- 1:03Speaker 1: bar two, hitting SEC and college football and all the
- 1:10Speaker 1: names that you like to talk about, Kiffyn Signetti, Kirby Golding,
- 1:17Speaker 1: Sark Levy, Summer all I mean, we went, didn't we
- 1:22Speaker 1: run the We ran the Gamut Go Lee. It was
- 1:25Speaker 1: so much fun. Last week was a ton of fun.
- 1:28Speaker 1: It was a lot because we were moving around and
- 1:30Speaker 1: so on, but holy smokes, it was great. Bar two

- 2:09Speaker 1: Award winning Elijah Craig Bourbon is the official bourbon of
- 2:12Speaker 1: the show. We'll head there on Thursday and spend a
- 2:16Speaker 1: few days in Bardstown slash Louisville, Kentucky, and I'm looking
- 2:23Speaker 1: forward to that. I got to go to the heaven
- 2:25Speaker 1: Hill Distillery, who owns Elijah Craig and along with Larceny
- 2:30Speaker 1: and heaven Hill Bottled in Bond is an award winning
- 2:34Speaker 1: bourbon too, But our focus is Elijah Craig. And last
- 2:39Speaker 1: year I got to go to the heaven Hill Distillery
- 2:42Speaker 1: and they were just completing a new distillery. Remember how
- 2:45Speaker 1: much they had spent, but I think it was a
- 2:47Speaker 1: couple hundred million. But anyway, the point is it's a beautiful,
- 2:52Speaker 1: beautiful property. The bar. If you go on any kind
- 2:55Speaker 1: of bourbon tour and you're in the you know Lexington, Louisville,
- 2:59Speaker 1: bar Artstown area. I highly recommend Heaven Hill, and the
- 3:05Speaker 1: bar and restaurant in there is top notch. Like I
- 3:08Speaker 1: didn't really have high expectations for it. I mean, I
- 3:11Speaker 1: just thought, yeah, it'll be just a solid cafe, we'll
- 3:14Speaker 1: get a burger and move on.
- 3:16Speaker 3: No.
- 3:16Speaker 1: No, it's on the second level of their big welcome center, okay,
- 3:24Speaker 1: which is all these facillaries have where you know, down
- 3:27Speaker 1: below in the first floor you have your merch and
- 3:29Speaker 1: kind of tells the story of how it evolved the
- 3:32Speaker 1: last one hundred and fifty years. But when you go
- 3:35Speaker 1: to the second floor of Heaven Hill, it's nothing but
- 3:39Speaker 1: windows overlooking a beautiful piece of property, which is where
- 3:44Speaker 1: they make the bourbon. And the bar and restaurant is great.
- 3:49Speaker 1: The bartenders last year were awesome, were they. They do
- 3:52Speaker 1: a bunch of craft cocktails and things like that for
- 3:55Speaker 1: you too, So it's a ton of fun. There's people
- 3:57Speaker 1: moving in and out of there because they're doing tours.
- 4:01Speaker 1: We were lucky enough to be able to do you know,
- 4:03Speaker 1: private tastings, which is a ton of fun. And we'll
- 4:06Speaker 1: be there again on Thursday and come back on Sunday,
- 4:09Speaker 1: So I'll make sure I'll be in Louisville for two
- 4:12Speaker 1: of those nights. Should I go by and see Jeff Brom?
- 4:14Speaker 1: Since Old Miss is playing Louisville. In Game one in Nashville,
- 4:17Speaker 1: we got Trinidad Chambliss against Jeff Brom. Jeff Brom played
- 4:21Speaker 1: quarterback at Louisville, then went on to have a super
- 4:24Speaker 1: successful career as a head coach. He actually won a
- 4:27Speaker 1: Western Kentucky and Purdue, which nobody does. And now he's
- 4:32Speaker 1: been winning in Louisville and there you go. Well, I
- 4:38Speaker 1: think we'll stay right down from the Young Center. That's
- 4:42Speaker 1: you that's your KFC deal. Love that? Yeah, yeah, you do.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Love the YOUM Center. Can you believe I just pulled that?
- 4:50Speaker 1: That's pretty good. Yeah, how do you feel about that?
- 4:53Speaker 1: Is it a collective? What the young folks are? They KFC?
- 4:59Speaker 1: Well they're KFC. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't know
- 5:02Speaker 1: what all they are, but but it's it's it's the
- 5:06Speaker 1: YOUM Center or something. Because I walked by in the
- 5:10Speaker 1: morning last year when we were waiting to go out
- 5:12Speaker 1: to do the barrel pick at Elijah Craig heaven Hill,
- 5:18Speaker 1: you know, and I went in a day early. Remember
- 5:20Speaker 1: I met our friend Mark. I should be able to
- 5:23Speaker 1: remember stoops huh stoops. Now Mark the winemaker who was
- 5:28Speaker 1: in here, and he's got the building in Louisville, Kentucky
- 5:33Speaker 1: that's a bourbon bar, and he invited me to it.
- 5:36Speaker 1: He's been He's had like one hundred wines rated at
- 5:40Speaker 1: ninety nine. Mark Carter, Mark Carter, Carter sellars. So he
- 5:44Speaker 1: was in in our studio and then he bought, even
- 5:49Speaker 1: though he's tied into northern California, he bought this unbelievable
- 5:55Speaker 1: building downtown in Louisville, not far from the YOUM Center.
- 5:59Speaker 1: And I got to go see him the day before
- 6:03Speaker 1: all my Elijah Craig guys flew in town and we
- 6:07Speaker 1: drank his he's gone from wine. He's still doing great
- 6:10Speaker 1: wine and he's probably top ten winemaker in the world
- 6:15Speaker 1: the last forty years. But his bourbon club it's a
- 6:20Speaker 1: private club, that's what it is. It's not a bourbon bar.
