- 0:02Speaker 1: And welcome to Monday morning in the nation's capital, Toby
- 0:08Speaker 1: and Chili in the morning. It's 97.1 Wash FM. Yes,
- 0:13Speaker 1: it's Monday. It's only Monday for a day, but you
- 0:15Speaker 1: got to get up, got to get things moving, got
- 0:17Speaker 1: to start the routine, at least until they make today
- 0:20Speaker 1: not a work day when Congress eventually acts on the
- 0:23Speaker 1: four-day work week that they have is pending legislation in
- 0:26Speaker 1: front of Congress right now. God willing, it'll happen. Anyway,
- 0:30Speaker 1: you feeling good this morning? Did you have a good weekend?
- 0:32Speaker 1: Tell us why at 866-927-4361. Chili, how'd it go?
- 0:37Speaker 2: You know we're doing the Fall Festival Tour. And over
- 0:40Speaker 2: the weekend on Saturday, we went up to Thurmont, Maryland
- 0:43Speaker 2: to Magnolia Meadow Farms for their festival. We went last year, too.
- 0:48Speaker 2: According to our spreadsheet, we wanted to return, and we did,
- 0:52Speaker 2: and a good time was had by all.
- 0:54Speaker 1: There you go.
- 0:55Speaker 2: It's about an hour away from where we live, but
- 0:57Speaker 2: it was worth it, and it was lovely.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Thurmont's a great place. They have some great farm stands
- 1:03Speaker 1: up there on the way up and back on 15.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I can't say enough good things about Thurmont just outside
- 1:10Speaker 1: of Camp Davidson. And the Catoctin National Park.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Now, why are you feeling good on this Monday?
- 1:16Speaker 1: I'm feeling good because it's Monday. I'm feeling good because
- 1:19Speaker 1: there's a routine to return to, to a degree, after
- 1:22Speaker 1: not having the routine over the weekend. But I spent
- 1:26Speaker 1: some time with my significant other, who is on the
- 1:28Speaker 1: road again. Oh, my. Because that's what she does.
- 1:32Speaker 2: She travels a lot for work, in case you don't know.
- 1:34Speaker 1: It's her busy season.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:37Speaker 1: So she's off to Philadelphia, then to Orlando, then to
- 1:42Speaker 1: some other place. I lose track. I'm like, just hit
- 1:48Speaker 1: me on WhatsApp if you're out of the country and
- 1:51Speaker 1: text me if you're in the country or you're within
- 1:53Speaker 1: cell range and we'll be good to go. So it's
- 1:56Speaker 1: little things like that, from picking up some wonderful stuff
- 2:00Speaker 1: that grew fresh on the farm like you guys did,
- 2:03Speaker 1: or spending time with your loved ones. I hope you
- 2:05Speaker 1: had a great weekend. We hope you had a great weekend.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Tell me in Chile in the morning, tell us about it,
- 2:09Speaker 1: why you guys enjoyed this morning. Because it's contagious, so
- 2:12Speaker 1: spread it. Spread it. And we got to spread some news.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Top Stories at the top of the hour coming up
- 2:19Speaker 1: on this Monday morning. Your first intelligence briefing. Chili, what's
- 2:22Speaker 1: going on?
- 2:22Speaker 2: The MTV Video Music Awards were last night and Madonna
- 2:27Speaker 2: was the big winner. I've got all the highlights coming
- 2:30Speaker 2: up in just a few.
- 2:34Speaker 4: Top Stories, top of the hour.
- 2:36Speaker 2: The nor'easter that battered the East Coast is now losing
- 2:39Speaker 2: steam after bringing heavy rain, strong winds and flooding. One
- 2:43Speaker 2: person was killed in New York and thousands lost power
- 2:46Speaker 2: as the storm downed trees and utility lines across several states.
- 2:52Speaker 2: The Washington Commanders stunned the Seahawks 33-31 yesterday, snapping Seattle's
- 2:57Speaker 2: 12-game winning streak. QB Marcus Mariota threw three touchdowns and
- 3:03Speaker 2: Kane Medrano had a 50-yard pick-six to seal the win.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Five people were shot at a house party in Arlington
- 3:11Speaker 2: early Saturday morning. Police say a man involved in a
- 3:14Speaker 2: dispute left the home and then came back with a
- 3:16Speaker 2: gun and opened fire. One woman was seriously hurt. The
- 3:20Speaker 2: suspect remains on the loose. Now there are new questions
- 3:25Speaker 2: about why the Kennedy Center closed. Former employees say officials
- 3:29Speaker 2: knew about serious roof problems and had money for repair
- 3:34Speaker 2: months earlier. However, Kennedy Center officials say they discovered more
- 3:39Speaker 2: extensive damage this summer. If loud cars drive you crazy,
- 3:44Speaker 2: Fairfax County is doing something about it. New microphones are
- 3:48Speaker 2: going to be installed in Tysons in High Bluff Valley,
- 3:52Speaker 2: where they will detect vehicles louder than 95 decibels. Drivers
- 3:56Speaker 2: could get a $ 100 fine, but there will be a
- 3:58Speaker 2: 30-day warning period first. And Madonna was a big winner
- 4:02Speaker 2: at this year's MTV Video Music Awards last night, taking
- 4:05Speaker 2: home seven trophies, including Artist of the Year and Best
- 4:09Speaker 2: Collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter. Taylor Swift won Video of the
- 4:14Speaker 2: Year and dedicated the award to Dolly Parton. Forecast today,
- 4:18Speaker 2: cloudy skies with highs near 70. Right now, 60 in Laurel.
