- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's up everybody, welcome in.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: So here's what I'm going to say podcast, dry-chamined, Carson Field, Carson.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: We are out here.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: If you're watching the YouTube, none of us post podcasts here at the Omni Inn at Atlanta, but we have found one, we have made it.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: And we have experienced, we've survived Carson as you see me these days.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's day four right now.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: What is it?
- 0:33[SPEAKER_01]: Arkansas, and who else is Texas A&M?
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: And now, yeah, Texas A&M and Arkansas, kicking off the afternoon slate, fortunately for Carson, we're missing Texas A&M, but we did it day three, Oklahoma.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: They spoke Carson, they spoke Florida.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't see me these days.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: It was good to hear from these people we have heard from in months.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: It was good to hear Brent.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: Benables take on how the offseason went.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: Some of the newcomers like John Matier, namely, two of the better and the fenders.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: It was just kind of good to hear even if nothing truly groundbreaking came out from these quotes.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: Just kind of neat to hear some new perspectives about how everything went and how everything is leading up to the season.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, first two days.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: I've done a lot going down.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: Not a lot going down.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, arch arch arrived.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: Arch was here.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: Arch is doing thing.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was a zoo.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: Jonathan here actually got some like decent love on the SEC.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: We need a desk, all that stuff with five bonuses.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: Now all that, but let's just dive in.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: You weren't in the small scrum for local media stuff like that, but
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: Talk to Brett Vittables and two or three of these first off.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: He had comments about joke sickly illness or time and all that stuff.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: He gave in nearly six minute answer from the stage, which was broadcast live on SEC network.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: But the things I thought were most interesting.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: First off, Giovanni Gibson injury update.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: Brett Vittables is like, I'm not given a mega massive injury update or anything like that because he wants to get those guys more scaled into
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, are they full speed at practice?
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: Stuff like that, but he did say that Shimani Gibson's out of the boot.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's good news on schedule.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: No setbacks there.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: He then was like, we'll do the big slew imagery updates as they kind of come and go.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: Drops.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: fall camp.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: So, not a lot there, but he got into Jim Nagy and how that's gone.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: And we've talked to Adnaz who about that, right?
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: As far as Jim Nagy getting the recruiting class go on for the twenty twenty six cycle.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: But that was one of those things where we've talked about it.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: Jim Nagy got a late on that and Brent Metables said multiple times what would it be on the main stage or
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: in the small scrum that he has full belief that that would be a well-oiled machine.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: And part of that's just having to get your nagging his staff used to their recruiting side of things, right?
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: But they're so used to dealing with
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: draft-elegical age guys, which it may be like, hey, a twenty-two-year-old, twenty-three-year-old, that's a huge difference from the sixteen, seventeen, eighteen-year-olds in high school recruiting.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: So, Brett Vibble's not worried about that, and, man, he talked about that on the podium, he talked about that with us.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think he talked about that back and there's one other room that they've been in.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, and you'd now he was out and about, unfortunately, I never really crossed paths, which have naggy, but that was kind of like a two or three of the really, really big things immediately off the rate from Brent Metables.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no definitely.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: One thing, I have no idea if Brent Vittables is speaking truth when he says this, but he made a comment about he and his staff are trying to retain Jackson Arnold.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: That was one of the more shocking things I did here from OU's coach and player availability is just kind of judging on how last season went.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: Wanting to keep Arnold instead of getting a guy like material.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he's saying to serve as a backup rule too, a guy like John Davis.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: It was never in stat.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think so too, but it was still interesting, like
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: with Mike Hawkins being a pretty reliable backup like that there was even a possibility of Arnold winning the stay so I thought that was pretty neat yeah it was um I don't know I I took that as uh hey if you want to stay great you know what I mean uh you're gonna have a more experienced backup option right if you have that and Michael Hawkins Jr but uh I think like Brett Vittables kind of alluded to and and I think Jack's not gonna talk about this too which
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I think he did talk about this too on.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: Was that Tuesday?
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: The days of run together.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: I was one of the things where I was like, he needed a fresh start, preventables talked about everything last year.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't Jackson Arnold's fault with the receiver injuries, the offensive line injuries, a terrible offensive coordinator.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't say those words, but he has said, you know, abomination stuff like that before.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: And some of the heat freeze attacked about, right?
