• f1capper: Apex Insiders is back. We got the Bahrain GP, aka Malaysia GP. That's what I'm going call it. I don't care. So Sue me, Bahrain, or any of you Arabs. That's right. I got F1 tipster. And we got a fun track, actually, my friend. It's been almost actually nine years at this point since the last time we raced here. There's probably a lot of lot of what it DTR fans that have never seen this track. It's unfortunate too because it's such a great track. it it's basically kinda like Better China, I guess, maybe. Is that what what you would consider it? Sort of. Darksideday: over fine that with these rags, won't we? f1capper: well yes, that's true. We'll see what energy management is gonna how it's gonna impact this this track. Darksideday: Yes, lots of heavy breaking zones, which is what you need for a good race. f1capper: Some twists, some medium, low speed, high speed, got a little bit of everything. so this is I mean, god, I I couldn't remember the last time I watched the full race from here. Obviously, 2017 was the last one. so getting some of the track details is is I'm just really gonna be working off Pirelli stuff. So traction is says three, sounds about right, you know, tire stress. It says four. I wonder what it's gonna be like at this type of track because if you're gonna be trying to conserve energy with the whole lift and coast, does it does it really impact because right now it's like the front left higher or the yeah, the front left higher is gonna be the one that takes a a beating outside of your rears. I think it may not be as bad as they expect. and I think they're going for the C two, C three, C four, so we'll see. I'm not overreacting to that as much. And then the grip level is going to be at a two. Again, like you said, hard breaking. There's a there's quite a bit. There's like three, four, probably four hard breaking zones. So that's probably why it's gonna be at a four. And then track Evo says four. I'll be interested to see, but I think that's it. It's gonna be hot. It's gonna be four or five, in my opinion. So yeah, I'm excited. This is Darksideday: pět f1capper: This is again one of those tracks where it's got n it's got good character. The one thing that I like about the track too is the way they have the stands set up. Like it's basically one stand and you can see pretty much half the track. And or you're sitting on the other side, you're seeing the other half of the track. I I think that's pretty cool because it actually gives you like a pretty good visual of what's happening, at least half the track Darksideday: Yeah. f1capper: on one way or another. Versus if you go to like any track you're only seeing literally that corner and then you gotta look at the screen. So I love the way that this is this is laid out. What I don't like is that it's a three AM FP F P two and qualifying actually for me and then two AM race, which I can I can handle that. not ideal but I can handle that. So yeah the time kind of sucks, especially if you're in the United States. It's actually gonna suck more for Singapore. Which is next week. And then of course the rain, which I don't know. Everyone's overreacting to rain. Like we're not gonna know. Darksideday: just say it's it's fake news I think. I've just been on the F1 website. Fifty percent Friday, forty percent Saturday, thirty percent Sunday. f1capper: You you can you can throw out any percentages that I keep saying and then I I think I've said this about Singapore too. You could throw out any percentages. Same with Florida and Miami. It won't matter because that percentage just it's gonna fluctuate it's literally by the minute it fluctuates. It's just Darksideday: Yeah. Google says no rain. It's like ten percent. It's not it never rains. It never rains in F one. That's we do know it doesn't rain. f1capper: You don't know. You just it yeah. When they say it's not gonna rain, it rains. When it does rain, it it w when they say it's going to rain, it doesn't rain. So let's just tamper on the on the rain and this is how you should approach it. Like wait till literally an hour of the session, two hours of the of that session, and check the reports. You know, that's gonna be your Darksideday: People in F one and journalists like to exaggerate or hype up, it could be a wet race. f1capper: Yeah, it's that's and yeah. So I I don't expect the if I had to pr like predict, because you know, I'm Apex Insiders Weatherman, I'm not gonna there's gonna be no rain on for the race. I do believe there might be some impacts for qualifying. Maybe. Then that's just the strong maybe. I think that's that's probably where you'll see some of the rain. But other otherwise like just We won't know until you get to like literally an hour before the session to see like okay, what's they even said it wasn't supposed to rain today in Malaysia and it started pissing rain. So like that that tells you a lot. Like you just can't predict it. so what does that mean for this weekend? What does that mean for our bets? Well, it's not gonna change my mind on a free money Thursday, since it's gonna