- 4:23Speaker 1: And that's your first look at the news. With Toby
- 4:26Speaker 1: and Chile in the morning, you get top stories at
- 4:28Speaker 1: the top of the hour here on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 4:31Speaker 1: How you doing today? You need a little mental espresso
- 4:35Speaker 1: to help you get into this Monday. Well, perhaps maybe
- 4:37Speaker 1: we can help with your morning mindset. Maybe it'll inspire
- 4:41Speaker 1: you to take on the day. Maybe it'll turn your
- 4:43Speaker 1: morning around. It's minutes away. Let's see what it says.
- 4:47Speaker 1: to you variety from the 80s 90s and today for
- 4:53Speaker 1: your monday morning here at 97.1 wash fm toby and
- 4:56Speaker 1: chili in the morning and now we pause to talk
- 4:59Speaker 1: about you and how you're doing with your morning mindset.
- 5:02Speaker 2: We find a quote that speaks to us maybe inspires
- 5:05Speaker 2: or motivates and hopefully it does the same for you.
- 5:08Speaker 1: From former first lady michelle obama who says success isn't
- 5:12Speaker 1: about how much money you make It's about the difference
- 5:15Speaker 1: you make in people's lives. Success isn't about how much
- 5:20Speaker 1: money you make. It's about the difference you make in
- 5:22Speaker 1: people's lives. And it's important to remember this because I
- 5:26Speaker 1: think that we do spend a lot of time trying
- 5:29Speaker 1: to measure our lives by promotions at work, paychecks. Are
- 5:34Speaker 1: we keeping up with colleagues, co-workers, the neighbors, the Joneses? Look,
- 5:39Speaker 1: somebody's day could be better today just because you're a
- 5:42Speaker 1: part of it. And that's a pretty good definition of success.
- 5:45Speaker 1: So be that person for someone else today and find
- 5:48Speaker 1: some success. You'll be surprised what it does for you
- 5:52Speaker 1: in the process. That's your morning mindset for today. Keep
- 5:55Speaker 1: it in mind as you go through whatever life brings
- 5:58Speaker 1: your way. And share it with somebody if you need it.
- 6:01Speaker 1: You'll find it. Toby and Chili page, washfm.com. Hang out
- 6:04Speaker 1: for a few because... A.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Recent poll revealed Americans' biggest regrets. So we'll share the
- 6:10Speaker 2: most popular ones plus share ours.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Do you have any regrets in this life? Looks like 22%
- 6:16Speaker 1: of us don't have any. Let's break it down here
- 6:18Speaker 1: at 97.1 Wash FM with Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Well, the 22% who say they don't have any regrets,
- 6:24Speaker 2: I applaud you because that's amazing to live without that.
- 6:28Speaker 2: But the most popular regret in life is related to
- 6:32Speaker 2: romantic relationships followed by career or work and family relationships
- 6:37Speaker 2: coming in third.
- 6:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Things like money made the list, but not quite that high.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Also the kids and This shocks me that this is
- 6:45Speaker 1: only 4% health, health and wellness. Why is that not higher?
- 6:50Speaker 2: Is that what your biggest regret is related to?
- 6:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I wish I would have listened to my body earlier.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I wish I would have taken care of my body
- 6:57Speaker 1: earlier in life, but no, no, I had to go
- 7:01Speaker 1: and subject myself to the hard way. And if I
- 7:05Speaker 1: could rethink it, I don't want to say it's a regret,
- 7:07Speaker 1: but in reality it is. I would whisper to my
- 7:11Speaker 1: younger self, your health is important. Don't live your life
- 7:15Speaker 1: in one night. Stop. Take care of yourself. What about
- 7:18Speaker 1: you with these regrets?
