Latest / Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast / The DiCecco Daily: Temperature Check On Eagles After Another Inconsistent Win
Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hello everyone, and welcome into this edition of The check
- 0:12Speaker 1: O Daily.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It's Andrew de Checko recording this on a Tuesday evening.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I am back from Tampa.
- 0:20Speaker 1: And in case you're wondering, you can go ahead and
- 0:23Speaker 1: check out our WBCB show that was Tuesday night from
- 0:27Speaker 1: the Chickens and Pizza and Roosevelt Boulevard, Adam Kaplan and myself.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Really good conversation for the six to.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Seven hour and you can grab that on wherever you
- 0:37Speaker 1: get your podcast, or you can check it out on
- 0:40Speaker 1: the Inside the Birds YouTube where we have all of
- 0:43Speaker 1: our archives, and we'll have all of those shows throughout
- 0:48Speaker 1: the season. So the Eagles are back on the practice
- 0:50Speaker 1: field Wednesday, and that's where we'll get a better sense
- 0:53Speaker 1: of some of the injuries. And you talk about Lane Johnson,
- 0:59Speaker 1: Jalen Carr, Tyler Steen, Lobo Okoronqua was placed on IR,
- 1:05Speaker 1: Charlie Hewlett, the long snapper was placed on IR today.
- 1:08Speaker 1: So they have a spot on the fifty three that
- 1:10Speaker 1: they need to fulfill. But from the injury standpoint, we'll
- 1:13Speaker 1: get a better idea of who practiced, who didn't, what
- 1:17Speaker 1: the injuries are for certain players with the extent will
- 1:20Speaker 1: get a better idea of that Wednesday, but I just
- 1:23Speaker 1: wanted to take a few moments to talk about the
- 1:26Speaker 1: Eagles offense, what that could mean moving forward, and just
- 1:30Speaker 1: the I guess the temperature check based off of the
- 1:33Speaker 1: information that I have and those who I spoke to
- 1:36Speaker 1: in the locker room Sunday after the eagles thirty five
- 1:40Speaker 1: to twenty thirty one to twenty five win.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So Jordan Mylotta, who is
- 1:48Speaker 2: a leader on.
- 1:49Speaker 1: This team and one who has become the centerpiece, a
- 1:53Speaker 1: locker room pillar, someone who you can always go to and.
- 1:56Speaker 2: He's going to shoot you straight.
- 1:57Speaker 1: He's going to tell you exactly what's going on, and
- 2:01Speaker 1: he maintains that the Eagles are a block away from
- 2:04Speaker 1: springing something big in the running game and sort of
- 2:09Speaker 1: just to just to stick with it like that.
- 2:11Speaker 2: I don't get the sense that he or a lot
- 2:14Speaker 2: of the players.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Are sounding any of the alarms because they believe that
- 2:18Speaker 1: plays are there to be made. And he sort of
- 2:21Speaker 1: said that throughout the season, throughout the first four games,
- 2:24Speaker 1: that you know, we're a block away, and other players
- 2:27Speaker 1: have echoed that sentiment as well. Now DeVante Smith and
- 2:31Speaker 1: aj Brown didn't speak after the game. I didn't see
- 2:33Speaker 1: DeVante Smith AJ Brown walk past me on his way out.
- 2:37Speaker 1: We'll hear from presumably both players this week, but based
- 2:41Speaker 1: off of everything that you hear, and Jalen Hurts, who
- 2:45Speaker 1: spoke after the game, mentioned a lot of it comes
- 2:47Speaker 1: down to execution and cited, you know, Kevin Patulo for
- 2:53Speaker 1: giving him kudos a little bit for being aggressive on
- 2:55Speaker 1: those plays off of the push play and highlighting Dallas
- 2:59Speaker 1: Goddard doing a nice job to get in the end zone.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I don't get the sense that there's any sort of
- 3:04Speaker 1: finger pointing or any cause for concern at this time
- 3:10Speaker 1: now going into the season, I highlighted Week five as
- 3:13Speaker 1: a good barometer as to what the Eagles identity is
- 3:18Speaker 1: on that side of the ball and what that could
- 3:19Speaker 1: ultimately mean.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Who are they going to be?
- 3:22Speaker 1: What are they going into the month of October, because
- 3:25Speaker 1: that's really where you get a better sense.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Now.
