaker 4: helping in protection too. And, you know, we think about
- 26:15Speaker 4: not just the player, but what can we do as
- 26:17Speaker 4: coaches to help our players?
- 26:18Speaker 5: What schemes can we do? What can we move the pocket?
- 26:21Speaker 4: Can we max pro there's gives and takes to every decision.
- 26:24Speaker 4: When you move the pocket, you cut the half of
- 26:25Speaker 4: the field. When you max pro you lose two receivers.
- 26:29Speaker 4: So there's a lot of different ways that we can
- 26:32Speaker 4: attack it. And that's what we're working on right now.
- 26:34Speaker 1: It's Will Stein, the head coach at, at Kentucky and,
- 26:39Speaker 1: Kenny Menchie was here. They were talking about that two
- 26:43Speaker 1: years ago at Kyle Field as a backup quarterback. So
- 26:50Speaker 1: he got a taste of the atmosphere. C.J. Baxter is
- 26:56Speaker 1: the running back who is a transfer from Texas. And
- 27:01Speaker 1: he was talking about the fact that Baxter has a
- 27:04Speaker 1: thumb injury. Baxter highly coveted running back that has had
- 27:13Speaker 1: all kinds of health issues. Never became at Texas what
- 27:23Speaker 1: they had hoped. Injuries had a lot to do with that.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Baxter is one of those guys you want in your
- 27:33Speaker 1: locker room. 6'1, 230, a big back. But like I said,
- 27:42Speaker 1: just never quite became what Texas wanted. So they traded
- 27:51Speaker 1: him in. They traded Travion Wisner in for Brown and
- 28:00Speaker 1: Hollywood Smothers. Looks like so far a good trade. Smothers
- 28:06Speaker 1: was from North Carolina State, I think. Was really good
- 28:12Speaker 1: against Ohio State. Saturday night. And. And Brown was too.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Although Brown fumbled the first play of the game. Smothers fumbled.
- 28:24Speaker 1: At the goal line. And was very fortunate with such
- 28:30Speaker 1: a pop. And I'm not sure who came up with
- 28:33Speaker 1: the ball. Because there was no way of telling. They
- 28:37Speaker 1: reviewed it. Said the call on the field stood. Which was.
- 28:41Speaker 1: He did not score. And Ohio State did not recover
- 28:45Speaker 1: the fumble. It was just one of those pileups that
- 28:50Speaker 1: there was no camera angle that you could tell on that.
- 28:57Speaker 1: You know, we talked about this yesterday. Only the fourth
- 28:59Speaker 1: time Kentucky and A & M have met. But they
- 29:04Speaker 1: have some deep history. It goes back to the Bear
- 29:06Speaker 1: Bryant days.
- 29:08Speaker 13: And now.
- 29:11Speaker 1: They have a defensive coordinator that was here at Texas
- 29:15Speaker 1: A & M. And if you heard Coach Elko yesterday,
- 29:18Speaker 1: he talked about how paranoid he is with stuff like that,
- 29:22Speaker 1: changing signals and that kind of stuff. Now, Bateman's defense
- 29:32Speaker 1: gave up 45 to Alabama, but I will tell you
- 29:38Speaker 1: not all of that was their fault. They handed the
- 29:42Speaker 1: ball over, too, a couple of times in that game.
- 29:46Speaker 1: We're going to break. We're going to come back. Scott
- 29:51Speaker 1: Clendiden is with us. And I'm told now that we
- 29:57Speaker 1: have a Pinch hitter for Mallory in the second hour.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Lizzie will be in with all of our entertainment news.
- 30:08Speaker 1: So you want to stay tuned for that. Galleria has
- 30:13Speaker 1: been an integral part of the Brazos Valley since 1993.

- 30:30Speaker 1: Galleria has been taking care of people in the, you know,
- 30:36Speaker 1: they're in the relaxation business. Pretty cool business to be in.