- 7:19Speaker 2: So it's a combination, right? I regret sacrificing so much
- 7:25Speaker 2: for my job. Work should never, ever have been more
- 7:29Speaker 2: important than personal life stuff. That has shifted, but I
- 7:34Speaker 2: regret not being more present emotionally when my son was
- 7:37Speaker 2: younger because I was so focused on the job.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:41Speaker 2: But I'm making up for it as best I can now.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Job won't love you back, people.
- 7:45Speaker 6: It won't.
- 7:45Speaker 4: It will not.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Regrets. Anybody got anything to add to the conversation of
- 7:51Speaker 1: things that maybe you'd like to do differently? Maybe you
- 7:54Speaker 1: have a regret in life. Maybe there's someone that got away.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 7:57Speaker 1: A job you didn't take or a job you stayed in,
- 7:59Speaker 1: which you shouldn't have. Tell us all about it. 866-927-4361.
- 8:04Speaker 1: We're always listening and we love what it is you
- 8:06Speaker 1: have to add to the conversation. 97.1 Wash FM with
- 8:09Speaker 1: Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Hang out.
- 8:11Speaker 1: We have got some news for you coming up. Top
- 8:13Speaker 1: stories at the top of the hour. What's going on?
- 8:15Speaker 2: If you live near Dulles Airport, you may soon notice
- 8:18Speaker 2: more airplane noise. I'll explain why coming up in just
- 8:22Speaker 2: a few minutes.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Put on some pink and join us for a walk
- 8:27Speaker 1: to raise awareness and to help lead the fight against
- 8:30Speaker 1: breast cancer. Toby and Chili in the morning. It's 97.1
- 8:32Speaker 1: Wash FM.
- 8:34Speaker 2: We're talking about our Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk, Saturday,
- 8:39Speaker 2: October 10th, happening at National Harbor, sponsored by Mattress Warehouse.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Come on down, be a part of it. Join us.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Details are at washfm.com slash pink.
- 8:50Speaker 4: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington.
- 8:53Speaker 3: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top of
- 8:56Speaker 3: the hour.
- 8:57Speaker 2: The Washington Commanders pulled off a wild upset at their
- 9:01Speaker 2: home opener yesterday. We've got the latest on that story
- 9:05Speaker 2: and others on the way. With Toby and Chili in
- 9:08Speaker 2: the morning on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 9:16Speaker 7: U.S.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Ambassador to China David Perdue says the president discussed possibly
- 9:21Speaker 2: selling weapons to China during his recent meeting with President
- 9:25Speaker 2: Xi Jinping. Perdue made those comments yesterday on Fox News. Well,
- 9:30Speaker 2: Prince George's County Police found a man who was fatally
- 9:32Speaker 2: shot inside a home in Clinton early yesterday morning. Investigators
- 9:37Speaker 2: have not released his identity or identified a suspect, but
- 9:40Speaker 2: say they do not believe that the killing was random.
- 9:44Speaker 2: The Washington Commanders pulled off a wild upset, beating the
- 9:48Speaker 2: Seahawks 33-31 and snapping Seattle's 12-game winning streak. Backup quarterback
- 9:55Speaker 2: Marcus Mariota threw three touchdowns. Now, if you live near
- 9:59Speaker 2: Dulles Airport, you may notice more airplane noise. Runway work
- 10:04Speaker 2: is closing one of the airport's three north-south runways, shifting
- 10:07Speaker 2: more flights to the other ones, and those changes are
- 10:10Speaker 2: expected to last through November. A former congressman is being
- 10:14Speaker 2: honored on a Fairfax County trail that he helped create.
- 10:18Speaker 2: New signs were dedicated Saturday along the Jerry Connolly Cross
- 10:22Speaker 2: County Trail at Lake Akatink Park. He served 14 years
- 10:26Speaker 2: on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and then 17
- 10:29Speaker 2: years in Congress before he died last year at 75.
- 10:34Speaker 2: And do you want to live longer? Well, a longevity
- 10:37Speaker 2: researcher says the answer might be as simple as getting
- 10:39Speaker 2: a dog. He says dog ownership leads to 24% lower
- 10:43Speaker 2: risk of death overall and up to 33% lower risk
- 10:48Speaker 2: for people who've already had a heart attack or stroke.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Forecast today, cloudy skies with highs getting up to near 70.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Right now, 60 in Woodbridge.
- 10:57Speaker 1: That is the news. Don't forget, you get your top
- 11:00Speaker 1: stories right around the top of the hour with Toby
- 11:02Speaker 1: and Chili in the morning here at 97.1 Wash FM. 866-927-4361,
- 11:08Speaker 1: the number on this Monday morning. Jump in. We're going
- 11:10Speaker 1: to talk about the dumbest excuse an employee ever gave
- 11:13Speaker 1: you for not coming into work. There's a reason why
- 11:17Speaker 1: we're bringing it up. You'll find out what it is.
