- 0:00Speaker 1: Has anyone ever told you you have a Jesus Look
- 0:03Speaker 1: to you, it's.
- 0:04Speaker 2: One more thing, one more thing.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Before we get to Jesus, which is I hear people
- 0:17Speaker 3: say a lot remember the reason for the season, or
- 0:19Speaker 3: people forget the reason for the season, or whatever, And
- 0:23Speaker 3: in my house, the reason for the season is gift giving.
- 0:25Speaker 3: It's just that's what it is. Gets talking eat, we
- 0:29Speaker 3: give gifts.
- 0:29Speaker 2: And I'm judging you harshly.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I wish, I wish it wasn't that way. I'm in
- 0:33Speaker 3: control of it not being that way. Yet it's not
- 0:35Speaker 3: that way. So I don't even know what to say
- 0:37Speaker 3: about that. But it's not. We're not We don't have
- 0:38Speaker 3: a Jesus Christmas at our house. I had a slightly
- 0:43Speaker 3: more Jesus see Christmas when I was a kid because
- 0:45Speaker 3: we went to Sunday school, so there'd be some sort
- 0:48Speaker 3: of Sunday School pageant, that sort of thing. My oldest
- 0:51Speaker 3: goes to a Christian private school, so they do a
- 0:52Speaker 3: lot of uh, Nativity scenes. Yeah yeah, all kinds of
- 0:57Speaker 3: and the play and all kinds of stuff. So but
- 0:59Speaker 3: just in general, my household is not much but so
- 1:02Speaker 3: because of that, and since it's all gift receiving based
- 1:07Speaker 3: if you're a kid, that's what you're thinking about. I
- 1:10Speaker 3: regularly think about how much when I was a kid,
- 1:14Speaker 3: I anticipated various things, and like, what a waste of
- 1:18Speaker 3: mental energy that is. And I don't know if that's
- 1:21Speaker 3: like a horrible thing, and it's just part of the
- 1:22Speaker 3: human condition. You know, there's no harmonyly that one, but
- 1:28Speaker 3: which one the second one?
- 1:30Speaker 2: It's probably just part of the human condition.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Why looking forward to things so much, even though time
- 1:37Speaker 3: after time after time they don't live up to the hype.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Other than sex, I can't think of anything that's ever
- 1:44Speaker 3: lived up to the anticipation.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Agreed on both counts.
- 1:48Speaker 1: And well, and what's interesting is it works for negative
- 1:52Speaker 1: stuff too. Yeah, yeah, that's true, generally speaking. Generally speaking,
- 1:58Speaker 1: there are exceptions to this. You spend you know, you know,
- 2:03Speaker 1: two weeks brooding about how awful getting your tooth fixed
- 2:06Speaker 1: is going to be, and then it's mostly just boring
- 2:08Speaker 1: for like an hour and a half, then you're out.
- 2:11Speaker 3: But my kids have things they're really looking forward to
- 2:15Speaker 3: and and they'll be mildly amused or enjoy them whatever.
- 2:21Speaker 3: But I did the same thing my whole life, and
- 2:23Speaker 3: you know, I'm not in a mental institution or jobless
- 2:27Speaker 3: or anything like that. I survived, So maybe again, maybe
- 2:30Speaker 3: it's just part of the human condition looking forward to
- 2:33Speaker 3: meaningless crap.
- 2:35Speaker 4: It's like we mentioned yesterday during the headline segment, the
- 2:38Speaker 4: resting gift face. Yeah, where you're like you have that
- 2:43Speaker 4: split second to react and it's like.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Oh, oh, oh, I got a good test for my
- 2:48Speaker 3: youngest this year. This is a good test on his
- 2:50Speaker 3: maturity or learning a lesson. So he wanted to go
- 2:53Speaker 3: to that Eagles concert at the Sphere and and we went,
- 2:57Speaker 3: but we had we made it very clear to agreement,
- 2:59Speaker 3: this is this is a lot of your Christmas present
- 3:02Speaker 3: and your Birthday present, because his birthday is two days
- 3:04Speaker 3: before Christmas. This is a lot of it. Because this
- 3:05Speaker 3: is a very expensive thing that you really want to do.