be Thursday still, technically, for FP one. Well, actually it goes Thursday into Friday for us. I am taking margin over point two at plus one seventy five, two point seven five. I remember and looked back and pretty much in FP one it seemed like all the margin was going over like point three, point four, point five, whatever it is. And I think, you know, at a track like this where everyone's still trying to get acclimated and you know, they're gonna use FP one to kinda get their self situated with this type of track. The you you're gonna have to bring some down force here, so some, not a whole lot. So there it's gonna be a lot of tweaking in FP one and I and I imagine like they're gonna be playing a lot with the you know types of energy management they're gonna be doing and how they're gonna do it. So I don't know. I I'm not like you know, running to the hills and saying this is the bet of free money Friday, but I did like the over point two five considering it was plus one seventy five. Obviously I would love two to one, but that's not gonna happen. So yeah, what do you think? First session too. It's the first session. Everyone's getting just like, let's get acclimated. Darksideday: Yeah, I think so. There's gonna be some drivers here who haven't even done a lap here. I I know they've been the simulator and all that, but you don't know where they are in their testing of their upgrades. Mercedes come here with an upgrade, floor upgrades, I believe. Why not? f1capper: Yeah, and McLaren is gonna still try to tweak with what their upgrades w are doing. it is an interesting Darksideday: Lander will go purple, purple, pit, she don't have to worry about it, right? f1capper: He's done that so many times and screwed some people and me. but you do bring up an interesting point, which is I mean I mean we could argue pretty much three-fourths of the grid has never even touched this track. I'm sure they have, but other than like Lewis, Max, Alonzo, who else? Signs. Darksideday: Perez. Ocon signs, gasly, stroll, bottas, perez, hulk, yeah. f1capper: Perez. Yes, Perez. So about half. We got ba we got about half. We've got about half. Okay. So we're about half. But the younger guys, I think there's I think I saw a comment on on X about man, guys like Bordoletto are not gonna do as well because they never sa Well it's not like these cars are actually really, really, really hard to drive for these for these young guys. They actually Been adapting pretty fast. When you look at like Lin Bell and Linblad and Bordoletto, Kimmy, those guys have been able to jump in and produce results over guys that have been on the grid forever. So I I expect that it won't be as volatile as as some say for some of the younger guys. Jump on the sim, they'll be able to kind of get a feel of what they're doing. And then once they get out there, yes, it's time to get a feel of the car and whatnot. So yeah. But I like the Free Money Friday pick. I don't think there are other there I don't think anyone's posted practice plays. Yeah, I checked again. I didn't see anything. Darksideday: fair, I don't think they're they're up apart from the margin. f1capper: Well, the only thing w on bet three sixty five was the margin, which is Darksideday: Usually I think three six five posts on a Thursday. And f1capper: They do. Darksideday: then that's it, yeah. Yeah, they only got margin out, three six five. f1capper: Yeah, that's it. That's it. So that we don't have anything to talk, I don't think about practice, but I could just you know, let's not overthink this, you know. Most likely, depending on what the odds are, top three Leclerc. I mean, I feel like that's gonna be something we're gonna have to slam. I mean, it's just he's an FP one merchant when it comes to top three. so yeah, I think that is gonna be in my cards. I am gonna temper on Bort over Hulk Hulkenberg this weekend. I do want to see how Bort is progressing, you know. Is he gonna be for the first at least two sessions? Like is he is he like like two tenths, Darksideday: Gonna take to the track. f1capper: three tenths, is how how many tenths is he gonna be ahead of of Hulk or is it vice versa? So we'll see. I'm gonna s I'm gonna I'm gonna qu I I'm tempted, but I'm gonna I'm gonna let it just play out. So yeah, what do you th what do you have? What are you thinking? What are you what are you eyeing this weekend? Darksideday: I'm not I'm not a I'm not a Friday person usually. f1capper: Well no, it doesn't have to be Friday. We're done with we're done with practice. Let's let's move on to let's Darksideday: It would dumb practice. f1capper: let's move on to qualifying in in the race. Darksideday: Well, tomorrow we have the team well, the driver press conf conference I wanna see. In particular Mercedes and their upgrades. I think there was a report saying it's just a flaw this week, so it most likely won't be any penalty. But I was thinking Mercedes double podium. Minus one twenty, maybe, maybe. f1capper: Hey Well well there was someone that pointed out you can parlay the top three between both and get plus one