- 11:20Speaker 1: 97.1 Wash FM. Toby and Chili in the morning. The
- 11:24Speaker 1: dumbest excuse an employee ever gave for not coming into work. Now,
- 11:29Speaker 1: it may not have been your employee. Maybe you just
- 11:31Speaker 1: heard about it. Either way, we're talking about it this
- 11:34Speaker 1: morning at 866-927-4361. Join the conversation that we're bringing up
- 11:40Speaker 1: because of a proposed sort of a thing in the UK.
- 11:44Speaker 1: It's not really a law that's been proposed, but it's
- 11:47Speaker 1: something that a government advisor is bringing up.
- 11:49Speaker 2: He's saying we should go back to the days where
- 11:52Speaker 2: we would pick up the phone to call out sick
- 11:54Speaker 2: instead of texting or emailing. And his proposed solution is
- 11:58Speaker 2: more about an open dialogue between the employer and the
- 12:01Speaker 2: employee where both people can feel more comfortable speaking about sickness,
- 12:05Speaker 2: both physical and mental, and also make a return to
- 12:08Speaker 2: work plan together, which could involve any kind of treatment. Yeah,
- 12:13Speaker 2: he's not a fan of the just sending a quick
- 12:16Speaker 2: text or an email. I'm going to be out tomorrow
- 12:18Speaker 2: or I'm out today.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I'll have a problem with that. See, I think that
- 12:21Speaker 1: we've lost the art of being able to have a
- 12:23Speaker 1: conversation and some people are just afraid. If you're sick,
- 12:27Speaker 1: you're sick. Pick up the phone, call your boss, tell him.
- 12:29Speaker 2: I think it's okay to keep texting and emailing. For me,
- 12:32Speaker 2: this is just sort of a formality, giving a heads
- 12:35Speaker 2: up to management saying, Listen, I'm going to be out.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I'm taking a sick day. I'm not really sure why
- 12:40Speaker 2: I would want to have a conversation with you about
- 12:43Speaker 2: it because it's personal, perhaps. Maybe it was an emergency situation.
- 12:47Speaker 2: I don't have time to be making no calls and
- 12:49Speaker 2: answering any questions. Yes, there are times where open communication
- 12:53Speaker 2: and a phone call is important. I'm just not thinking
- 12:55Speaker 2: it has to be for calling out sick. Well, what
- 12:58Speaker 2: I think we can all agree on is this. Dumb
- 13:00Speaker 2: excuses for not being at work. You can deliver those
- 13:04Speaker 2: in the form of a conversation, email or text. Is
- 13:07Speaker 2: there a dumb excuse you've heard that somebody gave for
- 13:11Speaker 2: not coming into work, Chili? I worked with a guy who,
- 13:14Speaker 2: this was back when we had to call, called us
- 13:16Speaker 2: and said he couldn't come in because he got hurt
- 13:19Speaker 2: from a raindrop. He had been riding a roller coaster
- 13:21Speaker 2: and a raindrop hit him in the eye going pretty fast.
- 13:25Speaker 2: So he was out for at least a day. And
- 13:26Speaker 2: then we joked that it was a concussive raindrop.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I got nothing.
- 13:31Speaker 7: Nothing.
- 13:32Speaker 2: You can't beat that excuse.
- 13:33Speaker 1: No, no. I'm not even going to try. No. Not
- 13:35Speaker 1: even going to try. That's our favorite. 866-927-4361. You got
- 13:40Speaker 1: a dumb excuse you've heard. Maybe you've given it for
- 13:43Speaker 1: not coming to work. Call us. Tell us. We won't judge.
- 13:46Speaker 1: But you may just get crickets. If your excuse is
- 13:49Speaker 1: really ridiculous. 97.1 Watch FM. Washington's variety from the 80s,
- 13:54Speaker 1: 90s and today with Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 13:57Speaker 1: A government advisor in the UK says, you know what?
- 14:00Speaker 1: If you're going to call in sick and miss work,
- 14:02Speaker 1: you should make the actual phone call. No emails, no texts.
- 14:06Speaker 1: And now we're talking about dumb excuses for missing work.
- 14:10Speaker 3: What? Why?
- 14:10Speaker 1: Because those dumb excuses can be delivered any which way
- 14:16Speaker 1: you can imagine.
- 14:17Speaker 2: And you know what? We're not going to judge. So
- 14:19Speaker 2: whether it's you who called in this silly excuse or
- 14:22Speaker 2: you work with somebody who did, we are ready to
- 14:24Speaker 2: hear it now at 866-927-4361.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Good morning in Palisades, Omar. What you got?
- 14:30Speaker 4: Sorry I can't come in today.
