- 0:15Speaker 1: Oh, I'm your host, Ken Monroe, and every week we
- 0:19Speaker 1: dive into real life stories from the wild world of
- 0:22Speaker 1: work and what can happen when the wrong person gets
- 0:26Speaker 1: the job. These stories aren't just crazy, they're cautionary tales

- 0:59Speaker 3: Doing, all that kind of fun stuff. Yeah, I think
- 1:02Speaker 3: it's really cool. I love what you're doing.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Love the mission of the business and the mission of
- 1:05Speaker 1: the market you serve.
- 1:07Speaker 5: Yeah, so pretty much, it's just a market agency that
- 1:10Speaker 5: helps charter schools grow. And as we've grown, we've had
- 1:14Speaker 5: to start hiring people, bringing people from all walks of life.
- 1:17Speaker 2: And it's been a.
- 1:18Speaker 5: Wild ride to be on top of a business that
- 1:22Speaker 5: kind of just is like on a rocket engine. It
- 1:24Speaker 5: wants to go, it wants to fly, and we're kind
- 1:27Speaker 5: of learning to fly as we go, and it's been
- 1:30Speaker 5: it's been really really fun. And that's why I think
- 1:33Speaker 5: this podcast is so interesting, because man, do I have
- 1:38Speaker 5: a few stories?
- 1:40Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:40Speaker 1: Have you've been around, If you've been around a little bit,
- 1:43Speaker 1: you've got you've got stories.
- 1:44Speaker 3: If you if you've hired people, you got you got if.
- 1:48Speaker 1: You haven't started, yeah, you got interview stories, you had
- 1:51Speaker 1: bad higher stories stories.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah you got good higher term bad higher stories. You know.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I mean I've had them all over the years. And
- 1:59Speaker 1: you know, whenever I'm hanging out with whenever I'm hanging
- 2:03Speaker 1: out with my boat, my folks that are like recruiting
- 2:05Speaker 1: and just hiring all the time, or it's like it
- 2:08Speaker 1: always it's always turns to that storry.
- 2:12Speaker 3: You know what happened? This guy just melted down. So yeah, that's.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Supurpose of the bad are So it's it's pretty cool.
- 2:20Speaker 1: So down, I love your business man, it's super cool.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I love what you've done with it. Your you know
- 2:26Speaker 1: your background is an airline pilot. Yeah, airline pilot turned entrepreneur.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Yeah, right, that is cool.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And then turn Marketer too, you justpect like turned engineering something.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Like check out down on LinkedIn because he has pretty
- 2:40Speaker 4: much your full life story in bullet boys. Yeah, and
- 2:43Speaker 4: we meagined you had a congress a couple months ago,
- 2:45Speaker 4: and we're like, this kind of might be like the
- 2:47Speaker 4: most interesting gun the conference.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Too nice. You all are buttering my bread.
- 2:54Speaker 5: But yeah, it's been it's been fun and I mean
- 2:56Speaker 5: tons of funny customer service story, isn't it airline space
- 3:01Speaker 5: with delays and whatnot, and so being able to take
- 3:04Speaker 5: that and then hiring stories.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Yeah. So as a reminder down, here's what we do.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Every week.
- 3:09Speaker 1: We unpacked some we unpack some bad hire stories with
- 3:12Speaker 1: an interview good higher term bad bad here from the beginning.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Whatever it is. We unpack the stories.
- 3:16Speaker 1: We go out and source them and try to find them.
- 3:19Speaker 1: But what we're really after is creating a pipeline of
- 3:24Speaker 1: people send in us stories that are out there in
- 3:26Speaker 1: the trenches that are experiencing this kind of stuff and
- 3:28Speaker 1: then sending them to us. And so we created a
- 3:30Speaker 1: contest that's ten thousand dollars contests.
- 3:32Speaker 3: If you send us the best story for this season.
- 3:34Speaker 1: We're going to give away ten thousand dollars. We're going
- 3:36Speaker 1: to give the best story ten thousand dollars award. And so,
- 3:42Speaker 1: you know, the stories can be crazy, wild, funny, you know, tragic,
- 3:47Speaker 1: there's a range rights.
