Transcript
- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, hello, welcome to another edition of the Ninernoy's podcast part of the fancited podcast network.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: This is the divisional round edition of the Ninernoy's podcast.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: My name is Robert Morrison and I contribute here and Ninernoy's.com and here with me as we prepare, as we get ready, just what like less than 30 hours until game time, um, instruction I was David Duelach, how are we feeling, man?
- 0:28[SPEAKER_03]: Boom, nervous, where I would, real nervous, but in the best way, because I'd rather feel this way than feel sad that the dinners were not playing tomorrow.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_03]: So take it, it's gonna be, yeah.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I've been thinking about this a little bit and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is the case that the 49ers have a chance to sort of rectify their last three NFC championship losses.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_03]: this postseason.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_03]: Seattle from the way a long time ago.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_03]: And then, you know, maybe the Rams, but in any case, in any case, right, like, and I'll probably touch back this at the end, but I'll mention it now.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_03]: Like, these playoff games between division rivals
- 1:25[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I don't know about our listeners, but for me, like that 2013 NFC championship game, that was the worst.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_03]: That was horrible.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_03]: So yes, terrible, horrible, miserable, hated watching the Super Bowl.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_03]: Don't even know why I did it.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was because I was too young to really have an opinion about whether or not it was on or not.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_03]: But by and large life, that's a pretty, like, for me anyway,
- 1:53[SPEAKER_03]: That's a pretty seminal moment and like my fandom is that game that's isn't that rivalry right and so like I think because of the injuries and because of the nature like the people are different and whatever and like see I was been kind of hot trash for the last few years and the Niners have been really good.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_03]: It kind of lost its lester but just like like putting it in the foreground that like this is like.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_03]: This is a big time rivalry, a huge rubber hatch game.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_03]: And I mean, super exciting, super stressful, but super exciting.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, anytime you can play a team for a third time in a season, especially with these kind of stakes, I think you're inevitably going to, like that's gonna, like up the ante, and the fact, and the fact of matters, you can only play your division team opponents three times.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's the only team that's possible to play that many times in one season.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: unless you, I guess, you count like the unlikely event that you could play a pre-season game, but I think they specifically do that on purpose so that you can't do that.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I mean, it's obviously two teams that are very familiar with each other, not only because of the division thing, but also because of the fact that Sam Donald was with the 49ers a couple of seasons ago,
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: there's just that in the true the true is I'm in this particular case of familiarity breeding contempt.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think very very honest and you know hopefully it'll make for an interesting game.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: Really, I have, I'm entering into this just like I did last week against Philadelphia where I'm just like, don't get embarrassed, like play better than you did, you know, two weeks ago, and yeah, if they lose and play if they play better and they lose than they're just like, okay, well, maybe they're maybe the seahawks are just the better team, but if they,
- 3:49[SPEAKER_03]: We're not allowed on that day.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: I will say on that day, that's what I meant, not the better team, like obviously, but if they kind of embarrass themselves again on national television and lose again, I think it'll kind of be like a like want want like the season has been so
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: like special in a lot of ways because of how it's worked out and I just feel like that would be just a, like they gotta, they gotta go out swinging regardless, like imagine if we gave team that had been the playoff game, like you'd been like, oh, okay, well, that's what you came with, huh?
- 4:25[SPEAKER_03]: That would be terrible.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_03]: No, what, don't even mention that, right?
- 4:30[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_03]: But now I totally agree, like, I think, you know,
- 4:37[SPEAKER_03]: because of scheduling reasons, we were unable to, I think even like recaps Seattle and preview the Eagles, that we didn't buy there, right?
- 4:45[SPEAKER_03]: So, did talk about that would have been, honestly, maybe for the best, that probably would have been the most pessimistic, I know it's been like entering the playoff run.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_03]: But not have sounded like, oh, they're in the playoffs.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_03]: But, no, I mean, I think you're right, right?
- 5:04[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot kind of going against the 49ers, both in terms of the health of their respective teams in many ways, the like composition, the fact that they're playing in Seattle, like, we'll get into those things.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_03]: And but like, part of the main thing is like, you just wanna be a fun game.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_03]: Bum for me is winning by 50.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, I don't really care if it's fun for the average viewer, but, you know,
- 5:32[SPEAKER_03]: I think you're exactly right.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_03]: You don't really want to have a situation where the miners look like they don't belong.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_03]: That would be super demoralizing.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, because like the general public is already having that thought, right?
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like they're the low.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you look at bedding odds, like they're the least likely team to win the Super Bowl at this particular point with eight teams left to go.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not some of the numbers like that, it's like not particularly close.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like their
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: whatever, the bedding points are, I don't know what they are.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: They're several hundred points.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a plus 1500 and the next team is like plus 800 or something like that.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: To win the Super Bowl, it's like really, it's not.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: that, we're not that much worse than the next team.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: But on some levels, from a like a bedding perspective, you kind of get it, like all the things you were saying, it's like, that makes sense.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: Why a team would look at this.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_03]: But I wonder, I will say, just to add, like the Niners, heck, we'll have the hardest path to the Super Bowl.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, more than likely.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: For sure.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_03]: So like, I think that alone makes you feel like, oh, like, like, like,
- 6:38[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, Vegas has been very run before, but I didn't know.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: But, yeah, I mean, just like, you understand it on some level, and, you know, but that's why they play the games.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be very interesting to see, like if they go into Seattle and kind of take care of business, they can see Seattle, and then you're like, oh, okay, well, interesting.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: And then it's one of two teams that they've faced before.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: on on the other end of that will be we'll be very interesting to for sure but um couple of things oh sorry anything else did you want to add oh nothing much just okay it's exciting I'm excited you all are here to listen to us talk about it and like it's gonna be fun I can't wait I'm hyped up
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, speaking of hyped up, um, we got so close.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, I got so close.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, man.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, I don't know.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think you know what I would have done.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_03]: If the, if the, if what's it called, I open up, I turn on the TV and I see 54 there.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my gosh.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, man.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: So, early in the week, 49ers announced that they were opening up Fred Warner's practice window.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that was terribly surprising, because even if the goal of the NFC championship game, which is kind of the stated goal at this particular point, was true, like they had to give him...
