- 0:00Hallelujah. Breaking news in the garage
- 0:03area. NASCAR has settled with Michael
- 0:07Jordan and Front Row Motorsports.
- 0:12Deep breath, everybody. Well, let's talk about it.
- 0:16Let's break it down for just a little bit.
- 0:18Once again, breaking news in the garage area.
- 0:22NASCAR has settled with Michael Jordan and Front Row
- 0:28Motorsports. I don't know what it looks like.
- 0:32The settlement agreements could be private.
- 0:36I know we all are nosy. I want to know who got what.
- 0:41But it's fair to say that Michael Jordan and Front Row
- 0:44Motorsports got what they wanted or else they would not have
- 0:48settled. Just think about it that way.
- 0:51They got what they wanted. Or if they would not have
- 0:54settled or they righted the ship, what that means is the
- 1:00teams are going to get more TV money, right?
- 1:04Because that's what they really wanted.
- 1:06And, you know, they most likely got permanent charters, maybe an
- 1:11Evergreen permanent charters, meaning that like Rodger Penske
- 1:15said, when NASCAR does good, everybody does good.
- 1:21When NASCAR does bad, then everybody gets less money.
- 1:25So, you know, this morning we did coffee with Kenny and that's
- 1:29the very first thing we said, hey, there could be a settlement
- 1:33because the judge said to the jury, could you give us an hour?
- 1:38I might be able to save you 2 hours.
- 1:41But we all thought, well, it looks like the sport's going to
- 1:44be saved. You can see it in my face.
- 1:45I'm happy. Man.
- 1:48Oh man, what a son of a bitch. That has been all race fans.
- 1:52OK, so let's just talk a little bit more about what I think they
- 1:58got. OK, now, now we're at a bar, now
- 2:01we're at the local gas station and everybody's going to come up
- 2:04to me and they're going to say, Herman, what do you think?
- 2:07Michael Jordan in front row? What do you think they got?
- 2:10Well, I think I just kind of said most of it.
- 2:12I think we're going to right the ship.
- 2:14I think NASCAR is going to, you know, they they were at a low
- 2:18percentage of sharing revenue. OK.
- 2:22So I think the teams are going to get more money.
- 2:26I think they're going to get permanent charters and the
- 2:29permanent charters. What do you mean permanent
- 2:30charters? Well, you know, Jim France was
- 2:34worried that if I gave you all permanent charters, what happens
- 2:37if I can't, if I can't give you the money that I promised you 7
- 2:41years ago? Well, they said no, no, it don't
- 2:43work. We understand it don't work that
- 2:45way. If if your TV contract is less
- 2:48than the teams will get less Evergreen ebb and flow, right?
- 2:55So man, old man, how about that something now?
- 2:59OK, let's go this way. Why did they settle?
- 3:02Well, I think it's right in front of us.
- 3:05Did you see the letters? And I also think fan sentiment.
- 3:12There was a, you know, life is kind of funny, right?
- 3:16It's, it's like, let's compare it to family, OK, Now listen, I
- 3:21love my family. This is not about me, but I, I
- 3:24know a lot of people that don't like their family members,
- 3:26right? It's like, listen, I'll talk bad
- 3:29about my family members, but don't you talk bad about my
- 3:33family members. And I see a lot of fans like
- 3:36that. I see a lot of fans that like, I
- 3:38don't like NASCAR, but when we start talking bad about NASCAR,
- 3:43they don't like that. I've seen some of those people
- 3:47out there. Well, here's my take on that.
- 3:52Let's use from zero to 100%. It was like 95% of the fans
- 3:59could clearly see that NASCAR was not being fair.
- 4:04I mean, the media, we know. And I think, I think these are
- 4:08my keys. When Jim France and Steve Phelps
- 4:14kept saying, I don't know, I don't remember, Come on, guys,
- 4:20let's D bull a little bit. When, when, when Jim France and
- 4:24Steve Phelps said, I don't know, I don't remember.
- 4:28That mean that means they don't want to talk about it.
- 4:31They mean, I mean that that was not good.
- 4:33OK, That's key #1 when your leaders, when the owner of
- 4:38NASCAR and the president at that time, Steve Phelps was the
- 4:40president at that time. By the way, this is a key take
- 4:43away what I'm going to say, Steve Phelps, when I see you,
- 4:47I'll give you a hug. But buddy, if you got a job
- 4:50after this, I'll be shocked. I don't know how you're going to
- 4:55ever overcome that. I'm going to take, I'm going to
- 4:57steal one out of Mark Martin's page.
- 5:00How, how does NASCAR overcome this?
- 5:04I think I'm going to answer that right now.
- 5:07How does NASCAR overcome this with the fans that are so angry
- 5:11#1 show humility, get do a big press conference and say, look,
- 5:16this is behind us. You know, we had a
- 5:19misunderstanding. We corrected it and get all
- 5:22these coroners to come out now and go, look, we're happy with
- 5:25NASCAR. We had a family dispute, just
- 5:28like all of you have family disputes and we fixed it.
- 5:32So it sounds to me, you know, like happy days are here again
- 5:37and it's all settled, everybody. And you know, but once again,
- 5:42getting back to these key moments, we just now talked
- 5:45about Steve Phelps, Jim France saying, I don't know, but I
- 5:50think another one was yesterday was pivotal.
- 5:53When you see the letters from Jim France's probably his dear
- 5:58friend Rodger Penske and Rick Hendrick.
- 6:01When you see Rodger Penske and Rick Hendrick Now, remember,
- 6:07like I said in Coffee with Kenny, Rick Hendrick and Jim
- 6:11France are buddies. Rick Hendrick created the Garage
- 6:1656 project for Jim France. And when you seen that letter
- 6:22that Rick Hendrick wrote to Jim France, I think Jim went, I
- 6:26think that was it. He, Jim had to take that one in
- 6:28the gut and he's like, and then when Rodger writes the letter,
- 6:32now that's not all. When Johnny Morris now the
- 6:36sponsors, now the sponsors, that's a different deal right
- 6:40there. I think I think Jim took a
- 6:44couple kicks in the gut that almost had nothing to do with
- 6:48money had to do with come on, what's right, man?
- 6:51You're just you're showing up here and this is not good.
- 6:55And in the end, fan sentiment, right?
- 6:59Jim had to get some vice that look, you pissed everybody off.
- 7:01There's a chance that nobody will even show up because they
- 7:04hate you so bad. Take your loss and move on.
- 7:08Listen, let me throw the dagger in my back just to show you I've
- 7:12been fired before, OK? So Furniture Row, they fired me,
- 7:18said I couldn't drive. Well, guess what happened?
- 7:21Not six months later, they hired me back and they said, Kenny, we
- 7:24were wrong. We want to right the ship by
- 7:27hiring you back. We want to enter a second car in
- 7:30the Daytona 500, and there I was running 4th and 5th.
- 7:34I was up the third in the Twin 125 at that time and I run 6 and
- 7:40we made-up and we went on. They were wrong and and you got
- 7:44to admit it. So there I I just threw the
- 7:46dagger in my back and I told you a story equated to this one.
- 7:50All right, respond right here, everybody.
- 7:53The lawsuit is over. What does NASCAR need to do to
- 7:57make you happy? I think all they need to do is
- 7:59show humility and move forward. What a great day, everybody.
- 8:06What a great day. We're headed to Daytona Wahoo.
