So, you know how we've covered a lot of food and drink vocabulary, but we haven't actually ordered coffee in a cafe yet. Luna: Oh, that's perfect. I love coffee. I'm always nervous about ordering in Spanish though. Lucas: Well, today we'll fix that. We have four simple phrases that will get you through any cafe visit. Luna: Okay, I'm with you. What's first? Lucas: The most basic: 'Un café, por favor.' That means 'A coffee, please.' Say it with me. Luna: Un café, por favor. Lucas: Perfect. Now, if you want a specific type, like a coffee with milk, you say 'Quiero un café con leche.' 'I want a coffee with milk.' Try it. Luna: Quiero un café con leche. Lucas: Very good. Now, when you're ready to pay, you ask '¿Cuánto es?' which means 'How much is it?' Go ahead. Luna: ¿Cuánto es? Lucas: And when you hand over the money, the cashier might say 'Aquí tiene,' meaning 'Here you go.' Let's practice that one. Luna: Aquí tiene. Lucas: Exactly. So let's imagine a quick scene. You walk into a cafe. What do you say first? Luna: Un café, por favor. Lucas: Then the cashier asks what kind. You say? Luna: Quiero un café con leche. Lucas: Great. They make it, and you ask... Luna: ¿Cuánto es? Lucas: They say 'Aquí tiene' as they give you change. You take it, say 'Gracias,' and you're done. Luna: That feels so real. I love the flow.