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: Several days of practice before that like you couldn't just be like all right We won the division around we're gonna play in the NFC championship game right fried get out there You got two days practice hope it works out kind of thing like you needed to give him some some some run out there Get he's got to get his legs back underneath him literally and you know get the conditioning back up and all those kind of stuff Not like I think he let himself go during this
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: This period And I'm sure he'll be as up to speed as quickly as possible and then there was the the height videos like the like he's looking really good He's looking normal.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: I was telling everybody in the 90 noise slack.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: I was like if that had happened to me You would have had it like just like I would have never walked again like I just been like, you know what walking not for me But he's Several months later like out there running and ready to go and
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: And it looked and he was telling people, you know, I, I'm, I'm ready, like, I'm, you know, I just need the doctors to okay, Adam Schepter was like, oh, maybe he's maybe he's going to be ready to go for Saturday, even though the beat writers were all like, and probably pump the breaks on it turns out that the beat writers were correct.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: And then I understood not.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: They're not elevate him to non-fake him off of IR for Saturday's game, Fred Warner will have to wait one more week, but I will say it is nice to see that he was out there, that he looked pretty normal, looked himself, he was pumped up, he was excited, and he got to wonder if there's like a some psychological edge to him being out there and
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: that you know the cliche like go win it for for this guy who can't be out there with us and give him the chance to come back.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_03]: I hope so.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_03]: I mean I don't know.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_03]: It's always a little tough when you get to stuff like that because part of me is like it's the NFC division around like what more what more do you need but I also agree that um like it's got to be a bit of
- 10:06[SPEAKER_03]: If you can make it through this week, right, not only do you get to play again, but your emotional leader is going to be on the field, which I think is going to be true, like given the way things are progressing.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_03]: If they're at the energy championship game, where there's probably going to be on the field, burning any setbacks.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't know, hopefully that gets you like that kick in the pants that they need.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, I'm not.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know what the chance of getting eliminated is what you mean.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's exactly right, but um, you know, yeah, yeah, all right, it's exciting.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_03]: And I think, you know, and we'll talk about this right with the way that like, Kendrickson, while it'll play it, there's the live back of room looked competent, which is great.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_03]: And like, people are getting back from injury, but Warner is just,
- 11:01[SPEAKER_03]: He's on a different level like he truly changes this defense in a way that only Nick boasts a kind of does and even then like in my opinion, not really like I think Werner's truly one of one.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but the way he makes the four nanners work on defense and that's going to be that's huge right like that takes the ceiling of this team up.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what like a bajillion percent.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what the.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: I know what the number is.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_03]: It matters.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_03]: It matters a lot.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_03]: If you can get back on the field.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think that it's not overstating it to say that.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: We look at this defense, and I'm gonna say that specifically.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: We look at this defense is currently constructive and constructed and go, that's not really, that's not championship defense.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: But it's very weird how you just put 54 in the middle of the field and you're like, oh, okay, like is it like a game-changing defense?
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: Still not because the defensive line is still a mess, but I think you can start to squint and go,
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: this like a little like that the margin for air opens up a little bit if you got him on the field and it just makes it like okay well now it's the same it's the same thing it's still like Kenny offense else or the other defense but now you feel a little bit more confident that maybe they can do that and the defense might be able to hold its own a little bit more if he's back out there this is not a
- 12:30[SPEAKER_03]: So we have to talk about the implication episode, so not going to get, so I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I
- 12:48[SPEAKER_03]: like day alone like erase the most important part of the field for offenses and that's it's game changing it like limits so many easy yards which in turn helps your defensive line like it has more time to get home because you know those like in breaking routes are no longer available it's it's like
- 13:10[SPEAKER_03]: It's transformational, what he can do.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_03]: And I mean, if the Niners need an excellent sense, that's a great incentive right there.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_03]: That will be great.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: I believe Matt Barrow's weeks ago was talking about the likelihood of his return.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, the wild card round was a definite no.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: The early gave it percentages.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: It was like really very unlikely in the wild card round significantly more likely but still unlikely in the divisional rounds.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was at like in the 10% for the end of CGA
- 13:49[SPEAKER_03]: I think we've I think we've gotten down to the NFC championship game is just trying to stop them like if they make it that far like Go at your peril like try to keep mom to field and see what happens Yeah, oh yeah, and I mean what opposed to be I like I want them to win for a billion reason for nothing more And I think it would be great to see 54 on the field that would be so exciting
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: 100%.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: Um, in other news, not related to players, but this is related to the 49ers coaching staff.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: Um, in front office people actually who've been getting a lot of attention as there's been.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, actually, it's just just a whole OEM.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: And really talk about this, but just like,
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: There is a ton of jobs open in the NFL right now, both through things that you're not surprised about.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, the giants moved on from Brian Dable way early in the season, Titans had an opening way early in the season, but then expected moves like Mc the Daniels out in Miami and what else am I missing?