- 30:40Speaker 1: And they're really good at it because they have won
- 30:42Speaker 1: best ofs over and over and over. They have two

- 34:15Speaker 1: Welcome back. Thanks for being with us. Glad to have
- 34:17Speaker 1: you here on a Wednesday. Scott Clendiden is in. We've
- 34:23Speaker 1: probably got several topics, but let's start with Major League Baseball.
- 34:30Speaker 11: Why would we start with Major League Baseball?
- 34:31Speaker 1: Well, it looks like we're coming down to the wire here.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Michael Wacca really let me down last night.
- 34:39Speaker 5: Why?
- 34:39Speaker 11: He only gave up three home runs. I know.
- 34:44Speaker 1: And Apparently, my guess is he called Skip Schumacher to
- 34:50Speaker 1: get some ideas on how to pitch Jordan Alvarez.
- 34:53Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 34:54Speaker 1: And Jeremy Pena, for that matter.
- 34:56Speaker 11: Why would he call Scott Schumacher?
- 34:59Speaker 1: Oh, Skip. Skip.
- 35:00Speaker 11: Why would he call Scott Schumacher?
- 35:02Speaker 1: No.
- 35:02Speaker 5: Skip.
- 35:04Speaker 11: Who's Skip Schumacher?
- 35:05Speaker 1: Exactly. Who is Skip Schumacher?
- 35:08Speaker 11: Who is he?
- 35:09Speaker 1: Um.
- 35:11Speaker 11: Is that the Rangers manager?
- 35:13Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 35:13Speaker 11: Well, I didn't know that. I thought his given name
- 35:15Speaker 11: was Scott.
- 35:16Speaker 12: No.
- 35:17Speaker 11: You sure that's not his Christian name?
- 35:19Speaker 1: I have no idea. I don't really care. I really
- 35:22Speaker 1: don't care. That's not what I'm asking about. Uh, still
- 35:27Speaker 1: one game, virtually a two game lead.
- 35:29Speaker 11: Two game.
- 35:30Speaker 5: Yep.
- 35:30Speaker 18: Yep.
- 35:31Speaker 11: Um, Jared Michael Schumacher.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Never saw that one coming.
- 35:38Speaker 5: No.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Again, I don't care. Uh, I'm looking at the two schedules.
- 35:45Speaker 11: He was a Marlins coach?
- 35:47Speaker 1: Yeah, he won there, actually.
- 35:50Speaker 11: And they fired him?
- 35:51Speaker 1: Yes.
- 35:51Speaker 11: Well, that's a Marlins thing to do.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Exactly. That's what the Marlins do. I think he meant,
- 35:59Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't remember all that issue. I'd
- 36:04Speaker 1: be surprised if there was money involved, you know.
- 36:08Speaker 11: No, it says his last salary was like his last
- 36:11Speaker 11: as a player. On the Wikipedia.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Oh, okay. So we don't know.
- 36:15Speaker 11: Yeah, no, we don't know.
- 36:19Speaker 1: So I'm looking at the schedules here.
- 36:22Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Here they are. Okay. There's 11 games left. Mm-hmm. The
- 36:33Speaker 1: Rangers are at home.
- 36:37Speaker 11: Nine.
- 36:38Speaker 5: Eight.
- 36:39Speaker 1: With eight of those.
- 36:40Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 36:41Speaker 5: Okay. Okay.
- 36:43Speaker 1: The Astros have how many?
- 36:48Speaker 11: Six home games.
- 36:49Speaker 1: They have six home games and five on the road.
- 36:52Speaker 10: Yes.
- 36:52Speaker 1: They close with two, which is weird, at Seattle.
- 36:56Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 36:58Speaker 1: And then, no, I guess, yeah, two at Seattle. They
- 37:03Speaker 1: just play two games at Seattle. Yes. And they close
- 37:05Speaker 1: with four at Oakland.
- 37:07Speaker 11: Four at Oakland.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Four at Oakland.
- 37:10Speaker 7: Okay.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Which neither the Rangers nor the– normally you'd say, well,
- 37:15Speaker 1: that's a huge Astros advantage because neither of those teams are.