- 6:23Speaker 1: It's a bourbon club. And he invited me up there
- 6:26Speaker 1: and we had a really good time. In downtown. It
- 6:29Speaker 1: looked like George Street. It's got that exposed brick like that,
- 6:35Speaker 1: and these beautiful lockers for the members. Lots of brass
- 6:40Speaker 1: and like I said, hardwood floors and really really nice
- 6:46Speaker 1: spot if you can find it. You wouldn't know if
- 6:49Speaker 1: you were walking by, so you got to know kind
- 6:52Speaker 1: of where you're going. Then he just opened the door
- 6:54Speaker 1: and welcomed me in, which was pretty awesome. So that's
- 6:57Speaker 1: my rambling on going. I'm going to basketball country slash
- 7:01Speaker 1: bourbon country slash horse racing or horse breeding country, how
- 7:08Speaker 1: about that? Yeah? Yeah, yeah. In the horse breeding game,
- 7:13Speaker 1: I may you know, here's cheap, nothing to it, just
- 7:19Speaker 1: hop on it. That's expensive horse that's expensive. Yeah, like
- 7:24Speaker 1: it gets expensive real fast. They spent so much money
- 7:29Speaker 1: on those things. Yeah. Yeah. I sat down one night
- 7:32Speaker 1: in twenty fourteen when we had dinner with Gary Danielson, Yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 1: and the CBS crew the night before that game in
- 7:42Speaker 1: twenty fourteen and startbum and they had rented out the
- 7:45Speaker 1: back of the guest room, and I sat down beside
- 7:48Speaker 1: this guy who was a petroleum engineer at Mississippi State
- 7:52Speaker 1: and he had left in like nineteen seventy to go
- 7:54Speaker 1: to Houston, Texas, and his family's in the horse business
- 7:58Speaker 1: and he he had just shipped his horse over to Europe.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Oh and as he was telling me that. I was thinking,
- 8:07Speaker 1: how much does that cost God to show that horse
- 8:11Speaker 1: in Europe or ride that horse in wait whatever? Good Lord?
- 8:17Speaker 1: And that what is first time you can just to
- 8:20Speaker 1: buy Wonder's been a six figures plus? Right? Well, what's it?
- 8:23Speaker 1: What does it cost to ship horses overseas? Heaby got
- 8:29Speaker 1: a guest here. The Dancing Rabbit Golf text line is
- 8:32Speaker 1: six oh one eight eight five three seven seven six.
- 8:37Speaker 1: If we have any equestrian insiders listening, it's powered by
- 8:42Speaker 1: Dancing Rabbit Golf Club. Six oh one eight eight five
- 8:45Speaker 1: three seven seven six. We're we're excited. In the third hour,
- 8:50Speaker 1: we're gonna talk food. Joe Craven will join us. Owner
- 8:55Speaker 1: of Walker's Drive In, Derek Emerson sold it to Joe Craven.
- 9:02Speaker 1: They're tied together though, and Walker's is I mean Walker's
- 9:08Speaker 1: Drive In is Yeah. People have known about it forever
- 9:12Speaker 1: and it's you know, Derek took it to another level
- 9:15Speaker 1: and that was cool to have Derek Emerson. We're doing this,
- 9:18Speaker 1: we're spotlighting and highlighting Jackson City limit chefs and restaurants,
- 9:26Speaker 1: and so Joe Craven with Walkers Drive In will join
- 9:28Speaker 1: us at nine point thirty on the Farm Bureau Insurance
- 9:32Speaker 1: guest line.
- 10:24Speaker 3: I get, I'll get too venty. I go, you know, Starbucks,
- 10:27Speaker 3: You'll get too venty of the pipe with two shots
- 10:31Speaker 3: in them. So black Eye and both That's what I
- 10:35Speaker 3: come in with. That's how to start the day.
- 10:37Speaker 1: So Holy Muriel's ab We are the out of Bound Show,
- 10:42Speaker 1: ESPN one oh five nine the Zone. Your delicious breakfast
- 10:48Speaker 1: biscuits are brought to you by Martin's Market in Livingston.
- 10:53Speaker 1: It's in the front Martin's and Livingston is in the back.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Martin's Market has a great select grab and go breakfast biscuits,
- 11:01Speaker 1: super fresh, hot, delicious Martin's Market in Livingston. And then
- 11:06Speaker 1: don't forget that they've got a great selection of steaks
- 11:09Speaker 1: that you can grab for the house. Joseph and the team,
- 11:12Speaker 1: I mean they are phenomenal. And I'm talking Tomahawks, plays, Rabbis,
- 11:20Speaker 1: you name it. Martin's Market for steaks. Also again, breakfast
- 11:25Speaker 1: biscuits to go. This is one O five done the
- 11:27Speaker 1: Zone e SPN. One O five done the Zone, ESPN.
- 11:33Speaker 1: And we'll have Joe Craven on at nine thirty, the
- 11:37Speaker 1: new owner of Walker's Drive In excited about that we
- 11:41Speaker 1: had Derek Emerson on Friday. That was fun. Derek ownes
- 11:45Speaker 1: Little Effie and Masa Mesa which I went to on Friday.
- 11:51Speaker 1: I had their black and redfish taco with the hardshell.
- 11:55Speaker 1: It's redfish Diana and uh, it was delicious. They do
- 12:01Speaker 1: these smoked black beans with it. It's in the east
- 12:04Speaker 1: Over District. We'll be showcasing, highlighting Jackson Culinary because we
- 12:09Speaker 1: are the culinary show of choice in the SEC. And
- 12:14Speaker 1: two of them that you want to hit in the
- 12:16Speaker 1: East Over District Masa Mesa and look, if there would
- 12:21Speaker 1: have been more people with me, I would have ordered more.