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, there's a lot of those expected jobs, like Pete Carroll and Vegas, like the missing, like teams that were bad who were expected to fire their coaches.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: and then two kind of unexpected moves, which was John Harba being, I think fired from, I think it's pretty, pretty well established, he was fired by the Ravens, which is fine, like what it do to get to do, I guess, 19 years, he was there.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: And then the subsequent move, which was not subsequent, but a move from my timeline and who was also there for, I think the same amount of time,
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: Baltimore, he resigned.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_01]: This is a completely different situation.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: He decided he was ready to step down, take a break.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: He's not going to be in the midst of this coaching cycle.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_01]: It definitely seems like he's out of the game, at least for a little while, for Pittsburgh.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: a team that has only had three head coaches in its entire existence, which is wild.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: Niners had that many in three, it's like three seasons before a cow chain hadn't got here, so that's kind of hilarious.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: But lots of interesting jobs, and so that means that there are coaches, there's also some GM openings around the league in Atlanta, and that's the one that the major one
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: that that that might involve Niners front office folks, but obviously Robert Salah is the big name to that's that's kind of been swirling around.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: Clay Kubiak the 49ers offensive coordinator has also gotten some some interest he is had will interview I think for the Steelers position for Salah it is he's getting a lot more traction mostly because you know he's done it before and so teams are paying a little bit more attention so he interviewed
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: uh last week it looks like uh unlikely that that seems to be the move that he'll end up making and then it was he with the he did interview with the ravens um he has been requested to interview with the falcons and the titans and now the dolphins have been added to that list as well so that is five total uh interviews or interview requests that the
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: Five.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: I can't count guys.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's okay.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a lot basically is what I'm saying like more or less gotten an interview Request from most of the jobs.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like the giants are going with to go into higher higher harbour So it was never going to the giants.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: See we'll not go back to New York.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: That would be a terrible decision But other than that, he's been pretty much interviewed for all the positions that are open Thoughts on that and really cubiac and the whole thing So cubiac I think is
- 17:39[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's more likely that Kubex gonna be gone in Salah.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's less likely that Kubex gonna be a head coach than Salah a little bit.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_03]: Now, let me explain.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_03]: It's actually not the complicated.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_03]: I think like one of the things about being an offensive coordinator for Kyle Shanahan is that you don't call place, right?
- 17:57[SPEAKER_03]: And that's mostly necessary.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_03]: I do one exception, obviously being Mike McDonald getting that position in Miami.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_03]: Like, could be interviewing with the Steelers, I believe it is.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_03]: Like, a lot of that is also, they might be interested in the scheme, and they're like, okay, this guy might be like, a good guy wouldn't be higher at head coach to circle back for offensive coordinators.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_03]: So I think you guys almost certainly gonna be gone.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_03]: That's like the next step in his career.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_03]: His brother did a very similar thing.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_03]: And it's now the offensive coordinator for the C-Hox, so I'm about that.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_03]: I've been saw up.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: And the other thing you could say is, if solid gets a job, there's also the possibility that he takes feedback with him.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_03]: Definitely.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_03]: I think the one thing that is a little, it's like, it's hard to say exactly, but I think that on,
- 18:53[SPEAKER_03]: with Sala, is that there are a couple like jobs here that are like genuinely amazing jobs.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_03]: Like the Ravens and like the Steelers, those are like one of one NFL jobs, right?
- 19:04[SPEAKER_03]: Like you take those jobs.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_03]: Other than that, it's a little more like all over the place but the other problem problem, we're like, thing is that what's gonna be available next year, right?
- 19:16[SPEAKER_03]: It's like a better thing available, a team better set up, I don't know.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, for the 49ers, selfishly you wanted to stay both because, like, he's a great defense coordinator and stabilizes the steam, but also because one more year, and then you get the, like, the other copy.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, exactly.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_03]: That would be nice.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, team dates.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_03]: Like, that was actually a pretty good pipeline of draft capital.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_03]: I think a Baltimore Pittsburgh calls in, like, by, yeah, he's gone.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_03]: He's gone.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_03]: Other than that,
- 19:52[SPEAKER_03]: We'll see.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_03]: And I've also seen like, I don't know, some like discourse online about like saw out like the fact that he's interviewing and like how this is like apparently a big deal or something and I don't know, like okay people need to calm down.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think that's a problem.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, yeah, I don't think that would look good as an interview.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_01]: In an interview situation like, oh, I'm ignoring my current job in order to take to talk to you about yours, like probably not a good look.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: First of all.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_03]: I think so.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: I totally agree with you.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like his situation in in New York with the jets was so bad.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_01]: And that organization was so dysfunctional like.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's the best coach they've had in like a decade basically saying a lot no disrespect to him, but it was a rough it was a rough go and and some of that is just the organization is horrible and so you look at like, is he going to, is he going to go to Miami or is he going to go to Arizona where the stability of the organizations is very much in question.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: The other problem.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: during his tenure with the jets was just he just never found a quarterback and they thought they did and then Aaron Rodgers got hurt and then when he came back he would only last a couple of games into that season when Rodgers came back is the think that's right.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: Um uh and it's just like it never worked out for him and so to go to
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: to Arizona where Calamari's situation is in question or go to Miami where to a tag of the tag of Iowa's situation is in question.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_01]: To go to Atlanta where they have Michael Tenix and Kurt Cousins is on the way out, probably.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_01]: But Tenix is not probably the answer there.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: Titans at least have a quarterback that they probably feel pretty confident about.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: But like you said, I would say
