- 1:54Speaker 5: dive into the horror. We open the show with an
- 1:58Speaker 5: email submission from Hannah featuring voice work by Danuda Marie,
- 2:03Speaker 5: and we try to reconcile the experiences in the house.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I've been deciding for some time now whether to share this,
- 2:16Speaker 2: but I've been listening to Disturb for quite some time
- 2:19Speaker 2: and I love the podcast. After thinking about it for
- 2:23Speaker 2: a couple of weeks, I've decided to share my experiences
- 2:27Speaker 2: for starters. MY name is Hannah and this story happened
- 2:31Speaker 2: to me about ten years ago when I was eleven.
- 2:34Speaker 2: My family consists of my parents, my older sister, and
- 2:38Speaker 2: then my younger sister. We moved into an old farmhouse
- 2:41Speaker 2: in twenty eleven. When I say old, I mean this
- 2:45Speaker 2: house was built before the Civil War type of old.
- 2:49Speaker 2: It has wood floors and creeks at night. I have
- 2:52Speaker 2: always been a horror fan, as has my older sister,
- 2:55Speaker 2: who will call Tanya. My younger sister I'll call Rachel
- 3:00Speaker 2: has always hated horror and anything scary, So you can
- 3:04Speaker 2: imagine the pranks Tanya and I pulled on her. I
- 3:06Speaker 2: promise this is relevant to the story. Upon moving into
- 3:10Speaker 2: this house, I have always felt weird being here. It
- 3:14Speaker 2: feels like there is a heavy weight about it. Many
- 3:18Speaker 2: times we will hear footsteps when no one is there,
- 3:21Speaker 2: or we will hear banging on walls when no one
- 3:23Speaker 2: is around. Furthermore, Rachel had a toy yanked out of
- 3:27Speaker 2: her hand by some invisible force. My parents never believed
- 3:32Speaker 2: us about the things we were experiencing. This went on
- 3:35Speaker 2: for the first year we moved into the house. In
- 3:38Speaker 2: the unfinished basement of our house, there are four rooms.
- 3:41Speaker 2: The first is filled with boxes, the second holds the
- 3:45Speaker 2: water heater and such. The third has gravel on the
- 3:48Speaker 2: floor instead of dirt, and the fourth room is to
- 3:50Speaker 2: the left of the third, also with gravel flooring. This
- 3:54Speaker 2: is important to note. There is a half broken stone
- 3:58Speaker 2: wall between the second and third room with black writing
- 4:01Speaker 2: and symbols on it. Also, there is an old wooden
- 4:05Speaker 2: door with carvings on the front and sides that was
- 4:08Speaker 2: left by the old homeowners. The basement made me feel
- 4:13Speaker 2: very uncomfortable, and I felt like I was being watched
- 4:17Speaker 2: when I went down there. My dog wouldn't even go
- 4:20Speaker 2: down there. One day during the summer, while both my
- 4:23Speaker 2: parents were at work, I was watching the show Ghost
- 4:26Speaker 2: Adventures with Tanya and we decided to see if we
- 4:29Speaker 2: could evoke a response from something in our house. Since
- 4:31Speaker 2: we all knew something wasn't right. Rachel agreed to participate
- 4:36Speaker 2: with us on the stipulation that we wouldn't purposely scare her.
- 4:40Speaker 2: We agreed and locked our dogs up so nothing would
- 4:42Speaker 2: intervene or cause us to hear something that was caused
- 4:45Speaker 2: by our dogs. Now we are the only three home
- 4:49Speaker 2: and no one else's due home for several hours. We
- 4:52Speaker 2: grabbed Tanya's camera to record one flashlight and open the
- 4:56Speaker 2: door to our cellar.
- 4:58Speaker 5: We keep all the.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Lights off and stumbled down the stairs into the first room.
- 5:02Speaker 2: It is completely pitch black and we can't even see
- 5:05Speaker 2: our hands in front of our faces until I turned
- 5:08Speaker 2: the flashlight on. Rachel hides behind Tanya, who hides behind me,
- 5:13Speaker 2: even though she was seventeen at the time. I stepped
- 5:16Speaker 2: forward as my heart pounded in my chest. I called
- 5:20Speaker 2: out if anything was there, not expecting anything, but still hopeful.
