- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: We're back with Lizzie and Chad from the Game of
- 0:10Speaker 2: Roses podcast. We have more questions, more discussions. I'm intrigued,
- 0:16Speaker 2: Ashley's intrigued. We just came off of a golden season
- 0:21Speaker 2: that you have both been publicly quoted by saying you
- 0:25Speaker 2: did not enjoy it.
- 0:29Speaker 3: I've also been like wow, like Meil will never come
- 0:32Speaker 3: on this podcast.
- 0:33Speaker 4: I couldn't hold back.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I think it would help us and our listeners because
- 0:39Speaker 2: they've heard us for weeks now kind of walk through
- 0:42Speaker 2: episode by episode and break down what we liked and
- 0:46Speaker 2: didn't like and what was missing and not missing. But
- 0:49Speaker 2: we are doing it from an opinion and from our
- 0:53Speaker 2: own personal opinions. We don't have any really study in
- 0:57Speaker 2: it other than how we feel watching the show and
- 0:59Speaker 2: how disconnected we felt watching this season. I also want
- 1:03Speaker 2: to say this, and I know I'm long winded here.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I had a lot of high hopes for the Golden Show.
- 1:09Speaker 2: I did, and I still do. I don't think it's
- 1:12Speaker 2: I think somebody could take it over and really make
- 1:14Speaker 2: it a success. Still, I think what we've seen this
- 1:17Speaker 2: last season, it might be the death sentence for the
- 1:19Speaker 2: current reality that we know the Golden to be. But
- 1:24Speaker 2: what actually made from your opinions and the more study
- 1:27Speaker 2: of it, what made this season so bad? And mel
- 1:32Speaker 2: is a lead, so you know, disconnected for the two
- 1:35Speaker 2: of you, in.
- 1:36Speaker 4: My opinion, very simple. It's for tr R for the
- 1:39Speaker 4: right reasons. He was not the before they even started shooting.
- 1:43Speaker 4: He did that podcast where he basically said everything the
- 1:46Speaker 4: Golden Bachelor is, I'm against it, and they were like, well,
- 1:49Speaker 4: let's keep him. That's still a good guy to have.
- 1:51Speaker 4: We don't need to recast, and then they shoot a
- 1:53Speaker 4: whole goddamn season with the guy that ends with him
- 1:55Speaker 4: telling the two finalists, I'm not into getting married.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Screw this.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Even like Cindy said it, there's a wedding ring in
- 2:03Speaker 4: the logo of the show. Dude, what are you doing?
- 2:05Speaker 4: So he was the antithesis of what the premise of
- 2:09Speaker 4: the show is from before they started shooting to the
- 2:11Speaker 4: final goddamn rose and on top of that, this man
- 2:16Speaker 4: was watching paint dry. This is the most boring lead
- 2:18Speaker 4: we have probably ever had. So if you're gonna be
- 2:21Speaker 4: against the premise of the show and you're the lead
- 2:23Speaker 4: at least be funny or crazy or something. This guy
- 2:26Speaker 4: gave us nothing. Most of his one on one conversations
- 2:28Speaker 4: would be one of the players being like, so do
- 2:30Speaker 4: you want to travel?
- 2:31Speaker 2: What do you like?
- 2:31Speaker 4: And he's just like eeh, cool, dude, funny. Like it
- 2:37Speaker 4: was unbearable to watch this man, and unfortunately he had
- 2:41Speaker 4: some incredible players on his season. And this goes back
- 2:44Speaker 4: to what I was talking about earlier. You need to
- 2:46Speaker 4: have like the lead sole function really is kind of
- 2:49Speaker 4: like the game master. You are selecting this order of
- 2:53Speaker 4: twenty five to thirty people which order they're getting kicked off,
- 2:57Speaker 4: and the producers are manipulating that to some degree that
- 2:59Speaker 4: like you know who your top three are, and the
- 3:01Speaker 4: rest of it is just arranging those deck chairs in
- 3:03Speaker 4: a way that is like entertaining enough and for the
- 3:06Speaker 4: lead viable to be believable enough that they're kicking you
- 3:10Speaker 4: off for a valid reason. And the lead is not
- 3:12Speaker 4: the asshole. Mel had this just smorgas board of elite
- 3:17Speaker 4: players in his season, and they didn't get to play
- 3:20Speaker 4: against him because I don't think he understood what he
- 3:23Speaker 4: was supposed.
- 3:23Speaker 2: To be doing as a lead.
- 3:24Speaker 4: He was just like, I'm here to find somebody to
- 3:27Speaker 4: date for two years and it's like, oh my god, dude,
- 3:29Speaker 4: what are you doing it all?
- 3:32Speaker 5: It's also season one we had Gary, and you know,
- 3:37Speaker 5: whatever has come out now about Gary has come out,
- 3:40Speaker 5: but we were so emotionally connected to his storyline and
- 3:45Speaker 5: I'm you know, I'm definitely the Ashley of Chad, and
- 3:49Speaker 5: I like, I'm extremely gullible and I cry a lot.