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: And Jackson talked about.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: There was just so much else going on that they needed to
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: hit all this other stuff and fix all that.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think a change of scenery was huge there.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously that exits or Arnold exiting stage left coincided with material funneling in stage right.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: And it made it one of those things where now they're off and running, rock and roll.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: And we heard a lot about the new offense.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: You spent a lot of time with Armace and Thomas, Robert Spirish, Jennings.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: Before we just get into how my tier handled media days and all that stuff,
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: How would those guys find the offense coming along through Springball and into these summer workouts?
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Robert Spear Shinning's really touched on how much harder it is to play against this offense compared to last year.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, the struggles, those are no secret for the OU offense last year, but just the combination of a new formation that comes with having been our buckle as the offensive coordinator.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: A guy like John Matier, I think the word that Robert Spear Shinning's use was energy.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: He used that multiple times in the quote that he gave me about.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: How much the defense had or how much the offense rather has improved?
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: How much harder it is to play against them in practice, which in turn I think is going to help both of those units.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: Did you get any good stuff on our grocery shootings and armates and Thomas?
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: And they're a love island?
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, tech sags.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: Those guys.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm okay.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'm exist.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: I missed our mason's because I had to go up to electronic media for material.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: Robert Speer's Jennings, he said, I think that Isaiah Satania would be the best candidate to win the show.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he said, Portland, Gillary, I don't know this show would be a trainer like bombshell, whatever.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like the thing is, I listen, I have very surface level knowledge of love island and I don't think that will change.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: But that's
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: the gist of what Robert Spear's shedding is told to scrum.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: Well, thank you, Tex Ags.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: Um, one of the like Auburn fans that gets credentialed who aspirant venables on the podium without navy.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: It was interesting.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: The wing T. Great.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, energy as it comes to a swag was another word.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Robert Spear's should see is that the entire offense has kind of been bodied that swag.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: And that's something that
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: Um, when we broke down Spring Football that uh, been our buckle had talked about and and Jon material talked about like this offense needed.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, not just a breath of fresh air, but to like rebuild the confidence, but I slowly get everybody moving back in the same direction, something to ask like Jon material about Dion Burke's a guy that
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: was supposed to be the big offseason poor edition a year ago played and I think it was officially five games but the way that he was just not really heavily used and that was very game and and and all that stuff he he'd never really got going and so while he's returned and while he's going to be a big part of the softens it was like what did you need to uplift him and and that was something Brady want to hop on that you already potted you want to hop on this pod the great Brady triathlon
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: Do I need a mic?
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: Dion Burke's thoughts go.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: Tiny.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Is Brevinable still talking?
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: The opening statement just wrapped up actually a couple of minutes ago.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: Thank God John, love you.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: The great way to translate everybody to the sub-shouting in.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: But now that's something that the Yamashit material is talking about, D.on.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: Berks, just revamping everything that goes on with.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not just him, but the entire wider silver core.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: And one of the last questions I asked Yamashit on at the end of Springball was material, not Hoover.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: been our buckle in geometry talked about that that offense was installed way faster than they thought it was going to go down and that process went really really smoothly and well during the spring and in materials like yeah but we're going to keep going through the summer and keep making those leaps and that's something that I think stood out the material said he believes the offense has taken another step and that that been our buckle is
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: adding new plays which you saw the very very end of last year right and you saw that um it was a hodgepodge group just trying to survive that there if you don't have a vision for what you're doing you can't innovate off of that and whether this goes great poorly average whatever at least it has been our buckles offense been our buckle nose what he wants to do with his offense he knows the goals for this offense and he knows exactly what he wants to do to try and get that thing going
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: way more in the right direction, which is going to be necessary if Oklahoma wants to look similar on the sidelines next year.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: No, definitely.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: And one thing that, I mean, it's important, I don't think enough people have talked about this.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: How much the level of football difficulty increases from playing in a pack-to-elf school versus in the SEC?
