- 0:06Speaker 1: Headbugs. Welcome into the Irish Steelers Podcast as we get
- 0:09Speaker 1: set after the bye week for the Pittsburgh Steelers and
- 0:12Speaker 1: for Week seven in the NFL. As we are getting
- 0:14Speaker 1: into the autumn weeks of the NFL season, delighted to
- 0:18Speaker 1: be joined by both Jimmy English and McKee. Jimmy, first off,
- 0:21Speaker 1: the warm welcome in bye week's overman ready to go?
- 0:24Speaker 2: I know, yeah, the season is absolutely flying by me.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I don't know what's going on here at all, but
- 0:31Speaker 2: it was strange not having Steelers football last Sunday. I
- 0:34Speaker 2: was over in the States actually, so I got to
- 0:36Speaker 2: watch the NFL on Sunday at a reasonable hour for
- 0:39Speaker 2: a change, So it would have been nice to have
- 0:41Speaker 2: seen the Steelers, but I you know, all the same,
- 0:45Speaker 2: it was great to be able to watch football at
- 0:47Speaker 2: the hour it was intended to be watched out even
- 0:49Speaker 2: I got to watch Sunday night football NBC, which is
- 0:53Speaker 2: something that I don't often get to do, so that
- 0:55Speaker 2: was that was a bit of a triagte. But looking
- 0:57Speaker 2: forward now to the Rams game on Sunday night and
- 1:00Speaker 2: hopefully getting picking up where we left off two weeks
- 1:04Speaker 2: ago now, so yeah, it's great to be here with
- 1:07Speaker 2: you boys as always.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Were rare guests than you have a warm welcome. Do
- 1:11Speaker 1: you have the over in England the last three weeks and
- 1:13Speaker 1: I I'm ready for arrest this weekend and put the
- 1:16Speaker 1: feet up most the RUMs game. How you doing good?
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm doing well, Mike. Thanks for austin the bag
- 1:21Speaker 3: week was I had a bit of a chance, you know,
- 1:24Speaker 3: just to watch a few games about having the sort
- 1:25Speaker 3: of scream with the television. But the rugby on the
- 1:28Speaker 3: Saturday night sort of give me that chance. Disappointing result
- 1:30Speaker 3: for us, but give me a bit of chance, you know,
- 1:32Speaker 3: on the Sunday to watch the Rams see how we
- 1:34Speaker 3: match up with them. So apart from not all good
- 1:37Speaker 3: and it's good to have Stater football back, so yeah,
- 1:38Speaker 3: bring it on.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I forgot about the rugby, so thank you for that,
- 1:41Speaker 1: Dave for depressing me. I'm joking. Hard luck to the lads.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And it was great to see the Staters out on
- 1:46Speaker 1: the cun shout them as well and delighted the walk win.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Our guest this week a storyteller sideline reporter for the
- 1:52Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Staters. Miss him off, He's missed the ed. We
- 1:55Speaker 1: see your content everywhere honest, it's just great to have
- 1:57Speaker 1: you on the podcast. Welcome into the R series podcast
- 2:00Speaker 1: How you did?
- 2:01Speaker 4: I'm doing great, Thank you guys for having me. I
- 2:03Speaker 4: appreciate it.
- 2:05Speaker 1: At Missy Tallis, just before we go into the talking
- 2:07Speaker 1: about the team and your career. Have you ever had
- 2:10Speaker 1: a chance to be an Arnham before? Have you ever
- 2:11Speaker 1: had other childs at wolver.
- 2:14Speaker 4: I have not. I am jealous of a lot of
- 2:15Speaker 4: people from the Steelers organization who have. I got to
- 2:19Speaker 4: go to London with the team in twenty and thirteen
- 2:22Speaker 4: when they played the Vikings at Wembley, which was super cool.
- 2:26Speaker 4: We'd love to come to Ireland.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I was actually at that game. Missy is my first
- 2:32Speaker 2: and only Steelers game, which I'm kind of disappointed to admit.
- 2:35Speaker 2: So I need to get to another game soon. But like,
- 2:38Speaker 2: we're able to listen now to the radio broadcast of
- 2:40Speaker 2: the Steelers here in Ireland thanks to Off the Ball
- 2:44Speaker 2: and obviously to your sideline report, So can you tell
- 2:48Speaker 2: us a bit about what that is like being the
- 2:50Speaker 2: eyes and ears for Steelers Nation down in the field.
- 2:55Speaker 4: I think that's so cool that you guys get to
- 2:56Speaker 4: hear it. By the way, that when we first found out.
- 2:58Speaker 4: I was like, that's really weird, but also awesome because
- 3:01Speaker 4: Steelers Nation is everywhere and I love the following that
- 3:05Speaker 4: you all have. It's really cool. Doing sidelines is by
- 3:09Speaker 4: far one of my favorite things I've ever had a
- 3:11Speaker 4: chance to do in my career. There's a lot of
- 3:13Speaker 4: other things that I like, but you're close to the action.
- 3:17Speaker 4: You could hear players and coaches talking, You see things firsthand.
- 3:20Speaker 4: I mean half the time the play is running out
- 3:22Speaker 4: to you. I don't know. I'm just very drawn to
- 3:24Speaker 4: the adrenaline rush that you kind of get when you're
- 3:27Speaker 4: down on the field. It's about as close as you
- 3:29Speaker 4: can be, I think, to being you know, on the team.
- 3:32Speaker 4: And Max Starks, who's my partner, he's experienced it both ways.