- 5:25Speaker 2: We waited nothing, hearts beating, breathing, scarce still nothing. Suddenly
- 5:34Speaker 2: there was shuffling along the gravel floor in the third room.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Everything inside my body stopped. As I shined the flashlight
- 5:41Speaker 2: into the room trying to see something. Rachel grabbed my
- 5:45Speaker 2: arm and hissed, stop missing around. I didn't even turn
- 5:49Speaker 2: my head to look at her, but instead whispered back, Rachel,
- 5:52Speaker 2: that's not me, I haven't moved. I stepped forward and
- 5:55Speaker 2: called out timidly Hello. The shuffling stopped. I thought I
- 6:00Speaker 2: had imagined it, But then why did Rachel hear it too?
- 6:05Speaker 2: I leaned against the cool brick wall and struggled to
- 6:07Speaker 2: peer into the room, trying to see if I could
- 6:09Speaker 2: spot something anything. I was afraid to move forward just
- 6:13Speaker 2: in case there was something. Then I heard a whizzing sound,
- 6:18Speaker 2: like something flying through the air. A large brick landed
- 6:22Speaker 2: at my feet in the dirt. I stumbled backwards when
- 6:25Speaker 2: suddenly there was loud, quick shuffling coming towards us at
- 6:28Speaker 2: a rapid pace. I moved my flashlight around rapidly, trying
- 6:32Speaker 2: to spot what moved, while backing up hastily into my
- 6:35Speaker 2: sisters Lee basically trampled each other as we struggled to
- 6:38Speaker 2: get back up the stairs and slam the door shut.
- 6:41Speaker 2: My heart was racing, and Rachel was crying. She was
- 6:44Speaker 2: convinced we did this all to scare her. But Tania's
- 6:47Speaker 2: face was white, and I knew I looked similar. Then
- 6:51Speaker 2: I remembered the camera. I grabbed it and opened the
- 6:55Speaker 2: video we had taken. All three of us studied it
- 6:58Speaker 2: when something came across the stream that made my blood
- 7:01Speaker 2: turn to ice. Walking through the doorframe of our third
- 7:05Speaker 2: room was a white figure. It looked like it was
- 7:08Speaker 2: made of mist. The brick was even seen flying from
- 7:11Speaker 2: that room towards us. Rachel cried louder and told us
- 7:15Speaker 2: to turn it off. I was terrified that evening. Rachel
- 7:19Speaker 2: told our mom, and she made us to leave the video,
- 7:21Speaker 2: telling us to stop scaring our sensitive younger sister. There
- 7:25Speaker 2: have been many other experiences in this house I have
- 7:28Speaker 2: been through, such as a tall, dark figure standing in
- 7:31Speaker 2: the corner of my room, or hearing running steps throughout
- 7:34Speaker 2: the house. I refuse to go down into the cellar
- 7:37Speaker 2: without my dad or someone else. I am twenty one now,
- 7:40Speaker 2: and my family still lives in the house, and I
- 7:43Speaker 2: stay here when I'm not at college. There are still
- 7:46Speaker 2: mysterious happenings in this house. Recently I found out that
- 7:50Speaker 2: a girl died in this house, and there is not
- 7:52Speaker 2: much known about the other children who used to live here.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Even at twenty one, I still find it difficult to
- 7:59Speaker 2: sleep at night in this sad house. There are old
- 8:02Speaker 2: photos of the children in the cellar, and the black
- 8:04Speaker 2: writing on the walls won't go away. I look forward
- 8:08Speaker 2: to the day I can move out, when I won't
- 8:10Speaker 2: live in a house where a little girl mysteriously died.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Are you listening alone? Rather? Brave of you?
- 8:30Speaker 5: Next up, we check in with Reddit users slum for
- 8:32Speaker 5: twenty one, featuring voice work by Matt Bradford, and we
- 8:37Speaker 5: gain a new habit.
- 8:47Speaker 3: From when I was about eleven to fourteen years old,
- 8:50Speaker 3: I had a best friend named Spencer. Spencer had a
- 8:53Speaker 3: decent sized family and a big house. We hung out
- 8:56Speaker 3: practically NonStop outside of school, and he was home and
- 9:00Speaker 3: I was in public school, and during the summer I
- 9:03Speaker 3: practically lived at their house. Now, Spencer had an older
- 9:06Speaker 3: brother named Keenan. Keenan was about five years older than him,
- 9:10Speaker 3: and I thought he hung the moon. He was so cool.