thirty or plus one twenty nine. So I was like, you know it Darksideday: Ooh. That was a US person there, I think. f1capper: it is on Caesars. So there is that option. I am tempted. I said Darksideday: I would take that. f1capper: I said I was gonna stay away from double markets this weekend, but man, that's actually not bad. Darksideday: I remember last week I was like, Yeah, George Russell Evans, podium, didn't take f1capper: Yeah. Darksideday: it. Terrible. f1capper: Yeah, I know. And there was another one where I was I left money on the table. Red Bull, I think they were at like one point six or something like that. One point six three, four. was it was it points? Yeah. no or yeah, Darksideday: double points. yeah, Ripple double points. Yeah, minus two hundred I think. f1capper: yeah, yep, yep. I I'm kicking myself for not doing that. Just like what yeah Darksideday: Easily in the points. f1capper: easily. Easily. So yeah, I'm kinda disappointed in myself for that. So it's all right. We move on. We've had some good wins. We had a pretty good week in considering the race didn't kinda went sour for me on the race, but it's all right. This shit happens. Darksideday: Well, can we say Lance Troll DNF'd? We just say that. f1capper: Savior, savior. Now the market Darksideday: Ha ha. f1capper: the market's been banned. Once one time, that's it. It's this Darksideday: One time only. One time only chance. Now minus two hundred. f1capper: god, just crazy, crazy, crazy. So I I'm surprised we didn't like do that more often. We we where were you to say like you were sitting here messing around with you were you were messing Darksideday: But four races ago. f1capper: with hey last classified or we could have just done do not finish. Darksideday: Not classified, yeah, even worse. f1capper: yeah, just just does not even finish the race. Just him. Just doesn't finish. Darksideday: I tell you that tell you what, the one time we did that three free races earlier, it would have just killed the price before that anyway. f1capper: Yeah, probably. Darksideday: Notice how we all do it and then suddenly it's gone. It's gone. Yeah. f1capper: It's it's gone. Yeah. This is what we do. We just kill the markets. It's no like just no fun. No fun, man. yeah, for like I'm struggling because I keep wanting to do something for qualifying or a race. But I said I'm I'm approaching this weekend same like mad ring and just any other new track that we're we're going to, which is like, hey, let's not get too trigger happy. Let's let's see let's see with our eyes and and see the data as well as we're getting through sessions to validate some stuff. Cause in Mad Ring, that's exactly what I did until like things blew back in our face with you saw what happened there. Yeah, I think for this weekend though, I will say obviously Mercedes is gonna be the top team, but how are the others gonna shake out? So this has two long straights. That's like where does McLaren fit into that equation? Because we just saw how terrible they were on the streets, but also Ferraris lacked that speed as well. And then we saw Red Bull just absolutely dominate in that in that area, right? They just dominated overall in Baku. I do want to caution this because but Baku is just a completely different style of track and it was a street circuit compared to what we're about to Deal with this has definitely got more twists, more turns. It's got the low, medium, high speed types of turns, which this is where my mind keeps like, Well, I don't want to get too trigger happy with Max 2 or Red Bull just because you know they're very sensitive to balance imperfections, you know, like something may not be going well for them, and this is where a track can do that to you because you've got to find the right balance to compare. compete with all those types of cornering and the all the turns and everything else. So I'm I'm kinda like, man, it's it feels like it's too easy to take Max right now. So Darksideday: Would you take hijar top six? Plus one twenty f1capper: You know. Darksideday: five. f1capper: I don't want to do that. Just because this is this is why it's because I think we will see a better McLaren here than we did at Baku. And they were not bad. It was just that straight line was just that was such a killer for them. And then yes, we had the terrorism by Colapento take out Norris. But there was other things that was going on wrong with with McLaren that weekend. And I don't think we're gonna see that. Like they ha apparently he had Norris had the issue with what is fuel injector and there was some floor damage that impacted his pace. I don't think we got it Darksideday: And also I think he got caught up by the yellow flags in qualifying 'cause he was like f1capper: Yes. Darksideday: looking for Nepal. f1capper: Yes. And then Piastri was he was holding up. He was he was doing what he could. And then, you know, the caution really just, you know, messed things up for him. But like everywhere else at this track, this fits McLaren, except for those straights. But if they can get past if they can