- 3:08Speaker 3: He was fine with that. Absolutely that is what I
- 3:10Speaker 3: want to do. I know it's expensive, but I'll absolutely
- 3:12Speaker 3: fine with that. Now I've done that sort of thing
- 3:14Speaker 3: myself in my life, and we'll see how that feels
- 3:18Speaker 3: on the day of the birthday and Christmas morning. I
- 3:21Speaker 3: did make a shadow box that I'm giving him that's
- 3:24Speaker 3: got like a picture of us out front of the
- 3:26Speaker 3: concert picture of the concert ticket, the lanyard we rore
- 3:31Speaker 3: around our neck because we got these. Yeah, I made that,
- 3:34Speaker 3: So he's got something he can hang on his wall
- 3:35Speaker 3: to remember it by.
- 3:37Speaker 1: It's also going to suggest a rolled up xerox copy
- 3:41Speaker 1: of a picture of the ancient Don Henley with a
- 3:43Speaker 1: ribbon around it.
- 3:44Speaker 2: That's what I would do. It is.
- 3:45Speaker 3: It is also just a nudge and remember the concert.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Huh see you remember that right, that whole conversation without
- 3:51Speaker 3: me having to say it out loud. Look at this
- 3:53Speaker 3: beautiful display of your.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Birthday I'm giving you and Christmas that happened a couple
- 3:57Speaker 4: of months ago.
- 3:59Speaker 1: You'd like to view the contract. I can remind you
- 4:01Speaker 1: of its terms.
- 4:03Speaker 3: We'll see how that works out.
- 4:04Speaker 4: When you said Jesus is the reason for this season,
- 4:06Speaker 4: I always chuckle when I hear that, because in the
- 4:09Speaker 4: in the town where I grew up, there was a
- 4:10Speaker 4: family that lived up on the hill right along the
- 4:13Speaker 4: five eighty freeway running through the Bay Area, and this
- 4:18Speaker 4: the family had put up this sign and it was
- 4:20Speaker 4: lit up every single year. It said Jesus is the
- 4:22Speaker 4: reason for the season. But they were individual letters, probably
- 4:26Speaker 4: eight feet tall each. I mean this thing was huge,
- 4:28Speaker 4: so you can see it as you're driving on the freeway.
- 4:30Speaker 2: But that was the idea.
- 4:32Speaker 4: And one here I don't know if they were drunk
- 4:33Speaker 4: when they were putting it up or whatever, but we
- 4:35Speaker 4: drove by it. It said Jesus is the reason fro the season?
- 4:41Speaker 4: And I just I remember I looked at my mom.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I was like, how did he do? You didn't look
- 4:46Speaker 3: at that and go somethings off?
- 4:49Speaker 2: You didn't proof free Giant's backyard sign.
- 4:52Speaker 3: I wonder how many way would this hold him? Like, hey,
- 4:55Speaker 3: fro it's fro the season? Man?
- 4:58Speaker 2: Wow? Wow, So this is a charming tale.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Bob Sagers was walking around an indie music festival in
- 5:04Speaker 1: Salt Lake City when a friendly stranger approached him ask
- 5:06Speaker 1: him for his number. Quote, has anyone ever told you
- 5:09Speaker 1: that you have a Jesus look to you?
- 5:11Speaker 2: The man asked, Wow, okay.
- 5:13Speaker 1: At that point, the twenty five year old Sagar, who
- 5:17Speaker 1: works as a cheesemonger at a grocery store. While a
- 5:21Speaker 1: sort of line of work, you dream of his little
- 5:23Speaker 1: boy dad, I.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Want to grow up to be a cheesemonger.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Is that basically a psalm a or some malier or whatever,
- 5:32Speaker 3: you call that wine cheese cheese?