- 14:32Speaker 3: My dog is emotionally unavailable.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Wow, we've come a long way from my dog ate
- 14:37Speaker 2: my homework.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. Did you ever work with Chili in
- 14:40Speaker 1: a previous life? Honestly, I respected the creativity more than
- 14:44Speaker 1: the excuse. Oh, no, I think creativity is kind of
- 14:47Speaker 1: a stretch there, Omar. But you know what? It is
- 14:50Speaker 1: what it is. And that was a dumb excuse. We're
- 14:53Speaker 1: Toby and Chili in the morning. Let's shoot over to
- 14:56Speaker 1: College Park. Good morning, Becca.
- 14:59Speaker 5: I had someone tell me that he was in a
- 15:00Speaker 5: food coma from the night before.
- 15:02Speaker 6: Hmm.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Wow. Well, I've experienced a food coma before, but never
- 15:07Speaker 2: thought to use that.
- 15:09Speaker 4: I was not ready to accept that as an excuse.
- 15:12Speaker 4: Food comas aren't going to fly with me.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Hopefully all those people who have you as a direct
- 15:17Speaker 1: report got the message. No dumb excuses. Dobie and Chili
- 15:22Speaker 1: in the morning, if you have an excuse you want
- 15:24Speaker 1: to add to the list that we've heard so far,
- 15:28Speaker 1: talk back microphone wide open if you're listening on your
- 15:30Speaker 1: iHeart app. Tap speak and send. Can't wait to hear
- 15:34Speaker 1: from you. And we can't wait to hear the news.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Top stories at the top of the hour. Chili, what
- 15:39Speaker 1: can we expect this Monday morning?
- 15:41Speaker 2: If you're heading up to Shenandoah National Park this fall
- 15:44Speaker 2: to check out the fall foliage, Be on the lookout
- 15:47Speaker 2: for new automated entry stations. I've got all the details
- 15:51Speaker 2: coming up in just a few minutes.
- 15:53Speaker 1: 97.1 Wash FM, Toby and Chili in the morning with
- 15:55Speaker 1: another new live music experience for you on this Monday.
- 16:01Speaker 1: If you like Teddy Swims, you've got to be here
- 16:03Speaker 1: coming up.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Right around 7.10 after Toby and Chili's top stories, we're
- 16:07Speaker 2: going to ask our nearly impossible question. And if you
- 16:10Speaker 2: get it right, You'll get to see Teddy Swims at
- 16:12Speaker 2: Capital One Arena October 13th.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Now six pence none the richer.
- 16:18Speaker 4: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington.
- 16:21Speaker 3: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top of
- 16:25Speaker 3: the hour.
- 16:25Speaker 2: The nor'easter that battered the East Coast is losing steam.
- 16:30Speaker 2: We've got the latest on that story and others coming up.
- 16:33Speaker 2: With Toby and Chili in the morning on 97.1 WASH-FM.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Top stories, top of the hour.
- 16:42Speaker 2: The nor'easter that battered the East Coast is now losing
- 16:45Speaker 2: steam after bringing heavy rain, strong winds and flooding. One
- 16:49Speaker 2: person was killed in New York and thousands lost power
- 16:52Speaker 2: as the storm downed trees and utility lines across several states.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Of course, that storm washed out Ocean's Calling in Ocean City, Maryland,
- 17:00Speaker 2: but some musicians actually found a way to keep the
- 17:03Speaker 2: music going. KT Tunstall, for example, played two free pop-up
- 17:07Speaker 2: shows while Cassandra Coleman performed at Secrets. Well, the Washington
- 17:12Speaker 2: Commanders stunned the Seahawks yesterday with a 33-31 win, snapping
- 17:18Speaker 2: Seattle's 12-game winning streak. QB Marcus Mariota threw three touchdowns,
- 17:25Speaker 2: and Kane Medrano had a 50-yard pick-six to seal the win. Well,
- 17:30Speaker 2: there are new questions now about why the Kennedy Center closed.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Former employees are saying that officials knew about serious roof
- 17:38Speaker 2: problems and had money for repairers. months earlier. However, Kennedy
- 17:43Speaker 2: Center officials say that they discovered more extensive damage this summer. Now,
- 17:48Speaker 2: if loud cars drive you crazy, Fairfax County is doing
- 17:51Speaker 2: something about it. New microphones in Tysons and Hybla Valley
- 17:56Speaker 2: are going to be detecting vehicles that are louder than
- 17:59Speaker 2: 95 decibels, and drivers could get a $ 100 fine. And
- 18:04Speaker 2: Shenandoah National Park is adding automated entry stations to at
- 18:09Speaker 2: all four entrances this fall. They'll let visitors pay by
- 18:13Speaker 2: card and enter when rangers aren't there, and they'll also
- 18:16Speaker 2: allow the park to close Skyline Drive remotely during dangerous conditions.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Forecast for today, we'll have cloudy skies with highs near 70.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Right now, 60 in Gaithersburg.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
- 18:29Speaker 1: And the question this Monday morning is.

