- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to SEC Football Addiction. Gators against the Auburn
- 0:04Speaker 1: Tigers this week. Allie Peek with us. We are presented
- 0:06Speaker 1: by PrizePix, where all new users who play a $ 5
- 0:08Speaker 1: lineup and win get $ 150 in lineups instantly if they
- 0:12Speaker 1: use code HMA.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Allie, it's finally here, and we've talked about this a lot.
- 0:16Speaker 1: We actually just got another show talking about it, but
- 0:18Speaker 1: it's so hard to judge Florida and Auburn right now
- 0:21Speaker 1: because Auburn didn't look super impressive in a game against Baylor,
- 0:25Speaker 1: but that was still much better competition than Florida's seen.
- 0:28Speaker 1: And Florida has looked super impressive, but it hasn't played
- 0:30Speaker 1: as tough of competition as Auburn has in week one.
- 0:33Speaker 1: And so evaluating these two teams, thinking about this matchup,
- 0:36Speaker 1: to me, it comes down a lot to talent. And
- 0:38Speaker 1: my opinion is that Florida does have better talent. And
- 0:41Speaker 1: so at the end of the day, is that kind
- 0:43Speaker 1: of what you feel like wins out here?
- 0:44Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, what's the old saying? It's not X's
- 0:47Speaker 3: and O's. It's Jimmy and Joe's. And so I do. I,
- 0:51Speaker 3: you know.
- 0:52Speaker 4: The good on good in this matchup is Florida's offense
- 0:55Speaker 4: and Auburn's defense. I don't know that Florida fans thought
- 0:58Speaker 4: they were going to be saying that going into this.
- 1:01Speaker 4: So I think we would have thought, okay, Florida's defense
- 1:03Speaker 4: has a lot of returning talent. Like that's going to
- 1:05Speaker 4: be our bread and butter and we're going to see
- 1:07Speaker 4: how the offense works.
- 1:08Speaker 3: And I feel like everybody left.
- 1:10Speaker 4: These first two games, kind of feeling the opposite, really
- 1:13Speaker 4: confident in Florida's offense and wanting to see more out
- 1:17Speaker 4: of Florida's defense, not necessarily disappointed in the play that
- 1:20Speaker 4: they've had, but just kind of is ready to see
- 1:23Speaker 4: a little bit more from them. And so I, you know,
- 1:27Speaker 4: I do think Florida has better skill players. I think
- 1:32Speaker 4: that they are stronger in some of the key position groups.
- 1:35Speaker 4: And I do think that probably matters at the end,
- 1:37Speaker 4: but The fact that Auburn is more battle-tested is going
- 1:40Speaker 4: to be important as well. You know, that Baylor game
- 1:42Speaker 4: wasn't clean for either side. But when you can beat
- 1:45Speaker 4: a power-four opponent right at the end there, come up
- 1:48Speaker 4: with a goal-line stand on that two-point conversion, that does
- 1:51Speaker 4: carry weight with me. I think that that is something
- 1:54Speaker 4: that benefits you later on down the season.
- 1:57Speaker 3: So, you know, it's going to be a close game.
- 1:59Speaker 1: I think. What about the trenches? We talk about that
- 2:01Speaker 1: all the time. Like to go, you, you got to
- 2:03Speaker 1: use a cliche. So I'll use one like games are
- 2:04Speaker 1: obviously one there. So in the trenches, again, it's hard
- 2:08Speaker 1: to evaluate with the opponents that Florida has played.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Have you been impressed with.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Florida? Have you, do you solve questions on either side?
- 2:19Speaker 1: Thoughts on how they match up with Auburn trenches? Just
- 2:21Speaker 1: what that battle looked like on Saturday.
- 2:23Speaker 4: So I've gone on a couple Auburn shows this week,
- 2:26Speaker 4: and everybody that I've spoken to has been a little
- 2:28Speaker 4: bit concerned about their offensive tackles. And I think that that's,
- 2:32Speaker 4: you know, an important note. Florida's defensive line has been
- 2:36Speaker 4: something that I feel like a lot of fans have
- 2:39Speaker 4: kind of called out a little bit, been, you know,
- 2:43Speaker 4: maybe wanting to see more out of them. But I
- 2:46Speaker 4: did find it really interesting listening to Summerall's press conference
- 2:50Speaker 4: on Monday because he kind of addressed some of that.