- 37:18Speaker 1: But when you're playing teams like that, we've seen many
- 37:22Speaker 1: times before, sometimes the team that has everything to play
- 37:29Speaker 1: for is a little bit tight. And the teams that
- 37:31Speaker 1: have nothing to play for have nothing to play for.
- 37:36Speaker 11: Are we going to discuss the Seattle Mariners, speaking of
- 37:38Speaker 11: that topic?
- 37:39Speaker 1: How so?
- 37:41Speaker 11: They have been real bad against the Angels and the
- 37:45Speaker 11: Athletics the last two weeks.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Yeah, they haven't been very good.
- 37:49Speaker 11: They had the easiest schedule remaining in the major leagues
- 37:56Speaker 11: by a long shot.
- 37:58Speaker 1: By virtue of the one loss record of the teams
- 38:00Speaker 1: they were playing.
- 38:01Speaker 11: By virtue of the one loss record of the teams
- 38:03Speaker 11: they were playing.
- 38:03Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 38:04Speaker 11: They had the A's, the Athletics, the Rockies, and some
- 38:10Speaker 11: other bad team in this thing, and the two games
- 38:12Speaker 11: with the Astros.
- 38:14Speaker 13: Okay.
- 38:16Speaker 11: And they keep spitting a bit. I mean, and you're
- 38:23Speaker 11: talking about games like in the eighth and ninth inning
- 38:25Speaker 11: where they're in the extra innings. They're just choking up
- 38:27Speaker 11: leads to the A's and the Athletics.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Well, I mean, they don't have any shot anyway.
- 38:32Speaker 11: If they could have got back.
- 38:34Speaker 1: If, if, if. They're in the West.
- 38:35Speaker 11: No, I'm just saying.
- 38:36Speaker 1: No, I know. They're in the West. They had a shot.
- 38:39Speaker 1: They did have a shot.
- 38:40Speaker 11: Some people were saying they might be the favorites if
- 38:43Speaker 11: you're looking at the schedule because.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Because about three weeks ago... The Astros and the Rangers
- 38:50Speaker 1: were like 11th and 12th. Yep.
- 38:53Speaker 11: And Seattle's remaining streak of the schedule was 30. It
- 38:56Speaker 11: was 30 then. It's 30 now.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:59Speaker 11: So it was like, can you get... You know, can
- 39:01Speaker 11: you force the three-way tie? It was right before they
- 39:04Speaker 11: played the Rangers.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Well, look, the schedule is that the Astros certainly have
- 39:10Speaker 1: the better schedule. The Rangers have to play Boston and Toronto.
- 39:17Speaker 11: The Astros have to play the Braves.
- 39:19Speaker 5: Okay. So?
- 39:22Speaker 11: It's a wash.
- 39:23Speaker 1: It's not a wash. I think the Astros are.
- 39:27Speaker 11: Do you think the Mets are going to stand up?
- 39:29Speaker 1: Because? the Astros are finishing with Seattle and Oakland. I mean,
- 39:36Speaker 1: even though it's on the road, they're finishing with Seattle
- 39:39Speaker 1: and Oakland. The Rangers have Boston and Toronto. They have
- 39:43Speaker 1: the Mets. They have the Twins. Those aren't bad teams
- 39:46Speaker 1: at all. So, besides it's the Rangers... They're.
- 39:51Speaker 11: Going to tie, Chip.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you said that.
- 39:53Speaker 11: I told you that a month ago.
- 39:54Speaker 1: You mean by record.
- 39:55Speaker 11: By record.
- 39:57Speaker 1: 81 and 81.
- 39:57Speaker 11: 81 and 81. They're going to tie.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Perfect 500.
- 40:00Speaker 11: Perfect 500.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Well, what the Rangers need right now is either to win.
- 40:08Speaker 1: So six and five would give the Rangers the perfect
- 40:14Speaker 1: 81 and 81 record.
- 40:14Speaker 10: Right.
- 40:15Speaker 7: Right.
- 40:17Speaker 1: The Astros would be 5-6. Both of those scenarios are
- 40:20Speaker 1: more than plausible that they would finish tied at 81.