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: And Mattier said that it's been admittedly very challenging against this so you defense.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of returning guys, guys that have been in this system, it hasn't been easy for him.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: But ultimately, he does think he said this yesterday that this is going to make him better, more adjusted to playing defense as like Alabama.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: Missouri, Auburn, Tennessee.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, name any SEC opponent and they're going to have probably a better defense than the best defense that Washington state played last year.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: So there is going to be a learning curve, but it sounds like he's adjusting to it pretty well.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, obviously, Brent Minimals is never going to tell us, oh, yeah, John Bittier's just not doing well.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's having a bad camp.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_00]: hearing it from the tier he seems confident in it and he was not overly arrogant like, yeah, I've just been killing it winning every rep.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: He admitted that there are some reps that he loses and plenty of reps that he loses, which I think is going to be going to be big for his growth.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's time that he talks about two.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to get into SEC play to learn those lessons.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: If you're playing a very challenging Oklahoma defense that has the speed, the size and the SEC that has the schematic difficulty right of a Brent Venomals defense, that's something that we heard about in a different way, last spring, right, with Jack Snow that was all about, hey, we're throwing everything at them, throwing everything at the offense, so that they're prepared.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: I have to imagine that Brent Venomals is thinking the exact same thing at Java tier, but it's like night and day different, right?
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's not about, hey,
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: He's not started as a quarterback before anything like that.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's all about, hey, have you found a way to translate this offense and make the jump and all that stuff?
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: And so, Jon material very, very confident you talk about a learning curve.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: There's a little bit of a different learning curve with Jon material this year as well, which is he's always been an under-recrued guy.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's always been either central Arkansas over to Washington State, what that looks like.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing flying under the radar about geometry this year.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: You had Monday when they're trying to roll out the orange carpet, the burn orange carpet, and get that thing going, and get the hype tray moving.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: You got the SC network desk, you're like, okay, are we just adding some materials?
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: Gonna be the best, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan Rogers and Paul Feinbaum had there.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: conversation, I guess.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: They're content opportunity.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: And so asking just geometry like, hey man, how are you dealing with the attention and all that?
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: He's like very, very simple.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: I used screen time on my phone, and I said, I have social videos.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, well, okay, you know, props to him.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: I wish I could put screen time on Twitter, but we gotta keep up with the Joneses.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, too many stories that we have to tell, but that's a good, good attitude to take in arch-maning of Texas, said something similar, like, yeah, I don't really use social media.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like to drown myself with these expectations, because I mean, even the best quarterbacks, they're gonna have their bad games, and you don't wanna see what Twitter's saying, whatever TikTok's saying, you don't wanna see what all these people online are saying,
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: when you have that bad performance when the season does come.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I think both of those quarterbacks, I'm very mature approach when it comes to that.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how that progresses up.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: Well, would you think stand out about our Mason Thomas and Robert Spir Singh's beyond just the offense and what they've got going there because this is a defense that has
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: less questions than they've had in New Year's pass.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's about replacing leadership, but it's not like, hey, this group was a hundred and twenty-nineth in passing defense.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they were a couple of years ago, and something that Benables talked about from the podium, right?
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: That this defense has been scarred out in the past, that they've kind of stepped through that.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: And now the challenge for this defense is not
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: proving that Oklahoma can play deep into anymore.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: The challenge for this defense is proving that they can lose the geometry, the Ethan Downs, Danny Stutsman, Billy Bowman, a guy at every level, and every position group, and be able to roll that forward.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: So, okay, now we've developed the town to replace those guys, and to continue to play at a high level, despite the fact that we have graduated out to the draft, to all that stuff, someone at every spot.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think you kind of mentioned it as far as some of the guys that helped OU's defense go from one of the worst in the country to one that's consistently above average.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: Replacing those guys isn't easy, but armace and Thomas, Robert Spear Shinnings.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: Both of those guys seem, or made it seem like there hasn't been much of a problem with other guys stepping up, whether that's starters, reserves,
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: They're also very high on some of their newcomers like Kindle Daniels from Oklahoma State.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: Marvin Jones Jr.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: who is now at his third school, started Georgia, then went to Florida State.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: Former five start offensive in hasn't really lived up to it yet, but I've heard nothing but good things about him in camp.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: So that's definitely plus.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, it's just maybe forcing more turnovers.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: I know one of them said that was a goal forcing more takeaways this upcoming season.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just getting to the quarterback obviously, which, or Mason Thomas said something kind of an antithesis to what he said about practicing against the new look offense, battling against Colin Sexton every day in practice, because those guys have seen each other for four years now at this point.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: He's had to learn to get around him change things as Colin Sexton has.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: We're Jacob, Jacob Sexton, good news.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so sorry.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: I
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's fun and sex in the basketball player.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yeah.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's he's bounce dry.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: He's making some money.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: On the opposite side, he was like, Eddie, apparently.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's one guy.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: Then he went to his standard.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: I name everybody because I have to name the entire depth chart and not make me mad.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: Then the other side of the ball, he talked about Danny and Koi.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Another one of those young defensive ends, right?