- 3:49Speaker 3: It's not just about fun. Sometimes it's about like just.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Understanding the importance of hiring and recruiting and doing due diligence.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And you know when when something you know bad happens,
- 4:00Speaker 1: it's you know, those are still those.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Are really bad hire stories. So but we give away
- 4:05Speaker 3: the ten thousand dollars. That's our way. And so you
- 4:07Speaker 3: know you'll see us on LinkedIn.
- 4:08Speaker 1: We're running ads on LinkedIn and some other things trying
- 4:11Speaker 1: to get the word out to participate.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Send us your stuff and we'll tell it.
- 4:15Speaker 1: And if you send us a story, we'll tell the story.
- 4:17Speaker 1: We could invite you onto the show if it's a
- 4:19Speaker 1: really cool story. Yeah, you might even be a be
- 4:21Speaker 1: brought in to be a host for a couple of episodes.
- 4:23Speaker 3: It'll be fun.
- 4:24Speaker 1: You know, we're just looking to engage chop it up
- 4:26Speaker 1: with people who are in Yeah, I just want to
- 4:28Speaker 1: chop it up. People are in this business and hiring,
- 4:30Speaker 1: you know, that's it.
- 4:31Speaker 3: And so I know, you know.
- 4:33Speaker 1: You're you're growing your business and you just have a career.
- 4:36Speaker 1: If you if by the time you've had a career,
- 4:38Speaker 1: you've like you've either worked alongside a bad hire, you've
- 4:40Speaker 1: made a bad hire, whatever the bad hire.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so let's get started.
- 4:46Speaker 1: So back. This is one that was provided to me
- 4:51Speaker 1: back when I was a shift leader at a restaurant.
- 4:53Speaker 1: We had this high We had this high school hostess
- 4:56Speaker 1: who came in with a serious attitude problem.
- 4:59Speaker 3: She was wasn't a terrible worker at first, but.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Anytime I asked her to do something simple sweeping, wiping
- 5:07Speaker 1: down menus, resetting tables sounds like someone working in a restaurant,
- 5:11Speaker 1: so like typical things you would ask, she'd huff and
- 5:14Speaker 1: roll her eyes like I was singling around. She'd mutter
- 5:16Speaker 1: under a breath that I was always picking on her,
- 5:20Speaker 1: even though I was just as signing some normal things. Right, Hey,
- 5:23Speaker 1: I got this job that you this task that you
- 5:25Speaker 1: do at this job regularly, and.
- 5:29Speaker 3: You've turned it into picking. So it built up over time,
- 5:32Speaker 3: and one night it came to a head.
- 5:33Speaker 1: She got so loud and belligerent on the floor the
- 5:37Speaker 1: manager had no choice but to send her home midshift.
- 5:41Speaker 3: I remember thinking, well, that's probably the last straw.
- 5:44Speaker 1: About twenty minutes later, it's another one of these return
- 5:47Speaker 1: stories police tell.
- 5:49Speaker 3: It's one of these return stories, like where they leave
- 5:51Speaker 3: and they come back like the Batman got.
- 5:53Speaker 2: They didn't get out of them.
- 5:55Speaker 1: More About twenty minutes later, the restaurant phone rings. I
- 5:59Speaker 1: pick it up, assuming that's a customer placing a takeout order.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Is still a woman's voice comes through, calm but threatening.
- 6:05Speaker 1: You better watch your back when you walk to your
- 6:08Speaker 1: car tonight. Oh wow, we went from wiping menus to
- 6:18Speaker 1: seriousness really quick. For a second, I froze, and then
- 6:21Speaker 1: it clicked. This wasn't some random brain call. I recognized
- 6:24Speaker 1: that voice. This was the hostess's older sister. We called
- 6:30Speaker 1: the police, ride away and fought a report, just to
- 6:32Speaker 1: be safe. But that night, when I left, I made
- 6:34Speaker 1: sure someone walked me onto my car, because honestly, I
- 6:37Speaker 1: didn't know if she actually showed up in the parking lot.
- 6:39Speaker 3: But after that I never saw her again.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Months later, though, I heard from someone still at the restaurant,
- 6:46Speaker 1: Oh she must she.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Must have left.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I heard from someone still at the restaurant that she'd
- 6:50Speaker 1: actually been rehired. Okay, after I left, same girl, same attitude,
- 6:55Speaker 1: back on the schedule, like nothing had ever happened, and
- 6:58Speaker 1: the older sister was probably watching at a distance, watching nearby.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Man, there's somebody seeing in the corner booth. Who is that?