- 3:52Speaker 5: And I cried in so many of those episodes because
- 3:56Speaker 5: Gary was like, he had this great PTC with his
- 4:00Speaker 5: his wife and he was able to connect with these women.
- 4:04Speaker 5: And the players on that season were extraordinary. I wish
- 4:07Speaker 5: they had had some repeats. Actually on this season, he
- 4:12Speaker 5: felt very present with every person he's talking to. Mellow couldn't.
- 4:19Speaker 5: I don't know where he was. He was not in
- 4:21Speaker 5: those conversations and they were pulling teeth.
- 4:24Speaker 4: There's an image from that season where it was right
- 4:28Speaker 4: when Cindy self eliminated, which, by the way, is like
- 4:30Speaker 4: a cardinal sin. It's an error you never want to commit,
- 4:32Speaker 4: but I think she actually did it correctly.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very rare.
- 4:36Speaker 4: I want to do it because it immediately ends your
- 4:39Speaker 4: screen time, and who knows what you can do with
- 4:43Speaker 4: any other screen time, you know, but I think she
- 4:44Speaker 4: did it properly actually. But there's a shot of Mel
- 4:48Speaker 4: sitting there in a beach chair as the fireworks are
- 4:51Speaker 4: going off behind him, just expressionless, just stone faced in
- 4:56Speaker 4: this moment that like usually in any other Bachelor season,
- 4:58Speaker 4: the lead is crying, the fireworks are a sad thing.
- 5:01Speaker 4: He's just sitting there like it looks like he's about
- 5:04Speaker 4: to fall asleep. And that image to me was just like,
- 5:06Speaker 4: that's it. That's the whole season right there. This woman
- 5:10Speaker 4: that he supposedly was on the way to quotes falling
- 5:14Speaker 4: in love with her, whatever left him, and he's sitting
- 5:16Speaker 4: under the fireworks by himself. It just doesn't give a
- 5:20Speaker 4: sh now.
- 5:21Speaker 2: My last comment to this before I pass it back
- 5:24Speaker 2: to Ashley, because she's probably over there like jumping him
- 5:26Speaker 2: down our chair wanting to talk. I'm not gonna let.
- 5:36Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:36Speaker 2: I know, I know you would be this way and
- 5:40Speaker 2: that's okay, But my only thing is and I just
- 5:44Speaker 2: want either reinforcement or I want to have the two
- 5:47Speaker 2: of you as experts here shut me down. I coming
- 5:51Speaker 2: off of the Bachelor season, I've gotten you know, people
- 5:56Speaker 2: have talked to me about this comment. I made and
- 6:00Speaker 2: some agree and some don't. But my argument is, this season,
- 6:05Speaker 2: or the Golden franchise in total, would be better if
- 6:11Speaker 2: they would have brought somebody in that's eighty three years
- 6:13Speaker 2: old who literally has you know, a story maybe similar
- 6:18Speaker 2: to Gary's, or you know, life has somehow passed them
- 6:21Speaker 2: up and they've never met anybody, but they have that intimacy,
- 6:24Speaker 2: that sweetness, that authenticity that we could relate with. Because
- 6:29Speaker 2: I think that's why I liked the Golden Show was
- 6:32Speaker 2: to watch my grandparents try to find this second chapter
- 6:37Speaker 2: of life in a beautiful way. So I guess my
- 6:39Speaker 2: question is, would you two agree that this season take
- 6:42Speaker 2: Mel out of it? Because I know you're going to say, well,
- 6:44Speaker 2: any of the thing would have been better than this,
- 6:46Speaker 2: But do you think the Golden could could be better
- 6:49Speaker 2: if they were actually up the age group a little bit.
- 6:52Speaker 5: I don't know if it has anything to do with
- 6:54Speaker 5: necessarily the age, and I will give Mellow the benefit
- 6:59Speaker 5: of the I do kind of think that after after
- 7:06Speaker 5: the podcast came out and he got so much hate,
- 7:08Speaker 5: I do think he was very fearful and that maybe
- 7:13Speaker 5: explains part of why he was so tight lipped during
- 7:17Speaker 5: his season. But like someone like Charles coming off of
- 7:23Speaker 5: Jones season, Like, to me, that's like a sweet, sweet man.
- 7:28Speaker 5: I want to see that man find love. I do
- 7:31Speaker 5: think they had some candidates already.
- 7:33Speaker 2: He brought me more tears than any contestant in history.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Charles like legit like like tears in my eyes with
- 7:40Speaker 2: my wife and I would watch it and we're like,
- 7:41Speaker 2: I just love I want this man to find that person.
- 7:46Speaker 3: I think they would have had a really successful season
- 7:49Speaker 3: with him exactly.