- 2:52Speaker 4: And what he essentially said was he doesn't think that
- 2:54Speaker 4: the trenches are as bad as people have been saying
- 2:58Speaker 4: that they were the last couple of games. You know,
- 3:00Speaker 4: one of the things fans have pointed to is that
- 3:02Speaker 4: Florida has only had to sacks. And, you know, Summerall
- 3:06Speaker 4: essentially said they weren't playing offenses where there was a
- 3:09Speaker 4: lot of opportunities for sacks. You know, he basically said that,
- 3:15Speaker 4: you know, FAU gets the ball out quickly, Campbell calls
- 3:18Speaker 4: a ton of screens, and you're not going to sack
- 3:20Speaker 4: a quarterback on a tunnel screen when the ball's.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Gone in one second.
- 3:24Speaker 4: But he did say he wanted Florida's defensive line to
- 3:28Speaker 4: finish the and close in situations that maybe they didn't
- 3:31Speaker 4: against FAU and Campbell. But I don't hate that Auburn
- 3:36Speaker 4: offensive line, Florida's defensive line matchup. I do also really
- 3:40Speaker 4: like the way Florida has played offensive line as well,
- 3:43Speaker 4: which was my big question mark coming into this season.
- 3:46Speaker 3: They played incredibly cleanly game one.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Game two, Florida did have five penalties in the second
- 3:52Speaker 4: half offensive line, but that was really when they were
- 3:55Speaker 4: shuffling a lot of guys in.
- 3:56Speaker 3: And two of those were personal fouls after the play.
- 3:59Speaker 3: So I would assume those got handled right away because
- 4:01Speaker 3: Summerall did not look pleased at all. But I think
- 4:04Speaker 3: some of that was some of the.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Youth that they were trying to get some reps to
- 4:08Speaker 4: before they head into SEC play. So I do actually
- 4:11Speaker 4: feel pretty comfortable where Florida sits on both sides of the.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Ball in the trenches.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Quarterback play. Philo's looked really good.
- 4:18Speaker 1: How, I mean, you know, this just from being around
- 4:21Speaker 1: it so much and having family and stuff that plays
- 4:24Speaker 1: what you do, you have not concerned. Cause I think
- 4:26Speaker 1: people will take that as an immediate negative, but just
- 4:29Speaker 1: being transparent, like this environment is going to be a
- 4:32Speaker 1: lot different than playing at home in front of still
- 4:34Speaker 1: have crowds that have 90,000 people that love you, right?
- 4:37Speaker 2: Like it's a completely different experience.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Uh, just thoughts around him playing in that kind of
- 4:42Speaker 1: environment for the first time.
- 4:43Speaker 4: You know, one of the things Sumrall said in that
- 4:46Speaker 4: press conference was that what he loves about Aaron Filo
- 4:48Speaker 4: is that he never has to be a hero. He
- 4:50Speaker 4: doesn't have to be the superstar. He just wants to
- 4:52Speaker 4: play quarterback. And I think that's going to be really
- 4:54Speaker 4: important on Saturday night. I think there are going to
- 4:57Speaker 4: be situations where he feels like, ooh, maybe I can
- 5:01Speaker 4: force this in this window right here and make a
- 5:03Speaker 4: big play. Maybe I can make some magic happen. And
- 5:07Speaker 4: my advice would essentially be don't. you know, throw the
- 5:10Speaker 4: ball away, even potentially take the sack if that is
- 5:14Speaker 4: your better bet than potentially throwing a pick.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I think he just needs to be the.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Point guard of this offense, you know, be a game manager,
- 5:25Speaker 4: take care of the football, get it into the hands
- 5:27Speaker 4: of the guys that can make plays.
- 5:29Speaker 3: You don't need to make plays yourself.
- 5:32Speaker 4: He is going to experience something that You know, you
- 5:35Speaker 4: and I talked on a previous show about Georgia and
- 5:37Speaker 4: Georgia Tech. That's probably the only comparable environment he's ever
- 5:40Speaker 4: been in. He wasn't in it as a starter, though.
- 5:42Speaker 4: He was in it sitting on the bench.
- 5:44Speaker 3: So this is going to be a whole new world.
- 5:47Speaker 4: There is not a real way to recreate what Saturday
- 5:50Speaker 4: night is going to feel like at practice. I know
- 5:52Speaker 4: Florida's pumping in sound this week and stuff, and maybe
- 5:55Speaker 4: that helps you be able to work on practice. screaming
- 5:58Speaker 4: at your offensive line a little bit louder, but there
- 5:59Speaker 4: is no way that you can simulate what it is
- 6:02Speaker 4: going to feel like with 90,000 tigers breathing down your
- 6:06Speaker 4: neck when it's dark and it's, you know, and it's
- 6:09Speaker 4: the heat of the moment.