- 7:06Speaker 3: Who is this thing about? This retaliation thing? Like they
- 7:09Speaker 3: I don't know, like.
- 7:11Speaker 1: You get in trouble, you and this this rehire, this
- 7:14Speaker 1: rehair thing really speaks to how hard it.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Is to find people. It just does, I guess, so
- 7:18Speaker 3: even when they're not that great. Yeah, I mean I
- 7:21Speaker 3: got a complainer. Yeah all right.
- 7:26Speaker 5: Well I feel like that is it gets so much
- 7:29Speaker 5: more dangerous when one person is on their team and
- 7:34Speaker 5: they've heard one side of the story, and so now
- 7:37Speaker 5: they are coming in with all their rage that they
- 7:39Speaker 5: have from that one sided storytelling, And that's even more
- 7:42Speaker 5: dangerous than the person that was going crazy, because at
- 7:46Speaker 5: least they kind of maybe figured out later. I'm like, Okay,
- 7:49Speaker 5: maybe I overreacted, But once you deliver that seed.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Of like vengeance to someone that loves you.
- 7:57Speaker 3: What do you got? What do you got? Or downing
- 8:01Speaker 3: with you guys?
- 8:02Speaker 2: All right? Cool?
- 8:04Speaker 5: So first this will be actually a Charter Connect my
- 8:07Speaker 5: company's story and because I mean, as a young entrepreneur,
- 8:14Speaker 5: we're needing to hire faster than we know how to
- 8:18Speaker 5: and we were trying.
- 8:21Speaker 2: To figure it out.
- 8:21Speaker 5: And maybe later in the episode, if you'd like, I
- 8:23Speaker 5: could explain how we've kind of evolutionized.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Our process to avoid this.
- 8:27Speaker 3: But I was.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Before starting Charter Connect.
- 8:32Speaker 5: I was a missionary and I met someone that was
- 8:35Speaker 5: serving with me as another missionary, like, oh, he's got
- 8:38Speaker 5: to be a good guy, right, because he's out doing
- 8:40Speaker 5: volunteer work and we're down in South America doing some
- 8:44Speaker 5: missionary work. And then he goes back to his home
- 8:48Speaker 5: country of Guatemala. I go back to my home and
- 8:54Speaker 5: we send messages, we stay close. He actually names one of.
- 8:58Speaker 2: His kids after me.
- 9:00Speaker 5: Oh wow, And he said, I just want to let
- 9:01Speaker 5: you know I named my youngest son after you.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I was like, I didn't wow. What an honor. I
- 9:07Speaker 2: don't even know what to say.
- 9:10Speaker 5: And he reaches out and says, hey, I'm you know, struggling.
- 9:13Speaker 5: I would you know if there's anything I could do.
- 9:16Speaker 5: I know that you just started this new company, like
- 9:19Speaker 5: heck yeah, like that's why I started this thing in
- 9:21Speaker 5: the first place, is to help my tribe. So of course,
- 9:24Speaker 5: like completely no background check, no hey have you been
- 9:28Speaker 5: in the it's been five years since we've spoken. And
- 9:33Speaker 5: he hops on this interview with my twin brother who
- 9:35Speaker 5: doesn't know him, and he's wearing he looks like Osama
- 9:40Speaker 5: bin Laden like in a case, like he has got
- 9:42Speaker 5: this big old beard and this army jacket and there's
- 9:45Speaker 5: just like goats behind him. Like I'm like where are you?
- 9:49Speaker 5: And he's like I'm in the mountains of Guatemala, like
- 9:52Speaker 5: this is where I live. And like the connection was
- 9:55Speaker 5: really bad because he's like using the hot spot and
- 9:58Speaker 5: I was like, whoa, well this is saying like you're
- 10:00Speaker 5: living like a mountain man and not like a house
- 10:04Speaker 5: but like a yeah, but I'm thinking, okay, you know
- 10:08Speaker 5: what I yeah, Like he's just.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Like all of us.
- 10:13Speaker 5: We can't judge him based off of like where he
- 10:15Speaker 5: lives or his economic condition, so kind of just keep
- 10:21Speaker 5: moving forward with him.
- 10:22Speaker 2: We bring him on.
- 10:24Speaker 5: And he is just like not showing up for anything.