- 9:13Speaker 3: He listened to great music and played guitar and I
- 9:16Speaker 3: always wanted to be around him. One summer, when I
- 9:19Speaker 3: was thirteen, Keenan went to summer camp. He was supposed
- 9:22Speaker 3: to visit the Grand Canyon and go kayaking and do
- 9:24Speaker 3: a ton of fun stuff.
- 9:26Speaker 1: We were jealous.
- 9:27Speaker 3: It was weird not having him around all the time,
- 9:29Speaker 3: since I basically stayed at their house the entire time. Finally,
- 9:33Speaker 3: the day came where Spencer's dad was supposed to go
- 9:36Speaker 3: to the airport to pick Keenan up. He were super
- 9:38Speaker 3: stoked to hear all about camp. So his dad drove
- 9:42Speaker 3: up and he ran downstairs to greet them, and we
- 9:45Speaker 3: didn't see Keenan. His dad had tears running down his
- 9:49Speaker 3: face and he exclaimed, he didn't make it. He didn't
- 9:53Speaker 3: make it, you guys. My heart dropped into my stomach
- 9:56Speaker 3: and I started to panic, and Keenan walked up right
- 9:59Speaker 3: behind behind him and they both started laughing. It was
- 10:02Speaker 3: a huge dick move. Anyway, We helped him unload his
- 10:06Speaker 3: luggage and stayed up until midnight talking about his summer.
- 10:10Speaker 3: He had so much to say. He said he had
- 10:12Speaker 3: the time of his life and told us all about
- 10:14Speaker 3: how he almost went overboard while water rafting, and how
- 10:17Speaker 3: he surely would have drowned if he did. As two
- 10:20Speaker 3: thirteen year old boys, we were enamored by Keenan and
- 10:23Speaker 3: everything he did. We talked about, oh, Spencer and I
- 10:26Speaker 3: were going to go to the same camp once we
- 10:27Speaker 3: turned eighteen. It had been a long day and it
- 10:30Speaker 3: was time for all of us to go to bed.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Keenan told us he would tell us more in the morning.
- 10:35Speaker 3: When we woke up, I had fallen asleep been awoken
- 10:38Speaker 3: in a cold sweat because of a nightmare I had
- 10:41Speaker 3: in my dream. Spencer and I went about our entire
- 10:44Speaker 3: day just as we had before, except when their dad
- 10:47Speaker 3: showed up and joked about Keenan dying on his trip.
- 10:50Speaker 3: He actually did die. This is practically my idol, and
- 10:54Speaker 3: the dream was so vivid I needed to go get
- 10:56Speaker 3: some water just to calm myself down. Afterwards, checked my
- 11:00Speaker 3: phone before I headed to the kitchen, and it was
- 11:02Speaker 3: three thirty am. The house was so dark, and I
- 11:05Speaker 3: had to tiptoe to be quiet and make sure not
- 11:07Speaker 3: to wake anyone up. As I walked through the den
- 11:11Speaker 3: on my way to the kitchen, I see the moonlight
- 11:14Speaker 3: spilling into the living room, the only light in the house.
- 11:18Speaker 3: I see what I think is a large silhouette, and
- 11:22Speaker 3: as I get closer and my eyes adjust, I see
- 11:25Speaker 3: Keenan hanging from the ceiling fan. I freak out and
- 11:29Speaker 3: run across the room in a dead sprint and turn
- 11:32Speaker 3: on the light to see if my eyes were deceiving me.
- 11:35Speaker 3: It was him, except he was sleeping and standing in
- 11:39Speaker 3: the middle of the room underneath the fan with one
- 11:41Speaker 3: of his arms raised straight up over his head. I
- 11:45Speaker 3: never knew Keenan to sleep walk before, and luckily he
- 11:48Speaker 3: snapped out of it before I tried to wake him up.
- 11:51Speaker 3: He looked at me, super confused, looked around and noticed
- 11:55Speaker 3: where he was and said, oh, yeah, I forgot to
- 11:58Speaker 3: tell you guys, I guess I developed a bit of
- 12:00Speaker 3: a sleepwalking habited camp.

- 12:35Speaker 5: Disturbed is brought to you by the Generation Why podcast.
- 12:38Speaker 6: Now.