- 40:24Speaker 1: So what the Rangers need is for the White Sox
- 40:28Speaker 1: to lose. They're 77-75 right now. They lost today. They're
- 40:32Speaker 1: playing the Guardians, who now lead the division by half
- 40:38Speaker 1: a game. So they've got their own battle going right there, right?
- 40:41Speaker 11: So what is... I did not know they played this afternoon.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Yes, Cleveland won. Cleveland's now 78-75. Chicago is 77-75.
- 40:53Speaker 11: Okay.
- 40:53Speaker 1: So, yeah. One of those teams needs to just make
- 40:58Speaker 1: a big run. It doesn't matter which one at this point. No,
- 41:01Speaker 1: I don't want either of them to make a big run.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Need one team to choke and one team to make
- 41:06Speaker 1: a big run.
- 41:06Speaker 11: I want both of them to choke.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Because of wild card implications?
- 41:09Speaker 11: No, because if... the winner of the West would then
- 41:12Speaker 11: be the second division leader.
- 41:17Speaker 5: Meaning?
- 41:19Speaker 11: Meaning they would get a bye. They wouldn't even play
- 41:21Speaker 11: in the wildcard round.
- 41:24Speaker 1: The division winner.
- 41:25Speaker 11: The division winner.
- 41:26Speaker 1: With the best record.
- 41:27Speaker 11: The second best record. So if the Astros won today,
- 41:32Speaker 11: they would be 77-75 and half a game behind the
- 41:34Speaker 11: Guardians for the.
- 41:40Speaker 1: For the record.
- 41:42Speaker 11: The record.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Best record.
- 41:43Speaker 11: For the division.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Yeah, because the East winner is probably the Rays. They've
- 41:52Speaker 1: got 90 wins.
- 41:52Speaker 11: But the Astros have the season series over both the
- 41:55Speaker 11: White Sox and the Guardians. They would win the tiebreaker
- 41:59Speaker 11: and get a pie. They can be in the West
- 42:01Speaker 11: and get a pie, Chip.
- 42:02Speaker 1: That's crazy talk. Crazy talk. Okay, we need a break.
- 42:07Speaker 1: We're going to come back. The Astros Report is brought
- 42:11Speaker 1: to you by Oscar & Sons and Citizen State Bank.

- 42:45Speaker 11: I'm Adam C.
- 42:46Speaker 19: With your Houston Astros report. The Astros began their three-game
- 42:50Speaker 19: home series with the Royals last night. Details next.
- 42:54Speaker 1: Here's business analyst David Johnson.
- 42:56Speaker 13: Barcodes, you see them everywhere, on every store shelf, every
- 42:59Speaker 13: product you touch. But in business, a barcode isn't just

- 43:07Speaker 13: you call? Texas Barcode Systems. They've been the industry-leading supplier

- 43:22Speaker 19: Local experts, national standards. The Houston Astros opened up their
- 43:26Speaker 19: series with the Kansas City Royals on a high note,
- 43:29Speaker 19: winning by a score of 4-2. Jeremy Pena was lights
- 43:33Speaker 19: out last night, hitting two solo home runs in the
- 43:36Speaker 19: first three innings.
- 43:37Speaker 16: This one's lifted to left.
- 43:39Speaker 11: That's got a chance.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Si, senor!
- 43:45Speaker 19: Pena does it again.
- 43:46Speaker 5: It's 2-0.
- 43:48Speaker 19: The Royals would cut the Astros' lead to 2-1 in
- 43:51Speaker 19: the top of the fifth, but Jordan Alvarez crushed all
- 43:54Speaker 19: hope with a two-run blast in the bottom of the frame.
- 43:58Speaker 19: With a win, the Astros remain one game ahead of
- 44:01Speaker 19: the Texas Rangers for the lead in the AL West.
- 44:04Speaker 19: The Astros will try to clinch the series win tonight
- 44:06Speaker 19: against the Royals. First pitch at 7-10, coverage on the
- 44:10Speaker 19: Space City Home Network. With your Houston Astros report, I'm
- 44:14Speaker 19: Adam C.