- 10:29Speaker 5: And eventually he says, you know what, I want to
- 10:33Speaker 5: go to a city that's about like eight hour drive
- 10:37Speaker 5: called Katsutanango, and I want to go there and I
- 10:39Speaker 5: want to try to see if I can sell our
- 10:41Speaker 5: services to schools here in Walmal and I know a
- 10:43Speaker 5: few schools there like Shure.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Yeah, whatever, like here's I'll pay your bus fee or whatever.
- 10:49Speaker 2: And we don't hear anything from him.
- 10:52Speaker 5: And a few weeks later, I get a call from
- 10:55Speaker 5: this international number that I don't know, Hello, and it's.
- 11:02Speaker 2: His beautiful sweetheart wife and says, do you know of
- 11:08Speaker 2: our friends? Like where he is?
- 11:09Speaker 5: I'm like, I know that he went to kits She's like, oh, well,
- 11:14Speaker 5: stop sending him money because that's where his other girl
- 11:18Speaker 5: lives and we haven't seen.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Him in months. I was like, uh okay.
- 11:25Speaker 5: And then as soon as the money stops flowing to
- 11:29Speaker 5: my friend, that's when he gets on the calls like, hey,
- 11:31Speaker 5: where's my paycheck?
- 11:33Speaker 3: I'm trying to sell your stuff, yeah.
- 11:35Speaker 2: And so and then well, that's the nice thing.
- 11:36Speaker 3: About taking a sales shop is you can last a
- 11:38Speaker 3: while for I just.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Have I got to building a nice pipeline.
- 11:42Speaker 5: I just get away three or four months of that
- 11:44Speaker 5: planning season. The harvest comes later and so yeah, and
- 11:47Speaker 5: then when we let him go, he was so confused.
- 11:51Speaker 2: He had no idea why. And so and uh, my.
- 11:55Speaker 5: Friend, if you if you're listening to this, are watching this,
- 11:58Speaker 5: I still care about you, love you. But yeah, man,
- 12:00Speaker 5: that was did me dirty?
- 12:01Speaker 2: Yeah, you did me dirty?
- 12:03Speaker 3: Yeah, So that's graty.
- 12:05Speaker 4: How long ago is that?
- 12:07Speaker 2: Who?
- 12:07Speaker 5: That was at the very beginning of trying to connect
- 12:09Speaker 5: that was when we were a little baby was crawling
- 12:11Speaker 5: out of our little cribs. It was probably twenty twenty two, yeah,
- 12:14Speaker 5: and we started in November of twenty twenty one.
- 12:16Speaker 3: So yeah, all.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Right, So what about you, Nathan, would you got baby?
- 12:20Speaker 1: I was good man, all right, all right, the disappearing
- 12:23Speaker 1: goat man like into the metal ran with the goat
- 12:27Speaker 1: man who ran away to be with another.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, all right.
- 12:29Speaker 3: So here's what I got.
- 12:30Speaker 4: I got two stories, got time for two stories.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Here we go.
- 12:34Speaker 4: A friend of mine in hr at a museum was
- 12:37Speaker 4: told me about one of the strangest cases that they've
- 12:40Speaker 4: ever dealt with. They had a senior staff member whose
- 12:42Speaker 4: specialty at the museum was Alexander Hamilton right. At first,
- 12:47Speaker 4: it was just a passion for the subject, but over
- 12:50Speaker 4: time it went from passion to something else. Entirely, he
- 12:53Speaker 4: stopped just studying Hamilton and started actually behaving like he
- 12:57Speaker 4: was Hamilton, so no one could tell he thought that
- 13:00Speaker 4: he was him reincarnated or if he's really deep in character.
- 13:04Speaker 4: And even his emails over time became almost impossible to
- 13:08Speaker 4: read because he stopped writing in plain English. He's only
- 13:12Speaker 4: using eighteenth century language taken from Hamilton's letters and writings.
- 13:16Speaker 4: And if someone disagreed with him in a meeting, he'd
- 13:19Speaker 4: accuse him of insulting his honor, and he would fire
- 13:22Speaker 4: back with period appropriate insults like sir, how dare you
- 13:25Speaker 4: besmirsh my honor with such lander?
- 13:27Speaker 3: You know that kind of thing.