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: And guy that he said was pound for pound, maybe the best, or maybe the most athletic football player on this team.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's something that, you know, we've heard before from Danny and Koi last year of
- 14:56[SPEAKER_01]: a lot of last year was all that, hey man.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: Just get into the system, learn it.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's very, very complicated.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see if that means that he can be a bit a difference maker across from Armageddon Thomas, because it feels like, yeah, they need to build some of that depth as far as someone that Armageddon comes off, feel it's not just a total tank off.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: The quality and all that stuff, but the flip side of that is, you gotta find a running mate across from him because Armageddon's gonna hold down on one side, and you love it, you have in the middle, Jade and Jackson, Grayson, Holtton, and David Stone, certainly up there.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: Dominic Williams coming back so you've got not just like the blend of experience in Williams Hall Jackson but you've got the young town you hope can push through and David Stone who played last year but not as much as those other three guys so it means you should see if they have to roll that forward then of course
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: The other big thing will be, can you get Eli Bowen, who had tweaked his ankle there and spring practice, can you get him healthy, can you get gentry Williams through his season?
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: Healthy, what does your Kobe Johnson look like another year in?
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: What does Peyton Bowen not corner, but on the back end, what does he look like in another year in?
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: Health the year, come on off that turf toe.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_01]: Feels like if you can keep that healthy, then they've got the round different positions.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: Except you may be corner coin, you gotta stay healthy at, to withstand a long long season in the SEC.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one other player that I want to mention real quick, Armason Thomas said that Taylor Wein is going to be one of the standouts that Armason was kind of the guy that had the, whoa, where did he come from season last year?
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: He thinks that's going to be Taylor Wein just apparently he's had a really dedicated program in the off season coming to practice with the right mindset.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: So people are very high on him, so someone to look out for.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, going back around to guys that have come from nowhere, stuff like that.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: But it was just again about the tight-ends and all that stuff.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: And one that came up yet again was talking about Wilhuggins and Carson Kent to the portal editions, obviously.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: But Caden Helms, who is not really had a chance to get his
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: career going, a ton of injuries, you guys have to know about that.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: But Caden Helm, someone that, uh, preventable single out and said, hey, that's a guy that has had his best stretch of football, whether that be winter workouts, spring ball, summer workouts, all that stuff.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see if that thing kind of comes to fruition there as you look back and go, all right?