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: don't come open very frequently, it's been almost two decades since either of those jobs have been available.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: So if one of those teams is like, hey, we want you, then I think you kind of, like, you can't, you couldn't be like, hey, Robert, you got to stay here.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: On the other hand, and this is completely apropos of nothing, I think both those teams need to hire an offensive guy.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think, definitely.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: Baltimore 100% does, like it needs to be somebody that Lamar Jackson is like, this is my guy, like I'm with him.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: because it seemed like part of the reason that Harbell was gone is because he started to kind of like not feel him anymore.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think, I mean, this is part of the problem problem, I don't know.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_03]: This is part of the thing is that with defensive coaches, you have to have light.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_03]: Like a really good defense of scheme basically to justify it because like offensive skin consistency is so important right like I mean we're seeing this in life Philly right with so much discussion about like Nick Serriani there out fire offensive coordinator and so much is that like Serriani scheme itself doesn't seem to like be beneficial so people are like well what does he do and that obviously coaches do more than
- 23:00[SPEAKER_03]: just like call plays right most of them don't call plays but um it like you sort of like
- 23:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think solidize a leg down on those positions for the extra, I don't know, Pittsburgh is weird.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_03]: Who knows what they're going to do.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, talk about quarterback situations.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_03]: So, I mean, Pittsburgh is appealing because, like, so obviously, right, like my comment, great coach 10 wins once it would be like, they had that machine running.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_03]: That defense is really good and they don't fire coaches.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they just like you just you have that job security without even like I don't know performing.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_03]: You know like you don't really have to be fine.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's he's stuck around them the not terrible line and managed to keep them in and around the playoff on most of the time that he was there so.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_03]: Like, it's not going to be the owner comes back from an ambassador ship and it's like, oh, actually, I don't know if this is working.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_03]: Even though like the team is one in one, one in two or whatever, like that's not how Pittsburgh does things and because of that, I think like that's that might be super appealing, but like you said,
- 24:10[SPEAKER_03]: There's like, I think those are the two jobs solow would for sure take.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_03]: It's unclear if those are the jobs that solow will be offered.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: Right, the Ravens one so far is the only one we know he has been connected to.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: Which, again, that would be a good opportunity, like they've only, I think they've only had what two or three coaches since they've been now, granted it's a much smaller period of time than the Steelers have been around, but they've only had,
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: one or two maybe two or three guys since they kind of came back from wherever they from when they were at the expansion team.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, whatever.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, whatever that's sex situation ones.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, all right.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think that's pretty much everything that we have.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: George Kittle, I think believe I had successful surgery on his Achilles.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so here's hoping that he will be ready to go for, um, at some point next to her gosh.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: So sad.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of which, let's talk briefly about the, um, injury report related to Saturday's game.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: We have two players that we know that are not going to play.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, we've mentioned Fred Warner with the ankle injury.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: Jair Brown has been, um,
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: has also been labeled as out for the game, which means Minsky's single who played really well.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: On Sunday, against the Eagles, we'll be stepping into that safety role, the very interesting to see how Sala
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: Works those safety's only got really three of them left and in terms of guys that are going to play on the field between Seagull and Jayson Pinnock and Mountain Staffa Also in the mix For injuries a questionable jaked cowing all the he would have to be elevated from
- 25:56[SPEAKER_01]: uh... in your preserve look good for it also uh... questionable with a quadricep injury having him back out there as like a special team's option would be fantastic uh... you to a gross motto is is good to go which is excellent news uh... little concern there uh... in that
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: uh... he's been limited all week i think they didn't i think very limited stuff uh... rickip here saw also with that knee injury he's questionable but i don't know he seems to be trapped in a lot better shape tracking towards playing then he was uh... last weekend uh... chant Williams has no injury designation neither to ski on white um... so that's also good news and the dewinters and the only other uh...
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: a guy with an injury designation he's questionable, also an ankle, lots of ankles on this team, ankles and knees, ankles and knees and hamstrings, which you're not, not what you want to see, but, yeah, I mean, that sounds okay.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's about as good as it's going to get, yeah, given all of the guys who can't be play.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_03]: I agree, I think I'm...
- 26:58[SPEAKER_03]: So the couple like names that really pop up, one is the linebackers, I think we mentioned this and I mean, it's been general talk about the linebacking play.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_03]: It looked probably the most good.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_03]: It's looked since like, for like a while, which is almost concerning then, because it's like a, like, D-winter's the starter over like, Garrett Wallo.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_03]: But,
- 27:23[SPEAKER_03]: Right, like, how's that going to work?
- 27:24[SPEAKER_03]: How's that going to work?
- 27:25[SPEAKER_03]: How's that going to work?
- 27:26[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like, you get a little bit worried of like, all right, how's this going to play out?
- 27:29[SPEAKER_03]: Right, like, the defense played well.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_03]: You kind of, how much risk are you willing to take?
- 27:34[SPEAKER_03]: I personally think like, Winters will play Gifford.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_03]: Really happy, special teams, please.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's on the season.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no deep peace.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_03]: I like, who'd Gifford is a, like, a pro-bola, right?
- 27:48[SPEAKER_03]: Special teams player really important to this team.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_03]: a coverage liability in a way that like it's going to be very, very worrisome for this game.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_03]: Other than that, like, you know, Pierce all is the big one.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_03]: I think he gives you something on offense that you just didn't have against Seattle last week.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_03]: Now, you're missing a really a bigger piece.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_03]: So far, so you don't have George Kettle.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_03]: That's not good, but a beats having not having both.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_03]: I think with Pierce all.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_03]: There's a bit of like, all right, like how much is he actually going to be running?
- 28:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, there's 100% 50% I don't know, but like the threat is important.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_03]: And beyond that, well, it's, it's looking fine.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_03]: Jai or Brown hurts just because, you know, they, um, they're running out of the same.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they're running out of safety's.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_03]: He's played well on special teams too.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_03]: So it's, it says good, it's going to get, I suppose.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_03]: So we'll have to see how they, how they make do.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, indeed.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: For Seattle, three players have been listed as out that is Titan, Elijah, Arroyo, offensive tackle Josh Jones, and Lionbacker Chaz Serrat.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: Charles Cross, who was there offensive tackle, we missed the last matchup is good to go for the game.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: Leave Ernest Jones, or sorry, Josh Jones was the guy who replaced him.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: Is that, is that right?