- 3:26Speaker 1: September is normally an extension of the preseason. He gets
- 3:30Speaker 1: some of those kinks out of the way, and they
- 3:31Speaker 1: face a pretty good Broncos team who are deep at
- 3:34Speaker 1: wide receiver. They have Patrick Sartan, they have enough pieces
- 3:38Speaker 1: there offensively to move the football and they can get
- 3:41Speaker 1: after the passer a little bit. I'm not citing them
- 3:43Speaker 1: as this Jugger Ornaut, but it is a good comp
- 3:47Speaker 1: a good gauge of where the Eagles are, and I'm
- 3:51Speaker 1: curious to see if they're able to build off of
- 3:53Speaker 1: maybe that first half in Tampa. Remember, Kevin Patulo has
- 3:57Speaker 1: called just four games in his career, so whether or
- 3:59Speaker 1: not you like to hear it or not, there are
- 4:01Speaker 1: growing pains that are accompanied with that. He's learning and
- 4:04Speaker 1: when you have a team this talented, you feel a
- 4:07Speaker 1: little bit better about that. And Morojuma maybe said it
- 4:10Speaker 1: best the Eagles defensive tackle.
- 4:12Speaker 2: He said, it's.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Better to learn while you're winning than while you're losing.
- 4:16Speaker 1: So it sounds simple, and I know it can be
- 4:18Speaker 1: frustrating at times, but there are a multitude of reasons
- 4:23Speaker 1: why the Eagles offense has not performed to standard, and
- 4:28Speaker 1: you can't place all of the onus on Kevin Patulo.
- 4:31Speaker 1: That's short sighted and really unfair and untrue, because the
- 4:36Speaker 1: offensive line hasn't played to their standard, especially along the interior.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley is averaging three point one yards per carry
- 4:45Speaker 1: fifty nine point three yards per game.
- 4:48Speaker 2: The running room hasn't been there.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Saquon offered you a pretty good insight into the offense.
- 4:55Speaker 2: And what they need to do.
- 4:57Speaker 1: He knows that they all know, to be clear that
- 5:00Speaker 1: this isn't good enough, but they believe in the talent
- 5:04Speaker 1: that they have there.
- 5:05Speaker 2: They believe in.
- 5:07Speaker 1: The ideologies the philosophy that eagles have and Jalen Hurts
- 5:10Speaker 1: is probably the best example of that talking about they
- 5:13Speaker 1: have to execute better and they know that it was
- 5:17Speaker 1: a grimy, a gritty, grinded out type of when.

- 8:47Speaker 3: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 8:51Speaker 3: one and up.
- 8:52Speaker 1: And I think that's important to note that you don't
- 8:55Speaker 1: see the finger pointing, you don't see the you know,
- 9:00Speaker 1: you don't see anybody looking for answers. Not at this
- 9:03Speaker 1: stage of the season. They have to be able to
- 9:06Speaker 1: put it together from quarter one through quarter four. But
- 9:09Speaker 1: I do believe that those that's gonna happen, and that's coming.
- 9:13Speaker 1: The more that they play together in a game situation,
- 9:16Speaker 1: the more that they learn what they need to do,
- 9:19Speaker 1: how to best execute, how to find ways to create
- 9:21Speaker 1: space for Saint Kwon Barkley. Some of that. You have
- 9:25Speaker 1: to get players healthier because on the offensive line, Lane
- 9:27Speaker 1: Johnson will find out about him Wednesday, Tyler Steam will
- 9:30Speaker 1: find out about him more wednesday on practice. Landon Dickerson
- 9:34Speaker 1: is a warrior and he's battling through some things. Cam
- 9:38Speaker 1: Durgens had offseason surgery and didn't see a lot of
- 9:40Speaker 1: work in training camp.
- 9:42Speaker 2: So I mean all that.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Needs to be taken into consideration. And yes, the play
- 9:46Speaker 1: call needs to be better. The route concepts. I thought
- 9:50Speaker 1: I was gonna see more in breakers, those bang eights
- 9:52Speaker 1: that you hear Adam Kaplan talk about often to AJ Brown,
- 9:55Speaker 1: which are almost automatic. AJ Brown had nine targets in
- 9:58Speaker 1: that game, but you to get them the ball earlier
- 10:01Speaker 1: in the game. So that follows on Kevin Patulo and
- 10:03Speaker 1: Nick Siriotti to make sure that that is an emphasis
- 10:06Speaker 1: and that's how you get jaywhen hurts in the passing
- 10:08Speaker 1: game into more of a flow early. So I'm not
- 10:10Speaker 1: absolving anyone, but I would just I would just caution
- 10:13Speaker 1: folks to be a little bit more mindful, a little
- 10:16Speaker 1: easier on Kevin Batulo because there's I guess there's a
- 10:21Speaker 1: shared blame. If you want to call it that, and
- 10:24Speaker 1: there's a lot of reasons why the offense hasn't met
- 10:26Speaker 1: the eye test and they need to be better, but
- 10:29Speaker 1: this is a really good test for them to do
- 10:31Speaker 1: that against this Broncos team. Now, I do want to
- 10:36Speaker 1: get to just some quotes because Kevin Petullo did speak today, and.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Let's see specifically about his communication with wide receiver A. J. Brown.