- 12:26Speaker 1: And the bartender told me they've got about five different burgers.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Bartender told me their burgers were the best he's ever had.
- 12:35Speaker 1: So that's Masa Mesa in the east Over District. It
- 12:39Speaker 1: was good to have Derek on. He sold Walker's Drive
- 12:42Speaker 1: into Joe Craven. Joe Craven will join us at nine
- 12:45Speaker 1: thirty and we'll be we'll be rolling through. Let me
- 12:47Speaker 1: see what I've got here, one, two, three, four, five
- 12:52Speaker 1: more or six more, six more chef restaurant tours. It
- 12:56Speaker 1: could in fact, we've got one that owns a bakery.
- 13:00Speaker 1: So there's unbelievable food in the Jackson city limits. We
- 13:04Speaker 1: want you to try it and celebrate it. Y'all know
- 13:07Speaker 1: I say this all the time, and I know you
- 13:09Speaker 1: get tired of it. But those of you, because I've
- 13:11Speaker 1: lived in both, you know, I've lived in Jackson for
- 13:15Speaker 1: years and years and years, and I've lived in Madison
- 13:18Speaker 1: now for years. But for those of you in Madison, Flowood, Brandon, wherever, Clinton,
- 13:23Speaker 1: you're missing out if you don't go into Jackson and
- 13:26Speaker 1: enjoy the food. Amazing restaurants and chefs and small little
- 13:30Speaker 1: places and bakeries and you know, everything from Hickory Pitt
- 13:34Speaker 1: to Masa Mesa to Rowans and Manship and many others
- 13:40Speaker 1: in between. So we'll be who text me? The chef
- 13:45Speaker 1: from Manship. She texted me yesterday she had been busy, busy,
- 13:50Speaker 1: which I get they had had a huge catering order
- 13:53Speaker 1: or something. And she's going to come on here soon.
- 13:58Speaker 1: So I'm looking forward to that. Did go by the Manship.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I'm on my own culinary tour because if we're going
- 14:03Speaker 1: to partner with Jackson on this, then not Jackson meadows
- 14:08Speaker 1: the city. But I'm partner with Jackson every day on
- 14:10Speaker 1: the show. But if we're going to do this, not
- 14:13Speaker 1: that I'm not there, I'm in Jackson all the time,
- 14:15Speaker 1: almost daily, but I got to go through and try
- 14:18Speaker 1: everything again. So last week I smashed a cheeseburger at Rowans,
- 14:24Speaker 1: I had gumbo at the Manship, and I had the
- 14:27Speaker 1: black and Redfish taco at my Samesa in the East
- 14:30Speaker 1: Over District. And I'm trying to think what else. Wennie
- 14:33Speaker 1: and I went to Bravo yesterday for Branch. There was
- 14:38Speaker 1: some other place I went to last week that Jackson
- 14:41Speaker 1: and I were talking about. Anyway, we've got great restaurants
- 14:45Speaker 1: on the show all over the state, and we've never
- 14:47Speaker 1: been in a better culinary boom, and there's only more coming.
- 14:51Speaker 1: But we're lucky. From Tie to American and everything in between,
- 14:55Speaker 1: we've got great food and from absolute dive bars, which
- 14:58Speaker 1: is really what and built the show to more of
- 15:01Speaker 1: a fine dining, which is totally different now than nineteen
- 15:04Speaker 1: eighty four when you actually had to wear a blue
- 15:06Speaker 1: blazer to Fisherman's War for wherever the hell you were going.
- 15:09Speaker 1: But well, i mean, like I remember being a kid
- 15:11Speaker 1: and we were always going to commanders and you had
- 15:13Speaker 1: to wear you had to wear. You had to shuffle
- 15:15Speaker 1: in there at nine, you didn't know where you were.
- 15:17Speaker 1: You know, you had stuff all over your face from
- 15:20Speaker 1: whatever you were eating prior to in the car and
- 15:23Speaker 1: had you had a blazer on to go watch them?
- 15:26Speaker 1: Do you know whatever primberlet or or bread pudding and
- 15:34Speaker 1: among other dishes on the table I mean beside the table, which,
- 15:39Speaker 1: by the way, I know most everybody's done it a lot.
- 15:43Speaker 1: But you know, back then in nineteen eighty three, dude,
- 15:46Speaker 1: that was big living. Somebody coming to the table and
- 15:49Speaker 1: firing up some fire and cooking something in front of you.
- 15:52Speaker 1: When you were nine years old, you were like, what
- 15:54Speaker 1: the hell? Yeah, look at a Botchi restaurant. A year
- 15:57Speaker 1: later in nineteen eighty four, I'm eating es cargo and
- 16:00Speaker 1: Washington d C. What is going on here? What I'm
- 16:04Speaker 1: eating snails? Yeah, No, they're fabulous, they are. I'm when
- 16:09Speaker 1: we go to when we go to Kessler, I'm ordering
- 16:12Speaker 1: escargo with that good with escargo. There's plenty of butter
- 16:18Speaker 1: in it. Yeah, and you will you'll love it. Is
- 16:20Speaker 1: there a big difference between that and escallop? A snail
- 16:24Speaker 1: and a scallop? Yeah, I mean, like I know, that
- 16:26Speaker 1: the actual like b but I mean when may when cooked, Yes, okay,
- 16:30Speaker 1: there is. They don't They're not boasted slimmy. A lot
- 16:34Speaker 1: of people would describe them as slimmy. Yeah, texture is,
- 16:38Speaker 1: but you've got a breaded almost uh croissant type uh
- 16:44Speaker 1: deal on top of your escargo. Okay, okay, yeah, word,
- 16:49Speaker 1: that was not a good description, but that was what
- 16:53Speaker 1: I could come up come up with, right now, you
- 16:56Speaker 1: known do you call them? First of all, and by
- 16:58Speaker 1: the way, Derek Emerson's coming back on the show, we
- 17:02Speaker 1: did not know, and that I was mad at myself.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I did not know that his dad was the photographer
- 17:10Speaker 1: for Michael Jackson in the eighties. So again, I'm a
- 17:14Speaker 1: Michael Jackson. You know, right when I was getting to
- 17:16Speaker 1: be ten years old, he became the biggest thing in
- 17:18Speaker 1: the world in five seconds, all right. For some of
- 17:21Speaker 1: you it was the Stones or the Beatles or fast
- 17:24Speaker 1: forward whatever it was for Jackson's age. But Michael Jackson,
- 17:28Speaker 1: when I was ten years old, became the biggest star
- 17:31Speaker 1: in the world. Derek Emerson's dad was Michael Jackson's photographer
- 17:36Speaker 1: and on one of their one of his albums, he
- 17:40Speaker 1: did that that photo. Yeah, I don't remember what which one.