- 7:50Speaker 4: That's ninety percent of it, is like you are the
- 7:54Speaker 4: show for all of us in the fourth audience, myself
- 7:57Speaker 4: and Lizzie included, is it's for us to live vicariously.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Through these people.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Whether you're identifying with the bachelor and you're like, oh
- 8:04Speaker 4: my god, he's getting a second chance or she's getting
- 8:06Speaker 4: a second chance at love later in life. We hope
- 8:08Speaker 4: they find it. You're either on that ride or you're
- 8:10Speaker 4: on the ride with one of the players, whatever capacity
- 8:13Speaker 4: that may be, Like if you want them to win
- 8:15Speaker 4: a rivalry or win a group date, rows or whatever,
- 8:18Speaker 4: and you just didn't have that with Mel. Nobody was
- 8:21Speaker 4: living vicariously through Mel because it was unclear if he
- 8:23Speaker 4: was even living at all in the program. It just
- 8:28Speaker 4: like the decision is so bizarre to me. I know
- 8:31Speaker 4: Jessica Castro came in as the showrunner of the Golden
- 8:33Speaker 4: franchise for this season that it was her first season,
- 8:36Speaker 4: and I don't think it was her fault. She got hamstrung.
- 8:38Speaker 4: ABC was like, he's the guy. The podcast comes out.
- 8:42Speaker 4: ABC is like, forget that, he's still the guy. They
- 8:45Speaker 4: had time to recast this and they did not.
- 8:48Speaker 3: So that begs the question. This is something that my Heather,
- 8:51Speaker 3: my Heather for our producer. Heather and I were talking
- 8:56Speaker 3: about last week. Do you think that this was a
- 9:00Speaker 3: choice by ABC executives, like there was somebody in that
- 9:04Speaker 3: upper echelon that was like, this must be the Golden Bachelor,
- 9:08Speaker 3: or do you think this was casting.
- 9:10Speaker 4: I think it was ABC one hundred percent. And I
- 9:12Speaker 4: also I think, to me, this is just again my
- 9:14Speaker 4: two cents. I have some data to back this up
- 9:17Speaker 4: if you will, But uh, I think ABC for the
- 9:21Speaker 4: most part has an attitude about the franchise. Eh, we've
- 9:25Speaker 4: gotten what we've gotten out of it. It's been a
- 9:26Speaker 4: good run. I think they've kind of written it off
- 9:29Speaker 4: and they're just like throwing at the wall. And if
- 9:31Speaker 4: it works. I'm this is what I this is what
- 9:34Speaker 4: my little birdies are telling me. And so I think
- 9:37Speaker 4: they're looking at it as like, yeah, whatever, we've already
- 9:39Speaker 4: cast this guy. It's more work, more effort to try
- 9:42Speaker 4: and cast somebody new who cares Golden does well for us,
- 9:45Speaker 4: or I guess even at that point, it was on
- 9:46Speaker 4: a downward slope after Jen Vasso season. But the Taylor
- 9:50Speaker 4: Frankie Paul thing, I think is like them saying, let's
- 9:53Speaker 4: do something crazy and see if we can revitalize this. Okay,
- 9:57Speaker 4: we think it'll work, honestly, and hopeful the rising tide
- 10:01Speaker 4: lifts all ships and that'll be good for Golden and
- 10:03Speaker 4: good for a Bachelor and good for all.
- 10:05Speaker 2: The different pieces of the franchise.
- 10:06Speaker 4: But yeah, I think ABC just has this attitude of
- 10:09Speaker 4: like it had a good run.
- 10:12Speaker 6: Oh okay, wow.
- 10:13Speaker 5: I have no little birdies. But I think it's some
- 10:16Speaker 5: sort of NFL conspiracy expand I just think the Bachelor
- 10:23Speaker 5: is super tied to the NFL, and they're like, Okay,
- 10:28Speaker 5: he's a football guy. He's good on paper.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Because of Jesse and Colton and Tyler Cameron.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess he was an NFL wake Forest, Matt James.
- 10:39Speaker 4: They're like D one college football and NFL is just
- 10:42Speaker 4: a pipeline straight into the Bachelor. How many cheerleaders you
- 10:45Speaker 4: have and all that kind of stuff.
- 10:47Speaker 3: What about miss usay that I feel like.
- 10:48Speaker 5: With sure, Yeah, I think it's football and pageants. Those
- 10:53Speaker 5: used to be the two pipelines.
- 10:55Speaker 2: And you can I can confirm, I will confirm this
- 11:00Speaker 2: that in the past, I don't know anymore. I can't
- 11:04Speaker 2: speak to this current crew. I don't know any of them.
- 11:08Speaker 2: And Mike Flie is no longer he's still I don't know.
- 11:11Speaker 2: I think he's still in the credit, so I don't
- 11:13Speaker 2: really know what he's doing. Yeah, I know what's happening there.
- 11:18Speaker 2: But the Ashley, I do know that there was an
- 11:21Speaker 2: obsession with the NFL during our time and and probably
- 11:27Speaker 2: still exists today with some executives that are still a
- 11:30Speaker 2: part of it, like a deep obsession with being close
- 11:33Speaker 2: to the National Football League. It is not like a
- 11:36Speaker 2: conspiracy tie. There's nothing secret about other than this obsession.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Wait, Jesse and Colton are the only people I can
- 11:44Speaker 3: think that were actually in the NFL.