- 29:13[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, maybe.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: So those are interesting names.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's any major deal.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Sirot being out there, Arroyo's not there.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: They're main tight-end, so I don't think those are major issues.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: Very interesting.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: He practiced all week, and then they just designated him as out, so I'm not sure what's going on there.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: But the interesting one, and this is a very late breaking situation, because he had no injury designation on Tuesday or Wednesday, and then all of a sudden on Thursday, popped up as a limited, and that is Sam Donald.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_01]: with an oblique.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: He is questionable for the game.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: I have no doubt he will go out there and try to play, but the oblique, especially for a quarterback, just like with a hitter in baseball, that ideal.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_03]: Not ideal.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think it's particularly relevant.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_03]: Like,
- 30:05[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's one of those.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_03]: He's not going to miss this game.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, no, no, no, no, it's kind of a mood point.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_03]: And like, it's the Niners had a functioning past rush.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_03]: I would be like, Oh, man, this is a really big deal.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_03]: His mobility might be limited.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_03]: You have a chance to really take advantage.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_03]: But like, like, Philip Revers was standing in there just fine.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_03]: I think we're not at that level.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_03]: Unfortunately for the details.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_03]: However, like, it's worth
- 30:36[SPEAKER_03]: Donald, not being 100% even marginally, that's like, that is, that is good news for the 49ers.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, you know, like on this podcast, we're big fans of everyone being healthy.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_03]: But if that, in the reality that that's not true, that life, you know, the nineers are better off with Sam Darnold, not being at 100%.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it'll be interesting to see if that becomes an issue, but I really don't.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_03]: The other name you mentioned,
- 31:06[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_03]: Just like really say that it doesn't matter about, but just mentioned with Charles Cross is that again, like 49ers had a like a functioning password.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_03]: I should be like, wow, this is like a really big deal that like, you know, this on left tackles back, but I really don't, I don't know, like what matters for Seattle because I think so much of this is dependent on line.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_03]: the 49ers as a team, right?
- 31:35[SPEAKER_03]: Like, how are they gonna function?
- 31:37[SPEAKER_03]: Are they gonna be able to play it like a decent standard?
- 31:40[SPEAKER_03]: And it's really independent of who's on the field for Seattle.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's all fair.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I mean, it certainly will be interesting to watch like whether or not this has any impact on Donald's ability to like throw the football.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I don't, I mean, like the,
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: There's past rest against Seattle, and we gave teen wasn't terrible, like they actually were able to kind of like mess with him a little bit and cause some problems, but obviously having Charles Cross back there will help with some of that.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see whether or not they're able to get anything more out of it.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I don't know.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: The interesting, so this is popped in my head, did that, um, the guy that we talked about a couple like the other day, the Texans guy,
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: Anything happened with him, Droll, Taylor, I believe is not.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I don't know.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't seen anybody pick him up.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: So obviously, it's probably too late at this point.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: I suppose they could still make the move before the game, but I haven't seen him get picked up by anybody else.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_01]: So very interesting.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: There, something to watch out for as you're listening to this.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, that's neither here nor there.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he went to New England.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_03]: Man, I don't understand this team sometimes, just come to it.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, I'm getting into it.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_03]: Not getting into it, not getting into it.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_01]: Breaking news, we just found out a thing we didn't know.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: And now we're going to move on.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: All right.

- 35:09[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks for watching.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: All right, well done, as always.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I'll just tell us why you think the 49ers can win this game.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_03]: Am I able to just say the things that I said?
- 35:22[SPEAKER_03]: To put two weeks ago, and then be like, well, they didn't do it last time.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_03]: But maybe this time, you know, what?
- 35:30[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, really like the, the funny thing of it out this situation, right?
- 35:35[SPEAKER_03]: Is that we, these teams are,
- 35:37[SPEAKER_03]: Well, 49ers are fundamentally different than last time, because they don't have kiddo on how they have Trent in Austin, Spely Ricky and Eric Kendrick's playing well.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_03]: But like, this is really the same issue, right?
- 35:53[SPEAKER_03]: It's the 49ers' defense.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_03]: If they played the way they played and we gateened, did enough to win that game.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_03]: It wasn't pretty, it was ugly.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they did play really well.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_03]: But they allow only 13 points.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_03]: That's enough to win.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_03]: That needs to be enough to win a game against Seattle.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_03]: It's really the offense.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_03]: The 49ers' offense has to be able to line pick things up.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_03]: And I think, for the reasons we mentioned, Seattle's defense is very, very good.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_03]: They're very good on the line.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_03]: They're good on the line back.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_03]: They're good at the secondary.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_03]: The thing that I think you saw the 49ers sort of be able to do in week 18 that hopefully they can capitalize a little more.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_03]: Is that they were, if they got into a rhythm and got into a groove on offense, they were able to sort of get those chunk plays, you know, five, like big plays, but also five to six yards, and I think the Niners were, I think the best team in the league on their downs, Seattle's the best defense in the league, the Niners are not too long on their downs, their downs and turnovers killed them in week 18, but I don't know if that was as much like I thought the Niners often just didn't execute well, and I think having your like,
- 37:05[SPEAKER_03]: all world left tackle there to anchor everything is like a big deal like that will give you more space, more air, more for a period to operate.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_03]: I think we saw encouraging signs for the last week from the Marcus Robinson and the other receivers.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_03]: And really, I think that's going to be what matters is those new pieces that didn't really play a role in week 18, they need to like write the wrongs from week 18 and that's really going to be the 40 matters getting a chance to execute on third down so taking care of the ball and I think.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the Seattle Loss was demoralizing because it felt like the Niners couldn't take care of business against a good defense.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_03]: But they were scored against, in my opinion, a better defense in the Eagles.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_03]: I think, especially at some key positions, the Eagles probably have to see hearts beat in positions that stress the 49ers.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_03]: And I think because of that,
- 38:02[SPEAKER_03]: There's more confidence that this team can like figure out a way on offense against Seattle's defense and then of the 49ers defense played like did a week a team or even a little better because I think, you know, they're playing better than they did done.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_03]: You have like, that's the recipe for the upset.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, it's all, it's gonna come down to executing on offense.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_03]: And I think last week was a good sign that even against a really strong defense, they're able to generate those chunk plays, those big plays, those necessary plays to move the sticks.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, pretty much, got everything that I was gonna say.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think,