- 12:38Speaker 5: This is a podcast that I've really been getting into
- 12:41Speaker 5: during the pandemic, and for good reason. Hosts Justin and
- 12:44Speaker 5: Aaron do such a fantastic job digging deep for answers
- 12:47Speaker 5: to cases of true crime and unsolved murders. Now, what
- 12:50Speaker 5: I believe that really sets them apart is their attention
- 12:53Speaker 5: to detail. A lot of podcasts out there you listen to,
- 12:55Speaker 5: we'll just read off a Wikipedia page about a murder case,
- 12:58Speaker 5: and that may be fine for some, but real true
- 13:01Speaker 5: crime fans want the important details and all the facts.
- 13:04Speaker 5: In addition to that, Justin and Aaron give their own
- 13:06Speaker 5: perspectives and aren't afraid to say what they really think.
- 13:09Speaker 5: They also ask the hard questions and take different perspectives
- 13:12Speaker 5: that the listener will really appreciate. Take, for instance, the
- 13:15Speaker 5: case of Lourie DuPont. This is one I just finished
- 13:18Speaker 5: listening to and it absolutely infuriated me. Laurie was a
- 13:21Speaker 5: well respected thirty seven year old nurse and single mother.
- 13:24Speaker 5: She would go on to meet a physician named Mark
- 13:26Speaker 5: Daniel at the hospital where they both worked. Two of
- 13:29Speaker 5: them would hit it off and begin a secret relationship
- 13:31Speaker 5: because Mark was still technically married, But after not too long,
- 13:35Speaker 5: the romance cooled and Mark would start harassing Laurie at
- 13:38Speaker 5: the hospital. As it turned out, Mark had a history
- 13:40Speaker 5: of dating and being abusive towards nurses. Laurie would file
- 13:43Speaker 5: a restraining order, but before a judge could issue it.
- 13:46Speaker 5: Mark would enter the hospital with some military sword and
- 13:49Speaker 5: commit an unthinkable crime. And I cannot even begin to
- 13:53Speaker 5: tell you how upsetting this is because of all the
- 13:55Speaker 5: avoidable failures along the way. Time and time again, the
- 13:59Speaker 5: hospital and people in charge of keeping a safe work
- 14:01Speaker 5: environment would fail Laurie. The way this episode is presented
- 14:04Speaker 5: is really well done and walks you through everything Laurie
- 14:07Speaker 5: had to go through. It's honestly a must listen episode.

- 14:23Speaker 1: Now back to the deliciously Frightful Disturbed podcast with your
- 14:29Speaker 1: host Chad.
- 14:34Speaker 6: Up.
- 14:35Speaker 5: Next as an email submission from Hannah featuring voice work
- 14:38Speaker 5: by Marianna Bradford. And we just might need a little
- 14:41Speaker 5: more home security.
- 14:51Speaker 4: I was a junior in high school at the time,
- 14:53Speaker 4: sixteen seventeen year old, typical rebellious teen with an older
- 14:56Speaker 4: eighteen year old's boyfriend who had his own apartment. As
- 15:00Speaker 4: an eight teen girl, would I lied to my parents
- 15:02Speaker 4: on a regular basis, telling them I'd be sleeping at
- 15:04Speaker 4: a friend's house when really I was staying at my boyfriend's.
- 15:08Speaker 4: I'm sure they knew that, but that's beside the point.
- 15:11Speaker 4: And one day I came home from my boyfriend's, and
- 15:13Speaker 4: I think it must have been a Saturday, because I
- 15:15Speaker 4: didn't have school that day. I opened the side door
- 15:18Speaker 4: that would lead into my parents' garage. Now, something to
- 15:22Speaker 4: say about my parents' house is that there was multiple
- 15:24Speaker 4: cars in the driveway at any given time, my mom's,
- 15:28Speaker 4: my dad's, my brothers, mine, and an suv my daddy's
- 15:31Speaker 4: for hunting. Now, when I entered the garage, I saw
- 15:34Speaker 4: BB gun pellets built all over the floor, and at
- 15:37Speaker 4: the time, I just thought my brother made the mess
- 15:39Speaker 4: and my dad was going to come home and be
- 15:41Speaker 4: furious at him for leaving it there. So I go
- 15:44Speaker 4: inside and I don't give a second thought to the
- 15:46Speaker 4: BB gun pellets at the time. My parents had three dogs,
- 15:49Speaker 4: all small, very obvious when someone came into the house,
- 15:53Speaker 4: as all three would start barking at once. My room
- 15:56Speaker 4: was right across the hall from the laundry room, the
- 15:59Speaker 4: room that you walk in when you enter through the garage.