- 13:29Speaker 4: He even tried to rewrite the museum sign as an
- 13:31Speaker 4: exhibit to exhibits to reflect his personal version of Hamilton's story,
- 13:36Speaker 4: so not even like, you know, the historical one, regardless
- 13:39Speaker 4: of whether or not it was actually historically accurate.
- 13:42Speaker 3: So the breaking.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Point came when he challenged a coworker to a duel seriously,
- 13:48Speaker 4: like over disagreement.
- 13:50Speaker 2: That's very Hamilton on.
- 13:52Speaker 3: One of the exhibits, So that was it. Hr had
- 13:55Speaker 3: to step in at that point.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Because of the duel, and then the police were called
- 13:58Speaker 4: after the duel, and then after the due he was
- 14:00Speaker 4: escorted outside of the building. So I guess they never
- 14:03Speaker 4: heard back from that denner Helmmele thing.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Again, that's crazy. I mean, it was just the characterrafting
- 14:08Speaker 3: is real, I guess, dang man.
- 14:11Speaker 5: I mean, I feel like they probably should have taken
- 14:13Speaker 5: him to the public square for a flogging or more
- 14:16Speaker 5: like time appropriate that.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Like, na, you don't actually like that time the period?
- 14:19Speaker 3: Put him in the stock, aid, Is that what it is?
- 14:22Speaker 3: When you put the people that the socks? Yeah, the stocks, Yeah,
- 14:24Speaker 3: that's right, and put him in the stocks for put
- 14:28Speaker 3: in the stocks. It'll be okay after that. It's just funny.
- 14:31Speaker 4: The picture of him going on the Microsoft teams sending
- 14:35Speaker 4: emails as Alexander Hamlet.
- 14:37Speaker 2: This is ah just checking in right.
- 14:40Speaker 3: This is Hammy.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Before we dive back into the chaos on the bad hire,
- 14:45Speaker 1: this episode is brought to you by be Checks. Hiring

- 15:23Speaker 1: ex dot io.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Store number two for me.
- 15:28Speaker 4: So every HR manager has a hiring horror story of
- 15:31Speaker 4: their own, and ours came in when we were in
- 15:34Speaker 4: a desperate We're desperate to fill a critical role in
- 15:36Speaker 4: our team. We'd interviewed dozens and dozens of candidates, but
- 15:40Speaker 4: none of them.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Were really the right fit. After weeks of searching, we're
- 15:43Speaker 3: starting to lose home.
- 15:44Speaker 4: Then finally someone came along who seemed to check every
- 15:48Speaker 4: box that we needed. They're smart, personable, confident, at least
- 15:52Speaker 4: on paper, and they are exactly the skill set that
- 15:54Speaker 4: we needed.
- 15:55Speaker 3: After back to back interviews, we are convinced.
- 15:57Speaker 4: It's like we struck gold. We made offer on the
- 16:00Speaker 4: spot and for a moment everything looked great, but then
- 16:04Speaker 4: the background check came back. It was kind of common
- 16:06Speaker 4: theme and that's when the bottom fell out.
- 16:09Speaker 3: It turns out that they.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Had fabricated almost everything, their qualifications, their experience, all those
- 16:15Speaker 4: specific skills that they swore that they had more than
- 16:18Speaker 4: half of what they claimed to be able to do,
- 16:21Speaker 4: they could do at all.
- 16:22Speaker 3: So it looked like the perfect fit ended.
- 16:24Speaker 4: Up being complete fraud and just a reminder that sometimes
- 16:27Speaker 4: even the best looking resume is a very creative piece
- 16:30Speaker 4: of fiction.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I think recruiters deal with this all the time.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Probably.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Yeah, just like we found it perfect and yeah, you know,
- 16:41Speaker 1: I was telling you not long ago about that that
- 16:43Speaker 1: like thread I read and it was in Reddit.
- 16:47Speaker 3: It was like people like telling people how to lie. Yeah,
- 16:51Speaker 3: you know, just make it up.
- 16:53Speaker 1: And just like people were coming down there and saying, yeah,
- 16:55Speaker 1: I told him I did this, and none of it
- 16:57Speaker 1: was true, and they were like congratulating each other their
- 17:00Speaker 1: own being so great that it was so wrong with
- 17:02Speaker 1: these companies to actually look.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Into this stuff, you know. And I was like, Wow,
- 17:06Speaker 3: what a mentality to have that this is.