- 17:43Speaker 1: It wasn't Beat it but it was one of them.
- 17:46Speaker 1: But he was with Mike from Beat It On. That's
- 17:49Speaker 1: what he's starting, that's right, okay, And then he mentioned uh,
- 17:54Speaker 1: oh man, I hate that I didn't write it down
- 17:56Speaker 1: because we were standing up in the middle of the studio.
- 17:58Speaker 1: But I then to come back in uh. But there
- 18:01Speaker 1: were two or three other bands that if I set them,
- 18:04Speaker 1: you would know their name. He grew up in LA
- 18:07Speaker 1: before going to Meridian with his grandparents and ending up here.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Thank god he did, because he's part of an amazing
- 18:13Speaker 1: culinary scene that has grown the last thirty five plus
- 18:17Speaker 1: years here in the Jackson and Jackson metro area. But
- 18:21Speaker 1: we will have him back on because I have to
- 18:23Speaker 1: have Michael Jackson stories. And it's Joe Craven's with an
- 18:28Speaker 1: S and so Weber State coach's really good. Back in
- 18:32Speaker 1: the day. Really, they made some n CUAA tournaments. I
- 18:37Speaker 1: think in the hoops, that's right. Are they in the Midwest?
- 18:40Speaker 1: Is that what you counted? What are the Indianas Ohio
- 18:44Speaker 1: are Let's see, I think I believe it is Indiana.
- 18:47Speaker 1: I'll give you just a Weber State is in Utah. Okay,
- 18:52Speaker 1: that's not the Midwest. Is that PAC twelve? Well it was.
- 18:56Speaker 1: They don't exist. Yeah, they don't exist. Now, I mean
- 18:58Speaker 1: the they with some teams back together, but come on,
- 19:02Speaker 1: they have two teams, don't they have a couple of teams, like,
- 19:05Speaker 1: well they got I can't remember who all they put together,
- 19:08Speaker 1: Jackson maybe, Fresno State, Oregon State, Washington State, San Diego State.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I can't remember who's leaving and who's not from that
- 19:18Speaker 1: UNLV Boise Conference of the Mountain West. But there's some
- 19:22Speaker 1: stuff going on out there, but I can't I can't remember. Yeah,
- 19:26Speaker 1: that'll be basketball only. Okay, you held the majority of
- 19:31Speaker 1: them San Diego State. Hey, the Out of Bounds Show
- 19:35Speaker 1: is brought to you by Southern nag Credit Financing Life
- 19:39Speaker 1: outside the City Limits, Southern bag Credit dot Com, located
- 19:46Speaker 1: right here in Ridgeland. We're gonna give Daddy the Rainman.
- 20:14Speaker 3: Sweet.
- 20:14Speaker 1: You think that we're going to Vegas, Mike, Vegas. Do
- 20:17Speaker 1: you think we can do my midnight money? We're gonna
- 20:18Speaker 1: be up five hund by midlights Vegas, Baby Vegas Show,
- 20:30Speaker 1: ESPN one oh five nine. The Zone were brought to
- 20:33Speaker 1: you by the Golden Moon casino on the property of
- 20:36Speaker 1: Pearl River Resort inside the Golden Moon. You had the
- 20:39Speaker 1: Vegas Sports Book. Bar two and I were there last week.
- 20:42Speaker 1: We had a great time. Uh. It's a wonderful place
- 20:45Speaker 1: to enjoy football season and golf and the sports book
- 20:52Speaker 1: and table games and Philip Ems Guyser Falls is still
- 20:54Speaker 1: open for another five weeks or so. Pearl River Resort
- 21:00Speaker 1: dot com. This is one O five nine the Zone.
- 21:03Speaker 1: ESPN got a couple of audio drops that we're gonna
- 21:07Speaker 1: land here with you.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Uh.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Bar two was with us last week. That was a
- 21:12Speaker 1: ton of fun. The feedback from y'all was great. He
- 21:15Speaker 1: cracks y'all up. He's crazy and uh the texts were
- 21:22Speaker 1: awesome all week on kind of Bar two in his craziness,
- 21:26Speaker 1: which is fun. We're always looking for another angle or
- 21:30Speaker 1: some you know, nuggets or information metrics which his analytics
- 21:38Speaker 1: to uh, to tell the story of maybe the who, what,
- 21:40Speaker 1: where and why on your team or your coach. Uh.