- 3:36Speaker 4: But it's just really fun to be able to see
- 3:39Speaker 4: things that maybe the guy's up in the booths depending
- 3:41Speaker 4: on where the booth is in the stadium. Some you know,
- 3:43Speaker 4: they're in an end zone, they're high up. It's just
- 3:46Speaker 4: really cool to help and like you said, to be
- 3:48Speaker 4: able to provide some context of what we're seeing from
- 3:51Speaker 4: field level.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Yeah, you just mentioned there messy as well, but you know,
- 3:56Speaker 3: all the things you get to do you know, sort
- 3:57Speaker 3: of a dream job for Staders fans if you like
- 3:59Speaker 3: what what would you say is the most rewarded element
- 4:01Speaker 3: of that job.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Well, I'm from Pittsburgh, born and raised. I went to
- 4:07Speaker 4: college at the University of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh. I have
- 4:11Speaker 4: moved a little bit in the state of Pennsylvania two times,
- 4:15Speaker 4: but was naturally drawn to come back. So it's it's
- 4:18Speaker 4: kind of like a childhood dream and I just think
- 4:21Speaker 4: it's really cool now that I have children on my own.
- 4:23Speaker 4: I have two young boys and they're football junkies. I
- 4:27Speaker 4: mean they love every sport, but specifically the Steelers. So
- 4:30Speaker 4: it's been really cool to carry on that tradition that
- 4:32Speaker 4: my parents did with my brother and I have loving football,
- 4:36Speaker 4: and now we're passing that down to our boys.
- 4:39Speaker 1: And miss You talked about being in London of that
- 4:42Speaker 1: game about ten years ago now, which seems like yesterday,
- 4:45Speaker 1: but it's almost like a generation that going now. I am.
- 4:48Speaker 1: You know, first off, the game inter Nationhley has really
- 4:51Speaker 1: changed over that period, and even like I usually don't
- 4:54Speaker 1: do this, but I walked around the concourse that taught
- 4:56Speaker 1: them last week and I'm not just saying this for
- 4:59Speaker 1: the podcast. Guys, I haven't told you this. The third
- 5:03Speaker 1: highest supporting team outside of the twos and two outside
- 5:05Speaker 1: of the two teams that were planned Staters. No, I'm
- 5:08Speaker 1: not sure if those were English funds or Irish fons
- 5:09Speaker 1: of European funds, but there was a heavy amount of
- 5:12Speaker 1: Staters funds there last week. And it's just cool to
- 5:14Speaker 1: city international impact, I guess messee and just continue to grow.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you know a lot of times, obviously
- 5:22Speaker 4: here in the States, when we go to different stadiums,
- 5:23Speaker 4: you're seeing maybe people from Pittsburg who are going to
- 5:26Speaker 4: a destination like we're going to la this weekend. Las
- 5:28Speaker 4: Vegas was one where I knew, like neighbors, close friends
- 5:32Speaker 4: who were going from Pittsburgh to Vegas because they wanted
- 5:34Speaker 4: to go to Vegas. But when we were at Wembley,
- 5:36Speaker 4: like you said, it was Yes, there are people who
- 5:39Speaker 4: made the trek from Pittsburgh or wherever, but there were
- 5:42Speaker 4: just home grown Steelers fans from there that were just
- 5:45Speaker 4: so exciting. We had a chance I cannot remember the
- 5:48Speaker 4: name of the pub, but we did a live show
- 5:50Speaker 4: from it and it was one of the coolest atmospheres.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Just the fans that showed up. They I remember it
- 5:57Speaker 4: was like coach Tomlin, Troy Paula, Maul lou Ike, I'm
- 6:00Speaker 4: sure it was Ben. There was somebody else on offense.
- 6:03Speaker 4: They took them somewhere really cool. The streets were shut down.
- 6:06Speaker 4: They're up on a stage and there were just black
- 6:08Speaker 4: and gold jerseys everywhere. I mean, it was just it
- 6:11Speaker 4: was so wild and Steelers Nation never surprises me, but
- 6:15Speaker 4: that was one of those moments where I was like, Wow,
- 6:17Speaker 4: this is this is worldwide, this is crazy.
- 6:22Speaker 2: They see which player on the team is the most
- 6:25Speaker 2: fun to interview, and you know, which player have you
- 6:28Speaker 2: enjoyed interviewing the most.
- 6:31Speaker 4: There's a lot of good guys. Oh okay, all right,
- 6:35Speaker 4: So I will say Najie Harris is really fun to
- 6:38Speaker 4: talk to because he can be very off the wall.