- 16:02Speaker 4: I say hello to the dogs, go to the front
- 16:04Speaker 4: of the house and let them all outside. When I
- 16:07Speaker 4: entered my bedroom. I saw my bedroom window was slightly
- 16:10Speaker 4: open and that my comforter was hanging haphazardly out of it. Again,
- 16:15Speaker 4: I just assumed my brother had maybe snuck in through
- 16:17Speaker 4: my window the night before. I pull the comforter in
- 16:21Speaker 4: and shut the window. I go and let all the
- 16:23Speaker 4: dogs in and go back to my parents' master bedroom
- 16:26Speaker 4: in the back of the house to take a shower.
- 16:28Speaker 4: Take my shower, and as I go back into my
- 16:30Speaker 4: room to get dressed, I open my underwear drawer to
- 16:33Speaker 4: find it completely empty. No underwear, no bras, no bathing suits, nothing.
- 16:42Speaker 4: All of the blood drains from my body, and I
- 16:45Speaker 4: suddenly realized there's something very, very wrong here. I immediately
- 16:49Speaker 4: call my mom in hysterics. I'm surprised she could even
- 16:53Speaker 4: understand what I was saying through my terrified sobs. She
- 16:57Speaker 4: tells me to get dressed as fast as possible, get
- 17:00Speaker 4: the fuck out of the house. My mom calls nine
- 17:03Speaker 4: one one and her best friend, who could get to
- 17:05Speaker 4: my house faster than my mom could from work. So
- 17:08Speaker 4: here I am cold, wet, and trembling outside my house.
- 17:12Speaker 4: When my mom's best friend and the sheriff show up,
- 17:15Speaker 4: I hug my mom's friend and wouldn't let her let
- 17:18Speaker 4: me go until my mom got there. The sheriff goes in,
- 17:21Speaker 4: guns drawn and clears the house. He asks me the
- 17:25Speaker 4: typical questions, do you know why anyone would do this?
- 17:28Speaker 4: Do you have any upset ex boyfriends, etc? I of
- 17:32Speaker 4: course tell him no, and that is pretty much the
- 17:35Speaker 4: end of it. My mom takes me to get newbras
- 17:38Speaker 4: and underwear that night and lets me stay the night
- 17:40Speaker 4: at my boyfriend's apartment just to feel safe. Fast forward
- 17:44Speaker 4: two weeks later and another girl down the street from
- 17:46Speaker 4: my house has the same thing happened to her, someone
- 17:49Speaker 4: broke in and still all arounderwear too. Two more weeks
- 17:53Speaker 4: go by and a girl that lives off of a
- 17:55Speaker 4: rural road the kind that you would really need to
- 17:58Speaker 4: know where you are going to get to, and the
- 18:01Speaker 4: same thing underwear stolen along with some jewelry. Come to
- 18:06Speaker 4: find out, this asshole's father finds the jewelry and calls
- 18:09Speaker 4: the cops to report it. As they're investigating, he admits
- 18:13Speaker 4: that he broke into our homes and stole all of
- 18:15Speaker 4: our underwear. They go to his mother's home, which mind you,
- 18:19Speaker 4: is three doors down from my house, and they find
- 18:23Speaker 4: all the underwear in a duffel bag, which means that
- 18:26Speaker 4: this guy was watching my house to see who drove
- 18:28Speaker 4: what car and when the best time would be to
- 18:31Speaker 4: execute this plan. Mind you, my father is an avid
- 18:35Speaker 4: hunter and a butcher by trade. I can't imagine what
- 18:38Speaker 4: would have happened if this man broke in while we
- 18:40Speaker 4: were home, or what could have happened to me if
- 18:43Speaker 4: I were home alone when this happened. From what the
- 18:46Speaker 4: police told my family, he had a drug dealer at
- 18:48Speaker 4: the time request for women's underwear as payment for drugs. Yeah,
- 18:53Speaker 4: you got that right, used women's underwear for drugs. The
- 18:58Speaker 4: cops asked if we wanted our stuff back and learn
- 19:01Speaker 4: quickly that all three of us wanted nothing to do
- 19:04Speaker 4: with any of that. I can't remember exactly what happened,
- 19:07Speaker 4: but he did go to jail for this, so needless
- 19:11Speaker 4: to say, I'm a little uneasy now as an adult
- 19:14Speaker 4: being home alone. I check every window, every door, look
- 19:18Speaker 4: under every bed, and check behind every shower curtain.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Are you loving the show? Let us know with a
- 19:37Speaker 1: positive rating and review. In return, we'll help you hide
- 19:41Speaker 1: the body.