- 21:44Speaker 1: And then we got all the coaches last week. They
- 21:46Speaker 1: all made, you know, an appearance at SEC Media Days,
- 21:52Speaker 1: Golding and Levy h and UH. Who knew that that
- 21:59Speaker 1: a team and a coach could win SEC Media days,
- 22:03Speaker 1: I kid you not, and that's amazing to me. And
- 22:11Speaker 1: I mean, none of what happened last week has anything
- 22:14Speaker 1: to do with what can happen on the field. However,
- 22:17Speaker 1: it was fun to hear from all sixteen or most
- 22:21Speaker 1: of them head coaches. I'm not sure anybody was really
- 22:24Speaker 1: listening to like Clark Lee, but you know, maybe they weren't,
- 22:30Speaker 1: and maybe Pavia gave him a little juice, extended juice.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Pavia got cut last week from the Ravens. We'll see
- 22:37Speaker 1: what happens with him. You know, I wouldn't be surprised
- 22:40Speaker 1: if he's a guy that goes to the Canadian Football
- 22:42Speaker 1: League in place for ten years, no doubt, Yeah, and
- 22:47Speaker 1: just hurts people's feelings or maybe the UFL. I don't know,
- 22:51Speaker 1: but he to me, he's a He's a guy that
- 22:56Speaker 1: is I wouldn't think is going to throw in the
- 22:58Speaker 1: towel now. I would think if he played his cards right,
- 23:02Speaker 1: and I'm assuming he did, after he gives this run
- 23:12Speaker 1: of football, and again, who knows, he may find another
- 23:16Speaker 1: NFL team where he can be a backup. But if
- 23:19Speaker 1: it's not the Canadian Football League eventually or the UFL
- 23:22Speaker 1: or whatever, I would think he could get in with
- 23:25Speaker 1: the Vanderbilt commodore alum who has a big private equity firm.
- 23:29Speaker 1: And considering he's the most successful player, he may not
- 23:34Speaker 1: be the best. Jay Cutler may be better because as
- 23:36Speaker 1: an NFL player he was a legitimate starter in the NFL,
- 23:40Speaker 1: but as the best player on the field to lead
- 23:43Speaker 1: Vanderbilt to a ten and two record, and the year
- 23:47Speaker 1: before that beating Alabama and embarrassing them in Nashville and
- 23:53Speaker 1: running out the clock on them by running the football
- 23:55Speaker 1: in which Diego was one of them. But also that
- 23:58Speaker 1: tailback went through Bama's defense like Derrick Henry running against
- 24:03Speaker 1: seventh graders. I would think Diego Pavia, former Vanderbilt QB
- 24:10Speaker 1: will be just fine. Now. He made some people mad
- 24:15Speaker 1: a little bit later in his career. What was the
- 24:17Speaker 1: big brew?
- 24:18Speaker 2: Haha?
- 24:18Speaker 1: I can't even remember. He just you know, well he went,
- 24:21Speaker 1: you know, you shouldn't have been I think he had.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Was it there in the combine or was it even
- 24:26Speaker 1: back in the season, I think it was. Was it
- 24:27Speaker 1: not a Senior Bowl? Was it the Senior Bowl where
- 24:30Speaker 1: he was down Yonder and decided to go have a
- 24:33Speaker 1: little time at the pub? Was that it? He went
- 24:37Speaker 1: to a bar. That was one thing, God forbid, because
- 24:40Speaker 1: no no Ole miss or Mississippi State players have ever
- 24:43Speaker 1: been to a bar. Right, it was more of the
- 24:45Speaker 1: what was it the filming or somebody was trying to
- 24:48Speaker 1: they were trying to take a petro and he grabbed
- 24:49Speaker 1: the phone and smashed it. That didn't help him. That
- 24:51Speaker 1: maybe been a second incident. He had a couple. Okay,
- 24:55Speaker 1: so he's he But I think he. I think he.
- 24:59Speaker 1: I don't think he's burned enough bridges my point in this.
- 25:03Speaker 1: I think he could be on TV too. You don't
- 25:09Speaker 1: think so, I don't know. Maybe I don't know. Okay,
- 25:14Speaker 1: I need to hear I need to hear him, Like
- 25:16Speaker 1: is he does he have more of the New Mexico?
- 25:18Speaker 3: Oh?
- 25:18Speaker 1: It was the Heisman thing, That's what I was trying.
- 25:21Speaker 1: The Heisman thing kicked people off. Well, yeah, here here's
- 25:25Speaker 1: an award and trophy that has been devalued beyond not
- 25:31Speaker 1: quite our dollar since Richard Nixon, but but has been devalued.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Good lord, that's what it was. And people got got
- 25:39Speaker 1: to pearl clutching on that. But I can't. We'll have
- 25:41Speaker 1: to look up exactly what he said. Okay, yeah, he
- 25:45Speaker 1: was in the club afterwards doing the talking to Mendoza
- 25:48Speaker 1: and whatnot through a sign. Okay, okay, okay, that that's
- 25:54Speaker 1: what it Okay, that's yeah. It was man cell like
- 25:58Speaker 1: bright out of Johnny's playbook. But those guys, that's what
- 26:01Speaker 1: also drives them to be as successful as Diego Pavia
- 26:07Speaker 1: was on the field. He's a street guy. He's the
- 26:11Speaker 1: guy that's like, what, I'll play you on this asphalt?
- 26:15Speaker 1: You know, find what at four on four, six on six,
- 26:18Speaker 1: eight on eight in football, or you know, wherever you
- 26:22Speaker 1: want to go. It can be broken glass on the
- 26:25Speaker 1: on the street. But if you want a ball, then
- 26:29Speaker 1: I'm ready be the most dangerous arena football league player ever.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Now that's a great I went to an arena football
- 26:36Speaker 1: game in Phoenix, Arizona in nineteen ninety seven. Whoa and
- 26:41Speaker 1: was And it was by the way, the Sun's arena
- 26:44Speaker 1: was packed. Was it pumping? And it was like a
- 26:49Speaker 1: fifty six to fifty four games And it was one
- 26:52Speaker 1: of the most entertaining experiences I've ever had. Now, is
- 26:55Speaker 1: arena football still around? I don't know that it is.
- 26:58Speaker 1: It maybe overseas, Okay, I know I know it's here.