- 6:11Speaker 3: So how he goes is how the game will go.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I think just before we go on, I do want
- 6:17Speaker 1: to remind you guys to subscribe to the channel.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I know you love Allie.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I know you watch this because she was on it.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Not necessarily for me, But make sure you are subscribed
- 6:25Speaker 1: to SEC Football Addiction, at least so you can see
- 6:27Speaker 1: when she's on. Also, if you have already subscribed to
- 6:30Speaker 1: SEC Football Addiction, make sure that you are locked in
- 6:33Speaker 1: with our audio feeds as well. It's SEC Football Addiction
- 6:36Speaker 1: on Apple, Spotify, wherever you get your podcasts.
- 6:38Speaker 2: You can find it there. I'll link it in the
- 6:40Speaker 2: description as well. Make sure you don't miss anything there.
- 6:43Speaker 2: We appreciate you guys for tuning in. And now back
- 6:46Speaker 2: to Allie.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Um, defensively, I'm very intrigued to see what Florida looks
- 6:52Speaker 1: like against this Auburn offense, which again, was not overly
- 6:55Speaker 1: impressive against a Baylor defense that I don't think is great.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Right now. It was also game one of goalish and
- 7:02Speaker 1: USF guys and Brown. And so they've had a couple
- 7:05Speaker 1: of weeks to try and figure that out. But does
- 7:08Speaker 1: this Florida defense, which has been good, but somewhere else
- 7:11Speaker 1: had complaints about which.
- 7:13Speaker 2: You know, I always kind of wonder like, is that
- 7:14Speaker 2: just coach speak? Like he's just trying to motivate his
- 7:16Speaker 2: guys more.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Are there legitimate concerns when you hold a team under 10,
- 7:20Speaker 1: you know, like, so that, that is a big question
- 7:22Speaker 1: for me is can this Auburn offense get anything going
- 7:27Speaker 1: against a very talented Florida defense?
- 7:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:31Speaker 4: I mean, Florida is going to have to stop the run.
- 7:32Speaker 4: That's a, that is, I think the key to stopping
- 7:36Speaker 4: this offense and Byron Brown brings a the ability to
- 7:41Speaker 4: beat you with his feet too. So it's not just
- 7:43Speaker 4: a running back that you're accounting for. It's their running
- 7:45Speaker 4: quarterback that you're having to account for as well. I
- 7:48Speaker 4: think you want to force Byron Brown to.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Beat you with his arm.
- 7:53Speaker 4: And you know, if that happens, I think Florida could
- 7:56Speaker 4: be in a pretty good position, but I'm interested to
- 7:58Speaker 4: see about Florida's defensive discipline because the way that this
- 8:02Speaker 4: offense works and it spreads everybody out, you are going
- 8:05Speaker 4: to have to.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Win those one-on-one matchups.
- 8:07Speaker 4: You are going to have to tackle cleanly, or you're
- 8:11Speaker 4: going to get burned for explosive plays.
- 8:13Speaker 3: So that to me is the key to this game.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Do you, you know, you've talked about this in some
- 8:20Speaker 1: of the history, how much does the just road environment
- 8:24Speaker 1: and not specifically the road environment, like we talked about
- 8:26Speaker 1: with Philo, but it being this specific road environment, you know,
- 8:30Speaker 1: like if you were playing at Oklahoma or Ole Miss,
- 8:32Speaker 1: not that those aren't tough places to play, but they're
- 8:34Speaker 1: maybe not as spooky as Auburn is because you've been
- 8:38Speaker 1: there and you've seen it.
- 8:39Speaker 4: I put Auburn in the same category as Tennessee and LSU.
- 8:42Speaker 4: It's one of the toughest places to play in the country.
- 8:46Speaker 4: I don't think the players are affected by the history
- 8:50Speaker 4: of this rivalry in the same way that the fans are.
- 8:52Speaker 4: You know, me as a fan, I'm like, shoot, the
- 8:54Speaker 4: last couple of times we've gone there, it has not
- 8:56Speaker 4: been pretty But the last time he played there was 2011.
- 8:59Speaker 3: These kids were like, you know, in diapers or barely
- 9:03Speaker 3: out of them or whatever.
- 9:04Speaker 4: It's not that I don't think that's anything that's going
- 9:06Speaker 4: to affect them, but it is going to be without
- 9:10Speaker 4: a doubt.
- 9:10Speaker 3: It might, I'm trying to think of the schedule.