- 17:07Speaker 1: How you defraud, right, just just just say that you
- 17:11Speaker 1: have the experience, Just make up that you work. There's
- 17:14Speaker 1: like cover any gap and in your in your work history,
- 17:18Speaker 1: just make up something.
- 17:20Speaker 5: Well, it's crazy how you can say one thing and
- 17:22Speaker 5: two people can take it totally differently. Like if you say, like, hey,
- 17:25Speaker 5: like fake it till you make it, one person might
- 17:27Speaker 5: be like, okay, like I just need to have confidence
- 17:29Speaker 5: and understand that we're all trying to figure that out, right,
- 17:32Speaker 5: and then.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Like, okay, you mean fake it.
- 17:35Speaker 2: God, I'm just following.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Why don't fake it? Let you make it? We like,
- 17:38Speaker 3: you know, have the confidence that you don't wrop yourself up.
- 17:41Speaker 3: I can fake it all day.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Yeah right, Like no, bro, well I was you know,
- 17:45Speaker 1: I was a senior vice president.
- 17:47Speaker 3: I think you're twenty two years old.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Very I'm just doing what my life coach is telling me.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Right, it's crazy. Yeah, you're right on. I do think
- 17:57Speaker 3: it's like it is prolifically out of.
- 18:02Speaker 1: And and and it happens even you get to like
- 18:07Speaker 1: it gets revealed sometimes when somebody makes it to like
- 18:09Speaker 1: a really senior position. There's several CEOs here, uh you
- 18:13Speaker 1: know popped who like in Charlotte, who made it to
- 18:16Speaker 1: the top of their organization. Then their their story of
- 18:19Speaker 1: their education or their story of their jobs, their history
- 18:22Speaker 1: unravels on.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Them, you know, and you know they get caught.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Up much earlier in their career when there wasn't so
- 18:28Speaker 1: much at stake, but then they drag it along with them.
- 18:32Speaker 1: You know, they can't change the story, you know, so
- 18:34Speaker 1: the more successful they become, you know it just it
- 18:38Speaker 1: must be incredibly taxing to have this kind of this
- 18:41Speaker 1: thing coming up over you, just getting larger and larger
- 18:44Speaker 1: in life, knowing I got here.
- 18:46Speaker 2: On a lie.
- 18:46Speaker 5: I mean, rocks in your back right, Yeah, yeah, yeah, terrible.
- 18:52Speaker 1: All right, man, Well that was good man. I'm like, bro,
- 18:56Speaker 1: appreciate it.
- 18:56Speaker 3: You were fun. That was good stuff.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Yeah, you were cruising through town and and I guess
- 19:02Speaker 1: you turned it into a when we said, hey, let's
- 19:05Speaker 1: let's let's do this thing, you you like turn it
- 19:07Speaker 1: into visiting some of your customers and seeing and meetings,
- 19:09Speaker 1: sent some new ones.
- 19:11Speaker 3: So we're I'm glad you made Duel use your time.
- 19:14Speaker 5: Yeah, it's it's cool because all the time we will hear, oh,
- 19:18Speaker 5: we'd love to partner. We'd love to partner. We love
- 19:20Speaker 5: to partner, and people forget that partnering means partnering. Yeah,
- 19:25Speaker 5: and you guys actually partner. Like I said, hey, like,
- 19:28Speaker 5: we'd love it if I can help out anyway.
- 19:30Speaker 2: And you're like, sure, are you that come on in
- 19:31Speaker 2: we'd love to. I'm like, we'll take up on that. Yeah,
- 19:33Speaker 2: And then we went out to lunch. It's like, these
- 19:35Speaker 2: guys actually mean what they say. Yeah, it's cool.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Yeah, but we're trying to get some free advertising agency
- 19:40Speaker 1: stuff from me. Eventually we're gonna ask because we hear
- 19:44Speaker 1: you're really good at it, and so, uh, charter schools
- 19:47Speaker 1: should absolutely use your company for short if they want
- 19:50Speaker 1: to grow.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Yeah, that's really cool.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I know you care, right and uh, and having a leadership,
- 19:56Speaker 1: having leadership that cares about executing for customers.
- 19:59Speaker 3: It's like high on those things to do.