- 27:01Speaker 1: So now you got the UFL, which Logan Bill calls right,
- 27:03Speaker 1: isn't that way? He chugged the beer and he told
- 27:05Speaker 1: us about it a couple of months ago. Oh god,
- 27:08Speaker 1: you have the Canadian Football League that was able to
- 27:10Speaker 1: make it, and so there are some opportunities for him
- 27:16Speaker 1: to pull a six figure check oh and play football.
- 27:20Speaker 1: He he may try to land on one more or
- 27:24Speaker 1: two more NFL teams to see if he can find
- 27:26Speaker 1: a spot. Is the backup and then go from there. Yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 1: the major North American leagues obviously are CFL and NFL
- 27:34Speaker 1: the Alternative and Spring leagues or UFL and IFL the
- 27:38Speaker 1: Indoor Football League. Okay, I don't know if that's their
- 27:41Speaker 1: new iteration. Okay, but yeah, the arena football was sight
- 27:46Speaker 1: that was so exciting. Well, I can tell you this.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I could not believe how good the product was in
- 27:56Speaker 1: it was fun. Kurt Water was out there slinging doms. Yeah,
- 28:00Speaker 1: before he made it big bagging groceries, then arena football
- 28:03Speaker 1: or something like that, and then made the NFL and
- 28:06Speaker 1: won a Super Bowl. That's crazy. I know, I know
- 28:10Speaker 1: it was founded forty years ago. How about the nineteen
- 28:13Speaker 1: eighty six Arena football? Okay, so I called it a
- 28:18Speaker 1: decade plus in. I can't remember who Phoenix was playing
- 28:22Speaker 1: that day. I should even back then, they this is
- 28:25Speaker 1: before we were all we went crazy over Oregon's uniforms.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Even back then they had really cool uniforms. Okay. Jim Foster,
- 28:38Speaker 1: who is the former exec of the NFL and the USFL,
- 28:41Speaker 1: he's the one that created arena football. Okay, that makes sense.
- 28:44Speaker 1: I was smart. That makes sense. So they made it
- 28:47Speaker 1: for a little while. I think they had their own
- 28:49Speaker 1: developmental league. That surprises me. Not sure what that exactly was.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I find it hard to believe that they had that
- 28:58Speaker 1: much capital to get that done. I would think it
- 29:01Speaker 1: took everything you could just to have whatever you had
- 29:03Speaker 1: an eight arena football leagues or whatever it was. Didn't
- 29:06Speaker 1: but it was packed. I remember we could get a beer,
- 29:09Speaker 1: which was a big deal the end, because here and
- 29:12Speaker 1: in the Sunbelt you couldn't get a beer, right, I
- 29:17Speaker 1: guess you could at the Saints games, but anyway, I
- 29:20Speaker 1: remember we went we got a beer and we were like,
- 29:23Speaker 1: we're drinking a beer watching a football game. Yeah, of course. Yeah.
- 29:28Speaker 1: And the didn't they start the or didn't they have
- 29:31Speaker 1: it to where, you know, on a fly forty where
- 29:34Speaker 1: you know how you start running before you start the
- 29:36Speaker 1: forty time? Didn't they have they did that on the snaps.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Weren't they allowed to start in the backfield to take
- 29:41Speaker 1: off running? Yeah? I think it right. You were on side,
- 29:44Speaker 1: you were good. Yeah, we love that. It burned everybody.
- 29:48Speaker 1: And I want to say there was a Mississippi State
- 29:50Speaker 1: or Ole miss or both player in that game, but
- 29:53Speaker 1: I'm going to have to go back and retrieve that
- 29:57Speaker 1: and check it out. I mean, look, the quarterbacks were
- 29:59Speaker 1: making when they're at their peak, when the AFL was
- 30:04Speaker 1: at its peak. Okay, wonderate bad. But Diego Pavia can
- 30:09Speaker 1: do new media. Yes, he can do a podcast and
- 30:15Speaker 1: one of the chances he linked with Johnny. That'd be
- 30:18Speaker 1: incredible if you had Diego Pave and Johnny Manzel, if
- 30:22Speaker 1: they were disciplined enough to do a show three days
- 30:25Speaker 1: a week, it could be really good and entertaining. Now
- 30:29Speaker 1: they'd have to stay away from being silly all the time.
- 30:34Speaker 1: But I think it's got some lags. Yeah, I mean
- 30:38Speaker 1: I think they're both how long of a podcast they
- 30:43Speaker 1: could do an hour a day, three days and three
- 30:45Speaker 1: days a week. It's beautiful. Yeah, that would work. Okay,
- 30:51Speaker 1: in the New Orleans have the New Orleans voodoo? Yes,
- 30:56Speaker 1: I assume Benson probably did. Dang. They played all the
- 31:02Speaker 1: way uptil he went from car dealerships where they thought
- 31:06Speaker 1: they were making money to buying the Saints and making
- 31:13Speaker 1: his family billionaires. Bills, and now he owns the Pelicans, right,
- 31:19Speaker 1: I mean he's on the Pelicans for a while, right,
- 31:22Speaker 1: But good lord, thefl was hot, man. They were averaging,
- 31:25Speaker 1: you know, thirteen thousand in the stands for a little bit,
- 31:27Speaker 1: and then O nine came and they set out the
- 31:29Speaker 1: year and then it just dwindled. They didn't stop until
- 31:31Speaker 1: twenty twenty. Really, they went through. They played the nineteen season,
- 31:36Speaker 1: they only had six teams, Okay they had in twenty
- 31:40Speaker 1: eleven they had eighteen teams in there. Yeah, that's too many.