- 5:35Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, yeah, Actually, a delicious cheese is one of
- 5:38Speaker 1: the great pleasures in life, so I respect that.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Young men.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Maier is a much cooler name than cheesemonger. Though, No,
- 5:44Speaker 3: it's not cheese manger. Sounds like you you clean out
- 5:47Speaker 3: the vats down at the warehouse.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Just cheese. Who wants cheese? Who wants cheese? We've got
- 5:54Speaker 2: cheese here?
- 5:55Speaker 1: Well, you got sweet cheese, we got stinky cheese, we
- 5:58Speaker 1: got spicy cheese cheese.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I took Henry over to Napa the other day. I
- 6:02Speaker 3: don't know why I don't do that more often, the
- 6:04Speaker 3: fact that I'm like thirty miles thirty minutes away from
- 6:07Speaker 3: Napa Valley an hour labor go for anybody listening around
- 6:10Speaker 3: the country. But anyway, we went over there to get
- 6:12Speaker 3: some fabulous cheese, and man, there were some people there
- 6:14Speaker 3: that were just so into cheese. Look, I came here
- 6:17Speaker 3: to get cheese, but I just take it down like
- 6:20Speaker 3: eighty percent. I mean, I just can't.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I can't talk this much about cheese, right right, yeah, people,
- 6:27Speaker 1: it's well.
- 6:27Speaker 3: It's like the wines, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:29Speaker 1: The whole you know, the twenty seven word description of
- 6:32Speaker 1: the way it tastes as you wash it around your.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Palate with bramble, bowdies and earth and granite.
- 6:38Speaker 3: And all I wanted to say is, how do you
- 6:39Speaker 3: suppose this would be on a cracker? Pretty good? Okay?
- 6:43Speaker 1: Anyway, So the guy who asked him about the Jesus
- 6:46Speaker 1: look was not trying to pick him up. The man's
- 6:47Speaker 1: wife was an artist looking for religious models. This guy
- 6:51Speaker 1: who's six five with thirty blonde shoulder lengths hair and
- 6:54Speaker 1: a beard, he says, he says, gives Irish and Scandinavian
- 6:57Speaker 1: vibes Da da da, But he he had a side
- 7:00Speaker 1: hustle as a savior.
- 7:02Speaker 2: So he says.
- 7:02Speaker 3: So the person who walked up to him pictures Jesus
- 7:05Speaker 3: is a small forward. I didn't ever picture Jesus at all.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Oh no, it's the long hair and the beard. As
- 7:09Speaker 3: we've been saying for decades now, many pictures of Jesus
- 7:15Speaker 3: in the Western world look like he's a member of
- 7:18Speaker 3: Super Tramp, which is a bit of an outdated reference
- 7:20Speaker 3: at this point. But he looks vaguely Scandinavian, generally like
- 7:26Speaker 3: dirty blonde, long haired, and bearded. Even though anthropologists had
- 7:30Speaker 3: pointed out Jesus was almost certainly a short, stock, stocky,
- 7:37Speaker 3: very dark haired.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Jew obvious obviously.
- 7:40Speaker 1: And I've seen renderings of what Jesus would look like,
- 7:44Speaker 1: and he doesn't look like a Swedish guitarist.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 7:50Speaker 1: People models who look like Jesus are in whatever that means,
- 7:54Speaker 1: are in high demand in Utah. That's because for a
- 7:57Speaker 1: growing number of people in the state, a picture isn't
- 7:59Speaker 1: complete without capital h him. They're hiring Jesus look like
- 8:04Speaker 1: for family portraits and wedding announcements.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Wow. No, what do you have him stand between? You're
- 8:09Speaker 3: like kids, you the wife, couple of kids. Jesus, he's
- 8:13Speaker 3: doing the Trump two sums up? Wow, probably not big
- 8:18Speaker 3: smile on his face. Don't smile, I think so much, Jesus.