- 11:46Speaker 2: And also this overlap where Jesse Palmer was hired because
- 11:52Speaker 2: he's talented. We love Jesse. He's great, he's he had
- 11:54Speaker 2: an impossible role to fill. He also had a really
- 11:58Speaker 2: a really good on track with Disney that allowed him
- 12:03Speaker 2: to be the host of the Bachelor for a lot
- 12:06Speaker 2: smaller amount of money than what Chris Harrison was getting paid.
- 12:10Speaker 2: And so that just made sense. Uh so there is
- 12:13Speaker 2: that there. I do agree with that.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Okay, well, I can keep you guys forever. Oh no, no,
- 12:18Speaker 3: you could, you could do.
- 12:20Speaker 4: I was just gonna say, almost every season has at
- 12:22Speaker 4: least one group day at an NFL stadium with a
- 12:24Speaker 4: special celebrity NFL guest that's going to teach you how
- 12:27Speaker 4: to play tackle football and one player gets a concussion
- 12:30Speaker 4: and they never mentioned it in the show. Something like
- 12:32Speaker 4: that happens almost every season.
- 12:34Speaker 3: And producer Heather is also saying that Ryan Sutter was
- 12:37Speaker 3: in the NFL first art.
- 12:38Speaker 4: What was he really?
- 12:39Speaker 5: What the poet?
- 12:41Speaker 2: No, Ryan Sutter actually has the and again I love Ryan.
- 12:45Speaker 2: This is but I believe we can look this up.
- 12:47Speaker 2: He has the shortest NFL in the history of the NFL.
- 12:50Speaker 2: He was good, really good played for believe the Ravens,
- 12:55Speaker 2: and on his very first play of the very first game,
- 12:58Speaker 2: got injured and never could football again. I think it
- 13:01Speaker 2: was a seven second career he had in the NFL.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Why is this story so buried in our lore?
- 13:07Speaker 4: For real?
- 13:07Speaker 5: I can't believe this.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Yeah, and then Lauri to Bachelor.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Nation he's incredible. Yeah, he's a great athlete. I will
- 13:16Speaker 2: I will actually find the article and send it to
- 13:18Speaker 2: you guys, but we can fact check me. He could
- 13:20Speaker 2: have been great, but he did get hurt.
- 13:22Speaker 4: That's incredible.
- 13:23Speaker 3: The question I've been dying to ask you guys for
- 13:25Speaker 3: a bit now, is your bachelor who never was? Especially
- 13:31Speaker 3: when we were talking about Cindy, I thought that Cindy
- 13:33Speaker 3: is probably my golden bachelorette. That may never be my
- 13:38Speaker 3: ultimate bachelor.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Who can I guess? Yes, Peter Cross, Yes that's mine too.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I still dream of the day it's not gonna happen.
- 13:52Speaker 3: He's engaged with a baby on the way. I'm so
- 13:54Speaker 3: happy for him, but that was a loss for us
- 13:57Speaker 3: as a fridge.
- 13:58Speaker 5: Oh god, he's the one that got away for so many.
- 14:01Speaker 4: Yeah, that's rough. Even now you're bringing it up and
- 14:04Speaker 4: I'm just like my days, No.
- 14:05Speaker 3: I know, almost like in my mind he did have
- 14:08Speaker 3: his own season.
- 14:10Speaker 4: I know it somewhere. It exists in the multiverse somewhat.
- 14:14Speaker 4: There is a planet Earth that has the Peter Cross
- 14:16Speaker 4: Bachelor season in twenty eighteen, and we're all better off
- 14:20Speaker 4: for it.
- 14:22Speaker 5: I immediately think of Tyler Cameron and how hard everyone
- 14:26Speaker 5: would fight if they were on that season.
- 14:28Speaker 3: That's funny that, like with Time, Peter's It's time that
- 14:35Speaker 3: with Time, Peter's still the one that got away, even
- 14:38Speaker 3: though Tyler is like on the map. I think Tyler's
- 14:41Speaker 3: story played out perfectly the way that it did. I
- 14:44Speaker 3: think that Peter was just such a bachelor.
- 14:47Speaker 5: I mean, they gave him the edit of like he's
- 14:49Speaker 5: the one that should be with Rachel, and they kind
- 14:53Speaker 5: of minimize ab a solo in that, and.
- 14:56Speaker 4: I would say modern era Blake Moins. I think that
- 14:59Speaker 4: guy got such a raw deal. I know it was
- 15:02Speaker 4: dangled in front of him for many years in a row,
- 15:06Speaker 4: and it was like, yep, this is gonna happen, and
- 15:08Speaker 4: then it just didn't and he got passed over and
- 15:10Speaker 4: passed over. And that guy has like some incredible stats.
