- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today I want to talk to you about worrying and I want you to
- 0:36know I am a warrior by nature. I'm sure if you've listened
- 0:41before, you've heard me talk about this.
- 0:44I have no doubt in my mind that I can worry with the best of
- 0:48them. I like to say I'm somewhat of a
- 0:50reformed warrior because I've taught myself over the years
- 0:54about. The the sickness of worrying.
- 0:58And it really is a sickness when it comes down to this, because
- 1:01it gets in you, it becomes part of you.
- 1:04So what does worrying do for you and what does it give you?
- 1:08Well, first of all, it gives you tons of anxiety.
- 1:12It gives you stress, it gives you heart disease.
- 1:14It gives you. The open door for illness in
- 1:18your body because you're spending so much time in acidity
- 1:22that your body is getting unhealthy.
- 1:24So this this opens the door for lots of things to worry about.
- 1:29Which is ironic, right? Because you're worrying because
- 1:31you don't want them to happen, but by worrying you're opening
- 1:34the door to them happening. Plus, from just a spiritual
- 1:37standpoint, being a warrior. It means you don't believe in,
- 1:43trust in the things that you say that you believe in.
- 1:45Trust in this is such a critical part of understanding it.
- 1:49Because if I say I have faith, if I say I'm spiritual, if I say
- 1:53I believe that God in the universe take care of me, then
- 1:56why am I worried, right? Like it doesn't make any sense.
- 1:59It just doesn't make sense because I know I've got, you
- 2:02know, the universe constantly conspiring for my greater good.
- 2:06So what the hell am I worried about?
- 2:08Well, worrying is a habit. It's learned and.
- 2:11Those of you who have listened before understand that I learned
- 2:14this from my mother. She was a professional warrior
- 2:16and she taught me to be a professional warrior.
- 2:20So I've had to unlearn what I've learned.
- 2:22As Yoda said, you must unlearn what you have learned.
- 2:26And do I ever think that I'm over it?
- 2:29Let me say this No. Because just like the whole
- 2:33concept of emotions and the bus. When we talk about who's driving
- 2:37your bus, they are there to always help us, so you cannot
- 2:42kick them off. Worrying is actually something
- 2:45that can be useful because it makes you stop and it makes you
- 2:49go okay what if? And it gives you a little bit of
- 2:53insight. The trick is not to stay in it.
- 2:57But this is where we get hung up, as as human beings, we get
- 2:59hung up because we think we'll have to pay attention.
- 3:02I have to worry. But past that first few minutes
- 3:05of understanding what it's trying to tell you and making
- 3:08the plan, do you need to keep looping back to it?
- 3:11Absolutely not. Because there's nothing.
- 3:14Nothing that's going to help you with it.
- 3:16It's just going to be one of those things that you keep
- 3:18focused on and boom, there you go.
- 3:20As Mark Twain famously said, I've had a lot of worries in my
- 3:24life, most of which never happened, and that is the truth.
- 3:28They don't happen. So what do you do when you just
- 3:32can't seem to stop obsessing on something?
- 3:35Like what do you do? So first of all I will tell you.
- 3:40The obsessive thoughts around it are just because you keep trying
- 3:43to gain the certainty that you've got it handled.
- 3:46So you keep using certainty as another emotion that teams up
- 3:49with anxiety, that teams up with the worry, and all of a sudden
- 3:53there you go, you've got this. A professional trio managing you
- 3:58and talking about it and saying, Oh well, we have to stay on top
- 4:02of this. We have to stay on top of this.
- 4:03If I keep thinking about it, then I'm going to be able to
- 4:05find out if there's any other ways to not have it happen.
- 4:07But you can never do that because you're putting your
- 4:10direction right at it. So just like the race car
- 4:13drivers who are learning to drive cars for the first time,
- 4:17one of the things that they are always told to do is if you go
- 4:19into a spin, don't look at the wall.
- 4:21Because if you look at the wall, you'll hit the wall.
- 4:23Do not look at the wall. Focus your attention, your
- 4:26intention and everything on the direction you want to go.
- 4:29So what I trained myself to do with this is to be in the
- 4:33moment, get out of worrying what could happen and stay in the
- 4:37moment. Because like right now, here I
- 4:39am with you. I'm in the chicken coop, I'm the
- 4:42girls. Half the girls have left and
- 4:44they're out already walking around.
- 4:46The other half are still inside messing around.
- 4:49There's a line starting to happen for egg laying and there
- 4:52are some that still haven't gotten out of bed yet because I
- 4:55do have that group of girls. There's 123-4567 who are the
- 5:00late goers and they just will hang up there until they feel
- 5:03like they really want to come down.
- 5:05And usually it's about an hour and a half after everybody else
- 5:09goes now. This used to drive me crazy.
- 5:12I used to say to them, come on, you have to go.
- 5:14You have to go. You're going to miss breakfast
- 5:16snack. And I was worried about what the
- 5:19chickens were doing. Why the hell am I worried about
- 5:22what the chickens are doing? They are chickens.
- 5:24They know better. They know best for themselves.
- 5:26I don't need to know what's best for them.
- 5:29They know what's best for them. So I had to really focus on the
- 5:33fact that no, I'm not managing them.
- 5:34So when I'm out here and I'm like just.
- 5:38Being myself and choosing not to worry, I have to stop and pause
- 5:42and look around and say wow, I am so in this moment.
- 5:47I look at the flowers that I've planted for them.
- 5:49I look at their window boxes. I look at them while they're
- 5:52eating their breakfast snacks. I look at what I need to do out
- 5:56here, like just reading and cleaning up and stuff like that.
- 6:00But I am not. 25,000 steps ahead In my day, I'm not thinking
- 6:05about the fact that I need to go to Costco or I need to fold
- 6:09clothes or I need to do something else before.
- 6:13All I'm doing is focusing on being here and now, here and
- 6:16now. The present moment is a healing
- 6:19moment and spend your time in the present moment.
- 6:23Find gratitude. Find gratitude because it always
- 6:27works. If you can, be grateful for the
- 6:30flowers, the chickens, whatever's around you.
- 6:33If you can be grateful for really cool sneakers that just
- 6:36slip in so you don't have to worry about tying something in
- 6:39the morning, whatever it is. Be grateful for it and it pulls
- 6:44you out of it. And you.
- 6:45Multiple times a day, multiple times an hour, multiple times in
- 6:51in a moment. You just keep pulling yourself
- 6:53back to this and you say I'm in the moment.
- 6:56And even if you can't find gratitude, just look at what's
- 6:58around you. You could just stare at it.
- 7:01You can just be in the moment with it.
- 7:02Just be like, OK, I'm here. There's nothing in this moment
- 7:05to worry about. I'm here.
- 7:07I don't need to worry about anything.
- 7:08I'm just here. I hope this is helpful my
- 7:11friends. And I hope that you find peace
- 7:14in your day. And I hope that you really
- 7:15interrupt those worry patterns. And this is the way to do it.
- 7:19All right, my friends. I will see you tomorrow.
- 7:21Bye.