- 18:37Speaker 1: Well, 866-927-4361. That's the number. Call now. Get it right.

- 19:07Speaker 4: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Monday morning, what's the question, please?
- 19:13Speaker 2: Experts say this simple habit before you go to bed
- 19:16Speaker 2: can help you sleep better. What is it?

- 19:29Speaker 1: be yours. Norman Gambrills, hello, welcome. You got the question.
- 19:33Speaker 1: What's your guess?
- 19:34Speaker 6: My guess is smartphones, electronic devices.
- 19:38Speaker 2: What about them?
- 19:39Speaker 4: Turning off.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Turning off electronic devices and phones. Well, that's a great guess, Norm,
- 19:44Speaker 2: and it happens to be the right answer. Congratulations.
- 19:47Speaker 6: Well, thank you very much, Julie. I appreciate that.

- 20:08Speaker 6: you more tickets teddy swims tomorrow morning around 7 10
- 20:12Speaker 6: after you get your top stories at the top of
- 20:15Speaker 6: the hour with another round of your nearly impossible question
- 20:18Speaker 6: It is 97.1.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Watch FM. Stay right there because next.
- 20:21Speaker 2: A local artist is turning Baltimore into an art treasure hunt.
- 20:26Speaker 1: It's a story we think will make your Monday and
- 20:29Speaker 1: it'll also make you want to run to Charm City
- 20:31Speaker 1: and start looking for some of these treasures. Don't wonder now.
- 20:34Speaker 1: You understand? Now, a story that we think might just
- 20:38Speaker 1: make your Monday here at 97.1 Wash FM with Toby
- 20:41Speaker 1: and Chili in the morning. Let's imagine walking through the
- 20:45Speaker 1: streets of Charm City. That's right, Baltimore. And while you're walking,
- 20:49Speaker 1: you stumble across an original painting. And then you find
- 20:52Speaker 1: out that you can take that painting home forever.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Well, that's the idea behind a really cool citywide scavenger
- 20:59Speaker 2: hunt from Baltimore artists Zoe and Daria Ostry. So for
- 21:03Speaker 2: the past several months, Zoe's been hiding her original artwork
- 21:07Speaker 2: all around the city, giving people a chance to discover
- 21:10Speaker 2: it and then keep it, which is a piece of
- 21:12Speaker 2: her work.
- 21:13Speaker 1: This is amazing. Now, she's hidden paintings in Hampton, Charles Village,
- 21:17Speaker 1: Fells Point, Mount Vernon, and the art. These pieces, they're
- 21:22Speaker 1: really easy to spot. I mean, it's art. Each one
- 21:24Speaker 1: comes with a little, you found me note, which is
- 21:27Speaker 1: like a certificate of authenticity. The catch, you got to
- 21:30Speaker 1: follow Zoe on TikTok or Insta. She's dropping clues about
- 21:35Speaker 1: where the next painting will appear right there.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Now, sometimes people race to the location after they see
- 21:41Speaker 2: a clue and another time someone just happens to walk
- 21:43Speaker 2: by at exactly the right moment. And Zoe, who, by
- 21:47Speaker 2: the way, is originally from Alexandria, Virginia, says the whole
- 21:50Speaker 2: point of this is to make art more accessible. letting
- 21:54Speaker 2: the artwork find you instead of expecting you to find
- 21:58Speaker 2: it in a gallery.
- 21:59Speaker 1: That is just an exclamation point. And speaking of exclamation points.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Zoe's already thinking bigger, and she has this idea that
- 22:09Speaker 1: maybe she could take the scavenger hunt to other cities.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I would like to invite you to come on down
- 22:14Speaker 1: 95 to D.C.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Now, this is awesome because I hope she inspires other
- 22:19Speaker 2: artists to do the same. If you want to read
- 22:21Speaker 2: more about what Zoe is doing, you can find the
- 22:24Speaker 2: story on the Toby and Chili page at washfm.com.
- 22:27Speaker 1: She's almost like Baltimore's Banksy, but not quite Banksy. Good stuff.
- 22:32Speaker 1: And thank you for a story that does make our Monday.
- 22:34Speaker 1: It's 97.1 Wash FM. Top stories at the top of
- 22:38Speaker 1: the hour right around 810 this morning. Chili, what's good?
- 22:42Speaker 2: I know we're barely into fall, but the U.S. Postal Service.