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: the defense kind of shot itself and the or the offense kind of shot itself in the foot too many times against Seattle and the 18 and the one drive where they did sustain the sustain things that ended up with an interception you know on the three yard line because the ball got tipped and Christian McCaffrey misjudged it and it went through his arms and it's like like what are the odds of that happening again I mean those are three concurrent things that have to happen in succession with one another and exact the right and the exact
- 39:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, I mean, that Seattle's not capable of creating chaos and all that kind of stuff, but they, like, in the nine, it's just, like, you said, just need to just need to play better on offense.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, as you noted, we saw the difference between week 18 where they didn't have Trent Williams and week, and the wild card game where they did have Trent Williams and, like, what a difference that made.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_01]: And even against a, you know, at least equally good Eagles defense, they were able to get the job done because Trent was out there and, like,
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: looked just completely out of sync.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: I can't see at all.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_01]: I just unsure what he was going to do.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_01]: And he wasn't perfect against Philly as we talked about with the two interceptions.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_01]: But he trusted his guy as enough to get the job done.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then having Ricky Pierce all back out.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully I will we'll help kind of free them free them stuff up and you'll miss Georgia kiddo especially because Like the area of Defense that Seattle is weakest in I think we talked about this in the previous game like they're not great against titans Which just means Jake Togger's take Jake Togger's it's gonna have a good game I'm just gonna say you know Jake Togger's discord game winner very true
- 40:22[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so he's got it in him.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_01]: We've seen, like, good, we, I mean, again, he's not George Kettle, but we've seen good play from him, uh, throughout the season when he's been called upon.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: And that's, that's what they need.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he doesn't have to be Kettle.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_01]: He just has to be enough of a threat to where they're like, oh, let's pay attention to him.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then he opens it up for.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_01]: for Jennings and for Demarch Stravinson, and hopefully for Recapiris all, and obviously Christian McAfrey was a name we have not mentioned once yet, mostly because they were able to kind of stabilize him in the last game.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_01]: And really both the games can see at least not been great, and so that's something to watch out for as well.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: And then as you noted, the defense with Eric Kendrick's and with Garrett Wallow, which is such a weird statement to say,
- 41:03[SPEAKER_01]: Um, just seemed a little more sure of itself last week, then it did with, uh, Taden Bethoon in week 18, where it just kind of felt like still very unsettled.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: And, um, that's no knock on Bethoon, but just like some guys, like Eric Hendrix is a long time veteran in this league, and he just knows what he's doing.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I think you could sense the, the calm relative calm.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_01]: of the defense, especially in the line back in core.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: And again, he's not Fred Warner, but the owner and get Fred Warner back as if he continues to die level play.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I think if they can do enough, then that's good.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing I'm note, and this is neither here nor there, or anything, it's just this Brockford E. Coljane hand combination, never lost in the division round, in the division round.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_01]: So
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: The other reason the wildguard or the NFC JAPI game, but mostly the NFC JAPI game of the Super Bowl.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_01]: So that's good news.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_01]: So this is a place that they've been comfortable.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's also been really good in Seattle as a starter, I think Brock is also 4-0 there.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: So he's not.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: I know, weird.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_01]: If you'd said that five years ago, like the 40000s have a quarterback who is never lost in Seattle, you'd be like, huh?
- 42:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_01]: You've been like, they won a game?
- 42:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's the way in Seattle at the CX where they play in the Mariners football, no, okay cool Yeah, so I think all that kind of pairs up like this is not going to be an easy thing for them to do, but I think they have the elements to do it.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_01]: It just like has to be just better than two weeks ago Yeah, I mean, I think that's exactly right.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_03]: And I think
- 42:51[SPEAKER_03]: for for this team.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and the other thing we forgot we forgot to mention, we said this two weeks ago.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_03]: Sam Darnold, the Sam Darnold of it all.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's that Jake Mooney.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you know, the special teams does make a difference.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_03]: Well, so not to theoretically.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_03]: Negative Nancy's segue this.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_03]: Go for it.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_03]: A negative Nelly, I don't know, whatever.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_03]: Whatever the phrase is, sorry to any Nancy's listening
- 43:22[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, well, so A, they lost two weeks ago at home.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, with equally as like almost as much on the line in a way those.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_03]: deeply unconvincing that they could be like a real threat against Seattle.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_03]: It was a close game, but it did feel like a close game.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_03]: Like the miners had thoroughly outplayed.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_03]: So there's that.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_03]: I think beyond that, like Seattle's defense is really good for all the reasons that we've mentioned two weeks ago.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_03]: But now they're rested.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be super hard.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_03]: The one thing I'm going to add is, you know, I'll try to make this new and not just, well, I said two weeks ago this and
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's just do weeks ago.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_03]: So I think it's like, I'll give them trust a trust in which is a crazy thing to say that they can like correct it.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_03]: Niner special teams was not great against the Eagles and I think that's going to that matters a lot because
- 44:31[SPEAKER_03]: You need those incremental edges and special teams is a place you get that and against fillies, special teams did not give them an incremental edge, special teams hurt them, stuff seems hurt them a lot, like also the way fillies kicking game not great, but like the 49ers lost a fuel position game Decisively against Philadelphia and you can't do that against Seattle, so Basically take all the reasons why they're not this game is not happening at Santa Clara.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_03]: add in special teams and there it goes.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_03]: It's pretty exciting when you put it that way.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Bobby cock, no, I'm sorry.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm kidding.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, I mean, I literally didn't change anything from my notes from two weeks ago of the things that I wanted to say, like all the things we said about their defense in terms of what it's good at has not changed.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and as you said,
- 45:28[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so they don't have any further injuries and they, in fact, got a little healthier.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: Nine is kind of with the other action in that.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: Although, it's kind of a weird like addition and subtraction sort of thing going because obviously Trent Williams and Ricky Parasel being back would be a plus, but not having charge kiddoism negative.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know how that balance is out in the long run, but um, if that's like a, if that ends up being roughly equal or balances in one way or the other, I don't know.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, they have to play it really like the reason for concern is that they come out and the same thing happens as happened two weeks ago that's it because because it happened like normally you would kind of like if they were playing