- 31:43Speaker 1: That's a lot of it. But it worked, and I'm
- 31:46Speaker 1: just telling you. In nineteen ninety seven, arena league football
- 31:50Speaker 1: in Phoenix was hopp Hey, it had Yeah, the Sun's
- 31:55Speaker 1: arena was was was banging. That's cool. Yeah, how big
- 31:59Speaker 1: they're field? Where they weren't? I went in May show
- 32:03Speaker 1: they were playing arena football in May. Yeah, I wonder
- 32:08Speaker 1: how big those fields were? They weren't a hundred right,
- 32:11Speaker 1: no way, uh no, no, no, no, no, this is a no,
- 32:16Speaker 1: they were not. Yeah. Wow, Yeah, I wish i'd see
- 32:21Speaker 1: one of those. That'd be cool. Two eight yard end zones.
- 32:24Speaker 1: It would be perfect for you since you're scrappy doo
- 32:27Speaker 1: or whatever, because there's so much going on every play. Yeah,
- 32:32Speaker 1: you've got a whole bunch. It's wild. It's wild to
- 32:37Speaker 1: me that model could could continue to work. I hate
- 32:39Speaker 1: they got zapped by COVID, but a lot of the
- 32:41Speaker 1: smaller leagues, a lot of the European basketball got zapped
- 32:44Speaker 1: because you know, there was a lot of stuff like
- 32:46Speaker 1: that just leaves it barely were hanging on year to year,
- 32:49Speaker 1: but could still make it. Once you miss a year,
- 32:52Speaker 1: you you can't. You can't get it back. You wanted
- 32:55Speaker 1: to drop the bar two? All right? Uh Dave? Bar
- 32:58Speaker 1: two tied in Dan Mullen and kept then last week
- 33:01Speaker 1: and the impact that they've had on college football since
- 33:05Speaker 1: twenty ten. This is bar two on Lane Train and
- 33:10Speaker 1: Dan Mullen. All right, Diamond, Dave, you know one thing
- 33:14Speaker 1: that we brought up last night. I don't remember if
- 33:15Speaker 1: it was you or John. I think y'all were in
- 33:18Speaker 1: a back and forth, which is fun coaching unicorns.
- 33:23Speaker 4: Were we talking about Mullen, We were talking. We were
- 33:26Speaker 4: talking about mullin Okay, about that, okay, and how his
- 33:32Speaker 4: closest guy. Yes, right, because we went for everybody who
- 33:39Speaker 4: should tune into the YouTube channel.
- 33:41Speaker 1: You and I did almost two hours yesterday. God, we
- 33:44Speaker 1: did NonStop.
- 33:48Speaker 4: And so one of the things that the database allows
- 33:53Speaker 4: me to do is looking at coaches in a way
- 33:56Speaker 4: I've never been able to on the fly. And we talked,
- 34:00Speaker 4: you know, the unicorn and what we talked about at
- 34:03Speaker 4: the YouTube channel show yesterday had to do with coach
- 34:07Speaker 4: effect and how Dan is one of only two guys
- 34:11Speaker 4: so since twenty ten, Dan Mullen is one of two
- 34:15Speaker 4: head coaches to improve the coach effect at three consecutive stops.
- 34:23Speaker 4: So when Dan showed up at Mississippi State, he improved
- 34:26Speaker 4: it over the guy before him. Then his coach effect
- 34:30Speaker 4: at Mississippi State.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Compared to Florida.
- 34:32Speaker 4: It was better at Florida, and albeit one year at UNLB,
- 34:36Speaker 4: that one year at UNLB was better than Florida entire time.
- 34:40Speaker 1: So he was plus coach.
- 34:42Speaker 4: Effect three consecutive stops at three consecutive programs there's only
- 34:47Speaker 4: one other guy since twenty ten. And this is why
- 34:50Speaker 4: coaching is so hard, is in college football, is in general,
- 34:54Speaker 4: is there isn't a guy that has gone up, up, up,
- 34:59Speaker 4: out side of Dan Mullen. Is one other guy that
- 35:02Speaker 4: has gone improve, improve, improve now Lank.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Kiven, and both of them coached in the state of
- 35:08Speaker 1: Mississippi at rivals Nuts. That's crazy, right, and it is.
- 35:14Speaker 4: And then you think about Lane and all of the
- 35:16Speaker 4: tribute you know, trials and tribulations he's gone through as
- 35:19Speaker 4: a head coach.
- 35:20Speaker 1: He still improved. Still, he had a negative.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Coach effect before FAU at USC, but he improved.
- 35:28Speaker 1: USC over what was there before.
- 35:30Speaker 4: Yeah, and then he gets to FAU and obviously after
- 35:34Speaker 4: the first year, boom takes off. Ole Miss after the
- 35:37Speaker 4: first year boom takes off even more.
- 35:40Speaker 1: So it is.
- 35:41Speaker 4: Extremely rare to have a head coach be able to
- 35:45Speaker 4: do that, not just at one place. It takes a
- 35:47Speaker 4: good coach to go from good to great and maintain
- 35:51Speaker 4: it like Dan did at Mississippi State, like Lane did
- 35:55Speaker 4: at ole Miss and FAU and so forth, but to
- 35:58Speaker 4: do it in three consecutive places. There's nobody else in
- 36:03Speaker 4: the FBS that has done.
- 36:05Speaker 1: It since twenty ten. Dan Mullen and Lane Kiffen one
- 36:10Speaker 1: who coached a Mississippi state won at Ole Miss. That is,
- 36:14Speaker 1: what are the odds that they come through this state
- 36:18Speaker 1: and both coach at different SEC schools within the state
- 36:23Speaker 1: of Mississippi. Part two and Jay Meadows, I mean, that's crazy.
- 36:29Speaker 1: When you threw that out yesterday, I can't even believe this.
- 36:32Speaker 1: I mean, so much of football, pro and college runs
- 36:36Speaker 1: through this state, just players and different things. But that's wild.