- 6:41Speaker 4: He says funny things. He has a good sense of humor.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Cam Hayward, TJ Watt, Alex high Smith, those like veteran
- 6:47Speaker 4: defensive guys. It's fun to pick their brain as well
- 6:51Speaker 4: as you know, just this season, after that San Francisco loss,
- 6:55Speaker 4: I usually have to try to get a player on
- 6:57Speaker 4: the field, and after losses it can be a little
- 6:59Speaker 4: bit more difficult, which I understand sometimes I don't even
- 7:02Speaker 4: want to do it. But TJ Watt ty James Harrison's record,
- 7:06Speaker 4: and he was like, of course, I'll do it. You know,
- 7:08Speaker 4: it was a hard situation, but he's just one of
- 7:10Speaker 4: those guys where he knew that it was something I
- 7:12Speaker 4: needed to do for my job and he was more
- 7:14Speaker 4: than willing to do it. And I appreciate that. But
- 7:17Speaker 4: I think my all time favorite is probably Troy Palamalu.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Toy's funny. I think what people see from him. You know,
- 7:25Speaker 4: he was crazy on the field, but he's very reserved
- 7:27Speaker 4: and quiet off the field. But he's one of the
- 7:30Speaker 4: funniest guys. He was a prankster in the locker room.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Every teammate and coach loved him, and I always just
- 7:35Speaker 4: really enjoyed getting to.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Chat with him, you know.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Speaking of fun you know, we had Max Starks on
- 7:41Speaker 3: a couple of ways tough your teammates. You're like, just
- 7:44Speaker 3: to talk about the Staelers fads and how you know,
- 7:46Speaker 3: well they travel. You know, there have been some incredible
- 7:49Speaker 3: experiences so far the season lot alone, you know in past,
- 7:52Speaker 3: but what are stainers files really like on the room
- 7:54Speaker 3: and to say.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Passionate. They get there early, they come down to the
- 7:59Speaker 4: front row they know or the visiting team Ton was,
- 8:01Speaker 4: it's like they almost scouted out before they get there
- 8:04Speaker 4: because you see them because they have their terrible towels,
- 8:07Speaker 4: which is fantastic even in Las Vegas. Obviously the Jersey
- 8:10Speaker 4: colors were kind of similar, but then you get the
- 8:13Speaker 4: towels out and you're like, ah, there they are. But
- 8:16Speaker 4: they're just passionate. They want a chance to get as
- 8:18Speaker 4: close as they can to the team. And let me
- 8:21Speaker 4: tell you, they you know, when you make the home
- 8:23Speaker 4: team quarterback go on a silent count. They're doing their
- 8:26Speaker 4: job on the road, and I know the players appreciate
- 8:28Speaker 4: it a lot. Coach Tublin's given Steelers Nation a shout
- 8:31Speaker 4: out a bunch this season as well, but it's it's
- 8:33Speaker 4: really cool to see in person and just how you
- 8:35Speaker 4: can take over a stadium when it's not your home stadium.
- 8:41Speaker 1: And talking about stadiums, talking about atmosphere. Obviously a bye
- 8:44Speaker 1: week last week, Missy. And one thing I've learned over
- 8:46Speaker 1: the last sixty eight months is there is no off
- 8:49Speaker 1: day in the NFL, even when there's an off season.
- 8:51Speaker 1: But do you get a chance as a reporter to
- 8:53Speaker 1: actually maybe have just a bit of a rast during
- 8:56Speaker 1: the bye week or is it all just go, go,
- 8:58Speaker 1: go continuously.
- 9:00Speaker 4: No, I definitely did, which was great and it's very weird,
- 9:03Speaker 4: but also nice to kind of watch other games and
- 9:06Speaker 4: not be going to a game or you know, trying
- 9:09Speaker 4: to catch up. My boys are very active in sports,
- 9:12Speaker 4: so I was at a nice rink, a soccer field,
- 9:15Speaker 4: a football field, i should say, and then they played
- 9:17Speaker 4: flag football on Sunday, so we went to their games,
- 9:20Speaker 4: and then afterwards I took my oldest out and we
- 9:23Speaker 4: watched the end of the Browns game and the Bengals game.
- 9:27Speaker 4: You know, they had the double TV's up. It was
- 9:28Speaker 4: just really cool to watch and to experience it with him.
- 9:31Speaker 4: And then obviously it's you have to pay attention to
- 9:34Speaker 4: the AFC North and other things happening. So it was
- 9:37Speaker 4: a nice break, but I'm definitely jonesing to be back
- 9:39Speaker 4: for another game.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Bessie, how you found the team's performances so far this season.
- 9:48Speaker 4: I think it's probably not what they wanted in terms of,
- 9:51Speaker 4: you know, a fast start, but I don't think you
- 9:53Speaker 4: could also complain about being three and two after the
- 9:56Speaker 4: first five games that they played. I think the buye
- 9:59Speaker 4: was a little early, but again, it is what it is,
- 10:02Speaker 4: and you have to use that time wisely. I think
- 10:04Speaker 4: when it's more towards the middle of the season that
- 10:07Speaker 4: helps out help wise. But look, they might get Deontay
- 10:10Speaker 4: Johnson and Anthony McFarland back this week, which is huge,
- 10:13Speaker 4: especially for the offense. I think they did a really
- 10:16Speaker 4: good job last year after the buye of making adjustments,
- 10:21Speaker 4: maybe not the whole cell that you know everybody can see,
- 10:23Speaker 4: but something clicked and worked, and I'm hoping that that's
- 10:27Speaker 4: what we see on Sunday in LA in terms of
- 10:29Speaker 4: the offense playing better and the defense as well.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Just you know, it's a massive game. You know, with
- 10:36Speaker 3: the Rams, a lot of people expected them the struggle
- 10:38Speaker 3: this year, expected a attached of dyne year tyld Press.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Have you actually been with them this year?
- 10:42Speaker 1: Miss?
- 10:44Speaker 4: I mean, I think you know, they have Matthew Stafford
- 10:46Speaker 4: and he's been in the league for a long time,
- 10:48Speaker 4: but he is a very accurate quarterback and there's a
- 10:51Speaker 4: reason why there was a trade for him, you know,
- 10:54Speaker 4: from Detroit. I also think Aaron Donald, he's a Pittsburgh guy,
- 10:57Speaker 4: so everybody you know, knows of him him across the league,
- 11:01Speaker 4: but specifically here in Pittsburgh, just being a guy who
- 11:03Speaker 4: grew up here, went to college here, and he's on
- 11:06Speaker 4: the latter portion of his career, but he's still really good.