really just whiz through these corners, maybe that that deficit won't matter as much. I don't think. I don't know. So that's why I don't want to, you know, be too cute with it. And then Darksideday: You're getting me excited for land on us to Singapore, but anyway, this next f1capper: I I mean, Darksideday: thing. f1capper: I think it's just saying, man, like the car is fine. It's just that is the like the one thing they said was the updates work the way they were supposed to. They correlated exactly how they wanted to. There were just some unfortunate situations, unfortunate circumstances. And yes, the one thing still lacking in their philosophy is that they just are terrible when it comes to straight line speed, and that may not be so much be the arrow as much as it's the optimization of the engine, the gear ratios and all the other things to to correlate with the arrow. So if that makes any sense to you guys. That like basically they just it's the same damn like philosophy they've been using year over year over year. It's a draggy car. They're trying to reduce the drag, but they're also seeing some deficiencies when it comes to their their horsepower, and correlating that with the current arrow. So Darksideday: talking about another car that didn't do well with the upgrades that you back to point f1capper: Audi. Darksideday: are how do you f1capper: Yeah. I mean it would have been fine. but I kinda expected they weren't going to be like as powerful just because, yes, they've also are similar to McLaren where they don't have top end speed. They're they're Audi is still developing their their engine, right? Like they're still trying to get up to speed with that. But I think they will do better here just because again, that's the same characteristic that they do better when it gets to slow low and medium speeds. But yes, they might have a deficit in in the straight line speed. And I actually think that if we're kind of shifting over to the midfield, I actually think this is probably a an area where Alpine struggles. So that kind of goes into a play. Although I took it because of the odds, and apparently you could get it three to one. Holkenberg or Bort Bordoletto, three to one. I got it at plus two seventy on Calci. just a half unit at top ten. Just because I think that they Alpine is not gonna do as well here. This is where they might find some some struggles in terms of how the track layout works. it's not gonna be just stop, point, and go for them. So I know that they had some struggles there in previous tracks, but you you never know. Maybe they find it. Again, this is we won't know until we get out there and how these teams are gonna do, but that also plays into I think Audi's hands to say like if Alpine does struggle, Then that should bump them back up. So Darksideday: You think that's the same with the racing bulls as well? f1capper: Racing Bulls should Racing Bulls should be fine, but that's the one team I would be worried about is challenging Audi is is that those those two. But at the same time, I'm like Lawson is kind of a donkey. Lynnblad as well. So maybe that plays into the hand. That's why I kind of like the Audi's where they're at right now. Like I honestly, out of all the the young drivers right now on the grid outside of Kimmy. I think Bordoletto is really he's on it, man. He's he's pretty good. He knows he's a pretty good driver. So he's been pretty consistent too. So I I I like what he's doing. And then Holkenberg has, you know, he has some experience at this track. He should be able to do know what to do. And his only problem is is he's kind of got the Lewis Hamilton problem, which is he's just doesn't qualify well. So he just always has that problem with qualifying for some reason. Darksideday: You're gonna say he's an old man? f1capper: He is an old man, just like me. Just like me, you know? so yeah, that's kind of like where my head's at with how I'm approaching the weekend. And obviously, like this is just kind of playing by what I've seen in the past, this track characteristic and what I think going in, but doesn't mean that that will all translate. And I also think the Williams will will not see the same results because they looked good last week. But I wonder if a lot of that from their upgrades is because it's, you know, again, that tra that characteristic, you know, and they were finding they were finally extracting speed on the straights. But now we got turns, we got these twists and turns. Like, how is that car going to do in the twists and turns? Because when you listen to Vals, he's he says that, you know, don't get your hopes up on these updates. It's not going to be the thing that's going to really get us, you know, right up there with the the midfield, but it will get us closer to the midfield. So they did have a fortunate situation last week. Now we're getting to a new track. So I don't see them being like top ten, but you never know. maybe that maybe those updates do work. Maybe they we c see in on Friday and they're like just killing it, so. So that's where Darksideday: And you