- 9:12Speaker 4: It's probably the loudest place that they play at on
- 9:15Speaker 4: the road this year. You know, Austin, The last time,
- 9:19Speaker 4: the only time I've ever been there, Florida was so
- 9:21Speaker 4: overmatched that it was a cocktail party. There was no
- 9:24Speaker 4: need for sound. So maybe if that turns into a battle,
- 9:27Speaker 4: maybe that stadium is one of the loudest. I personally
- 9:29Speaker 4: haven't experienced it in that capacity. Looking at this schedule,
- 9:35Speaker 4: Florida-Georgia is a neutral site game.
- 9:37Speaker 3: It'll be 50-50. That one's not going to be louder.
- 9:39Speaker 3: You get Oklahoma at home. You get Ole Miss at home.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Missouri's not something that I'm overly concerned about the environment.
- 9:46Speaker 4: I think Kroger Field has the opportunity to be loud
- 9:48Speaker 4: for what.
- 9:49Speaker 3: It is, but this is it.
- 9:51Speaker 4: This is the loudest environment you will travel to this season,
- 9:55Speaker 4: and it happens to be the first game of the
- 9:58Speaker 4: SEC conference play.
- 10:00Speaker 1: What what goes right in this game? And we talked
- 10:04Speaker 1: a lot about like what needs to happen. But like,
- 10:07Speaker 1: you know, I know you always do, which, yes, shout
- 10:09Speaker 1: out to a peak inside Gators football. I'll link this
- 10:12Speaker 1: in the description. You'll do your preview tomorrow night. But
- 10:15Speaker 1: what goes right for Florida? So maybe like one thing
- 10:18Speaker 1: you want to see. I want to see all five.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Florida be able to run the football. I think it
- 10:24Speaker 4: takes a lot of pressure off of Aaron Philo. If
- 10:27Speaker 4: Jaden Bach can be the workhorse and he can, he
- 10:30Speaker 4: can get some real yardage. Um, DJ Durkin, the defensive
- 10:34Speaker 4: coordinator for Auburn, that's his bread and butter is stopping
- 10:37Speaker 4: the run. So if Florida is able to establish a
- 10:40Speaker 4: run game, I think that opens a lot up for
- 10:42Speaker 4: the offense, takes a lot of pressure off of Aaron
- 10:44Speaker 4: Philo and probably means good things.
- 10:46Speaker 3: For the Gators.
- 10:48Speaker 2: High scoring, low scoring.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Um, I think Florida puts up some points.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Now I don't, my prediction that I've said on a
- 10:56Speaker 4: show we've been on together, I'm going to say tomorrow.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Night is 31, 17.
- 10:59Speaker 4: I think that this game feels closer pretty much the
- 11:04Speaker 4: whole game. I think Florida has some kind of special teams,
- 11:07Speaker 4: something or other that breaks the white way and that
- 11:09Speaker 4: this score maybe looks a little bit more lopsided than
- 11:12Speaker 4: it felt the entire ball game through.
- 11:14Speaker 3: But I do like this offense to score some points. Yeah.
- 11:20Speaker 2: We talked about this so much.
- 11:21Speaker 1: And so I'll just get you to stay here one
- 11:23Speaker 1: more time and then we'll wrap up and, and go,
- 11:25Speaker 1: but just this game does not determine.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Either tenure winner loss. Now some team loses by 30.
- 11:32Speaker 1: We certainly would be scratching our head, but it doesn't
- 11:35Speaker 1: determine the tenure, but it does feel like it sets
- 11:38Speaker 1: up one of these two teams on a better path
- 11:41Speaker 1: for the year. Because I think both programs are looking
- 11:43Speaker 1: at this game. Like, man, that's a, that's an sec game.
- 11:45Speaker 2: We can win.
- 11:45Speaker 1: There's a lot of get sec games on this schedule
- 11:48Speaker 1: and Auburn schedule. that we would say, Hey, that that's
- 11:51Speaker 1: going to be challenging. Going to DKR is going to
- 11:53Speaker 1: be challenging. Beating Georgia in Jacksonville is going to be challenging.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Oklahoma is going to be challenging. And Auburn's got those two,
- 11:58Speaker 1: you know, with, with Alabama at the end of the
- 12:00Speaker 1: year and the different games they play.
- 12:02Speaker 2: So it, it, it isn't really that important for the
- 12:06Speaker 2: grand scheme. I mean, we all want to win every game.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I get that.
- 12:09Speaker 1: But for the 10 years, it doesn't really matter that much.