- 11:09Speaker 4: He's still somebody that you have to know where he
- 11:11Speaker 4: is at all times. So I think the Rams are
- 11:13Speaker 4: maybe one of those teams that, as you said, was
- 11:16Speaker 4: a little underrated coming in. I think their running game
- 11:18Speaker 4: might suffer being that they lost two of their top guys,
- 11:23Speaker 4: but it's Sean McVay and I just think he's a
- 11:25Speaker 4: really good offensive mind. So I'm interested to see what
- 11:28Speaker 4: their game plan is on Sunday, Missy.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Obviously, you know the Staters are coming off the buy
- 11:35Speaker 2: now and it's an opportunity to reseest. Not the best
- 11:38Speaker 2: start of the season, but we've seen progress and they've
- 11:41Speaker 2: gradually gotten better week on week. What are you going
- 11:44Speaker 2: to be looking out for as the key things against
- 11:47Speaker 2: the Rams this weekend?
- 11:49Speaker 4: I think for the offense, I want to see a
- 11:51Speaker 4: little bit more balance, especially get the run game going.
- 11:55Speaker 4: We've seen it in Spurts, but not consistently, and I
- 11:58Speaker 4: think for this offense, if they can score points early.
- 12:01Speaker 4: Then it gives you time to incorporate the run game
- 12:04Speaker 4: and stick with the run game. And we saw what
- 12:06Speaker 4: it did at the end of last season and how
- 12:08Speaker 4: much it helped them, And I think, you know, like
- 12:11Speaker 4: I said, Deontay Johnson coming back, I think is going
- 12:13Speaker 4: to be huge for them because now if teams were
- 12:16Speaker 4: doubling George Pickens, now you have to worry about eighteen
- 12:19Speaker 4: as well. So I think those are some things I'm
- 12:22Speaker 4: looking for. And then I think in terms of the
- 12:24Speaker 4: defense that the tackling, I think the Ravens game, I
- 12:27Speaker 4: always wish they played after that game because it just
- 12:30Speaker 4: felt like things were gelling really well. But you know,
- 12:33Speaker 4: coach Tellman shouted out the middle of their defense that
- 12:36Speaker 4: completely revamped inside linebackers room, and I thought that they
- 12:39Speaker 4: played their best game against Baltimore and hopefully that carries
- 12:42Speaker 4: on through the rest of the season.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Yeah, And we talked a little bit earlier MESSI about
- 12:49Speaker 3: you know, the great work the Rainy family and the
- 12:51Speaker 3: Stadlers of Donna, Ireland. You know, just we've spoken a
- 12:54Speaker 3: lot of about in the podcast so far, but just
- 12:56Speaker 3: how awesome would it bad actually have a game in
- 12:58Speaker 3: Dublin someday would be a career.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Highlight for sure. I mean, I just think some of
- 13:05Speaker 4: the experiences. You know, there's places I've never been before,
- 13:09Speaker 4: but because there's a Steelers game there, I get to
- 13:11Speaker 4: go and it's it's very rewarding and I'm very grateful
- 13:15Speaker 4: for it every single time because it's kind of a
- 13:17Speaker 4: pinch me moment. But I think to have a game
- 13:20Speaker 4: there with the support that's already there, I just I
- 13:23Speaker 4: can't imagine what the atmosphere would be like, and knowing
- 13:26Speaker 4: what Wembley was like in twenty thirteen, I think it
- 13:29Speaker 4: would be fantastic, Missie.
- 13:32Speaker 1: I can imagine hopefully positive thinking going into the postseason
- 13:36Speaker 1: will probably have you all in the game to chat
- 13:38Speaker 1: about our first divisional round. Please God, match up against
- 13:43Speaker 1: someone in the postseason, but certainly mess you like, you know,
- 13:45Speaker 1: excited to continue to listen to you and the entire
- 13:48Speaker 1: team on for just for us on off the ball,
- 13:50Speaker 1: but you know, just to jump on what Dave and
- 13:53Speaker 1: Jimmy have said there. Like to see so many Sailors
- 13:56Speaker 1: fans last weekend of London was one thing, but to
- 13:58Speaker 1: see upwards of four five one hundred fans sell out
- 14:01Speaker 1: a watch party next month for the bronze game is
- 14:03Speaker 1: pretty cool, so you'll have to give us a little
- 14:05Speaker 1: shout out that day.
- 14:06Speaker 4: I think, yeah for sure. And it's been really fun
- 14:09Speaker 4: following you guys on social as well and just seeing
- 14:13Speaker 4: the craze that is there. So I appreciate you guys
- 14:16Speaker 4: having me on. This is an honor.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I thank you so much for your time. Miss Ye.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Let's see it travels to LA. It's a long trip
- 14:22Speaker 1: this weekend and we will tut these and thank you
- 14:24Speaker 1: so much. Great to hear from Missy. Matthew's a Staters
- 14:30Speaker 1: sideline reporter. As the Stadiers, you are ready for this
- 14:33Speaker 1: game against Raums this weekend, but you know as importantly
- 14:35Speaker 1: and obviously thank you for Messy coming on. Great to
- 14:38Speaker 1: chat to you boys again. Jimmy, it feels like that
- 14:40Speaker 1: bye week just dragged and it was just a weird
- 14:44Speaker 1: time to have a bye week because it was on
- 14:45Speaker 1: such a high and then it just sort of stops.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I have to say, after watching the Ravens in personal weekend,
- 14:52Speaker 1: I can't wait to watch the Staters again night because
- 14:54Speaker 1: I just wanted to get back to the you know,
- 14:56Speaker 1: the proper AFC Newarf talk and not looking at the
- 14:58Speaker 1: Ravens in London. So really, you know, genuinely excited to
- 15:02Speaker 1: see this game this weekend, but obviously as well just
- 15:06Speaker 1: heartworming to see so much black and yellow in London
- 15:08Speaker 1: last weekend. Man.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Yeah, like you said, make it it's I mean, the
- 15:13Speaker 2: last game against the Ravens finished on such a high
- 15:16Speaker 2: and we really came into our own in the latter
- 15:18Speaker 2: stages of the game. So love just hoping there's no
- 15:21Speaker 2: kind of bye week lag now as they get back
- 15:23Speaker 2: to business and they can build some momentum out for
- 15:25Speaker 2: that victory and stay in the race for for the playoffs.