wouldn't you wouldn't really back anyone else, would you? No not a house and definitely not the others. f1capper: So I can't I just I don't know what's g I just don't get is Haas actually they find something. That's something I still don't know. That's been the wild card in the midfield. Cause it seemed like for months they just like they were nowhere at all. And all of a sudden you're like, hey, you know, they seem to be pretty competitive. Ocon's been he's been on it for these past three races. Like stup Are they going to find something here, maybe? So I don't know. So at this point, I was just taking what the best odds were in that midfield for what I've seen and how the the the team has been been working. And Audi to me at like close to three to one at top ten, I will take that because I it could get it can get longer, but I don't see it getting much longer because if you start getting it to four to one, they would have to be absolute piss to do. speed at four to one. They would have to be like Darksideday: Yeah. f1capper: caddy like type of pace. And I just don't see that at a track like this. So that's why I wanted to take out of the midfield they I think they were they had some of the best odds. I did not want to talk to like a racing bull or anything like that. Darksideday: Yeah, that's fair enough. f1capper: But I don't know what else to take, man. I'm going back and forth. Max, I don't think I would want to take at seven to one qualifying. It seems like qualifying he might be able to. But I I j I heard Darksideday: That seems a bit on the short side. f1capper: It's it seems short, yes. And then I what he did he even get a pole position this year? One, maybe? Like all the all those races that he know Darksideday: Mm. I don't think so. f1capper: All the races that he normally had, this is why I would say I wouldn't even mess with him at qualifying. If you are very bullish on on Max, you should be taking his top three right now, which is very possible I'll still be doing. Like you can find a plus one twenty plus I don't know, even money. Darksideday: He hasn't no. He hasn't got a pole position. f1capper: Yeah. So there's some it just seems like there's something there where he I don't know if it has to do with the tires, his setup. Maybe it that maybe that could be the issue is like he's capping his pace when on low fuel and something's happening. He's maybe overheating his tires when everyone else has still got a little bit of pace, and that's why he's starting at like P four, P five, P six, and then all of a sudden the start of the race, he just finds his way all the way up to the front because he just he's has his car set up more for like the race day. I don't know. It's kind of unfortunate because you remember I was backing Max and I think it was Monaco where I was like so confident. I was like, Yeah, that guy is going to get into the top three. He doesn't even start in DNFs at the at the line. And that was like, I'm not doing this Darksideday: Yeah. f1capper: again. And all of a sudden he's getting like top. All he did was Darksideday: Well he did d when did he call a five second? Yeah. f1capper: all he did after that was get top threes. And I was like, Are you fucking kidding me? So I put a lot of money on him. I I I had Darksideday: That that was painful for a lot of us. That was painful for a lot of us. f1capper: I had a lot of money on that specific because I also had n no DNS in the first lap. And I was like, You're kidding me. Like I just lost five units literally right off the the lights out. I was like, Are you just him doing nothing? So Darksideday: Tradition. f1capper: traditions, yep. So I do think if you do if you're high on Max, you just take his top three now. I think he's seven to one to win the race too. Yeah, I mean I would rather have ten to one because I feel like Darksideday: He was the last winner of the Malaysian Grand Prix. f1capper: No. So Ferrari like every team has a flaw going into this except for Mercedes. And I think that's been we've been a broken record on that. I just don't know. I wanna see who's gonna come out on top. And I just don't wanna get too cute with it because I think the opportunities will be coming through the F P sessions into qualifying. I don't know. Darksideday: Would you back George Russell to win the race plus three fifty? f1capper: I'm not too too crazy about it. I think four to one is is is better. It's four to one or longer. for some reason I just feel like this may not be like we're gonna come back to old Russ for some reason. Like he's just gonna be like, I can't seem to get a grip of this car. He's he's he's you know, again, it's a different track than what we're seeing at Baku. Darksideday: Do think he just looked really good at Baku 'cause there was no Kimi? Like that could be f1capper: I don't think I I think I think he just that he just liked that that style of track. Go straight, hard breaking, in turn, point and turn. It just seemed like Darksideday: Yeah. f1capper: he was finding his rhythm through the minute he stepped on the track. because