- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn Italian with Fexingo? Luna: Ciao Lucas! I'm so ready. I loved our duck-feeding sessions last time. Can we go back to the park? Lucas: Absolutely. Today we'll practice a few more phrases with our feathered friends. Let's start with: Le anatre hanno fame. Luna: Le anatre hanno fame. That means 'the ducks are hungry', right? Lucas: Exactly. Le anatre means 'the ducks', hanno is 'they have', fame is 'hunger'. So literally 'the ducks have hunger'. Let's say it together: Le anatre hanno fame. Luna: Le anatre hanno fame. Lucas: Great. Now imagine you see the ducks coming towards you. What do you say? Luna: Le anatre hanno fame! Lucas: Perfect. Now, what do they do? They eat the bread. In Italian: Mangiano il pane. Luna: Mangiano il pane. 'They eat the bread.' Mangiano is 'they eat', pane is 'bread'. Lucas: Yes. Let's practice: Le anatre hanno fame. Mangiano il pane. Luna: Le anatre hanno fame. Mangiano il pane. Lucas: Excellent. Now, what do we do? We give bread to the ducks. In Italian: Diamo il pane alle anatre. Luna: Diamo il pane alle anatre. 'We give the bread to the ducks.' Diamo is 'we give', alle anatre means 'to the ducks'. Lucas: Right. So we have: Le anatre hanno fame. Diamo il pane alle anatre. Mangiano il pane. Luna: Le anatre hanno fame. Diamo il pane alle anatre. Mangiano il pane. Lucas: And after they eat, they are happy. Le anatre sono contente. Luna: Le anatre sono contente. 'The ducks are happy.' Contento means happy, but with anatre it's feminine plural: contente. Lucas: Exactly. So the whole story: Le anatre hanno fame. Diamo il pane alle anatre. Mangiano il pane. Le anatre sono contente. Luna: I love it! Let me try: Le anatre hanno fame. Diamo il pane alle anatre. Mangiano il pane. Le anatre sono contente. Lucas: You nailed it.