- 20:01Speaker 1: And so you know, just getting to know you personally,
- 20:04Speaker 1: I know that you really care about the mission charter
- 20:06Speaker 1: school and you know, nothing would speak more volumes to
- 20:10Speaker 1: them than having somebody run in the company helping them
- 20:12Speaker 1: or that really really cares about it.
- 20:14Speaker 5: Would it be okay if just for maybe like thirty seconds,
- 20:17Speaker 5: I just pound through like what we've learned, Yeah, go
- 20:21Speaker 5: for it.
- 20:21Speaker 2: So and I haven't told anyone.
- 20:24Speaker 5: This, Okay, a secret stuff that is no longer top secret,
- 20:28Speaker 5: like this is declassified, Like I'm leaking this right.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Now on this on this episode.
- 20:33Speaker 5: That's awesome, And I'm not saying this is a perfect system.
- 20:36Speaker 5: I'm just saying that's what we're doing now. We would
- 20:38Speaker 5: just kind of hire whoever, and that was awful in
- 20:41Speaker 5: our business since then, what we do is we invite
- 20:46Speaker 5: people to a first interview and we asked them three questions.
- 20:50Speaker 5: We ask them why are manhole covers round? We give
- 20:53Speaker 5: them a really hard calculus problem of the day that
- 20:56Speaker 5: they can simply just google to find the answer, because
- 20:58Speaker 5: that's what we want to see is just that they're
- 21:00Speaker 5: willing to google. And then we give them like an
- 21:03Speaker 5: angry client email to answer and how they would respond.
- 21:06Speaker 5: And then after they do that, we give them two
- 21:08Speaker 5: books to read. If they're really interested, they'll read those
- 21:11Speaker 5: books and they'll schedule their second interview, and before they
- 21:14Speaker 5: even get in our candidate pool, we'll take from whoever.
- 21:17Speaker 5: But the most success we've ever had, and here's the
- 21:20Speaker 5: big secret is my brother's Air Force pilot. We post
- 21:26Speaker 5: our job postings on the Air Force fighter pilot's spouse page.
- 21:32Speaker 5: Because they are men and women who are following their
- 21:35Speaker 5: husband or wife. They can't really get a job anywhere
- 21:39Speaker 5: because they're always moving. They need a remote gig, they
- 21:42Speaker 5: need flexibility, they're taking care of a family.
- 21:44Speaker 2: They don't need four one k's and health insurance. So
- 21:48Speaker 2: it's a great fit for us.
- 21:50Speaker 5: And they're so intelligent, most of them have master's degrees.
- 21:53Speaker 5: They're so accomplished, but they just are looking for a
- 21:56Speaker 5: job because and the reason I say that is not
- 22:00Speaker 5: for everyone to go on the fire Pilot's fast page.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Right, but just ask yourself, like, you know, just get
- 22:05Speaker 2: washed out of that.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Brother, you're not one of a millionaires.
- 22:09Speaker 1: You're like, dude, I wanted I say that for it.
- 22:11Speaker 5: But the point is, just figure out what do you offer, Like,
- 22:15Speaker 5: we offer flexibility, We offer a good hourly wage, maybe
- 22:18Speaker 5: not an incredible sour salary, but for someone that's looking
- 22:22Speaker 5: for like a part time solid like forty dollars an
- 22:25Speaker 5: hours like whah yeah, and I have two hours a
- 22:28Speaker 5: day like and intelligent people who are integratable like so,
- 22:34Speaker 5: so whatever.
- 22:35Speaker 2: You need, try to find that space.
- 22:37Speaker 5: Yeah, and ask yourself, where are the people that I need?
- 22:40Speaker 2: Who do they talk to? And then find those spaces.
- 22:43Speaker 3: I love that process. You know, when you're when you're
- 22:46Speaker 3: growing a.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Business, it's the people part. It's it's always important. Ye,
- 22:50Speaker 1: it's always important. But when you are this big instead
- 22:54Speaker 1: of this big. It's like mission critically right, you can't
- 23:00Speaker 1: have any misses, right, and everybody affects your culture, and
- 23:04Speaker 1: so what a great way to do That's super cool.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Thanks for sharing that, dude. That was so cool. All right, man,
- 23:08Speaker 3: I enjoyed it. That was good. We'll hope to see
- 23:10Speaker 3: you again soon. All right, so much, We'll talk to
- 23:12Speaker 3: you later. Thanks for joining us.