- 47:14Speaker 1: purposes only, please no wagering. Brought to you by Zorderman
- 47:18Speaker 1: Flooring and Chad Jones Law. Okay.
- 47:23Speaker 11: So what about the Rangers?
- 47:26Speaker 1: What about them?
- 47:27Speaker 11: Well, why are they winning some games now?
- 47:29Speaker 1: They're playing at home. They won one game. Well, they've
- 47:33Speaker 1: won four out of five or three out of four
- 47:35Speaker 1: or something. I don't know. So they're up to lose
- 47:37Speaker 1: three out of four. I've said all year they're right
- 47:40Speaker 1: out of 500 team. Yeah. Which we've.
- 47:44Speaker 11: Well, their last 10 games are 5-5. There you go.
- 47:47Speaker 5: Beautiful.
- 47:48Speaker 1: That's what they should be. That's what their record says
- 47:51Speaker 1: they are. According to the great Bill Parcell.
- 47:54Speaker 11: They're going to make the playoffs, Chip.
- 47:55Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 47:58Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 48:00Speaker 11: Because I don't think Toronto's going to catch them even
- 48:02Speaker 11: though they're only half a game behind them.
- 48:06Speaker 1: You don't?
- 48:07Speaker 5: No.
- 48:10Speaker 11: Chip, do I have to pump you up again?
- 48:12Speaker 1: Do you remember.
- 48:14Speaker 11: The World Series year when I told you you shouldn't
- 48:16Speaker 11: be giving up?
- 48:18Speaker 1: No, I don't remember that. They won the World Series.
- 48:21Speaker 1: I don't think I ever gave up.
- 48:26Speaker 11: You're a funny man.
- 48:31Speaker 1: You want to do some– let's do Florida State real quick.
- 48:36Speaker 11: Who are they playing this weekend?
- 48:40Speaker 1: Alabama, right?
- 48:41Speaker 5: Where?
- 48:42Speaker 12: Where?
- 48:43Speaker 1: In Tuscaloosa?
- 48:44Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:46Speaker 1: They're going to lose that game.
- 48:47Speaker 11: You think so?
- 48:48Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 48:49Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure they're going to lose it. So, Florida
- 48:55Speaker 1: State fired their AD. Today, Norvell was asked about the
- 48:59Speaker 1: moving trucks in front of his house because there's, you know, video, supposedly, pictures.
- 49:07Speaker 11: You're kidding me.
- 49:08Speaker 1: I'm not kidding you. I'm not kidding you. And he,
- 49:13Speaker 1: I'm telling you, he didn't really answer that. It was
- 49:18Speaker 1: one of those. we're all focused on this team and
- 49:22Speaker 1: this game right now.
- 49:23Speaker 11: Where's his Christmas tree?
- 49:25Speaker 1: Exactly. Hadn't been put up yet.
- 49:29Speaker 11: Okay.
- 49:30Speaker 1: So thought that was interesting. Because, yeah, we've been through
- 49:35Speaker 1: this before at Florida State, have we not?
- 49:37Speaker 7: Yes.
- 49:38Speaker 1: And as it turns out, That was a true picture,
- 49:41Speaker 1: was it not? Yes, it was.
- 49:43Speaker 11: It was not doctored.
- 49:44Speaker 1: It was not doctored.
- 49:45Speaker 11: We had no AI back then.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Correct.
- 49:47Speaker 5: Yes.
- 49:48Speaker 1: So I don't know.
- 49:49Speaker 11: So this was a real picture of.
- 49:51Speaker 1: It was a picture, and he did not really provide...
- 49:55Speaker 1: He didn't say, that's AI-generated, guys. Y'all need to settle down.
- 50:01Speaker 1: I'm not going anywhere. There was none of that. And
- 50:04Speaker 1: you know, the president who fired the AD, his statement,
- 50:08Speaker 1: Richard McCullough... was I really, really like Mike Norvell. That
- 50:18Speaker 1: was his endorsement of the football program. I think he's
- 50:24Speaker 1: a great person.