- 15:13Speaker 4: I think if he got the crown, he would be
- 15:16Speaker 4: in contention for the greatest player of all time. I
- 15:18Speaker 4: think he would I mean he won a ring, so
- 15:22Speaker 4: like that already puts him above Nick Vile, at least
- 15:26Speaker 4: in terms of that one metric. But he also did
- 15:28Speaker 4: what Viole did. He crashed a season Katie Thurston's and
- 15:31Speaker 4: then won the ring of that season instead of coming
- 15:33Speaker 4: in second place. He was also in Claire Crawley's prior season,
- 15:37Speaker 4: so he was in back to back seasons as a player,
- 15:39Speaker 4: just like Viole. He did do some paradise. If he
- 15:42Speaker 4: would have gotten the crown, I think that puts him
- 15:45Speaker 4: over the top, but he never did.
- 15:47Speaker 5: I also think Mike Johnson was robbed. Oh god, we
- 15:50Speaker 5: recently rewatched Hnnah's season and he is He's electric on camera.
- 15:57Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:08Speaker 3: What do you guys think of Emily Maynard? Since Emily
- 16:11Speaker 3: hasn't come up a conversation. I think she's a fantastic.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Player, Oh absolutely.
- 16:15Speaker 4: And the stuff that they put her through was like
- 16:17Speaker 4: wild the race car group date. You're just like, are
- 16:21Speaker 4: they doing this to her? I guess, so here we go.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Like she had to endure some of the I think
- 16:28Speaker 4: some of the most malevolent producer practices like maybe in
- 16:31Speaker 4: the history of the show, and she came out of
- 16:33Speaker 4: it like flawless was Her season was perfect as a rookie.
- 16:37Speaker 4: Her her bachelorette season was fantastic. Yeah, she was definitely
- 16:41Speaker 4: one of the like on the Mount Rushmore Bachelor.
- 16:44Speaker 2: She should be up there.
- 16:45Speaker 5: We also talked about her a lot recently with Taylor
- 16:48Speaker 5: Frankie Paul getting the call because she was a package deal.
- 16:53Speaker 5: We know that they gave her like a record amount
- 16:57Speaker 5: of money to be the lead, and I'm like, if
- 17:01Speaker 5: I'm Taylor Frankie Paul, I'm like, I want at least
- 17:03Speaker 5: Maynard money.
- 17:05Speaker 2: I might have a record for the lowest amount of money,
- 17:08Speaker 2: but that any lead's ever gotten paid.
- 17:13Speaker 4: You're negotiating against yourself. You're like, I know you want
- 17:15Speaker 4: to get two hundred thousand dollars. How about we do
- 17:17Speaker 4: it for fifty.
- 17:19Speaker 5: You're like, wait, you guys all didn't pay to be
- 17:22Speaker 5: the lead.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it really could be a record. And yeah, Ashley,
- 17:30Speaker 2: we watched Emily Maynard have to go on a race
- 17:32Speaker 2: card date and Ashley says, I trust these people. They
- 17:34Speaker 2: have my best interests in mine.
- 17:37Speaker 3: I totally went also, oh my god, by.
- 17:40Speaker 4: All the evidence I have just seen too much at
- 17:42Speaker 4: this point in terms of like we've been doing our
- 17:45Speaker 4: show gives for about six years. Over the course of it,
- 17:48Speaker 4: every once in a while I just get a weird
- 17:49Speaker 4: DM from a player, a producer, whatever. Meet me at
- 17:53Speaker 4: the Peninsula Hotel at eleven tonight. I'll tell you everything,
- 17:56Speaker 4: and then I'm shown documents. I'm shown all kinds of
- 17:59Speaker 4: stuff that no civilian should ever have laid eyes on.
- 18:03Speaker 4: And it's like, the picture of what this thing is
- 18:06Speaker 4: now to me is clear in a way that I
- 18:08Speaker 4: think is maybe not clear even to players and stuff.
- 18:11Speaker 2: At this point, to kind of close here, let's uh,
- 18:16Speaker 2: we have five minutes until our next thing. Do you
- 18:22Speaker 2: have any questions for us? Obviously we can turn the
- 18:26Speaker 2: table a little bit. I know there's probably some stuff
- 18:28Speaker 2: sitting out there. Do you have any questions for Ashley
- 18:30Speaker 2: or myself? As we close, God, I'm.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Like, oh Jesus, two thousand questions into one or two.
- 18:39Speaker 5: Well, okay, this could be our part too, for real.