- 22:46Speaker 2: has already revealed the send-by dates to get things delivered
- 22:50Speaker 2: before the holidays. And I'll share those with you coming
- 22:52Speaker 2: up in just a few.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Everybody's been talking about the performances and you missed out.
- 22:59Speaker 1: You didn't get... the chance to see our iHeartRadio Music
- 23:02Speaker 1: Festival presented by Capital One. It's 97.1 Wash FM. Toby
- 23:05Speaker 1: and Chilling in the Morning. Well, don't cry. Here's why.
- 23:08Speaker 2: On Thursday, you can start streaming on Disney Plus and

- 23:18Speaker 1: It's 97.1 Wash FM. 97.1 WASH FM, Washington.
- 23:25Speaker 3: An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories, top of
- 23:29Speaker 3: the hour.
- 23:29Speaker 2: The Washington Commanders pulled off a wild upset beating the
- 23:33Speaker 2: Super Bowl champs yesterday. We've got the latest on that
- 23:37Speaker 2: story and others on the way. With Toby and Chili
- 23:41Speaker 2: in the morning on 97.1 Wash FM. Top stories, top
- 23:47Speaker 2: of the hour.
- 23:48Speaker 1: U.S.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Ambassador to China David Perdue says the president discussed possibly
- 23:53Speaker 2: selling weapons to China during his recent meeting with Chinese
- 23:57Speaker 2: President Xi Jinping. Perdue made those comments yesterday on Fox News.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Prince George's County Police found a man who was fatally
- 24:04Speaker 2: shot inside a home in Clinton early yesterday morning. Investigators
- 24:09Speaker 2: have not released his identity or identified a suspect, but
- 24:13Speaker 2: they say they do not believe that the killing was random.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Police are investigating a shooting that wounded five people at
- 24:19Speaker 2: an Arlington house party. Investigators say the gunman left after
- 24:23Speaker 2: a fight and then returned and fired multiple shots. The
- 24:27Speaker 2: Washington Commanders pulled off a wild upset, beating the Seahawks
- 24:31Speaker 2: 33 to 31 and snapping Seattle's 12 game winning streak.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Backup quarterback Marcus Mariota threw three touchdowns. Dulles Airport is
- 24:41Speaker 2: warning residents and businesses nearby about possible increases in airplane noise.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Runway maintenance through November is going to shift some flights
- 24:50Speaker 2: to other runways, changing flight patterns around the airport. A
- 24:55Speaker 2: former congressman is being honored along the Fairfax County Trail
- 24:58Speaker 2: that he helped create. New signs honoring Jerry Connolly were
- 25:03Speaker 2: dedicated over the weekend at Lake Akatink Park. Connolly died
- 25:07Speaker 2: last year at the age of 75. And it may
- 25:10Speaker 2: be barely fall, but the Postal Service is already thinking
- 25:14Speaker 2: about the holidays. USPS says that for most of the country,
- 25:18Speaker 2: December 17th really is the recommended deadline to send holiday
- 25:22Speaker 2: cards and packages using ground advantage or first class mail.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Forecast for today, it's going to be cloudy with highs
- 25:30Speaker 2: near 70. Right now, 60 in Oakton.
- 25:33Speaker 1: And that is the news with Toby and Chili in
- 25:35Speaker 1: the morning. Top stories, yours at the top of the hour.
- 25:39Speaker 1: And now that you're informed, we need you to tell
- 25:42Speaker 1: us a little bit of information. at 866-927-4361 there are
- 25:46Speaker 1: two types of people in the world the people who
- 25:48Speaker 1: are into halloween decorations in the yard and the people
- 25:52Speaker 1: who are into christmas decorations in the yard now where
- 25:57Speaker 1: do you stand on this are you team halloween or
- 25:59Speaker 1: team christmas we're talking about it call now and join
- 26:03Speaker 1: us Now, Chili, you have a home over there near Tyson's,
- 26:07Speaker 1: and I have an apartment, but I have a patio.
- 26:12Speaker 1: You get to decorate bigly, but I will decorate said
- 26:16Speaker 1: patio just in time for the holidays. But the question
- 26:18Speaker 1: that I have this morning here at 97.1 Wash FM is.
- 26:22Speaker 1: If you're decorating your home or your yard, which do
- 26:25Speaker 1: you prefer to decorate? Halloween or Christmas? 866-927-4360. The one
- 26:30Speaker 1: is the number if you want to get into this chat.
- 26:33Speaker 2: You can always tell the neighbors in the cul-de-sac who
- 26:35Speaker 2: prefer one over the other. So a couple of them
- 26:38Speaker 2: have already started the Halloween interpretation outside their home. We
- 26:43Speaker 2: definitely prefer the Christmas decorations. The only reason we ever
- 26:47Speaker 2: had any Halloween was my son liked this ghost that
- 26:50Speaker 2: we hung on the door. But that's about it.