- 19:48Speaker 6: Now.
- 19:48Speaker 5: Up next is a listener submission from Kira via the
- 19:51Speaker 5: hotline at Disturbed podcast dot com. Slash hotline free and
- 19:55Speaker 5: available to all listeners. And this one comes with the
- 19:57Speaker 5: warning containing descriptions of graphic domestic abuse. So if that's
- 20:01Speaker 5: something you're sensitive to or just don't want to hear,
- 20:04Speaker 5: you might want to skip ahead about four and a
- 20:06Speaker 5: half minutes. But I believe it's an important experience to
- 20:08Speaker 5: hear and could potentially help some listeners out there, so
- 20:11Speaker 5: be warned. This one may be difficult to listen to,
- 20:14Speaker 5: but Carrie is a very important message, So Kira take
- 20:17Speaker 5: it away.
- 20:20Speaker 6: I've been a listener for quite a while and really
- 20:24Speaker 6: like your show. I don't really know if I count
- 20:27Speaker 6: because it wasn't so much creepy of a story, but
- 20:31Speaker 6: it was scary for me. And I mean like date
- 20:34Speaker 6: lighten type stuff like Keith moorsh Morrison should have popped
- 20:38Speaker 6: out of the corner. I was in an abusive relationship
- 20:41Speaker 6: for three years, and I mean physically abusive, along with others,
- 20:46Speaker 6: of course, but the physical was extreme. He would strangle me,
- 20:51Speaker 6: break my ribs, break my nose, whip me with the cord,
- 20:56Speaker 6: cut my leg open, burn me with a lighter, that
- 21:01Speaker 6: kind of stuff for three years. There's two events that
- 21:04Speaker 6: really stick out in my mind as terrifying, one of
- 21:09Speaker 6: which I had literally just finished Minds of Madness, a
- 21:14Speaker 6: true kind of show, and I get a notification on
- 21:19Speaker 6: my video camera and it was my ex's car in
- 21:24Speaker 6: my driveway. I come outside and I don't see him.
- 21:29Speaker 6: I just see the car. So I sit down to
- 21:31Speaker 6: have a cigarette, and sure enough, he comes up to
- 21:37Speaker 6: me and starts strangling me, pulled me into the house
- 21:40Speaker 6: and brutally attacked me, almost killed me, and at one
- 21:46Speaker 6: point I was so tired of the torture that I
- 21:48Speaker 6: begged for him to kill me. The other one that
- 21:52Speaker 6: stands out is back in June, I had broken up
- 21:55Speaker 6: with him. I was at a movie theater and he
- 21:59Speaker 6: said something that made me think, okay, he's going to
- 22:01Speaker 6: break into my house. So I went home. I didn't
- 22:04Speaker 6: see him. I was out on the street, and then
- 22:07Speaker 6: all of a sudden, out of nowhere people around in
- 22:10Speaker 6: broad daylight, he puts me over his shoulder and starts
- 22:14Speaker 6: dragging me to my house. I kicked him off, or
- 22:18Speaker 6: me off, I guess, but ran back to the street
- 22:21Speaker 6: and he grabbed me again, dragged me to the stairs,
- 22:25Speaker 6: up the stairs, got into my house and then pulled
- 22:28Speaker 6: me by my hair while beating me. I mean my face.
- 22:34Speaker 6: He was hitting my face, he was hitting my body,
- 22:38Speaker 6: dragging me by my hair. I thought he was going
- 22:41Speaker 6: to kill me. I thought to myself, if you are
- 22:45Speaker 6: going to do this, I'm gonna make sure you don't
- 22:47Speaker 6: get away with it. And so I scratched his face
- 22:50Speaker 6: as hard as I could. He spit on my face
- 22:53Speaker 6: and rubbed it in and then continued beating me until
- 22:56Speaker 6: I told him he was going to kill me. First reason.