- 18:42Speaker 4: I would love to go through both of your rookie
- 18:44Speaker 4: seasons with you, like play by play at some point
- 18:47Speaker 4: if possible. But my question is would you have done
- 18:53Speaker 4: I guess let me ask this one. If you could
- 18:55Speaker 4: be a lead then in any other era, what would it.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Do you have changed it or do you think you
- 19:01Speaker 2: were a lead at the right time. I think I
- 19:04Speaker 2: said earlier, I think I was a lead at the
- 19:05Speaker 2: right time. I do think that, and this will be
- 19:11Speaker 2: very self promoting of me. I'll just get weirded out
- 19:14Speaker 2: when I think I could help the show today, because
- 19:18Speaker 2: I do think there's an like, there was an earnestness
- 19:22Speaker 2: and authenticity to my pursuit of if this doesn't work out,
- 19:27Speaker 2: at least I hope the contestants enjoy being here, and
- 19:29Speaker 2: so let's try to make the most of a really
- 19:32Speaker 2: weird situation. And as a result of that, let me
- 19:36Speaker 2: really focus on the human stories coming out of this,
- 19:39Speaker 2: because I think if anything else, at least their stories
- 19:41Speaker 2: could be told and they'll get to know themselves a
- 19:44Speaker 2: little better. I do think that could help the show today,
- 19:47Speaker 2: because I don't know how well the recent leads have
- 19:51Speaker 2: pulled those stories out of people and said, hey, no,
- 19:53Speaker 2: this is going to be good. Like let's not We're
- 19:56Speaker 2: not gonna expose you and hurt you. Let's do this
- 20:00Speaker 2: and like make it a good thing. So I do
- 20:02Speaker 2: think today would been would be something that could be
- 20:04Speaker 2: fun to be a part of. But I think I
- 20:07Speaker 2: was at the right time because it was coming off
- 20:10Speaker 2: of all these so many different personalities leading a show.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Caitlyn and I could be more different, yeah, but the
- 20:16Speaker 2: best of friends. But yeah, I think today.
- 20:20Speaker 4: All right, Ashley, my question for you is, if you
- 20:23Speaker 4: were back in your playing days and Love Island would
- 20:27Speaker 4: have existed, would you have gone on Love Island?
- 20:31Speaker 1: No.
- 20:33Speaker 3: I say this as somebody who's only watched one episode
- 20:36Speaker 3: of Love Island, like during.
- 20:37Speaker 6: COVID, so it was years ago.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Okay, I had to turn it off because I was
- 20:42Speaker 3: so uncomfortable based on how.
- 20:44Speaker 6: Sexual it wash.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Like the guy was like showing off that he had
- 20:48Speaker 3: slept with four hundred women, and I was like, I
- 20:51Speaker 3: just this is so yucky to me, So like that
- 20:55Speaker 3: kind of raunchy just doesn't appeal to me. Even though
- 20:58Speaker 3: I would have been like some sort of weird unicorn
- 21:00Speaker 3: in that universe, still I don't think it would I
- 21:03Speaker 3: would have fared well in that environment with like all
- 21:05Speaker 3: these like horny people.
- 21:06Speaker 4: I think you would have been a superstar popping out
- 21:09Speaker 4: of whatever's season you were on because of your what
- 21:11Speaker 4: we call a PVC personal virginity card. I think it
- 21:14Speaker 4: would have isolated you from the other players and allowed
- 21:16Speaker 4: you to play a certain structured game that they can't play,
- 21:19Speaker 4: where you can kind of like do you know less,
- 21:24Speaker 4: as you put it, raunchy version of all the challenges,
- 21:26Speaker 4: so you don't have to be twerking, you don't have
- 21:28Speaker 4: to have the guys grinding on you. And because of that,
- 21:30Speaker 4: you become kind of like an elevated player in that player.
- 21:33Speaker 5: Pool, a better version of Bell Dasha.
- 21:37Speaker 3: If you watch that, I do want to ask you, guys,
- 21:40Speaker 3: like where do I point up by like marrying somebody
- 21:44Speaker 3: that nobody thought I would marry a million?
- 21:48Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 21:48Speaker 4: I mean it's one of the greatest out of game
- 21:52Speaker 4: plays while still in the player pool. I mean legit
- 21:55Speaker 4: it is because you kind of came into your Paradise
- 21:58Speaker 4: season with that as an agenda, all laser focused on Jared,
- 22:04Speaker 4: you know, and now here you have this life with
- 22:07Speaker 4: him and a family and a business and all this stuff.
- 22:10Speaker 4: It's wild to me. And I think, like Lizzie and
- 22:13Speaker 4: I always talk about, like where do we define play?
- 22:16Speaker 4: Is it only in game? Is it only in the document?
- 22:18Speaker 4: Or does what happens to these people after the like
- 22:21Speaker 4: with Viles podcast in Kaitlyn Bristol's podcast and all of
- 22:24Speaker 4: her hosting jobs and stuff. Is that part of their
- 22:27Speaker 4: you know, kind of career. I always think there's some
- 22:30Speaker 4: gray area, but I will say your post game career
- 22:32Speaker 4: is like it doesn't You're You're in like the top
- 22:36Speaker 4: two or three. I think of all Bachelor players in
- 22:37Speaker 4: the history of the game.
- 22:39Speaker 5: I watched that whole long, like hour long thing when
- 22:43Speaker 5: you got together on YouTube, and I never watched YouTube.
- 22:49Speaker 2: There's also this really beautiful like that nobody that worked
- 22:53Speaker 2: on the show didn't believe that Ashley and Jared would
- 22:56Speaker 2: end up together one day.
- 22:57Speaker 3: They just on the show, everybody, like the producer.