- 12:11Speaker 1: But for this year, it, it kind of says somebody
- 12:13Speaker 1: behind the eight ball and it kind of says somebody
- 12:15Speaker 1: ahead of it, whoever can find a way to win
- 12:17Speaker 1: this game.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Yeah, the loser isn't doomed, but the winner does get immediate,
- 12:22Speaker 4: instant validation. And I think that program gets validation. These
- 12:26Speaker 4: are two coaches who, while they mirror each other in
- 12:29Speaker 4: that they're first-year coaches, they came from the group of five.
- 12:33Speaker 3: I think their personalities are pretty similar.
- 12:36Speaker 4: We saw social media clips from both of them, and
- 12:38Speaker 4: both fan bases labeled.
- 12:39Speaker 3: The other guy a tough guy this week.
- 12:41Speaker 4: And they really, truly were saying so many similar things
- 12:44Speaker 4: to each other. They're friends away from all of this.
- 12:48Speaker 4: But they had really different approaches into what they thought
- 12:50Speaker 4: would work to win right away, year one. Golish picked
- 12:54Speaker 4: up his entire offense from USF, essentially, and transplanted it
- 12:57Speaker 4: to the Plains. And his thought was the continuity is
- 13:01Speaker 4: going to help us the familiarity with the offense is
- 13:04Speaker 4: going to help us it's going to be easier to
- 13:06Speaker 4: win right away if I bring these guys in who
- 13:09Speaker 4: know what the hell I'm talking about and understand the
- 13:11Speaker 4: verbiage and are just ready to go whereas John Summerall
- 13:14Speaker 4: said I love my players at Tulane but I don't
- 13:16Speaker 4: know that I think any of them can cut it
- 13:18Speaker 4: in the SEC brought his kickers punter and his long
- 13:20Speaker 4: snapper and that's you know that's probably the easiest translation
- 13:24Speaker 4: from group of five to to power four, but he
- 13:28Speaker 4: left all those players at home and went into the
- 13:30Speaker 4: transfer portal, got new guys and is hoping that he
- 13:33Speaker 4: has created a cohesive enough unit that they're going to
- 13:36Speaker 4: be able to win right away. It's just such different philosophies.
- 13:39Speaker 4: And so we're going to kind of get an answer
- 13:41Speaker 4: on who is right. And I think Auburn feels like
- 13:44Speaker 4: for like John Summerall left him at the altar, Florida
- 13:46Speaker 4: stole the girl.
- 13:47Speaker 3: And I think Alex Golish wants to prove, Hey, I
- 13:49Speaker 3: am just as good. I might've been your consolation prize,
- 13:52Speaker 3: but I am no consolation prize.
- 13:53Speaker 4: I am worthy of coaching in this league. And maybe
- 13:57Speaker 4: some are all want some of the, like I made
- 13:59Speaker 4: the right choice. I went against my wife's university. I
- 14:01Speaker 4: went against a place I really was having great conversations
- 14:04Speaker 4: with and really liked. I hope I did the right thing.
- 14:07Speaker 4: So just so many storylines, it's, you know, a two
- 14:11Speaker 4: and a half point spread, which is essentially telling us
- 14:14Speaker 4: Vegas thinks it's a coin toss and I'm excited about it.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:18Speaker 2: It should be a lot of fun.
- 14:19Speaker 1: A I don't even know why I do this because
- 14:23Speaker 1: I feel like every UF fan already knows you. But
- 14:24Speaker 1: if you're not a UF fan, what do you have
- 14:26Speaker 1: coming this week and where can people follow you?
- 14:29Speaker 3: I'm really excited.
- 14:30Speaker 4: I have a couple different Auburn guests coming on, one
- 14:32Speaker 4: of which is Jake Crane. He'll be on tomorrow with us.
- 14:35Speaker 4: I will have a whole preview breakdown of this matchup.
- 14:39Speaker 4: Got some stuff coming down the pipeline talking about Aaron
- 14:41Speaker 4: Philo and Jaden Baugh. Just tons of content. May even
- 14:45Speaker 4: have an interview with an old punter who dropped a
- 14:48Speaker 4: punt yesterday. against Auburn during a national title season.
- 14:52Speaker 3: So we'll see if we can make that one happen
- 14:54Speaker 3: as well.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Probably the hardest interview you've ever had to set up
- 14:57Speaker 1: in your life. Allie, I appreciate you for hanging out.
- 15:00Speaker 1: We appreciate our friends over at PrizePix.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Again, all new users there.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Play $ 5 using code HMA and get $ 150 instantly in
- 15:07Speaker 1: lineups if you win.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Allie, we'll see you next time. Good luck this weekend.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Thanks.