- 46:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, what's a team they lost to like in early in the year.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like they're like Jacksonville, Jacksonville again or Houston or something like that, you'd be like, let's throw that out.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_01]: That game doesn't matter, it was, yeah, I mean, it's been long enough to go that the Rams are different team and like some, like, those other teams, and if they win this game in Chicago wins on Saturday on Sunday, we're going to have the same conversation because those two games are close enough.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_01]: In proximity that we can be like that's the team that these are teams are very similar to what they were when they played But if we were talking about a different a different team the the Texans or Jacksonville or the Rams like that they played ten weeks ago The teams have changed enough.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's different.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously Mac Jones is the quarterback and some of those games like You're changes things, but it's kind of hard to separate Week 18 from this division around because it was just two weeks ago
- 47:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, literally to the hour.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_01]: It was due, Esca.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, there's very little that is like new.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_03]: And I think we've honestly, I think we've highlighted basically the only differences that have popped up because of like from two weeks, which is that some guys are gonna meet back, some guys are not gonna be back.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_03]: And,
- 47:33[SPEAKER_03]: You know, special teams looks a little worse.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_03]: Lineback and clay looks a little better.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_03]: But that's about it.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that is honestly about it.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_03]: And it's just like, well, they, so the good news for the 49ers is, I don't think that offense can look much worse than it did against Seattle.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it never has.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_03]: It looks exactly right.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_03]: So like, you, the, the positive view of that is that like, a lot of that is execution for the numbers, so you're going to look much better.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_03]: You can see I know this is going to be like, and they kept it that close.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_03]: The flip side is that no, that's just the way Seattle plays the 49ers on offense.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's not going to look much better.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_03]: And they're going to lose.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, it's the form.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_03]: And we hope it's the former.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_03]: It would suck if it's the latter.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_03]: But frankly, I mean, I think that's really all you have right now.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's the easy.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think on the
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: If you look at, if you want to play the, what are the possible ways this game goes?
- 48:33[SPEAKER_01]: There's a 49ers want a close game.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_01]: There's a Seattle wins a close game.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_01]: And then the really only other outcome.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: And again, I don't want to say this, but really the only likely outcome is the 49ers get blown out.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, the other, the fourth scenario is probably not in play here.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_01]: Which is which is the 49ers blow Seattle out.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if that happens I will literally beat my jaw will be on the floor.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_01]: We will not be able to record a recap episode because I will not be able to speak because I'll go I'll go I'll go I'll go to work next week to be like hair out.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: I would be like
- 49:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's me not talking to anybody because my I will not be able to not be in shock like absolutely like shock.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's not play.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_01]: I just got to say like let's just move.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_01]: Let's remove that from what I love it to happen as you said.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_01]: We love them to win by 50 points.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's probably not going to happen.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think this Seattle defenses like too good and I think we saw.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what happened last week in Philly is exactly what needs to happen?
- 49:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they need to do that again.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_01]: If they do that again, I feel pretty good about the fact that they can win this game.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, so like, I agree.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_03]: I think the thing that gives you hope, but also concerned, is that, doesn't feel like the nanners have put together like, in a plus offensive performance.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_03]: Like, defense aside, right?
- 50:02[SPEAKER_03]: Like, pure 49ers execution.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_03]: I think you can feel like, oh, like Dave missed a little bit right like they haven't been as busy as they could be so you take that and you know we just talked about this a lot when the team was like in 2023 and the team was writing rough shot over the NFL so like they're um they're a.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_03]: beats anyone.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_03]: There'd be, you know, it's beating most teams, but you want to get that you want it to be firing on all cylinders.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's sort of the positive is that like there's a level that they haven't reached in the last two weeks on offense.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_03]: That they could, right?
- 50:38[SPEAKER_03]: And that changes everything.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_03]: I think the flip side obviously is that, you know, you can't bank on the night there's playing their A game.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_03]: on offense, right?
- 50:49[SPEAKER_03]: Like you got to expect things are going to go both ways.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_03]: And then it's you just lose all, they just have no margin of error.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_03]: That like last time they played Seattle in the playoffs was 2021, I think.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_03]: We're like, I don't know.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_03]: Some some time ago, they had so much margin for it.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_01]: It was it was Brock's first playoff game, right?
- 51:06[SPEAKER_01]: It was the 20.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, was it 23?
- 51:09[UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_03]: Well, yeah, two years ago, the Seattle did had no business being on the same field of the San Francisco and the Niners.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_01]: And it was still a clasky.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_03]: But like, that was the thing.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_03]: The Niners did not play well that game.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_03]: But they still won because they, um, because they had so much march for air.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_03]: The Niners have to play like their best game of the season in order to win.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_03]: They'll also have to play, you know, their best game of the season next week, if they win this, like, they are not so good that they can like stumble and like be fine unless the caveat being if the other team also like starts messing up, but you can't bank on that.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_03]: So I think, you know, you either hope that Seattle is not ready for primetime.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_03]: That'll be great.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_03]: I would be a fan.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_03]: There's reason to think that might be true, but yeah, for sure.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know if it's going to be like a cross-the-board, but I think there are reasons to believe that certain, like we have not seen Sam Darnold play particularly well at this particular point in the season.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like in the opportunities that he's gotten, it's not been good for him.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's true, and I think, you know, it's either that like Seattle's going to go home tomorrow and think to themselves, wow, we had this game.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what could have happened or the Niners need to be perfect and outside of that or some like.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_03]: There's only a very few ways on that like spectrum of like possibilities, the Niners are going to win.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't know.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_03]: We'll see.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_03]: It's it's a fascinating game because division games are weird.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot of humiliating.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_03]: They played so close together.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_03]: But on the flip side, you're really like
- 53:09[SPEAKER_03]: Well, this is going to be a tough test, which I hate saying I hit this so much.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_03]: I need people to understand.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not enjoying the fact that like I'm saying like, wow, I'm not really sure how the numbers are going to do against like Seattle.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, terrible, terrible.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_01]: Lovely.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's not fun.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_01]: But.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, reality.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's the worst.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: I just kept thinking, like you're talking about, all these reasons about what they're not this, and they're not that, and they're not like this.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, then why does it feel like this is going to be in it right now?