- 23:00Speaker 2: And so there was a really I know. So there's
- 23:04Speaker 2: a really beautiful I think way that the show navigated
- 23:09Speaker 2: their relationship because they kept bringing them back in at
- 23:12Speaker 2: the right moments to elevate their time together. And I
- 23:15Speaker 2: don't think we see that kind of I'm just using
- 23:18Speaker 2: your words gameplay from the show today. That strategy of
- 23:22Speaker 2: this is a couple that people are gonna love. It's
- 23:24Speaker 2: going to enhance our brand, it's going to help, you know,
- 23:27Speaker 2: us get known as the show for love. And so
- 23:30Speaker 2: let's keep bringing them back, Let's keep giving them touch points.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Let's keep them around the live events together. And that
- 23:37Speaker 2: was very strategic. That was very much a they're going
- 23:40Speaker 2: to figure it out one day, we just don't know when,
- 23:43Speaker 2: and so let's keep them around until they do.
- 23:45Speaker 4: God, that's almost heartbreaking to hear because it's like it's
- 23:49Speaker 4: so different now. Now it's just like, get them in there,
- 23:52Speaker 4: we need to re engagements. Here's five hundred thousand dollars
- 23:55Speaker 4: separating into three arbitrary envelopes of random amounts of money,
- 23:58Speaker 4: and you're just like, what am I watching? What is
- 24:00Speaker 4: going on?
- 24:02Speaker 2: I think we can all know, though, who masterminded that
- 24:05Speaker 2: strategy and who was in it long enough to say
- 24:08Speaker 2: the long play here is better than the forced play
- 24:12Speaker 2: of this. So let's keep this going. And if you
- 24:16Speaker 2: were in that crowd at the time, if you probably
- 24:18Speaker 2: weren't Ashley or Jared, you're like, no, this is one
- 24:21Speaker 2: hundred percent what they're doing. Ashley and Jared were just
- 24:23Speaker 2: on their own little journey at the pace they needed
- 24:25Speaker 2: to be so that they can have a beautiful family
- 24:27Speaker 2: and a beautiful marriage.
- 24:40Speaker 5: I'd see.
- 24:40Speaker 3: I just can't stop with the questions. This is interesting, though.
- 24:44Speaker 3: We don't think we've talked about on the podcast. Yet
- 24:47Speaker 3: Mel's ex wife left him for a woman. Yeah, and
- 24:52Speaker 3: she is now married to a woman, and that is
- 24:54Speaker 3: a huge part of somebody's life. Yes, and it was
- 24:59Speaker 3: not on his season.
- 25:00Speaker 4: Not only was it not on his season, like he
- 25:02Speaker 4: barely talked about why that relationship ended, whether it was
- 25:06Speaker 4: because she now is going to be in a relationship
- 25:09Speaker 4: with a woman or not. Like, the whole thing of
- 25:13Speaker 4: why that ended, how he dealt with it just was
- 25:15Speaker 4: never discussed. And so even that, like one of the
- 25:18Speaker 4: biggest pieces of the Golden franchise is have you been
- 25:21Speaker 4: married before? If yes, what happened with that?
- 25:23Speaker 2: Are you divorced?
- 25:24Speaker 4: Is your spouse no longer with us?
- 25:26Speaker 2: You know?
- 25:26Speaker 4: What are the kind of particulars of those situations do
- 25:30Speaker 4: a lot to paint sympathy for all of these different players,
- 25:33Speaker 4: and we never got that for him. So I mean,
- 25:35Speaker 4: he was just like, yeah, we got divorced anyway, Oh
- 25:38Speaker 4: like football.
- 25:41Speaker 3: If we knew if he was talking about like his
- 25:45Speaker 3: wife leaving him for our woman, we would have definitely
- 25:48Speaker 3: been more sympathetic.
- 25:50Speaker 2: I feel like it could have been not his story
- 25:52Speaker 2: to tell though, either. Ah, it could be that, you know,
- 25:55Speaker 2: but I do agree there was a line there whereas like,
- 25:58Speaker 2: could you tell any story? Like you don't have to
- 26:01Speaker 2: go into the details of her life and what happened
- 26:05Speaker 2: and where she's at now that I know that could
- 26:07Speaker 2: seem inappropriate and it's disrespectful, but goodness, could you tell
- 26:12Speaker 2: anything like anything at all? Give us up, give us
- 26:16Speaker 2: something to feel here And I think we missed it, Lizzie,
- 26:22Speaker 2: we haven't got to you as we close up here,
- 26:24Speaker 2: do you have any questions for Ashley or myself that
- 26:26Speaker 2: you want to ask?
- 26:28Speaker 5: Actually? Which housewife would you say did you try to
- 26:33Speaker 5: model your play style after? If you could pick one.
- 26:38Speaker 3: This is a great question because I thought that the
- 26:40Speaker 3: people that would go into The Bachelor without having watched
- 26:43Speaker 3: The Bachelor were absolutely insane people because I was such
- 26:46Speaker 3: a fan being part of it before I was part
- 26:49Speaker 3: of it. And I actually haven't never watched the Housewise franchise,
- 26:54Speaker 3: I know, thank god, oh my god, maybe it was good.
- 27:00Speaker 3: I haven't because maybe I would have been too scared.
- 27:02Speaker 3: It was definitely a debate on whether or not I
- 27:07Speaker 3: would do it or not. Now I'll be a debate
- 27:09Speaker 3: between me and Jared. I mean, like our mind's just
- 27:12Speaker 3: like the collective like lifestyle debate.