- 23:00Speaker 6: I don't know if he got tired or bored, but
- 23:04Speaker 6: he kicked me two times, one on my side and
- 23:07Speaker 6: one of my back and left just like that. Police
- 23:11Speaker 6: we're going to charge him with tempted murder, kidnapping, false imprisonment,
- 23:16Speaker 6: and battery, but they dropped the charges. And yeah, I
- 23:21Speaker 6: never really recovered from that. I looked like I had
- 23:25Speaker 6: gotten into a car accident. But now I try and
- 23:29Speaker 6: share my story where I can to help other people
- 23:33Speaker 6: who go through this kind of stuff feel understood, not
- 23:37Speaker 6: so alone, I guess. And I'm a strangulation expert at
- 23:41Speaker 6: a domestic violence center, so I'll take the good. But
- 23:47Speaker 6: there's no fear like looking at the person you love
- 23:51Speaker 6: while they kill you.
- 23:57Speaker 5: A big thanks to Kira for sharing her story. And
- 24:00Speaker 5: if you or someone you know is suffering from domestic abuse,
- 24:03Speaker 5: help is available. You can call the National Domestic Violence
- 24:06Speaker 5: Hotline at one eight hundred seven ninety nine safe. That's
- 24:10Speaker 5: one eight hundred seven nine nine seven two three three.
- 24:21Speaker 5: And we finish up with an email submission from Cheyenne
- 24:25Speaker 5: featuring voice work by Nicole Dulan, and we learn the
- 24:28Speaker 5: terrible truth And as a trigger warning, this story contains
- 24:32Speaker 5: mention of sexual abuse.
- 24:44Speaker 7: I live in a small town in northeast Ohio and
- 24:47Speaker 7: this was back in twenty seventeen. I was twenty years
- 24:51Speaker 7: old and my daughter was about six months old at
- 24:54Speaker 7: the time, me, my daughter, and her father mine now
- 24:59Speaker 7: ex head. He just moved into a new apartment. It
- 25:02Speaker 7: was a big house that was cut into four apartments.
- 25:06Speaker 7: There was a hallway both upstairs and downstairs that went
- 25:08Speaker 7: from the back of the house to the front that
- 25:11Speaker 7: split the house right down the middle. There were also
- 25:14Speaker 7: porches out back, upstairs and downstairs, and the upstairs had
- 25:19Speaker 7: steps leading up to theirs. This is important, I promise.
- 25:24Speaker 7: We moved in around April of twenty seventeen. We lived
- 25:29Speaker 7: in the bottom left, the bottom right was empty, the
- 25:33Speaker 7: top right had a woman, her fiance, her two young daughters,
- 25:37Speaker 7: ages seven and nine, and her youngest, a son, age five,
- 25:42Speaker 7: And the top left apartment was an older man who
- 25:46Speaker 7: turned out to be the father of the man and
- 25:48Speaker 7: the other upstairs apartment. Me, my boyfriend, and the guy
- 25:52Speaker 7: that was living with his fiance and her children. All
- 25:55Speaker 7: eventually introduced ourselves. He was a very friendly guy, His
- 26:00Speaker 7: girlfriend was a little quiet, and the kids were always
- 26:03Speaker 7: so friendly and loved coming out to see my daughter
- 26:07Speaker 7: when I would have her in our small backyard, playing
- 26:09Speaker 7: or anything. I was a stay at home mom at
- 26:12Speaker 7: the time, so in the mornings, after I laid my
- 26:15Speaker 7: daughter down for a nap, I would grab my coffee
- 26:18Speaker 7: and baby monitor, and wo'd go in the upstairs hallway
- 26:21Speaker 7: and smoke quick with my neighbor, the man we will
- 26:25Speaker 7: call him Mark. We would usually just have random conversations.
- 26:30Speaker 7: Sometimes he would just say some weird and at times
- 26:33Speaker 7: perverted things, but him or his fiance didn't seem happy,
- 26:38Speaker 7: and I thought he was just being a man. He
- 26:41Speaker 7: was in his early to mid thirties. One day, MARKA
- 26:44Speaker 7: told me that a pub he worked for was looking
- 26:46Speaker 7: for some extra help. He was a bar back there
- 26:50Speaker 7: and the other bar back had just quit, so he
- 26:53Speaker 7: was working seven nights a week. Long story short, I
- 26:57Speaker 7: ended up getting a job there as another bar back,
- 27:00Speaker 7: so the nights he didn't work, I did. One summer night.