- 53:41[SPEAKER_01]: I will Evan flow throughout the next 24 hours, roughly, or I guess, like 20, you know, 30, something hours before the game is over.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'll Evan flow between this team is the worst team that's ever played, and this team is winning the Super Bowl several hundred times.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_03]: It could be both.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: It could be both.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_01]: That was literally me in the first after the first draft, like leading up to the fillet game.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, yeah, they're going to get busted up.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_01]: This is going to be awful.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_01]: And then they scored in the first draft and I was like, nope, they went into the pool.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_01]: Those are the two options here, oxas, it's either they're gonna lose or they're gonna, or they're in the whole thing.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's how I feel.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_03]: Honestly, like taking a step back, I think that's true.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I don't know why, but like, I feel it in my bones.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_03]: My bones have been very wrong.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_03]: Anyone who's listening to my bones don't, if my bones are right, would be perfect.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_03]: two to three Super Bowls, but I really do think this is in many ways the biggest test for this team in fact because Seattle is such a unique challenge because of their defense and like their familiarity and the fact they're rested, blah, blah, blah, all these things and like people would get healthy for the 49ers as the student progresses.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_03]: But also this is kind of like this feels like the hump, right?
- 55:01[SPEAKER_03]: Like the Eagles were a challenging team, but the Eagles had their own flaws.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_03]: Seattle has their flaws.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_03]: Everyone has their flaws, but like Seattle to me is like, this week is the, okay, if you can get past this week, then like you really have a shot at this, right?
- 55:19[SPEAKER_03]: Like this isn't like a feel good story.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_03]: This is like,
- 55:22[SPEAKER_03]: This is it.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_03]: This is every game and I don't know why it just feels like that momentum is going to matter a lot so it's a huge game like I think we've adequately expressed but yet somehow failed to capture exactly just how massive this game is because that's just the way it is like I think I think I did it really well.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_00]: They're either going to lose or they're winning the whole thing.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what else to tell you.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's exactly right.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_01]: What an ironic, several old title this would be truly like not the best team in the NFL by any stretch of the imagination at any point really in the season, but there we go.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_01]: Not to get ahead of ourselves anyway.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_01]: All right, knock shots.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do it.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_01]: Are they going to win?
- 56:06[SPEAKER_01]: Are they going to lose?
- 56:06[SPEAKER_01]: Are we going to be sad?
- 56:07[SPEAKER_01]: Are we going to be happy?
- 56:09[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think?
- 56:10[SPEAKER_03]: Well, so I was telling someone earlier today about like the podcast, so I'm not picking against them.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_03]: Like, are you kidding me?
- 56:17[SPEAKER_03]: No way.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's not happening.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you know, we say this every time play.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_03]: I've time comes around like, we try to be objective.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_03]: We try to like critique the team when it's time to critique.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_03]: We try to be realistic.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_03]: But we're fans like we're fans of the team.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_03]: And like, I'm not going to like be here and be like, oh, like,
- 56:38[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to win.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I'm not a higher scoring game than the last time.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm going to, I think I'm adjusting downward greatly.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_03]: I also think it's going to be particularly super close.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to go 21, 29ers win.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_01]: We're right in on the neighborhood.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_01]: I said 23, 20.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_01]: Eddie Peneer.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that would be fun.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_01]: Eddie Pee with the lock-off.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, I went harder on it.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, be it.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_03]: If there's a walk-up field goal to, oh my gosh.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_01]: Hill loses mind too, because that guy, but he's a little bit crazy.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of like it, but he's a little bit crazy.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like when he did that, when his first game and he was like screaming at the cardinals, I was like, oh, okay.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_01]: This guy's built a lot differently than our last kicker.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do it.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do it.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be so nervous.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_01]: I hated all my wife was asking me the other issues.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like do you want to have people over?
- 57:44[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, what?
- 57:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's what I said was it doesn't start till 8 p.m.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_01]: But in the back of my head, I'm thinking, no.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_01]: Never.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the year, you know, when they were the Super Bowl two years ago, I was like, it's she was like, let's throw a Super Bowl party.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I want to do that.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_03]: I had a very similar reaction last week.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_03]: I, my heart was.
- 58:12[SPEAKER_03]: pounding through my chest and people around me were like, are you okay?
- 58:16[SPEAKER_03]: I think someone was like, hey, you're breathing kind of heavy.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, you don't get it right now.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_03]: Like, this is the, this isn't worth my body feels like I'm going through a workout, right?
- 58:24[SPEAKER_03]: No, it's, it's going to be super stressful.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be stressful throughout.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_03]: I think like, it's a 60 minute game.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_03]: Like, it's going to be a 60 minute game in the nine years have to play for all 60.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_03]: I, the Kyle Shayna hand said this against the Eagles.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_03]: And they did that last week.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_03]: I don't want to index too much on beating Philly.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_03]: Like Philly's offense fundamentally was misguided in nature.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, that's the word I was looking for.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_03]: Bye now.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_03]: They beat, in many ways, what I think some people would consider one of the hardest teams for them to have.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the matchups really was really bad.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_03]: And they did it, right?
- 59:01[SPEAKER_03]: Like this team, this team, that's guys.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_03]: I hate saying this.