- 26:51Speaker 1: I am more Christmas. And if I were to answer
- 26:54Speaker 1: any other way, I would be sleeping on the couch
- 26:57Speaker 1: or probably put my relationship in jeopardy because my significant
- 27:00Speaker 1: other is already talking about putting up her 10 to
- 27:03Speaker 1: 15 trees, including a few trees that she wants to
- 27:06Speaker 1: put up at my place. So Halloween loses in the
- 27:09Speaker 1: Toby Knapp household. So where do you stand on decorating
- 27:12Speaker 1: for Halloween versus Christmas? Frank, good morning in Rockville.
- 27:16Speaker 5: You know, I would actually be more into Christmas than
- 27:19Speaker 5: Halloween if people would just be more creative about how
- 27:22Speaker 5: they go about it.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Because every year it's kind of the same thing. Yeah,
- 27:26Speaker 2: but what do you mean by getting more creative?
- 27:28Speaker 1: Like have some creepy Christmas decorations. I think that would
- 27:32Speaker 1: be really cool. Yeah, because nothing says festive, joyous time
- 27:36Speaker 1: of the year like Santa Claus dressed as a zombie.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Thanks for the call there, Frank in Rockville. Now, Jeannie
- 27:44Speaker 1: in Arlington, what you got?
- 27:45Speaker 5: I have always been a big Christmas person, but in
- 27:48Speaker 5: recent years, I find myself buying new Halloween decorations every
- 27:53Speaker 5: year and making it bigger and brighter.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Why is that?
- 27:56Speaker 5: Because my kids have gotten into Halloween so much more.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Good answer, Amy. Good answer. And thank you for jumping
- 28:02Speaker 1: in this morning. Let's go say hello to Dean in
- 28:06Speaker 1: Friendship Heights. I would say Halloween.
- 28:09Speaker 2: You say it with such certainty.
- 28:11Speaker 3: Why?
- 28:11Speaker 7: Halloween has more interesting stuff. And with Halloween, you can
- 28:15Speaker 7: go positive and negative. The characters can be really scary
- 28:19Speaker 7: and mean or very funny and joyful. With Christmas, you
- 28:23Speaker 7: really only get joyful.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Have you never heard of the Scrooge?
- 28:27Speaker 1: And a bah humbug to you. These days, it seems
- 28:31Speaker 1: like they've got a con for everything. You know, Comic Con,
- 28:36Speaker 1: K-Pop Con, and now they have a new con over
- 28:39Speaker 1: at the National Geographic Museum that's happening today.
- 28:42Speaker 2: That's right. 202 Creates Con, running from 10 a.m. to
- 28:46Speaker 2: 4 p.m.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Today.
- 28:47Speaker 2: With panels and conversations about the future of sports, entertainment, festivals,
- 28:52Speaker 2: and technology in the district.
- 28:54Speaker 1: That sounds enthralling. 97.1 Wash FM. We're Toby and Chili
- 28:57Speaker 1: in the morning over two hours. Commercial free music continues.
- 29:01Speaker 1: October 10th is going to be here before you know it.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Over two hours of commercial-free music on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Toby and Chili in the morning. Why is that date important?
- 29:09Speaker 2: Because we are doing our Susan G. Komen More Than
- 29:12Speaker 2: Pink Walk on Saturday, October 10th at National Harbor, sponsored
- 29:16Speaker 2: by Mattress Warehouse. And we would love for you to
- 29:19Speaker 2: join us.

- 29:23Speaker 1: the things that you need to know. Now Adele. It's
- 29:27Speaker 1: called easy on you. Well, here we are into our
- 29:30Speaker 1: Monday together. It's going to be a good week. Believe it.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us this morning. 97.1 Wash FM and
- 29:37Speaker 1: for choosing to let us be a part of your
- 29:39Speaker 1: life today. So we're Toby and Chili in the morning.
- 29:43Speaker 1: And before we bounce.
- 29:45Speaker 2: We want to leave you with a quote for you
- 29:46Speaker 2: to think about. Maybe it'll inspire you, motivate you to
- 29:49Speaker 2: take on a Monday, which is the beginning of a
- 29:51Speaker 2: new week for you.
- 29:52Speaker 1: That's right. Remember what Michelle Obama says. The former first
- 29:55Speaker 1: lady success isn't about how much money you make. It's
- 29:59Speaker 1: about the difference you make in people's lives. So be
- 30:03Speaker 1: that difference for somebody today because that is a pretty
- 30:07Speaker 1: good definition of success. Have a great day. We will
- 30:11Speaker 1: talk to you soon. Upon reason and belief, Jenny Chase
- 30:15Speaker 1: is next.