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's what you're looking at there on the Oklahoma side of things, taking like a half step back.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing you get at CC Media Days, or Big Tell Media Days, is the circus that is the kickoff to college football is a lot of two in throw about like casual playoff, preferred models, stuff like that.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: You have everywhere from Greg Sanky saying, I'm cool with twelve.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's the big tin doesn't want to play ball.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: All the way up to Eli Drinkwitz today saying third.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think the thing that's maybe most relevant to Oklahoma is going to be the eight game versus nine game conference schedule.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: Greg's thank you who usually is pretty happy to just be straightforward.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: This is what we believe here in the SEC go with this.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: He kind of wrote the fence on that a little bit.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: Talking about
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: eight games or nine games we could do both they obviously need to make a decision on that very very soon for the twenty twenty six season is most SEC schools just have three non-conference games scheduled so they need to either pop another on the schedule you stick with the eight games scheduled we got more than that you got to buy one out all that but um... i don't know man it just kind of feels like
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's because they've been on the eight game schedule that no one feels the need to defend it because Sanky came out immediately.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: It was like we play an eight game schedule.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone has played a power four team.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: No one wants to trade schedules with us.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: That kind of thing.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: But it always feels like that everyone's always talked about the data for the ninth game on the schedule.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_01]: And so I don't know if the ESP and the SEC are on the phone and make a deal for, I think a couple years ago, it was reported out from like Ross Delinger and those guys that
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: teams have set it on a number like around six million a year for that extra game protein.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: If they get to that I think it would make perfect sense because a lot of the talk about it on the CFP was way more hey after this year they have to agree to a new deal but beyond that the real big thing that they kind of want is can we just figure out a better method for selection criteria rather that be strength of record or updating those metrics so I think it's going to be a big wait and see mode there.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I do too.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: There are so many unanswered questions.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I was pretty interested to listen in on Drinkle Witz's press conference, just hearing his.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: He's definitely given this a lot of thought.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, to have a thirty team playoff would take a lot of moving parts.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: And he led Drinkle Witz has really thought it through, which is kind of funny.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't necessarily back that model, but it is creative.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of a Mike Leach school of thought.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: I know he once kind of endorsed a sixty-four team playoff.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of talk about expansion and who knows what that number will eventually be.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it could skyrocket somewhere close to thirty-two.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: But a lot of unanswered questions there.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: The eight versus nine is very interesting to me because big tins obviously at nine right now.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: And they don't have that requirement to play an extra power team.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: I saw a graphic up like Indiana's next like five schedules and they play absolutely nobody for the next five years and I kind of hate that.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like I kind of want to see these big ten SEC, SEC big twelve.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: I like those matchups.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: It really is good for to your point adding some sort of metric of strength of record.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of seeing okay is SEC big ten the two headed monster that it probably is and people think it is.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: But I kind of want to see some data of cross conferences of like what happens and I feel that a lot of those
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: games against power conferences will go away if SEC does at a ninth conference game.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: It just makes it tough because like if you add the ninth conference game on one hand, and maybe this is not as relevant for Oklahoma specifically, but a team like Tennessee has five billion rivalries that used to play every year with the add divisions in the SEC.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: But now, you're going to have to pick one.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like, does Georgia fall off every other year?
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: Does Alabama fall off after this year?
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what is the one that you keep going?
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma Texas obviously, we keep playing.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: So you can protect all the rivalries if you go to a nine game schedule.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: That does that mean that then you fall off the power for requirement for one of their non-conference games does that mean it like slows down a little bit lower and then is it harder to compare conferences at the end of the season if there's fewer conference games between SEC, Big Ten, SEC, ACC stuff like that.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: You go the other way.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: If you stayed in eight game schedule, everyone's going to need to be mad.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: That seems to be, that was one of the reports that the big tin was not going to move off there preferred model, which is four out of bits for the big tin, four out of bits for the SEC, two for the SEC, two for the big twelve.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: If the SEC doesn't add the games, you're going to have that stuff and then it's like okay.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: You have more games, but then a school like Indiana, this used to be the Baylor School of Thought.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: K State, you used to do this back in the day of like, okay, if you're gonna make this play nine games on one's playing else, eight games, Kirk's Ignatty, how does he win Google?
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: Because he does a plenty buddy.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's how he could coach, but he also doesn't play any buddy and so you saw with any and a buy and people out.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: So, I don't know, it would be fascinating to see that continue to evolve and change and shift and all that stuff as it goes.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just I have trouble with the whole four four two two model just because if these conferences if there's some sort of metric that they add maybe it's maybe it's more of a criteria problem than it is number of bits because if these two conferences are as good as they say they are and they have been the last decade or so I feel like four teams from both
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: are going to get in.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this past year's an example of that that I think the three teams that were first out on the on the college football player for all from the SEC and I think Illinois was not far off from the big tin and you look at Ohio State Penn State Indiana, maybe a missing one big tin team that Penn State, do I say them?
- 22:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember, but a lot of SEC teams and big tin teams both made it this year, they would still get a lot of teams in with
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: just no auto bits besides the one for the champion.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know, I have some hangups with that.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's all the things that like, whether you put the line, if you expand it to a thirty team, then team thirty ones best.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: Look at the NCAA turn.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: What do we focus on?
