- 0:01Most people judge the emotional relationship based on the
- 0:04external vital nature they have built in expectations, many of
- 0:09them conditioned by the social norms within which they are
- 0:12living. Media reinforces the stereotypes
- 0:16of what these emotions are. The ideal of romanticized love,
- 0:21for example, is one that drives much of the social expectation
- 0:26and interaction that takes place in modern Western society.
- 0:30The ideal of family duty and a growing sense of love for
- 0:34spouse, children, and parents is the source of strong emotional
- 0:39bonds in other parts of the world.
- 0:42The vital emotions that arise from these backgrounds are
- 0:45narrow, exclusive and in many cases tinged with a sense of
- 0:50ownership or forms of jealousy and attachment.
- 0:55They tend to create a separation between the inner circle
- 0:59involved in that relationship and everyone else outside.
- 1:05Psychic emotions, including psychic forms of love, are much
- 1:10wider and more inclusive, less attached to specific individuals
- 1:15and less overtly passionate. They encompass not just the
- 1:20immediate relationship, but also a much wider view of the world.
- 1:25Because they do not exhibit the kind of overt expressions that
- 1:29we normally assign to emotions in relationships, we do not
- 1:33interpret them properly. A form of love that does not
- 1:37take on itself any possessiveness, jealousy,
- 1:41extremes such as self harm or when things breakdown.
- 1:45Harm of the other party in the relationship is considered to be
- 1:50devoid of the reality of love, when in fact it may be a deeper,
- 1:55more abiding and more comprehensive form that is
- 1:59simply not being recognized. This is not the same as what is
- 2:04called platonic love, where there is a mental affinity and
- 2:08support structure. Rather it is based on a psychic
- 2:12emotion and a deep connection that has its own rhythm and
- 2:16justification. It is also not the same as that
- 2:20professed love for humanity that does not seem to care about the
- 2:24individuals who make up that humanity.
- 2:28It is in that sense not abstract love, but something far more
- 2:34that encompasses both the whole and the individual parts.
- 2:40The mother observes. Quote.
- 2:42As I said, some people are quite beyond that.
- 2:46They have been able to control it in such a way that it does
- 2:49not get mixed up with anything else.
- 2:52They have in themselves this psychic love which is full of
- 2:55self forgetfulness, self giving, compassion, generosity, nobility
- 3:01of life and is a great power of identification.
- 3:06So most of these people think they are cold or indifferent.
- 3:09They are very nice people, you see, but they do not love, and
- 3:14sometimes they themselves do not know.
- 3:17I have known people who thought they had no love because they
- 3:20didn't have this vital vibration.
- 3:23Usually when people speak of emotions, they are Speaking of
- 3:27vital emotions. But there is another kind of
- 3:30emotion which is of an infinitely higher order and
- 3:33doesn't express itself in the same way, which has just as much
- 3:38intensity, but an intensity that is under control, contained,
- 3:43condensed, concentrated, and is an extraordinary dynamic power.
- 3:51True love can achieve extraordinary things, but it is
- 3:54rare. All kinds of miracles can be
- 3:57done out of love for the person 1 loves, not for everyone, but
- 4:01for the people or the person 1 loves.
- 4:04But it has to be a love free from all vital mixture, an
- 4:08absolutely pure and selfless love which demands nothing in
- 4:13return, which expects nothing in return.