- 15:30Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's mental to think that October it's
- 15:33Speaker 2: it's almost over and we're getting into November, and November
- 15:36Speaker 2: football is where you know the season is won or lost.
- 15:40Speaker 2: So a big, big fixture now against the Rams this
- 15:42Speaker 2: weekend and hopefully they can they can do the business.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I actually like, do you have actually liked the timing
- 15:51Speaker 1: of the bye week in the sense of it sort
- 15:53Speaker 1: of puts like the initial past behind it and you
- 15:55Speaker 1: move on. You see, teams sometimes have like really lit
- 15:59Speaker 1: by weeks and really early bye weeks maybe granted, give
- 16:03Speaker 1: or take another week or so, but I like it,
- 16:05Speaker 1: and it sort of pussed out focus ahead now, isn't it.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Yeah? I was originally I was a bit passimistic about
- 16:11Speaker 3: the early by week because you sort of think you're
- 16:12Speaker 3: gonna have to go through that long stretch afterwards where
- 16:15Speaker 3: you're not gonna have that much of a break. But
- 16:17Speaker 3: at the same time, if you look at it, it's
- 16:19Speaker 3: a good chance for our offense to reset, you know,
- 16:22Speaker 3: and get a few things done on the training ground
- 16:24Speaker 3: if you like so, as well as at the travel
- 16:26Speaker 3: as well, the travel to la it's another important aspect
- 16:29Speaker 3: you have to bring in it. So I was originally
- 16:31Speaker 3: a bit passimistic, Mick. But at the same time I
- 16:34Speaker 3: think it couldn't have came at a better time because
- 16:35Speaker 3: it gives us a good chance to sort of reset
- 16:38Speaker 3: and mat Us go again. So it's come at a
- 16:41Speaker 3: perfect time if you think of it. So no excuses.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Now, we were recording this on the nineteenth of October.
- 16:47Speaker 1: We're one month by from this watch party in Croke
- 16:49Speaker 1: Park sold out and Jamie has so many people d
- 16:53Speaker 1: me looking tickets. I don't have tickets. I'm sorry, folks.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Steelers Dot come Slash Ireland for more information, but for
- 17:00Speaker 1: the watch party. I presume we're going to hear more
- 17:02Speaker 1: information soon and I can only imagine the presentaon like
- 17:05Speaker 1: Maxico is gonna be class. But it's getting really close
- 17:07Speaker 1: to linem on Big Game as well.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, like you said, it's literally a month
- 17:11Speaker 2: out and I kind of wake up every morning. This
- 17:14Speaker 2: might sound a bit sad, but I'm I'm a little
- 17:16Speaker 2: bit more excited to each of every day for because
- 17:18Speaker 2: it's like, obviously it's such a momentous occasion to have
- 17:21Speaker 2: the first of its kind incro Park, and it's going
- 17:26Speaker 2: to be fantastic to meet our fellows Steelers fans, to
- 17:29Speaker 2: get get to watch a game, probably a critical game,
- 17:33Speaker 2: a crucial AFC North game against the Browns, and you know,
- 17:37Speaker 2: surrounded by Steelers fans. We're all gonna be there at cheering,
- 17:40Speaker 2: you know, enjoying each other's companies. And I think it's
- 17:43Speaker 2: it's kind of testament to how far the sport of
- 17:46Speaker 2: American football has come in Ireland. And we touched on
- 17:49Speaker 2: this previously, but it's also i mean, the Steelers have
- 17:53Speaker 2: only been marketing into Ireland since May you know that
- 17:56Speaker 2: and a few short months later we're having this massive
- 17:58Speaker 2: watch party incro Park. So I think it's just gonna
- 18:01Speaker 2: be fantastic, and I think there's gonna be many more
- 18:04Speaker 2: coming down the line after presuming this goes well, which
- 18:07Speaker 2: I wouldn't see why it wouldn't. I mean, everyone I've
- 18:10Speaker 2: talked to Steeers fans or otherwise or even NFL fans
- 18:12Speaker 2: are absolutely buzzing for the night.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Bring it on. I know it's gonna be a great night.
- 18:18Speaker 1: There's gonna be merchandise available for people to buy and
- 18:20Speaker 1: stuff seen a few whispers online. There will be more
- 18:24Speaker 1: official stuff coming out soon regards to this, and look,
- 18:28Speaker 1: genuine people have been message to me just have a
- 18:30Speaker 1: lookout at Steelers are art in the social media if
- 18:32Speaker 1: any more do become available. But it is sold out
- 18:34Speaker 1: that I guess they have sort of shows the demand
- 18:37Speaker 1: for this, and just going to what Jimmy said, it's
- 18:39Speaker 1: not even just like that there, it's like, as Jimmy said,
- 18:42Speaker 1: it's the first time it's happened, even just for general
- 18:44Speaker 1: NFL fans. Just kept behind the team and like this
- 18:46Speaker 1: is something great to support, like the first time it's happening,
- 18:49Speaker 1: and it feels like a little bit of history that
- 18:52Speaker 1: will be talent people in like thirty years remember that
- 18:54Speaker 1: night against the Browns we won thirty five zero.