he wasn't like that w at Monza. Monza, he was kinda s on the struggle bus. And that was h Darksideday: Yeah. f1capper: high speed and those kind of turns and stuff. He just wasn't there. And that's what we've seen through consistently through. The year the year from him. What was it Canada where he did well? Right? Was it Canada? Darksideday: yeah, we were swapping fight swapping with Kimmy all the time. And then we just broke down, yeah. f1capper: Yeah, he was but he was doing fine. And that Darksideday: Yeah. f1capper: type of track is a power track, right? Same like I don't know, like I just Darksideday: He does struggle with rate space and I think he was fairly lucky that Kippy was nowhere near him, personally. f1capper: I I think if you do like it, three fifty or you know, around that price is not a bad idea if you do think that Merced or McLaren or Ferrari are not going to do well. If you think they're gonna be behind Mercedes the entire time both drivers, you should be taking him at three fifty then. But I also don't I don't buy it yet with Russ. And I don't wanna put my hard earned money on him and get cute with it. I'd rather wait, validate. And if it gets down to like I mean, you saw what happened last week. I was able to get Russ for for the outright at plus one seventy five. Like I would rather do that. Let me get the validation and confirmation and I'll pay a little bit of a premium to have it at shorter odds. You know? So if I have the same type of situation happen and I see him doing well Up until FP three is done and he's just like dominating like he did last week, yeah, then maybe I'll be taking my shot at him. So plus I don't know if it's if it's gonna rain, all that. Like I if it does rain, I don't want I don't wanna have my money backing him in that situation. Darksideday: Yeah. f1capper: I'm sorry, I just don't. I'd rather have Norris or Max or someone else. Darksideday: Right, I have there's a boost here on Bet three six five. I'm gonna tell you the selections and not the f1capper: Okay. Darksideday: price. You have to get guess the price. So f1capper: Okay. Darksideday: Mercedes is called Mercedes Masterclass. Fastest qualifying car, Mercedes. Mercedes to win the race, Mercedes most points in the race, and Mercedes fastest lap. What do you think the price should be for that? f1capper: that's a lot. geez. So fastest lap. Darksideday: Most points. f1capper: Mercedes most points for both Mercedes, qualifying winner, pole winner. Darksideday: Yeah, I'm race runner. f1capper: that should be like thirty-five to forty to one? Darksideday: Really? Well, you could get it on three hundred sixty five port plus two hundred fifty. f1capper: I mean, I don't know. Like, I've never combined all four of those things. Like considering that they have Mercedes to win at like what minus one fifty. I mean, that is tough. Fastest lap. When you add that, that should bump it up to over a hundred for sure, actually. Sure. Darksideday: I I did see that and think that that's a terrible price, but just What about f1capper: I I d I Darksideday: classified market? Yeah, go on. f1capper: No, no, I would what is that is that you just creating that or was that an actual offer that the Darksideday: No, no, no, that's an actual boost they've got on. f1capper: my god. Yeah, that's donation all the way. When you have when you had fast slap, I mean I I totally ignored that market now. Darksideday: Without fastest lap it's sort of the same thing, nearly, but f1capper: Yeah. No, I don't want any part of that. I don't want any part of that. Darksideday: with fastest lap it is. Okay, total classified drivers. Okay, I think we found it. I think we found over eighteen point five plus one ten. f1capper: Yes, yes, yes. Darksideday: Where's the bell? Where's the bell icon? Ding ding ding ding here. f1capper: Yes. Has one hit this year? It didn't hit last week. I know that for sure. Darksideday: I think I think Jens was on whatever, over whatever, and then I think it was gonna hit, and then I just saw about ten cars getting knocked out of that note. f1capper: Just bowling balled through like everyone. That was just that ruined everyone's day, I think. Darksideday: It was slightly unlucky, I have to say, Colapinto, 'cause he was braking and then a car just went out of nowhere, moved to the left, and I f1capper: Started turning. Darksideday: think he got off the brakes for one second and then I just did him over. f1capper: Yeah, I don't know, man. I think I'm still very cautious of the classified market that it just I have to go back and see but my mind is starting to tell because at at this track though, s you know, assuming there's no rain, at least there's runoffs, right? There's a lot of runoffs here that you can it's not like it's gonna be a tight barrier place as as if it's like at Baku. How many actually DN did DNF to Italy? Let's let's see what that one was. Yeah, Monzo. Darksideday: And actually let me see. f1capper: Let's see see that Darksideday: Free. f1capper: on it was over eighteen and a half would have hit. There was nineteen.