- 10:46Speaker 1: He said, AJ and I have a great relationship just
- 10:48Speaker 1: throughout the years being here. We spent a lot of
- 10:49Speaker 1: time together. So as far as communication and getting to
- 10:52Speaker 1: him and and I have had no problem. I know
- 10:56Speaker 1: what where his heart is, where he lies. He wants
- 10:59Speaker 1: to win, so he feels like he can do everything
- 11:01Speaker 1: and anything to.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Help us at all times.
- 11:03Speaker 1: So as far as I'm concerned, him and I are
- 11:05Speaker 1: in a good spot. About those route concepts, he says,
- 11:09Speaker 1: you know, because sometimes you could you know, that's been.
- 11:13Speaker 2: A criticism of Batulo.
- 11:15Speaker 1: He says, I think at times, if you look through
- 11:17Speaker 1: the first four games, he's been doing some different stuff
- 11:20Speaker 1: and this is really route concepts in terms of AJ Brown.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Sometimes we've talked about it before. Sometimes the ball finds him,
- 11:27Speaker 1: sometimes it doesn't. So going into every game, you plan
- 11:29Speaker 1: on making sure he's the primary and moving forward and
- 11:32Speaker 1: moving around and doing stuff for him. If it doesn't
- 11:35Speaker 1: go his way, that means usually we're on rhythm or
- 11:38Speaker 1: something good's happening, and Jaylen is reading it out, it's
- 11:41Speaker 1: going to other guys, and that can happen. I think
- 11:43Speaker 1: when you go into it, you just want to make sure, hey,
- 11:47Speaker 1: he's the guy who're going through him, and if it happens,
- 11:50Speaker 1: it happens, and you just don't want to really force it.
- 11:56Speaker 1: There was also another really good answer that there was
- 11:59Speaker 1: a good answer here that he provided in terms of
- 12:02Speaker 1: what it's like managing so many high end players because
- 12:06Speaker 1: as a coordinator that could be it's a positive. It's
- 12:09Speaker 1: a good problem to have, but you have to be
- 12:10Speaker 1: mindful of all the players that you have and incorporating
- 12:13Speaker 1: them into.
- 12:14Speaker 2: The game plan on a given week.
- 12:16Speaker 1: And so Petullo said, so, I think, first of all,
- 12:18Speaker 1: like you said, it's a great problem, right, because some
- 12:20Speaker 1: teams don't have what we have, so it's a great problem.
- 12:23Speaker 1: And really the guys have been great with me. I've
- 12:26Speaker 1: been around here for a while, so obviously I know
- 12:28Speaker 1: them a little bit differently, but they all want to win.
- 12:31Speaker 1: And that's the number one thing. They all want to win.
- 12:33Speaker 1: They'll do anything for the team to win. So whether
- 12:35Speaker 1: it's somebody getting the ball, somebody's not. When you watch
- 12:38Speaker 1: it at times, there's guys being excited for other guys
- 12:41Speaker 1: when they're making plays, and that's all we can really
- 12:43Speaker 1: ask for. It's just like, hey, we all want to win.
- 12:46Speaker 1: We're on the same page. We know it may be
- 12:48Speaker 1: different from play to play or from game to game,
- 12:51Speaker 1: but we all.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Want to win.
- 12:53Speaker 1: So there's just some of the cliff notes, some highlights
- 12:57Speaker 1: from Kevin Petullo's press conference to sort of onto my
- 13:01Speaker 1: discussion about the offense and where it can improve and
- 13:04Speaker 1: what it could look like moving forward. Tomorrow, I'll be
- 13:08Speaker 1: back at the Overcare Complex. The Eagles are on the
- 13:10Speaker 1: practice field. There's the first locker room session of the week.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni talks at twelve ten, so there'll be plenty
- 13:16Speaker 1: more to dissect and I will have all of that
- 13:18Speaker 1: for you right here on the Check Go Daily.
- 13:21Speaker 2: It has been to check Go Daily.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Thank you for listening, thank you for the support, and
- 13:26Speaker 1: I will talk to everybody Wednesday afternoon with another edition.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Take Care