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: The bubble, right?
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: So by nature, that's always what there's going to be a conversation.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think the big thing is like, look at what Lane Kithin had to say.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: Ole Miss was one of those teams.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: It was one of the first couple out.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't like Lane Kiffin came in today, or Tuesday, or Monday, or wherever it was, and was still yelling about that in a way that Mike Boreville, when they were down.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: It was the fifth team at Florida State.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: That was something that continues.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost like one of those things like, however far down you move the line,
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like yeah, a twelve seed could technically win, but like if you're the twelveth team or the thirteenth best team or the fourteen best team I'm here for all the conversations about metrics to get in, but I also am just like yeah, you're probably gonna win, you know what I mean?
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: So it makes it like I'm less and less concerned with it all the way down very similar like with the NCAA tournament.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm real I'm a way let's get started about the seventy of team in the seventy first team in the seventy second team some just like
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, for the student athlete, did you lose the experience to go play in the NCAA tournament?
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, from a tournament perspective, did we lose a national champion?
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: Possibility, probably not.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm interested to see, is that thing goes that there was way too much this week.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: to fit it all succinctly into one podcast.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: Need to head over to the website, OkomasoonersonSide.com.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: We have a ton, a ton, a ton of videos, articles, everything from this week.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: We also will continue to have more of that as it progresses.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: And then as the week goes on, we've got more and more content that will continue to come out.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: So be sure you're headed to OkomasoonersonSide.com.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: For us, though, we'll be back next Wednesday.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: Who will be back with us?
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: He's back home.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: in the nine one eight run and point post not the videos, make sure everything is succinct and all that stuff forward out here in Atlanta.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: So be sure you're headed to Oklahoma soon as onside.com and his YouTube page John Hoover Media will be back.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: Carson I next Wednesday, alongside who like we said podcast, wrap up, anything like that.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: Anything else for me to see video days for rebounds?
- 25:08[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm just a little curious.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: Who are your top three to five finishers in the week with your gotta get that out of you?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_01]: Georgia, Alabama, Texas.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm just like in Oklahoma, just make it through.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: I am after a week of radio, after a week of water, a CBD day.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: My brain is absolutely spent.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: If you care with the whole massive media said Friday, the all conference teams, preseason, and the all conference standing is all that'll come out.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, if you ask me for a file for an answer, I don't know, you tell me that I haven't.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: broken down the schedules and analysts all that stuff but I imagine the top and league for me would probably be Georgia Texas LSU Alabama.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: That is my subject in order that is my top for my ballot nailed it.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm my greener right here.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: Then I had Tennessee Texas A&M South Carolina and Florida I believe.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: I had OU at ten.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: And that's not a testament, so I think the sooner it's will be bad.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think they'll definitely make at least a step.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if the step's gonna be as big as some people think this year, but I think they'll be better.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: There'll be more competitive football on the field, but the schedule.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's very tough playing Michigan in the non-conference.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't help either, obviously, that doesn't count toward conference records, but couldn't have drawn a much harder hand for your conference schedule.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: If you're stepping out of the basement, you can get to the first floor.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: You can make a big step and you're still like.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a lot of stories to climb.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: So that's Carson Field.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_01]: I write a channel like we said, who, back in studio, back in, I guess not studio, back home, his studio.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be back the whole squad next week as we prepare for what should be land low for a couple of days before fall camp gets started, right, at the start of August.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: And then for everybody else, I understand it still a month away, but for us, these are the show set.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: Marathon will be on.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: I hesitate to call it Marathon.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_01]: What was the old Ron Berg in the ice-print marathons?
- 27:07[SPEAKER_01]: Something like that that's certainly how it feels when we get that thing going all the way up to August there is local home August there is right for those yes, yes local home that's my sister's birthday and so if sometimes like if the season starts on the thirty first I just mentally change it to the thirty it's so
- 27:23[SPEAKER_01]: Happy birthday for a success.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: But we will be back next week, too.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: As an aside part.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: Tell then, Oaklandsters on a side.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's the website.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: Go to Oaklandsters on a side.com.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't get that in Portuguese.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_01]: Head there and read it.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: Love it.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: See you guys next week.