- 27:14Speaker 5: How did you end up doing it? I had assumed
- 27:17Speaker 5: you were an avid watcher, not at all.
- 27:22Speaker 3: My mom would watch the OG New York Housewives, so
- 27:27Speaker 3: like I know Ramona and like that whole crew. So
- 27:32Speaker 3: I did not model my play after anyone. And I
- 27:35Speaker 3: wish I can speak more, but I feel like pr
- 27:39Speaker 3: would be like ash, yeah if I say anymore. But
- 27:42Speaker 3: I would love to at one point, like maybe with
- 27:45Speaker 3: one of their reps on here, like just give a
- 27:47Speaker 3: little bit more the thought process.
- 27:49Speaker 5: My favorites are Potomac and Salt Lake City. If you
- 27:52Speaker 5: are going to.
- 27:52Speaker 4: Start okay and what it's worth, I think, just based
- 27:57Speaker 4: on like what I know of your place Styn the Bachelor,
- 27:59Speaker 4: I think this is actually beneficial for you. Again, I
- 28:02Speaker 4: think you're kind of like a Taylor Frankie Paul type
- 28:04Speaker 4: player that just has it, that understands the game of
- 28:08Speaker 4: reality TV at like a cellular level. And I think
- 28:10Speaker 4: if you if you go in with too many strategism
- 28:13Speaker 4: that might actually screw up your place style.
- 28:16Speaker 6: I love this.
- 28:16Speaker 2: She was born to be a reality Sorry, here's gonna
- 28:21Speaker 2: be the fun part. And it's a good promotion. See
- 28:24Speaker 2: I would have heard that actually, and I've been like,
- 28:25Speaker 2: that's not a compliment, and you're like, no, thank you,
- 28:28Speaker 2: I do. I was made for this moment. Unreal, But
- 28:34Speaker 2: it's gonna be a fun ride. So Chad and Lizzy,
- 28:38Speaker 2: We're gonna break down obviously Real Housewives Rhode Island here
- 28:41Speaker 2: at the Almost Famous podcast. I've never watched an episode
- 28:44Speaker 2: and it is something like I had to watch Perfect
- 28:46Speaker 2: Match this year and it threw me for a loop
- 28:49Speaker 2: mentally for.
- 28:49Speaker 5: Money joyed it.
- 28:50Speaker 2: I did because it was so abnormally odd to me
- 28:54Speaker 2: on how somebody can lick ice off as somebody else's
- 28:57Speaker 2: thigh within ten minutes of meeting them. I was like,
- 28:59Speaker 2: I don't get it. I don't know how that happens.
- 29:01Speaker 2: This is the only place it could happen where it's
- 29:03Speaker 2: not like weird. And so we're gonna be breaking it down.
- 29:08Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be a lot of fun because
- 29:09Speaker 2: I'm assuming I'm gonna have a lot of questions for Ashley,
- 29:12Speaker 2: a lot of moments of are you serious? What it
- 29:16Speaker 2: was this like? And I'm excited to watch it too
- 29:18Speaker 2: for the first time, and we'll be doing it here
- 29:21Speaker 2: and so maybe when we do, Lizzie, you can come
- 29:23Speaker 2: back on and kind of give your breakdown of Ashley's performance.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Yeah, like Lizzie, you're gonna need to train me.
- 29:30Speaker 6: Yeah, it cannot wait.
- 29:32Speaker 5: I will say I watched the trailer. There was not
- 29:35Speaker 5: enough Ashley eye in it for me. But you know
- 29:37Speaker 5: it's just one trailer.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Well, I can't say anything.
- 29:44Speaker 2: I know it was gonna wait till you do it.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Hey again. The Game of Roses podcast is a great
- 29:51Speaker 2: listen along with the book How to Win the Bachelor
- 29:55Speaker 2: Chat and Lizzie, thank you for coming on, Thank you
- 29:57Speaker 2: for chatting with us, giving us all your insights, all
- 30:00Speaker 2: your things. If there's anything else, if there's any monumental
- 30:04Speaker 2: moments in the franchise where you're like, we got to
- 30:07Speaker 2: talk to Ashley and been about it, please let us know.
- 30:11Speaker 2: You're a joy to talk to in an interview. Unlike
- 30:15Speaker 2: mostly ever one of us are gone, yeah, come jump on.
- 30:19Speaker 5: I am about to go on maternity leave, but oh
- 30:22Speaker 5: my god, thank you.
- 30:26Speaker 3: We would have no idea your biker's right there.
- 30:30Speaker 5: I am dying.
- 30:31Speaker 2: No, I'll be fine.
- 30:34Speaker 5: Before Taylor, Frankie Paul's season, we should definitely have you
- 30:38Speaker 5: guys on like this is a true honor too.
- 30:43Speaker 3: So fun.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Thank you guys, we appreciate it. Until next time. This
- 30:47Speaker 2: has been the Almost Famous Podcast and I've been Been, I've.