- 18:59Speaker 3: That's maybe a bit optimistic. I would love to see that.
- 19:01Speaker 3: But yeah, you know what, when it was originally announced,
- 19:05Speaker 3: maybe a lot of people were thinking, oh, okay, surely
- 19:08Speaker 3: it's not going to be in Crow Park. Surely there's
- 19:10Speaker 3: somewhere off cro Parker are doing it. But it's actually
- 19:12Speaker 3: intro Park, which is fantastic. So it's one of those
- 19:16Speaker 3: things where as well, nobody really when I Risen he
- 19:19Speaker 3: first told me folks about it, there was land but
- 19:20Speaker 3: really away Crow Park, and I was just like, it's
- 19:23Speaker 3: just it's how quickly it's taken off. It's really it's
- 19:26Speaker 3: maddness when you think of it. So I'm the same
- 19:28Speaker 3: as Jimmy. I I can barely believe it as well,
- 19:30Speaker 3: you know what count And then it is at this
- 19:31Speaker 3: rate and it's still sort of like a pinch me
- 19:33Speaker 3: moment that is happening. So can't wait to get over
- 19:36Speaker 3: you know, I'm stop over here in England and hopefully
- 19:39Speaker 3: I can get it the first time being back in
- 19:41Speaker 3: a while. Soun. Then it is at this rate and
- 19:43Speaker 3: I can't wait to watch the dealers in Crow Park,
- 19:45Speaker 3: which hopefully in someday in the future, it's in a
- 19:48Speaker 3: physical not never what's the word looking for a visual
- 19:51Speaker 3: sort of thing, you know.
- 19:52Speaker 1: So fmlon Dublin as well, that's gonna be good.
- 19:56Speaker 2: It'll be good having all three of us together in
- 19:58Speaker 2: the one physical location for a change. So good to
- 20:03Speaker 2: have the the Steels podcast men together watching the game.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Hopefully on I'm sure. Look, regardless of the result, we
- 20:11Speaker 1: all want to win, it'll be it'll be a great
- 20:12Speaker 1: night's crack. Well, we'll do a podcast there before we
- 20:15Speaker 1: buy inside our Crook Park as well. We'll we'll definitely
- 20:17Speaker 1: do that and we'll hopefully get your questions, folks, are
- 20:19Speaker 1: questions for people on the night to leave it with us.
- 20:22Speaker 1: We're only we're under a month away at the time
- 20:23Speaker 1: you're listening to this now, so it is it's creeping in,
- 20:26Speaker 1: but we're getting there. Let's look, let's let's look ahead
- 20:28Speaker 1: of this game this weekend with the Rams. Like the Rams,
- 20:30Speaker 1: Jimmy haven't had the luxury of a bye week yet.
- 20:33Speaker 1: They're fleeing free in the season, but they're doing a
- 20:34Speaker 1: lot better than what people expect them to in the
- 20:37Speaker 1: sense of a lot of people, including myself, but it'd
- 20:39Speaker 1: be really poor this season, and they've got a really
- 20:43Speaker 1: efficient run game in Kirien Williams, and poking the curl
- 20:46Speaker 1: looks unreal. He's broke records three five to six weeks
- 20:49Speaker 1: for a wide receiver. Never mind off, never mind the
- 20:52Speaker 1: fact that the defense is holding up for them as well.
- 20:54Speaker 1: We'll talk about the Steelers in the second, but look,
- 20:57Speaker 1: going to Sofi, going all the way out to LA
- 20:59Speaker 1: when you're going from the East coast is not easy.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I guess the thing you would expect is Steelers fans
- 21:05Speaker 1: to travel. Well, we've seen how many Steelers fans were
- 21:07Speaker 1: in Vegas. Hopefully Steelers and the asition will fill out
- 21:10Speaker 1: so fine. That gives us an extra advantage this Sunday.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean we saw against the against the the Raiders,
- 21:17Speaker 2: how well the Steelers fans traveled to the west coast
- 21:20Speaker 2: to the desert. And there was a game against the
- 21:23Speaker 2: Chargers a couple of years ago before they moved to
- 21:26Speaker 2: so Far where they're in the old Qualcomm Stadium, and
- 21:31Speaker 2: you know, for all intents and purposes, it was a
- 21:33Speaker 2: Steelers at home game. I think they outnumbered the Chargers fans. Yeah,
- 21:37Speaker 2: they played renegade. At one point it was meant to
- 21:39Speaker 2: be a joke, but that just encouraged the Steelers fans
- 21:42Speaker 2: and the Chargers were a bit a bit upset about that,
- 21:47Speaker 2: But I think it's going to be a great it's
- 21:48Speaker 2: a good look. It's a great opportunity for the Steelers
- 21:50Speaker 2: to build the momentum we've been talking about coming back
- 21:53Speaker 2: from the bye week. Hopefully everyone's healthy. You know, we're
- 21:55Speaker 2: getting the lights of the ont the Johnson back, which
- 21:57Speaker 2: is going to be fantastic for our past game. But
- 22:01Speaker 2: I think in terms of what the series can expect,
- 22:03Speaker 2: I mean, you mentioned Karen Williams there. He went from
- 22:06Speaker 2: having I think less than ten carries last season to
- 22:09Speaker 2: becoming the feature back, and he's just he's just, you know,
- 22:12Speaker 2: become this amazing running back. And I remember watching him
- 22:17Speaker 2: in Notre Dame and thinking he's undersized, but he's a fast,
- 22:21Speaker 2: he's a home run hitter. So the Steaders will have
- 22:23Speaker 2: to prepare for him. And obviously as well, you have
- 22:25Speaker 2: two of the best receivers in the league to deal
- 22:27Speaker 2: with in Cooper Cup and Pooka Nakua who's only emerged
- 22:31Speaker 2: this season. So look, I think we're I think we're
- 22:33Speaker 2: gonna have a great shot and we just have to
- 22:36Speaker 2: there's a couple of things we have to watch out for, you.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Know, Jimmy, before we look at what we hope to
- 22:42Speaker 1: see from the Steelers this weekend. You know, looking at
- 22:44Speaker 1: the AFC North, look at no point in saying otherwise.