- 8:20Speaker 3: I just it weirds me out. I just solemn. Look
- 8:23Speaker 3: the kids will smile.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I don't think he poses like he's your uncle, Jim.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I think it's it's more that Jesus is with us.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Oh okay, God, So like models are showing up to
- 8:36Speaker 1: walk with a newly engaged couple through a field, like
- 8:38Speaker 1: they're walking hand in hand and Jesus is looking on
- 8:42Speaker 1: to bless the union.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, when you say you walk with Jesus, you
- 8:45Speaker 3: don't mean you're literally I like.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Our way better. Do Kegg stand in the background standing family?
- 8:52Speaker 1: Why would he be doing that, Katie thought was a
- 8:55Speaker 1: single reason why I like Jesus photo. Or perhaps he's
- 9:02Speaker 1: playing with young children in the Bonnaville salt flats, cram
- 9:06Speaker 1: in with the family for the annual Christmas card.
- 9:08Speaker 2: That's closer to what you guys were talking about.
- 9:12Speaker 1: So since being recruited about four years ago, tall mister
- 9:16Speaker 1: Segers has posed as Jesus nearly a dozen times, and
- 9:20Speaker 1: as many have done it way more than that. They
- 9:23Speaker 1: charge about one hundred to two hundred dollars an hour
- 9:26Speaker 1: to pose with children, families, and couples at various locations
- 9:29Speaker 1: in Utah.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Wow, if you happen to look like Jesus, yeah, or
- 9:36Speaker 3: you can grow the hair in the beard. I suppose
- 9:37Speaker 3: that'd be good.
- 9:38Speaker 2: In the popular conception of Jesus.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Yeah, now, the job, but can be freighted with meaning
- 9:43Speaker 1: and responsibility. The right lookalikes find that people expect them
- 9:47Speaker 1: to embody Jesus in more ways than the hair and
- 9:49Speaker 1: the beard. Some models say they feel like a celebrity
- 9:52Speaker 1: when they don the robe and get treated like one too.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Wow, that is interesting. I could see doing that. But
- 9:59Speaker 3: if he's like a really grouchy guy, always staring at
- 10:01Speaker 3: his phone and drawing, dropping m F bombs, the whole
- 10:05Speaker 3: smoking a cigarettes, getting a lot of work out, hitting
- 10:10Speaker 3: his vap pen.
- 10:12Speaker 1: The one guy comments or mentioned that, look, I got
- 10:16Speaker 1: to remind people I'm not the real thing. You gotta
- 10:19Speaker 1: stop acting like that.
- 10:21Speaker 3: See that's weird. Yeah, Hey, my aunt has got cancer.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Is there anything you can do?
- 10:26Speaker 2: No? No, nothing. Can you walk across shove them into
- 10:32Speaker 2: the pool. This is my side hustle. Wow, I'm wearing
- 10:38Speaker 2: the rod Now.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna throw on jeans and my Armstrong and Geeddy
- 10:42Speaker 1: T shirt in about five minutes, So lighting up.
- 10:46Speaker 3: That is something.
- 10:50Speaker 1: See Areas of Utah with high concentrations of Mormons call
- 10:54Speaker 1: themselves Latter day Saint Sir Elidas, tend to lack potential
- 10:58Speaker 1: Jesus doppelgangers because men who volunteer for the church are
- 11:02Speaker 1: required to shave every day and keep their hair short.
- 11:05Speaker 1: So if you're looking for a quote unquote Jesus doppelganger,
- 11:10Speaker 1: you're gonna have to go out to Park City or something.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Find a nice Cheesemongol on get down.
- 11:13Speaker 2: The Street.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Picturing Jesus on the high dive. Well, I guess that's it.
- 11:22Speaker 3: That's a pretty good story.