- 50:25Speaker 11: Are they mad at the ACC that the ACC will
- 50:29Speaker 11: still give them money when they're garbage?
- 50:33Speaker 1: It's who mad?
- 50:34Speaker 11: Florida State.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Why would they be mad?
- 50:37Speaker 11: Because, you know, we're carrying this conference.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Yeah, they're not doing that anymore.
- 50:42Speaker 11: What about in, well, let me ask this as a
- 50:47Speaker 11: South Carolinian Gamecock.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Okay.
- 50:50Speaker 11: Okay. Since all dirt roads in the state run to Clemson,
- 50:55Speaker 11: are they complaining about the money they get from the
- 50:58Speaker 11: ACC now?
- 50:59Speaker 1: Clemson?
- 50:59Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 51:00Speaker 11: Are they too good for the ACC now?
- 51:04Speaker 5: Uh.
- 51:05Speaker 1: Clemson needs to focus on winning some football games.
- 51:09Speaker 11: Florida State and Clemson need to focus on winning football
- 51:12Speaker 11: games and not trying to jump into another conference.
- 51:16Speaker 1: They don't look like either of those teams are capable
- 51:22Speaker 1: of winning a lot of football games this season. They
- 51:26Speaker 1: just don't look like they're capable of doing that.
- 51:30Speaker 11: Who is more likely... Because of the strain in the
- 51:34Speaker 11: budget that firing those two coaches will incur, who would
- 51:40Speaker 11: be more likely to hire Jimbo Fisher out of those
- 51:44Speaker 11: two schools? Because Jimbo can coach for free as far as.
- 51:49Speaker 1: Florida State for sure.
- 51:51Speaker 11: Okay.
- 51:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Yeah, you heard that we want Jimbo Chance during the
- 51:57Speaker 1: SMU game.
- 51:58Speaker 11: Really?
- 51:59Speaker 1: Oh, he was there.
- 52:00Speaker 11: Yes, he was.
- 52:00Speaker 7: Right.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Doing the color and all that. And actually, let me
- 52:04Speaker 1: say this. I thought Jimbo was pretty good.
- 52:07Speaker 11: Yeah, he was.
- 52:08Speaker 1: He slowed down, right?
- 52:11Speaker 11: Considerably. Well, because he didn't have power, there was no speedy,
- 52:17Speaker 11: fast teleprompter.
- 52:18Speaker 1: I thought he was pretty good.
- 52:19Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 52:20Speaker 1: I thought he was a better color analyst than he
- 52:22Speaker 1: was a football coach.
- 52:24Speaker 11: I thought he was really good during the national championship game.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Oh, on the coach cast?
- 52:29Speaker 11: Yes.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Yeah, he was pretty good then, too.
- 52:31Speaker 5: Yes. Yeah.
- 52:33Speaker 1: I mean, the thing about these coaches is, right now,
- 52:37Speaker 1: when they don't have an allegiance, they can say whatever
- 52:40Speaker 1: the heck they want. And when they're getting paid $ 100 million,
- 52:46Speaker 1: they don't have to hold back, right?
- 52:48Speaker 5: No.
- 52:48Speaker 1: They can just say whatever's on their mind. And that
- 52:52Speaker 1: makes for a good color analyst.
- 52:54Speaker 11: Freedom.
- 52:55Speaker 1: Yeah, they got freedom. They're not beholden to anybody or
- 52:58Speaker 1: anything or worried about what they might say. So....
- 53:04Speaker 11: Is it possible?
- 53:07Speaker 1: Is it possible? Am I right about this? Clemson owes
- 53:09Speaker 1: Dabo $ 53 million?
- 53:11Speaker 19: Yes.
- 53:12Speaker 1: Okay. Not saying they wouldn't. LSU paid $ 54 million for
- 53:18Speaker 1: the opportunity to pay Lake Kiffin even more than that.
- 53:21Speaker 5: Right.