- 27:05Speaker 7: I can't remember how, but we both ended up having
- 27:09Speaker 7: the night off and were supposed to go to our
- 27:11Speaker 7: work and grab a quick drink. He kept trying to
- 27:14Speaker 7: convince me to skip going out to the pub and
- 27:17Speaker 7: that he had buddies not too far away where we
- 27:19Speaker 7: could go and have a bonfire and get really messed up.
- 27:23Speaker 7: I just kept telling him that was okay, and I
- 27:26Speaker 7: was really looking forward to going.
- 27:27Speaker 5: To the pub.
- 27:29Speaker 7: I really liked all of my coworkers and the pub
- 27:31Speaker 7: had great food. Plus I just wanted to stay close
- 27:34Speaker 7: to home in case my boyfriend at the time needed
- 27:36Speaker 7: help with our daughter. But one of his fiance's kids
- 27:40Speaker 7: weren't feeling well or something, so he ended up canceling.
- 27:44Speaker 7: A couple of nights later, he shows up at our
- 27:46Speaker 7: back door and asks if we wanted to smoke real quick.
- 27:50Speaker 7: Our daughter was down for bed, so we said sure.
- 27:53Speaker 7: He seemed upset and like he needed to talk. He
- 27:56Speaker 7: told us about how his fiancee had took the kids
- 27:59Speaker 7: and just step left. We let him get it all
- 28:02Speaker 7: out and comforted him, and he went home. A day
- 28:05Speaker 7: or two later, my sister came over to see our
- 28:08Speaker 7: new apartment and her niece. She wasn't there, but only
- 28:12Speaker 7: for a few minutes before we heard a bunch of
- 28:13Speaker 7: banging from upstairs. We stepped out front to see what
- 28:17Speaker 7: was going on and saw the detective unit in hazmat's
- 28:21Speaker 7: suits breaking down our upstairs neighbor's door. Yes, Mark and
- 28:26Speaker 7: his fiancees. We saw them carrying out stuff from the apartment,
- 28:30Speaker 7: and not soon after my sister had to take off.
- 28:34Speaker 7: Then my phone rang. It was my manager at the pub.
- 28:38Speaker 7: She asked if there was any way I would be
- 28:40Speaker 7: able to come in because Mark had just been arrested.
- 28:43Speaker 7: I got ready and went into work. My first question,
- 28:47Speaker 7: what the fuck's going on? My boss said there was
- 28:50Speaker 7: a huge investigation going on, and all he can say
- 28:53Speaker 7: is quote, the bastard should hang. A couple weeks go
- 28:58Speaker 7: by and the story is finally out. He had been
- 29:01Speaker 7: trying to buy rufies online, more than likely to use
- 29:04Speaker 7: on his co workers at the bar. Myself included. My
- 29:09Speaker 7: first thought went to the night we were supposed to
- 29:11Speaker 7: go out drinking and how he kept trying to get
- 29:13Speaker 7: me to go out to his buddies, but when I declined,
- 29:17Speaker 7: he ended up having to bail. But that wasn't all,
- 29:21Speaker 7: And as a mother to a beautiful little girl, this
- 29:24Speaker 7: breaks my heart to say he had been raping his
- 29:28Speaker 7: fiance's two daughters and possibly the sun as well. He
- 29:32Speaker 7: got twenty years in prison, ten years for each of
- 29:36Speaker 7: the poor girls. I thank God every day that I
- 29:39Speaker 7: am a protective mother and never let him babysit my
- 29:42Speaker 7: girl like he also always used to offer. But one
- 29:46Speaker 7: question that still haunts me. Though his fiancee was also
- 29:50Speaker 7: a stay at home mom and a rape victim for
- 29:53Speaker 7: when she was younger, There's no way she didn't know,
- 29:57Speaker 7: and I believe she should be in prison as well.
- 30:00Speaker 7: But to the poor children, I am so sorry you
- 30:04Speaker 7: had to go through everything you did and I hope
- 30:07Speaker 7: you are safe now. But to the mother and especially Mark,
- 30:12Speaker 7: I hope we never meet again.