- 22:46Speaker 1: The Ravens at a very positive week in London, and there's
- 22:49Speaker 1: maybe a discussion for this in the offseason about the
- 22:51Speaker 1: way that they actually came over and handled themselves in
- 22:53Speaker 1: terms of the time spent there if the Steers doing
- 22:56Speaker 1: when playing our game in the Nastley, but they have
- 22:59Speaker 1: a big game against the Lion idea of and you know,
- 23:02Speaker 1: looking at the Bengals have a bie week. Seahawks face
- 23:05Speaker 1: the Browns a key opportunity this week to try and
- 23:09Speaker 1: continue to put a foot down on this division.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Yeah, just everything you've said there, Maka, that's one of
- 23:17Speaker 3: those things where we're sort of having like last week
- 23:19Speaker 3: for the double during the Bay we were sort of
- 23:21Speaker 3: watching who's playing who, and obviously you got a good
- 23:23Speaker 3: look at the Ravens again and solid performance by them.
- 23:27Speaker 3: The Bengals really look like they're starting to power right now.
- 23:30Speaker 3: If you like, I can't remember they awaited forty nine ers.
- 23:34Speaker 3: It forty nine ers next week?
- 23:35Speaker 1: Is it next week? So the Bengals are off this week.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Yeah, so the Bengals got a bi week, but then
- 23:39Speaker 3: obviously we got forty nine ers next week, and then
- 23:41Speaker 3: obviously the Browns are They've just beaten the forty nine ers.
- 23:44Speaker 3: So this AFC North Division is just although anybody can,
- 23:49Speaker 3: we can get beat by anybody. But at the same time,
- 23:50Speaker 3: it's just proven that the Browns. With the Browns beating
- 23:52Speaker 3: the forty nine ers arguably the best team in the league,
- 23:55Speaker 3: it just shows that any team in this division can
- 23:56Speaker 3: beat anybody as well. So I'm going into this him optimistic,
- 24:01Speaker 3: a fancier chances. Let's just everything Jimmy said there, you know,
- 24:04Speaker 3: but putting the coup, he's been an absolutely I standing.
- 24:07Speaker 3: But they've got Creeper Cup back as well, so you're
- 24:09Speaker 3: perventially looking at some of the best receivers in the
- 24:11Speaker 3: league all in one team. So if we can stop them,
- 24:14Speaker 3: and obviously our defense can show up and offensively, hopefully,
- 24:18Speaker 3: it's been proven that we've been working on stuff during
- 24:20Speaker 3: the day week. I can I can see it's coming
- 24:22Speaker 3: out of their will win but obviously keeping our eye
- 24:24Speaker 3: on everybody else as well. You know, we don't want
- 24:26Speaker 3: everybody else sort of being able to catch up on
- 24:28Speaker 3: us because we're still tactically leading effects, so who knows
- 24:31Speaker 3: what can happen. And then yeah, just keep our eyes
- 24:33Speaker 3: out on ourselves and hopefully that the wins will come.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Jimmy looking at the Steelers made it. You know, the
- 24:40Speaker 1: Rams took the Niners very close. They took the Bengals close.
- 24:44Speaker 1: They were close enough against the Eagles to an extent,
- 24:46Speaker 1: but the Eagles were a better team in that day.
- 24:48Speaker 1: They like to keep teams close. On one thing that
- 24:52Speaker 1: we didn't really see against the Ravens a couple of
- 24:54Speaker 1: weeks ago. And then I know you've been talking about it,
- 24:56Speaker 1: you know, religiously. I think he said on the last
- 24:58Speaker 1: podcast was just getting to the fish running game going.
- 25:00Speaker 1: It's going to be key this weekend against this Rams team.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Like I know you've been talking about how Gilian Warren
- 25:05Speaker 1: and Natty Harris can almost share reps at this point,
- 25:07Speaker 1: but this we need to see this run game this
- 25:09Speaker 1: week just to merge.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I don't think we can afford any more
- 25:13Speaker 2: slow start snick, to be honest, with you. I mean,
- 25:16Speaker 2: we had terribly slow starting against the Ravens, and it
- 25:18Speaker 2: was really only when we blocked that punt and almost
- 25:20Speaker 2: score a touchdown that kind of jump started us a
- 25:23Speaker 2: little bit. It made it made us wake up and realized, Okay,
- 25:25Speaker 2: we can actually do something here. So I don't think
- 25:28Speaker 2: we can afford to do that against the against the Rams.
- 25:33Speaker 2: You know that Stafford hasn't been as proficient as we've
- 25:36Speaker 2: seen in the past. He's still he's still a very
- 25:39Speaker 2: good quarterback. He has multiple weapons, and we can't let
- 25:43Speaker 2: them to get going. We have to establish the run
- 25:45Speaker 2: game fast and early, and then use the run game
- 25:49Speaker 2: to open up the passing game.
- 25:50Speaker 1: You know.
