A tragic drowning claimed the life of 19-year-old Robert Batchelder in the Merrimack River yesterday, despite a frantic rescue effort involving multiple agencies. Swimming with a coworker, he went under and couldn’t be reached in time, even as bystanders and emergency crews from Boscawen and Concord searched for over an hour.