- 53:21Speaker 4: Okay.
- 53:23Speaker 11: Norvell's buyout is 46.7.
- 53:27Speaker 1: That's a lot. But they just spent a lot of
- 53:31Speaker 1: money there. That's something that Jimbo said they weren't going
- 53:34Speaker 1: to do. They just finally have upgraded the stadium and
- 53:38Speaker 1: that new facility they have for the players. That's a
- 53:42Speaker 1: lot of money.
- 53:43Speaker 11: There's been three coaches since Jimbo's been there.
- 53:45Speaker 1: I'm just saying. But they finally did it, right? They
- 53:49Speaker 1: finally did all of that.
- 53:51Speaker 11: That he kept asking for?
- 53:53Speaker 1: Yeah, put the money in it. And my point is,
- 53:58Speaker 1: they've spent a lot of money. Can they afford $ 46 million?
- 54:04Speaker 11: If Jimbo wants to coach him, he'll give you a
- 54:06Speaker 11: discount because A & M' s paying him seven and a half.
- 54:09Speaker 1: But I don't think he gets paid if he had
- 54:13Speaker 1: a coaching job. That's not right. He gets all of
- 54:15Speaker 1: it regardless.
- 54:16Speaker 11: It's $ 186 million, I think.
- 54:21Speaker 1: No, it was 75. No, they had to pay half
- 54:25Speaker 1: of it up front and then the other half. I
- 54:28Speaker 1: thought it was way more than that.
- 54:31Speaker 11: Fisher's buyout was $ 77 million.
- 54:35Speaker 1: Oh, he doesn't have nearly as much money as I
- 54:37Speaker 1: thought he did. He's about broke.
- 54:41Speaker 11: $ 19 million due within 60 days.
- 54:44Speaker 1: So he got $ 19 million up front.
- 54:45Speaker 5: Right.
- 54:46Speaker 1: And, you know, that's nasty for tax purposes.
- 54:49Speaker 11: So through 2031, so eight years, he gets $ 7. 5 million
- 54:55Speaker 11: a year.
- 54:56Speaker 12: Okay.
- 54:56Speaker 11: That's what I'm saying. He doesn't—you don't have to break
- 54:59Speaker 11: the bank if he wants to go coach somewhere.
- 55:03Speaker 1: Would you hire him?
- 55:07Speaker 11: Would he be worse than Mike Norvell?
- 55:09Speaker 1: Would you hire him?
- 55:10Speaker 2: Yes.
- 55:11Speaker 15: Okay.
- 55:12Speaker 11: I think he's a better coach than Mike Norvell. I'm
- 55:13Speaker 11: not saying that he's a better coach than Dabo. Dabo
- 55:17Speaker 11: has done this to himself and not recruiting. I think
- 55:20Speaker 11: Jimbo would easily embrace the transfer portal and be good
- 55:27Speaker 11: at that like he was good with being in the
- 55:31Speaker 11: homes of the 17-year-olds anyway. Jim O'Fisher was a really
- 55:36Speaker 11: good recruiter. So I'm not going to sit there and
- 55:40Speaker 11: act like he couldn't, that he couldn't adapt. Nick Saban
- 55:45Speaker 11: might not have wanted to do it. Nick Saban would
- 55:48Speaker 11: have had no trouble adapting to it.
- 55:50Speaker 1: No, no doubt. All right, we need a break. We'll
- 55:53Speaker 1: be back, close out the first hour. David Gardner's is
- 55:56Speaker 1: open right now for another hour until six o'clock. You
- 56:00Speaker 1: need to drop by and check out the new digs
- 56:04Speaker 1: that he and Julia put together over there, the expanded
- 56:08Speaker 1: Rolex area, all of the DG designs under the glass,
- 56:14Speaker 1: under the cases, all of the new gemstones that he
- 56:22Speaker 1: has used to create all the original DG designs, the pendants,
- 56:27Speaker 1: the necklaces, whatever. And people that will help you If
- 56:33Speaker 1: you're not good at stuff like this, when you buy