- 25:51Speaker 2: That's I mean, that's one of the the oldest sayings
- 25:53Speaker 2: in football is you have to use the running game
- 25:55Speaker 2: to open up the passing game. So there's a lot
- 25:58Speaker 2: of things we still need to improve on, and that
- 26:01Speaker 2: I hope he can address this weekend against against the Rams.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Indeed, just looking at Sean McVay two or three years ago,
- 26:09Speaker 1: whenever they won the Super Bowl in their home stadium,
- 26:11Speaker 1: they had a game wrecker in arn Donald who just
- 26:14Speaker 1: turned that game against the Bengals in the Super Bowl well,
- 26:18Speaker 1: Sean McVay this week is called yourman TJ. Waden nightmare,
- 26:21Speaker 1: and he's going to have to be all of the
- 26:23Speaker 1: stop Maffy Stafford in this Rams offense this week because
- 26:26Speaker 1: you feel like Dave, if the Steelers defense can just
- 26:28Speaker 1: get it go home early like the offense, as Jimmy
- 26:31Speaker 1: has said, there you know, no stop, but just get
- 26:34Speaker 1: it going early. If they can shut stop for Dinah.
- 26:36Speaker 1: But you could just take intron of the game this Sunday.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Yeah, you imagine they're a bac. They imagine that TJ.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Wats a bit of a class the Titans. This is
- 26:44Speaker 3: probably the two best defensive players over the past ten
- 26:47Speaker 3: years going up against each other, and it's maybe gonna
- 26:50Speaker 3: come down to who's going to be able to perform
- 26:52Speaker 3: on the day and who knows you could could provide
- 26:54Speaker 3: the key player that will let us to win. So
- 26:56Speaker 3: and coming back to that, you know, high weekends, maybe
- 26:59Speaker 3: stop of every belief in the offensive line. Of course
- 27:03Speaker 3: we're not the greatest on the StatSheet, but if we
- 27:05Speaker 3: can stop ar Donald and putting pressure on Canny. Also
- 27:10Speaker 3: if we're getting you know, the pressure that we know
- 27:11Speaker 3: we can get on Stafford, putting a bit of pressure
- 27:13Speaker 3: of them.
- 27:13Speaker 2: He did.
- 27:14Speaker 3: Even when he played for Detroit, he did have a
- 27:16Speaker 3: bit of a turnover issue and it has sort of
- 27:19Speaker 3: led into his career with the Rams. But I think
- 27:21Speaker 3: if we've got the players to do it, and if
- 27:24Speaker 3: we just can get that execution both on the offensive
- 27:26Speaker 3: side of the ball on the defensive side of the ball,
- 27:29Speaker 3: we're not going to be far away. So fingers cross.
- 27:31Speaker 3: That will happen, and then every feff does, and hopefully
- 27:34Speaker 3: that the leaders to coming out with Gwen.
- 27:38Speaker 1: The Impicks. Here we go, and I mean here we go, Jimmy,
- 27:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna say the Steelers is going to tight one
- 27:43Speaker 1: seventeen of fourteen. The Rams have given up over four
- 27:46Speaker 1: hundred yards and fleet touchdowns for to six weeks. The
- 27:49Speaker 1: tight ends pot Fiarmus back move gets a touchdown, Steelers
- 27:53Speaker 1: get the win. Seventeen fourteen, get back to Pittsburgh top
- 27:56Speaker 1: of the AFC North because the Lions are going to
- 27:58Speaker 1: beat the Ravens. Hopefully, give me some good news. One.
- 28:03Speaker 2: I'm inclined to agree that it's going to be a
- 28:05Speaker 2: tight game, but I have faith.
- 28:08Speaker 1: You look.
- 28:10Speaker 2: The first three quarters of that Ravens game. I was
- 28:13Speaker 2: sitting there go what in the name of God is
- 28:14Speaker 2: going on? They surprise me. They snapped themselves out of
- 28:19Speaker 2: the roost. They got some big smash plays, that touchdown pass,
- 28:22Speaker 2: and Kenny to George was I think of beauty. We
- 28:25Speaker 2: want to see more than that. I want to see
- 28:26Speaker 2: Pickens get two touchdowns this week, and I want to
- 28:29Speaker 2: finally see a rushing touchdown. So I'm going to go
- 28:32Speaker 2: Steeters twenty four to twenty one over the Rams in
- 28:35Speaker 2: the close one.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I love it. Dave has to be a full houes,
- 28:38Speaker 1: come on.
- 28:40Speaker 3: Horses, the full house, and I fancied the Steelers twenty
- 28:43Speaker 3: at twenty four. I'm just agreeing with everything Jimmy saying
- 28:45Speaker 3: at the street. But it's you know, great man is thinking,
- 28:48Speaker 3: like what can I say? But yeah, just to sort
- 28:51Speaker 3: of act of everything he said, if we can just
- 28:53Speaker 3: instead of you know, leaving it through the fourth quarter,
- 28:55Speaker 3: actually provide a few splash players and a few key
- 28:58Speaker 3: players in the defense side of the ball. If we
- 29:00Speaker 3: can do that from Dad out and put Stafford under
- 29:02Speaker 3: pressure obviously that you know, Karen Williams is out. He's
- 29:05Speaker 3: a great running back to have, and then if we
- 29:08Speaker 3: can just put pressure on him, you know, force a
- 29:10Speaker 3: few turnovers early unsettled them. I have absolute faith that
- 29:14Speaker 3: we can come back and win. So I go in
- 29:15Speaker 3: twenty at twenty four and take that to the bank.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Take it to the bankman, Man. You can listen to
- 29:21Speaker 1: the game folks in Ireland on Off the Ball Sports.
- 29:24Speaker 1: The game is not on Sky Sports in Ireland or