- 36:42Speaker 1: So yeah, two of the coaching unicorns in the state
- 36:46Speaker 1: of Mississippi, without a doubt.
- 36:49Speaker 4: In college football and all of college football. Lane Kiffin
- 36:52Speaker 4: and Dan Mullen.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Now, and both will always be a part
- 36:55Speaker 1: of the state. They will always be part of the fabric.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Their fingerprints will all always be here. They will be
- 37:01Speaker 1: mentioned forever in some way, shape or form, whether people
- 37:04Speaker 1: like them or don't like them. They had an impact
- 37:06Speaker 1: though economic now as far as there are hundreds and
- 37:08Speaker 1: hundreds of millions of dollars of impact on Start one Oxford,
- 37:12Speaker 1: that's insane. Uh, What Dan and Dak did, What Lane
- 37:15Speaker 1: and Corral, Slash Dark and Tryidad did, good gosh, just
- 37:20Speaker 1: and it was at the right time. With new media
- 37:23Speaker 1: and more access and more streaming and and all that,
- 37:27Speaker 1: you get every single game, even when you play livemon
- 37:30Speaker 1: Roe and Wafford. So it's kind of crazy, bo bounds,
- 37:33Speaker 1: Dave bar two with you coaching unicorns in this state.
- 37:36Speaker 1: I start with Lane one and Dan one A, but
- 37:39Speaker 1: they're the two best ever. And we also talked about
- 37:42Speaker 1: how player evaluation has never been more important. It's an
- 37:47Speaker 1: eye roll with some of the college football fans, but
- 37:52Speaker 1: with the portal and the you got to go so fast,
- 37:57Speaker 1: you know again. I referenced it last night, and bar
- 38:01Speaker 1: Two's talked to a million coaches over the years. I'll
- 38:04Speaker 1: never forget what Tony Hughes told me about Dan Mullen.
- 38:07Speaker 1: And Tony coached at Ole Miss, Southern Miss, and Mississippi
- 38:10Speaker 1: State and had a ton of success and was with
- 38:12Speaker 1: I don't know how many winning teams, but he said,
- 38:16Speaker 1: I have never seen anybody in the film room that
- 38:18Speaker 1: can turn on film and say, yeah, he can play.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Now he's going to play a different position, but he
- 38:24Speaker 1: can play once we get him up here and he
- 38:26Speaker 1: gets five meals a day and gets in the weight room.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Da da da da da. Dan just had a now.
- 38:32Speaker 1: And Kiffin's a hell of an evaluator too, I mean, Quinn,
- 38:35Speaker 1: Shaun Judkins. I mean, we could go on and on,
- 38:37Speaker 1: but there's a running back out of Alabama that Bama
- 38:40Speaker 1: nor Auburn wanted and Lane took him and he ended
- 38:43Speaker 1: up being a superstard. There's plenty more.
- 38:45Speaker 4: Well you look at player development, look at Signetti. Right,
- 38:48Speaker 4: do we have any better? Because I don't think a
- 38:50Speaker 4: lot of people realize Kurt Signetti kind of built some
- 38:55Speaker 4: rosters at Alabama for Nick Saban, who just yeah, you know,
- 38:59Speaker 4: kind of like you know, maybe some of the best.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Teams ever this century. Yeah, you know, and then left
- 39:06Speaker 1: to go to iupa unbelievable then Elon, then James Madison,
- 39:11Speaker 1: Dave bar Two's in the house. Check us out on
- 39:14Speaker 1: YouTube search out of Bound sports. Hey that was bar two.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Isn't that wild? That Kiffen and Mullen are the only
- 39:23Speaker 1: two coaches since twenty ten to improve coach effect at
- 39:29Speaker 1: three different stops. Wild? I just that and both of
- 39:35Speaker 1: them end up coaching in the state at rival schools.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Is insane. When he told me that, I went, what
- 39:45Speaker 1: And now, once you think about it and you start
- 39:48Speaker 1: to roll through what the two of them did. You're like, oh,
- 39:50Speaker 1: that makes sense. But Lane and Mullen will always be
- 39:56Speaker 1: tied in here because of their because they were he
- 40:00Speaker 1: and had success. I mean guys that come through and
- 40:02Speaker 1: don't do any I mean Rick Ray and Matt Luke.
- 40:05Speaker 1: I mean, people are you know, you're not going to
- 40:07Speaker 1: do any kind of deep dive there. But the the
- 40:13Speaker 1: the impact from from Kiffin and Mullen is just extraordinary.
- 40:19Speaker 1: And here they are still coach. Of course Lane's at
- 40:22Speaker 1: the Big Boy and this is where they both jumped
- 40:24Speaker 1: off And wouldn't this wouldn't this be considered both of
- 40:27Speaker 1: their like platform places where they just jumped smooth. I
- 40:32Speaker 1: mean that you know Lane had doesn't go he had
- 40:34Speaker 1: coached before. Obviously Dandy coached before. Well you never had
- 40:37Speaker 1: coached before. But this was their coming out party was
- 40:40Speaker 1: in Mississippi, both of them. Well Lane had already had
- 40:43Speaker 1: a coming out party at Southern cal h as they
- 40:47Speaker 1: head coach. So he was a he was a big
- 40:50Speaker 1: you know, known name. I mean, Mullin got a little
- 40:53Speaker 1: bit of buzz and love right at the end basically
- 40:58Speaker 1: before Greg Burne interviewed. But that last season, I guess
- 41:03Speaker 1: Dan got a little bit out from underneath Urban Shadow.
- 41:06Speaker 1: But that was still before we were really talking about
- 41:11Speaker 1: offensive coordinators and defensive coordinators. When did that happen shortly thereafter?
- 41:17Speaker 1: But yeah, the last fifteen years, you know, we we've
- 41:22Speaker 1: done more of that as Kirby Smart was at Alabama
